Why do you think Tom Taylor is racist/ableist?

If you’re a stan of his, this should be your last ask. Not that I would answer another if you refuse any criticism of him

Tom Taylor has a habit of poorly portraying both poc and disabled characters. Sometimes excluding them entirely if not relying solely on a white abled perspective of disability and race. He’s uneducated. He’s careless. The only positive/neutral sounding word is that I can say he’s consistent.

The biggest ableist thing of all rn is Heartless. He created a disabled character full of stereotypical vilifying disability tropes. The man used p*ycopath and s*ciopath to describe a character in big 2024 (and multiple preceding years. Now both of those words have LONG ableist and racist history attached them. One of the main reasons people diagnosed with commonly associated conditions (it’s not just the antisocial personality disorder which people often believe) prefer not to use it or even suggest that others don’t. But specifically heartless, Tom wrote that a character with a condition that is long vilified by writers and used it to attach it to his loss and lack of humanity. Which is only further elevated by his cybernetic limbs. And of course to top it all off he was raised by a serial killer who also should similar tendencies while being associated with a word that is for disability.

And what’s his representation of disability outside of that dogshit and dead. Literally. It goes beyond drama or whatever the fuck as everything he writes is clearly fueled by the same thoughts I have to tell people to stop thinking every day as a disabled person. But he keeps thinking them

Look how terrible his Babs was. Apparently she’s only disabled when he feels like making a weird speech about pizza in the park that is later fully ignored as she backflipped off buildings whenever she felt like it. Look up the sexy lamp test and you got his Babs. And that’s not even touching that hearing aid disaster that is also out of character for dick cause this cake needed icing.

He also has the same tendency that fanon fans do when it comes to Damian’s behavior and aggression. I’ve already spoken about a long time ago. I don’t need to talk about it again but it’s rooted stereotypes and vilifying specifically Arab characters.

How he wrote Ra’s well in his story I’ll never know because Talia and Damian so fucking awful.

He turned Bea into the disposable black girlfriend ngl. And the fact that he took away everything that made her the character people enjoy. It may not be solely because of her race, but him continuously disrespecting black female characters is worth noting. Like he didn’t even know Nubia was the queen.

The time where he took the opportunity to promote his comics when Anna Diop was being harassed and sent racial slurs certainly doesn’t help his image either.

He’s a weak, performative centrist “ally.” I can be kind and say it’s more ignorance than malice. Which is still racism and ableism btw
