you are in love - taylor swift
—
One look, dark room, meant just for you
You’re sitting in the library with Theo, Pansy, and Draco studying for your upcoming Potions exam. Theo only invited you but Pansy overheard and then invited her boyfriend.
You’re sitting next to Theo, still wearing your short skirt uniform. His left hand is on your thigh, his pinky barely going underneath your skirt as he slightly moves his hand back and forth. You don’t even notice it because it’s become so routine. Especially with the weather, winter is approaching and you made the mistake of forgetting your coat. Theos’ hand was warming you up in the cold library.
You feel someone kick you and you look up to see the culprit, Pansy. She nods her eyebrows and points her eyes to where Theos’ hand is. You check the corner of your eye to make sure Theo isn’t looking. Once you determine he isn’t, you simply give Pansy a shrug. She scoffs and lifts her head to speak to the group, “Don’t you guys think it’s getting late?” She’s smiling but you can see what she’s doing. She wants to question the heck out of you as soon as possible, yet again.
Theo turns to you, waiting for your answer, as if his answer will be anything you decide. You have to admit, you are tired. “Yea, let’s head back.” Immediately Theo begins packing both of your things. You barely had time to process what he was doing before he was finished.
He grabs his and your bags when he says, “Let’s go.” You both stood up at the same time but he grabs you by the waist to stop you from walking away. “You can’t go out like that. It’s about to start raining and you’re wearing a skirt.” He grabs his coat from where he had placed it neatly behind him. As he’s wrapping his coat around you, he takes a few steps closer to you, enough to where you can feel his breath. He begins buttoning the coat and your eyes turn to look at his hands. You can tell he’s looking at your eyes but you’re afraid to look up.
“Geez get a room guys! Hurry up or we’re gonna leave you behind.” Dracos’ voice makes you take a step back and grab your bag off his shoulder. You speed walk towards Pansy and Theo hears something of an apology. He was left with his heart beating out of his chest all because the girl of his dreams was right in front of him and his Draco ruined it.
-
Theo is lying on you with his arms wrapped around your torso, his head below your neck. You’re playing with his hair as you listen to Blaise and Mattheo debate over you don’t know what.
You unintentionally make eye contact with Pansy. She raises her eyebrows and gives you a smirk. She’s the only one who knows about your feelings and constantly finds chances to subtly tease you. She always says he likes you too. However, you don’t see it. Theo and you are just friends, he will never have feelings for you.
You see that she’s in the exact same position as you are. Except nobody questions her because she and Draco are in a relationship. Your hand freezes on Theos’ hair and he looks up at you, “Are you okay?” His eyes piercing into yours.
You give him your most convincing smile, “Yea, I’m just tired.” You look away so he can’t see you’re lying to him.
He hugs you tighter for a second then says, “Okay let’s go to bed then.” He pulls away, getting off of you in the most gentlemanly manner. Once he’s off the couch he uses his left hand to hold yours and wraps his right hand around your waist as if you needed that extra support. “Guys we’re gonna go upstairs.” Theo announces their departure to the group.
Blaise gasps over-dramatically, “We’re going upstairs? Thank Merlin I’m tired!” He starts to fan himself, provoking Theo.
Theo narrows his eyes at the boy and shoves Blaise back down into his seat as the pair walk by hand in hand. “Not everyone ‘we’, ‘we’ as in Y/N and I. Goodnight.” He says without looking back, pulling you away from them.
Goodnight. He said goodnight. Implying you’ll be sleeping together, right? You’re pretty sure your face is a complete tomato. You turn around with a big smile, “Goodnight everybody, have a safe sleep!” Your voice echoes as you walk up the steps to Theos’ individual dorm.
What you didn’t get to hear is the conversation that continued in the common room.
“Safe? Who says have a safe sleep?”
“Not important Blaise.” Pansy rolls her eyes, “Did you guys see them? They are so annoying with the ‘They don’t like me back’ back and forth. We need to do something.”
They spend quite a bit of time coming up with a plan that would get one of you to confess your feelings to the other. They have too many to choose from, possibly too many that go too far. That would be Draco’s and Mattheo’s fault.
Upstairs in Theos’ dorm is a different story. He had lent you some of his shorts that he grew out of and a loose shirt, that was way oversized on you. You were lying in his bed waiting for him to exit the restroom. You two were just going to sleep, you knew that, but you couldn’t help all the scenarios that crossed through your mind.
You unconsciously played with the necklace Theo had gifted you for absolutely no reason at all. It was his initial with a note card reading, ‘Not because I own you, but because I know you.’ And you haven’t taken it off since.
You slightly open your eyes and you can tell it must be the middle of the night. You’re laying on Theos’ chest and look up to see him staring at you with a strange look on his face. He pauses, then says, “You're my best friend.” and you knew what it was, he is in love. At least you hope?
-
Valentine’s Day was coming up and so was the number of boys that were asking you to Hogsmeade. You were surprised that anybody at all was asking you out. Typically you just go with your friends to get a ButterBeer and walk around. For the past few years you’ve hoped Theo would ask you but he never has.
Due to the amount of second and third years asking you out, you assumed it was a prank. But then, Sirius Black asked you out and you found yourself saying yes to him with no hesitation. One conversation with him and your question of how does he get so many girls, is gone.
You’re doing homework in your dorm wearing your comfortable afterschool outfit. Someone knocks on your door, you get up from your bed and see that it’s Theo holding a small black present bag beautifully designed. Your mouth turns into that huge smile it does when you see him as you open the door. Immediately you wrap your arms around him to hug him, “Hi! Did we have plans?”
You let go once you realize he wasn’t hugging you back. In fact, he looked pissed. “Sirius Black? Do you know how many girls he’s been with? How many girls he’s made cry?” Okay so he found out.
You throw your head back in nervous laughter, “Theo, do you know how many girls you’ve been with?” You walk back into your room, Theo following you and closing the door behind him.
“Him and I are not the same person.” His eyes are piercing into yours. He’s two steps away from you and it feels like his skin is on yours. “I was going to ask you to Hogsmeade. I was going to ask you- you just needed to give me time. This is for you, for the day I was going to ask you.”
He’s holding out the small black present bag to you. It has a neatly set bow on the top, confirming that Pansy helped him with this gift. You open the bag and take out something inside, you see you two are dancing in a snow globe round’ and round’. Theo charmed the snowglobe so your figures would not only dance but play in the snow together, sit under a tree, swing on the swing set.
You gasp, it’s the most beautiful gift you’ve ever received. “Thank you thank you thank you!” You put the snowglobe down on your nightstand and give him the biggest hug, squeezing him as hard as you can. “I love it! I also got you a present…sort of.” You open your nightstand drawer and picking up the wrapped gift and handing it to Theo.
He chuckles, “Isn’t this just meant to be.” He whispers the last part mostly to himself but you softly smile having heard it. He rips the wrapping and sees it’s a gold frame with a photo of the two of you, he’s behind you with his chin on your head and his arms wrapped around your waist. Your hands are placed above his, securing they don’t leave. You both have a goofy smiles on your face.
“It’s for your nightstand, I don’t know I just thought it’d be cut-”
He interrupts you, “I love it. I absolutely love it.” He drags out his last word and now the silence is so loud. He has put down the gift and started staring at your necklace, the one he gave you for no reason at all.
The light reflects the chain on your neck. He sighs, taking a final step towards you, almost closing the space. He says, "Look up," and your shoulders brush. No proof, one touch. But you felt enough. He gently touches the necklace then smiles almost to himself. He meets your eyes, “I like you so so much Y/N. I have for years now and I can’t keep trying to forget you. I was going to ask you I promise. You just had to give me a little more time. I’ve spent my whole life trying to put this into words. It’s love, true love.”
He grabs your face and quickly presses his lips against yours, you waste no time kissing him back. This is finally happening, you never thought this would happen. You never thought you would be in this situation.
You’re the first to pull away and your foreheads are leaning on each other while you’re both breathing heavily. You give him a quick peck on the lips then a teasing smile when he pouts as you pull away. “I like you so so much too Theo.” He looks up in shock, quickly sitting on your bed and pulling you to straddle his waist.
He puts his hands dangerously low and attempts to pull you closer to him, you can tell it works when you see him take a deep breath and hard gulp. His eyes roam your body as he smirks, your face now in his hands, he says, “So you’re saying it’s love? True love?”
You throw your head back in laughter, “Yes, yes I’m saying it’s love. It’s true lov-.” With your final answer Theo interrupts you by feverishly placing his lips on yours. You don’t mind the interruption at all though.

Fighting Fate (It’s a losing battle)
Theodore Nott x gn!reader
Inspired by, and dedicated to @musingsofahufflepuff
Summary: soulmate!au in which everyone sees in black and white until they meet their soulmate. Bold of fate to assume it can tell you what to do.

Ever since your first day at Hogwarts, you’d been told that you were lucky. A one in a million chance. Exceptional. Because as soon as you’d been sorted, and the sorting hat had been lifted up off of your head, your eyes had met his, and the world had burst into color.
It had been wildly disorientating at first- you almost fainted from the visual overload as the banners over each section of students burst into bright color. As you went to take your seat, you got strange looks from several students, but you never felt his eyes leave you.
You’d always thought it was rubbish. Even at the ripe old age of eleven. Your mother had first explained the idea of soulmates to you as a bedtime story. You remember her explaining how everything looked bland and colorless now because you hadn’t met your soulmate yet. But once you did, the world would come to life.
“When will I meet my soulmate?” You’d asked.
“Well, that’s the catch isn’t it? It’s different for everyone. Some meet their soulmate very young. At school even. But some, some will never meet their soulmate. They can be anywhere in the world, fate doesn’t discriminate.”
You’d scrunched your little nose up in distaste.
“That’s stupid. Why do I have to listen to fate?”
Your mother had only laughed, tucking you in and kissing your forehead goodnight. But the sentiment had remained as you grew up. How could someone really just be meant for you? Ridiculous.
Theo had known that you were going to be his soulmate before fate did. He’d watched silently from his seat on the train as you boarded, a nervous grin on your face as you waved goodbye to your family. You were perfect, and he couldn’t take his eyes off of you. At least until Mattheo swatted his arm.
“What’re you staring at, mate?” He’d asked loudly, gaining the attention of the other boys in the carriage.
“See them, there?” Theo asked, pointing to where you were boarding. “That’s going to be my soulmate.” He’d announced proudly.
“Yeah, okay mate,” the other boys had laughed, quickly moving on to the next topic.
But Theo didn’t take his eyes off of you until you disappeared through the train doors and off into some unknown compartment.
The next time he saw you was at the sorting ceremony. He watched as you confidently made your way up to the front, the smile never leaving your face as McGonagall lowered the hat onto your head. It only took a few moments of deliberation before the hat was being lifted off of your head and Theo’s eyes met yours.
It was like the wind was taken out of him as the room sprung to life, colors swirling around his vision as his eyes raced around the room in awe.
By the end of the night, all of Theo’s friends had been sorted into Slytherin with him. Mattheo, Enzo, Draco, Blaise. Even Crabbe and Goyle.
“I was right on the train. About them being my soulmate,” he’d announced proudly, pointing out different objects and describing the different colors to his friends who wondered in amazement.
You on the other hand, didn’t speak a word of it to anyone until you accidentally let it slip to your mother over break that you could see the pretty colored ornaments strung up on the tree.
She’d been thrilled of course, wanting to know every detail about this soulmate of yours. What did he look like? What house was he? Had the two of you spoken.
You answered each question with less enthusiasm than the one prior, and eventually she got the point and stopped asking.
As soon as the news slipped that Theodore Nott, a child of the sacred twenty-eight, and son of Tiberius Nott no less, could see in color however, it didn’t take long for people to start noticing you. Telling you how lucky you were to have found your soulmate. To be able to see color. As if you wanted a soulmate at eleven years old.
The first few years it was easy to avoid. Being only eleven or twelve, Theo was content admiring you from a far. Third year was when the boy finally got the courage to really try and talk to you for the first time. Sure he’d said hi a few times over the past couple years, but nothing you’d found particularly note worthy. Especially not for someone who was supposedly your soulmate.
“Are you any good at charms?” A voice asks, startling you as you look up from the essay you had been finishing up in the court yard. It was a warm, cloudy day, with only a light breeze, so you’d thought it would be the perfect day to take your studies outside.
You stare up in surprise at the brunette boy in front of you, watching silently as he takes a seat across from you.
In the past, you'd played the avoiding game, quickly scurrying off if you saw the boy or his friends approaching. This year, you hadn't been taking the same precautions, and it seemed Theodore was taking full advantage.
“I’m alright,” you reply hesitantly.
That was a lie. Charms was your best subject, but you were hoping the boy might go away. He didn’t.
"I know that you're top of the class," he responds, staring intently at you with a sly smirk.
That afternoon you begrudgingly helped Theodore with his charms homework, and he happily helped you with your DADA essay. There wasn’t a whole lot of interaction between the two of you, but he wasn’t horrible you supposed. At least he had brain cells to rub together.
After that he kept popping up sporadically throughout your third year.
At quidditch tryouts he'd insisted on partnering with you for several of the drills. You both were offered a place on the team. In the Great Hall he'd seek you out to ask about the homework assignment he'd missed after skiving off of class with Mattheo. The fact that you gave him your notes each time meant nothing. Obviously. And every so often, between the shelves of books in the library, you'd see a flash of soft brown hair, and intense eyes gazing at you before they disappeared as if you were imagining it.
With each increasing encounter, the both of you made idle conversation as you kept the boy at an arms length. It was nothing personal really. In fact the more you thought about it, he seemed perfectly alright. But something in your stubborn thirteen year old self just wanted to stick it to fate. So you continued to ice the boy out.
Theodore however, was nothing if not determined. He knew from the moment he saw you that he was meant to be yours, and he’d be damned if he let you slip through his fingers. Thirteen year old Theodore was a stubborn bastard and he knew he was willing to play the long game.
Things grew a bit more complicated in fourth year when you became friends with some of the Slytherin crowd.
It had been an accident really. You’d been reading down by the Black Lake when Daphne Greengrass had stumbled upon you, followed closely by Pansy Parkinson and Lorenzo Berkshire.
“Oh!” she’d said in delight, seeing the book in your hands, “I love that book!”
The two of you ended up talking enthusiastically about the novel for almost an entire hour with Pansy and Enzo butting in every so often to add their thoughts.
“Wait, you’re Theodore’s soulmate aren’t you?” Enzo asks, eventually recognizing you.
You eye the boy cautiously as you nod slowly, suddenly feeling self conscious.
Pansy just wrinkles her nose.
“Sorry you got stuck with such a tosser.” She says.
The four of you are quiet for a moment before your laughter breaks the silence, the other three following shortly after.
After that, you’re integrated into their little group seamlessly. You’d always been a bit of a loner. Sure people would wander up to you often enough to chatter about what it was like to see colors, but that was really all people wanted to know about you. Like it was some trivial party trick.
It was nice having your own friends to study with and wander about Hogsmeade with on the weekends. It was nice to have people who liked being around you simply for being you. Not because some magical force had decided to bind you to a whole other human and grant you the ability to see color.
It didn’t take long for Theo to notice you hanging about more frequently. How could he not? You were so pretty. So smart and witty. So perfect. He was just so happy to have you around more often. Even if it wasn’t to spend time with him specifically.
He reveled in any little morsel of information that he could scrape up from your friends. Your favorite color, your favorite sweets at Honeydukes, your class schedule. Theo was willing to admit the last one was a bit weird, but he was really just hungry to learn anything he could about his elusive soulmate.
Soon enough, it didn’t become unusual for Theodore and Mattheo to join the four of you on your little excursions. Popping up at the Black Lake, or meeting up with you at the Three Broomsticks. He was just always there. As if he was making a point of it. And begrudgingly you began to let him in.
A friend of your friends was okay you thought. Wouldn’t hurt to get to know him a bit. That wasn’t crossing any lines.
For Theo however, this was huge. He was finally getting somewhere. Even if you weren’t ready for any sort of romantic relationship, he was going to be the best damn friend you’d ever had.
By fifth year, there was simply no denying it. Theodore Nott was your best friend. You weren’t really sure how it had happened. The two of you just fit so well together. He had truly wormed his way into your life.
It had started with the study sessions.
"Remember when you helped me with charms in third year?" He'd asked. "I got top marks on that assignment."
As those became more frequent, it had turned into afternoons by the lake with both of you deep in your own novels, but sharing the comfortable silence.
Then it had morphed into weekends at Hogsmeade. Your friends thought they were being subtle when they consistently slipped away, leaving you and Theo to wander about the village. You couldn't find it in yourself to mind though.
You’d tried to keep him at an arms length. You really had. But Enzo couldn’t make you laugh as hard as you did with Theo. And Daphne just wasn’t the intellectual match that Theo was. And Pansy always made sure you let loose sure, but being around Theo was just- freeing.
You still weren’t sold on the whole soulmate thing though. Sure Theo was great. Perfect even. But you just couldn’t shake the icky feeling of blindly trusting fate to decide your life.
Then it happened. No one was expecting it. Especially not Pansy. But you and Pansy and Draco and Theo had all been working late on a potions assignment before dinner, and on your way back up from the dungeons, Pansy ran smack into a certain platinum haired Ravenclaw. You’d later find out that her name was Luna Lovegood. As soon as their eyes met, Pansy stumbled, leaning into you for support. You already knew what was happening as her eyes darted around wildly.
“Oh. I suppose we’re soulmates then aren’t we?” The girl said, a dreamy look overtaking her.
It all seemed too easy for them after that. It was like a flip had switched and the two were just mad for each other. A picture perfect example of what soulmates should be.
You found it to be slightly horrifying how blindly trusting fate could severely change a person and their relationship with an essential stranger.
Theo however, couldn’t help but feel a tinge of jealousy. He had what? Almost five whole years on Pansy, and was lucky to get a friendly hug out of his soulmate. Yet Pansy and Luna were inseparable after only a few short weeks.
Not that Theo thought he was entitled to your affection necessarily. But it would be nice if you’d at least acknowledge the bond you two shared he thought.
“Why don’t you believe in soulmates?” Daphne asks one night.
It was one of those rare nights where it was only you, Daphne, Pansy, and Enzo huddled together wrapped in thick, warm blankets inside Daphne and Pansy’s dorm room. Salazar knows where Millicent was off spending her night. A bottle of shared fire whisky sat between you and packs of chocolate frogs littered the floor.
You blink in surprise at your friend’s question. You didn’t talk about soulmate stuff much.
“I do believe in them,” you say with a simple shrug.
“Yeah but you don’t really believe in them, ya know? Why?” She pushes.
You pause again, glancing at Pansy who was looking back at you intently.
“I don’t know. I guess I just don’t like the idea of someone deciding to be with me, just because they’re supposed to.” You say finally.
“I suppose I know what you mean.” Pansy murmurs after a moment.
You look at the girl in surprise and can tell the other two are shocked as well.
“Don’t get me wrong. I adore Luna. Really. I always tell her that I’m so glad that fate put us together. But then sometimes I wonder. If it weren’t for fate, would I have even given her a second glance that day I bumped into her in the corridor?”
There’s a silent lull as your group mulls over Pansy’s words before slowly drifting off to a new topic.
In another dorm, not so far off, Theo lay on his bed staring blankly up at the ceiling.
“Think they’ll come around soon?” Mattheo asks, sensing his roommate’s building tension.
“I dunno. But I’ll wait,” he replies, closing his eyes and letting images of you flood his mind. “They’re worth it.”
That night as you’re leaving to return to your dorm, Enzo catches your arm, pulling you off to the side.
“You can never tell Theo that I told you this, but the first time I met Theo, we were on the train waiting to leave for Hogwarts and he pointed out the window to a someone and said ‘they’re going to be my soulmate’. Then, at the sorting ceremony he got all dizzy all the sudden, and when we got to the common room, he said that he’d been right about who his soulmate would be. You. Just thought you should know.”
And with that, he’s gone.
It’s after that that you really begin to see Theo. You’d never really given him a fighting chance. But now, you kind of wanted to.
It’s the beginning of sixth year when Theo finally notices the shift. Notices you actually seeking him out on purpose, not flinching away when your hands brush, eyes hovering on his lips a bit too long for it to be accidental. And to say that he is ecstatic.
Meanwhile you were silently kicking yourself for taking so long to get over your petty bullshit with fate. Sure you still didn’t love the idea of it all, but after spending enough time with Theo, you could really, truly see the appeal.
After that night in fifth year, you began noticing how Theodore was one of the only students who could keep up with your academic prowess. He could always sense when you were tired, or stressed, or simply in a mood, and always did his best to subtly cheer you up. He was always there. Even after all the years you had put him through the wringer, he remained by your side. And that’s what really convinced you.
It’s also what landed you here, at the top of the astronomy tower, with your head in Theodore’s lap as his fingers raked gently through your hair.
It had become a usual meeting spot for the both of you. Theo had brought you up here a week into the school year starting. It was his safe place. His getaway when everything got to be too much, or when he just needed space to think. When those words had left his mouth you had melted. He trusted you. You had meant so much to him for so long, and you couldn't be bothered to give him the time of day.
“I’m sorry,” you mumble, eyes gazing out at the swirling navy sky that seemed to stretch on forever.
“For what, amore?”
“Dunno. Making you feel like you weren’t good enough, or makin you feel like a bad soulmate.”
Theo looks down at you, and you meet his steady gaze.
“I knew I was good enough, amore. We wouldn’t be soulmates if we weren’t perfect for each other.” He replies.
You perk up at this. “You think I’m perfect?” You ask, a dopey smile appearing on your face.
Theo just rolls his eyes, shaking his head as he laughs. He'd grown used to your antics. Just another piece of you that he'd grown fond of.
“I said that we’re perfect together. But you’re perfect too I suppose.”
It hadn’t taken nearly as long as you had expected to reach this point. It seemed that Theo had just been waiting for the word to switch on boyfriend mode. All it took was one spontaneous, heated make out session in his dorm room, and you had the boy wrapped around your finger. (He already had been for years, but you didn’t need to know that.)
“Alright. Wrap it up love birds. You better be fully clothed,” Pansy calls, head peeping up from the top of the staircase leading up to the tower. “You two have been up here for hours, and you can’t have them all to yourself Theodore. They were our friend first.”
“Yeah! Time’s up lover boy!” You hear Enzo call.
Theo groans, head falling back as he rises lazily, offering you a hand up.
“I waited five years for this, can’t you guys let me have my moment?” He calls back.
“No!” The chorus replies.
With a laugh, you grab onto Theo’s hand, tugging him towards the stairs.
“C’mon. If we get Mattheo and Enzo drunk enough, they won’t notice if I spend the night,” you say with a cheeky wink.
“I heard that!” Enzo’s voice rings out.
“You wouldn’t say no to me anyway,” you shout back.
With a smile, Theo follows you down the stairs after your rowdy friends, hand wrapped tightly around yours. It had taken him five long years, and he certainly wasn’t going to let go anytime soon.

GENRE: angst-ish (but not really)
CONTENT WARNING: soulmate & time travel au, english is not my first language

The air was thick; it smelled like blood and burning wood everywhere. The echoes of the battle were ringing faintly in the distance. Hidden away from the chaos, Severus Snape lay crumpled on the cold floor, his body slick with blood, life slipping away from him with each passing second.
Voldemort had left him to die, discarded like a broken tool. Nagini’s venom coursed through his veins, its poison cruelly efficient, and yet Snape’s eyes remained sharp. His gaze was fixated on Harry, standing just a few steps away, his face pale with shock and confusion. Snape’s focus wavered as he turned his eyes weakly, finding you—your form trembling as you knelt beside him, your heart shattering at the sight.
You might not have the best bond with a teacher like Snape, but never would you wish death upon someone.
“Take it… you both…” Snape rasped, his voice a whisper and urgent. Deep within his cloak, he pulled out one small vial and one small potion-like bottle. His hands shook as he reached for his own tear-streaked face. Slowly he collected the silvery drops that clung there, memories shimmering with an otherworldly glow.
Harry knelt down beside you now, watching in silence, his confusion giving way to a deeper understanding. Snape’s dark eyes locked into yours as he extended the vial towards you.
“You need to.. know the truth.”
Tears of your own spilled down your cheeks as you took the vial from his trembling hand. “You… were meant to change it all,” he whispered hoarsely.
“You can save him… save everyone. But only if you understand what must be done, the sacrifices you’ll have to make.”
The weight of the vial suddenly felt heavier than before, as you sat beside Snape’s lifeless body, his final words echoing in your mind.
Harry’s face was pale and grief-stricken. His eyes met yours and for a moment, neither of you spoke.
“We have to go,” Harry said, his voice hoarse, snapping you out of your daze. He looked down at the vial of silvery liquid in your hand. “The Pensieve. We need to see what he left for us.”
“Yeah,” was the only thing you could mutter out, your throat tight with a mixture of fear and urgency. Without another word, both of you scrambled to your feet.
Fires flickered in the distance, casting eerie shadows across the grounds and hallways as the final battle raged on.
Harry led the way, his steps quick, with you right behind him, clutching the vial so tightly in your hand that you thought it might shatter at any given moment.
“We have to hurry,” he urged over his shoulder. “Whatever’s in these memories, it’s important. Snape wouldn’t have—” his voice caught in his throat.
You only nodded, your mind spinning with Snape's last words. “You can save him… but only if you know what must be done.”
Save who? Harry? Voldemort? Was there a part of Tom Riddle still left inside the monster he had become? And how were you connected to him? Why you in the first place?
You reached the stone gargoyle guarding the entrance to Dumbledore's office. Harry barely paused to spit out the password.
“Sherbet lemon!”
The gargoyle sprang to life, and the two of you rushed up the spiral staircase, out of breath.
Dumbledore's office had a heavy scent of old parchment and burning candle wax filling the air. You and Harry stood side by side, breathing heavily from the sprint through the castle. The weight of the vial, now emptied, felt almost meaningless in your hands. Your heart pounded in your chest.
Harry held your gaze briefly, his eyes filled with an emotion you couldn't quite place. “Let's do this,” he said, his voice straining slightly. You nodded in return, your throat too tight to speak. Together, you leaned over the Pensieve, letting yourselves be pulled into the swirling memories.
The world around you started shifting, and suddenly, you were in the same office, just a few things placed differently.
Before you could take in your surroundings further, you noticed him—Severus Snape, somewhat younger, his dark hair still hanging around his face. You and Harry exchanged a look. Snape stood rigid before Dumbledore's desk, his expression (as always) unreadable.
“This is madness, Albus,” Snape spat, his voice low and venomous. “You're going to send her back in time, knowing she will not be able to return? She will be trapped there—forever. A time-turner cannot help her.”
Dumbledore leaned back in his chair, a quill in his hand as he gazed at Snape with a somber, almost mournful expression. “I understand your anger, Severus, but there is no other way.”
You took note of how Snape looked younger but not that much younger. You saw the gash in his leg and guessed this would've taken place during first year.
“She doesn't know, does she?” Snape's voice cut off your train of thought. “No, she does not,” Albus replied softly. “And it is better that way, for now.”
'She'—that was you. This memory was about you. You felt your heart skip a beat.
“You're asking her to do the impossible—to change him. Tom Riddle cannot be saved. He was already lost when you met him in the orphanage.”
“Perhaps,” Dumbledore replied. “But she must try. If there is even the smallest chance to alter the course of his soul, it is through her.”
Snape gave a slight scoff. “If she is to succeed, she must know everything!” You never realized how much he cared for you and your friends.
“But you told her nothing of this?”
Dumbledore's eyes flickered towards the parchment in front of him. “When the time is right, she shall know what to do.” Dumbledore sighed, rising from his chair. “And do not worry, she will know, Severus, but not before the right time.”
Snape's face twisted in frustration. “And if she fails? What then?”
“Her connection to Tom Riddle is delicate, and should she go back into the past with full knowledge, it could endanger everything. The balance between them is fragile,” Dumbledore explained.
Harry's hand clenched beside you, his breath quickening. “Go back in time?” he whispered, echoing the questions that were swirling in your own mind. Snape turned sharply, “You're asking too much of her,” he said through gritted teeth. “Sending her back in time, to Tom Riddle's fifth year... If she doesn't succeed in making him—”
“—experience love,” Dumbledore finished. “Love is the key, Severus.” You felt as though the ground had dropped out from beneath you. Tom Riddle—love? That would be impossible. Is this what Dumbledore had planned for you all along? To go back into the past, to love a young Tom Riddle before he became Lord Voldemort?
“How... how could anyone make Riddle love someone?” you whispered to Harry.
“You are condemning her to live out her days in a time that's not her own! She won't even be able to return! You've bound her to the past,” Snape stressed.
The headmaster's gaze grew sharper, though there was still that calm weight behind it. “She is connected to Tom Riddle in ways we cannot fully understand. If there is hope for him, it lies in her hands—her influence. But no, Severus, she cannot come back. The magic involved in sending her back is... irreversible.”
“You will send her to a monster! To a boy who will grow to become the Dark Lord,” Snape sneered. "What happens if she doesn't succeed in her task?”
Dumbledore's eyes closed for a moment. “If she cannot reach him... if his heart remains as closed as it is now, then yes, Voldemort will rise like he did. And our fate is sealed.”
Snape looked up at him. “You truly believe she can save him?”
Dumbledore's eyes glinted, the faintest trace of hope dancing behind them. “I believe she is the only one who can.” His voice dropped to a whisper, “She will remain in that time. She will live there, bound to the past...”
After the sensation finally stopped, you and Harry found yourselves back in the present. The glow of the Pensieve slowly faded, leaving only the silence of the room.
You stood frozen for a moment, trying to process what you had just witnessed — the conversation between Snape and Dumbledore. The weight of it hung heavy in the air, pressing down on you both.
“If you go, you can't come back,” Harry whispered, almost to himself, as though saying it out loud would make it reality. His face was pale. “Once you go back into Riddle's time... you're stuck there. Forever.”
“And if I fail...” your voice shook as the truth finally settled in. “If I can't change him, you'll have to battle him. Harry, you'll die.”
His eyes snapped to yours, and for a moment, he seemed as lost as you were. He ran a hand through his hair, pacing in front of Dumbledore's desk. “I don't understand, Dumbledore... Snape... they planned all of this—” he stopped, turning to face you. “How are you supposed to change Tom Riddle?”
You shook your head. “I don't know, Harry. I don't know how I'm supposed to make him love or... stop him from becoming Voldemort. What if I can't even do it?”
Harry stepped toward you, his expression softening, though his own fear was palpable. “You've faced worse, right? You've fought Death Eaters. You survived this war with us. If anyone can do it, it's you,” Harry finished saying. “But I hate that it has to be you.”
The weight of his words hung between the two of you.
“I don't—Dumbledore said we were connected somehow, that we're soul-bound, basically... but what if that's not enough?”
Harry's jaw tightened, frustration breaking through his calm. “It's unfair! It's always unfair with him!” Harry raised his arms. “He expects too much. First me, now you! He's always asking us to make these impossible choices.”
You nodded, and your heart ached at Harry's raw emotion. “I can't let you die, Harry,” you stated softly. “I can't stand by and watch that happen.”
He shook his head fiercely, stepping closer so his hands gripped your shoulders. “And I can't let you go back in time, knowing you'll never come home.”
For a moment, the two of you stood like that, caught between the devastating choice laid before you. You could feel the pull of what needed to be done.
“If this is the only way, then we'll find a way to make it work. We'll figure out how to change him, how to make him love. We'll do it together,” Harry nodded, sure of his plan.
You smiled through tears. “Harry, once I go, I'll be alone.”
His grip tightened on your shoulders. “You won't be alone. You've never been alone in this. You'll have everything we've ever fought for — the memories. And more than that... you'll have hope.”
Tears were threatening to leave your eyes, but you swallowed them back. You nodded at Harry.
Harry took the small potion out of his jacket pocket. The liquid inside was an ethereal, shimmering gold, glowing faintly in the dim of the room. The potion, the one that would send you back in time — and trap you there.
Your hands shook as you took the potion from Harry. The glass felt cold in your palm. The moment had come, and it was terrifying. Once you drank it, you knew there would be no turning back, no returning to the world and people you once knew. No more friends, no more future. Only the past, which would become your future.
Harry shifted beside you. “Are you sure about this?” he asked, his voice low. There was a plea in his words, though he wasn't trying to stop you. He couldn’t. He knew as well as you did that this was the only way.
“I don't have a choice,” you whispered back, your voice shaking. You gave him a small nod, though your heart still pounded in your chest. You uncorked the bottle. The faint scent of something sweet filled the air. The liquid seemed almost alive, swirling around.
You took one last look at Harry, locking in the image of his face — strong, determined, your best friend. This might be the last time you'd ever see him.
“I'll miss you,” you whispered, barely able to say the words. Harry's eyes glistened, but he gave a small, resolute nod. “I'll miss you too.”
With a final breath, you raised the vial to your lips. The liquid was warm, surprisingly smooth as it slid down your throat. At first, it didn't feel like anything was happening, but then the warmth began to spread, starting in your chest and slowly moving through your body.
The world around you started to blur, and a dizzying sensation took over. Harry's voice was distant now, “It's happening.”
Your vision blurred, and you could feel time itself shifting, bending, pulling you away from the present and hurling you backward into the past.
It was overwhelming, as though your existence was being unraveled and re-made on a different planet. You feared you might lose yourself entirely.
And then, everything came to a hurtling stop. The warm feeling of the potion faded, replaced by a cool, crisp breeze against your skin. You opened your eyes, heart still pounding, and took in your surroundings.
It felt so familiar, yet completely different. Hogwarts stood tall, the grounds more pristine, untouched by the war, by the battles you had grown so accustomed to. The castle's windows shimmered, and the air smelled fresh.
At last, you found yourself in the past.

Soul-mate. Soul-mate. Soul-mate.
Your heart beat in time with the words you'd been hearing all week long, unable to shake the excitable feeling that comes with approaching your sixteenth birthday.
Sweet sixteen held a meaning within teenagers, but a different one for magical teens such as yourself.
Having seen colours all your life, you were only partially prepared to lose sight of them all. You remembered Pansy's sixteenth, when she'd come downstairs crying.
"MY BI FLAG LOOKS LIKE SOME WEIRD ASS STRAIGHT FLAG!" She had sobbed, and you had comforted her until Astoria came into the room, and suddenly colours were visible again.
Your other friends weren't quite as lucky. Mattheo was unable to see colours, he stated plainly, while Theodore vehemently denied being able to see any colours at all. Just fifty shades of grey.
Draco was the youngest of the boys, and hadn't yet had his sixteenth. Blaise however was lucky, having been passing Ravenclaw dorm at the same time as a certain Luna Lovegood the week after his birthday.
And now here you were, in the week leading up to your birthday, saying your final goodbyes to colours.
"I'm going to miss seeing brown." You said idly as you fiddled with a blanket, lying across a couch in the Slytherin common room.
Draco snorted. "You'll miss brown? Why? It's such a boring colour." You sat up, indignant. "It's not. Cinnamon, trees in autumn, gingerbread, old vinyls, paper, vintage cars, antique bookshelves..." You listed, and a smile quirked at the corner of Theodore's mouth as he read.
"I think I'm just going to miss all the colours." You confessed.
"Our little Augophile." Blaise chuckled. You gave him a confused look. "Someone who loves colours." You thought for a second. "Sounds about right." You grinned.
The corner of Theo's mouth quirked again, but he looked back down to his book.
"I don't know if I'm ready." You said, sighing. The atmosphere of the room shifted instantly. "What do you mean?" Pansy said, unsticking herself from Astoria for a second.
"I mean I'm nervous. What if we're too similar? What if I hate them?" You said, stressing. "What if they hate me? WHAT IF IT'S DRACO." You yelled the last part, horrified. The others laughed.
Draco grimaced. "Thanks, l/n." You smiled. "Any time ferret." He glared at you, but you were too busy spiralling.
"What do you want in a soulmate anyway, y/n?" Lorenzo asked, looking mildly curious.
"Umm... nice, able to cook, ideally he'd be able to read, but given people like Crabbe and Goyle go to this school, that's not a guarantee..." You said, recieving a laugh. "My friends need to like him, and he needs to be willing to defend me." You said, finishing. (DON'T. MINDS OUT OF THE GUTTER.)
"So... the bare minimum?" Mattheo said sarcastically. "Omg, babe, the bare minimum? You shouldn't have..." He rolled his eyes, laughing.
"I'm just kind of praying to a spiritual thing or whatever that they're not an asshole. That would suck." You said, fiddling with your hair.
Theo gently pulled your hand away from your hair. "You'll make your hair greasy." He said, not looking up.
You smiled and turned back to the conversation. "Look, y/n, I find it unlikely that the universe would give someone like you a bad person as a soulmate. I mean, that would be like you and me being together. Or you and Theo. It just wouldn't work." Mattheo said, shaking his head with a smirk.
"Right?!" You said, laughing softly. Theo stiffened slightly, unnoticed by everyone but the elder Riddle, who sat back reading a muggle book you had leant him.
You noticed Tom's smirk and turned to look at him. "What's on your mind Tomothy?" You said, smiling.
"Just Tom is fine, n/n. And I am merely amused by two characters in this story. Neil and Todd I believe? The two of them seem... rather well matched." Tom said idly. You smiled as Mattheo craned his neck to look at the book.
"Dead Poet's society?" He said, wrinkling his nose. "How do they write if they're dead? Ghosts don't have a present form to write with..." He frowned.
You laughed. "They don't write the poetry. Well, they do, but later on. They're obsessed with a poet called John Keats." Mattheo interrupted you.
"Sounds boooring, I don't wanna know." He said, groaning. Tom rolled his eyes as your smile faltered slightly. Theo noted that.
"I want to know." He said, placing his book carefully to the side, 'The secret history'.
You smiled. He had no idea what he was getting into.
You then spent the next two hours explaining the plot of dead poets to Theodore, who was, surprisingly, an avid listener. He asked questions in the right place, and although his expression didn't say much, he didn't move away or interrupt you, so you assumed he was interested.
"So... to be clear, they were never actually together, but you wish Neil and Todd were?" Theodore concluded. You nodded, brushing tears away from your eyes. A sniffle was heard from behind you, and you turned to see Lorenzo wiping his eyes with a tissue.
"My poor little homosexuals..." He said, looking genuinely sad. You and Theo exchanged a look, trying to work out if he was serious or not, which apparently he was, as you found out later. Theo awkwardly patted his back, trying to console him to the best of his ability.
You giggled to yourself, picking up your book and heading upstairs.
Theodore called after you. "Y/N!"
You turned, looking back at him from the steps to your dorm. "Yeah?"
"You're coming to the match tomorrow right?" He said hesitantly. "Gryffindor versus Slytherin. Matt's been pushing us hard, should be a good game." He continued, trying to gauge your reaction.
You nodded, smiling. "Oh yeah. I'll be there." You said, waving before you headed up to bed.
Theodore smiled to himself, before picking up his book again. You'd be there.
"TEN POINTS TO SLYTHERIN!" Lee Jordan's voice rang out across the stadium, amplified by his magical megaphone. You looked on excitedly as Enzo scored another goal for Slytherin, taking the lead from Gryffindor.
Gryffindor were clearly starting to get slightly worried, and their new beaters, Kirke and Sloper were clearly losing their nerve. They needed a distraction from the game, to give Gryffindor a lead.
They needed to take out someone who the entire Slytherin team would care about enough to stop the game for a moment.
They needed to take out you.
Throughout the game, Theodore's eyes flickered to you, making sure you were still watching. And every time he looked, there you were, eyes trained on the game and a happy smile on your face.
Theodore batted a bludger at Ginny Weasley, which Sloper deflected perfectly... until it wasn't perfect anymore.
The bludger came speeding towards you, too fast for you to move.
There was a sickening crunch, and then everything went black.
one week later
"-Mr Nott you need to leave, she needs rest and she'll probably be rather disorentated when she wakes-"
"-I don't care, I'm not leaving her like this."
"Huh?" You mumbled, eyes fluttering slightly before they opened a fraction.
A face swam into vision, looking down at you with a concerned frown. You felt a flash of something in your chest, and then the face came into colour.
"Careful, Mr Nott, she will be emotionally fragile after such damage." The woman's voice tutted as she bustled away.
It took you a minute of squinting to bypass the amnesia before a name came to you.
"Teddy?" You mumbled, and the figure rolled their eyes with a small smile.
"You haven't called me that since we were eight, y/n." The figure said, sitting back in the chair beside the hospital bed you were apparently in.
Right, y/n... that must be you. 'Teddy' frowned.
"Yes it's you, why wouldn't you be y/n?" He said, looking concerned, and you realised you had spoken aloud.
"She probably has some level of amnesia, from her head injury. She's also on a lot of pain meds, and may be a little honest." The lady said, bustling away near you. Teddy's mouth set into a hard line.
"Quel maledotto idiota. Non guarda dove sta colpendo quella dannata cosa, no, la colpisce semplicemente ovunque gli piaccia dannatamente." He grumbled, pinching the bridge of his nose as he lapsed into his mothertongue. (That fucking idiot. He doesn't look where he's hitting the damn thing, no, he just hits it wherever he damn well pleases)
"Uh, sorry, I don't speak Ravioli." You said, peering up at him curiously. "What did you say?"
"It doesn't matter." He said, shaking his head. "What do you remember from Saturday?" He said, looking at you intently.
You wrestled with your brain for a moment, trying to bypass your amnesia. "I remember walking to the quidditch stadium... and watching you. You were very good." You said absent mindedly, not noticing how that surprised him.
"I didn't know you were watching me particularly tesoro." He smirked, and you frowned. That name had stirred something in you... THEO! That was his name.
"I always do, I don't want any of you guys to get hurt, you're my best friends." You said, seeming confused as Theo's smirk dropped.
Right. Of course you wouldn't be watching just him. That would have been ridiculous. So why did he feel disappointed?
"But that's all I remember. What else happened?" You said, looking interested.
Theo hesitated. Did he tell you? Aw what the hell, you were going to find out anyway.
"You were watching the game with Pansy when an unnamed beater on the Gryffindor team threw a hissy fit and hit a bludger at you. I say unnamed because although I know exactly who it was that hit it, I couldn't be bothered to learn his name. Perhaps you can identify him?" Theo nodded towards a figure lying in a bed a few beds down to your right.
You craned your neck to see. They seemed to have a broken nose, and several bruises covering their face, making them look like some strange purple smurf.
"The grumpy lady said I have amnesia right? So honestly, given he looks like a bruised potato, I have no idea who that is." You said, smiling slightly, before looking again, this time noticing the patients name written on a get well soon card.
"Actually, now that you mention it, a name does come to mind... A Jack Sloper I think?"
Theo frowned, looking at the boy again. "If he's that recognisable, Tom and I clearly didn't do a good enough job."
You giggled. "It's on his card, Teddy. His get well soon card. He probably needs all the well wishes he can get, given his current state."
Theo's lip twitched, and you saw a hint of a smile. "Glad to be of service." You smiled, which then flipped into a frown. "But... the scottish lady... what's her name... Old MacDonald?" At that Theodore laughed, a deep laugh that was all all too rare noise.
"McGonagall, y/n." You beamed. "Right, thanks!" He shook his head, smiling at you. "Anyway, McGonagall, there's no way she let you get away with this." At that, Theo winced.
"That bad huh?" He grimaced, and you braced for impact. "Two months detention." He said, shaking his head. You sighed. "Not expelled then." Theo looked shocked. "God no tesoro, she was rather sympathetic to my cause actually." You straightened. "Which was?"
Theo frowned. "He hurt you y/n, I couldn't just let him get away with no repercussions." You looked confused. "You didn't beat up that Hufflepuff guy when he broke our blonde friends name..." You searched for a name, racking your brain.
"Astoria, and I won't tell her you forgot her name, lest she murder you in cold blood." Theo chuckled lowly. You smiled gratefully, then remembered your question. "So, why'd you beat up Sloper and not the Hufflepuff when he hurt Astoria?" You asked softly, fiddling with your pale cream bedsheets.
"Perché Astoria non sei tu." He rolled his eyes. (Because Astoria isn't you.)
You frowned. "There you go again with the ravioli. What's special about me? I can't mean much more than her." Theo hesitated, as if he'd made a mistake. "You're not special. I've just known you longer, you're an obligation, not a choice, y/n." He replied, voice slightly cold.
That hurt, and he saw it in your face, internally cursing himself. This is why it was stupid to be close to you, he'd just end up hurting you with stupid words and silly lies and ridiculous promises.
"I know. Don't worry." You whispered, eyes roving over the vibrant colours of the flowers on Sloper's bedside. "But you don't need to fight for me, Theo." Unknowingly, that hurt Theo.
You'd said you wanted a soulmate who would defend you, and now that he'd done it for you, you were saying you didn't need him to. Clearly you didn't want him to be like your ideal soulmate. You didn't want him. And not only that, he was Theo again. Not Teddy. Just Theo, what everyone else called him. Well, everyone else he cared even a little for.
"I know, don't worry." He replied coldly, standing and leaving. You felt horrible. He'd fought for you, risked his safety, and you'd rebuked him. You hoped he wasn't too upset over it. Something in you felt wrong when he was upset.
He came back in after a moment. "Y/N, I'm sorry." He sighed. "This has probably been a lot for you. And I know what you're saying, don't feel bad. I gotta go to detention though, okay Tesoro? I'll see you later solare." He kissed your forehead and then left. And everything felt better. (Darling, sunshine)
A month had passed since you were freed from the jail of the hospital wing and you were flying high, except for the fact that you had hardly seen Theo, given his two months detention. You missed your best friend, least of all because of the major crush you'd been harbouring for a year or so.
You had been reminded of the existence of soulmates, but were still not sure how people knew they were soulmates, and hadn't wanted to ask for fear of being thought stupid. Unfortunately, you were about to find out. Or, think so.
"Y/N!" A voice called after you as you walked out of class. You span, and noticed Cormac McLaggen watching you with an unreadable expression.
"Yeah?" You replied uncertainly.
"Can I talk to you for a moment? It's really important." He called. You nodded carefully, following him.
"I know this must come as a shock, but we're soulmates." You started. "What?" You were confused.
"I know, it shocked me too, I had no idea, it doesn't feel real. I'm so happy, though. I knew we were meant to be together." He said excitedly, smirking. "How... How do you know?" You asked, trying to look indifferent.
"Well, I know you forgot how soulmates work, but the man in the relationship can always tell. You feel this weird pull towards her, and then you just know. I know you can feel it too." He said, so convincingly.
You looked at him. He looked so convinced, so excited. How could you tell him you couldn't feel it? "Yes, I feel it." You said, trying to sound convinced. He looked surprised for a second, before his face relaxed. "Good, good! So, can I take you out?"
You thought for a second. He was your soulmate after all. "Okay, sure." You put on a bright smile.
"Awesome, meet me in Hogsmeade this weekend then." He said, walking away. Was that it? Your soulmate? You thought it would be more. A magical flash of light, some weird pull... but nothing. But he was. He was. So you would push through.
(A month later)
You were in your dorm bathroom with Pansy and Astoria, getting ready for a date with Cormac. He wasn't a perfect soulmate, but he was okay? Right? He forced you to spend an awful lot of time with him. As a result, you'd barely seen your friends since he spoke to you the first time. As for Theo... you hadn't seen him properly since the hospital wing, besides a few group hangouts, due to his detention, which had finally ended tonight. And you missed him.
"-Y/N!" A voice called you and you snapped out of your thoughts. "Hmm? Yes sorry?"
"I was asking how it felt for you when you first saw colours again. You know, when you first looked at McLaggen." Astoria said, smiling.
You frowned. "What?" Pansy looked confused.
"You know, when you look at your soulmate, and the colour comes back into your life after the grey." Pansy said, trying to prompt your memory. "Maybe your memory still isn't all there." She said sympathetically.
"When you turned sixteen, you would have lost the ability to see colours for a bit, until you saw McLaggen." Astoria explained, smiling. "I was asking how it felt for you to see colours again."
You froze, tensing up. You had been able to see colours before you see Cormac. You had been able to see colours way before then. Oh god. Why had Cormac lied to you?
"Y/N? So, how'd it feel?" You jerked back into consciousness. "Umm, yeah, it felt good." You said, and realised they were watching you. You noticed your expression had dropped and upped the wattage of your smile. That put them off for a little, at least until you were gone.
You decided to wait near the library, which was where Cormac had said he'd meet you. Let the waiting begin. As you waited, you began to wonder. Was Cormac even your soulmate like he said he was? He'd have no reason to lie about that. And even so, if you'd always been able to see colours, maybe your soulmate was dead? That made sense. Maybe your soulmate was dead, and Cormac knew, so he replaced him.
You frowned. That was ridiculous, nearly Aaron Warner level delusional. And McLaggen still wasn't there for you to ask.
And little did you know, he wouldn't be for quite a while.
Theo's POV
Finally, a night without detention. It had been a seriously long time since he'd had a free night, and he revelled in it. Not that it hadn't been worth it, Sloper would be much careful with his bat now, and he'd managed to get an apology to you. Not without Theo threatening him though and Tom glaring at him ominously.
Although having to babysit a load of excitable and enthusiastic first years was not the way anybody would want to spend every Tuesday. How were they so happy? And enthusiastic? And not absolutely drowning in homework? No, Theo couldn't understand it. But hey, they were at least invested in learning chess, which he taught them with great patience. Tom, not so much.
He had been asked to tutor second years, and reduced a poor Ravenclaw girl to tears, earning him another additional day of detention.
Theo slid down onto a couch in the common room with Blaise to his left. Dracp clapped him on the back, grinning. "Welcome back to having a social life, Nott." Theo grimaced slightly, but let a smile grace his face.
"Catch me up then, what did I miss?" He said, trying to seem nonchalant, when in reality, he was dying to know the castle gossip. Not that he'd ever tell Pansy and Astoria, they'd hound him for eternity.
"Umm... let me think. Oh yeah, so, Anna Dbrovnik in 7th year had a pregnancy scare, but it was okay because it turned out she hadn't even had sex, Lavender Brown has a crush on Ron Weasley, and Y/N and Cormac McLaggen started dating." Astoria reeled off, noticing Theo's face harden and him sit up at her last words.
"What?" He said lethally quietly. "Oh yeah, turns out he's her soulmate, which none of us really saw coming, and now they're going out. Weird right?" Pansy continued brightly, obviously aware of what she'd just done.
"I didn't know it was possible to have two soulmates." Theo said quietly. Seven heads turned his way. "Alright man, what the flip?" Said Lorenzo, earning a badly disguised giggle from Mattheo.
"Y/N's my soulmate, and now I find out I have to share her with McLaggen?" Theo spat bitterly. Some cruel trick of nature. "That's not possible. Everyone only has one soulmate, it's written into the laws of the universe or something." Tom said, trying to appear indifferent.
"So that means either you're lying, which I doubt, or McLaggen is. WHAT A LITTLE WHORE!" Astoria screeched, furious on your behalf. "Alright, calm down babe." Pansy grabbed her shoulders, pulling Astoria back and kissing her head.
"I WILL NOT BE SILENT! SOME UGLY GRYFFINDOR HOE HAS DECIEVED MY BEST FRIEND!" Astoria said, voice raising in decibels with each syllable.
Pansy thought for a second, and then realised something. "She already knows."
There was a sharp intake of breath from several people, before Blaise asked the all important question. "How do you know?"
Pansy slid down onto the sofa. "She froze up when we asked her how it felt to find out McLaggen was her soulmate. We mentioned the whole colours thing and she looked so confused, she clearly didn't know that that's how it works. How did we not see that?" Pansy groaned.
Theo coughed. "So... if she knew he wasn't her soulmate and knew he'd been lying to her, why did she still go to him?" He said, trying to douse the flame burning in his chest with water.
"Knowing Y/N, that's not going to be a date for her, it's going to be a confrontation." Draco smirked. The water became gasoline, the fire burning it's way through his body before reaching his brain and shocking him into motion.
"I have to tell Y/N. I have to at least talk to her, even if she rejects me." Theo said, standing quickly. Pansy scoffed. "Yeah, as if she's about to reject you." Astoria giggled, and Theo froze.
"What?"
Theo, you're almost as blind as Astoria without contacts." Astoria stopped giggling and glared at her girlfriend, who gave her an apologetic look. "Y/N's had an itty bitty massive crush on you since you were kids, Theo." Pansy said, rubbing his shoulder sympathetically. "So don't screw this up, or we'll all hit you to Pluto." She said brightly. Theo turned to the group.
"That true? You'd all hit me to Pluto if I hurt her?" There was a collective silence, and Theo exhaled. "Wow, thanks guys." He said sarcastically.
"I'd only hit you to mars, but that's because of cracky joints." Enzo offered. Theo rolled his eyes, standing and leaving the common room, speed walking down corridors to try and find you.
"WRONG WAY! SHE'S AT THE LIBRARY!" Pansy called after him. He flushed, before turning and running the correct way.
...
Your POV
You had been waiting just under half an hour for McLaggen, with him still no show. You sighed quietly, before beginning to walk away from the library, wandering aimlessly towards the Gryffindor common room to try check on him.
You had barely got a corridor away when McLaggen appeared infront of you, chest heaving and out of breath. "GOT- HELD- UP- WITH- UH... HOMEWORK!" He wheezed, catching his breath. Your eyes quickly roved over him, taking in his appearance. You noticed his half done belt, and a lipstick print on his ruffled collar, his rumpled shirt.
You didn't have to be a Ravenclaw to work that one out. But instead of feeling upset, or angry, or mad.. you felt nothing. Maybe a little disappointed, given you thought he was better than that, but honestly? Recent events had dissipated the few shreds of respect you still had for him.
"Yes, I'm sure homework can be incredible distracting." You said quietly. He didn't appear to notice. "Right so, shall we go?" He said presumptuously. You shook your head.
"Actually, I wanted to talk to you." You said nervously. He groaned. "Y/N, you talk too much, we'll be late." He said, rolling his eyes, gripping your wrist and attempting to pull you along. A few students looked on at this. You bit back a retort, wrenching your wrist from his grip.
"Why'd you tell me we're soulmates?" You asked carefully. He turned, shock evident on his face as his hand became clammy. "Because we are, babe. Come along now." He said through gritted teeth. You shook your head vehemently, as Theodore and a few of your other friends came around the corner, out of breath, Theodore in front.
"I could see colours before I saw you. You took advantage of me, and you lied to me. I want to know why." You took a step closer, glaring at him.
He took a step back, a smirk crossing his face, which you felt a burning urge to slap. "Calm it, Y/N, or I'll think you're confused. You sure you don't need to see madam Pomfrey?" He said in mock sympathy, obviously trying to get a laugh out of his audience. No-one laughed.
Theo stepped forward, coming to stand beside you. "You can do this, Tesoro. Don't let him gaslight you." He whispered to you. You smiled. Cormac frowned.
"What are you saying to her?" He glared.
"I'm telling her the best way to dismember you without getting caught." Theo deadpanned, smirking at you with that signature look of his. You grinned up at him, and Tom raised an eyebrow. "You're talking about method five right?" He said, frowning.
Theo rolled his eyes. "I was being sarcastic, but yes, if I was to tell her I'd use that one." Tom nodded and returned to his position against the wall.
"You're being stupid, Y/N. You know I'm your soulmate, so stop being so ridiculous." He scoffed, pulling you towards him. Theo gently pulled you back, pulling McLaggen's hands off of you with such force that he winced.
"You don't touch her, Signor Piccolo Cazzo." Theo taunted, glaring. He pushed you behind him. "You don't get to walze in here, gaslight her and act like she's the problem. È incredibile e tu non meriti di pulirle le scarpe." (Mr Small dick) (She's incredible, and you are not worth of wiping her shoes.)
McLaggen clenched his fists, clearly not knowing what Theo was saying, but getting the gist of it. "Look it's none of your goddamn business Nott, just fuck off back to your own country." You started at that, walking forward and slapping him across the face. Cormac reeled.
"FUCK Y/N? WHY WOULD YOU HIT YOUR SOULMATE?" He yelled, clearly playing the victim. No-one came to help him.
"She's not your fucking soulmate." Theo said, lethally quiet. You were surprised. How did he know that?
"YOU CAN'T PROVE THAT NOTT, CAN YOU? HOW DO YOU KNOW?" McLaggen taunted him. And that was Theo's breaking point.
"BECAUSE SHE'S MY SOULMATE. SHE'S MEANT TO BE MINE, AND I'M FUCKING HERS, AND MERLIN DAMN ME IF I LET A STRONZO LIKE YOU STEAL HER HEART." Theo exploded, towering over McLaggen.
You froze. Looking at Theo. Looking at McLaggen. Looking at Theo. Him looking at you.
"It's you."
It wasn't a question. It was barely a statement. It was a truth, unknown until now.
"Whatever. You were a fucking bet anyway." Cormac said, rolling his eyes. At that, Theo turned, and you gripped his wrist, pulling him away from McLaggen.
"I don't want you to get in trouble." You whispered to him.
"Solare, right now I couldn't care less." He murmured to you. You smiled, shaking your head. "I don't think we need to do anything." You gestured to a furious Ravenclaw girl.
"You said you'd broken up." She glared at Cormac. "Y/N, girl, I swear I wouldn't have gone near him if I'd known you were still together." She said, turning to you apologetically. You shook your head, smiling.
"Don't worry." She smiled gratefully, before her friends dragged him off, no doubt to violently insult him.
You turned back to Theo, before you hugged him tightly. He started, before he wrapped you into a hug, putting his chin on your head. (Before someone says something about being a pick me short girl, I'm literally 5'2 irl lol I'm basing this off of my height and experiences (or lack of)
"So..." You whispered, looking up at him. He smiled down at you, that small smile reserved only for you.
"I know." He exhaled.
"Why didn't you tell me? It's not like you didn't have time, hell, you must have known like eight months?" You said, upset.
"I wanted you to come to me because you like me, not because we habe some soul connection. And I was pretty sure I was the last guy around that you'd want as your soulmate. When you described your ideal soulmate, you said someone willing to defend you, and when I did, you told me I didn't need to. I was confused, Bella." He said desperately.
"I told you you didn't need to because I hate seeing you hurt! It physically pains me, Teddy." Theo tightened his hold on you at that. "I really really care about you Theo, and that's probably because I'm desperately in love with you." You said, cheeks warming as you looked down. "You feel right. And you were the first thing I saw when I woke up, which is why I was always able to see colours." You realised.
You felt a hand on your chin, tilting your face up before a pair of lips met your forehead. Then your nose. Then each of your cheeks. The corner of your mouth. And finally, your lips.
Your first kiss with Theo was everything you had imagined in your little daydreams before bed to help you fall asleep. Except, this time, your brain hadn't just skipped to the good part, you had actually gone through and experienced all the build up. And god was it worth it.
He pulled back after a moment, and your lips chased his, eliciting a chuckle from him as he kissed you back.
"I love you like you are my oxygen. My sunshine." He murmurs to you, holding you close and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You giggled.
"We've both been such idiots." You whispered, smiling.
"Thank god Pansy told me you love me or this would have been mortifying." He smirked, laughing lowly. You gasped.
"PANSY!" You struggled against the hands around your waist, attempting to get to her. "THEO- LET- ME- GO!" You glared at your soulmate as he chuckled.
"Much as I'd love to see you try fight, love, I don't want you to hurt your friends." You glared. "WHY?!"
"You'd be sad in the morning." He said, smiling.
"Seriously? That's your only objection?" Pansy looked unimpressed.
Theo shrugged. "If it makes her happy." He smiled down at you, where you had given up in your attempts to escape and were relaxing back into his warmth.
"Damn you and your stupid perfectness." You whispered to him, , and he leaned down and kissed you until you were smiling again.

what do you think about soulmate au with either Theo or Mattheo thanks!!
It's currently 1 am here but considering that this is my alone time and i'm also bored, i will absolutely do this! i hope you like it!
soulmate au!hot and cold
pairings: theodore nott x reader
genre: soulmate au
warnings: none
— In a soulmate AU with the hot and cold dynamic, the world operates on the belief that each person has a soulmate who, when near, brings warmth to the individual. The farther their soulmate is, the colder they get. And the nearer their soulmate is, the warmer they get.
You shifted uncomfortably on the sofa, your body curled around the well-worn spine of a book, attempting to anchor yourself against the biting cold that permeated the Slytherin common room. The chill seemed to seep through the stone walls and the thick curtains drawn across the windows, as if the very air itself conspired to dampen any warmth that ventured inside.
As you flipped to the next pages of your book, Theodore Nott entered the room with an ethereal grace, his silhouette melding with the faint light spilling from the fire. There was a peculiar warmth that radiated around him, an almost imperceptible shift in the atmosphere that contrasted sharply with the bitter cold that clung to the room’s corners. It was a phenomenon you had become aware of, an inexplicable warmth that accompanied him wherever he went. It intrigued you. It made you think if you were imagining the sensation of how it became less chilly when he entered the common room.
His gaze drifted to you, observing the tension in your posture as you tried to ignore the chill. “Having trouble with the cold tonight?” he inquired, his voice low and unhurried.
You glanced up, feeling a faint flush rise to your cheeks. “It’s a bit relentless tonight,” you admitted, lowering your eyes to the pages of your book. “I feel as though the chill has taken residence in my bones.”
Theodore approached the fire, his steps deliberate and measured, and the warmth that seemed to surround him followed in his wake. It was a strange sensation, one that you had yet to fully understand, but it provided a subtle reprieve from the icy grip of the common room.
Theodore stood there—wordlessly for a good minute. Just staring into the fire as if he was waiting for something to jump out, his mind dazed as he was deep into his thoughts.
You glance at him, wondering ‘What could be in his mind?’ Before drawing your attention back to the book you were reading. Distracting you from the fact that it was warmer since he entered the room.
“Well, you mustn't be staying up all night then. You might end up asleep during Charms class tomorrow.” He spoke up, turning around and smirking at you. You smile, closing the book and looking up at him.
“You're right, I probably should've learned my lessons by now.” You held the book on your lap, much more comfortable now. Though you were intrigued why it was warm all of a sudden.
Theodore nodded, “I'm off then. Have a good night.” he flashed a genuine smile. “Goodnight, Theodore.” You simply replied, returning the genuine smile as you stood up as well.
You bade your goodbyes and went to your respective dorms, you simply can't help but notice the warmth slipping away as you went to different paths. Which made you confused, and intrigued. ‘Is he the one?’ Oh nonsense! You decided that it was best to sleep your thoughts off and deal with them in the morning.
-
You wandered through the empty corridors of Hogwarts, the flickering candlelight casting eerie shadows that danced along the cold stone walls. The chill of winter had permeated every corner of the castle, lingering like a constant, unforgiving presence. Every movement you made seemed to intensify the cold, as if the very air around you had become a barrier between warmth and you.
Theodore Nott had always been an enigma to you. There was something magnetic about him, a charm that was both infuriating and alluring. It wasn’t just his looks—though his dark hair and enigmatic smile certainly added to his allure. It was the way he seemed to challenge everything around him, pushing boundaries with a nonchalance that left everyone guessing.
Tonight was not any different than last night. Tonight, the cold seemed particularly harsh, clinging to your skin and settling into your bones. You found yourself wandering toward the entrance hall, where the heavy wooden doors creaked shut behind you. The gust of icy wind that greeted you seemed to double in intensity as you stepped into the night air. You drew your cloak tighter around you, feeling the cold bite into your fingertips.
Theodore appeared out of the shadows, his tall figure looming over you. There was something in the way he looked at you, a mix of curiosity and something darker that sent a shiver down your spine.“Still freezing, huh?” he asked, his voice low and smooth.
You sighed, leaning against the stone wall for support. “Seems that way.”
He stepped closer, his presence almost crowding you against the wall. The cold around you seemed to intensify, yet there was a flicker of warmth in the air between you, something you couldn’t quite explain.“Maybe it’s not just the cold,” Theodore murmured, his breath warm against your ear.
You felt his fingers brush against your arm, sending a surge of warmth through you. It was as if he carried a fire within him that could chase away the cold, if only for a moment. “Are you trying to tell me something, Theodore?” you asked, your voice low and challenging.
He chuckled softly, his gaze never leaving yours. “Maybe I’m just trying to see if we can figure this out. After all, the cold always seems to follow you.”
You pressed your lips together, feeling the tension between you tighten. There was something about the way he looked at you, as if he could see right through your defenses. You glanced away, trying to ignore the heat that flared between you.
“I'm sorry but I have to get to Astronomy. Goodbye, Theodore.” You blurted out rather quickly, trying to keep a poker face as your legs began to pace out of the situation. Not daring to look back because if you did, you feared you wouldn't be able to get your eyes off.
-
Later that evening, after Astronomy, you found yourself in the dimly lit library, searching for an elusive book to help with your Potions project. The rustling of pages and the occasional creak of old furniture provided a serene soundtrack to your solitude.A shadow loomed over you, and you glanced up to see Theodore standing there, a smirk on his lips. “Still searching for warmth?” he inquired.
You sighed, rubbing your hands together. “The cold seems to follow me everywhere.”He moved closer, his fingers brushing against the edge of your arm, and you felt the warmth spread through you. The cold around you dissipated, replaced by a gentle, comforting heat.
“There’s more warmth where that came from,” he murmured, his voice low and husky. You glanced at him, feeling the tension between you intensify. “What are you playing at, Theodore?”
He chuckled, stepping closer. “Just trying to figure out if we’re soulmates or not. And if we are, I’d say we’re pretty damn close.”
Your heart raced at his words, and the warmth seemed to surge between you. You leaned in closer, drawn to him despite your better judgement.
“Or maybe you’re just trying to take advantage of the situation,” you whispered.
Theodore’s eyes gleamed with mischief. “Maybe. But if it’s a game of hot and cold, I think we’re pretty damn close.”
The heat between you became palpable, and for a moment, you hesitated.
But when his lips brushed against yours, the warmth became unmistakable, and you surrendered to the moment.
Suddenly the cold you felt was gone, and all that you could feel now was warmth. It was a foreign feeling to you, it felt like something you would only feel when he was around.
You surrendered to the kiss, feeling the connection between you deepen with every touch, every brush of his lips. The cold that had plagued you for weeks faded into a distant memory as his hands explored your body, drawing you closer.
And then it hit you.
It was in this moment that you realized—perhaps there was more to this cold than mere coincidence. Perhaps Theodore Nott was the missing piece to your own warmth, the one who could chase away the chill that had haunted you for so long.
And as you clung to him, feeling the heat between you intensify, you knew that the cold had no power over you anymore.

OMG congrats for 1k!!!!💚
Since you said would like Enzo requests, and your celebration seems very cute, a Enzo x Nott!Reader with the prompt of Soulmate aus?
Maybe Reader is Theo's younger sister and goes to another school, and knows/has heard of Enzo through Theo, and somehow they become pen-pals? Just writing letters to eachother, very sweet and friendly.
Then Theo invites his slytherin friends home, Enzo and Reader meet and they realize they are soulmates? With a sprinkle of overprotective older brother Theo.🤭💚
I really do love Lorenzo, please guys send me more Enzo recs i need them biblically
Enzo would have met you during summer holiday going into his fifth year, you in your fourth. You were instantly smitten (how could you not be). Being a Nott, you had your boldness to you as well, so you wrote him first.
When the owl dropped the first letter down in front of Enzo, Theo originally thought it was for him, given it was your owl. However, when he saw Lorenzo Berkshire in your loopy handwriting he instantly became angry; over protective.
"Why in the bloody hell did you just get a letter from my sister?" Theo threw the letter at Enzo, who's cheeks instantly flushed, "I-I don't know..." Which was the truth, he had no idea. He made the choice to not open it there, despite Theo's demands that he do.
Enzo instead opened it after everyone else had went to sleep. You were straightforward, flirty, telling Enzo how smart you thought he was, how kind his eyes were, how attractive you found him and how sad you were that you wouldn't be able to see him again until next summer.
He wrote you back, telling you of your beauty, admiring your wit and admitting that he was slightly afraid of Theo given the look he had received when your letter arrived.
But it went on like this, back and forth for weeks on end, Enzo even learning a little Italian to put it in his letters to impress you (and it did). And you found yourself growing fonder and fonder with each letter exchanged.
When Christmas holiday came around, Theo barged in your room, "My friends are coming next week and staying through New Years. Stay away from Enzo."
You scoffed, "Excuse me?"
"You heard me, I know you're his little bloody pen pal or whatever you two call it. He's not allowed in your room and you two are not allowed alone together."
You couldn't help but roll your eyes, "Who do you think you are? My father?"
It was Theo's turn to scoff, "Please, you're lucky it's me and not Papà."
You knew he was right, but you were just as stubborn as him, "I'm not making any promises." Theo stalked out of your room after that.
When the boys arrived, you appeased Theo and kept your distance. For as long as you could, anyway. Enzo had thought maybe he had done something wrong, written something that had upset you in his last letter before he arrived.
So when New Years Eve arrived and he felt himself being pulled from the hall into a room he was sure it was Theo about to beat the shite out of him.
When his back was pushed against the wall and he saw your face instead, he instantly let out a deep sigh, "Merlin's sake, love, I thought you were your brother."
You faked offense, "You expected Theo to bring you in to his room and snog you?"
"No! Wait, what did you say?" Enzo's face went through a few emotions. First shock, then his cheeks flushed and he couldn't help but stutter.
"I said," you took a step closer to him, "I pulled you in here with maybe not the most innocent of intentions."
You wrapped your arms around Enzo's neck, his hands finding solace on your hips nearly on instinct. You stood on your tip toes, lacing your fingers at the base of Enzo's neck and pulling him down slightly.
He responded without hesitation, his lips finding yours like a magnet. You knew in that moment that this one kiss wasn't going to be enough. His lips were too soft, fit yours too perfectly. He hands felt too good on your body and they barely strayed far from your hips.
When you finally pulled back Enzo was chasing your lips, successfully landing one, two, three more pecks on your lips before finally allowing you to speak.
"You should get back," he was saddened by your words, but nodded in understanding. "I know, but right now I feel like I would be okay with Theo being mad at me."
You giggled, thumb lightly tracing his cheek, "Well you know which room is mine, now you can come back after he falls asleep." Enzo held your face in both of his hands, placing one last long, hard kiss to your lips which you took as an acceptance to your plan before leaving you in your room alone, thoughts of later that night dancing in your head.

how many times have i found you?
Chapter Three
ao3 and ffn
“What were you thinking, Hermione?” She is accosted by Dean as soon as she steps foot into the common room. “We heard Ron and Harry were in the infirmary, and something happened with Quirrell. But I didn’t hear anything about you, and I knew you had to have been with them.” He’s talking fast and looking her over from head to toe. She doesn’t have a chance to respond before he pulls her to him. He holds her tight, and she stands there shocked. She’s never had someone be so worried about her before.
“I’m alright.” She mummers as she hugs him back. He pulls back and holds her by her shoulders. She gives him a small smile. He sighs.
“Alright, just don’t do anything like that again.” He lets her go and takes a step back. He looks embarrassed all of a sudden.
“Would you like to hear what really happened?” He still looks upset, but he gives in.
“Don’t leave anything out.” He says as he pulls her to the sofa.
~
“I’m just getting worried, is all.” She says as she finishes the last equation on the page. When Dean had told her that his parents still wanted him to continue his muggle education, she had decided she would do the same. Since leaving Hogwarts, they’ve met up once or twice a week to work together. Her parents had been more than happy to drive her across town. They haven’t said anything, but she knows they are excited she has a friend…finally. “I’ve written him all summer and haven’t heard a thing back.”
“This is Harry were talking about, right? He’s not the most…” He trails off, but Hermione knows exactly what he means.
“Yes, I know. But he said he would write back.” She pouts. She had thought she and Harry were starting to get on well together.
“He lives with his muggle aunt and uncle, right?” She nods. “Why don’t you just ring him?” He smiles at the dumbfounded look on her face.
“Why didn’t I think of that?” She grumbles.
“Because I’m the smart one in this friendship obviously?” In a move so un-Hermione like, it has Dean bursting out in laughter, she sticks her tongue out at him. “Come on, I’m sure my mum has a phone book sitting around somewhere.”
After some rummaging, they finally find it. It is surprisingly easy finding the number. Not many Dursleys in Surrey. He writes the number down in his notebook. Before he can pick up the phone, they hear the slamming of car doors.
“Oh gods.” He groans as he pulls the notebook over his face. A second later she hears the front door open, and it is accompanied by high pitched giggling. The eldest of his little sisters stops when she catches sight of them and hollers out behind her.
“Dean’s girlfriend is here.” It is followed by another round of giggles before Dean’s mum tells them all to hush up. She wonders if he’s blushing as badly as her.
“She’s just my friend. You know, something you’ll never have.” She just laughs before flicking his forehead. He tries to swat her away, but she runs away before he can retaliate.
“Sorry about them, dear. Are you staying for dinner, Hermione?” She didn’t realise it was so late. She checks her watch then grimaces.
“Oh, I didn’t realise the time. No, thank you. My dad will be here soon.”
“Another time then dear.” When the coast is clear, Dean dials the number. It rings twice before someone picks up. Dean asks for Harry, and a gruff voice replies. She doesn’t know what they are saying, but from the look on Dean’s face it can’t be anything good. The line clicks before he can say anything back.
“He said Harry isn’t allowed to use the phone. He must be in trouble or something.” But he doesn’t look too convinced. Hermione isn’t either. They sit in silence as she packs away her things.
“I’ll try next week. It is his birthday after all. Surely, he won’t still be in trouble.”
~
And she does just that, but the nasally voice who answers tells her no one named Harry Potter lives there and to never call back. She is hung up on before she has even fully comprehended what has happened. She thinks about calling Dean, wondering if she has the wrong number, but an incessant tapping at her kitchen window stops her. The weathered looking owl she has come to recognise as Ron’s sits there like he’s on his last leg.
Apparently, Ron was getting worried, too. He and his brothers are staging a ‘rescue mission’. She hopes Harry isn’t in need of actual rescuing. She writes back telling him not to do anything illegal and to owl her as soon as he has news on Harry.
A week later she gets a reply. By the end of it she is seething. Not only was a house elf stealing Harry’s letters, but it also did magic in his muggle house which Harry got blamed for. While the use of a flying car is certainly not how she would have done, she is glad the Weasleys showed up when they did. The Dursley’s is in no way the right place for Harry
She would have to do some research.
~
“Ready to go?” Her dad asks as she once again looks over her school supply list. Dean snatches it from her hand and puts it in his pocket. She glares at him. He pushes her toward the door and gives her dad a grin.
“All ready, Mr Granger.” He just chuckles as he pushes both of them out the door. Her mum and Dean’s parents had gotten a little overwhelmed the year before, so her dad had volunteered to take the both of them. They will be meeting Harry and the Weasley’s there. Dean had written Seamus as well, but his family wouldn’t be coming to London until just before school starts.
The whole ride to The Leaky Cauldron is spent talking about football. Which is almost as bad as listening to the boys talk about Quidditch. Almost. At least with football she knows all the teams.
They find the Weasleys easily after they’ve been to Gringotts. But they seem frantic. She spots Ron and pulls Dean with her towards him.
“What’s going on?”
“Well, Harry used the floo for the first time and now we can’t seem to find him.” Ron starts to mumble towards the end.
“What do you mean you can’t find him?” Hermione asks as she glares at Ron. He goes from sheepish to angry in an instant. They look ready to argue before Dean interrupts them.
“Oi, he’s fine. He’s right there with Hagrid.” Hermione and Ron both dart their heads to the direction Dean is pointing.
“Blimey Harry, we thought we lost you there.” Ron says as he runs up to the pair. All of his anger gone as he thoroughly ignores Hermione.
“Ended up in Knockturn Alley, he did.” Hagrid grumbles as he pats at the soot covering Harry. Mr and Mrs Weasley soon join them, thanking Hagrid for finding Harry. Seeing the red blossoming on his cheeks, Hermione pulls him away from the adults.
“You’ll need to stop at Gringotts, yes? We’ve already been. We’ll wait for you here.” She says as she pushes him towards the white steps of the wizarding bank.
“Mr Weasley’s taken your dad hostage.” Dean tells her when she walks back to the two boys. She looks over to see Mr Weasley almost violently shaking her dad’s hand while talking very animatedly. Even her very open-minded dad looks a little out of his depth.
“It’s probably a good thing our mums stayed home, huh?” She whispers back. He chuckles and then settles into a grin. Ron’s eyeing them up, but Mrs Weasley waves them all over before he can say anything.
~
“Remind me, why were you so excited to see Gilderoy Lockhart, Hermione?” Dean snickers. He’s been teasing her since they left Flourish and Blotts. They bicker back and forth, Dean laughing the whole time. Her dad is unusually quiet. Until he isn’t
“Why was Arthur fighting with that man?” Both children go still. “It wasn’t because of me, was it?" Hermione catches a glimpse of his face in the rear-view. He looks frustrated and a little upset. She looks to Dean. He subtly shakes his head. It seems neither of them had told their parents just how prejudiced some wizards could be.
“No, dad, I don’t think so. They just don’t get along. Even their kids don’t.” He thinks on it for a moment then nods his head. She can tell he doesn’t fully believe her, but he’s willing to let it go…for now.
~
The last few weeks of summer holiday are blissfully uneventful. She sees Dean a few more times, and Harry owls her once or twice. Her parents take her camping, and she’s grateful for the time she has gotten to spend with them. But as September 1st gets closer, she grows more and more eager to return to Hogwarts. The night before, she triple-checks her trunk and only goes to bed after her parents take it to the car. When she finally falls asleep, she wishes she hadn’t.
The slamming of the door didn’t wake her. Neither did the cracking of thunder or the blistering rain pounding against the roof.
“Up, now.” Consciousness pulls at her as the heavy footsteps close in on her. “Get out of bed!” She blearily looks up at him. As he charges closer, she’s finally able to make out his features.
She scrambles across the bed, but he is faster. His hand grips her upper arm so tightly she winces in pain. He sneers down at her as she tries to pull away. She can hardly keep up as he drags her out of the house. The rain and thunder drown out all the other sounds around them.
He keeps pulling her along, and she can feel the cuts already forming on her feet. As soon as her home is no longer in sight, he pulls her tightly against him. She struggles. She tries to push him away, but it gets her nowhere.
“Keep still!” He hisses, but she doesn’t. When he has finally had enough, the back of his hand meets her face with such force she falls limp against him. He pulls her to him again. The world moves too fast around her. She feels as if she’s been pulled inside out and then back again.
Her feet touch the ground again. She hadn’t realised they had left it. Her stomach turns as soon as everything stops moving. She looks around. They are in a large empty cavern with several tunnels leading out. There’s a boy here, but he’s not looking at her or the man holding her. He doesn’t even seem to know they are there. Not until the man comments on her, that is.
“See how pathetic they are, son.” The boy finally turns to them. She recognises him just as she recognised the man who pulled her out of bed. He doesn’t say anything back to his father. He just looks at her with horror in his eyes.
“Father…” He mummers, but his eyes never leave hers.
“You thought I wouldn’t find out, that you could keep her a secret.” His voice continues to rise. She should be scared. After everything he’s told her about his father, she should be scared. “She’s a muggle. What were you thinking?” His every word is filled with venom. His grip on her arm has only gotten tighter. “She can’t live. Gods know what you’ve told her.” He throws her down on the stone floor. “No, she needs to disappear, and you need to learn a lesson.” He then starts to hiss. She would think the sound pretty if he didn’t spit it with such violence.
“No, father, please!” He tries to grab for her, but he stops in place as if he’s hit a wall. His father stops his hissing, and when she looks back at him, he has a stick pointed at him.
“I said you need to learn a lesson. You will stay right there, and you will watch.” He yells with such force his whole face turns red. The hissing starts again.
She looks back to the boy. She thinks he might be crying, but she can’t hear him. His eyes go wide as he looks behind her, and then he starts to scream. She looks and then wishes she hadn’t. Everything goes silent then. The only sound is that of her own heartbeat.
In front of her sits the biggest snake she has ever seen. The beast is taller than both of the men put together, and it is so long she cannot see the end of it. It slithers its way toward her, stopping once to listen to the man hissing.
She casts one more look behind her. The boy is no longer looking at her. His eyes are hard, and his jaw is clenched as he glares at his father. She has never seen such hate in him before. She can see the fire in him.
All of a sudden, she can feel it too. The beast sinks its teeth into her, and nothing has ever felt as painful. She screams and screams. And then she feels nothing at all.
She barely remembers the dream as she wakes up. But she’s panting, and tears are running down her cheeks. It’s been months since she’s had one, and never once has she had such a strong emotional reaction to one. She’s anxious for the rest of the day. The mood is sombre like last year, but her mum doesn’t cry this time for which she is thankful. She knows she could hardly handle it after last night.
She makes her way onto the platform after saying goodbye to her parents. She spots Dean and Seamus right away. They seem to be waiting for something. As soon as Dean spots her, he smiles and waves her over. She is hit with a realisation. They were waiting for her. The smile on her face isn’t forced like the rest she’s had today.
Dean gives her a strange look, but Seamus pulls them along before either of them can say anything. She hopes Harry and Ron have already saved them a compartment.

Forthcoming Post:
Divination for Skeptics | The latest in magical advancements is an enchantment that reveals the bearer’s romantic compatibility with another person. Effectively eliminating uncertainty from dating, the charm can tell you whether or not you’ve found The One with a precise, Hermione Granger-approved calculation of traits and preferences. It’s a foolproof method of predicting relationship happiness. It’s also, for Hermione, positively dreadful news. Dramione, post-war, soulmate AU.
In which: hermione obsessively consults a spreadsheet. theo repeatedly gets himself arrested. harry works too many night shifts. draco tries to be left alone; fails disastrously. on the bright side, they’re all in agreement that this is 100% george weasley’s fault.

[Pansy x Theo] Midnight Roses
There was no surprise colouring her movements when she heard the sharp bell ringing in her flat. Alright, maybe she was surprised that it happened so quickly—Luna worked fast, that’s for sure—but the sight of Draco himself standing at the entrance was not surprising.
“Can I come in?”
The fifth chapter of my Pansy/Theo story is out! 🥀 It features a new development for Draco and Pansy friendship, more surprising news and overall status quo that seems impossible to break. Enjoy 😌💕

I'm not sure if you've ever written them but I desperately love them!! Tom x narcissa?! Hmm.. 🤔 if you have done them I don't think I've read a regulus x Theo by you? Anything by you is lovely 😊😍
(Sorry!!! I meant to get to this the day you sent it!)
I’ve not written for either of those pairings!!!!
Echoes- Tom x Narcissa
Tom recognized her the moment she walked in.
The blonde hair was new. And she was taller. But when she glanced at him with those flashing grey eyes and smirked with her full lips, he knew.
There were something that stayed the same, no matter how many new bodies they inhabited.
“And this is my daughter, Narcissa.” Cygnus said from beside him, his arm outstretched and waiting for his daughters hand. She placed her dainty hand in her fathers large one before bowing to him. “Narcissa, this is our guest, Mr. Riddle.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” she said demurely and curtsied.
Tom held out his hand and when she gently placed her hand in his, a spark ignited at her touch, rushing up his arm and leaving goose-flesh in it’s wake. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her fingertips. Her eyes widened and her cheeks flushed, he grinned. “Please, call me Tom.”
She smiled up at him through her lashes and he saw the hint of recognition there. With a small tug of her hand, he had her in his arms and dipped his head low to whisper his promise. This time, in this life, he wouldn’t let her go.
Stop the Clock - Theo x Regulus
“You’ll give yourself a headache if you keep trying to read that book by ember light.” Regulus heard the lightly teasing words before a pair of arms wrapped around his shoulders from behind. He blinked owlishly, pulled from his study as Theo pressed a kiss to his temple.
Regulus placed one hand over Theo’s and used the other to mark his place in his book. “I didn’t notice the fire had gotten so low.” he confessed.
“Hmm, I bet you didn’t notice that it’s after 2 in the morning either?” Theo asked and placed his chin on Regulus’ shoulder, “Put the book down. Come to bed.”
Regulus closed his eyes and exhaled through his nose, willing himself not to give in. “You know why I can’t. I have to find-”
He was cut off abruptly as Theo pressed his soft lips against the corner of Regulus mouth, flicking his tongue out, before pulling away slightly. With a groan, Regulus released his book and tangled his hand in Theo’s lush brown waves. Turning his head to get better access, he pressed his lips against his lover’s. Completely in sync, they moaned and the kiss went wild as their tongues tangled in hot, open-mouthed, kisses. Each time they pulled away, they found themselves being pulled back, again, and again, and again.
Finally, Regulus released Theo; they were both panting heavily in the aftermath.
“I still can’t.” Regulus continued the conversation, trying to not to let his eyes wander back to Theo’s pink lips. “I have to figure this out.” He bit his lip and looked down at the book on the floor, barely discernible against the dark carpet in the low firelight. “Then maybe I won’t leave you again.” he finished on a whisper.
Theo’s fingers were gentle on his chin as he tilted Regulus’ head until their eyes met. “I don’t want you to get sucked back to that hell hole you once called home either.” he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to Regulus’ lips, “And I promise we’ll keep looking. Because no matter how many times you go there, I know you’ll always come back. And I’ll always be waiting.” He released him and took a step back, “Now, please, come to bed. It’s late and I want to hold you in my arms for another night.”
The corner of Regulus’ mouth turned up in something that could almost be called a smile, “Alight. I’ll come to bed.”
Later, he’d finish the book on time-travel and paradoxes, but right now he would join the love of his life. Later they would worry about their problems, but for the moment they could wait, until later.
