LOL THEY TEXT THEM!??! on the bright side, this just reminded me that top 35 will still get to be in ep 11 so yayyy we get another zhan yu stage!!!!!!

lol this earth ad is even more cringey.................. the ending credits.... i see lin yuzhi! and xixi got a cool shot :D im surprised lin mo didnt get any shots haha and that they didnt show mr tyger at all during the hugging portion at the end but oh well i guess..... 

tbh this was a minimal lin mo exposure ep but its ok, im still grateful that he got a few random closeups (which is more than i can say for some of the others) and now that hes safely in top 20 i honestly think my work here is done LOL. there’s not much more lin mo fans can do for him. theyve gotten him onto all the stages and i dont think any amount of work will get him into top 9... and ive said before i dont even really want him in top 9 bc id rather he stay with mr tyger and help them stay relevant bc theyll need his help to do so, especially since jia yi will probably make top 9. 

(from here is where i go into a rant about season 1 vs season 2.... LOL)

lets be honest, ranking 16 is too low for lin mo to make it lol....... last season the only kid who made top 9 who wasnt already in top 9 by ep 10 was yanjun... and yanjun had been on a steep upward trend leading up to the last ep (lin mo went from 17 to 16... theres minimal momentum there lol) and then bi wenjun going from 12 to 10 was the other surprise. xikan going from 18 to 13 was impressive, but he still wasnt one of the contenders for the 9th spot. i think at the end it was bu fan, qian zhenghao, bi wenjun and you zhangjing right? out of those 4, the lowest ranked in ep 10 was bi wenjun at 12..... so going from 16 up to 9 would be really really unlikely, unless lin mo somehow makes an even greater impression on the audience during the mentor collab stage than yanjun did last year.... which i think will be impossible bc literally the entire audience fell in love with yanjun during the “zero” performance in last season’s ep 11 lol it was crazyyyy.... but anyway i think ive reminisced about last season enough this rant.... can you tell i really miss it? honestly ive tried to stay as positive as i could throughout watching qcyn and i gave iqiyi the benefit of the doubt from the beginning that “oh maybe it just doesnt seem as great as the first season bc we havent gotten to know the kids yet, the show’s just started, we’ll learn to love it later” ---- but we’re on ep 10 now and i just.......... i still dont think i got to know the kids as well as i did last season and its not their fault, theyre not any less lovable kids (some of them i really like!!! more than some of the kids from last season!) but this season’s editing is really just disappointing. i really miss last season and it was honestly so much more enjoyable to watch..... i thought about this the other day, if lin mo had been eliminated during the last round, would i still be watching this show? and i thought about it and i honestly think i would... because i really like some of the other kids like mingming, junjie, xixi, jia yi, guan yue, chen sijian, etc. but i really dont think id be as eager to stay up to date with it. ive fallen behind on yaa and dont even look forward to watching fanafan anymore bc lin mo hasnt been on any of those (no, i dont count the yaa ep he literally only got 1 second of screentime in) these side shows are fun, but not as fun as fanafan from last season. they feature the same kids over and over again (literally yuehua trio was the ONLY kids on fanafan 2 weeks ago and then they were 1/3 of the ep last week too??? and hmm how come there are kids who have been on yaa multiple times yet there are also kids who have never been on it at all???? that’s just so unfair.....) without fanafan from last season, would you zhangjing have made it into top 9?? fanafan was the medium thru which he really showed us how hilarious and fun and lovable and sweet and sassy he was (whereas on the actual show he showed us his true, undeniable talent) and im just here wondering, if qcyn’s fanafan had featured ye ziming half as much as they had featured you zhangjing or his partner in crime yanjun (who both ended up making top 9), would he have at least made top 35? or how about chen sijian and wu zelin? or feng junjie?? or su yuhang?? where would they be now? why hasnt lin mo been on fanafan at all??? if given the chance, would people actually be appreciating zhan yu’s hilariously weird and crazy personality that we NEVER got to see?? sigh..........

I am doing this just for fun ^^ Because I like translating the Tokuten (extras), than the Honpen (stageplay) :p I know LIVE has been around for a while but just in case ^^ I will skip some parts… because they talk too fast / not so important / interesting :p If I have the time and if anyone wants to read this, I will make the rest with Izawa Yuki, Yamazaki Shuuto, Gomoto Naoya & Yazaki Hiroshi too ^^ (i edited this with photos lol yesterday tumblr was being ugly and jealous i couldnt upload anything)

M-P: So it has been 2 1/2 years, since your last stage, since Kazama-hen

R: Yes, that was the last one for me, and the Fukuchou (commander / Piroshi). And you see just now I have been watching from the side-stage and a lot of memories came in.

R: Yes my debut performance was the first ever Hakumyu after all (Saitou-hen). I’m so happy and now everyone is turning their penlights into Blue colour. Aa~ thank you~ (in his Kansai-ben /aaaaaa XD)

R: I love everyone (* Minna suki ya de~ aaa kansai benn XD) ! I’ll give you this *hands over his uchiwa (fan) to one front seat fan). It is a festival after all right. I can’t throw it (the fan) to the seats it’s dangerous okay.

M-P: It is definitely amazing right. It was the first ever Hakumyu, and without that there wont be Hakumyu today right (i rephrased this XD i think he mentioned Matsuda Gakkun, like without Ryo-kun first Hakumyu, there wouldnt be Hakumyu today for anyone else~)

R: You know just now I received a LINE message from Yamazaki-san / Piroshi.

AUDIENCE: ‘What did he saaay?’

R: ‘Good luck for the LIVE’ and he wrote that all in Hiragana. lol but that’s so him XDD

So I replied, I’ll do my best!

R: No no *sheepishly*, but you see in the digest just now (clips from prev musicals), it is thanks to everyone - casts, staffs, those who have been loving Hakumyu.. oh but Hakuouki (the anime/game) is amazing in the first place right.

M-P: He is definitely a zachou (lead) who practiced more than anyone else, yet never shows a tired face *more praises*

R: (laugh) thank you!

Then Mori-Producer said that seems like it started from Ryo-kun, a passionate and powerful Zachou, and from that on the next ones too inherited that.

R: Eh, wait I feel like crying already.

M-P: That’s fast.

R: Before I was in Hakumyu, I went through an audition and at that time, I was auditioning for Heisuke’s position.

ME & FANS: WHAAT?????

R: I was aiming for Heisuke and I really didnt think that I would be Saitou Hajime and that time Mori-san’s impression was really interesting

M-P: I thought he will definitely fail this :p

It was like he was screwing around. What did you do again?

And then Ryo-kun explained that there are some things that needs to be done. I think he needs to act out a scene in which everyone needs to take turn and then he gets cut down by another. And he have to act out a dying scene.

R: I never had any experience of sword fight lessons or anything, let alone how to act out a death. So when I was cut down, UWAAA— (run and plops on floor) and I just stayed in this position (on floor) and I looked at the person and the producer angrily said ‘Die now!’

M-P: I really thought you will fail but you managed till the end and Im glad it is you.

R: Aaww

M-P: How about acting out Saitou Hajime’s line now? *pass a Katana*

R: WAAA, it has been a while since I last held a Katana *slips it on his obi* (mind you, it is left side which is actually ‘wrong’ because he is Saitou Hajime known for left-handed samurai XD). Ok Mori-san be the Chizuru okay.

R: EH, this katana is the other way round (lol)

M-P: Any scenes that’s most memorable for you?

R: (he said the scene when he fought with Kazama)

*Then it became an awkward scene when Shougo-Kazama came out.*

R: Hi, it is.. a first time so I’m Matsuda Ryo *steps back*

Shougo-Kazama: Hmph.

R: Seems like his eyes is killing me. Then, I can take him on now. Everyone, he is now weaponless.

S-K: *came back with a Katana* R: Ok lets go with ‘that’ scene. Get it? ‘That scene?’ …. Aren’t you laughing, you okay?

(LOL Shougo is facing Ryo-kun so the face is not visible :P)

Compared to that time, I earnestly think you’ve become such a splendid actor as Matsuda Ryo…….. (cont) (It is such a warm letter, and I am not good with such beautiful piece so let’s leave that to your imagination :P)

Here are some other interesting facts from the rest of the special guest corner (that I might or might not translate):

[1] Gomoto Naoya-kun auditioned for Hijikata Toshizou’s position (HAHAHA but Mori Producer was like, Nope okay you can stop during the audition :p)

[2] Izawa Yuki-kun was sooo pressured to be the 2nd Hijikata-san, because Piroshi / Yamazaki Hiroshi was a strong one, too good. And then he said at that time, he always had Kondou-san (Taira-san) to pamper and calm him down. And when asked how, he acted it out: *walks to Kondou-san and hugs* ‘Im scared~ Piroshi was so good~* And Taira-san would hug pat him and say ‘It is okay, just be yourself, you own version of Hijikata Toshizou’

[3] On the recording day of Hakumyu Reimeiroku, Piroshi came to watch. And Izawa Yuki-kun was like ‘AAA how dare he came today why did he have to come today of all days’ XD But then at the end, when he showed his fist towards Piroshi in the audience seat, Piroshi returned his air-fistbump (AWW). He said he was happy and touched ^^

[4] Izawa Yuki sheated his katana and fans went ‘UUU~~’ and he said ‘Wow LIVE is so nice, I didnt do anything but sheating my sword and I get such reaction :p

[5] Izawa Yuki said he had such a blunder during Hakumyu performance like there were times when he tried to sheath back his sword and the scabbard had moved the other way. So this one time, he put it in, and like oh god it wouldnt go in so while acting the play he slowwwwly slowwwwly took it out, and BAM! put it back in one go :p

[6] Ryo-kun said some of the blunders he made during Hakumyu was (1) There was a part Amagiri was talking and he was supposed to come out, and at one time he was just sitting at the side-stage not realizing it was his moment to come out. And suddenly Ikeda Junya-kun (Heisuke), came running ‘OI YOUR TURN GET OUT THERE’ and he was like wth and ‘WHY?’ and Junya furiously said ‘YOUR TURN’ and he was like ‘WHAT? !!!’ *late sudden realization* XDDD

(2) There was a day he said he forgot his Katana (LOL) and that was the part he was supposed to fight Kazama (such important scene LOL). And he saw the ensemble Suga-chan and just ‘defeat and grab away his Katana forcefully’ and continue his act LOL. (you would know Suga-vhan if you’re a fan (said Ryo-kun), bcs the longest ensemble member to join Hakumyu from start till to-date).

[7] Izawa Yuki-kun said he was always feeling so pressured (lol poor one XD Piroshi was awesome after all keke) but Kondou-san (Taira-san) helped him like you know he is a historical figure and Taira-san looks just so realiable like the real one, but then one day during practice, they were practicing Shinsengumi’s first appearance during YAISA and when it is his turn to come out with Taira-san suddenly he heard a loud DODOON noise and when he looked to his side, Taira-san stumbled and fell down very unsightly LOL (you can see this clip in Toudou-hen’s extras) :p

[8] Imata Taira-san (Kondou-san) is known for getting tongue-tied and calling character names wrongly like: Saitou-KYUN, Sousuke (Heisuke), Heiji (Souji) :p

[9] Mori-producer said when he first met Ryo-kun he judged him like ‘Can this kid really talk properly’ (Because Ryo-kun is a Kansai-person so he has an accent). And Ryo-kun said Now I can talk normally and fluently (without the accent) :p

“This afternoon I’m going to be sharing a lot of stories about Sue &  Ian with you. To get rolling, lets tackle the first ‘I love you.’ They were at an evening event at the San Diego Zoo. The zoo was all decorated with Christmas lights. A few days earlier, Sue had sent Ian a mooshy Cole Porter song…she had worried that it might have been too much. But, there in front of the flamingos, Ian told Sue that he loved her for the first time. She said she loved him too…awwww. Ladies & gentlemen, are you ready to welcome our guests of honor?”

➔ “Rhapsody in Blue,” Leonard Bernstein (cued to 11:15) ➔  “They met in January 2014 when Sue was a short-term legal intern for the Family Law Facilitators office, while Ian was working in the business office. She was intrigued at first sight and kept trying to figure out how to get him to talk to her. A year and a half later, after little success, Sue returned to that same office as a law clerk. She was secretly thrilled to see Ian was still working there…but she still had no success turning his head.”

“Fast forward to Sues first attorney job—and she returned as often as possible to the facilitators office where Ian worked to file paperwork. She would make any excuse to drop paperwork off in hopes of getting to see him. Finally, they started making small talk, and Sue got Ian to tell her a little about himself. Then, at a certain notorious north county legal community Christmas party, Sue ran into Ian  they haven’t stopped talking since!”

“Together they enjoy escape rooms, street fairs, movies at Cinepolis, Balboa Park, riding bikes, museums, road trips, geeking out over obscure legal things, antiquing, looking at homes for sale with no intention of actually buying them, concerts, and plays. They are planning a honeymoon to ahu. And, as you may have guessed…one of their first big dates was to a concert where Rhapsody in Blue  was performed! Ladies &  gentlemen, get on your feet to welcome–for the FIRST TIME EVER–Sue and Ian B—-!!!”

Week 4 Group Project: Remix Videos

As defined, a remixed video takes pieces from different sources and mixes them together to create new material. This deconstructing and re-contextualizing can be portrayed in the following videos.

Honest Trailers - Wonder Woman

My remix video is an example of re-contextualizing using voice over to point out flaws in both Hollywood feminism and the Wonder Woman movie in specific. The main social critique takes place from 0:28-1:09 in the video. First the voiceover recounts passed examples of female led superhero movies (who’s lack of return at the box office is often used to justify the lack of female led superhero movies) and points out how they are “absolute garbage from beginning to end”.  Then points out that the idea of Wonder Woman as someone for women to look up to is flawed because she’s an amazingly attractive woman who is an actual goddess and the men in her own film still won’t give her space. The segment ends with a sarcastic “Whooo Progress”. The main aim of this critique is to complicate the idea of the Wonder Woman film as a feminist movie devoid of sexism. This youtube video was produced by Screen Junkies, an online pop-culture and film review video production company owned by Defy Media. According to their youtube channel Screen Junkies would like you to “Enjoy our warped take on film & TV with a steady stream of pop-culture parody, original series, thoughtful commentary, and whatever we can think of next”.

Lambeth Walk: Nazi Style - by Charles A. Ridley (1941)

I chose the video “Lambeth Walk- Nazi Style,” a propaganda film created in 1942 by British Ministry of Information employee Charles A. Ridley. The film depicts footage of Hitler giving speeches and Nazi soldiers marching (taken from the Nazi propaganda film Triumph of the Will), originally meant to inspire pride and confidence among Nazis, remixed and set to the music of the “Lambeth Walk.” In the film, Hitler is styled a performer under the name “Shichlegruber” (his grandmother’s maiden name), and is assisted by his back-up dancers, the Gestapo Hep-Cats. The formerly intimidating dictator and soldiers march, sway, and appear to tap dance in time with an bouncy, light hearted tune, with sped up, cut, and reversed footage adding to the cartoonish effect. The purpose of the film is clear; to twist an inspirational message for Nazis into something that mocked them and portrayed them as weak and silly, something that the Ministry of Information could use against their enemies. The choice of song adds another layer of degradation to the Nazis; the “Lambeth Walk” was chosen specifically because the Nazis had recently denounced it as “Jewish mischief and animalistic hopping.” Modern viewers of the film may be disconcerted by the film’s depiction of the horrific Nazi regime as silly and ineffectual, but in 1942, the public was largely ignorant of the extent of the atrocities perpetrated in concentration camps. While the film is still humorous today, most of its viewers will watch it with the sobering knowledge of what Hitler did to Jewish people and other marginalized communities, and it will likely have a very different effect on modern people than its original audience in 1942.

Coldplay - Up&Up (Official Video)

On the 16th of May 2016, Coldplay released a music video from their newest album, A Head Full Of Dreams. Sponsored under Parlophone, the band's third single "Up&Up" features a series of clips from everyday life overlaid onto each other within the music video. Such clips all interact with each other in some way, shape, or form, no matter the irrelevancy or how out of place they are. Several examples include the opening sequence where a turtle swims in mid air through a subway station, manatees flip in the distance over a city, swimmers dive within a washing machine, and a boy swings in space over planet Earth. This project was led by two film directors Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia; both men have directed other similarly remixed videos involving heavy and creative editing that often incorporate surrealist aspects into their works. In collaborating together with this project, they produced what they would describe as a "poignant, surrealist montage which alludes to contemporary issues." As a modern music video, they have conceived an interconnected video remixed to create visuals and images that signify togetherness in the absolute dichotomies of life. These dichotomies, now patched and stitched together, highlight the quick glances we take in the real world, and spin them around so that we do a double-take. Taking those clips out of context and looking from a different angle, Heymann and Muggia demonstrate that even mundane moments can be brought to life through the exploration of nature, society, and human interaction. This is combined with the calm and uplifting tone of Coldplay’s song that allows for the audience to further envelop themselves in the elevated mood of the remixed visuals.

Every Single Word Spoken by a Person of Color in the Entire 'Harry Potter' Film Series

Video remix is a form of reconstructing original content. In this sense, remixing can be used to bring up certain truths and themes within movies or videos. For example, Dylan Marron, an IFP Gotham Award and Drama Desk-nominated writer, performer, and video maker, is known for his specific video edits. Barron’s youtube series involves editing well known films into featuring only scenes in which people of color speak. These videos serve purpose to show the inequality and under-representation of people of color in films. For an example, I’ve provided the link to ‘Every Single Word Spoken by a Person of Color in the Entire 'Harry Potter' Film Series.’ This video remix is about 6 minutes long, which is rather short in comparison to how long the series is (about 20 hours). Only 0.5 % of the entire series shows non-white persons having lines in the movie. On the other hand, the majority of these scenes are announcements, non-main characters, or short interactions. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only movie that proves this theme. Marron deconstructs other popular movies on his channel such as the Lord of the Rings series. The purpose of these remixes are to have the audience recognize inequality and be able to understand it as an ongoing issue that is present in our society’s entertainment world. Inequality and under-representation has been and continues to be a major problem.
