@where-the-jumblies-live @theproturkey @oh-queer @wowihatethisblog @inekojiru I LOOOVE YOU GUYSS SO DO MUCH
I feel like spreading positivity so.
If you get tagged here, here's a few messages from the person who tagged you:
You are one of the coolest people I know, if not THE coolest ever. I may not have known you for long, but it feels like my whole life, and I don't know what I would do without you. If I haven't met you my life would be fundamentally different. You may have changed, but I've changed with you, and I think we've both grown a lot, and for the better.
I love seeing you create stuff! Be it art, writing, headcannons, or something you DIY-ed, I know that any time you make something it's bound to be good. Every project you start is always very exciting, even if you don't finish it! Watching you create is always very fun.
I know you have bad days, we all do. Don't hesitate to talk to me if you need to. I'm always here, I'll always listen, and I'll always do my best to try to understand and help. Know that you'll always be loved and appreciated!
Here's to our friendship growing even more in 2023!
(ps. don't feel pressured to tag anyone back! This is just to let you know that you're loved and appreciated. And if you were planning on tagging someone, but see that they've already been tagged, don't worry! This will be a message from you to them. Tag them!)

Hello, I don't have a cover for my terrarium (its a 50? gallon tank) and I was wondering what you sugggest for a cover, I'm not overly worried about moisture, but more so about light (should I also get a sun lamp thats a weak wattage) and air
I don’t think air is going to be much of a problem if you only keep a few snails, even if you put a plastic lid with air holes in it, but of course air flow will help prevent fungus/mold from overgrowing things. That may or may not be desirable depending on whether the species of snail/slug you keep enjoys fungi and molds.
Your biggest concerns in a large tank would be: finding and destroying eggs in time before you have 300 tiny snails all over the place, which happens very quickly.
Once you have these tiny ones (aka “buttons”), they can squeeze through tiny openings, and will go (and perish) everywhere. So you need to think about making your cover button-impermeable. I ended up hot-gluing a piece of weed-block (aka landscape fabric, or weed barrier) to the inside of the mesh lid that came with the tank. It is air-permeable, but the holes are small enough that the buttons and even young hatchling slugs couldn’t make it through.
Since you don’t have a cover, maybe you could use a plastic cover from a storage bin that’s large enough, or also, make a sort of “shower cap” for the terrarium, with an elastic to keep it on tight. Snails will get into the creases and folds though, so maybe not the best idea.
If you have a hot glue gun, you can use some styrofoam to glue a lid that fits tightly around the top of the tank, leaving some/all of the middle open and attaching some weed block there for airflow.
I was unable to find anything about UV needs of land snails, and I’m sure it varies per species, depending on habitat. If you are keeping snails that are known to be out and about in the sun, they may benefit from an hour or so of full-spectrum UV.
I hope this helps - feel free to follow up with more questions!

Thank you very much!! I have a couple more questions.... I’ve read multiple things about getting cuddle bones do you know what it aids in for a snails diet? I’m not sure if I’m able to get one asap but in the next two weeks I could. Also for a large tank do you think it would be okay if I just had a very small lair of soil? Currently i feel like what I have is to much and he’ll get lost in the sauce.
Cuttle bone can be purchased at any pet store, they sell them for birds, so you may be able to find one locally. Thing with them is... as the pollution levels in the oceans rise, heavy metals and other toxic substances accumulate in the bodies of ocean dwellers, such as cuttlefish. My vet (who is specialized in birds and exotics) wasn’t endorsing cuttlebone as a source of calcium anymore, due to that.
I’ve been using it myself, but once I run out, I won’t buy any more.
Egg shells are a good source of calcium. You can crush them and mix them in with the substrate, or leave larger chunks around. They are slightly more difficult for the snails to rasp, so you can also use a mortar and pestle to pulverize it and sprinkle it on the food you give to your snails.
Substrate: Snails like to dig, they are amazing at that. That’s a natural behavior that snails out in the wild engage in a lot. The substrate should be deep enough for them to completely disappear in. That has obvious drawbacks of not seeing your pet as often, and making eggs more difficult to find. But it’s a part of a snail’s natural environment.
On a flip side, you can (and I have done so for sick/quarantined snails) just lay a couple layers of wet paper towel on the bottom of the tank. The snail will eat some paper, but they’re going to be fine, just don’t freak out when you see white poop :) The snails don’t seem to fare any worse in that environment - as long as you allow them to keep and re-ingest some of their poop to maintain digestive flora, they’ll thrive, for a while at least.
Lack of deep substrate will also prevent snails from laying eggs. I haven’t seen a snail lay eggs in my ICU/QT setup. I don’t have any medical information on what happens if a snail’s environment doesn’t allow them to lay eggs -- whether they just don’t develop eggs, or retain them; and whether this has a negative impact on their health.

(sorry to bombard you with questions) what would you advise as a water dish? If one at all? I assume they would need one and have put a lil makeshift one out but not sure if it's good? Should I just send u a pic of my tank setup and see if it's good? I want the best life for these dudes but info is so limited
A slice of cucumber or lettuce and a gentle misting is all they need to keep hydrated! Don’t offer them water in a dish, though, they may drown.

Oh and I am giving them cucumbers and egg shells to munch on, I didn't see any enjoyment from the leaves (also do you know their eating habits like how often n stuff)
Hey there, sorry for a late reply. Here is a long post with all the foods that you can offer your little snails.

So I got sum snails from the wild because I couldn't find a place that sold land snails and they are tiny like the button ones. I can't tell if their eating I think they are but not sure... Any advice?
Just sit them on some food, and you will see!
Try a slice of carrot (organic, peeled), or a slice of zucchini. You will see them nodding their little heads as they rasp away at the food.
Also -- if you see little poop squiggles on the walls of the tank, you can be sure that they’re eating. Snails have very inefficient digestive tracts, so their poop is pretty much the color of the food they eat! Orange from carrots, or green from leafy vegetables.

to the last person- i used a rust-resistant metal screen and bent it to fit the top of my tank & used duct tape to make a "hinge" on the tank. i noticed the increased air flow was drying out too quickly so i covered some of the mesh with plastic wrap and that made the moisture level better. my snails really seem to enjoy crawling on the mesh and their body kind of squishes up through the holes, its adorable. plus the holes in the mesh are small enough that the babies cant get through.
