You can start with either Season 1 or Season 2! The seasons aren’t that connected to begin with and are mostly independent from each other.

Season 1

Watch Empires: the Musical. 42 minutes and a full, official summary of LDShadowLady (Lizzie)’s POV of the series. She doesn’t engage in main server lore much but has a very intriguing character arc.

For a POV closely aligned with the lore, see Scott Smajor’s POV, the alleged “anime protagonist”. There are a couple of prominent 3rd Life references in terms of character relationships, but they’re not essential to the plot. He has a “Best Bits” compilation and is a semi-official summary!

I’ve heard of other fans recommending Shubble (Shelby)’s POV, and from what I’ve heard, it sounds intriguing enough.

Joel SmallishBeans goes all out in terms of building. His character’s main gimmicks are “build megabase” and “love wife”. He is also violently lorephobic.

Season 2

For worldbuilding and amazing builds, Pixlriffs is doing amazing over there. His episodes are mostly chill, and due to his involvement in worldbuilding, he’s also called “the Lore Man”.

For in-character lore, turn to MythicalSausage. His POV has a lot of backstory, but warning that his POV has the most Season 1 references and some Afterlife SMP (ALSMP) references. If you choose to go into Season 2 without watching Season 1 or ALSMP, I can give you a quick rundown on what you need to know.

TheOrionSound’s POV is the shortest by length in terms of episodes. However, his POV is closely aligned with ALSMP, and his first episode features a reference to Dr**m.

Katherine Elizabeth’s POV is quite fun to watch.

Jimmy Solidarity’s POV is very funny to watch. Toy Story jokes ahoy! Be warned that his POV during the Hermitcraft crossover makes references to Double Life, and check out his stream clips channel because there is some serious gold over there.

Joel SmallishBeans once again goes all out by building two empires under one name. He goes slightly insane with construction (as usual) and has a parasocial relationship with Editor Joel.

FalseSymmetry’s POV is interesting, but to fully experience her character lore, I recommend also watching her Hermitcraft POV during the Empires-HC crossover.

Content Warnings (list may be incomplete)

Common to both seasons: Amnesia, animal cruelty/death (as usual for MCRP), religion.

Season 1: Childhood trauma, jumpscares (occasional), kidnapping, major character death, possession, sad ending (hopeful in a few cases, but mostly sad), self-esteem issues and self-loathing, stalking, suicide (at the ending).

Season 2: Copious innuendoes, eye trauma (in backstory), genocide (in backstory).

Personal notes

I mained Lizzie’s POV for Season 1 and have since caught up on Scott’s POV and most of Jimmy Solidarity’s POV, but I am somewhat aware of everyone else’s lore to varying degrees

I watch all POVs for Season 2, though I still need to catch up on Joey’s POV. For the Hermitcraft crossover, I usually turn to the Hermitcraft Recap because there are too many POVs to watch at this point

I have several Google Docs dedicated to worldbuilding canon and headcanons and another to conlanging, if you’re interested
