Being in Aroace spectrum culture is being a fic writer and writing romantic and s*x scenes that lean more towards describing platonic relationships. And also sometimes write pwp works and get angry that readers prefer to read them, and not really good and important for you gen works
(quick note: please do not censor [ie, using asterisks] words in submissions. leave them as they are so that others may read them with screen readers, or filter them as they so choose.)
#aro culture is#aro#aromantic#actually aro#actually aromantic#ask#mod axel#sex ment cw#aroace culture#the frustration is understandable#culturally a lot of folks definitely value romance and sex quite a bit#but if it helps at all - it might be worth reminding yourself that fanfic culture is inherently tied to queer experiences and specifically#mlm content - which often means that people read fanfic with the intent to *find* mlm content#there is a devaluing of gen fic by some cultures in some fandoms - i absolutely will not deny that.#but: there is also a disproportionate amount of readers that are seeking ship fic because that is what fanfic is associated with.#they may not intentionally avoid gen fic - but they may be looking for a specific ship that they feel represented by or in some way seen by#and filter out gen fic as a byproduct of searching for that ship#it may or may not help to tell yourself this. but often avoidance of gen fic is not malicious so much as incidental#and a lot of folks who love gen fic will also be seeking out your works and be excited to find any content at all#given the frequent lack of it#your work is valued by those who find it. i promise.
