So there's apparently a moderately popular Fight Club theory that Marla is also in the Narrator's head? Which goes well with my transfeminine love of Marla because it means the movie can be read as the Narrator as the egg body (hence the hollow vibe and lack of a name), Tyler as the false macho persona she adopts in an increasingly unhinged and ultimately vain attempt to double down on her externally imposed role, and Marla as her—that is, as an emerging image of who the Narrator really is.

sometimes, i wanna talk about how Gregory cromwell was probably a closeted gay man, and was charged with buggery for more than likely being caught with a man, and the irony of the buggery act being pushed into parliament/law and more than likely drafted by his own father, thomas cromwell.

but then i'll have to deal with people trying to argue down and claim that, 'actually buggery didn't just mean sodomy, it meant cheating/rape/etc, so gregory wasn't gay he was just a rapist'.

and while cheating on your wife with a man wasn't an ideal thing to do, i do think there is more evidence leaning toward that, than rape/adultery - as rape/adultery would've more than likely been recorded and brought up explicitly, especially during the downfall of the cromwell family. i would go more into this, but i just dont have time.

whereas, it would make a lot more sense if a gay relationship was hidden because a.) this was thomas cromwell's son, and that would shame the family and b.) thomas cromwell, who came up with the buggery act - England's first unofficial anti-sodomy law - would not want anyone to know that his son was actually gay lol.

and the buggery act wasn't officially recognized as an anti-sodomy law until years later, however, it was basically viewed as such as it was drafted, because it did go after gay people in england.

i always thought thomas did it specifically to go after the catholic church, but never actually realized how it could impact his own son because well...he didn't know

I think some trans men need to understand it's not gender affirming for you to be like "haha yeah I'm awful and disgusting for being a man" ... 😭 you ... should NOT be made to feel that way. You should love and be proud of your trans queer manhood. Any queer person who makes you feel bad for being a trans man is lowkey just .... transphobic? Being a trans man is a marginalised identity and trans men do not experience male privilege buz that is a cisheteronormative concept. Passing, aka being in the closet, is not a privilege, it's a circumstantial form of safety that can be taken away at any time and that not all trans people are able to have access to. Passing trans people are not immune to transphobia, tranphobic laws, being outed / clocked, or transphobia in the medical / healthcare field.

Trans manhood is beautiful and if you're okay with throwing your trans friends under the bus just to demonise manhood as a whole bcuz of cis men's actions – maybe you're just transphobic & have bioessentialist, reductive viewpoints on gender. You can fight patriarchy, male privilege, and abusive cis men's actions without seeing manhood as an inherently abusive oppressive thing. To accept transgenderness as a whole you need to have a healthy view of manhood because if you don't, I feel very sorry for any trans man (or just ANY trans person who had a connection with manhood) you come into contact with.
