Roselin Belanger - Scholasticate drop-out, back-alley healer, and alchemist. Formerly of Ishgard, by way of Gridania, though the climate of Ul'dah seems to agree with him more. Will heal anyone free of charge, no questions asked; while his colleagues think him a soft-hearted idealist, it's a cross he's willing to bear.

hello! this is very hopeful thinking, but i'd rather give it a try than not. i used to use twitter several years ago, and was mutuals with quite a few fellow elezen players. the decline of twitter forced people to move to other places, and it's been two-ish years since i withdrew from my profile. i stayed off social media for awhile, but i'm checking out tumblr again, which happens to be a completely different platform from all of those connections. attached are the two elezen of mine i posted about the most, and are old photos that were posted on the account back then. if you recognise them, please do comment, send me a message, or follow me. despite my choice to stop posting, losing all of my old final fantasy mutuals, friends, and people i had played with wasn't entirely something i'd planned. i also enjoyed attending elezen art parties and all-elezen content runs. i'd be so happy if i could get in touch with anyone again.

Finding Warmth
Tumblr media
Life's breath in the candlenight Lost hearts in the dead of night It's a long way down To the place they found
Sometimes one can be caught in a storm along the road and it becomes important to seek shelter, a haven from the elements. Even though the world is cold to you, there is always a fire that sometimes you have to make yourself.

She might look 'smart' but don't let those glasses and her Painfully Sharlayan Schooling fool you, this Duskwight is a true airhead!
This is another oen of my WoLs/OCs, using an old name/already level 90 alt slot, but a new face! Isn't she GORGEOUS!? The graphics update did so much good to the default fem Elezen sculpts I swear.

anyways my friends activated my conlang brain and I've made smth insane as usual
Tumblr media
red is influences, blue is Elezen-family languages, green is like a mix bc I see the Alliance cities as having a trade language (that critically is limited to them).
I see Duskwight as a separate language from Black Shroud Elezen (but sharing a lot - easy enough to learn for those speakers). Coerthan and all its derivatives are a whole different language under the Elezen umbrella and isn't mutually intelligible with BSE. Because they split so early, they probably don't share much more than root words and etymologies; within the same family so not difficult to learn for other speakers of Elezen languages, but very distinctly different.
(also I'm not listing them but the branches extend to include other diaspora Elezen languages)
#saint.txt#long post#ishgardposting#I'm sorry this is so hard to see lmfao I told you people you would regret activating the unhinged part of my brain#anyways additional notes:#Duskwight is to Old Elezen what Icelandic is to Old Norse; It's the closest language to Old Elezen.#Old Ishgardian was probably heavily influenced by Dravanian but the church post-Ratatoskr probably tried to purge a lot of it.#Ysayle and the heretic faction probably use Dravanian-derived words on purpose and may have restored a lot of the old words as slang#and as shibboleths.#Liturgical Ishgardian as you'd expect is spoken in churches and by clergy. It's their version of liturgical Latin.#Proto-Ishgardian *probably* wasn't using Old Hyur as a prestige language so its influence was probably limited#(it probably wasn't like English with French)#Alliance Trade Standard is a prestige language in Ishgard for nobility but proficiency varies. Most Ishgardians prob. don't speak it well.#imo Ishgardian and Duskwight both use different alphabets derived from the Old Elezen ones#w/ BSE either adopting the ATS one or having two scripts (the new ATS and the old Elezen one). Probably dialect-dependent.#Duskwight derived theirs from Golmorran and Ishgard from Old/Liturgical Ishgardian bc that's what the Enchiridion is written in.#the friend I'm building this with posits that BSE uses a lot of obtuse speech (verlan basically) for cultural reasons re: elementals.#Ishgardian forms dialects like crazy bc of the geography but there's a lot more interplay and movement of speech around than#you'd think bc of the movement of soldiers from different High Houses and places around the Holy See constantly#High Houses each have their own specific slang and jargon and you can get surprisingly specific placing where in Coerthas someone is from#and what High House he works for based on his accent and what military slang he uses.#the Coerthas-Shroud pidgin/creole refers to the zone between North Shroud and Coerthas where the two languages intersect for trade reasons#and mix together.#BSE mixes with a LOT (padjali / duskwight / coerthan in the north / thanalan languages in the south /#moon mi'qote languages / hyur in general) depending on region and thus has a *really* broad array of variation.#City Ishgardian as a dialect is facing huge change atm bc of the massive influx of Coerthan refugees.#bc of the Calamity and the Horde a lot of local Coerthan dialects went extinct very quickly.

On asylum in Ishgard.
Surrounded by all these people, I feel alone. And weightless, not weightless as in free, weightless as in... suspended. When I close my eyes, I'm still running in that tunnel out of Ul'dah, and everyone's behind me, and if I could just turn back—
It's not like the first few nights anymore, though. My self-pity has transformed into a sort of nihilistic glee. Little things make me laugh, and I can't find the reserves in me to feel any of the weight I know I'm carrying. Everything seems so tiny. Blurry. Far away. Whatever. Nobody's reading this. I don't need an artful metaphor.
Ishgard is cold and grey and everybody looks at me like I'm covered in blood, but hells, the shopping is great. Tataru and I came back to House Fortemps with our weight in clothes.
I know Alphinaud still blames himself, but he's just a boy. He should have never taken this all on. I'm the one who kept letting myself be distracted— I never told him of Riol's suspicions.
Too late now!
The dragonling told me I would find nothing but death here. It isn't scary anymore. It's a relief, having an excuse not to form attachments. Not knowing is so much worse.
If you're ever in Ishgard, wear your most outlandish outfit, and go to the markets. Nobody will throw you in irons there; they still want your business, but the faces they make defy current anatomical knowledge. It's fantastic.
A little easier to be alienated when you alienate them right back.
(Note to self, separate from the above journaling, since you won't trouble Haurchefant for more parchment: learn how to hold a damned sword. Can't be a healer if there's no one to heal. Pick up coffee next time you're out.)
