Antagonist: Thea

Thea is a half elf with brown hair and hazel eyes. Notably she never wears anything that exposes her midriff or really anything that exposes much of her chest either. This is different than many other Nidtrins who show as much skin as possible.

Her goal is to bring Nidtrix back onto this plane, which will allow the goddess enough power to theoretically fix what is wrong with this planet. The MCs can guess that this is her goal because it is the stated goal of many Nidtrins.

Thea's family is long dead by now and she has no children of her own. She does have a husband, which is actually rare in Nidtrin culture. She and Cael are in this together, believing that Nidtrix belongs on the planet and will fulfill her duty to fix it.

She has been technically alive for thousands of years. Her childhood happened during the Age of Intervention, which is very much over. But she was born into war and still feels she is fighting it.

Together, Thea and Cael technically command a battalion of people (Nidtrins) loyal to them. Thea does things the old way (as in, she doesn't think highly of Nidtrin brainwashing practices) and keeps people who think similar to her close.

Thea wants people to keep their autonomy and make their own decisions, hence she's generally against the brainwashing shtick and wants to promote Nidtrix by what she can do once she's back on the plane. Thea also doesn't want innocents to be harmed.

She does her very best to work within the law. When it comes to the laws of magic and religion, she has to lest she lose her power. As for governmental laws, she does her best to work within it. Until she's completely circumnavigating the laws, that is.

She doesn't monologue, but she isn't particularly quiet about her opinions either. She always feels like she must explain herself and get the last word in too if that is possible.

Thea can be impulsive amidst her long-term plans. She has been playing the long game for a long time and knows how to be patient. But when she starts getting impulsive in ways she shouldn't, her husband reminds her of their ultimate goals.

Thea is generally an open book. She doesn't really feel like she has secrets. She may omit information if she deems it unnecessary to the conversation, but that is more of a power move than a "let's keep secrets" move.

She would be really disappointed to find out that someone lied to her. She would ask why they lied and, depending on the reason, may forgive them, or may decide to never trust them again. Which means a loss of perks.

Thea considers herself an optimist. She plays the long game and accepts that there will be minor and temporary setbacks.

Thea has great control over her emotions. She can be a complete ball of iron nerves and not show any emotion, including anger. It comes with being an elf, thousands of years old.

She's an extrovert, which means she just likes being out in the open and center stage sometimes. It's a factor in her plans, but not a huge one.

She'll celebrate holidays. She's not really a grump or a grinch. She likes parties and holidays usually come with parties.

Thea's likes animals! Not that she keeps pets because she is constantly on the move. But she will stop to pet cats, dogs, and the like.

She likes baths and also playing strategy games like chess with her husband or Royal Will (which is a RTS board game whose best comps are actually MTG and Warhammer.) She knows that taking care of her mental health is important!

She is 100% self-conscious about her scars and wears clothes to cover them up. Her entire midsection is a knot of scars due to an injury from the war 3000 years ago.

Given the injury from the war, Thea has a ton of GI issues. She literally cannot eat a large meal. She has to eat smaller meals more regularly. She also deals with chronic pain that her passive theramancy can only do so much about.

As a mage, she will generally use magic as a weapon. But if she must pick a physical weapon, she's very excellent in the mainhand shortsword and offhand dagger. Because she's quick and can be brutal.

She's killed. She's ordered people to be killed. It's all part of the plan.

Thea is afraid of dying. But not just dying, disappearing. She has been alive for thousands of years and before that, she's been reincarnating with memories intact. She doesn't want to stop existing. As of yet, she has not faced this fear.

She wants to make amends to an old friend, who is holding a grudge until the end of time if she must. Thea's friend has asked her to denounce Nidtrix before she even considers forgiveness.

After a while, Thea begins to doubt that the way the Nidtrins are going about doing things is actually what is best for the planet. She is ashamed that her "little sisters" have missed the point of the assignment. She does not change her ways however.

She really does believe that she is working for the greater good and that if they can just *get* Nidtrix to the plane, all will be well.

Unrelated to her goals and everything else, Thea plays piano.

I've legit done my best to make Thea and Cael both as likeable as possible. And if not likeable, than at least understandable. They have reasons for their actions.

I love that she's not wholly evil. She has layers. She has regrets. She really thinks she is doing what is right.

Species of Starjourn: Theramoa

A flightless avian species that come from Theram, a moon orbiting Oa, a barren superplanet. Oa once hosted complex life of its own but it experienced an extinction event when an asteroid collided with it thousands of years ago. The Theramoa believe that Oa was their original homeworld and fleeing to Theram is what saved their species from a similar extinction event and name themselves in honor of it alongside their homeworld. This escape is considered to have been so desperate that it left their ancestors with no recourse but to start over in “primitive” conditions, the truth of their civilization as well as their technological advancement lost to time.

Theram is a heavily forested world roughly analogous to temperate rainforests and jungles on Earth. Some of the oldest trees on Theram are so tall their roots feed off geothermal energy while their hardy, expansive canopies soak up solar energy from low orbit. It is in these trees that the Theramoa civilization emerged, with each one large enough to sustain a large number and range of flora and fauna.

Unlike Lecron, a similarly forested world dominated by large trees, Theram’s biodiversity was much vaster to begin with (the Lecronians destroyed theirs) and does not favor the development of megafauna so much as a huge variety of smaller fauna more analogous to the range found on Earth since humans evolved.

The Theramoa evolved from a flightless species, thought to orginate on Oa, but males have larger and thicker feathers on their forearms which can be extended, allowing them to glide as part of their mating performance, an important ritual. Males outnumber females by a significant margin but in spite of this, violence has never been a part of Theramoa reproduction. Females can lay clutches of eggs and recover quite quickly, allowing them to choose multiple mates in each cycle. Besides the ability to carry young, male and female Theramoa are visibly indistinguishable to non-Theramoa except for the large arm feathers (which females can have surgically added anyway, should they choose to). Their voices are the one easy way to tell for non-Theramoa, with female voices higher and more “musical” due to their mating behavior, which is to attract mates using song and provide, essentially, the background music for the male "mating dance".

Theramoa families are effectively polygamous clans where the husbands work together for the promotion of their family’s well-being. Indeed, Theramoa males often “team up” for especially elaborate mating dances and support each others’ candidacy for pairing with the same female. Mating cycles are extremely festive occasions for the Theramoa, who are about as sex positive as any known species and extremely open about it. Taboos about romance, coupling, sex, and numbers of partners seem hilariously quaint to them though their history has incidences of variation in the broad details of their approach.

Theramoa are soft theocrats who believe that their ancestors’ spirits live on among them and must be honored for their great sacrifices, including the original Great Ancestors who fled Oa. There is some evidence, including artifacts and records, that support various ideas about Oa civilization, but there are also competing theories about what these ancestors were really like. Theramoa cultures tend to have their biggest distinctions in what is believed about the ancestors and what specific codes of behavior should be emphasized, but all agree that the spirits have their role in Theramoa affairs and must be recognized. This means their politics are heavily influenced by their religious beliefs and religious officials often wield significant power and prestige.

Theramoa scientists believe the similarities between their species and Terran birds or dinosaurs are of note. Other reptilian and avian species occasionally come up on other worlds and are of similar interest, but none as close as those found on Earth. The Theramoa occasionally dispatch clerics, researchers, and scholars to investigate theories of parallel evolution or the possibility that the Great Ancestors of Oa may have visited or even colonized Earth, among other worlds, in the distant past. If so, they may have had a spacefaring empire far vaster than their own solar system. Many Theramoa believe it is their destiny, and the wish of their ancestor spirits, that they re-establish a spacefaring civilization. Some use this “imperial past” theory as an excuse for militant or expansionist ideologies that occasionally take root and influence broader Theramoa policy.

The Theramoa were one of the earliest members of ALTO and were instrumental in establishing relations with the Lecronians and the Mayentians, two civilizations with whom they share some commonalities.

Fun Fact: these folks are a combination of Starbound's Avians and Howard the Duck.

What are your thoughts of Indy possibly having that Theramal challenge bc they want to appeal to a richer audience so they can possibly get more money/sponsors for the series? I want to know the business side of why they decided to drop Texas for this. It was mentioned that damage in that first heat incident exceeded the prize pool, so how else are teams incentivized to be more competitive if Indy decides to do this again?

So I actually don’t think it was IndyCar’s desire to not go to Texas this season. From my understanding, IndyCar wanted to run it in late March/early April BUT NASCAR will be there in April and Texas told IndyCar no. Like I would be shocked if IndyCar leaves Texas off next season. But IndyCar knew that one of fans’ biggest complaints was the gap between the first and second race so they wanted to put *something* in between which like I get but I’m begging somebody in IndyCar learn how to frame things better because they did an awful job. They should’ve framed it as a testing weekend imo

I have heard that behind the scenes, team owners are MAD so like I think IndyCar is gonna have to pony up a bigger purse if they want teams to go back to thermal for an “all star race”.

I would imagine that any outbreak would be less bad in areas where there were common theramancers. I also know that diseases work a bit differently when there are people with the equivalent of healing factors.

So, for example, a strain of the flu mutated so that it only affects theramancers. It makes theramancy stop completely and is 70% fatal because it can only be treated with alchemy. There is now a vaccine with boosters every five years but that's a recent development.
