I’m watching Kung Fu Panda so obviously I’m getting emotional.

Tai Lung is such a wonderfully crafted villain thats so sympathetic be even so you can’t excuse everything that he’s done.

The animation is beautiful and so subtle and detailed especially in the scene when Shifu says that he’s sorry, that whole fight scene between Tai Lung and Shifu is amazing actually.

When I was younger I never really noticed it but Tigress gives us an explanation for almost her ENTIRE CHARACTER in one sentence when she’s telling Po about the history of Tai Lung, “Shifu loved Tai Lung like he’d never loved anyone before… or since.” And it never felt that heavy to me because little 6 year old me was always just like “haha panda make silly sound and face!!” right after.

Po’s self doubt and imposter syndrome is also something that’s more obvious to me now that I’m older and also so much more relatable. There’s something about him asking Shifu “how? How?” Over and over only being met with Shifu’s silence until finally he admits he doesn’t know how to turn him into the dragon warrior.

And then moments later Tigress flinging herself off the Jade Palace is just plain awesome.

Also, I’m a huge sucker for fight choreography and all three of the Kung Fu Panda movies have such awesome fight scenes. Also each character has a distinct way of fighting based on their size and species which is just such cool attention to detail.

I know everyone and their mother had talked about or at least knows how great these movies are but I need to put my two cents into everything so here it is.

like.. can you think of the symbol or trope or metaphor of how aromanticism can be expressed? im an artist who has the opposite of artblock rn so i think of such questions a lot sometimes :D i can think of anatomically gorey correct heart or the lack of attraction/"pull" like an anchor

before i say anything else i would like to say the idea of aromanticism as an anatomically correct heart is so fucking sick and i love this.

to me the first thing i thought of was... aromanticism as seeing the world through a slightly different color palette? almost like looking at things from behind a pane of vaguely tinted glass. you can see things happening, but they don't appeal to you the same way they do to everyone else. you can imitate it but it sort of feels like you're miming.

Right, so, just a couple of moments ago I learned that season 2 of Murder Drones is basically confirmed, this most likely means that now I'll probably have to quickly give away my personal takes on what I want the future of the soviet drone to be.

I actually wanted to take a break from Doll, but I only say that because all the future content that I've already planned out for her is extremely massive, plus I'm afraid of what might happen the next time an episode releases and she's on screen, so for now I'll just stick to my plans and you'll infer my take on the whole situation from what I write.

I've been mostly lazing off on the Lord Shen analysis; normally, I think it would have been released by now, but after "The insane, untapped potential of Rebecca from Murder Drones" I've been really burned out in the last couple of days, that analysis took forever to finish because I really wanted to give Rebecca fans the tribute they were never going to get, but the problem was that I'm not really a Rebecca fan, so I was basically putting myself under torture to finish that thing. It didn't even perform all that well, which I kind of expected considering who the college degree-worthy essay was about, but it still hurt a lot to have all of that blood and sweat go unrecognised.

Still all my fault to be honest.

Don't worry though, I won't get burned out, I promise. An analysis of Lord Shen is coming out tomorrow, then, after that, I'll probably take a break to not get myself overwhelmed.

The last thing I want to do is rush out the villainess top 10. I did the first one mostly for fun, but I'll admit that it was kinda lacking from a readers perspective when it came down to certain aspects such as the reasons for why one entry was above the other and why I enjoyed one big bad more.

For that, I'll try to go for a more methodical approach when it comes to breaking down each individual entry, and I'll make sure to tweak the text before publishing it.

guys stop being dramatic kung fu panda 4 was not that horrible 😆 in my opinion it's about on par with 3. not as good as 1 or 2 but can we really expect lightning to strike thrice?

i hate the unnecessary insertion of awkwafina into animated films as much as the next person but frankly i found her character pretty likeable; the worst thing about zhen is she's a bit of a stereotype, but she's kind of charming. i won't mind if she becomes the dragon warrior in a new trilogy, especially since she has a lot of room to grow as a character. the chameleon was no tai lung or lord shen but she was a decent villain. she had personality but i would've like if she was scarier or more of a threat.

but yeah for the love of god please bring back the furious five. i miss them :-(

negative thoughts: i'm not gonna sugarcoat it. a lot of what tai lung was saying was very He Would Not Fucking Say That. and probably worst of all this film was missing a really good moment of emotional catharsis like the previous films.

so yeah it's not terrible and it's even good at a lot of times but overall it's mediocre compared to 1 and 2 and i think that's what makes it bad. i think we're all just disappointed because we know this franchise has the potential to be much better but it's just not hitting the mark anymore. i'd rather have this kfp 4 than no kfp 4, but i can see why people are saying this film feels like an injustice to the series. all we can hope for is if there's more in the future, that the dreamworks team doesn't get stuck 'settling' with the quality of kfp 3 and 4 when we already know they're capable of an installment like kfp 2.
