VENERABLE PLATO ABBOT OF THE STUDION (813)
Tumblr media
The Monk Platon (Plato) was born in the year 735 into a pious Christian family of the parents Sergios and Euphemia. Orphaned early on, the boy was taken for raising by relatives, who gave him a fine education. When he grew up he began life on his own. The saint occupied himself in the first years in managing his property, which his parents had left him upon their death. He was very temperate and hard-working and acquired great wealth from his toil. But in his heart, the monk-to-be blazed with love for Christ. He gave away all his property, freed his servants, and withdrew into a monastery called "Ensymboleion" near Mount Olympos. His prayerful zeal, love of work, and geniality won him the love of the brethren. In his free moments from prayer, the monk copied divine service books and compiled anthologies from the works of the holy fathers. When the head of the monastery, Theoktistos, died in 770, the brethren chose the Monk Platon as hegumen despite his mere 35 years of age. After the death of the emperor Constantine Kopronymos (775), the Monk Platon set out to Constantinople. He resigned from the administration of the Nicomedia metropolitan. In 782, together with his nephews – Saints Theodore (+ 826, Comm. 11 November) and Joseph (+ 830, Comm. 26 January), he withdrew to the desolate place of Sokudion. They built a church on the Mount in honor of the holy Apostle John the Theologian and founded a monastery, the head of which became the Monk Platon. When Saint Tarasios and Empress Irene convened in Nicea in 787, the Seventh Oecumenical Council, the Monk Platon, actively participated in its work. Being learned and erudite in Holy Scripture, he successfully unmasked the error in the Iconoclast heresy and defended the veneration of holy icons. When the Monk Platon approached old age, he transferred the guidance of the monastery to the Monk Theodore. In 795, the emperor Constantine VI (78-797) forced his spouse to accept monasticism and decided to marry one of his kinswomen, Theodosia. Even though the holy Patriarch Tarasios condemned this marriage, one of the conspicuous Constantinople priests, Joseph, violated the Patriarch's prohibition and celebrated the emperor's marriage. Having learned this, the Monks, Platon, and Theodore, excommunicated the emperor from the Church and dispatched a letter to all the monks. The enraged emperor gave orders to lock up Saint Platon in prison and to banish the Monk Theodore to Soluneia. Only after the emperor died in 797 did they receive their freedom. The Monk Theodore settled in Constantinople and became the hegumen of the Studite monastery. The Monk Platon lived as a simple monk at this monastery under the obedience of his nephew. When the new emperor Nicephoros (802-811) returned to the Church on his own, the excommunicated priest Joseph, the Monks Platon, and Theodore again came forward with a denunciation of the emperor's unlawful activities. For this, the brave confessors were again punished in 807. They were imprisoned for four years. The Monk Platon was freed from imprisonment in 811 after the emperor's death and returned to the Studite monastery. He survived three years more at work and prayer, and expired to the Lord on Lazarus Saturday at age 79, on 8 April 814. For his fearless speaking out in defense of holy icons, the Monk Platon received the title of "confessor".

OPTINA NEW MARTYRS SLAIN ON PASQUA (1993)
Tumblr media
On 18 April 1993, three inhabitants of Optina Hermitage — Hieromonk Vasily (Roslyakov), Monk Trophim (Tatarinov), and Monk Therapont (Pushkaryov) — were brutally murdered by a Satanist. These three men were deemed worthy of martyrdom on Pascha. Who were these brave men, and what were they like?
We present the lives of these three saint-worthy servants of God who have yet to be canonized. It's a matter of time.
Hieromonk Vasily
Hieromonk Vasily, born Igor Ivanovich Roslyakov, was born on 23 December 1960 in Moscow. His father was a military man, and his mother was a textile weaver. From his early years, Igor excelled in swimming and eventually became the best player in the European Championship among youth water polo teams. He later graduated from the Journalism Department of Moscow State University and nurtured a devotion to writing poetry.
A chance meeting with a local translator during a competition in the Netherlands inspired Igor to start correspondence. However, during the “Cold War” era, the authorities frowned upon such interactions, who accused him of “communication with foreign citizens” and banned him from travelling abroad. Distraught, Igor sought consolation from a priest, a meeting that sparked his first visit to a church and left him inspired.
gor began to immerse himself in prayer and the writings of the holy fathers. Despite concerns from his fellow athletes that fasting might weaken him, he confidently asserted, “The main thing is to have spiritual strength,” a principle he demonstrated through his athletic performance.
In 1985, Igor celebrated Pascha for the first time. Overwhelmed with joy at the festive table with parishioners of St Nicholas Church in Moscow, he expressed a poignant wish: “It would be good to die on Easter, to the ringing of church bells.”
Learning about the revival of Optina Pustyn, Igor spent his holidays there, helping restore the monastery. This experience ignited his desire to remain there permanently. After becoming a novice, Igor was blessed to stay in the skete, a humble wooden shack once occupied by the revered 19th-century Russian elder Ambrose (Grenkov) of Optina. Initially, Igor assisted with cleaning the grounds, working in the icon shop, reading the Psalter, and keeping watch at the monastery gates.
On 29 April 1989, on Great and Holy Saturday, Igor was accepted into the monastery’s brotherhood. Reflecting on this, he wrote in his diary, “God’s mercy is granted freely, but we must offer the Lord all that we have.” On 5 January 1990, novice Igor was tonsured into monasticism, receiving the name Vasily (Basil) in honour of Saint Basil the Great.
Father Vasily often spoke humbly of himself, saying, “Although I am weak, my heart longs for the age-old monastic exploits in which our holy fathers sought salvation.”
His cell was a testament to his ascetic lifestyle: his bed was a cot covered with boards and a piece of felt, with bricks from the crypt of the Venerable elder Joseph of Optina as a pillow. Instead of a chair, he used a thick log. His bookshelf was laden with theological works by the Holy Fathers, and one wall was adorned with a reproduction of the Holy Trinity by the Venerable Andrei Rublev.
Father Vasily’s prayer life was intense; he spent hours making low earth bows in his cell at night, using his father’s old coat to muffle the sound. He adhered to a strict prayer rule, reading the Vespers with canons daily. If he missed his daily prayers, he compensated by praying at night, even while travelling. Father Vasily relished church services and served as a canonarch.
During Lent, he ate once a day, usually consuming vegetables or sour berries with a small amount of bread. Known for his humility, he always considered himself a novice, taking joy in being spiritually guided.
Father Vasily had a gentle and loving way of comforting and rejoicing in the successes of others. On 8 April 1990, Father Vasily was ordained a hierodeacon, becoming one of the monastery’s most esteemed preachers.
On Great and Holy Friday, two days before Father Vasily’s death, he experienced a profound spiritual moment during a divine service. He suddenly paused while stepping onto the solea to proclaim stichera and fell silent. At that moment, the choir sang in his stead, “Heaven at this was amazed, and the sun hid its rays.” Father Vasily remained discreet about the details of this experience.
On Holy Saturday, Father Vasily spent the entire day hearing confessions. The combination of severe fatigue, the responsibilities of the services, sleepless nights, and strict fasting (he ate nothing at all during Holy Week) took its toll on his health. Visibly pale and struggling to maintain balance, he leaned on the analogion for support. After being sprinkled with holy water by the hieromonk consecrating the Pascha cakes, he smiled, feeling somewhat relieved, and remarked, “It’s much better now,” before returning to his confessional duties.
Before the Paschal liturgy, Father Vasily was tasked with preparing the proskomidia. Ordinarily adept at this duty, he found it unusually difficult this time. Urged by the dean to hasten, he responded, “I’m sorry, I can’t. It’s so hard, as if I were cutting through my own flesh.”
At the Liturgy’s conclusion, Father Vasily served as canonarch despite his exhaustion. Noticing his weariness, a brother from the choir suggested, “Have some rest, father. We can manage on our own.”
But Father Vasily firmly replied, “I am fulfilling my obedience,” and continued with the Paschal sticheron: “May God arise, and His enemies be scattered!” He firmly believed it was better to die in obedience than to relinquish it...to be continued here

ISAIAH 42:5-16
5 Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: 6 “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house. 8 I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.” 10 Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth, You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, You coastlands and you inhabitants of them! 11 Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, And declare His praise in the coastlands. 13 The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man and stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies. 14 “I have held My peace a long time, I have been still and restrained Myself. Now I will cry like a woman in labor, I will pant and gasp at once. 15 I will lay waste the mountains and hills, And dry up all their vegetation; I will make the rivers coastlands, And I will dry up the pools. 16 I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them.
GENESIS 18:20-33
20 And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, 21 “I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” 22 Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. 23 And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? 24 “Suppose there were fifty righteous within the city; would You also destroy the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous that were in it? 25 “Far be it from You to do such a thing as this, to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be as the wicked; far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” 26 So the Lord said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.” 27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: 28 “Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous; would You destroy all of the city for lack of five?” So He said, “If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.” 29 And he spoke to Him yet again and said, “Suppose there should be forty found there?” So He said, “I will not do it for the sake of forty.” 30 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Suppose thirty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.” 31 And he said, “Indeed now, I have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord: Suppose twenty should be found there?” So He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.” 32 Then he said, “Let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak but once more: Suppose ten should be found there?” And He said, “I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.” 33 So the Lord went His way as soon as He had finished speaking with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

one of the biggest documents we have to share is our canon list, and below the cut you’ll find all of our canon families as well as some information about them. don’t worry, if you don’t find a family you want to play, then we accept original characters as well! this is just to help you know who you might want to reserve and their ethnicities.
on our canon list, you may find ethnicities have changed in terminology with time, border movement, independence, or modernisation. it is not our intention to be offensive, but if you see an issue with anything on our list, let us know and we will do our very best to resolve the problem.
as written elsewhere on the tumblr, for the time being if you participate in our reblog and introduction contest then you’ll be able to reserve three canons and three faces (for those canons)!!! taken canons are formatted like this.

SAINTS FOR JULY 18
St. Theodosia of Constantinople, Roman Catholic Nun and Martyr at the monastery of St. Anastasia. She led a group of nuns in defense of the icon of Christ which hung over the main door of the community when soldiers were sent to enforce the decrees of the Iconoclast emperors Leo Ill the Isaurian and Constantine V. St. Marina, Roman Catholic Martyr of Orense, in Spanish Galicia, Spain.Marina and her sisters were baptized by the bishop of Braga Saint Ovidius (Ovid, Ovidio) and brought up in the Christian faith. When they were twenty, they were accused of being Christians and brought before their father the governor. He recognized them as his own daughters, and asked them to renounce their faith, promising them luxuries. The sisters refused and were imprisoned. They managed to escape and were ultimately martyred for their faith. A spring of water gushed out of the spot where they were beheaded; the spot was called Aguas Santas ("Holy Waters"). Feastday July 18

VENERABLE HILARION the NEW, ABBOT OF THE DALMATIANS MONASTERY (845).
Tumblr media
Saint Hilarion the New was born of pious parents, Peter and Theodosia, who raised him in the virtues and instructed him in Holy Scripture. At twelve years of age, Saint Hilarion was tonsured as a monk at the Hesychius monastery near Constantinople, and from there, he transferred to the Dalmatus monastery, where he received the Great Schema and became a disciple of Saint Gregory the Dekapolite (November 20).
The monk deeply venerated his God-bearing patron Saint Hilarion the Great (October 21), and he strove to imitate his life, so he came to be called Hilarion the New. At the Dalmatus monastery, he was ordained presbyter. After the death of the igumen, the brethren wanted to elect Saint Hilarion to this position, but learning of this, he secretly fled to Constantinople.
Then the monks of Dalmatus monastery sent a petition to Patriarch Nikēphóros, asking that Saint Hilarion be assigned as igumen. The Patriarch summoned the saint and persuaded him to give his assent. Saint Hilarion submitted out of holy obedience. He peacefully guided the monastery for eight years, but in 813, the iconoclast Leo the Armenian (813-820) occupied the imperial throne. The saint refused to dishonor the holy icons and boldly accused the emperor of heresy, for which he endured many torments. They locked him up in prison and vexed him with hunger and thirst.
The impious Patriarch Theodotus, who replaced the exiled Patriarch Nikēphóros, caused the monk much suffering in demanding that he abandon Orthodoxy. The monks of the Dalmatus monastery went to the emperor and asked him to release the saint, promising to submit to the imperial will. After they returned to the monastery, however, Saint Hilarion and the monks continued to venerate the holy icons. The enraged emperor again threw the monk into prison. He gave the saint to torture with all the means at his disposal, hoping to change his mind.
The wrath of God soon overtook the wicked emperor. His soldiers in the church cut him down at the very spot where he had once thrown down a holy icon. The new emperor Michael II (820-829), freed Saint Hilarion from imprisonment, and the saint settled into a monastic cell. Upon the death of Saint Theodore the Studite (November 11), who also suffered for the holy icons, Saint Hilarion beheld holy angels taking the soul of Saint Theodore to Heaven.
Under the iconoclast emperor Theophilus (829-842), Saint Hilarion was again put under guard and beaten terribly, then they confined him on the island of Aphousia.
After the death of Theophilus, the holy empress Saint Theodora (842-855) gave orders to recall the confessors from exile. Saint Hilarion returned to the Dalmatus monastery, again agreeing to be igumen. He departed peacefully in the year 845.

SAINT CLAUDIUS OF BESANÇON, ABBOT OF CONDAT (Gaul_699)
Tumblr media
According to a long tradition from Salins-les-Bains, Claudius was born in the castle of Bracon near Salins of a Gallo-Roman family named Claudia. This family produced another Saint Claudius in the 6th century.
One of his biographers, Laurentius Surius, writes that Claudius was entrusted to tutors at a young age and that in addition to studying academic subjects, Claudius spent hours reading devotional works, particularly the lives of the saints. Until the age of twenty, he served as a border guard, but in 627, he was appointed as a canon by Donatus (Donat), bishop of Besançon. Donatus had written regulations for his canon priests; Claudius followed them assiduously. He became famous as a teacher and ascetic, eating only one frugal meal daily.
After serving as a priest at Besançon, Claudius entered the abbey of Condat, at Saint-Claude, Jura (named after him after his death), in the Jura mountains. He was then elected to succeed as the twelfth abbot at Condat at the age of 34 in 641 or 642, during the pontificate of Pope John IV. brought the Benedictine Rule to Condat. He obtained support from Clovis II (whose wife, Balthild, had persuaded him to do so), obtaining from the monarch an annuity. Under Claudius' rule, the abbey thrived. Claudius built new churches and reliquaries and fed the area's poor and pilgrims.
On the death of Saint Gervase, the bishop of Besançon, the city's clergy elected Claudius as their archbishop in 685. He thus served, somewhat reluctantly, as the 29th bishop of Besançon, according to the episcopal catalogs.
However, upon seeing that discipline had become lax at Condat, Claudius decided to abdicate his see and return as abbot at Condat." He then died in 696 or 699...

ROMANS 7:1-13
1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives? 2For the woman with a husband is legally bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; if her husband dies, she is free from that law, so she is no adulteress, though she has married another man. 4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another-to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. 7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. I would not have known covetousness unless the law said, "You shall not covet." 8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced all evil desire in me. For apart from the law, sin was dead. 9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. 12 Therefore, the law is holy, and the commandment is just and pleasing. 13 Has then what is good become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, that it might appear sin was producing death in me through what is good, so that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this, you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 who have not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith and the salvation of your souls.
MATTHEW 9:36-1:8
36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His harvest.
1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, cast them out, and heal all kinds of sickness and disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew, the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying: "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter a city of the Samaritans. 6 But go instead to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Absolutely one hundred percent my hphl disaster griffindork kiddo Theo Abbott and her friend Taghd Lynch ( @unfortunate-arrow )
Theo's mother is pretty controlling and emotionally abusive as is her grandmother and Taghd's were physically abusive ( Theo made several comments about fighting their ghosts) and it really encapsulates how she feels about him finding a life outside of them. ( and i think how her friends Teddy and Adelia ( @cursebreakerfarrier @thatravenpuffwitch feel about her doing the same too which really with how their relationship with their parents are I almost wanna say the song applies to how she feels about them too?)

1, 34, and 45 for both Marty and Theo, please?
YAY MY GIRLS <3 <3
Tumblr media
1) What’s their full name and what does it mean?
Marti: Marta Beatrice Venturi
Marta: Cognate of Martha, which is derived from the Aramaic Mārthā (lady, mistress). The name is borne in the Bible by the sister of Lazarus and Mary of Bethany.
Beatrice: name derived from the French name Béatrice, which came from the Latin Beatrix, which means "she who makes happy". Beatrice is the Italian language variant.
Venturi: Surname that comes from the Italian "bonaventura," meaning "good luck" or "good fortune."
Theo: Theodosia Jane Abbott
Theodosia: The name Theodosia means Divine Gift and is of Greek origin.
Jane:  The name Jane means God Is Gracious and is of English origin.
Abott:  English and Scottish: from Middle English abbott 'abbot' (Old English abbod) or Old French abet 'priest'. Both the Old English and the Old French term are derived from Late Latin abbas 'priest' (genitive abbatis), from Greek abbas, from Aramaic aba 'father'.
34. What’s their theme song?
Marti: Take On The World_Sabrina Carpenter
Theo: tbh it’s a tie between Unwritten_  Natasha Bedingfield (  I break tradition// Sometimes my tries are outside the lines// We’ve been conditioned to not make mistakes// But I can’t live that way ) which fits her a lot in re to her breaking norms and being devil may care and  I don’t wanna Stop_Ozzy Ozborne which also really fits with her and has more her vibe in re to her being turbulent and chaotic so Imma say both.
A more detailed playlist can be found in this post though I’ll also be revising it as it was done on the fly.
45. What quote best defines them?
Marti: “You can’t save the world if you don’t look cute” Marti hush.
No but more seriously this is the quote, like this is her entire energy.
“All witches are selfish, the Queen had said. But Tiffany’s Third Thoughts said: Then turn selfishness into a weapon! Make all things yours! Make other lives and dreams and hopes yours! Protect them! Save them! Bring them into the sheepfold! Walk the gale for them! Keep away the wolf! My dreams! My brother! My family! My land! My world! How dare you try to take these things, because they are mine!”
― Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men
Theo:
“Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead Walk beside me… just be my friend” ― Albert Camus

Names for all of them please!
YAY
Okay
HPHM
Marta Beatrice Venturi
For Marti -as well as her siblings- I sorta took a lot of inspo from the tv show  Life With Derek. So her first name and last name come from there. ( as well as her siblings sans Jacob ) since while I was thinking about starting the game I had also been talking with a friend about how the show was a big comfort as a kid. Although the characters have become more or less my own as I write for them ( in my head lmao)  and play the game, I kept the names.
I did look up what Marti could be short for tho and came up with Marta
Marta: is a name that that is the form of MARTHA used in various languages.
Meaning: From research the meaning behind the name is  (Latin from Ancient Greek Μάρθα, from Aramaic מרתא (martā) "the mistress" or "the lady", from מרה "mistress", feminine of מרי "master").
Beatrice is the middle name I picked for her. I knew I wanted the name to be of English origin as when I looked up the name Marta it told me that that was it’s origin. I was trying out different names and really liked how Marta Beatrice sounded together.
Meaning: The meaning also sold me though as it’s   a name derived from the French name Béatrice, which came from the Latin Beatrix, which means "she who makes happy" or ‘’Bringer of joys and blessings’’ Since I see Marti as a fairly cheerful kid I really liked it and thought it fit.
Venturi is an Italian name which I also took from LWD.
Meaning:  It’s meaning however    comes from the Italian "bonaventura," meaning "good luck" or "good fortune." which I find really freakin ironic considering Jacob and his family’s story with the plot of the game and I kinda really like that tbh.

HPHL
Theodosia Jane Abott:
Theodosia: For Theo I wanted a name that was unisex/androgynous. I sorta picked her face claim because I had always seen Jo March from Little Women as genderqueer. I had the name Ted/Teddy stuck in my head and kept thinking of names that sounded similar.( theodore...theo..) Finally I landed on Theodosia. Partly because I was stim singing Hamilton.
While Theodosia isn’t an unisex name it did lent itself to a nickname so I was happy.
Meaning  The name Theodosia means Divine Gift and is of Greek origin.
Jane I got from Jane Austen just because the period of time game took place in had me thinking of her. I do like how it contradicts Theodosia in it being short and more simple tho.
Meaning:  The name Jane means God Is Gracious and is of English origin.
Abott: I wanted her to be a pureblood but also not pick a super known last name though I did toy with the idea of naming her Black ( i might change it between now and future game updates but for now Abott she remains)
Meaning:  English and Scottish: from Middle English abbott 'abbot' (Old English abbod) or Old French abet 'priest'. Both the Old English and the Old French term are derived from Late Latin abbas 'priest' (genitive abbatis), from Greek abbas, from Aramaic aba 'father'.
Tumblr media
Tatiana Aguillard-Ambrose
Tatiana: I picked Tatiana’s first name as a callback to one of Nina Dorev’s roles in Vampire Diaries ( Tatia)
Meaning :  Tatiana is a female name of Sabine and Latin origin, a feminine derivative of the Sabine-Latin name Tatius. Titus Tatius was the name of a king of the Sabines, an Italic tribe living near Rome, presumably from the 8th to the 1st century BC.
Her last names I picked going from the fact that I wanted her to have a french surname ( as I conceptualized her as having french and Russian lineage)
Aguillard: I picked the name Aguillard because I liked the sound of it
Meaning:  metonymic occupational name for a needle maker from Old French aguillard, a variant (with a change of suffix) of aguillier, from a(i)guille ‘needle’
Ambrose I  also liked the name. In particular because it reminded me of Merlin from an old rp where Merlin’s descendant had that last name.
Meaning: its of greek origin and means Inmortal.

Venerable Bessarion Wonderworker of Egypt
Tumblr media
Saint Bessarion, Wonderworker of Egypt was an Egyptian. He was baptized while still in his youth, and he led a strict life, striving to preserve the grace given him during Baptism. Seeking to become more closely acquainted with the monastic life, he journeyed to the holy places. He was in Jerusalem, he visited Saint Gerasimus (March 4) in the Jordanian wilderness, he viewed other desert monasteries, and assimilated all the rules of monastic life.
Upon his return, he received monastic tonsure and became a disciple of Saint Isidore of Pelusium (February 4). Saint Bessarion took a vow of silence, and partook of food only once a week. Sometimes he remained without food or drink for forty days. Once, the saint stood motionless for forty days and forty nights without food or sleep, immersed in prayer.
Saint Bessarion received from God the gift of wonderworking. When his disciple was very thirsty, he sweetened bitter water. By his prayer the Lord sent rain upon the earth, and he could cross a river as if on dry land. With a single word he cast out devils, but he did this privately to avoid glory.
His humility was so great that once, when a priest ordered someone from the skete to leave church for having fallen into sin, Bessarion also went with him saying, “I am a sinner, too.” Saint Bessarion slept only while standing or sitting. A large portion of his life was spent under the open sky in prayerful solitude. He peacefully departed to the Lord in his old age.

Venerable Hilarion the New, Abbot of the Dalmatian Monastery
Tumblr media
Saint Hilarion the New was born of pious parents, Peter and Theodosia, who raised him in the virtues and instructed him in Holy Scripture. At twelve years of age Saint Hilarion was tonsured as a monk at the Hesychius monastery near Constantinople, and from there he transferred to the Dalmatus monastery, where he received the Great Schema and became a disciple of Saint Gregory the Dekapolite (November 20).
The monk deeply venerated his God-bearing patron Saint Hilarion the Great (October 21), and he strove to imitate his life, so he came to be called Hilarion the New. At the Dalmatus monastery, he was ordained presbyter. After the death of the igumen the brethren wanted to elect Saint Hilarion to this position, but learning of this, he secretly fled to Constantinople.
Then the monks of Dalmatus monastery sent a petition to Patriarch Nicephorus, asking that Saint Hilarion be assigned as igumen. The Patriarch summoned the saint and persuaded him to give his assent. Saint Hilarion submitted out of holy obedience. For eight years he peacefully guided the monastery, but in the year 813 the iconoclast Leo the Armenian (813-820) occupied the imperial throne. The saint refused to dishonor the holy icons, and he boldly accused the emperor of heresy, for which he endured many torments. They locked him up in prison for awhile, and vexed him with hunger and thirst.
The impious Patriarch Theodotus, who replaced the exiled Patriarch Nicephorus, caused the monk much suffering in demanding that he abandon Orthodoxy. The monks of the Dalmatus monastery went to the emperor and asked him to release the saint, promising to submit to the imperial will. After they returned to the monastery, however, Saint Hilarion and the monks continued to venerate the holy icons. The enraged emperor again threw the monk into prison. He gave the saint over to torture with all the means at his disposal, hoping to change his mind...keep reading OCA

Paul’s Ministry on Malta
28 Now when they had escaped, they then found out that the island was called Malta. 2 And the natives[a] showed us unusual kindness; for they kindled a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold. 3 But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 4 So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.” 5 But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm. 6 However, they were expecting that he would swell up or suddenly fall down dead. But after they had looked for a long time and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds and said that he was a god.
7 In that region there was an estate of the [b]leading citizen of the island, whose name was Publius, who received us and entertained us courteously for three days. 8 And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. 9 So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. 10 They also honored us in many ways; and when we departed, they provided such things as were necessary.
Arrival at Rome
11 After three months we sailed in an Alexandrian ship whose figurehead was the [c]Twin Brothers, which had wintered at the island. 12 And landing at Syracuse, we stayed three days. 13 From there we circled round and reached Rhegium. And after one day the south wind blew; and the next day we came to Puteoli, 14 where we found brethren, and were invited to stay with them seven days. And so we went toward Rome. 15 And from there, when the brethren heard about us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Three Inns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.
16 Now when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard; but Paul was permitted to dwell by himself with the soldier who guarded him.
Paul’s Ministry at Rome
17 And it came to pass after three days that Paul called the leaders of the Jews together. So when they had come together, he said to them: “Men and brethren, though I have done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was delivered as a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans, 18 who, when they had examined me, wanted to let me go, because there was no cause for putting me to death. 19 But when the [d]Jews spoke against it, I was compelled to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything of which to accuse my nation. 20 For this reason therefore I have called for you, to see you and speak with you, because for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”
21 Then they said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor have any of the brethren who came reported or spoken any evil of you. 22 But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.”
23 So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening. 24 And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. 25 So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to [e]our fathers, 26 saying,
‘Go to this people and say: “Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; And seeing you will see, and not perceive; 27 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.” ’
28 “Therefore let it be known to you that the salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it!” 29 [f]And when he had said these words, the Jews departed and had a great dispute among themselves.
30 Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.
