I have heard that animation is a extremely tough job with insane working hours. I'd also like to know how much freedom do animators or artists have in their work? Is becoming an animator a bad idea if you want to write and animate your own stories and characters?
I've heard that as well. And, unfortunately, I know just as much as you do on the subject. So take my hypothesis with a grain of salt.
I imagine around the time Toy Story 1 releaseed, the hunt for animators in the film field were more needed, as not many had such a skill already at that time. As in, experience working on a longer project than a short or working with cg specifically.
But now animation is so common that there's a flood of animators who are out of jobs from overhired layoffs (as far as I remember, I hope theyre okay!) plus movies are being pumped out all the time onm tight deadlines now. So alot of these guys are stressed af trying to work with what they have, which can change on a dime. See Castle of Cagliostro, Frozen 2, and Deadpool 1 for examples of rushed animated victories horror stories.
I don't believe animators or artists have a lot of freedom in projects like these films when it's not in the early stages of production or when the directors/writers/etc. already know what they want to see and are looking for someone to deliver on it. I'd imagine the film past that would be limited in creative liberties unless theyre looking for different ideas specifically. That would depend on production, tho.
As a non-animator, I'd recommend starting with comics if you haven't already if you want to tell your own stories and write your own characters because storyboards are the foundation of animation (composition, blocking, dialogue, color key/script, etc.). It's one of the closest still artistic media meant to read fluidly and can translate well to animation as well (superheroes is the easiest example). It's easier to visualize the pictures coming to life off the page when you've already seen an example of it in a show or movie, lol. Even comic dubs with small animations and sound effects would help with this too, I imagine. And if you do really want to jump into animation as is, you can always try something unique and outside the box animation-wise to stand out from others in the same field to get interested eyes on you.

So many fkn people which just breeds a shitload of capitalism but also a shitload of creativity and a certain amount of not giving a shit.
Theres so many people here and you walk past so many people in a day that nobody gives one fuck about you here which is both amazing and kinda isolating
The city itself is a lot more old and run down than I expected but i guess that’s just it showing its age
It feels like leftovers of a golden age
But its charming and diverse and creative and unpredictable.
Its like if every city ive ever been to merged into one and did a bunch of drugs.
But with bagels
And you can find any food you want from anywhere in the world and so far Its all been fantastic
Anyway it’s amazing and insane and I absolutely adore it and I think you would too.
Whoever you are reading this
—
I dont care much for the usual touristy shit.
Congrats, you saw a view.
Woopty doo
What are you gonna do with it? What did you learn from it?
Nice architecture, maybe. Cool size?
Aside that, nothin!
Bragging rights to one day say “yep, i saw that”
The things im out here to see are in the streets. It’s not lady liberty or empire state, though im sure I’ll get there eventually, it’s the subway dancers nearly kicking me in the face, the shirtless biker singing to himself as he rides who knows where or the beggar asking for money and a “warm bed with someone to cuddle.”
They’re the reason i travel.
Them and every other 11 million human beings in this city. Them and all their many personalities, backgrounds and beliefs. They’re what you leave home to experience. Lady liberty wont teach you much about actual freedom, but a short bald Mexican man selling fake papers for $80 will.
The Empire State Building might express grandeur, but to me, a cut less than that self confident slick fella with the clean kicks and bandana tied on.
A melting pot of cultures is something to be proud of. Something the rest of the world can learn from

Could you expand a bit on the "death of expertise"? It's something I think about A LOT as an artist, because there are so many problems with people who think it isn't a real job, and the severe undercutting of prices that happens because people think hobbyists and professionals are the same. At the same time, I also really want people to feel free to be able to make art if they want, with no gatekeeping or elitism, and I usually spin myself in circles mentally thinking about it. So.
I have been secretly hoping someone would ask this question, nonny. Bless you. I have a lot (a LOT) of thoughts on this topic, which I will try to keep somewhat concise and presented in a semi-organized fashion, but yes.
I can mostly speak about this in regard to academia, especially the bad, bad, BAD takes in my field (history) that have dominated the news in recent weeks and which constitute most of the recent posts on my blog. (I know, I know, Old Man Yells At Cloud when attempting to educate the internet on actual history, but I gotta do SOMETHING.) But this isn’t a new phenemenon, and is linked to the avalanche of “fake news” that we’ve all heard about and experienced in the last few years, especially in the run-up and then after the election of You Know Who, who has made fake news his personal brand (if not in the way he thinks). It also has to do with the way Americans persistently misunderstand the concept of free speech as “I should be able to say whatever I want and nobody can correct or criticize me,” which ties into the poisonous extreme-libertarian ethos of “I can do what I want with no regard for others and nobody can correct me,” which has seeped its way into the American mainstream and is basically the center of the modern Republican party. (Basically: all for me, all the time, and caring about others is a weak liberal pussy thing to do.)
This, however, is not just an issue of partisan politics, because the left is just as guilty, even if its efforts take a different shape. One of the reason I got so utterly exasperated with strident online leftists, especially around primary season and the hardcore breed of Bernie Bros, is just that they don’t do anything except shout loud and incorrect information on the internet (and then transmogrify that into a twisted ideology of moral purity which makes a sin out of actually voting for a flawed candidate, even if the alternative is Donald Goddamn Trump). I can’t count how many people from both sides of the right/left divide get their political information from like-minded people on social media, and never bother to experience or verify or venture outside their comforting bubbles that will only provide them with “facts” that they already know. Social media has done a lot of good things, sure, but it’s also made it unprecedently easy to just say whatever insane bullshit you want, have it go viral, and then have you treated as an authority on the topic or someone whose voice “has to be included” out of some absurd principle of both-siderism. This is also a tenet of the mainstream corporate media: “both sides” have to be included, to create the illusion of “objectivity,” and to keep the largest number of paying subscribers happy. (Yes, of course this has deep, deep roots in the collapse of late-stage capitalism.) Even if one side is absolutely batshit crazy, the rules of this distorted social contract stipulate that their proposals and their flaws have to be treated as equal with the others, and if you point out that they are batshit crazy, you have to qualify with some criticism of the other side.
This is where you get white people posting “Neo-Nazis and Black Lives Matter are the same!!!1” on facebook. They are a) often racist, let’s be real, and b) have been force-fed a constant narrative where Both Sides Are Equally Bad. Even if one is a historical system of violent oppression that has made a good go at total racial and ethnic genocide and rests on hatred, and the other is the response to not just that but the centuries of systemic and small-scale racism that has been built up every day, the white people of the world insist on treating them as morally equivalent (related to a superior notion that Violence is Always Bad, which.... uh... have you even seen constant and overwhelming state-sponsored violence the West dishes out? But it’s only bad when the other side does it. Especially if those people can be at all labeled “fanatics.”)
I have complained many, many times, and will probably complain many times more, about how hard it is to deconstruct people’s absolutely ingrained ideas of history and the past. History is a very fragile thing; it’s really only equivalent to the length of a human lifespan, and sometimes not even that. It’s what people want to remember and what is convenient for them to remember, which is why we still have some living Holocaust survivors and yet a growing movement of Holocaust denial, among other extremist conspiracy theories (9/11, Sandy Hook, chemtrails, flat-earthing, etc etc). There is likewise no organized effort to teach honest history in Western public schools, not least since the West likes its self-appointed role as guardians of freedom and liberty and democracy in the world and doesn’t really want anyone digging into all that messy slavery and genocide and imperialism and colonialism business. As a result, you have deliberately under- or un-educated citizens, who have had a couple of courses on American/British/etc history in grade school focusing on the greatest-hit reel, and all from an overwhelmingly triumphalist white perspective. You have to like history, from what you get out of it in public school, to want to go on to study it as a career, while knowing that there are few jobs available, universities are cutting or shuttering humanities departments, and you’ll never make much money. There is... not a whole lot of outside incentive there.
I’ve written before about how the humanities are always the first targeted, and the first defunded, and the first to be labeled as “worthless degrees,” because a) they are less valuable to late-stage capitalism and its emphasis on Material Production, and b) they often focus on teaching students the critical thinking skills that critique and challenge that dominant system. There’s a reason that there is a stereotype of artists as social revolutionaries: they have often taken a look around, gone, “Hey, what the hell is this?” and tried to do something about it, because the creative and free-thinking impulse helps to cultivate the tools necessary to question what has become received and dominant wisdom. Of course, that can then be taken too far into the “I’ll create my own reality and reject absolutely everything that doesn’t fit that narrative,” and we end up at something like the current death of expertise.
This year is particularly fertile for these kinds of misinformation efforts: a plague without a vaccine or a known cure, an election year in a turbulently polarized country, race unrest in a deeply racist country spreading to other racist countries around the world and the challenging of a particularly important system (white supremacy), etc etc. People are scared and defensive and reactive, and in that case, they’re especially less motivated to challenge or want to encounter information that scares them. They need their pre-set beliefs to comfort them or provide steadiness in a rocky and uncertain world, and (thanks once again to social media) it’s easy to launch blistering ad hominem attacks on people who disagree with you, who are categorized as a faceless evil mass and who you will never have to meet or negotiate with in real life. This is the environment in which all the world’s distinguished scientists, who have spent decades studying infectious diseases, have to fight for airtime and authority (and often lose) over random conspiracy theorists who make a YouTube video. The public has been trained to see them as “both the same” and then accept which side they like the best, regardless of actual factual or real-world qualifications. They just assume the maniac on YouTube is just as trustworthy as the scientists with PhDs from real universities.
Obviously, academia is racist, elitist, classist, sexist, on and on. Most human institutions are. But training people to see all academics as the enemy is not the answer. You’ve seen the Online Left (tm) also do this constantly, where they attack “the establishment” for never talking about anything, or academics for supposedly erasing and covering up all of non-white history, while apparently never bothering to open a book or familiarize themselves with a single piece of research that actual historians are working on. You may have noticed that historians have been leading the charge against the “don’t erase history!!!1″ defenders of racist monuments, and explaining in stinging detail exactly why this is neither preserving history or being truthful about it. Tumblr likes to confuse the mechanism that has created the history and the people who are studying and analyzing that history, and lump them together as one mass of Evil And Lying To You. Academics are here because we want to critically examine the world and tell you things about it that our nonsense system has required years and years of effort, thousands of dollars in tuition, and other gatekeeping barriers to learn. You can just ask one of us. We’re here, we usually love to talk, and we’re a lot cheaper. I think that’s pretty cool.
As a historian, I have been trained in a certain skill set: finding, reading, analyzing, using, and criticizing primary sources, ditto for secondary sources, academic form and style, technical skills like languages, paleography, presentation, familiarity with the professional mechanisms for reviewing and sharing work (journals, conferences, peer review, etc), and how to assemble this all into an extended piece of work and to use it in conversation with other historians. That means my expertise in history outweighs some rando who rolls up with an unsourced or misleading Twitter thread. If a professor has been handed a carefully crafted essay and then a piece of paper scribbled with crayon, she is not obliged to treat them as essentially the same or having the same critical weight, even if the essay has flaws. One has made an effort to follow the rules of the game, and the other is... well, I did read a few like that when teaching undergraduates. They did not get the same grade.
This also means that my expertise is not universal. I might know something about adjacent subjects that I’ve also studied, like political science or English or whatever, but someone who is a career academic with a degree directly in that field will know more than me. I should listen to them, even if I should retain my independent ability and critical thinking skillset. And I definitely should not be listened to over people whose field of expertise is in a completely different realm. Take the recent rocket launch, for example. I’m guessing that nobody thought some bum who walked in off the street to Kennedy Space Center should be listened to in preference of the actual scientists with degrees and experience at NASA and knowledge of math and orbital mechanics and whatever else you need to get a rocket into orbit. I definitely can’t speak on that and I wouldn’t do it anyway, so it’s frustrating to see it happen with history. Everybody “knows” things about history that inevitably turn out to be wildly wrong, and seem to assume that they can do the same kind of job or state their conclusions with just as much authority. (Nobody seems to listen to the scientists on global warming or coronavirus either, because their information is actively inconvenient for our entrenched way of life and people don’t want to change.) Once again, my point here is not to be a snobbish elitist looking down at The Little People, but to remark that if there’s someone in a field who has, you know, actually studied that subject and is speaking from that place of authority, maybe we can do better than “well, I saw a YouTube video and liked it better, so there.” (Americans hate authority and don’t trust smart people, which is a related problem and goes back far beyond Trump, but there you are.)
As for art: it’s funny how people devalue it constantly until they need it to survive. Ask anyone how they spent their time in lockdown. Did they listen to music? Did they watch movies or TV? Did they read a book? Did they look at photography or pictures? Did they try to learn a skill, like drawing or writing or painting, and realize it was hard? Did they have a preference for the art that was better, more professionally produced, had more awareness of the rules of its craft, and therefore was more enjoyable to consume? If anyone wants to tell anyone that art is worthless, I invite you to challenge them on the spot to go without all of the above items during the (inevitable, at this rate) second coronavirus lockdown. No music. No films. No books. Not even a video or a meme or anything else that has been made for fun, for creativity, or anything outside the basic demands of Compensated Economic Production. It’s then that you’ll discover that, just as with the underpaid essential workers who suffered the most, we know these jobs need to get done. We just still don’t want to pay anyone fairly for doing them, due to our twisted late-capitalist idea of “value.”
Anyway, since this has gotten long enough and I should probably wrap up: as you say, the difference between “professional” and “hobbyist” has been almost completely erased, so that people think the opinion of one is as good as the other, or in your case, that the hobbyist should present their work for free or refuse to be seen as a professional entitled to fair compensation for their skill. That has larger and more insidious effects in a global marketplace of ideas that has been almost entirely reduced to who can say their opinion the loudest to the largest group of people. I don’t know how to solve this problem, but at least I can try to point it out and to avoid being part of it, and to recognize where I need to speak and where I need to shut up. My job, and that of every single white person in America right now, is to shut up and let black people (and Native people, and Latinx people, and Muslim people, and etc...) tell me what it’s really like to live here with that identity. I have obviously done a ton of research on the subject and consider myself reasonably educated, but here’s the thing: my expertise still doesn’t outweigh theirs, no matter what degrees they have or don’t have. I then am required to boost their ideas, views, experiences, and needs, rather than writing them over or erasing them, and to try to explain to people how the roots of these ideas interlock and interact where I can. That is -- hopefully -- putting my history expertise to use in a good way to support what they’re saying, rather than silence it. I try, at any rate, and I am constantly conscious of learning to do better.
I hope that was helpful for you. Thanks for letting me talk about it.

I Wanna Be Sedated
“Hurry, hurry, hurry
before I go insane
Can't control my fingers,
can't control my brain”
- The Ramones
All of our resources have been focused on two things: keeping people alive and keeping the economy afloat. It is hard to argue the prioritization of those two areas and it is understandable that there are not resources beyond what we have already marshalled to focus on anything further down the list. But I worry that we are just burying another landmine in the ground that we’ll be stepping on sooner than later if we forget about it. I am talking about the complete and brutal destruction of our mental health both collectively and individually.
Before I go further, I must repeat that I completely support the efforts of social shutdown and shelter in place that are currently in effect. It is literally the only tool we have to fight this pandemic as our leaders (most specifically the president) mocked its potential wrath when more could have been done to prepare and now we are boxed into a corner. Experts warned long before this man even got nominated by his party that he was unfit for this office and an existential threat to our way of life. It was just a matter of time before his vulgarity, stupidity and incompetence manifested into real pain and destruction, and that time is now. I bring this up before delving into my primary subject because I still see polls and news reports that show there is a large percentage of people who still think there is overreaction to the crisis and that the president is doing a good job handling it. If you believe either of those things, please stop reading now because you do not have the intellectual capacity to grasp what I am going to say.
Now that we have established how we got here and who is responsible, the real question that everyone has on their minds is what is next. We have been told to shelter-in-place for the foreseeable future and been given no further instructions. The economic bill passed yesterday is the equivalent of treating a gunshot wound with a band-aid, and will be of little use as a real solution to the financial devastation that most people will experience long after those checks run out. This combination has made it increasingly hard to keep strong mentally as the massive uncertainty weighs on our minds literally every hour of the day. For a few days, we found some solace in things like getting outside, but now that is being quashed as acceptable. We are pretty much under a house arrest with no defined sentence and we are being punished for no crime we ever committed. Even a prisoner gets access to basic services such as counseling and religious freedoms, but not those of us at home. In war, there is something known as collateral damage, and our civil liberties are fitting that description for the current crisis. On top of all of that, the weather in my part of the country has been miserable. It all adds up to one very grim picture.
Some of you may not like that I am painting such a picture, but that to me contributes to our mental health crisis in the same way that putting our heads in the sand about the virus got us to where we stand today. I am not alone in feelings of anxiety or depression, but it’s well known I have had both long before the virus hit our shores. I feel it gives me a little bit of a perspective on this issue and why I see it a potentially more damaging long-term than anything we are experiencing today. What I can tell you from experience is that it is not possible to work through profound feelings of depression by “just being positive”. The two worst things you can tell a depressed person is that they have to remain positive and they need to work themselves out of their mood. That is akin to telling someone who is drowning that they need to come up for air and should go look for a lifejacket when they do. Yet, all I see on social media and the news is that this is the “new normal” and “we’ll get through this”. What are you talking about? There is nothing normal about this at all. Why on earth would anyone accept it as such? And, how do you know that we’ll get through this? What are you basing that on? Have you been through a deadly pandemic before? Have you sat under quarantine for weeks that will soon turn into months? It literally grates on my nerves to hear such things as good tools to use to “get us out of our funk”.
So, that begs the question about what do we do? I will not pretend to have any real answers and certainly there is no quick fix. But first, we all have to acknowledge that this problem exists, and it is at least on par with the other aspects of this crisis. And don’t say that it isn’t life-or-death because it is. I predict in a matter of weeks, not months, that you will see a morbidly sharp increase in the suicide rate. This is also incredibly damaging to the efforts of those trying to recover from addiction diseases, and many will not only succumb to their addictions without a support system to help them, but they will die as a result of this. And the casualties are not limited to those who don’t make it. The deep psychological scars left on the rest of us that manage to get through this will not heal without significant intervention. I am particularly worried about our teens and young adults who were already not in a good place and I think are suffering more than most when it comes to the social isolation steps being implemented. We all need to acknowledge that we are experiencing acute mental trauma and we cannot simply accept that as “normal”.
If you cannot accept this as fact, then there is not much more I can do to help you. You are going to suffer a similar fate as those who don’t believe we are in the middle of a deadly pandemic in the first place. But if you are willing to accept that your mental health is (or will be) destroyed as a result of this, there are a couple of things that I have learned over the years that can help you cope:
Depression, pain and anxiety are normal feelings and you should not feel guilty for feeling them. By all means do not suppress those feelings as they fester without an outlet. Also be aware that those around you will have these feelings as well and don’t shame them for not being “positive” or “constructive” for expressing them. It is going to take a lot of patience along with some give and take to work with each other on this, but if we deny ourselves or others the freedom to express these emotions, we can’t even get started with healing.
Recognize that while many tools have been taken way from us that usually can be a big help, many others are still available. We have to just be more creative and look for other doors that may be open when others have been shut. One of my main outlets has been a group running program where I coach, and that is now gone in its old form. But we are working hard to still get out and run (solo and never congregating) and support each other virtually. It is not perfect, but it would be wrong to dismiss the sense of community we have built over the years because it is still alive and well no matter how far apart we are kept. It may even be stronger when we eventually can see each other again. That is just one example. I recommend you take whatever you had before and look for ways to retool and still use that as something you can have that is a positive force in your life. It could be that you have that taken away at some point, but then go back and retool it again. If GM can retool its operations from cars to ventilators, we can certainly do the same on our micro levels.
Avoid using alcohol and drugs as a crutch. I can tell you from direct experience that this is just about the worst way to deal with depression. I am not saying you cannot enjoy a drink now and then, but I have already seen anecdotal evidence in some of my interactions on social media and elsewhere that this is not the case. I know that I sound preachy here, but I’m just trying to help as I’m sure many of you may have not experienced profound depression like this before. There is no doubt that the drink or drug of your choice feels good for a little bit and may even help you forget, but it is an incredibly slippery slope.
For those who have committed to sobriety before this all went down, please hold onto that. It may be the only thing you have left that they can’t take away, and it is too valuable to give up so easily. I know it is hard, the thought of heading down to the liquor store (which incredibly is still open and considered “essential”) has passed through my head more than once, but you have to let that feeling pass. You know better than I that what I say in the preceding paragraph is true and heading off the path to sobriety will be a disaster. I have heard that support groups are still meeting (as they have also been deemed essential) so consider a way to attend those (even virtually) if you are struggling with temptation. If you have no such support mechanism, contact me directly through FaceBook Messenger. I am always willing to talk to someone who needs to work though a moment of crisis. It’s a ridiculously impossible situation, but there is no other choice to hold on.
I know that I sound like I am on a soapbox here, but that is not my intent. This is more of a plea to everyone out there not to forget that mental health is a critical component of living and bodies free of disease are useless if our brains can’t function within them. Please just remember that as you deal with the people in your house and those you interact with virtually. While you may think you have the right answer in telling people to stay happy and chipper during a dark time, that is not how everyone feels and it could be damaging to their mental health if you ignore the danger signs they are presenting. My guess is that anyone who has gone this far into reading this already knows that, but it is going to take some reminding for even the most empathetic and caring person among us. Starting now can hopefully get ahead of issues that are already taking root so that we can move forward much more quickly with “normal” life if such a thing ever exists again.
In the meantime, I sincerely hope that this finds you healthy and safe and that you are coping with the mental aspects of the situation better than me. One outlet I have is this blog, and I have thought about suspending it during the crisis because I don’t have anything to say that people want to hear. After writing this post, I realize now that would be the easy way out, and at the risk of being unpopular, I can not give up the fight to protect the most important organ in our bodies – our brain. So, I’ll keep on keepin’ on, but just remember that I really am trying to help. I don’t want anyone to end up in a place that they can’t leave. We’ve come too far to let that happen.
Please take care everybody,
Jim

(1/2) What do you think of Julie Andem (Skam creator)? I used to really like her but recently I feel like she’s more interested in the money and prestige. For one thing, David said in an interview that she didn’t really let him take any liberties with the first two seasons. That they had to follow a very clear template. And from what I’ve seen of the other remakes it’s the same. And another thing, she’s signed off on so many remakes but so far has refused to allow them to continue past four
(2/2) seasons. Almost as if she doesn’t want anyone to take the stories in a different direction. I’m amazed that she even allowed David to make as many changes with S3 as she did. I feel like remakes should be more of an ode or love letter to the original, not a carbon copy. But Julie seems to be against that. Idk. She’s extremely creative and talented, but it seems like she’s threatened by anyone wanting to make Skam their own. Wanting to tell different, but just as meaningful, stories
Hello! Hmmm not sure I agree. Druck and Skam Espana have made a lot of changes, nothing absolutely drastic but still enough to take me by surprise so I wouldn’t say she only allowed carbon copies.
Also, in this interview, David explains why the NRK (and Julie) asked them to stick to OG for the first couple seasons. Skam is Julie’s baby, I wouldn’t be comfortable either selling it and then finding out the people I sold it to went in a complete other direction with my characters and the key thematics that are so dear to her, which is what David explains. Then, once David and the rest of the showmakers proved themselves, the NRK got more lenient and gave them more freedom because they trusted them not to “ruin” OG and its name. She and the NRK had to be a bit wary and cautious. I’d love to see more and more changes though, I agree. David is a fan of OG Skam first and foremost and everyone knows by now he would do more seasons justice.
The biggest reason Julie sold the remakes is because she couldn’t export OG Skam and get in on TV in other countries is the music. The soundtrack is insane and would have cost way too much in some countries in copyrights. So she went for remakes instead because those stories are important and deserve to be seen.
Now, is she making money out of it, sure. But that’s not necesseraly a bad thing. I admit I don’t follow her that closely besides her ig so maybe I’ve missed something though!

You will appreciate the bookshelf in bedroom ideas, whether you are an avid reader or even just a person who loves flipping through the periodical!
Bookshelves own the potential of adding life and color space.
You might not agree more that books have been one of the best forms of decor apart from the obvious value they provide.
By allocating a monthly budget on such books and maintaining a bookshelf, you in essence repurpose the intellectual value into a decorative piece of beauty.
They happen to add a pop of color to a dull room thus one does not need to invest extra budget in other decor items.
Books are priceless but still, the incorporation of a bookshelf truly ensures that you fully avail of a book’s price fully.
There is nothing wrong with investing in cute decor items, but also don’t forget to invest in the ones which provide you value as well. Be it.
You can create a budget-friendly decor in numerous ways, starting from the material and shape of the bookshelf to the varied arrangements of books.
No matter what color palette your room follows, the vastness it offers, cluttering feels it owns, a bookshelf will fit for all.
So give it shot!
This blogpost has got you covered with a bookshelf in bedroom ideas so you can elevate the space and enjoy a cup of coffee with your favorite read.

This space is extremely inviting.
One would love to sit in there to devour any piece.
The texture of different items coherently positioned offers nothing but sheer classiness.
This space is neutral, where the only vibrancy in the room is offered through the color coordination of the books.
This assortment through book colors forces our eyes mainly towards the bookshelf.
If you want your bookshelf to become a center of focus in your bedroom then you can play with the assortment.
#2 Perfect harmony

This idea offers elegance. You will not agree more that sometimes simplicity is bound to spread magic, just like this piece of decor did here.
I can sense a perfect harmony in this bookshelf idea for the bedroom because it balances greenery, metal, and paper.
You can try decorating the edge of your shelf with any plant that could offer such a calming effect. Several decorating items act like bookholders and you can play around with this idea.

10 Secrets About America that Will Make You Wonder Where All the Freedom Went July 13, 2017 Isaac Davis, Staff Writer Waking Times It’s no secret the definition of ‘freedom’ in America has changed a great deal in recent decades. While 9/11 was a major turning point, setting in motion a slew of changes to the American mindset and to the legal framework which governs the contract between the State and the people, our natural rights have been under assault for generations. Couple this with the dumbing down of the American citizenry, and ‘We the People’ simply no longer know or understand our rights. The fallout of this being we no longer protest or even notice when evermore egregious violations occur. Where has all the freedom gone? The following 10 secret truths about America are critical in understanding the state of the state today. 1.) The United States is one of only two countries in the world which taxes nonresident citizens for income earned elsewhere. If you reside in another country, as millions of U.S. citizens do, you’ll have to pay income taxes to two nations, or face prosecution by the IRS. This means that if you happen to have been born in the U.S. but lived your entire life elsewhere, you still owe Uncle Sam the full burden of income taxes, for your entire life. This rule is so insane that only two nations out of 196 nation states in the world do it. The other is the African nation of Eritrea. 2.) The Federal Reserve is not Federal and there is no reserve. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 gave authority to a private organization to print currency. The result has been continually rising inflation and continually rising debt which is mathematically impossible to pay off. A group of secret shareholders in the Federal Reserve make a profit for every dollar printed and used by anyone. This is the most sophisticated form of financial slavery ever devised, and many future generations of people are already indebted to this cabal. 3.) There is actually no law requiring U.S. citizens to file income tax returns, and the income tax itself is unconstitutional. This complex and controversial issue is broken down in detail in the documentary America: Freedom to Fascism by the late Aaron Russo. 4.) The IRS follows Americans around the world and harasses foreign banks to control the finances of U.S. citizens. The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act of 2010 makes it extremely difficult for Americans to function financially in other countries. Originally part of the Patriot Act, this type of global financial surveillance monitors bank accounts and deposits around the world. A result of this has been that many international banks will no longer do business with U.S. citizens, making it extremely difficult to live abroad. 5.) American churches are required to register with the Federal government and are not allowed to engage in political speech. Historically, churches were the centers of communal and societal change, as pastors and leaders would speak to their congregations on matters of social injustice and government tyranny. The American Revolution would not have taken place if not for the churches, but in 1954 the federal government passed the ‘Law of Charities,’ requiring churches to files as 501(c)(3) organizations, which comes with heavy restrictions on freedom of speech. Churches today are sanitized profit centers of social complacency not social change. 6.) Free speech permits and free speech zones severely restrict our First Amendment rights. This policy began in 1988 during the Democratic National Convention as ‘designated protest zones,’ but grew in prominence during the G.W. Bush administration. Upheld and strengthened during the Obama years, this policy of severely restricting freedom of speech and of assembly has been extended to college campuses around the nation. We won’t see antiwar protests like what we saw during the Vietnam war because this behavior is now illegal. 7.) Approximately two-thirds of Americans live in official Constitution Free Zones, where U.S. Customs and Border Protection has been given jurisdiction over the travel right of Americans. Within 100 miles of the U.S. border anyone can subjected to the policies of border patrol, which is allowed to interdict, search and seize persons and property without the due process required for other areas of law enforcement. Couple this with the rise in sobriety checkpoints and other police state measures and you realize we’ve lost the right to freely travel. 8.) Many ordinary and historically common rights, behaviors, practices and occupations have now become privileges regulated and taxed by the state. Building a home, fishing, hunting, going off the grid, gardening, selling lemonade, mowing yards, driving a car, getting married, starting a business, cutting hair, and so, so much more are all activities that now require permission from the government. And for all of these activities, you’ll have to pay a fee for the privilege. Failure to do so can result in violent arrest, heavy fines, and prison time. 9.) Policing in the U.S. has become a for profit branch of the government, and police brutality and violence is reaching epidemic levels. Law enforcement agencies around the U.S. have seized billions of dollars from law-abiding citizens in recent years. Traffic enforcement and local code enforcement works to generate revenue for local governments rather than for public safety. And the violence of police against Americans is everywhere. 10.) America has the highest rate of incarcerated people the world has ever seen. Prison in the United States has become big business, and thanks to the war on drugs, the government has found it acceptable to imprison millions of Americans, breaking up families, destroying lives and wasting taxpayer money. Although America has only 4.4 percent of the world’s population, it houses about 22 percent of the world’s prisoners. Final Thoughts While America is truly filled with incredible, ingenious and productive people, we are living in a time when government is extended its reach into our lives in evermore serious ways, while going unchecked. In order to solve the problem, you have to see the problem, and as we look around, it’s easy to recognize that our freedom is being stolen from us. Read more articles by Isaac Davis. PRECLUSION AND INSANE - Facts about North Korea People Hardly Believe
In this article you will know the interesting and amazing facts about North Korea. After reading this article, you will be able to find the answer, most people ask about North Korea, in which there includes,
What is North Korea known for?
What are the interesting rules for the citizen?
How much liberty is there?
What is the condition of human rights in North Korea?
What are the insane rules in the country?
What about the economy conditions?
Educational infrastructure available ion the country?
North Korea is a bizarre country to say the least. There are weird rules and systems in the country which believes the deceased founder Kim Il-sung still rules the regime in spirit form. Here are 20 of them.
The North Korean Calendar.
The North Korean Calendar is based on its founder's date of birth. It may be the 21st century for the rest of the world but for people in North Korea, it's still the 106th Juche year. The North Korean Juche calendar begins from April 15, 1912, the date of birth of its founder Kim Il-Sung.
North Korea has Merely 3 TV Channels.
With everything under scrutiny, it's quite obvious that the North Korean regime keeps its media on a tight leash. There are only 3 television channels to choose from, with all programs controlled by the government.
There is Power Cut Every Night.
You know how occasional power cuts are so annoying. Now imagine the state of North Koreans whose entire country goes dark at night. It's apparently due to the energy crisis in the state that it can't supply sufficient electricity to homes. This was revealed after a photo of North Korea taken from space went viral.
Elections with Merely Single Candidate to Choose From.
With the country's totalitarian regime and the same family ruling since 1948, it's rather funny that the elections are held every year. The voters have only one option to choose from. Whether it's the election for a mayor, provincial governors, or local assemblies, there is only one candidate on the ballot in each district.
Parents have to Provide School Furniture for their Kids.
Parents who send their kids to school are required to provide their own desks and chairs. Some students are also forced to do laborious tasks for the government, such as collecting discarded material.
3 Generation Punishment Rule.
The three-generation punishment rule is a horrifying reality of the country which can't stand any criticism from its citizens. If one person commits a crime, his entire bloodline, including the grandparents, parents and children, are sent to prison.
Someone Might be Held Captive for Creativity.
It's one of the popular stories that dictator Kim Jong-il kidnapped a film director, Shin Sang-ok and his wife, actor Choi Eun-hee, in 1978 to inject creativity in North Korean films. Later in 1986, after being held against their will for almost a decade, the couple gradually earned the dictator’s trust and escaped during a trip to Austria where they were promoting North Korean films.
A Propaganda Village.
Like so many other propaganda activities, there also exists a "propaganda village" on the border of North and South Korea. In 1953, the Korean Demilitarized Zone was established to end the war and serve as a buffer zone between the two countries. On this border, lies Kijong-dong, the village which boasts of the economic success of North Korea.
But people who've observed the village from South Korea have said that this village is just a sham with no one living there and the occasional sightings of the workers who sweep the streets. It's believed to be a fake show of development built to attract South Korean defectors and intimidate South Korea.
North Koreans Can Visit Merely 28 Websites.
North Korean citizens are only allowed to browse 28 websites on the internet. Their intranet, which is called "Kwangmyong" or Bright, through which internet is accessed, is free to use for those with access to a computer. The computers, however, are very expensive and one needs prior permission from the government to buy one!
Blue Jeans are Banned throughout the Country.
North Korea sees blue jeans as a symbol of US imperialism and hence, has banned it in the country.
Men Can Choose only 28 Hairstyles.
Korean men can choose from a list of 28 hairstyles. Any hairdo apart from the government approved hairstyles can lead to an arrest. While unmarried woman must keep their hair short, married women have a lot more options to explore.
No Religious Freedom.
Like restrictions on every other aspect of life, there's no religious freedom in North Korea. The country calls itself an atheist state and persecutes anyone who is seen practising any religion.
Human Waste is Utilized as a Fertilizer.
In 2008, when South Korea stopped sending fertilizers to North Korea, the country faced an acute shortage of fertilizers. So, like everything else, a new law was made and citizens were asked to collect their poop and hand it over to the authorities to help the country's agriculture.
Living in Capital is Restricted.
With government controlling everything from food to poop, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the autocratic country also controls where its people live. In North Korea, one needs government permission to be able to live in the capital Pyongyang. Additionally, the owner of any dirty vehicle entering the capital city is fined and those travelling out of the capital need a travel certificate.
Public Execution is Open.
Among so many human rights violations and brutalities, North Korea also commits the crime of publicly executing its citizens. Who doesn't remember the 2015 case when the defense chief Hyon Yong-chol was killed in front of hundreds of people with an anti-aircraft gun?
North Korea has its Own Basketball Rules.
North Korea has visibly isolated itself from the rest of the world and it also reflects in the way they play their sports. Their whimsical leader does everything of his own accord. No wonder he rewrote the basketball rules as well.
The North Korean basketball rules say that slam dunks are worth three points and field goals in the final three minutes of the game are worth eight points, as opposed to the normal two points.
Music is Ban.
Kim Jong Un's regime is always on a lookout for anything that may threaten his position. In 2015, Kim-Jong-un issued a decree to scrap all cassette tapes and CDs which had state-banned songs, because lyrics could propel dissent among citizens.

John Stossel
Climate alarmists spread myths and declare impending doom.
“The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change!” says Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Really? 12 years? John Stossel recently moderated a debate held by The Heartland Institute. Well, not a debate … because climate alarmists who were invited didn’t show. “Please … let’s have a discussion!” begs astrophysicist Willie Soon. Stossel says the panel convincingly debunked four myths. One is the new claim: "we only have 12 years to act." Pat Michaels, former president of the American Association of State Climatologists, says, “It's warmed up around one degree Celsius since 1900, and life expectancy DOUBLED … yet [if] that temperature ticks up another half a degree … the entire system crashes? That's the most absurd belief." Climatology Professor David Legates adds, “In twelve years it’ll be 12 more years.” The 3 scientists argue that even if the planet warms by 5 degrees, humans can adjust. We already have. People in Holland did. Holland is a low-lying country. Much of it is below sea-level. So many years ago, the Dutch built dikes to prevent flooding. Michaels says, “Are you telling me that the people in Miami are so dumb that theyre just going to sit there and drown?” “You acknowledge though the water is rising?” asks Stossel. Legates interjects, “Yes, the water has been rising for approximately 20,000 years.” Another myth they bust: government action today will save us. “The Obama’s administration’s model projects that the amount of global warming that would be saved [by the US] going to ZERO emissions tomorrow … would be 14 hundredths of a degree Celsius,” says Michaels. It wouldn’t stop global warming but: “You’ll sure have an impoverished dark country.” he continues. “Global warming is why hurricanes are getting worse” and the idea that “carbon dioxide is a pollutant that just does harm” are two other myths the scientists debunk. Stossel concludes by asking, “Are they right? It’s hard to believe they are when so many serious people are so worried. I wish there were a real debate! Why won’t the other side debate?”

Government Bans Ambulance Competition.
https://youtu.be/s_TUCjplHzE
John Stossel
35 states have laws that let established businesses block new businesses—this hurts consumers.
Want to start a business? Imagine having to get your competitors’ permission first. John Stossel points out that in 35 states, laws block certainties of new businesses from operating unless they get their competitor’s permission. One such law prevents Phillip Truesdell from operating ambulances in Kentucky. “You’re going to tell me that I’m not fit to work in your town?!” he asks . He and his daughter Hannah Howe run Legacy Medical Transport, an ambulance service in Ohio. When they tried to expand into Kentucky, which is just a few minutes away from them, they learned it would be illegal. It’s illegal due to Certificate of Need laws, also called “CON” laws. In Kentucky and 3 other states, you have to get a Certificate of Need to run an ambulance service. 35 states have CON laws impacting other industries. Truesdell doesn’t think this is right. He tells Stossel, “Anybody that draws breath ought to be allowed to work. Who gives the big man the right to say, ‘You can't work here?’” “The government. The law,” Stossel responds. Then “Kentucky ought to change that law,” says Truesdell. To do that, he and his daughter are working with the Pacific Legal Foundation, which filed a lawsuit with the goal of getting CON laws declared unconstitutional. Kentucky authorities and established companies resist. One ambulance provider told us: "… when saturating a community with more [Emergency Medical Services] than it can financially support, all agencies become watered down.” Truesdell’s attorney, Anastasia Boden, calls that “absurd”. She tells Stossel, “it is an abuse of government power to restrict somebody's right to earn a living. [It's] just as a handout to the other businesses.” “It's not a handout. It's protecting a vital service,” Stossel pushes back. “It's protecting a vital service for the current operators only,” she responds. Boden says we need competition, “because competition has been the driving force of innovation, lower prices and better services.” Stossel agrees, concluding, “Competition works! CON laws are a bad deal for both consumers and entrepreneurs. No one should have to ask permission to compete.”

Solving Student Debt
https://youtu.be/swiCHcdqJ7Y
John Stossel
A new idea called "income share agreements" could help solve the student debt crisis. -------- Don't miss a single video from Stossel TV, sign up here: https://www.johnstossel.com/#subscribe --------- Student loan debt keeps growing! President Obama blamed that on greedy bankers -- "unnecessary middle men". Senators said they'd fix things. “Take the banker out of the picture, because they’re taking a profit!” shouted Sen. Durbin. He and Obama got their way, and the government took over student loans in 2010. President Obama promised “We’ll save American taxpayers 68 billion dollars." But the government takeover didn’t save tax money. Student debt just kept rising. Part of the problem is that cheap government loans invite students to take on debt without even thinking about whether they will earn enough money to pay it back. Democratic Presidential frontrunner Elizabeth Warren wants to solve the massive student debt problem by having government forgive nearly all of it. That'd cost taxpayers a massive $1.25 trillion. A better solution, says Beth Akers, author of "Game of Loans" and a Senior Fellow at The Manhattan Institute, is something called an ISA: an "Income Share Agreement". ISAs mean, instead of incurring loan debt, students agree to pay a percentage of their FUTURE income. "The ISA is a way for the school to say to [a student], 'you're only going to pay us if we help you succeed,'" Akers explains. Private computer coding boot-camps already do that. Now universities are experimenting with ISAs. A big benefit is that the lenders have skin in the game -- they care about being paid back. They guide students to higher paying careers, and warn them that some majors probably won’t lead to jobs that pay as well. At Purdue University, English majors with a $10,000 ISA loan must pay, after graduation, 4.58% of their income for 116 months. Math majors pay less--3.96% for 96 months. The difference, of course, is because students majoring in math are expected to earn more; investors expect they'll need less time to recoup their investment. Two students with ISAs told me they much prefer ISAs to debt. "It is a win-win situation for everyone involved in it,” said Purdue graduate Andrew Hoyler, who's just started working as a pilot. "We don't know who the investor is, but I'd love to give him a hug or buy him a beer or something," Engineering student Paul Laurora added. Still, some people say ISAs are unfair. A Vice headline called them “indentured servitude." I told Laurora and Hoyler what some critics say: "You're locked into paying all these months." "If you're graduating and you don't have a job, you're not paying anything! Where's the servitude in that?" Paul asked. Good point. I hope ISAs will lead to less debt and more responsible college decisions.

How Big Government Hurts Women
PragerU
Government-mandated employee perks might sound like a good way to help out working women, but, in reality, these programs do more harm than good. European women are already paying the price, and American women might be next. Carrie Lukas, President of Independent Women’s Forum, explains how keeping the government out of the workplace goes a long way toward keeping women in it. For more information on Independent Women's Forum visit IWF.org
Script: The bigger the government, the better for women. Is that statement true or false? Well, if party affiliation is any indicator, most women under the age of 40 would say “true.” Young women, especially single women, are among the left’s most loyal supporters. This isn’t surprising given that programs like government-subsidized childcare and government-mandated paid family leave sound like things that make life better for women. But do they really? Most European governments provide subsidies that allow women to stay home for months—even years—following the birth of a child. And some European countries require employers to offer female employees part-time and flexible work arrangements. So have European women benefited from these programs? The answer is no—unless you think lower wages, fewer jobs, and fewer management opportunities benefit women. Why is this the case? Because these supposedly women-friendly government mandates change the way businesses evaluate female employees. It encourages companies to assume that women will not only cost them more, but they’ll be less productive than men. Spain is a good example. In 1999, that country passed a law giving women with young children the right to work reduced hours. But a study by economists at the IE Business School in Madrid and at Queens College of the City University of New York found that women paid a big price in lost opportunities: Companies were less likely to hire women of childbearing age, less likely to promote them, and more likely to dismiss them compared with men. When Chile tried similar policies, similar outcomes resulted. In the words of Maria Prada, an economist for the Inter-American Development Bank: “[The purpose of the law was] to help [women] participate in the labor force and achieve more work-family balance, and it’s doing the opposite.” A study of 22 countries by two Cornell economists showed that in countries with the most extensive benefits for women, women are more likely to be in dead-end jobs, and less likely to become managers or top executives. This is because once the government mandates additional benefits for women, employers place them on the “mommy track,” meaning they assume women will want to work fewer hours whether that’s true or not. This might explain why in the United States, where these benefits are not mandated, women account for more than 40 percent of senior managers while in more “progressive” Europe, that number is a little over 30 percent. But Big Government doesn't throw obstacles only at women trying to get ahead. It throws obstacles at women struggling to get by. Here, we don’t have to go to Europe to find examples; there are plenty in the United States. Take the issue of occupational licenses—government regulations requiring a license to pursue particular professions. Sure, people operating dangerous and complex equipment should have to get special training, take tests, and be licensed. But why are occupational licenses required for hair shampooers and braiders? In some states, licenses are even required for interior designers and florists. Getting licenses can require hundreds of hours of schooling and entail major fees. That’s not about protecting consumers or public safety. That’s a source of revenue for city and state governments, and a way for some politically powerful lobby groups to keep out competition. And since more women obtain occupational licenses than men, women are disproportionately hurt. So what’s the solution? Less government, not more. The Rational Bible: Exodus by Dennis Prager
NATIONAL BESTSELLER "Dennis Prager has put together one of the most stunning commentaries in modern times on the most profound document in human history. It's a must-read that every person, religious and non-religious, should buy and peruse every night before bed. It'll make you think harder, pray more ardently, and understand your civilization better." — Ben Shapiro, host of "The Ben Shapiro Show" "Dennis Prager’s commentary on Exodus will rank among the greatest modern Torah commentaries. That is how important I think it is. And I am clearly not alone... It might well be on its way to becoming the most widely read Torah commentary of our time—and by non-Jews as well as by Jews." — Rabbi Joseph Telushkin, bestselling author of Jewish Literacy Why do so many people think the Bible, the most influential book in world history, is outdated? Why do our friends and neighbors – and sometimes we ourselves – dismiss the Bible as irrelevant, irrational, immoral, or all of these things? This explanation of the Book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible, will demonstrate that the Bible is not only powerfully relevant to today’s issues, but completely consistent with rational thought. Do you think the Bible permitted the trans-Atlantic slave trade? You won’t after reading this book. Do you struggle to love your parents? If you do, you need this book. Do you doubt the existence of God because belief in God is “irrational?” This book will give you reason after reason to rethink your doubts. The title of this commentary is, “The Rational Bible” because its approach is entirely reason-based. The reader is never asked to accept anything on faith alone. As Prager says, “If something I write does not make rational sense, I have not done my job.” The Rational Bible is the fruit of Dennis Prager’s forty years of teaching the Bible to people of every faith, and no faith. On virtually every page, you will discover how the text relates to the contemporary world and to your life. His goal: to change your mind – and then change your life.
