December 2022/1 Yes, the objective form is the most subjective in matter.  Man is least himself when he talks in his own person.  Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth. Oscar Wilde, The Critic as Artist, 1891

Supreme X Jean Paul Gaultier
Supreme has just taken to Instagram to reveal that there’s a Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration on its way. The iconic French designer is known for his avant-garde approach towards clothing design, bending gender norms in the fashion industry early on, all while teetering on a fine line of art and fashion. A new image has emerged from the Supreme x Jean Paul Gaultier collection. Once again shot by Collier Schorr, the photograph dons the cover for London bi-annual magazine Arena HOMME+. The shot features a reveal of new items for the collaborative collection — a grey bomber jacket with a metallic dual-branded embellishment, a floral-esque graphic hoodie, and a pair of metallic sunglasses. No further imagery is available.

Supreme X Gaultier. The Cassette Played Poptones… Hindsight Does Me No Good… I Can't Forget The Impression You Made! #SupremeXGaultier #GaultierSupreme #Supreme #JeanPaulGaultier #Gaultier #ArenaHommePlus #AHPlus51 #ThePublicImage

Catching his fair share of criticism and controversy throughout his career, it is only fitting that Jean Paul Gaultier was the next luxe name that Supreme chose to work with after Louis Vuitton. From the teaser image we can see a Pop-Art inspired jacket and pant combo in bold yellow with an all-over print graphic, but what’s sure to get fans excited is the checked blue, red and black mohair coat. Finishing off the look in the teaser image is a co-branded Gaultier/Supreme belt buckle done in JPG’s signature typeface.
Stay tuned as we’ll be updating you on the Supreme x Jean Paul Gaultier collaboration as more details and imagery arrive. The collection is expecting to hit Supreme stores and online on April 11.

...it is an operation of maximal abstraction of the individual, of reduction of vital activity to aesthetic control of his own image, of reabsorption of being into appearance. It’s a sort of  compression to the surface of the density of existence, but, contrarily to the romantic interpretation of dandyism, once the operation has been carried out, there will be nothing left beyond the surface: the simulacrum will be the only truth.
Gilda Piersanti, Introduction, J-A. Barbey d’Aurevilly, George Brummel e il Dandismo, 1994

August 2022/9
Even if each woman dresses in conformity with her status, a game is still being played: artifice, like art, belongs to the realm of the imaginary. It is not only that girdle, brassiere, hair-dye, make-up disguise body and face; but that the least sophisticated of women, once she is dressed, does not present herself to observation; she is, like the picture or the statue, or the actor on the stage, an agent through whom is suggested someone not there - that is, the character she represents, but is not.
It is this identification with something unreal, fixed, perfect as the hero of a novel, as a portrait or a bust, that gratifies her; she strives to identify herself with this figure and thus to seem to herself to be stabilised, justified in her splendour.
Simone de Beauvoir, The Second Sex, 1947
