the gods swore an oath to the embodiments of time and space , guë and rëwu, at the end of the fifth age . they would obey the laws set down , and follow them faithfully , to preserve what was left of creation after the war of the gods . at the end of every age , the blood god lakoghi must blow the chekai horn , die , and be reborn . from her death the covenant is renewed , and the world of rë̃wu is kept in perfect balance .

one hundred and fifty years have passed since the eighth age was supposed to have begun . no one knows where lakoghi went . worse , no one even notices she's gone .

tomsa is a demi-god perfectly content with building a legend for himself through architecture in his small island town . he has no need to seek out glory when he's already finding it helping people withstand the worsening storms at home . but his father , the spider god of fate keschem , returns to his family bearing a quest : seek out lakoghi , make her blow the horn , and renew the oath - before guë and rëwu take back their half of the deal , and the world crumbles into chaos and destruction once more .

no one has seen lakoghi in over a hundred years , and it's nigh impossible for a mortal to find a god that doesn't want to be found . but what other choice does tomsa have , other than holding on to his father's crossbow and taking his first step off the island ?

if he is successful , life will carry on as it always has . he'll never have to worry about the fate of his soul again . if he fails, rë̃wu ends here .
