Tolkien Elven Linguistics for Laurelion/Elarion
Digging up my old TDP/Tolkien posts to tag them properly if I'm going to write ANOTHER one and found my initial mention of Laurelion and Laurelin. I'm still personally in favor of interpreting these names through the lens of their Latin roots, but there's that one person who translated Elarion as "Heir of the Stars" in Sindarin and I wanted to see how Laurelion came out, given the same -ion suffix... so I dug up an internet "every language Tolkien made up" dictionary and took a look.
Elarion
Obviously I have to check the reddit rando's work first: yes, el is "star" in basically every elven language (for reasons), and -ion is a suffix that consistently means "son of" or "descendant," used mostly in patronymics, and occasionally as "place of" in naming locations. But that's skipping out on that ar in the middle—ar means "lord" or "noble," particularly as a prefix (Aragorn). There's a similar three-part name in Pelargir, from pel (pen or enclosure), ar, and cir (ships, with the consonant mutation common to Sindarin), so sandwiching ar seems to be valid. It would theoretically get you "child/place of the star-lord," though I think it would be more likely to construct that as arelion, with elarion being "noble child/heir of the star," or if you want the place -ion instead of the person -ion, maybe something like "palace of the star." I don't actually know any grammar, here... but I think the plural form of el is eli, so elar/arel would be singular.
Laurelion
This is a bit simpler, because as in Laurelin (literally "golden song"), laure is just straight-up "gold" in every elven variant. But Laurelin breaks down into laure and lin (song), and it's pretty consistent across all the -ion instances that that if -lion or -rion appear, it's because of being combined with a word finishing in -l or -r. For example, Eldarion from eldar and -ion for "son of the elves star-folk," or Calion from cala/cale and -ion for "son of light." So I don't think we can jump straight to "golden child/heir," and we wouldn't want to... because el means "star." I'm a little surprised Tolkien didn't actually go to laurel as "golden star" but I think he may have been more of a silver stars kinda guy. Anyway, Laurelion could be "child/heir of the golden star."
A Note on El
El does mean "star," but it's specifically an archaic or poetic way of saying it, coming from a root el meaning effectively "lo!" or "behold!" Even in Quenya, the more common form was elen, and Sindarin used gil as the common term for "star" (though retained the archaic el as well). So Laurelion and Elarion both indicate that older word, which is a big HMMMM.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I think this is like 300% more thought than the writers put into this, and while it does seem highly likely there are some real Tolkien nerds among them... most of the fantasy words in TDP are very Latin-based in a pretty heavy-handed manner. So it seems more likely to me that Elarion and Laurelion are meant to be read with their Latin roots, respectively "joy" and... probably "victory" or whatever, "laurel" isn't a word we actually know the root of beyond referring to the laurel tree and leaves thereof, but the association is strong enough that it might as well be a translation.
(Probably worth noting that Tolkien was also fluent in Latin.)
#however... HEIR OF THE GOLDEN STAR???#LIKE... Y'KNOW... THE FUCKING SUN?????????#laurelion#tinfoil hat firmly attached#tdp tolkien#this isn't even the tolkien post i planned help#kradogsmeta

B, D, J, L, T, U
Thanks for the ask moth!! <3
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
LMFAO Agohiru from ES21 😂 I remember when I first got into es21 back in highschool, Hiruma was my fav, but I didn't think much of Agon other than 'wow what an asshole!' and didn't like him. (Also I was a big Hirumamo shipper at the time, and I'm the type who clings onto One Ship for a character and isn't too interested in anything else lol) It wasn't until I got back into it in the last couple of years that I've come to appreciate how much fun it is to bat that asshole around, and just how loaded Hiruma and Agon's ~history~ is.
Though I guess no one person specifically changed my mind, unless you count past me vs present me lol. OH actually, what changed my mind was the fic "Independent Variable" on ff.net. I think I got back into es21 and was like 'you know, hiruma/agon totally has potential' and so was looking up fics of that pairing, and then I read that fic and was lost.
D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t.
Hmmmm oh, Merther (Merlin/Arthur) lol. Their set up as a ship is extremely juicy (two sides of the same coin?? fate ties them together??? conflict because their initial world views are diametrically opposed????) and there's soooo much fic for them, but. I just. I don't like Arthur 😭 Like, I mean, he's FINE. But the writing of the whole show is so inconsistent and there's entire seasons where he's just so shitty to Merlin for no damn reason in a way that I'm supposed to take as funny and silly which pisses me off more.
J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.)
I mean, most shows that have mainstream popularity that I never checked out lol, though I think one that I've seen a lot of shipping art for on my dash is Star Wars? I've seen the main movies, but I think this is from.... Clone Wars, or the Obi-wan show or something. I see a lot of Obi-wan shipped with... one of the clone guys I think lmfao.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.
Hmmmm this isn't even a character I dislike, but whatever-- Judeau! I like him a lot tbh but I also find him shady 😂
I like how his 'friend who gives good advice and just has your best interests at heart' vibe is subverted by his personal biases and emotions, even if he'd probably deny that lol. He's flawed and it colors the advice he gives, and he even has moments that I'd argue are kind of judgy. It's what makes him interesting!
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
Yes! Main one coming to mind rn because I've been thinking about Hiruma (ES21) a lot, is that Hiruma is on the ace spectrum! I'm usually pretty take-it-or-leave-it when it comes to sexuality headcanons, like I can buy most interpretations but I generally don't feel strongly about them, but with Hiruma I really struggle to see him as anything else.
U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.
OOHHHH. Well in Berserk, it's legit a tie between Guts and Griffith. I wouldn't like either one of them as much without the other in their orbit, and Berserk is one of those rare stories where both characters are really complex and compelling in their own way, and bring a lot of significant baggage into their dynamic lmfao. With Guts I love how sensitive he is, and the various ways in which he subverts and deconstructs the Macho Male Power Fantasy™ archetype, how at the end of the day he just wants someone to care about him and find worth in his existence. With Griffith, I love his ideals and his fragility in the face of the sacrifices those ideals demand from him, I love how much he cares and how much he gouges himself for caring, and how all of his stress and guilt and obligation still aren't any match for his love for Guts. And with both of them, I love how their upbringing informs their decisions so well to ruin everything even though they care about each other so much :')
w/ ES21, it's Hiruma lol which might be basic because he's everyone's fav, but for good reason! He's just fucking fun! I love how unhinged and demonic he is, I love the borderline slapstick loony-tunes tyle antics he gets up to, and I love his shamelessness. But I also love how accepting and realistic he is about his limitations, and how that doesn't stop him from striving for the top and going for what he wants. And like, for such an anime-level strategic genius type character, I love that such a core part of what makes him great is that he brings people together and uses teamwork and creativity to overcome everyone's various limitations. He's just-- so much fun!
And because this list is depressingly male lemme throw in a wild card-- Chase from Midnight Furies! It's a webcomic that I recently read for the first time, and Chase is the deuteragonist and a Hiruma expy lol. Which you can definitely tell, they both have the unhinged vibe and shark teeth, as well as the mysterious past and having a lot of cards up their sleeve, but I also think they're quite distinct. Obviously, Chase is a butch lesbian (which really does just add to her cool factor), but also I feel like Midnight Furies is a more grounded story compared to ES21, despite there being supernatural elements lol, and so Chase feels more grounded and realistic as a character. She's a bit more raw in her relationships to other people, and she shows vulnerability more, but she's also much more of a direct physical threat than Hiruma is. Because of that, she has moments where calculation gets thrown out the window in favor of a good ol' beat down, which of COURSE I love to see. And I think she has the capacity to be more ruthless. ANYWAY, awesome character, A+++ (please read Midnight Furies)

Hmmmm could you start by telling what the bungou stray pups-verse is about?
Also you mentioned a wild west + mystery AU with the Tanizaki siblings and a Karma + OC focused underworld AU? Those sound really interesting
Also I have to know, if alphaverse is not omegaverse related then what is it?
so i wrote up a post on bungou stray pups over here!
the wild west + mystery AU and the underworld AU both do have plots! i'll toss em here under the cut
alphaverse is just the code name for another next gen verse i have ahaha, it's got slightly different ships from bspverse
Nowhere in the West
Wild West + Mystery AU
(or, how a pair of teenagers and another pair of middle-aged men accidentally made a family & solved some crimes) When their abusive parents unexpectedly die in a freak car accident, Junichirou and Naomi Tanizaki are faced with a terrifying decision: face the foster care system alone, or move out to the American West with an eccentric Uncle (Soseki Baldwin-Natsume) they never knew they had and his (less eccentric but still fairly unknown) husband (James Baldwin-Natsume). For them, the initial choice is easy, as they could never live without each other or within the foster care system, but life out in the middle of nowhere isn't all it's cracked up to be… at first. They'll soon come to realize that the little town of Nowhere, Nevada is more than meets the eye when they arrive there, and are greeted by the rag-tag group of volunteer detectives their uncles have brought together to solve a great crime which occurred several decades prior. Taming the Wild, Wild West has never run more in the family than it does in this story.
The Underground Diamond in the Rough
Underworld AU
After meeting a mysterious young man his age who promises to give him a life beyond his wildest dreams, 18-year-old previously-homeless orphan Karma finds himself strung along in a series of wild adventures with Ryougo Narita - the aforementioned young man - in a hidden world beneath the surface of the earth known as the Underground. Karma soon comes to learn that Ryougo has been tasked with finding a person called "the Diamond in the Rough" for the King of the Underground, Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, and that Ryougo believes Karma is that person… however, he can't tell him what it is the King seeks him so desperately for, as no one knows. Unfortunately, the King isn't the only person seeking Karma, and after a few narrowly-avoided attempts on his life, Ryougo teams up with a handful of his friends and associates to keep Karma safe for the journey to the King's Palace. This definitely isn't how Karma expected to be adopted into a family, but… maybe it isn't so bad.

I'm bored on a Friday night so why not answer all these!! (It's a later date) (also I know actual plays aren't technically audio dramas, but for the sake of me being the person to answer this, they are) (think of it as just "podcasts"
1. What's the first audio drama you ever listened to? The Adventure Zone: Balance
2. What's a song you associate really strongly with a specific show? "Long Live" by Taylor Swift for Rusty Quill Gaming (thanks Bryn)
3. State some things you'd like to hear in the next show you listen to and let your follower recommend things to you. I'm not gonna do this cause most of my followers have suggested shows and I have a list a mile long.
4. What's your favorite completed show? Probably TAZ:B or TAZ:A (Amnesty)
5. Name a trope you like that's specific to audio drama. Not sure if it counts as a trope, but good sound effects.
6. What's your favourite audio drama ship? Tough one. Taako and Kravitz, Aubrey and Danny, and Zolf and Wilde.
7. What's your favorite piece of music from any show? Anything written by Griffin for TAZ and also "The Lament of the Phoenix" from The Amelia Project.
8. If you could have a crossover between any two shows, which would it be? I think The Amelia Project and TAZ Amnesty would be fun! Imagine the chaos.
9. What's your favorite character dynamic to write/listen to? Banter hands down. I love listening to and writing witty remarks.
10. Recommend a show! GIRL IN SPACE ONG PLEASE GO LISTEN TO IT. @girlinspacepodcast
11. What are you currently listening to? I'm currently listening to The Amelia Project and Dimension 20 Fantasy High S1.
12. If you could adapt any public domain work into an audio drama, what would it be? Hmmmm as much as I wasn't a huge fan of the book, I think Frankenstein would make for a fun podcast.
13. [ASKER CHOICE PODCAST] TV show fancast (funny or serious). I'm terrible at fancasts. The only thing I can picture is Alan Burgen playing his own character from Amelia.
14. Which audio drama would you most want to live in? Oh now that's tough, probably one lf the TAZ worlds.
15. Uno reverse! What's a question YOU want to ask everyone else about audio drama? What/who got you into them? For me it was my best friend who started TAZ on a whim and cackled as I caught up to them.
16. What's a role you heard an actor in, but almost didn't recognize them? Alan Burgen. I heard him first in @thekilda and heard him second in Amelia. Took an entire season for me to realize. (even though both shows list credits at the end of each ep)
17. Top fics [ASKED CHOOSES TOPIC] in audio drama. I'm gonna do top five finales.
1. TAZ Balance
2. TAZ Amnesty
3. S4 The Amelia Project
4. S4 The Magnus Archives
5. S3 Rusty Quill Gaming
18. Design an outfit for [ASKER CHOOSES CHARACTER]. I'm doing Alvina from Amelia. I think she would be dressed sensibly but comfortably. Jeans, t-shirt, sturdy shoes, that sort of thing.
19. Which podcast do you think would make a great TTRPG book? Amelia! Having to work out how to come up with elaborate schemes to fake deaths? So fun!
20. Which podcast character do you think would have their own podcast in an AU? Alvina again. She seems the industrious type. They're a lot of work!
21. Favorite audio drama sphere meme? Hands down the "no beta we kayak like Tim" AO3 tag.
22. Which episode of an audio drama do you think you've listened to the most? Hard to say since I don't really do individual eps on their own. I do full relistens. Probably the middle of RQG.
23. Why do you like audio drama as a medium? Because it's completely accessable to me (I know not to everyone and I'll bang pots and pans for propper transcripts right along side you)
24. What show are you most looking forward to that isn't out yet? I don't have one currently. I've dropped off the audio drama sphere a bit. I will say I'm looking forward to the rest of Amelia!!
If you made it this far, thanks for humoring me!

Game of Thrones - 15 SANSA (pages 133-146)
Sansa's lunch date with the queen is cancelled when folks from the capital arrive to meet the procession, so Joffrey takes her on an unsupervised date in the countryside that goes well, until it doesn't, and then it goes Very Wrong, Very Quickly.
-
The Septa was not appeased. "You're a good girl, Sansa, but I do vow, when it comes to that creature, you're as willful as your sister Arya." She scowled. "And where is Arya this morning?" "She wasn't hungry," Sansa said, knowing full well that her sister had probably stolen down to the kitchen hours ago and wheedled a breakfast out of some cook's boy.
Oh, that's interesting. "when it comes to (Lady), you're (as) willful" And again, with Sansa not taking an easy path to getting her sister in trouble.
"I hate riding," Sansa said fervently. "All it does is get you soiled and dusty and sore."
I know I need to stop projecting, but it's too late. I've head-canoned Sansa as autistic until further notice. ('Elle Woods' Autism specifically which isn't a medically real thing, but just a term coined by a youtuber iirc, for the type of "high functioning" (hang on, sorry just threw up in my mouth a lil.) autism found in girls where they become over invested in stereotypically girly things because it provides them with a set of rules to follow (and also keeps them away from some non-fun sensory squicks like dirt!) which some people think Elle Woods of Legally Blond might have. Not all autistic people are maths geniuses.)
-and lizard-lions floating half submerged in the water, like black logs with eyes and teeth.
Crikey! Lizard-lions are just alligators or crocodiles, aren't they?
Still Sansa wrenched away from him, and the Hound laughed, and Lady moved between them, rumbling a warning. Sansa dropped to her knees to wrap her arms around the wolf. ... -and Sansa realized that the two stranger knights were looking down on her and Lady, swords in their hands, and then she was frightened again, and ashamed. Tears filled her eyes. ... Sansa knew the name, and now courtesies that Septa Mordane had taught her over the years came back to her.
Lady is a Service Dog. That is Sansa's Emotional Support Wolf. No, but it is interesting (to me) that 'shame' ranks up there with fear for Sansa in this moment, because this whole exchange reads... look, let's just say: the head-canon is not getting less head-canoned. I noticed she also had some serious sensitivity to embarrassment, but she recovered pretty quickly once she got to start basically info dumping, when she's sharing knowledge from one of her special interests. Yeah, I'm just going to see how long I can read Sansa as Autistic~
Sorry if that was not the takeaway you expected from this read through~
He was so gallant, she thought. The way he had rescued her from Ser Ilyn and the Hound, why, it was almost like the songs, like the time Serwyn of the Mirror Shield saved the Princess Daeryssa from the giants, or Prince Aemon the Dragonknight championing Queen Naerys's honor against the evil Ser Morgil's slander.
Hmmmm, I'll give her Joffrey did tell of the Hound, but Ser Ilyn? Mmmmmm... Oh, Also: Neeeeeerd! jk, I love her. She is literally a member of Fandom. *Absolutely anything happens: "omg this is just like my blorbos! this totally has my ship's main vibes!"*
The touch of Joffrey's hand on her sleeve made her heart beat faster. "What would you like to do." Be with you, Sansa thought, but she said, "whatever you'd like to do, my prince." Joffrey reflected a moment. "We could go riding." "Oh, I love riding," Sansa said.
You know, like a liar. No but seriously, babe, I have done this, do not do this, faking your interest just to get along with someone is so taxing. Also, the touch making her heart beat faster could be anxiety, that's a thing that happens when strangers touch people. Anxiety.
No, but autism hc aside, she is trying so hard right now, willing to do something she really doesn't like just to spend time with the boy she's (as far as she knows) going to marry, trying to get to know him, to like what he likes. Unfortunately, he's a piece of complete trash.
She wanted to hit herself for being so slow. Her prince would never lover her if she seemed stupid.
Knowing how lowkey not good the mental health space around the Stark children was at Winterfell... oh look, a flag from the red end of the spectrum. Sorry but this smacks lightly of emotional abuse and reasoning "if I am X, I will be worthy of love."
They dined on trout fresh from the river, and Sansa drank more wine than she had ever drunk before. "My father only let's us have one cup, and only at feasts," she confessed to her prince. "My betrothed can drink as much as she wants," Joffrey said, refilling her cup. They rode more slowly after they had eaten. Joffrey sang for her as they rode, his voice high and sweet and pure. Sansa was a little dizzy from the wine.
Joffrey took her out unsupervised and got her drunk you say?
-but Joffrey was in no mood to listen. The wine had made him wild.
And this is why underaged drinking is Bad. Like Joffrey, who, lbh, probably would have picked this fight stone cold sober.
Sansa was afraid. "Arya, you stay out of this." *The violent t(w)eenage version of the "well that escalated quickly" meme
oh, if only Nymeria had finished the job, and the girls got their story straight. "oh, it was horrible, the pack of wild dogs came out of nowhere, Joffrey tried to defend us, but they just surrounded him and mauled him to death, if it hadn't been for Nymeria, his valiant dying efforts would have been in vain. UwU"

Ooh you’re watching Downton Abbey??
What are your thoughts so far?
I am!!!!!! I've just finished season two, and I am LOVING it so far!!
Lord Grantham was dead to me for a while there, for kissing that maid, Jane. I do not APPROVE of EXTRA-MARITAL SHENANIGANS. It drives me INSANE, and you may quote me on that. But he's back in my good graces for telling Mary that she deserved better than Sir Richard
Speaking of Sir Richard, my favorite character in this show was established when he told Cousin Violet that she wouldn't be seeing him again, and she responded, "Do you promise?" Because. Mood
In case it's not clear, I did Not like him, and Cousin Violet is literally my favorite character
Although I do DEEPLY love Anna and Bates, and I can't wait til he gets out of prison. Anna's just... terribly SENSIBLE and WHOLESOME. I adore her
Matthew and Mary are up there, too, actually. If I had a nickel for every time I got emotionally attached to a lawyer named Matthew who was a cinnamon roll, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. Also, after prolonged shenanigans, they're FINALLY together, which makes me REALLY happy
Side note: so many people ship those two, they should have their own fan club
I didn't like Edith until they made Downton into a convalescent home, at which point she kinda came into her own, and grew on me IMMENSELY. She needs a good boyfriend
Sybil is a DARLING. As for her and Tom, my brain just goes, "And they were Socialists" "Oh my gosh, they were Socialists!" Like, I saw they were both political, and I was all, hmmmm, ship?
My little sister hates Cora's accent, but I think it's beautiful. I find her delightful, and her and Isobel's rivalry is kiiiinda great
I also love how much Isobel was shipping Mary and Matthew in that last episode. Because. Mood
Mrs. Hughes and Carson MIGHT be the best duo in the show. Just saying. I love how they're besties, but they're also mild rivals over the fact that Mary is Carson's problematic fave, and Mrs. Hughes does Not like her
I have mixed feelings about Daisy, but she's definitely growing on me, actually
How dare they do this to poor darling William???? How DARE they??
Thomas and O'Brien are a sinister duo for the AGES, though they aren't ALL bad, are they? Hazel was FIRMLY convinced that they were gonna shoot Sir Richard and bury him behind a shed, and we probably wouldn't have blamed them, to be honest
Whew. Sorry for the rant!
Who are your favorite characters, and what are your thoughts?
Thanks for the ask!

Things that made watching Transformers (2007) easier and even enjoyable:
[note: B'verse gets the treatment that it gets by fandom for good reasons. There are tons of posts that dissect the bullshit of these movies far better than my second-language-english-non-american self could ever tackle, so I am not doing that, or plan on doing that. But if I decide that I'll get through every continuity of the franchise I will find a way to make it fun for myself. And so, this is my search for golden nuggets in these movies, because they did bring in new fans to the franchise and that's why we have other continuities that we might not have otherwise. Credit where it's due, and some positivity for those that did find B'verse at least amusing if nothing else. ]
🍴🥄🔪🍴🥄🔪🍴🥄🔪🍴🥄🔪🥄🔪🍴🥄🔪
Frenzy
Anytime Frenzy was on screen made me smile because his movements and personality were hilarious, he is just so expressive despite looking like someone super glued a bunch of knifes together. I wouldn't know it was Frenzy if I didn't go to the Wiki, but no matter that, he was funny and that's what matters.
The original Cybertronian robot modes
We don't see them for long, but the glimpses were glorious. Just look at Optimus
Gorgeous. What I wouldn't give to see the details up close. Maybe I'll go looking eventually, but this is just so nice.
We also get a "sexily rises from the pool" scene with Ironhide (probably unintentional and I am biased due to being a robofucker. In any case, very very nice and Cybertronians look so good as aliens)
"Excuse me, are you the Tooth Fairy?"
You see this kid?
This little girl was the only human I cared about in the movie until I saw just how badass Mikaela is, and how cool the military dude is. I don't like kids, but I would lay down my life for this girl.
This one scene just makes me think of what would happen if her parents showed up way earlier. Ironhide would be her guardian and it would be both adorable and hilarious because "Honey, you have to drive in a sentient alien that looks just like our car because the goverment men said so or there will be consequences and potential alien threats."
There are so many joke potentials there; the cultural barrier, the "I am the ine that is supposed to keep her safe" glaring contests, there is just so much shenanigans that could happen.
Also, tea party with the kid. Tea party with the kid.
Sam Witwicky actually reacts like an average human would when faced with the situations he finds himself in
Do I like Sam Witwicky? No, he is the kind of character that I would want to punch irl because of his personality and actions. He is disgusting. But watching him scamper and scream and stutter when faced with giant metal robot aliens that can squish him like a bug? Good, that was a beliavable reaction and I enjoyed it a great deal.
Megatron. Just, Megatron✨
(the best screenshot of the few I could take while watching, no, I am not going back for a better one, he looks perfect like this)
I also laughted at how they kept him frozen like a popsicle. And not even well, like, they COULD'VE made an actual freezer and pop him in instead of using those couple of tubes just so he was displayed for all personell to gawk at. HE CRASHED IN THE ANTARCTIC!
The design looks so good, because it looks ALIEN and POINTY and AGH!!! The colors? There are no colors that would make him stand out, he looks like someone opened a cutlery drawer, mixed up what's inside, threw in some extra knifes for a good measure and then shook the whole thing until this guy materialized from the pile. It is both incredibly annoying and satisfying.
🔪
Mr. Welker did an amazing job with his voice, I don't know what the directions were, but oh man it sure sent shivers down my spine. That is the kind of voice that spells "You are going to die" and I already have my coffin picked out.
EDIT: SO APPARENTLY! IT WAS NOT WELKER THAT VOICED MEGATRON.
It was Hugo Weaving, and yes the man did am amazing job, but I apologize a million times, I was CERTAIN that THE OG VA OF MEGATRON WOULD ALSO HAVE VOICED MEGATRON. LIKE, OKAY BAY, OKAY!
🔪
LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF ICE! With how quick he came back fully online once Frenzy turned off the freeze liquid tubes, I bet he was half awake through the whole thing. Systems just below idling or something, in any case, AGENTS YOU ARE SO DUMB! WHO WAS GIVING SUBPAR FUNDING TO THEM, THEY BETTER BE FIRED!
I also was glad that Sam refused to call him by the name the sector asigned to him, despite Megatron being in stasis. And that he insisted they use the correct name. Good job Sam, acknowledge the threat by the actual name and show respect to a fellow sentient lifeform. Even though said lifeform is hellbent on destruction of the universe and your world.
ALSO, AND I CANNOT STRESS THE LAUGHTER AND AMUSEMENT HERE; the sheer DISRESPECT! They don't disassemble Megatron's corpse. No, these idiots, these absolute morons decide to dump him into the ocean, letting him sink to the lowest possible point (not sure if they did say it was the M' Trench or not), where there are proper freezing temperatures - good! You're learning, good job!! - just... In full. Full corpse. What's left of him. Just blup! Down with the fishies he goes!
I understand that they probably didn't know how to approach Optimus about it, but... At least behead the guy. He came back ONCE, who is to say he won't come back again?! Safety precautions my dears.
They also completely disregard what a giant extraterrestrial metal alien rusting away on the bottom of the ocean could do to the ecosystem at large. Like, I find this incredibly amusing, because this ISN'T something most folks think about when watching a movie but we have giant squids down there. We have so much weird things down there, the ocean isn't even fully explored AND YOU WANT TO CHUCK AN ALIEN CORPSE DOWN THERE?!
Now the real question: is he a looker? *looks at the pictures* hmmmm, depends on if you like knifes. Like, really like knifes. Like really, really REALLY want to get it on with a fine assembly of kitchen knifes that were exposed to the elements but somehow haven't rusted away completely.
I think he's neat.
Needs a good long powerwash though. Preferrably with something to help the whole "I was frozen for more than 50 years and sprang back to action as soon as I woke up" thing that happened.
My man needs to take a moment and get his bearings, like dude. Please. You can conquer the world after some energon and slow system boot-up period. The strain on the systems my dude, you ain't young.
Also love that this "death" was probably reused in TFP because lord golly, do we love our faves ending up under the sea. (Though Megan took a much bigger fall, Bayverse WAS PLOPPED INTO THE WATER LIKE A NEWLY ACQUIRED FISH I CAN'T YOU GUYS I CAN'T!)
In short: I love the comedy of american military giving such disrespect to an Alien Warlord. These guys are really sealing their fate.
I loved the way they got the Witwicky family to be important to the plot
The whole "selling my great great grandpa's glasses on e-bay" thing gives us a very good self insert/OC/rewrite/movie AU potential. Don't like Sam and his disgustingness? Find a way to write a cousin or some far off relative or hell, even just someone who buys the glasses off e-bay and go wild with it!
Archibald was also clearly an inspiration for Isaac Sumdac as far as I can tell, what with both of them using Megatron as a means of helping technology advance.
Only difference being one of them lived and actually talked to Megatron after he came back online and the other got driven to madness and death due to the amount of information beamed into his brain. Isaac also acquired a space baby daughter, so the guy is absolutely luckier of the two.
Mikaela being fucking competent and badass throughout the movie, and not being just fanservice eyecandy
I could do without the fanservice, but her personality? I loved it. I loved that she wasn't crawling to Sam and wasn't being "hard to get". Which is also why I was very displeased at the very sudden "oh yeah, romance! She returns his feelings after he took her for a ride and let her vent her frustrations!". The movie is 2 hours long and they could throw in some moments where these two connect?
Welp, it is an action movie, boy gets girl no matter what, can't complain about the staple in the genre.
However, Mikaela x Optimus? Now THAT is something I considered as soon as the two locked eyes and interacted. Like, even taking my shipping goggles off, these two could have a very interesting dynamic and Mikaela could be a very good protagonist. I wonder what the movie would be like with her as the lead and Sam being the fucking moron she has to drag along with her.
BUT ALSO! Can we talk about the horrible, excruciating fact that her and Bumblebee drove around with Bee's damaged legs dragging over asphalt all the time he was shooting at 'Cons? There were sparks flying! SHE WAS DRIVING BACKWARDS! She took command of the situation and did what she could because Bee still wanted TO FIGHT!
Also, they way she beat up Frenzy? Gorgeous, I want to slap Sam's non-existent balls off for not atleast saying "thanks". The dude would be sliced thinner than cabbage if she wasn't there.
The millitary man we are supposed to care about because his wife gave birth while he was on duty and we see his baby three times in the whole movie, actually being a pretty awesome and well-written character
Look, personally, I was a little confused at the reason why we were seeing his wife and baby interacting/the scene where she thinks her husband is dead. Mostly because I don't like kids, so scenes like that, when I don't even know who the character is, have no impact at all. Him having a baby isn't going to make me like the guy more, unless I know his character. Him being absent because he's on duty doesn't mean he'll be a good dad (though he looks like the kind of man that will try his best, and I like that in a man). So seeing his wife and kid at the start of the movie seemed pointless to me.
BUT! FOCUSING ON THE POSITIVES HERE!
Lennox is a good character and whenever he was on screen I was invested in what is going to happen to him. He's the kind of action movie lead that would have me invested, despite my meh interest in mainly gun fight oriented action movies.
Essentially, loved the guy, would love to see more of him while also being able to tell what's happening on screen. Also the comedy scenes he was in were usually funny.
~
Okay so these are the things I like about the first movie! It was very long, had to watch it on 2,5x speed because it simultainously dragged while ALSO giving me too much information, but the moments like these and the way my imagination latched onto characters I liked made it watchable. It isn't a movie I'd use to introduce someone to the TF franchise, but it provided me with lots of material for my imagination to run wild.
#moca watches#transformers#transformers bayverse#moca screeches#Yes the cutlery divider is due to the Decepticons looking like they do. It amuses me greatly.

Alright I’ll bite :) for the emoji game: 🥺🛠 💖 🧠 ✅ For the character headcanon, dealers choice!
Oooh awesome thank you thank you!! These got long so apologies in advance XD
(emoji fanfic writer asks are here for anyone curious!)
🥺 (pleading face emoji) - Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
Oh god SO many. I am basically in my feels about characters all the time, hahaha! I have lots of feels about small, casual moments of tenderness, especially between characters who might not find that sort of thing as easy. Characters expressing their love for each other, no matter how small the moment (a quiet I love you, the brush of lips against knuckles, hair tucked behind an ear) also give me many feels. Another (and one that tends to happen commonly for me lol, I really like exploring grief) is when characters experience moments of grief, in the many ways it can show up - I get equally deep in my feels if someone comforts them, or if they have to suffer through it alone, but for different reasons XD
🛠 (tools emoji) What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?
I primarily use Microsoft Word, both in desktop and mobile form - it's the program I am most familiar with, and I like the formatting on it. I'm also a gremlin who writes many, many things straight into discord channels jskskss (keysmash). I am in two fandom specific servers that I like to ask for prompts from, and I tend to write those directly into discord.
For fics that I'm co-writing, I use Google Docs, because it's easiest for sharing a file that we can both access. However, beyond it's sharing capacity, I kind of hate it, so I don't use it outside of that XD
💖(sparkling heart emoji) What made you start writing?
I already shared what made me start writing in general in this ask (TLDR: I fell deep into a new fandom, wanted to read something that didn't exist, decided to write it myself. Combined with the need for a new hobby and a supportive discord, I kept writing!), so instead I will tell you about what made me start writing OFMD fic XD
Basically kind of the same thing as for why I started writing in general, actually? I wanted to see more Jim whump fics, and I fell deep, deep in love with Jim and OFMD in general. Originally I was only going to write the Old West AU I've got kicking around (because old west is what I'm most familiar with, my other fandom is a cowboy setting), and then I just... got a thousand plot bunnies, as tends to happen, and now here we are.
🧠 (brain emoji) - Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them. Dealer's choice!
Dealer's choice means Jim Jimenez right now XD
Hmmmm, picking a favourite headcanon for them is hard - but I think one of the ones that I really adore is that Jim eventually starts to see Frenchie as a brother. Like, definitely a speculative headcanon, but in fics where they have time together on the ship I love the idea of Jim calling him hermano, and them just being wonderful shenanigans siblings. I wanna see it!!! But also I love writing it!!
Another one that I have is that Jim finds it a lot easier expressing their love and using pet names in Spanish - something about it being a language that's closer to their heart, and closer to the tenderness of their past.
✅ (white check mark emoji) - What's something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don't mean to?
Weirdly enough, broken wrists??? I have written 3 fics now which feature a wrist getting broken which, in the grand scheme of things, isn't that much but it's still weird that it's happened 3 times hahah.
Also hair washing scenes. Love me a good soft hair washing scene!!!! The soft domesticity of it all!!!! The tenderness!!! I have yet to write a Jim-focused hair washing scene and I don't know why, but you can bet it's going to happen!!!!
Thank you so much for the ask!!!

Fic Writer Questions! (you can find me here on AO3 if you're interested!)
tagged by dear @theburialofstrawberries mwah!
1) How many works do you have on AO3?
112 yowza!
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?
750,421 kinda tempted to go delete one word so it can be 750420 which is a far more Pleasing number
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
12ish but some of them overlap: BBCS/Sherlock Holmes/ACD (these are all different bc my bbcs fics are not the same as my own modern fem Sherlock Holmes adaptation are not the same as my ACD Holmes fic; Good Omens; Harry Potter/The Werewolf Draco Malfoy Cinematic Universe; Captive Prince; The Hobbit; Fleabag (it was a crossover with BBCS but Fleabag is the perspective character so it still counts as a separate fandom imo); Doctor Who; The Office; Parks and Rec; Broad City (one a piece for those last 5 but I AM going to write a Parks and Rec polycule fic for @gaykagome)
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
They're all Good Omens fics from the 2019 Summer of Good Omens! Susceptible to Summer, Fragments Shored Against My Ruin, Something So Magic, Enter Serpent, and Anything We Like
All of those have over 2k except the last one, but average engagement for me is like 400 kudos or so
5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I try! It depends on what's going on with me. Sometimes I just don't have the energy, and I figure people would rather I spend my brain power on writing new fics than on writing replies to comments. Wish I had a fave button tho so I could let people know I read and reread comments, because I do!
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Oh I wrote this ficlet series called A Chemical Defect about John and Sherlock's relationship in s3 of BBCS, and it's WILDLY unpopular. People don't read my fic to cry sad tears I guess! John and Sherlock are having an affair in the story, and it ends with the implication that their relationship is unsustainable and that Mary knows about it anyway. I intended to come back to it after s4 and write a more optimistic ending but LOL! Didn't have the heart.
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
I know this answer is kinda up my own ass, but like. I think stories that feel true to life sort of feel like they end on a beginning if you know what I mean? You don't really consider a chapter of your life closed until you look back on it from the next? SO that said, I think I'd have to say that it's my big BBCS serial The Only One in the World. I spent 2 years writing it, and it ends with John retiring from medicine to solve crimes and write books full time.
Could also be my WDMCU (werewolf Draco Malfoy cinematic universe) series Moonrise, which starts with Draco isolated in his abusive mother's house, trying to cope with lycanthropy essentially alone and ends with him in love and surrounded by found family in a cozy cottage in Hogsmeade, having gotten some lycanthrope rights legislation passed after working at it for years and talking to Harry about whether they want to have kids. Oh man I feel warm and fuzzy just thinking about it
8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?
I have written one crossover. It's BBCS/Fleabag, because me and @loudest-subtext-in-tv were laughing about how John seems like one of the horrible guys Fleabag sleeps with basically out of self loathing, so I wrote this fic to make Nattie laugh, and you should read it bc it's so good and so underrated.
9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not really, but people don't seem to know that authors can read bookmark tags unless you private the bookmark, and someone once put in the bookmark tag on one of my fics 'writing was meh but it was okay.' Okay so why bookmark it then??
10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Fuck yes! I'm not sure what 'what kind?' means? People fucking? Sloppy, silly, and awkward, with lots of laughing. I also really like writing afterglow scenes which are even sillier and gigglier and often involve one character cooking for another. Food as love language is a very distinct pattern of mine tbh
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of, but occasionally I'll write a post on here where I make some elaborate head canon, and I'll see people in the tags talking about how they want to write fic of it, and it makes me breathe fire out of my nose like a dragon like PLEASE DON'T. The WDMCU came out of a ficlet post I made on here like a year before I actually wrote the 60k series so like!!! Please don't do that!
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! To Russian and I believe Chinese. Not my entire oeuvre but a handful of BBCS and Good Omens fics
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, but I wrote a fic inspired by an RP I did with my gf right around when we met (actually now that I think about it, it's two fics), and I waaaaaaanna do a WDMCU collab with my beloved Sally @clytemenestras at some point if he has time bc he inspired me to even write werewolf draco with his original lesbian werewolf story
14) What’s your all time favorite ship?
favorites are hard for me? I always think I'm currently doing my best writing lol so I'll say drarry
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I don't post fics unless theyre finished, so I don't have any WIP up on AO3, but I did intend to continue with my fem Sherlock Holmes series, Your Many Tendencies. I just haven't been in a Holmes mood for a long time. Maybe I'll come back to it idk. This particular series is honestly very unpopular? People will just straight up say they don't read femslash, and it hurts a lot. This series feels really personal too, bc it's about a Black autistic nonbinary lesbian, so it does hurt my feelings that no one seems to care, yknow? I mean the people who read it are extremely kind and thoughtful in their engagement with it, but it has vastly less engagement than my m/m fic, and that's painful. It gets literally 1/10 the attention my fics usually get.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Almost all of my writing is romance, but I tend to write concurrently about recovery and found family, and I think I'm very good at doing that in a way that connects with my audience. I once had someone ask if they could use my words in their wedding vows, and I've had people tell me they started doing things with their spouse that my characters do with their partners in order to express love. I think about that all the time. My Impact. It makes me feel like I have a real duty to my audience yknow?
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
This question is hard for me like I've been writing so long and so much that I'm literally always happy with my final draft! It's always exactly to my taste, yknow? I suppose I could say that my fics tend not to be terribly plotty but so WHAT? That's beside the fuckn point for me. Plot who? I don't know Her. Also honestly like. Stories feel more True to me when they aren't ruthlessly devoted to plot bc like life isn't like that yknow?
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
If you're not fluent in that language, get a beta who is!!!!! That said, I have written scraps of very simple dialogue in French using mostly Google Translate (sometimes I check w Sally bc he speaks French but I am usually too impatient), and I am perfectly well aware that I take my life in my hands each time!!! Also don't do that bullshit thing where it's in italics? That shit is weird and exoticizing. Just write it in quotation marks like normal dialogue.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
BBCS babey back in 2012. Ended a 5 year dry spell for me after I got my writing degree.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Hmmmm I think it's probably gonna be the fic I'm working on now that I haven't posted yet, but I know it's called Names for a House, and here's a tiny bit of it
Thanks again Shreya for asking me to do this bc I really love talking about myself. I tag @the-moon-loves-the-sea, @clytemenestras, @tomiano, @gaykagome and @totallysilvergirl
No pressure <3
#sherlock stuff#ask games#apliddell#if y'all wanna send me asks about names for a house#or anything else i mentioned here#they would be welcome

I wonder if I would've liked the Molly/Sherlock ship if they hadnt have done the whole queerbaiting. Had not have had John obviously flirting with Sherlock at Angelos. When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable — or, you know, extramarital — must be the truth.
Queerbait or Johnlock proof.
Exhibit A: The Meet Cute
Their eyes met across a crowded morgue... Was it love at first sight — or just annoyance? Sure, Watson and Holmes met in much the same way Doyle wrote it in A Study in Scarlet, over 100 years ago, but a cheeky wink is worth a thousand words, right? Maybe not. Maybe so. What we do know is that two dudes almost instantly agreeing to shack up with each other based on the advice of a mutual acquaintance neither appears to respect much (or ever see again) seems unusual.
Exhibit B: The Long Stares
Oh, the stares! Perhaps this is just Benedict Cumberbatch's face, but we have to say it is hard to see nothing but platonic manly affection in those bright baby blues.
Exhibit C: The Protestations
The doctor doth protest too much? Throughout Sherlock, characters always seem to "mistake" Watson and Holmes for a real couple. Holmes never minds, but Watson gets super frustrated. Why can't you just laugh it off, Watson? Does your exasperation shield hidden feelings? Are we reading too much into this entirely?
Exhibit D: The Domestic Bliss
Not that this is hard evidence per se (or that anything on this list should qualify as "hard evidence"), but this is sort of adorable. Coffee and the paper and matching smiles. This could be you guys every morning, Johnlock!
Exhibit E: The Crackling Chemistry
Yes, bros can have chemistry, but we reserve a special level of chemistry for bros cracking up at Buckingham while one of them is in nothing but a sheet.
Exhibit F: Whatever This Is
So this is How to Convey Longing on Camera 101, right? We're trying to keep an open mind here, but at least one person behind the camera on Sherlockmust be trying to tell us something. Throw in some moody music, and you can make an entire case for Johnlock on this one GIF alone.
Exhibit G: The Peeking John
Whatcha lookin' at, Watson? (And Tom Hiddleston?)
Exhibit H: The Knee Touch Heard 'Round the World
This is the kind of moment fandom dreams are made of. It was powered by alcohol and a night of hard partying — and Watson's nearing nuptials — but whether a touch of friendship or something more, the gesture solidified their enduring closeness (and how drunk they both were). When the two men realized what happened, Watson smiled and said, "I don't mind." Hmmmm.
Exhibit I: The Runaways
No, they're not holding hands — they're binded by handcuffs. The seemingly provocative situation was actually born out of a very unprovocative hostage and police chase situation, but it works as Johnlock evidence. Yup, just look at those stares again. Does anyone on television gaze into each other's eyes as much as Watson and Holmes?
Exhibit J: The Cheeky Bickering
Come on, all the best couples have a little sassy give and take. With Holmes' big ego and Watson's dry wit, these two have their special brand of bickering down to a science.
Exhibit K: The Tragic (Fake) End
In grand Shakespearean tradition, our star-crossed lovers — okay, not really — seemed to meet a ghastly end in the Season 2 finale. There was a leap, a pool of blood, and a very, very distraught Watson. Maybe Watson was so torn up because, you know, his best friend had just died, or maybe he was struggling with all the things he never got a chance to tell Holmes.
Exhibit L: The Bittersweet Embrace
So here's what Johnlock enthusiasts have a little trouble reconciling: the whole awkward affair of Watson getting married to a woman named Mary Morstan. Whoops. Holmes was his best man, of course, and the two shared a sweet hug at the reception, but does this mean the ship's dead? Was all this for naught? Say it isn't so...
Series 4 of Sherlock pretty much killed Johnlock..lets be honest. However, I still believe in Series 1-3 and TAB.
Why would Sherlock not love John intead of John?
Technically its impossibe.
However if the writers were being blatant assholes and were QUEERBAITING and planned on Sherlock being straight!
They can suck it!

Hmmm... HMMMM.... It is 3:30am and my brain isn't working, I'm just on here to quickly do queues! BUT! I saw this post. Have you seen @buggiebreak 's camp bughead is going on? Could you do a short prompt for tomorrow, Animation? Any favorite animated movies/shows you could do an au for? OMG. Just thought about Anastasia Bughead AU moment, have you seen that? Some small scene from something maybe?
“
As you may know, IM SUPER LATE on this… but my inactivity was for a reason and I know sarah understands that as much as anyone :) I absolutely LOVE Anastasia and I think the dancing scene with her and Dimitri would be a perfect bughead au. I wanted to add an extra twist to it sooooo I am going to use all the little tid bits of dialogue between the two in this AU! I am thinking about posting it on AO3 because I do love this… anyways! For Sarah, @theheavycrown , enjoy love!
She had always been beautiful, Elizabeth Cooper. I guess I didn’t notice that until she was holding my hands, dancing with me. She has these big green eyes you could stare into for hours, then you fall completely for her before you even begin. She’s been missing for 10 years with apparent amnesia and a big price tag on her head. Me and my partner came up with a plan to cash in the money, with no apparent “finding” of her. All we needed was an Elizabeth look-a-like, then the money was ours. We set out to find a girl, and we soon were satisfied with our findings.
We found a girl, going by the name Betty, and asked her to Paris and she was willing to come with us. She didn’t have much memory on things, which was an quality odd at first, but we only had our eye the big cash prize she was being traded for. We didn’t have time to fret about silly things. We boarded her on our ship soon after, readying her for the ball. She needed to learn ballroom etiquette and more importantly, how to dance. Vlad asked her to put on the dress set out for her, then she would be fit to start her dance lesson. As soon as she was done she walked out to the ship deck, brushing off her lengthy blue dress. As soon as she looked up to me, I knew. It made perfect sense all at once.
This was Elizabeth Cooper. This was the lost duchess everyone was desperately looking for. Before I could study more, I felt Vlad strongly gripping me, pulling me towards her. I have never danced very well before but I couldn’t stop the urge to be closer to her. We started dancing, stiff at first, with her leading. Vlad quickly corrected this, as she nodded her head lightly. We looked at each other for a moment, looking deep within each others eyes, intense but light. I then reached out for her as we placed our steadily, ready to start again. As we started, I grabbed a few words from my head, anything from my head to let her know she looked beautiful.
“ That, -uh dress is really beautiful.”
She tilted her head and slightly smiled.
“ Do you think so?”
She said this lightly, her voice simply floating through my head as I try to work up the words to express her beauty.
“ Yes.”
My heart and mind was begging for me to continue.
“ I mean it was nice on the hanger but it looks even better on you, you sh- you should wear it.” I continued. Real smooth, Jughead.
She tilted her head innocently. “ I am wearing it.”
I chuckled at the innocence as she twirled back into our normal dancing position. “ Of course, Of course -uh right.” I just can’t keep my cool around her. “ I’m just trying to give you uh–um…” I looked down.
“ A compliment?” She asks, looking deeper, searching before meeting my eyes as I get lost in hers instantly.
“ Of course, yes.” We don’t continue to speak, but we do continue to glide across the deck of the ship. I begin to study everything I love about her, and I can’t find anything wrong with her. Her ponytail, her light freckles across her cheeks. Her bright green eyes, her innocent smile. Elizabeth Cooper had been missing for 10 years, but I feel as though I have loved her for longer. Our dancing becomes more light and free as she becomes confident, her smile radiating as I twirl and glide along with her. We begin to waltz and we instantly intertwine as she twirls back into position as her smile widens. We begin to slow as we are staring deeper before she speaks once more.
“ I feeling…dizzy.”
“ A little lightheaded?” I smile at her, slowing our waltz further.
“ Yeah.”
“ Me too. Probably from spinning.” It wasn’t the spinning. It’s you, Elizabeth. I bring her arms down, our hands still intertwined and gazes still locked. “ Maybe we should stop.”
“ We have stopped.” She remarks, with the same innocent tone. I look down, hoping to find courage. I look up again with a slight smile.
“ Betty, I…”
“ Yes?” She looks deeper, I know she feels it too. I know she feels the connection. My bones begin to ache as we both lean in, breathe on each other’s lips. In this moment, I so badly wanted to kiss her. If I only could’ve. As her lips barely brushed, I knew once I did this, I could never happen again. This was something I simply couldn’t promise. I desperately wanted to meet her lips but if I did, I could never let her go, something I had to do. It was already hard enough from this moment, I simply couldn’t bare making it any harder. I took one more moment before opening my eyes and patting her hand.
“ You’re doing fine.” I walked away as she looked off after me, but I simply couldn’t bare standing there one more moment without kissing her. I had to leave before that happened. I must deliver her to Paris. It is where she belongs.
I LOVE this! This was written for ( and suggested by ) Sarah AKA @theheavycrown !!
I hope you enjoyed I spent lots of time on it!

DuckTales 2017 - “The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!”
Story by: Francisco Angones, Madison Bateman, Colleen Evanson, Christian Magalhaes, Bob Snow
Written by: Francisco Angones
Directed by: John Aoshima
Storyboard by: Jean-Sebastien Duclos, Jason Reicher, Sam King
The calm before the shadowy storm...or is it?
Previously on DuckTales 2017, Dewey found a note on the back of a portrait that happened to have the same handwriting as Della Duck’s! While following the clues on it only led to a prank involving a hat that was meant for Donald Duck, Huey takes the note and uses a pencil to mark it. Apparently, that’s a Junior Woodchuck tradition, and not just another Adam West Batman style riddle solving!
It revealed these dates, and something that looks like the tip end of a spear. It even happens to be labeled the Spear of Selene! Clearly, unlike the ending of Other Bin, they didn't want to wait a few episodes before coming back to that! Surely enough, it will be brought up again in this delightful comedy romp known as “The Last Crash of the Sunchaser!”
...yeah, something tells me this won't be pretty.
The episode begins with a trip to the country of Monacrow, and everyone has their own reasons for enjoying the vacation. The boys, Webby, and Launchpad are interested in a convention called E.X.C.E.S.S., which has many star attractions, like...
Webby: Experimental racecars?
Huey: Lasers?
Launchpad: Aeroplanes?
Subtle! Mrs. Beakley also shows up to use up one of her stacked up vacation days on one of Monacrow's beaches. Who would have guessed they would use vacation days to not write off a character, but actually get one involved in a plot?
Scrooge, in particular, is more interested in the Maltese MacGuffin, which happens to be something of massive worth. It's both a reference to the trope, and a reference to one of the most famous uses of it. He also talks about how having the nephews around has made him more energetic than he ever was in a long time! Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmmmm.
They all aboard the plane, and right from the get-go, there's problems. After Mrs. Beakley is utterly shocked about the massive amounts of safety violations on a plane usually boarded by young children, including having a pilot known for crashing planes, Scrooge tells her there's nothing to worry about. He tells Launchpad to give Mrs. Beakley a tour of the ship. While he's away, he's going to take the wheel.
Mrs. Beakley tells him he doesn't know how to fly a plane, but Scrooge McDuck says that he he's Scrooge McDuck, and that seems like a good excuse for anything. Throughout most of this episode, his ego is through the roof, but why not? Right from the beginning, he seems like this invincible hero who can do anything.
Meanwhile, in a large wooden box, the boys and Webby piece together a bunch of pieces of a photograph that Louie snuck into the car, along with a few other things. Apparently, this all came from that wacky librarian from The Great Dime Chase.
While Dewey learned his lesson from the last episode, the theme of secrets still holds true for Scrooge. They feel that if Scrooge finds out about this, he'll shut down the entire operation. Much like Dewey, a lot of this is based on assumptions; if he wanted to shred these papers, clearly this has to be something Scrooge doesn't want people to know.
They manage to piece together almost all of the photograph, except for this one large piece that happens to be right in the middle. Half the episode becomes Dewey trying to get this one piece of photograph. Unfortunately, as soon as Dewey across towards this piece, the plane starts shifting forwards and backwards.
They go out of the box, doing some inconspicuous whistling when Mrs. Beakley asks them what they are up to. Well, the boys do, Webby just sings "inconspicuous whistling". They soon see what exactly happened, as we see Scrooge getting angry at the plane. He can't blame himself, he's Scrooge McDuck.
While Scrooge McDuck has many talents, flying a plane isn't one of them. It’s not a Launchpad crash, either, but a crash that ends up putting the plane on top of a "10,000 meter speedbump". Needless to say, this episode isn't going to end with racecars, lasers, or aeroplanes that aren't the titular Sunchaser.
Scrooge tries to get the plane out of this situation, because he's Scrooge McDuck, he can solve anything! That seemed to work for most episodes, but it does not work here, as anything he tried to do only made things worse.
Of course, the Sunchaser being on top of a small spire-shaped peak means that balance is absolutely everything. Unlike most episodes, there's no real villain in this episode outside of gravity. It's a high concept episode, there's no B plot happening anywhere else. Maybe.
For example, Launchpad accidently drives a car into the large door of the Sunchaser, causing the plane to lean backwards. Eventually, the door opens, and Launchpad is hanging on. We get to see some cool moments with Scrooge, having him jump up on a box that's sliding down and being able to rescue him from falling off. It's like an action movie.
Not that Scrooge gets all the fun, Mrs. Beakley gets a lot of great moments, too. Throughout the episode, she's trying her best to keep the kids safe, and arguing with with Scrooge about how he's endangering everyone. She really wants Scrooge to admit that he can't fix this problem, but Scrooge is having none of that. Under Scrooge, nothing bad is going to happen to the children! Or, as he accidently says...
Scrooge: Nothing bad is going to happen to her!
Mrs. Beakley: ...hmm?
Scrooge Er, kids.
This is our first big hint that Scrooge is not just acting the way he is in this episode because of his sense of self-worth or for the safety of his kin. This becomes far more apparent near the end of the episode. It's clear that this isn't just about Scrooge's war against Isaac Newton.
The kids eventually have to stick to one place, as much as Dewey really needs that one piece of the photograph.
Launchpad tries to give some in-flight entertainment with a nice nod to Darkwing Duck. Hopefully we’ll get to see him, or his actor, next season. Sadly, the tape only repeats the same section of credits over and over again due to damage to the VCR caused by the crash. They eventually start to sing the portion of the theme song. The lone exception being Dewey, who just can't take it anymore.
Huey gets an idea: go to the opposite way Dewey is going, keeping balance, allowing Dewey to get the piece of the photo. Eventually, Scrooge spots Dewey with the piece of the photograph, and asks what he has. Dewey, left with no choice, decides to give Scrooge that piece, only for it to blow away to the same spot where Launchpad crashed the car from earlier.
Dewey chases after the photograph, while Scrooge chases Dewey. It's the slowest chase scene ever, due to Mrs. Beakley ordering them to be careful to not to make the title fit. That joke would have been a lot better on shows that I actually judge the titles on, I realize. Scrooge is only trying to grab Dewey to save his life.
Scrooge: I'm only trying to save your life, so come back here before I have to end it!
Obviously, Scrooge doesn't mean this, but he's getting a bit unhinged.
Eventually, the box where the secret hideout was hits the door and breaks open, revealing the hideout and all the pieces of information that were nailed to its interior. Mrs. Beakley notices the paper in Webby's skirt, which happens to be the Spear of Selene picture from earlier. Her reaction to this seems to be telling.
Mrs. Beakley: Oh, children, what have you been up to?
She doesn't do anything else to the nephews and her granddaughter about this, mostly because what will happen a few seconds later will heavily, but this line read is a clear sign that whatever secrets that Spear of Selene holds is not going to be pretty.
While the paper with the Spear on it is taken, the little piece of the photo gets blown out of the window by a gust of wind. Of course, that doesn’t stop Dewey from leaping out onto the Sunchaser, chasing after it. Scrooge utters to himself, "no, not again". Anyone who's watching this show will know this is referring to his side of the Della mystery.
Dewey's reckless endangerment even scares the other nephews and honorary niece, and they ask Dewey to forget about this and love the family he has. Dewey is having none of that, and neither does the viewer; we're not going to have another cop-out. Scrooge eventually has to ask what he can do to get Dewey to listen to him. Dewey, in no uncertain terms, decides to ask him for the truth.
Dewey: (holding up photograph) Tell me about the Spear of Selene!
We saw this scene in the trailers, and that’s definitely something people would want to see Scrooge answer. Scrooge eventually nods his head, grabs Deweys hand, and gathers everyone together for the big story.
No, there's no cop-out here. The longer answer, as I said before, is that it is not pretty. The even longer answer should be figured out by watching the episode. I would stop here, but this is the kind of ending I need to talk about. This episode was already good enough that a cop-out wouldn't have made this a below-average episode.
However, I'm sorry to inform that this is not the twist you will be watching. The twist you are about to see is extremely unpleasant. If you wish to see a film about three bug-eyed freaks that beat the stuffing out of monkeys, I'm sure there's still copies on eBay.

Alright, fine, in the immortal words of a Dark Souls soapstone message, "time for tears".
I honestly thought they were going to stretch the Della plot into the Season 2, but lo and behold, Scrooge manages to keep his word. He’s not a hypocrite, just like how he promised Webby that all she had to do to know about the number one dime was to ask, all Dewey had to do was ask. No need to keep secrets, we learned that in the last episode.
Even in this episode, it’s hinted that the Della situation is not going to be a bright and cheery one, and oh boy, oh boy. It all started before the nephews were even hatched.
She went on many different adventures across the entire world, until there just wasn't anything left. Eventually, she decided that. Donald was completely against this, because it's too dangerous. Scrooge decided the best plan was to buy the Spear of Selene, and keep it a surprise from both Donald and Della.
...that is, a big rocketship in the shape of one. Unfortunately, Della finds out about this surprise because she's that clever. Della takes the Spear, leaving a note.
Scrooge tries to get Della to abort the mission and come back home, but Della wasn't having any of it. After all, she was Della Duck! Needless to say, there's a lot of parallels between this and everything else in the episode. However, there is one big difference...
Scrooge: I couldn't keep her safe. The rocket and your mother were lost...in the empty abyss of space.
Major props to David Tennant’s performance here. I had no doubt that he would do well as Scrooge. Donald wasn't too happy when he heard about this, and they never spoke again until the fateful day the nephews met Scrooge. This is completely understandable, and I bet it's even more understandable that telling your nephews that your Uncle indirectly caused your mother's disappearance may not make them like you.
Dewey: Cool...so you're the reason why our Mom is gone.
My earlier assertion that there are no true villains in this episode except for gravity becomes not an opinion shared with any of the characters aside from Scrooge and maybe Launchpad after this story. Symbolically, the plane starts to teeter and totter as the boys accuse him of being a greedy person who didn't even try to save their mother.
Webby shares her two cents as well, and Scrooge immediately tells her to stay out of family matters, as she isn't family. It felt like she became this honorary niece a few episodes ago, so this is a stab in the heart. This earns the anger of Mrs. Beakley. The anger continues until the Sunchaser falls off the spire into a regular Launchpad-style crash. Did anyone forget about that?
On the bright side, Uncle Donald finally fixed that houseboat, and everyone else managed to survive and walked all the way back to Duckburg! Donald Duck shows off the freshly painted houseboat, which is fully repaired, and ready to go back to the Marina. The boys tell their not-a-rich-mother-killer uncle about what happened, and all Donald can say is, "oh."
While they are bummed out, the nephews are glad that they don’t have to live with that money-grubbing tyrant that caused their mother to get lost in space due to his greediness. Actually, that’s not bright at all. There's nothing but tears at this point.
As Scrooge is sitting in his chair, everyone leaves the Manor, even Duckworth. I wouldn't know if it's even possible for a ghost to leave the mansion he's haunting, and that never comes up again in the next episode as far as I can tell. We see another flashback, and it's even more heartbreaking than the first.
Unbeknownst to everyone else, he did try to use his riches to find Della. The Vulture Capitalists have to forcibly restrain him from wasting so much money to reverse his biggest mistake. Well, it’s also her biggest mistake, but nobody seems to blame Della for abandoning her kids before they even hatched. There's some moral ambiguity here, and whether they'll address that is up in the air.
We even see the money bin get smaller and smaller. I actually didn’t even notice that, even in this cartoon’s modern day, he never managed to get it back to the heights it was generally shown to be in previous iterations of the Scrooge McDuck mythos.
Actually, speaking of “the beginning”, this shot at the very end may take that way further than I thought at first.
This is a recreation of Scrooge’s very first appearance in the original comics, back when he wasn’t too far off from his namesake. It's a neat touch; it also references him before he met Donald, and this would be a horrifying bookend. Thankfully, there's another episode.
I was thinking that this episode was going to be the calm before the shadowy storm, but it turns out that the episode before was the calm before the storm. But after a storm, there tends to be a rainbow, and anyone can expect that the next episode would be that rainbow. But...how? I just couldn't wait to find out, and that's something an episode should be proud of.
How does it stack up?
I never thought I would spend any percentage of my day crying over Disney ducks, but here we are. It’s an action-packed thrill ride and a heartbreaker in all of the best ways.
This is the best episode of the series so far, and definitely something I want to see the conclusion to. We might not see if Della is truly gone or not, but maybe the “get the kids back together” plot. Oh, and that Lena plot, too. I guess that’s important. As much as this image is very unfitting for this episode...
Next, prepare to be drafted for the finale of DuckTales Season 1.

That can suck it!
