Nature, in the broadest sense, is thephysicalworld oruniverse. "Nature" can refer to thephenomenaof the physical world, and also to life in general. The study of nature is a large, if not the only, part ofscience. Although humans are part of nature, human activity is often understood as a separate category from other natural phenomena.[1]

The wordnatureis borrowed from theOld Frenchnatureand is derived from theLatinwordnatura, or "essential qualities, innate disposition", and in ancient times, literally meant "birth".[2]In ancient philosophy,naturais mostly used as the Latin translation of the Greek wordphysis(φύσις), which originally related to the intrinsic characteristics of plants, animals, and other features of the world to develop of their own accord.[3][4]The concept of nature as a whole, the physicaluniverse, is one of several expansions of the original notion;[1]it began with certain core applications of the word φύσις bypre-Socraticphilosophers (though this word had a dynamic dimension then, especially forHeraclitus), and has steadily gained currency ever since.

During the advent of modernscientific methodin the last several centuries, nature became the passive reality, organized and moved by divine laws.[5][6]With theIndustrial revolution, nature increasingly became seen as the part of reality deprived from intentional intervention: it was hence considered as sacred by some traditions (Rousseau, Americantranscendentalism) or a mere decorum fordivine providenceor human history (Hegel,Marx). However, avitalistvision of nature, closer to the presocratic one, got reborn at the same time, especially afterCharles Darwin.[1]

Within the various uses of the word today, "nature" often refers togeologyandwildlife. Nature can refer to the general realm of living plants and animals, and in some cases to the processes associated with inanimate objects—the way that particular types of things exist and change of their own accord, such as the weather and geology of theEarth. It is often taken to mean the "natural environment" orwilderness—wild animals, rocks, forest, and in general those things that have not been substantially altered by human intervention, or which persist despite human intervention. For example, manufactured objects and human interaction generally are not considered part of nature, unless qualified as, for example, "human nature" or "the whole of nature". This more traditional concept of natural things that can still be found today implies a distinction between the natural and the artificial, with the artificial being understood as that which has been brought into being by a humanconsciousnessor a humanmind. Depending on the particular context, the term "natural" might also be distinguished from theunnaturalor thesupernatural.[1]

As if NIN need anymore reason to show how they can do whatever they want and make it successful, they announce a tour (in 2018) that you can only buy tickets for at the box office of the venue. IN 2018. Literally thousands of people stood in line and acted like it was the late 90′s/early 2000′s, when we used to go to places like Wherehouse Music because they were one of the few stores around that had a Ticketmaster system. I fully support this way of doing things, and wish that more artists would follow suit. (I also hope they make people lock their phones up before getting in the venue. Not kidding).

And to top it off, they put tickets in an awesome envelope that any fan that’s a sucker for packaging (me) will love. And don’t forget the listening stations with two new songs from the upcoming EP.  Fuck, Trent Reznor is still so damn cool.

*Side note: Pictures aren’t mine. I didn’t get to do this. But I will be seeing them next month in Vegas.

I'm considering walking out my front door to a movie theater and there speaking with a human in a little glass booth about the time and cost of a movie. I'll hand her money from my wallet. She may look familiar if she lives nearby. Perhaps I've seen her at the coffee shop. She'll hand me a small piece of paper with a smile (or blank stare), and perhaps say to me, "enjoy your movie". I'll then be responsible for handing the paper ticket to a guy at the door. With his bare hands he'll tear the ticket in half and hand me a half. I'll tuck the small piece of paper in my pocket and later stash it in a small cardboard box at home with all the other movie tickets with faded titles from over the years. I'll smell popcorn as I walk past mostly smiling people buying and selling snacks behind a counter and then I'll enter a large room specially designed for hundreds of strangers to watch a movie, sitting side by side in long rows. Talking and visiting with them before the film is acceptable. So is laughing and clapping during the film, but it's forbidden to talk with the rest of humanity outside the theater during this time. The movie will be projected with very bright light bulbs onto a huge metallic screen. There's no way for me to start it or stop it or rewind it. If I go to the restroom, I miss that part.
