Well, I loved The Rebound from beginning to... about 15 minutes before the end. The best I can say about the very ending is that it leaves the door wide open for fic. Fortunately that's my favorite thing to do in fandom, so to the keyboard!

My Crazy Utena Theories #4

That really was Ruka's sword. And someone did polish it while he was hospitalised. Of course, it wasn't Shiori.

Shiori went to Ruka's clearly labelled locker. The sword is identical to the one she draws from his chest for the duel.

Obviously, Ruka was on to all Shiori's bs from the start. He said that just to catch her in a lie later on. I mean, she clearly didn't know him before. She looked surprised to see Juri talking to him and showing him such respect, when Juri's usually just aloof and intimidating. Shiori is jealous of someone else being close to Juri, yet also intrigued by a boy who is so much like Juri. She intends to take Ruka for herself due to her jealousy of anyone else getting Juri's attention, as well as her urge to make Juri jealous, in kind. But, being the bi disaster that she is, Shiori falls for Ruka's charm, playing into his hand. Though I do think he eventually realised Shiori's true feelings for Juri and wanted her to admit it. He was upset that she kept claiming he was the only person she ever loved. Ruka knows he only has a few days and will step over anyone to achieve his goal, yet his goal is truly selfless. He only wants Juri's happiness, whether with Shiori or free of her.

Delving a little deeper, I think we can infer from the flashbacks and inner dialogue that while Shiori was at her other school with her previous beau/boy who liked Juri/purse, Juri progressed in fencing at Ohtori, and Ruka became her sempai and confidant. The two were very close and she probably told him something about her locket, (but likely not the who or what gender. I think Akio told him that in his sleazy Akio way.) while he may have hinted at his own unrequited love to her. Juri said she was only "filling in for him" as head of the fencing club while he was ill. We see from their fighting styles that he taught her all her best moves. Even when she's at Ruka's throat, he's still extremely important to her. She's thinking about him when he's gone/ dead to Ohtori's closed off world of immaturity.

The person who actually kept Ruka's sword polished, awaiting his recovery and return to the school, was Juri herself. I have always thought that. It's what Juri would do.

☆INSANITY WARNING!!!☆

No CSM Tuesday effects finally hit me, so today I will propose theories of why *I think* relationship between Yoshida, Denji, and Asa would have significant impact in the future (in short, they will be a some sort of trio).

Source? I have no source. This post absolutely has no valid basis. Just me and my feelings, my own delulus, my own mess. It's all just in my head. And I decided to do an insane amount of reaching and stretching to the point I and my friends start to question my own sanity.

Let's just say... I have contract with Fanfiction Devil. All these theories below are the waste products of my contract (I sold half of my soul and sanity). So I hope you guys didn't take this as leaks or valid predictions or something. This is purely my own madness (even if it doesn't happen, I still have that Fanfiction Devil contract, I could fix them).

So, what are those "YoshiDenAsa trio will happen" theories? Well, allow me to elaborate further then. Please buckle up your seat and prepare your ibuprofens because this journey will be a long and confusing one.

#1 - Animals and Habitats Representation Theory

Asa's last name, Mitaka (三鷹) literally means Three Hawks. Asa represent bird, the sky. Just like how hawk observes from the sky before attempting a strike, that's what Asa's narratives roles *I think* would be. She's meant to be an observant at first before surprise attack. We've seen that before and I think we will see more of it as I believe she would become stronger as the time goes.

Denji's devil heart represent dog, the land. It's 100% obvious that Pochita is treated as a dog, there's no doubt. And just like that, it also represent Denji's roles in the narratives. The thing is, Denji is not an ordinary dog no more, he's the feral ones. To control and to "tame" him now will be no easy task as his previous owner who successfully "claim" him (Makima) is already dead.

(Hawks could pick up and eat dogs btw, just like how Yoru in the past could defeat Chainsaw Man so many times before her fall. It does fit the narratives when we think about it hard enough)

And lastly... Yoshida, he represent octopus, the sea. Just like how octopus is solitary animal, both of them said to prefer living alone. Octopus is also very smart, and could camouflage to its surrounding. Which suit very well with common Yoshida's character interpretation that's usually interpret him as this very mysterious knowledgeful being.

However the truth is, Yoshida is a human, just like the rest. And octopus is just a part of bigger animal kingdom, just like the dog and the bird. Now we just wait until that little octopus get tired of pretending to be a dog (to Public Safety) and finally break free, like many of "octopus jail break" cases in real life.

In conclusion, I think these three different animals symbolism will be connected to each other somehow in some way. It's too much of a coincidences for it to just be a mere coincidences and not Fujimoto's writing choices IMO.

#2 - Three Horsemen × Three Birds Theory

As you can see in this poorly written image, this theory will try to debunk the connection between Yoshida, Denji, and Asa with their respective Horsemen Devils counterpart.

"Why are you so sure that three birds imagery will be very important?"

"Mi" in "Mitaka" means three. Asa is the new main character, her name have symbolism just like how Denji's name come from Tenshi (Angel). Also we already get introduced to three Horsemen Devils who will deliver major impact in this part.

It's a messy dots right now BUT when you try to connect it, things started to make more sense. So, about their connections to their respective Horsemen Devil counterpart/parallel...

Asa is connected to Yoru (she literally use Asa's body as her vessel), the War Devil. Just like how she has constant war within herself and with society as a teenage girl. War Devil fits Asa so much.

Denji is connected to Makima and Nayuta, the Control Devil. Because he's very persistent to keep fighting for his freedom over people who try to abuse him and control him in his entire life.

Yoshida is connected to AND supposedly opposes Kiga/Fami, the Famine Devil. His last name, Yoshida (吉田) literally means "Lucky Ricefield" (and rice is the most common staple food in Asia). He's really built and made to oppose her. Though he did shows signs of social starvation.

Back to three birds imagery. If we read the same manga, you'll notice how birds is used a lot in part 2 and also used by Makima to keep an eye to her surroundings and her enemies (remember Katana Man Arc).

It's hard for me to come up with paragraphs of explanation so I will just show you this image on how I connected the dots.

++ Bonus delusions: Chapter 99 is titled "Two Birds", probably to reference both Asa and Yoru. But the three birds imagery there still bother me. To the point, I think it's actually for Yoshida. So by "Two Birds", it's maybe means Yoshida and Asa rather than Yoru and Asa (or them three, YoshiAsaYoru because it looks very deliberate to have double meanings (the three birds is not for YoshiAsaYuko sadly🥲)).

In conclusion, three birds symbolism in part two IMO stand for three human (Asa, Denji, Yoshida) and three horsemen (War, Control, Famine). I'm very positive that their 2x3 groupies will have deeper meaning and connection in the future.

#3 - Chapters Title Theory

Now we come to the last theory I have for YoshiDenAsa trio possibilities. I can't put image in this section because I already hit the limit so let's use our imagination a little bit.

This one is kinda fanfic-esque and I did the most of my far stretching here so I recommend you to drink that ibuprofen you brought right now before entering this insanity trip.

First, let's take a look for where Yoshida, Asa, and Denji are in the same chapter:

- Chapter 109 with title "The Easy Way to Stop Bullying"

- Chapter 114 with title "Endless Aquarium"

- Chapter 115 with title "High Schoolers These Days"

- Chapter 117 with title "Penguin and Weapon"

- Chapter 121 with title "Theory of Happiness"

- Chapter 132 with title "Protection"

Second, let's take another look to which chapter where their interractions to each other was the main focus:

- Chapter 120 with title "Triangle"

This is actually a signs for their weird love interest triangle. Trust me. Hear me out. There's something more in these chapters title, I just know it. Based on what? My feelings. Maybe it will be like how chapter 102 ("Save The Cat") was a foreshadowing for chapter 127 ("Save The Asa").

I just could feel it in my soul. These chapters title will be more relevant in the future. TRUST.

frank/hazel/leo most popular pjo ot3? an analysis

okay so the love triangle poll had me thinking. i knew frank/hazel/leo had ship content on ao3, and i was curious to see if other love triangles or popular trios got the same treatment.

(this is very long and rambling)

this is the amount of ao3 content frank/hazel/leo has:

last one is crazy lol. anyway, other potential trios like jason/reyna/piper or different combos of percy/annabeth/piper/jason all had less than 20 fics each. its possible i missed one but i'm pretty sure i tried of all of them.

for context, the general state of pjo character and ship content looks like this:

the vast majority of tagged fandom content with frank and hazel has them as background characters. finding content that centers them takes digging. aside from calypso/leo, they have the least popular canon ship, and the only other character that either has any substantial fan content with is leo. the pjo fandom has shipped leo with literally any character he was in proximity with, and hazel was a canon love interest of his. in addition, the pjo fandom has incredibly popular mlm ships and has gone through the time-honored tradition of finding ways to sideline, if not villainize, the canon female love interests. which makes these next stats so interesting to me:

a decent portion of works in both of these tags are frank/hazel/leo fics that got crosstagged. obviously, frank/hazel have more fics than frank/hazel/leo:

however, its impossible to figure out how many of these fics actually center frank/hazel, as opposed to them just being background characters. so i did a test and filtered out all of the more popular ships in their tag:

this isn't a perfect representation, because there are definitely frank/hazel centric-fics that had other ships in the background, and frank/hazel/leo aren't the main couple of every fic they get tagged in. still, though. that's less than the frank/hazel/leo fics.

the other thing about hazel and frank content is that they are the two characters who are most frequently headcanoned as straight. it's died down some in recent years but it used to be CONSTANT (it happened to leo too, but not as much). most fans thought they were the two most "traditional" characters, value-wise. so i was thinking, if frank and hazel got this much content for a poly ship, then the characters that this fandom actually thinks are gay have to have more:

and then i was like, hmmm well okay i'm very surprised there's not more for those three. but there's so many people who ship some combo of nico/percy/jason/will. i've seen so many big 3 edits that leave out the girls. there's no way frank/hazel/leo is beating out the white slash ship industrial complex.

my biggest guess would be that there was some sort of beef between the percy/nico and jason/nico crowds that has led to this lack of ot3 content. i wouldn't know. i'm wondering if they're going to catch up; its not far off right now. as far as i can tell will solace has no popular ot3's that broke more than 20 fics and is pretty much only shipped with nico.

other potential ot3's like jason/piper/leo...i have a theory that a lot of jason/piper shippers only really shipped it in conjunction with percy/annabeth because they were were a good secondary couple for percabeth-centric fics, and didn't care about leo as much (which could explain why there's more overall content for jason and piper than for leo). also, i think historically a lot of leo fans thought jason and piper were bad friends, although these days there's a lot more renewed appreciation for their trio. piper has also been commonly written as a ship obstacle since the inception of her character, when people thought she was homewrecking jason and reyna (the jason/nico crowd uses this trope too), which might be why she's not commonly put in ot3's despite having chemistry with most of the cast. on the other hand, the "ship wars" between hazel/frank and hazel/leo shippers in the mark of athena era were pretty mild, because most readers liked all three characters and didn't have strong enough feelings about either pairing to fight about it, whereas other ot3's don't get written because fans have a very strong preference for their other ships.

i know frank/hazel/leo has its origins on ff.net, but it was mostly one author and mostly just kink. there's a much bigger variety on ao3. i'm wondering why people liked it enough to make it a side pairing for other fics, and at what point the bulk of content for it was written. i'm wondering what people get out of combining the three of them that you don't get from just two. is it because all 3 dynamics are so clearly defined in canon? some of them also are based on kinks like mpreg that historically exclude women, so why do these authors include one? this is also interesting because the rest of the fanbase, including both fans who ship frank/hazel and fans who think that shipping hazel with anybody is problematic, refuse to write about hazel or frank having sex to the point where it was a fandom meme for a while. except in frank/hazel/leo fics, where a large percentage have explicit content. i'm wondering which of the nico/jason/percy or frank/hazel/leo tags has more mpreg, but i'm okay not knowing.

if you made it this far, there's not a real point to this post, except pointing out that for characters who barely get shipping content, frank/hazel/leo is unexpectedly popular considering how much content exists about them otherwise, and also goes against popular fandom perception of the characters in interesting ways.

Anne is right. Mary cannot look at her mother. She had offered her terms knowing there could be no terms - not even to send her to a nunnery, not even house arrest. She was too much of a threat, whatever Anne might have said and Mary loathes Cromwell all the worse for it, for making Mary do this.

With how Rook stalks Leona and Vil (is it really stalking with Vil if Vil is very much aware and consents enough for rook to be in the open?) if both of them date Jamil, would he also be stalked?

Thank you SO MUCH for asking! Lemme introduce you to Vil/Rook/Leona shipping, the sheer potential of Rook-Jamil, and my Rook metamour theory!

First, I'm a big Vil/Rook/Leona shipper. I call Rook/Leona the Hunter/Hunted ship. Who's the hunter? Who's the hunted? Who knows. As @aria-faye (THE Rook connoisseur who made me love Rook too lol) said, they both come from the same place, have the same culture, and are both somewhat outsiders in their own way. Rook doesn't really fit the Sunset Savanah stereotype or the Savanaclaw mentality in full. Leona doesn't fit the ideal of a prince and gets ostracized by his own people. Both of them work really well as a ship with Vil and it makes this funny Pomefiore-to-Savanaclaw pipeline with Rook in the middle, having been in both dorms.

For Jamil, once more quoting V "I feel like Rook kind of already keeps an eye on Jamil, a bit. He watches things he finds beautiful, and Jamil is definitely beautiful." Plus there didn't seem to be any adverse reaction from Jamil toward Rook for the entirety of book 5. And Rook is so desperately honest and true to himself that it contrasts completely with Jamil who still struggles to find himself after a lifetime of lying. He'd be a good push for Jamil to be more honest too, a good influence.

In relation to the N2 squad, here's my answer : METAMOUR. I'm already polyshipping 24/7, it might not yet be completely obvious in my blog but I ship more OT3 than actual couples. I work better with 3+ characters relationships than regular couples. So since Vil, Leona, and Jamil are already dating, why couldn't I add Rook too? He's not part of the N2 squad, but he's such a constant shadow to Vil that it's hard to imagine them away from each other. Leona and Jamil would start dating him fully knowing Rook is there and not leaving. Really, Rook would probably be Vil's first boyfriend before Leona and Jamil become a thing.

That doesn't mean Leona and Jamil would necessarily start dating Rook though, and that's where the metamour happens. They all share Vil, but whether there is a relationship between Leona and Rook, or Jamil and Rook is up to... my mood, mostly xD Or reader's interpretation I guess. Maybe they just get comfortable simply sharing Vil, maybe they have a sort of queer platonic relationship, maybe they're all dating.

I tend to treat Rook as a bonus when it comes to N2, because he doesn't fit the group, but it's hard to imagine him away, and he's so stupidly supportive that he'd probably be a good influence on forever-depressed-Leona and desperately-confused-Jamil.

Tldr : Jamil and Leona would start dating Vil knowing Rook would be there anyway, so if they ever feel uncomfortable about it they can only blame themselves.

i have a personal opinion (theory) that, at least Harry, has a VERY strict contract when it comes about being publicly seen with 1D members. and please don't get me wrong im not saying he is arrogant or think he's above the others. i simply think it's a marketing tactic to distance his image from boybander and focus on his solo career, just a professional choice that doesn't have anything to do with his personal relationship with the boys. say that cause the times he was seen with the others were basically the very significant ones (xfactor after Louis' mom passed, Liam's funeral), the ones we were not exactly supposed to know (with Niall at that concert or them walking - both photos taken by fans) and the commercial one (Niall's concert at the co-op live). and they went out of their way so he wouldn't be seen with Liam or Niall while attending the same event at the same time. so that's another reason it's hard to imagine a reunion - at Brits. although it would be a very significant event, it might bring way too much attention to them as part of a boyband again, after years.

That’s an interesting thought. Are you thinking that Sony would have put that in place? If it was, Harry walking through an arena with Niall, in full view of everyone, would have been breaking that contract. It seems more like a marketing angle than something that would be enforced by a contract.

Sony/Syco has started the Harry vs OT3 years before he went solo, so i wouldn’t be surprised that he would be encouraged to keep that image up.

The rough strokes of the Rook and Rose University AU were set out in response to this ask from @weaverofthenight. So a) you are so correct anon, the most correct, and b) have a random small snippet from sometime in the early days, when the OT3 still don't know about each other and various skullduggeries are afoot, as per usual.

It's quiet and dark in the deep depths of the library stacks, except for a single buzzing lightbulb that sways back and forth ever so slightly, as if in the breath of an unfelt wind. This place is always creepy, especially deep in the earth hours. He can't get a phone signal down here, but it's got to be past sixth earth at least, and Derossi Vargo moves carefully, sliding between the prosaic grey-steel expandable shelving and sending up small puffs of dust wherever he passes. He's fairly sure that nobody has been down here since the records were first deposited, but it's good. It's what he's counting on.

Absorbed with theories about where to find the particular box that Alsius has told him to look in, relying on knowledge of the University of Nadežra Mettore Indestor Memorial Library that is at least fifty years out of date, Vargo neglects to pay attention to where he is going, stubs his toe on a protruding shelf, and hops wrathfully on the spot, mouthing violent but silent curses. It's the old gutter-rat instinct to conceal his presence when sneaking around at night, even if the youngest-ever Distinguished Professor of Numinatria (Theory and Practice), recently appointed in a ceremony as splashy as the strained university budget can presently afford, has no need to creep around his own library like a thief. Then again, old habits die hard, and Vargo is intensely, neurotically conscious of the fact that among all the academics in the world who suffer from the same affliction, his impostor syndrome is in fact thunderously justified. Of course he's only here because of Alsius. Of course if that weird psychic link was ever broken, he would be as helpless as a first-year undergraduate (which is very helpless indeed). He is well aware that there are any number of scheming scholastic rivals, seething at being frozen out from this plum position, who are sharpening their knives and scouring his publications for incorrectly cited footnotes, so they can drag him up on a plagiarism review and get his tenure revoked. That, or just hire a catspaw to knife him in the back in some seedy Lower Bank alleyway, like the bad old days when --

Focus, my boy, Alsius orders. Focus. It does no one any good if you get nabbed by campus security in the meantime, now does it? Especially not that Serrado fellow. He's very... attentive.

"Right," Vargo mutters, still massaging his foot and proceeding gingerly into the musty, dusty, biblio-smelling darkness. He gropes around on a higher shelf, pulls a decaying cardboard box toward him and squints at it, trying to make sense of the smudged Liganti label. He's just decided that he doesn't think this is the one when -- extremely unusually for the library at this hour -- he hears footsteps coming down the next aisle. He turns off his glowing phone screen sharpish and stuffs it in his pocket, though this is arguably more suspicious than just casually greeting a fellow academic insomniac rustling through the stacks at night. He cranes his head, peering across the tattered edges of archived newspapers and dusty boxes, and even in the dimness, recognizes the newcomer. It's that mysterious and glamorous new PhD student from Seteris, Renata Viraudax, who has recently arrived on campus on a full scholarship and caused at least half of it to fall desperately in love with her. Alta Renata is dazzling beyond a doubt, but Vargo, Distinguished Professor or not, is still a small-time street rat and con artist made good, and he has not lost those instincts (especially not as a coterie of disgruntled Nadežran academics plot vigorously at his demise). There's something about her he doesn't quite trust.

Renata pauses on the far side of the shelves, only a few breaths from Vargo, and checks something in a notebook. She frowns, then looks up sharply as Vargo accidentally inhales too much dust and his eyes water ferociously with the effort not to sneeze. "Hello?" she calls. "Is someone there?"

Vargo, with a fittingly legendary effort of will, holds it in until she decides it was nothing, then moves away, still searching. He doesn't know why the talk of the town is also down here at odd hours, in the same disused sector of the library as him, but it unhelpfully piques his curiosity. Either that or he's just here to annoy Vargo personally, which feels more and more likely the more often they run into each other like this. "Thanks. You can go."

Serrado makes a skeptical noise in his throat, eyeing Vargo's dusty jacket with particular attention. "Working late?"

"Something like that." Vargo smiles, pleasant and closed-mouthed. He could be more charming if he wanted -- Serrado isn't bad-looking, for all that he tends to turn up like a bad penny and has the sense of humor of a dead fish -- but he doesn't. "Excuse me."

Serrado turns his head to watch him leave, dark eyes alert and intent, and Vargo makes a sour note to stop by Campus Security and see if there is any particular clout that a Distinguished Professor can exert upon their hiring practices. Probably not, but it never hurts to try.

I do feel sad for Niall that he seems to have been on the receiving end of a lot of it.

I mean, from the very beginning. Remember that Harry was the only one to go to Ireland back in 2010. That's how the brothers really felt about Niall. Couldn't even be bothered to try to bond with him. Only Harry did, and this speaks volumes about Harry's character, even as a 16yo boy he knew right from wrong.

Some stupid prank taken too far is probably what caused the Great Schism of 2012 between them. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to bully Harry too and it would explain why Harry separated himself from the ot3 and Niall just followed him. I also think Harry was the only one who made Niall feel safe. Once you notice how often in group interviews Niall is sitting next to Harry, you can't unsee it. Body language matters.

That's my theory too. The 2012 rift was caused by some godawful 'prank' on Louis' behalf, like shredding Harry's songwriting journal or half drowning him while he was asleep.

Jaq has that orange and red ensemble, and Charming has his classic white gold and red outfit, making Cinderella the perfect middle bridge between the two’s outfits. When Jaq becomes a mouse again he puts on the dark blue jacket, which is the perfect contrast to Cinderella’s yellow outfit and a callback to her dark blue dress earlier in the segment where he’s human during the day.

Charming mainly wears the dark blue outfit when Cinderella is wearing light pink. And Jaq wears orange and red, which is a lovely contrast to dark blue and a darker version of Cinderella’s specific pink dress
