NOVEMBER 13, 2028
The first week of their postseason vacation couldn’t have gone any better. After a successful last year with the Sparks and the Wings respectively, Tess and Paige needed the time out of the country, away from basketball and other people. For four years, they’d spend up to six months away from each other training, playing, or travelling – it wasn’t much different from what they were used to in college, but they were nearing their five year anniversary and if Tess was being honest, she loathed only having Paige for half of the year. They planned to spend the first two full weeks of the offseason in Naples, Italy, where Tess had grown up – completely alone with plenty of time to relax after a grueling championship contending season.
So the first week was amazing. They flew in on a Monday, ordered room service and promptly fell asleep after dinner, far too jet lagged and exhausted after hours of travelling. On Tuesday, Paige treated her to breakfast in bed: delicate pastries and fruits and savory meats, then they toured an art museum – the Sansevero Chapel Museum. Tess was pretty sure Paige spent more time staring at her than the actual art they’d paid to look at, but she wasn’t going to complain. She enjoyed Paige’s attention more than she liked to admit. On Wednesday, Tess showed her around the inner workings of the city and the street she grew up on. Paige even met some of her extended family, such as her paternal grandparents and some other cousins. Tess’s family welcomed Paige in with open arms and made sure they stayed for lunch. They spent the rest of the day walking around the city hand-in-hand with Tess sharing childhood stories as Paige listened intently. On Thursday, they visited the San Carlo Theatre – coincidentally enough, they were performing an opera of Romeo and Juliet, which endlessly amused the both of them. On Friday, Paige decided she wanted to try every pizza place that Naples had to offer, and Tess didn’t really have the heart to say no to her. The weekend was spent lounging around, walking around the city some more, and visiting the beach, although they quickly gave up on that endeavor because it was entirely too cold.
Then the second week rolled around and Paige’s entire demeanor changed. When Tess woke up on Monday morning, shirt and underwear haphazardly thrown on after a long night, Paige was lying silently next to her, hands folded over her stomach. She was staring at the ceiling fan like it held the answers for whatever existential question she’d been pondering. Paige and silent were two things that never ended well when they were mixed together. The last time Paige had been eerily quiet had been after New Year’s in 2024 – that was a month of dread and panic that Tess never wanted to go back to, so she rolls onto her side, gazing at Paige.
“Do you ever think the trees are trying to communicate with us but we’re too dumb to understand them?” she asks seriously, watching five different expressions cross Paige’s face before she settles on amusement, laughing quietly.
Paige finally cranes her head over, her face softening when she locks eyes with Tess. Her hair is unruly, a mess from the night before, mascara flaking and her skin littered with marks. Tess is certain she’s never seen anyone more beautiful than Paige and she’s certain she never will. Even after almost five years together, Paige still makes her heart beat like she’s a teenager with a crush. “What happened to ‘good morning?’” she jokes.
“Not a good morning when I wake up and you’re social distancing,” Tess grumbles indignantly, pointing at the space in between them. “What happened to, I don’t know, ‘loving your girlfriend?’”
“I’m so sorry, baby,” Paige croons, her tone teasing. She rolls Tess onto her other side, curling an arm around her abdomen, her fingers lacing together with Tess’s over her navel. She rests her chin just above the crown of Tess’s head, sinking into the pillow. “Better?”
Tess hums, content, her hair raising at the feel of Paige’s skin against hers. “You gonna tell me what’s wrong?” she asks.
Paige huffs out something akin to shocked laughter. “What makes you think something’s wrong?”
“Paige, we’ve been together for almost five years,” Tess states. “You think I don’t know when something’s on your mind?” She twists the ring on Paige’s thumb as the blonde falls silent, thinking. “I don’t want you to ice me out,” she admits. “We said we wouldn’t do that. If there’s something wrong –”
“Nothing’s wrong,” Paige says quickly. She squeezes Tess’s hand, craning her head to press a gentle kiss on her temple. “Nothing’s wrong. Believe me. Everything’s perfect. Just…a big moment for us right now.”
“Free agency?” Tess asks, turning around in Paige’s embrace to face her fully after adjusting her arms. Paige’s face looks torn, uncertain – free agency has to be what’s weighing on her now, right? They’ve had this conversation numerous times, especially late at night after rough games when they’re missing each other and the distance feels like a burden. They’ve done this before, which is what Tess clings onto – they’ve been hundreds of miles apart in college but it’s so different now that they’re in the league and that they know their future is with one another.
“Free agency is up there,” Paige confesses after a while, frowning. “We don’t gotta talk about it right now. This is our vacation.”
“We say that every time,” Tess says softly, trying to start a conversation, not an argument. That’s been one of the biggest points of growth with Paige over the past few years. Tess is often too quick to jump to a conclusion, to get into her head about a situation or however Paige must feel about something. They’ve had these growing pains discussions numerous times, learning to be patient and trust each other more and more. Tess searches Paige’s features. “You and I both want to play ball. You know I don’t mind competing against you, but…I don’t like the distance, either. So, what do you want from whatever team you’re interested in?”
Paige hesitates, but Tess stares at her imploringly. “A younger team,” she says. “Lots of people are retiring. Stewie, BG, Sloot, Natasha. I wanna go to a team that’s gonna be together for a while, be a championship contender. I wanna be closer to you, too.”
“Okay,” Tess says, feeling slightly relieved – she and Paige are in agreement on that much. She wants longevity, a team that’s reliable, where she can settle down. She’s been stubborn on keeping up her apartment lease in LA just because she didn’t want to purchase anything permanent that wouldn’t have both hers and Paige’s name on it. “Do you have a team in mind?”
“I’ve talked to some people, yeah,” Paige says. “Have you?”
Tess nods. Paige’s thumb finds her jaw, tracing the skin there absentmindedly. “Say it on three?”
“On three,” Paige confirms. “One.”
Tess swallows. “Two.”
Together, they both say “Three,” and then –
“Valkyries,” they say at the exact same time.
The tension melts from Paige’s shoulders immediately as Tess breaks into peals of laughter. Paige shakes her head fondly, tucking her chin into the crook of Tess’s neck to hide the blush on her cheeks. “Okay. So we’ll sign with the Valkyries if they reach out to us during free agency.”
“Don’t think there’s gonna be an ‘if,’” Paige says quietly. “I talked to Azzi and she said Natalie was very interested in us. They recently got some crazy salary cap increase so I think their plan was to splurge on us, make it hard to say no. Pretty sure they also got Kiki and Ayoka to resign, so me, you, Azzi, Kiki, and Ayoka? Playoffs, easily.”
“Oh, so you think we’re starters?” Tess asks teasingly.
“You think they’re gonna drop a couple million on bench players?”
Tess shakes her head fondly, but presses her lips to Paige’s hairline, unable to keep the smile off her face. “I can’t believe we’ll be playing together next season,” she murmurs, feeling Paige tighten her arms around her waist. “After kicking your ass for nine straight years –”
“That is not what happened,” Paige interrupts, smushing her finger into Tess’s cheek. “2025? Ring a bell? UConn natty?”
“I recall a lot of things from that night but a natty was not one,” Tess states. “I remember you coming to my hotel room, and –”
Paige slides her hand across Tess’s mouth, shutting her up, but her eyes are slightly wide. “Don’t,” she says softly. The corner of her mouth twitches like she’s trying to hold back laughter. Tess rolls her eyes and she pushes Paige’s hand off of her. “Does this mean we gotta start apartment hunting now?”
Tess hums. “Maybe a house?” she suggests, watching Paige’s reaction carefully. As her words sink in, a smile grows unabashed on Paige’s face.
“You wanna buy a house with me?”
“Paige,” Tess says, a little indignant. “Duh?” Paige’s expression turns unbelievably tender, her smile softening. Tess quirks a grin of her own. “I’m thinking of something permanent, you know? Settle down, finally? Stay with the Valkyries until we’re, what – 40 something, Diana Taurasi style. Retire in the Bay. We’ll have our house, maybe four bed, couple baths. Us, maybe a kid or two, guest room for our friends. We’ll probably be coaching somewhere, collecting our rings when we’re old and washed up.” Tess swallows, realizing the gravity of what she’s just said. “I mean, if that’s something you’d be interested in.”
“Tess.”
“Hm?”
“Shut up.”
Before she can respond, Paige’s fingers are curling around her neck, pulling her in closer until their lips meet, and kissing her with a softness and a gentleness that hasn’t disappeared after so many years together. Tess can’t help but smile, feeling the promise, the agreement, that Paige presses against her. When she draws back, Paige’s smile is wide, her teeth showing and the corners of her eyes crinkling. “I want that with you,” Paige murmurs, just so that there’s absolutely no confusion. “Lemme put a ring on it before we start talking about kids, yeah?”
Tess narrows her eyes dramatically. “You need to hurry it up, then,” she says. “I won’t wait around forever.”
Paige lifts one of her hands, kissing her knuckles with a coy smile. “Trust me. Gonna make it worth your while, baby.”
Tess honestly should have known that she had another trick up her sleeve, but she was too lost in the moment to overthink her words. So she acquiesced, giving into the deep, lingering kiss that Paige pressed into her lips, letting herself sink further into their bed and reveling in the way Paige’s lips danced across her skin.
The rest of the week passed with little interruption or further weirdness. Paige did seem a little nervous at times, though the moment never lasted too long, so Tess didn’t think much of it. She and Paige continued to make the most of their time in Italy. They had a private couple’s painting event, where Paige, for whatever reason, painted the two of them as stick figures driving around in a basketball shaped car (she’s lucky that Tess is in love because otherwise…God help her). Paige booked them in with a renowned Italian chef who taught them how to make homemade pasta and various sauces, which went as well as one could expect – that is to say Tess was just endlessly distracted by the way the veins in Paige’s hands protruded as she kneaded the dough.
Then, on Friday the 17th – Tess’s birthday – Tess woke up to Paige’s lips on her face and an assortment of brunch food. They indulged for the better part of the morning, not leaving the bed until the afternoon until their spa appointment. Paige had declared that she “deserved to be pampered” and who was Tess to argue against that? The resort masseuse and the nail techs were incredible at their jobs and Tess left the appointment feeling incredibly refreshed. Her birthday dinner was at an upscale restaurant in the heart of the city and Paige gifted her another charm for her bracelet – this time in the shape of the Italian peninsula to remind her of their time here.
Saturday the 18th was different – there was a palpable shift in the air. She woke up a little past eleven in the morning, alone, which was concerning in and of itself because Paige is rarely awake before she is. Paige is a chore to get out of bed in the mornings and always has been. She’s the CEO of “five more minutes” or “come cuddle” which, Tess will admit, has only become more endearing over the years, but right now, all it does is worry Tess after the conversation they had earlier in the week about free agency.
She hardly has the time to overthink it too much because Paige is shuffling back into their room, sporting an insane case of bedhead and a slight smudge of toothpaste lingering on her bottom lip. The blonde grins at her, easing her nerves instantly, and she presses one knee into the bed as she leans over Tess’s body, planting a kiss onto her lips. “Good morning!” she chirps, which is the next indicator that something is up.
“Good morning,” Tess says, honestly a little confused. She wipes the foam off of Paige’s lip. “What’s gotten into you?” she asks suspiciously.
“What, I can’t be happy?” Paige raises a brow, leaning in to kiss her again. Tess stops her with a hand to her chest.
“Okay, now I know you’re being weird,” Tess states. “You woke up before me. You got out of bed and attempted to make yourself…somewhat presentable, when the first thing you do in the morning is beg to be the little spoon for a little while.” As she speaks, Tess smooths out the mess on Paige’s head, frowning slightly. “You’re too happy right now. And you keep trying to distract me. So, you’re plotting something. What’s going on?”
Paige huffs dramatically, leaning away from Tess. “Nothing’s wrong, ma, swear,” she vows. Tess narrows her eyes at her, studying her features closely, but all she can make out is an anxious earnestness and unequivocal love. Paige cups her cheek as she kisses her temple gently, moving her mouth to her ear to whisper, “Everything’s perfect right now. Trust me, okay? Just wanna make you happy.”
“You do,” Tess affirms. Paige’s words soften the tension in her shoulders. Maybe she is overthinking again, which isn’t unlike her. Paige has never given her any reason to doubt her words, not in the near five years they’ve been together. She owes it to Paige to have more faith in her, in them.
A smug look crosses across Paige’s features as she pokes Tess in the cheek obnoxiously. “I know.” Tess rolls her eyes fondly as Paige leaves the bed fully. “Now get dressed. This is our last day in Italy and we got shit to do. Can you do my hair?” Tess meets her eyes through the mirror, raising a brow slightly. “Please?” Paige adds.
“I’ll house train you one day,” Tess mumbles, though she knows Paige is basically a lost cause at this point. Her girlfriend smiles at her and all of her faux annoyance washes away in an instant as Tess presses a kiss to her cheek, beginning to work on her hair. Paige gives her free reign to work and Tess elects to leave Paige’s down in natural, loose waves. Then, they get dressed – Paige dons a baggy pair of black cargos with an oversized white sweater and matching white sneakers. She doesn’t forget her chain or the various rings on her fingers, which makes Tess contemplate telling her to cancel their reservations for wherever they’re going so they can spend the day in bed (again – but that’s no one’s business but their own). Tess herself dresses in white sneakers, a pair of light-wash blue jeans, and a patterned sweater that she’d stolen directly from Paige’s luggage – the very sweater that Tess claimed made Paige look like an art teacher.
Once they’re ready to go, Paige leads her hand-in-hand down the busy streets towards a restaurant. They indulge in a late lunch, cracking jokes, sharing stories and optimism for the future – Paige wants an outdoor court built at whatever house they’re buying (possibly the least surprising thing Tess has ever heard), and Tess’s only real complaint is that she doesn’t want to live in an obnoxiously huge mansion. As long as the house has what they need and they have their family, then there’s not much else that Tess wants.
After lunch, they arrive at a private pottery making class, which takes a good few hours out of their day. Paige looked absolutely silly with her sleeves rolled up to her elbows and covered in clay, and Tess is sure that the only thing that stopped them from initiating an all-out clay war was the elderly woman who was carefully instructing them. Eventually, their creations start taking shape – a vase for Tess and a lopsided mug for Paige, and while they get fired in the kiln, the instructor talks them through the history of Italian pottery and ceramics.
Tess had thought the pottery class was their last stop on the day, but Paige had something else planned. “It’s a secret,” she claimed, but she seemed a little more nervous than she was earlier that day, which did little to quell Tess’s sudden anxiety until Paige pressed her lips to her knuckles. “Trust me.”
And so she did, allowing Paige to lead her down the streets once more in the fading daylight. The sky was lined with streaks of pinks, oranges, and a dimming yellow. Tess knows she says it a lot, but in this light, Paige looks absolutely radiant – the sharp lines of her face softened by the gentleness of the sky, the blush on her cheeks heightened by the chill in the air. Her palm was warm against Tess’s, rough in some places and smooth in others, but Tess loves every inch of Paige just the same.
Finally, the two of them stop in front of an unassuming door, one that Tess had never seen growing up here. Paige’s nerves seem to return tenfold as she pauses. Tess watches her face contort as if she’s battling some internal decision. She squeezes their linked hands, feeling the relief that exudes from Paige’s body, and the blonde smiles tentatively. “You first,” she states, resting her free hand over the door knob. Tess gives a confused, yet trusting nod, as Paige opens the door and ushers her inside.
The breath is all but sucked from her lungs as soon as she’s indoors. The lighting in the room is dim, but Tess can see nearly everything. The rose petals creating a path for them, the flickering of candles strewn about, but the part that truly captures her attention are the polaroids that hang from the ceiling on thin twine strings. The one closest to the entrance are incredibly new, selfies of the two of them from the week before, a picture of Tess and Paige swept up with Tess’s extended family. There’s a solo shot of Tess grinning at the camera for Paige, dolled up in her birthday dress and holding a glass of wine.
Paige doesn’t say anything – she doesn’t have to. She rests her palms over Tess’s hips as she guides the both of them forward, allowing Tess the time to properly look at all of the pictures. As they walk through the room, which Tess figures was an art gallery given the abstract paintings on the wall, the pictures get older and older. There’s a photo of the two of them from the WNBA finals, confetti sticking to their sweat-slick bodies as they embraced in the middle of the court. There’s a photo of them at the Olympics holding up their matching gold medals. There’s countless shots of them sharing the basketball court, as rivals, and part of Tess can’t help but get choked up because they’re not going to be rivals on the court after this vacation is said and done. After nine years, she finally gets to play with Paige, as teammates, and she’s not sure if there’s anything in the world that could possibly top that feeling.
Their WNBA memories filter out, leading to their college ones. There’s one of the two of them from the national championship, displaying the two of them staring at each other – Tess on one side of an half-empty court, Paige on the other swarmed by her teammates. The pride reflected on Tess’s face is evident in the photo. There’s a bunch of other memories, their February game, holidays celebrated with each other, their summer of 2024 world tour, and photographs of them from when they were “pretending.” Tess spots herself perched on Paige’s lap during the first Thanksgiving she spent with the extended Bueckers family, arguing over Fortnite with Paige as Paige’s siblings watched on in amusement. There’s countless FaceTime screenshots, back when the two of them were truly getting to know each other, selfies from their Bose trip that changed everything, and finally, as they’re nearing the end, the photographs melt into their initial soft launch photos, that damned coffee shop and Paige’s less than subtle appearance. But the last photo isn’t like the others. The rose petal path has led them to the back end of the art gallery, still illuminated by the soft lighting. The last photo is framed. It’s of the two of them shaking hands after the first game they played against each other on February 8, 2021. That date has stuck with Tess for a while now. If you’d told her younger self in 2021 that she’d be here, now, with Paige Bueckers, she wouldn’t believe you. But now? She can’t think of anything more fitting, more obvious than her and Paige.
With tears brimming her eyes and wrought with nostalgia and gratefulness, Tess turns to meet Paige’s gaze, but she’s already looking at her. She always is. Paige looks extremely nervous, but there’s a spark of determination that Tess knows all too well.
“We met almost eight years ago,” Paige states, her voice soft as her shaky hands reach out for Tess’s. “In Gampel. We played against each other and I learned so much from you – I just didn’t have the courage to talk to you, and I regretted that for months. Then, two years after that, in May of 2023, God sent you to me again. It was awkward, and unconventional, and I thought you didn’t like me –” the two of them share a watery laugh, “–but I knew I had to make the most of it. Of us. I wasn’t gonna let you get away from me, not again. So we fake dated. I just wanted you in any way you’d have me. I was happy to just be your friend. But as time went by, I fell for you, and…” Paige smiles at her. “I was scared at first, but part of me knew it was gonna happen. You’re a competitor, you’re stubborn, and the most beautiful girl I’ve ever known. You get me, always have, and me falling in love with you was real. We’re real. I’m so thankful for what we have, for you, and knowing that we’ll be playing together next season is everything I’ve wanted for nearly eight years. I can’t wait to do this with you. I can’t wait to build a life with you. On New Year’s Eve in 2023, I told you my resolution was building something permanent. I’ve kept that promise, but I’m gonna amend that to say my resolution is to build something permanent with you.”
Paige releases her hands, exhaling, and Tess almost chokes on a sob when Paige carefully drops down to one knee, her hands reaching into her pocket to produce a small ring box. Her hands shake as she opens the top, revealing the gold engagement band and a stunning, sparkling diamond, minimalist yet beautiful in the way Tess prefers her jewelry. But the ring doesn’t hold her attention for too long. She gazes down at Paige, at the tears beading at her waterline, the clear anticipation and nervousness and unfiltered love in her eyes. Tess watches a soft smile spread across Paige’s face as she finally asks the question she’s been waiting to hear for years. “Tess Kennedy, will you make me the happiest woman in the world and marry me?”
Tess doesn’t even have to think about it. She sinks down across from Paige, throwing her arms around her neck and pulling her in for a bone-crushing hug. “Oh my fucking God,” she murmurs, not even feelingly slightly ashamed as she soaks Paige’s sweater with her tears. Paige wraps her arms around her middle, pulling her close tightly as she laughs.
“So is that a yes?”
“Yes, Paige,” she stresses, barely resisting an eye roll when Paige’s face lights up, simultaneously melting with relief. “I told you I wanted to marry you almost four years ago. You really thought my answer was gonna change?”
Paige huffs, amused, as she slides the ring onto Tess’s finger. The candlelight reflects beautifully off it. The ring is gorgeous but Tess can’t keep her eyes off of Paige, whose eyes shine with tears and gratitude. “Just wanted to hear you say it.” Her tone is gentle but also a little smug. “Tess Kennedy wants to marry me,” she sing-songs.
Tess rolls her eyes fully as she and Paige stand up. “You literally got down on one knee and asked, you jerk,” she retorts, reaching up to cup Paige’s cheek and brushing away one of her tears. Her voice is soft despite her words, which makes Paige laugh as she grabs Tess by her wrist and presses a kiss to her open palm, her smile bright and fully enamored. Then, a realization dawns on Tess and she groans, pressing her forehead into Paige’s shoulder. “Oh my God. Is this what you were so nervous about last week? Not free agency?”
Paige laughs, a sound straight from the belly as she wraps her arms around Tess’s shoulders. “I didn’t lie. I was a little nervous about free agency, but I was a lot more nervous for this. Knew you’d say yes – you’re in love with me and shit –”
“And shit?” Tess asks, shaking her head.
Paige nudges her. “Just wanted to make it perfect for you,” she admits, all teasing gone from her tone. “Told you I had to make it worth your while.”
“It was perfect,” Tess says honestly. “You could have asked me anywhere, anytime, and I would say yes. I love you. But I did really like the pictures.”
Paige pulls back to grin at her. “Thought you would,” she murmurs, leaning down to kiss her gently. “I love you, too. Is it too early to call you Mrs. Bueckers?”
Tess pushes her away with a hand to her chest, affronted. “For the record, we’re hyphenating,” she declares. “Mrs. and Mrs. Bueckers-Kennedy.”
“Might not fit on the jerseys,” Paige goads.
“We’re gonna win the Valkyries a couple of championships,” Tess says. “They’re going to have so much money they’ll figure out how to get our names together on the jerseys.”
Paige smiles again. “That works for me,” she says, softer this time. She presses her lips to Tess’s again, pulling her flush against her body, enveloping her in a warmth she’s content to feel for the rest of her life. Tess grins against her, but Paige responds with a smile of her own, not minding, only holding her tighter.
She doesn’t know how to explain it – this overwhelming happiness. She’s engaged – oh my God, she’s fucking engaged; her parents are going to lose their mind – and she has everything she’s ever wanted. That much was true years ago when she had her natty wins and her girlfriend, but now? She has her fiance and the promise of a future together, on the same team, in the same house in the Bay, and all she really knows is that she can’t wait to walk down that aisle whenever the time comes.

Even if she have a strong and personality, because of her abilities her behavior with others can have significant changes. She is a behavioral “shepeshifter” for reaching her purposes, making hard to understand which one is the “real” Thena.
Her story can be read in a gathering of oneshot (part of an au) i am actually writing, she’s the main character and we see her adventures (and not only) during the clone wars and after order 66. these stories are not public yet.
Down here a bunch of doodles, sketchs and drawings of her cuz she’s my roman empire (also old models and baby ones) lmaoaoaooa

Fanfiction writing asks -- 5, 8, 12
5. How many wips do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?
UUUHHHHH wips that I've actually started (outlines included)? I've got the Jamie Tartt had a kid fic, the Joe/Nicky raise Booker au, technically my xmen fic Ethereal is always a wip so I count it even though I haven't started the next chapter, two Eternals fics (focused on Sersi) (one of them is the Sersi/Thena/Gil poly fic), and I think that's it.
8. Post an out-of-context spoiler from a wip
technically from a non-started wip but a line I think about ALL the time:
“You deserve protection too.”
12. Do you outline your fics? If yes, how detailed are your outlines? How far do you stray from them?
I sometimes outline my fics, but it depends on how important the outline is to me for the fic - if the plot is scattered in my mind and I need to plan it out on paper to get my thoughts in order, or if I'm writing about a serious topic and want to give it proper respect and don't want to go in without a plan, or if it's going to be a long fic and I need a plan.
Details depend on the length of the fic. If it's a oneshot, even a long one, I'll just go into the characters actions and thoughts step by step. If it's a longer fic, I don't want to get bogged down by the details and so I'll just keep the broader strokes, with attention to smaller details if they come to me and I want to remember them.
I usually try to stay on path for the outline. Things can take a turn as I write the story, but for the most part if I have an outline, I have it for a reason, and I want to stick to it.

To Find And To Lose
Summary: Thena has tried so hard to find everything that she had initially lost, that when she does, she loses it once again

Mortals were made to die, they only lived so long. They were not eternal which was a due shame however it was the natural order that was not to be messed with. And that was Thena’s code of date, she did not interfere with anything where there were others to pick up the pieces, nor if there were heroes that protected the worlds. She had served her duty back in the days when her and her family helped humanity balance on their feet and taught them how to survive, that was enough until they finally put an end to all the warfare that they shot at one another and the violence that rounded every block that they resided in. Thena had done her part for now as she saw it, and thus she walked through the white corridors, through the hospital until she ran into a doctor. This was not her sticking her nose where it didn’t belong, it was something different, a personal matter that she was attending.
The woman lead her to the room of the patient that she described, soon finding the feeble old woman resting. It brought a smile to the blonde’s face as she looked upon the lady that was asleep. No one knew about this attendance other than her, it was something that she kept very private, she was her weak spot and if anyone knew, then they would surely see it unfit for her to lead, as she had fallen for a mortal that was wasting away in an alabaster room. It was her motto to not get involved, and so she stuck by it as she hurt herself by refusing to elongate this woman’s life. Her name was y/n, once they had fell in love, but one half of the relationship did not remember as she awoke, weakly sitting up in the bed and looking at the immortal as though she were a stranger.
“Who are you?” Her voice croaked as she scanned her visitor, her wrinkled eyes squinting at the person that was sitting in the chair beside her; no one ever sat there unless it was one of those people in the blue scrubs or white coats playing with the tubes that went through her body. The question pained Thena, but she remained strong for the both of them as she did each time that she visited, and faked a swell smile. Her hand reached for y/n’s whom accepted the contact warily, her eyes boring into her dullen y/e/c ones as though it was the instance of which they had first met.
“I’m Thena.” She had to introduce herself many times, in fact each time that she visited, and she feared that this would be the last time that they would see one another. “I understand that you do not remember me my dear one, but I do you. We had spent many years together until I had to go back home, and when I returned you were gone. Until I found you again, and that is what I have been doing for quite some time, finding you.” Although she was certain that y/n had no idea of what she was talking about, she still smiled, not used to someone conversing with her so sweetly.
“That’s lovely.” Y/n replied, her mouth spreading to show her teeth. “But I- what was I saying?” Thena wished to know too, for a moment she had the hope that y/n had remembered them, but like a breath of cold air it was gone in a second, only sparing a second to be seen by the naked eye. Thena closed her lids, pressing a kiss to the back of y/n’s hand as she recounted the numerous times that she had done so. If it were not for their indifferent cultures and life spans, they would no doubt have lived out this life together, in a harmony that no one would have the concern to split apart. They’d have gotten married, bought a house and adopted a few kids, and Thena still dreamt of that, but that was all that was now, a dream that got further and further away as each day pass.
Perhaps in another time line they had experienced a chance to truly be happy together, she could only pray that had been the case. “Tell me about your life; or what you remember of it.” Thena spoke, watching as y/n’s face contorted for a moment, losing herself in what of her life returned to her via her mind. Each time it was a little something here and there, the whole story of y/n y/l/n was a mystery, there were no records that revealed the truth, but she had been someone to remember, that was how Thena saw her to be at least. She had always been brave and strong and one to stand up for others; she had been a hero whom had damaged herself on her journey to save the world. And that was why Thena had loved y/n, as much as she hated the sacrifice’s that she had made, it was what y/n had spent her days as a mortal doing, it was who she had become after their partition.
“I believe I went back in time.” Thena feared that this was to be nothing more than an elderly person’s delusional tale, but she dared not to interrupt, she wanted to have her fill of y/n’s words until it was too late. “To return these things called infinity stones.” At that the immortal froze, well aware that they were indeed real artifacts that the avengers had searched for. “My friend Steve was going to go, however I stopped him. I wanted to leave the age I lived in and go back, make things right and search for the woman I loved, I went to Greece in the 70s, that was our place. But she wasn’t there, Thena wasn’t there.” Tears fell from Thena’s eyes as she listened to y/n, feeling drunk from happiness as her past lover spoke, she continued to hold her hand close to her mouth, realising that all this time of returning to the avenger was not a waste, she had broken down the barriers of y/n’s mind over time, and it had all clearly paid off. “What did your name was again?”
“It’s me. Thena.” Y/n just stared at her, it felt like something out of a movie, that was until the machine beside her began to beep precariously, and many employees of the hospital rushed in, guiding Thena out as they attempted to resuscitate y/n. But as they shut the door, Thena felt as though it was no use, more so as she heard them record her time of death. A sad smile expanded to her face as she put her hood up, staring through the glass window of the room, never having felt so much pain in all of her thousands of years in existence. “Until the next life y/n.” She turned, leaving the scene as she went to return back home to get the team that she herself were in back together.

Beautiful, Beautiful ❦
You were the Sun, and he was the Moon. He was fire, and you were ice. You were Persephone and he was Hades. Destined to be, eternally.
He vowed to never leave you. You were his whole heart, his reason for existing, and he loved you for 6,500 years.
And he never broke his promise.
Druig x Eternal F!Reader
Summary: how you and Druig fell in love.
Part Two
It took Druig approximately 300 years to finally realize that you were more than just an ally. And then it took about 200 years for him to realize you were more than just a friend. He loved you. He couldn’t describe how he felt, it was so intricate yet delicate, as if with one touch he’d ruin it. It was similar to a breath of fresh air after swimming in the river. The colors of sunsets. Gentle, yet powerful all the same.
He dreamt of you in Mesopotamia, when he fell asleep to the Milky Way. The early days where the purpose was fighting Deviants and emotions couldn’t get in the way of the mission. But in the night, Druig couldn’t help but let his mind wander to the possibilities, especially when they could go home to Olympia.
Decades turned into centuries. Humans died but more were born. The Eternals moved to Babylon. Trees grew taller, streams became rivers, but Druig’s love for you remained unchanged. He felt cursed but in the best way. The mission didn’t matter anymore to him, only you.
The nights become unbearable. He drifts off and wakes up alone, thinking of your mouth, your skin, your bright eyes, everything. All of it. He’s intoxicated but he doesn’t give a damn. He wanted you to himself, just you and him. Only you, forever.
He watched Sersi and Ikaris have what he didn’t. But instead of feeling discouraged, he only felt a spark. But Ajak made sure that spark became a forest fire.
“You love her. We do not know how much time we have here. Tell her how you feel.” Ajak could only smile at how truly lovesick the once brooding Druig had become. She had a keen eye and saw how he looked at you. His gaze would linger, his facial features softening, his frown becoming a relaxed smile.
She also noticed the small glances you made at Druig as well. You fidgeted with your fingers when flustered, which is what you did constantly around Druig. You protected him the most with your telekinesis powers during battles against the Deviants. Lingering touches.
The love between you and Druig was a beautiful love forged from longing during the centuries.
You thought of him at night when you couldn’t sleep. The way he would look at you, so soft and gentle. He hated everyone but you, only you. His eyes on you constantly. You clutched your chest where your heart slammed against your rib cage.
It all came crashing together when Druig got knocked aside violently by a Deviant’s serpent-like tail. You could hear Druig’s sudden gasp of surprise as the tail crushed his ribs and sent him flying across the sand. You let out a cry of fright and sorrow, and without thinking, you run to his collapsed body.
“Druig! Druig!” You outstretch your hands and his body moves on his own towards you, and you fall to your knees to catch him in your arms. You cradle his head in your arms, ignoring the resuming battle around you.
Ajak appears before you call out for her, kneeling down next to you. She opens her mouth to tell you to rejoin the battle, she can heal Druig, and that everything would be alright.
“No, Ajak, I cannot leave him,” you brush his raven hair from his blood-soaked forehead.
She said nothing, only healing him with a wave of her hand. The blood disappears from Druig’s forehead and his eyes snap open like a wild animals.
“Druig,” you whisper, crushing him in a hug and falling on top of him. “Druig, you’re all right. Oh, I was so worried…”
Druig almost passed out again from what was happening. He shakily lifted his hand and cradled the back of your head, letting himself close his eyes in relief.
“You’re all right,” he murmured. “Good.”
“No, you’re all right! I thought…,” you leaned back and he saw your eyes filled with unshed tears. “Don’t leave me like that again.” You close your eyes and the tears began to fall from your lashes.
Ajak only watched in bewilderment when Druig softly wiped them away from your cheeks. “Beautiful, beautiful Y/N, I could never.”
It was new love, precious and gentle like a summer breeze. Druig spent every waking moment with you while you worked on building structures, buildings, and homes for humans across Babylon with a wave of your hands. You both would explore hidden natural treasures Babylon had to offer. Sneaking small, delicate kisses. Hands intertwined. Then he would walk you to your bedchamber, leaving you with the feeling of his lips on your own.
“My beautiful, beautiful girl…,” he’d murmur into your hair, lips ghosting the shell of your ear, making you shiver. Hands on your hips, waist, everywhere. “You have stolen my heart.” Lips on your neck, collarbone, throat. You would think he’d put those thoughts in your head on purpose, but no. You were falling in true love with him, and so was he.
He’d make his true feelings known in the dark of night, whispering his love for you in your ear, just like how you had imagined it during previous nights alone. He’d have you against a wall in your bedchamber, breath hot and heavy from the jog from the roof to here. It was innocent, but when he saw you in that dress and a flower in your hair, he had to tell you his true feelings.
“I love you, Y/N, my beautiful girl.”
A kiss on the shell of your ear.
“You are a dream…you’ve stolen my whole heart.”
A small bite to your earlobe.
“Druig-“ your whisper was cut off by a chaste kiss, his large hands cupping your face, tilting your head up to meet his lips.
“My Y/N, I love you.”
“Druig…I love you.”
“Don’t leave me,” he’s dragging his lips slowly down your neck, and you bite your lip.
“Never,” you hold the back of his neck, nails slightly scratching him, and he pulls back so his eyes could meet your own.
“And I’ll never leave you, my darling. Nothing in the universe could tear us apart.”

See You Again
Summary: Thousands of years after going your separate ways, Druig shows up at your apartment with his signature smirk and some bad news. You find yourself falling in love with him all over again…or maybe you never fell out of love.
Word Count: 1.4k

“Druig! Druig wait!”
You felt your face get hotter as you rushed down the steps of the Aztec pyramid, closer to the raging fire plaguing the town, and closer to Druig. Smoke from burning buildings and burning bodies filled your lungs, and you had to fight for every breath you took. When you reached the last stair, you tripped over your feet, stumbling forward and into Druig’s back.
He whipped around, eyes glazed over and clouded as his powers worked their inexplicable magic.
“You’re just gonna leave like that?” You snapped, adjusting your dark red suit. Your eyes bored into his own, fiercely glaring at him. But it was helpless- when he used his powers, his eyes, the tether to all his compassion and empathy, vanished. You knew it came from a place of love, of wanting to protect the humans from themselves. But he was losing himself along the way.
“You heard what happened, they don’t want me there,” he asserted, tilting his head sardonically. “How dare I question the authority of our great leader Arishem?”
“That’s not true,” you told him. “Ikaris is stoic, cold even. But everybody else… you’re our family, Druig. They love you, I love you.”
You could see the white in his eyes flicker and his deep brown eyes shine through. He dropped his head down to the ground and clenched his jaw tightly, as if he were conflicted.
“My beautiful, beautiful [Y/N]…” he started.
Why does he sound like he’s about to say goodbye.
He lifted his head, brown eyes completely on display now, and softly smiled at you. It was infectious, and soon you felt your own lips quirking upwards to mirror his. He cupped your face in his palms and ran his calloused thumb over your cheek before pressing a delicate kiss to your forehead.
“You always see the good in me,” he continued, sighing. “But you belong here, with Ajak, my darling. I know where your heart lies-“
“It lies with you-“
“It lies with your duties, your morals. That’s something I’ve always admired about you,” he told you firmly.
“I feel the same about you,” you said, voice cracking as a lump grew in your throat.
“Then you know now our paths go in two different directions.”
His expression was unreadable. You swore you could see tears in his eyes, but knew he would never let them fall. He considered himself too strong for that. Instead, he pressed his forehead against yours and took the sight of you in one more time.
“This isn’t goodbye, not permanently,” you told him, locking eyes. “I’ll see you again, I will.”
He shot you his signature smirk that never failed to melt your heart, his sad eyes now filling with mischief.
“Then I look forward to that day, my darling.”
-
The Brooklyn chill ran up your spine as you rushed down the block to your apartment. You quickly greeted your doorman before racing up the stairs onto your floor, stumbling with the keys in your hand. A sight of relief left your lips as you opened your front door and basked in the warmth of your heated apartment.
“Finally,” you mumbled, dropping your bag onto the floor, slipping your jacket off onto your dining table chair and letting out a tired sigh. You flicked the light switch on and turned to head towards the couch when you noticed a dark figure sitting there. Your squeal echoed around the studio as you clutched your heart at the unexpected scare.
“What the fuck, Druig!”
The man broke into maniacal cackles at your reaction, falling over on the cushion and holding his stomach.
“That was not funny!” You scolded, crossing your arms over your chest and huffing. “I haven’t seen you in centuries and this is what I get?”
He rolled his eyes at your theatrics before pulling himself off the couch and towards you. You noticed he had something in his hands, but that he was hiding it behind his back so you couldn’t see it.
“What is that?” You asked him, furrowing your eyebrows.
“Well, my darling, I was looking around your place and couldn’t help but notice this emerald tablet,” he told you, smirking and pulling it out from behind him. “And here I thought you never got it.”
You tried to snatch it out of his hand, but he was too quick, maneuvering it out of your reach. He took your movement as an excuse to inch closer to you, until you were nearly nose to nose. You could practically smell the worn leather of his jacket.
“My beautiful, beautiful [Y/N], did you miss me?” He whispered seductively. You could feel his breath on your face.
“You wish,” you teased, smiling at him. “But… and not that I’m not happy to see you, but why are you here?”
His flirtatious smile dropped immediately, as if his heart had just split open for everyone to see.
“Druig?” You questioned softly, concern lacing your tone.
“Ajak is dead,” he spoke clearly. “The deviants are back.”
His voice may have been firm, but the look in his eyes betrayed him, displaying a deep grief and sadness you’d never seen him have before.
Your eyes widened, surely filled with the same pain, but the shock was too great for them to fill up with years just yet.
“No. That’s not possible,” you said, breaths quickening at an alarming pace. “I just talked to her a week ago. I mean it wasn’t really a full conversation, she texts like a grandma, but she can’t…she can’t be dead.”
“I’m so sorry, my love,” he whispered, his voice raspy and hoarse as he held you close. “But you have to come with us. The team is outside…they thought it would be best if I broke the news. After you, we’re headed to the Domo to find Makkari.”
It wasn’t until you felt salt on your lips that you realized you were crying. And it wasn’t until you felt the roughness of Druig’s fingertips that you realized he was wiping them away for you. You pressed your forehead into his, almost cuddling him, and sniffled.
“Sorry,” you whispered, voice breaking.
“No need to be. Take your time, those assholes can wait.”
You chuckled and leaned further into him, wrapping your arms around his waist and snuggling into his chest. You felt him nuzzle his head into the crook of your neck, pressing soft kisses to your skin.
“I love you too,” you heard.
“W-What?” You stuttered, pulling away from his embrace slightly. He was no longer smirking, his mouth now stretched out in the most beautiful and genuine smile you’d ever seen him wear.
“You said it to me, back in Tenochtitlan. I never said it back,” he explained. “I’ve been thinking about that moment for 2,000 years, my darling [Y/N]. But I do. I love you so much.”
“I love you,” you whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “I love you, I love you, I love you.”
With each profession of your love, you left a kiss on any area of his face you could reach- his cheek, nose, forehead, chin. Finally, you stopped right in front of his lips, eyes flickering to his to see if it was okay. Before you could react, he surged forward, capturing your lips with his own. He was a passionate man, and his kisses were no different. He wrapped his arms around your waist tightly, not allowing for any space between your bodies. All you could think about is how you wanted to feel his warm body pressed up against you for the rest of your eternal life.
Your arms snaked around his shoulders, fingers entangling with his soft, dark hair and pulling on it gently. He groaned into the kiss, lips sliding possessively over yours. It was like a secret language only the two of you knew. Your native tongues.
You both pulled away from each other once all the air had escaped your lungs, causing heavy panting between your smiles.
“What do you say, beautiful? Want to go kill Deviants together?” He asked, lifting his eyebrows playfully.
“I thought you’d never ask, my love.”

druig x female!reader
you were sitting on the grass with a book and an apple in your hands. it was a warm and chilly day, no fighting with the deviants or training with all of your group.
not that you didn’t like spending your time with them - you actually loved those moments - but you were always so talkative and full of energy that sometimes you needed to recharge your social battery.
“hi” sersi’s voice was soft but it scared anyways. “sorry, didn’t want to interrupt.”
“no problems, sit here” you pointed to your side and gave her an apple. the tree at your back was filled with them. you heard she puffing. “are you okay?”
“yeah. it’s just ikaris. he left all those years and now he’s confusing me.” she said with a sad expression.
you always told her not to trust in ikaris. actually you loved him at the beginning, but he appeared in london out of nowhere, saying ‘i came to check on you because of the earthquake. the deviant is news for me.’ your powers could sense lies and he was definitely telling one.
“i’m team dane. and because of that i guess that you know what i’m going to say.” you said, closing your book. “sorry, sersi, i think you should forget about him. but you know that our mind does not rule our heart.” your friend laughed.
“if someone was listening to this and didn’t know you, they would think that you have a love life.” you laughed as well.
“thanks arishem that no one was listening” you winked. “it’s getting late.” you said looking to a beautiful sunset in front of you, it took your breath away.
“you can stay there. i know how much you like connecting with the nature” sersi said already leaving.
you wish you could just stop this moment. but even an iphone couldn’t capture what you were feeling. the wind in your hair. the smell of grass, sunflowers and apples. the stars shining upon you… but of course he had to interrupt.
“beautiful view.” you rolled your eyes, trying not give to him the power of ruining this pretty moment. “did you miss me?”
ugh. of course not! he was always picking on you. trying to control your mind. being cocky. and trying to be better than you.
“oh, druig. i was appreciating this view but then you happened.” you stood up to stare his annoyingly beautiful face.
“sorry, love. but i thought you would like some good company.” he smirked staring at your mouth. you could hear your own heartbeat.
it was your first time seeing druig after centuries. you denied going to his new ‘home’, it wasn’t comfortable seeing him again. “i see that all these years were good for you”
“i wish i could say the same, druig”
but you both heard a loud noise and people screaming. you looked at each other, knowing what have arrived in amazon - the deviants.
you started running and druig controlled human’s mind just to start shooting at the huge monster in front of them.
you were a magician, meaning that your powers could confuse his mind, changing his feeling and the sight he was seeing. with that he wouldn’t be so agitated. an easy way to stop the animal.
it was all so quick. sersi turned him into a huge tree. thena appeared with gilgamesh dead and you couldn’t help but cry. the deviants are getting stronger and killing your family. that made you feel more angry and thirsty for revenge
“we can’t stay here anymore”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
after that fight the eternals went for phastos and, finally, makkari.
“i’ve missed you so much” you signed to her receiving a tight hug and a bright smile.
“not as much as i did” she signed back.
“ok, guys. now we have to plan what we’re going to do” ikaris said, and you rolled your eyes.
“i need to control a celestial mind” sersi said and phastos showed golden bracelets explaining that you were going to use for absorb each other’s energy.
while this explanation, druig was by your side. he was extremely close and you could feel his breathing. “you look so pretty when you’re concentrated.” he whispered in your ear.
“and you look so pretty with your mouth closed” you said but you couldn’t avoid a tiny smile on your face. he was messing with your heart and he knew that.
after the reunion you and druig went to eat something. “you know, i’ve missed you in my life” the boy said, and you thought it was another joke, but he looked so… lovely. “and i know you did as well”
“ugh, in your dreams, druig” you rolled you eyes, trying to be tough in that situation. but you know you’ve missed him. you actually love when he’s around you, touching your skin, picking on you. he didn’t do that with anyone else.
“no, y/n, really. let’s stop being so cocky with each other. i passed all those years in amazon trying to forget about you, but i couldn’t” he said, getting closer. “when i saw this smile again i knew that i couldn’t avoid this awkward feeling… i guess that is love, the humans call it like that.” you laughed softly. “since arishem brought us to life, i knew that we had an invisible string tying you to me.”
your eyes were wide open, your cheeks were red and you were wordless. “dru…”
ikaris interrupted you by entering in the room, burning all phastos’s work with his eyes.
“what the fuck are you doing?” you asked terrified.
“he lied to us” sersi entered in the room, crying. “he already knew about the emergence. he killed ajak”
“what?” you exclaimed, walking to him. “no, you didn’t!”
“y/n” druig tried to hold you, but nothing could stop your urgency to punch his face. but, ikaris was faster than you and punched your stomach.
“touch her again and you’ll die.” druig said controlling his mind.
ikaris’s mind was stronger so he pointed the laser in your direction but druig placed his body in front of you, felling on the ground by your side.
“you’re not going to hurt your family.” kingo said forcing ikaris to fly away.
you looked to druig and saw a deep cut in his shoulders. “no no no” you said in disbelief, your eyes watering. “i’m so sorry.”
“i’m fine, honey, i’m fine” he said smiling while you put his head on your lap. “i saved you” he smirked.
“yeah, you did.” you laughed with tears falling down your cheeks. “nothing and no one will cut our invisible string. i love you, dru” you said, kissing his cheeks.
“i love you too, darling”

you were all still mourning the loss of gilgamesh, thena more than any of you. you felt like someone had reached into your chest and had a tight grip on your heart, your lungs, your insides. another one of you, killed by a deviant. you bit down hard on your bottom lip, eyes unable to move from gilgamesh's cold, lifeless body, thena crying over him. you should've done more to prevent this from happening. you all should've done more. you couldn't imagine the pain thena was experiencing. you didn't think you'd be able to function, let alone carry on living, if you lost your person.
speaking of.
"you're bleeding," his frame was suddenly in front of you, blocking your line of sight. his thumb grazed your bottom lip, tugging it out from under your teeth that had drawn blood from the pressure. your eyes slowly moved up from his chest in front of you, and up to his blue eyes.
your tongue ran over your bottom lip, sampling the metallic taste of your blood trickling from the split. he watched you with caution, he knew that expression far too well. he had seen it when you found about ajak, he had seen it when you watched the city of babylon burn, and he saw it now watching your family in ruins.
his fingertips trailed across your cheeks, grazing a few cuts a bruises that littered your skin, before settling into the curve of your neck. his thumb tracing your jaw, his fingertips just touching the roots of your tousled hair.
your eyes glossed over as your mind raced faster than you cared it to. you thought about the mission you were on, a crusade against your creator. you thought about ajak, gilgamesh. you thought about thena, her heartbreak. your mind wandered to the many outcomes of this mission. your mind wandered to druig, the sweat lining his brows, his tired blue eyes, his longing for a second of peace and quiet among this chaos. you thought about losing him, how your insides would simply give up if you didn't have him. you'd be incomplete, a shell of yourself. a version of yourself you didn't want to exist.
"stop," he ducked his head slightly to meet your eyes again as they drifted away from his in thought. you felt his hands either side of your face now, keeping you in his line of sight.
he wouldn't go into detail about how much he was hurting from losing another member of the family in such quick succession. he wouldn't burden you with his fears for your safety, his fear of losing you like he had lost ajak and gilgamesh. only it would feel much worse than this, he was sure. he lived and breathed for you. and what would be much to everyones surprise (but yours) he felt much more than he let on. especially for his family. even the ones he claimed to hate.
druig was the stoic, but brooding and menacing eternal. only you had brought out something else in him. he felt lighter around you. and he'd hate to see what he'd become if he lost you.
"stop putting those thoughts in your head," he mumbled softly to you. his heart tightened watching you mourn for now, and for what was inevitable.
"you're not allowed in my head without permission," you scalded, your frown weakening as his eyes remained stuck on yours.
"'wouldn't dare, m'love," his eyebrows knitted in a frown that was quickly lost. he couldn't be mad at you, certainly not now when you were such a dismantled version of yourself. hurt and discouraged. "i know that face, and i know you. so quit thinking."
"druig.." your voice trailed off weakly, defeated. "i just don't know how we can do this..."
your eyes were pleading with his to understand. but he already knew. he never had much faith in this plan, or it's chances at success. but knowing his usual pessimism wasn't much help to you right now, or at any time, he took a different approach.
"we will," he shook you gently, your sad eyes boring into his and picking him apart. "ok?" he raised his eyebrows. "for gil and for ajak. we won't let ‘em die for nothing."
you watched him carefully, waiting for him to crack, only he didn't. you didn't know how he managed it sometimes. you knew he had an untapped level of anger and frustration inside him, an untapped level of power that he would never unleash on you or anyone. he wasn't the type, despite what people thought of him.
you didn't say anything, only gave him a look. druig leaned closer, his forehead rested against yours, grip tightening on you before he pulled you into his arms.
"you're ok, and i'm ok," he mumbled into your ear, feeling your arms clinging around his torso, desperately holding onto him. "just focus on that for now, ok?"
you nodded weakly, your face smushed against his chest, letting the breath be taken from your lungs if it meant you could stay this close to him for longer. you felt safe for only a minute, protected in a bubble that he'd created. this was the very reason druig had been your person since you'd met those thousands of years ago. he understood you, your thoughts and your meanings, without having to use his powers. and you saw him for what he really was, a caring and gentle being who hated any kind of conflict, no matter how big or small. you accepted each other as you were, and beyond that, you loved one another.
you breathed in his scent, letting him hold you as long as you could without interruption. he kissed tbe top of your head, squeezing you tight for a second before pulling back. his arms still enclosed around you, your hands clinging to his shirt keeping him close.
"y'good?" he mumbled.
"better," your voice still soft. it was true your heart and lungs and insides felt less constrained, and your mind less likely to wander to anything other than the man in front of you.
later that night, you lay in your shared bed with druig after your long day. collectively you and the rest of the family agreed you could all use a break, to try and sleep off the heavy day you’d all had before continuing with the mission tomorrow. druig had joined you in bed after a long night of settling the people of his village back into their routine, reassuring them after a traumatic day.
he had come into the room, shoulders slumped, bags under his eyes and his eyes drooping shut as he walked around undressing himself before climbing in next to you. he had expected you to be sound asleep, exhausted as much as he was. instead, you were wide awake, waiting for druigs warmth to consume you.
which he did, shuffling under the covers to get closer to you, eventually wrapping both arms around you and pulling you tight against his chest. you pressed a soft kiss to his bare chest, curling into his embrace and draping an arm over his stomach.
"i love you," you whispered against his skin, goosebumps forming where your lips touched his chest. "i'd be so lost without you."
"good thing i'm not going anywhere," he mumbled tiredly, resting his head atop of yours, his cheek smushing up as he did. "'fraid you're stuck with me for a long, long time, m'love."
"good," you kissed his chest once more, snuggling your face into it and squeezing him. "that's how i want it."
a very short, exasperated laugh left his throat, his eyelids drooping as he relaxed against you. he could feel the tension he held from the day still, slowly drifting away. "i love you more than i've ever loved anyone or anything."
"good or it would've probably made for a few awkward centuries," you teased halfheartedly, feeling your tire finally catching up with you now that you were safely tucked up in his arms.
"shut up," he mumbled, lips pressing a kiss to your forehead, you could feel the small smirk on his lips. "now go to sleep before i make you myself."
you gently nudged his side, making him squirm a little, releasing a small laugh, which you followed with one of your own. "asshole," you mumbled, scrunching up your nose at him. you'd never take these halfhearted threats seriously. he'd never used his powers on you, and you'd never used yours on him. out of respect and love, neither of you could hurt the other like that. "i'm gonna' tell everyone that you love to cuddle in bed, and curl up like a kitten when you sleep."
he snorted. "fine, i'll tell everyone about your weird fetish for my—"
you nudged him a little harder this time, making him laugh a little more. "the things i have on you, mister," you teased. "you're so lucky that i love you."
"oh, i know, don't worry— i know," he kissed your forehead with a gentle smile lingering on his lips. you were both quiet for a while, just embracing each other while you could. you thought druig had drifted off after while, until he spoke again. "feel any better?" his words were barely coherent, he was so sleepy and comfortable smushed against you, but he had to check.
"heaps," you mumbled in the same tired way. "thanks to you, my sweet."
"s'all i want for you," he said as he drifted off, you followed not long after him.

DRUIG (ETERNALS) X MORTAL!F!READER
Summary: With so much anxiety in your heart, you try to push Druig away and give him an out, yet he won't take it. Word Count: 2.5k Warnings: talks about mental health and mortality, and emotional content. alcohol consumption. A/N: this occurs in the five-year span of the Blip
The corners of the window seemed to be frosted over, conflicting with the warmth that filled the house. The wind pushed through the tree that shivered in reaction, sending one down your spine. Sitting curled up in your chair, the flakes that drifted through the air brought you some comfort as you felt too shaken to move. Lately, it had been getting too hard to get out of bed and put on clothes, but it was the bare minimum. But chains kept themselves anchored to your feet as you dragged yourself from the bed to your chair day after day.
It had been a month since you had last seen your beloved Druig and he was set to get in tonight. When you had first started to just see each other, the lengths of time that passed in seeing him didn't have such an effect on you. Yet when the two of you grew more serious in your relationship, he was honest about why he needed to leave for so many weeks at a time and his full identity. Sure, it was a lot to comprehend, but you were living a post-Blip world. So nothing was really that hard to believe, anymore.
After he left the last time to go back to the Amazon, it came at a time where you had started to hit a decline again. it could be a side effect of the wintertime or a reminder of another holiday season without those who didn't survive the Blip. No amount of self-care days or retail therapy could remedy the heaviness in your heart and the person who could offer you the most comfort was hundreds of miles away with zero signal.
It was a rainy afternoon in April when Druig let himself into the shared home. Instead of being met with a whirlwind of affection, there was silence. He knew that it was that hard time of year when you remembered all those lost, so he showed himself through the house in search.
He stalked up the stairs to first check your studio. It was a rational idea since you would shut yourself in there to release your frustrations with life into any form of creativity. He was only met with the same silence and pictures scattered across the floor. Some of the two of you over the past few years and others with friends and family members who he had never even met. Druig's eyes flickered over them with affection as events that seemed like only yesterday stayed captured, frozen into a moment.
Picking up one of the photographs, he examined it closer than the others. It was taken nearly five years ago when you had first started to consistently so Druig. The two of you were wrapped up in hats and scarves, and he was sporting his usual leather jacket. Even though his signature smirk had been captured, it didn't equate to your beaming smile that radiated both in-person and in pictures. Turning it over, he read the scribbled handwriting that dated the photo and events. First Snow Date with Dru.
He continued the search into the bedroom where the duvet sat unfixed and wrinkled from nightly use. Clothes were scattered around the laundry bin, but nothing was truly out of place. His lips pouted in thought as to your location until a soft whimper barely made itself audible.
Perking up, he followed the hoarse cry into the walk-in closet connected to the bathroom. He pushed open the door the reveal your form leaning against the bottom panel of the wall as stray tears rolled down your cheeks. Two pictures were tucked out of your crossed arms - one of your parents and another of the two of you when you first moved into the house.
"Oh, love," he spoke softly, taking a seat next to you. He pulled your frame into his arms to provide you with all the comfort he could. Your breath was shaky and he rubbed small circles onto your back to help you calm down, "I know, I know."
You felt like you had failed him... and yourself. You had been doing so good and now here you were again, fractured and forlorn. Nothing had brought a smile to your cheeks in weeks and the counters had collected layers of dust from your lack of motivation. Was there even an excuse for your grief at this point? Or were you just damaged?
These things pained you along with the realization that had settled in your bones. Your days were numbered and the chapters of your life were flipping by, no matter how much you needed to take a break from reality. The gray hairs that were tangled in your brush and the laugh lines that would sometimes peek out were signs of maturity. A concept that slowly broke your heart.
Were these signals just as noticeable to Druig? Or would he blink and you would be gone from his reality?
But before your mind could spiral any further, two arms tugged you into an inviting warmth - Druig. The corners of your mouth twitched upwards as you felt his breath tickle at your neck. His lips pressed a chapped kiss to your cheek, and his nose that was chilled like frostbite ran across your temple, "hello, beautiful."
You pulled yourself from his grasp, only to stand and give him a proper hug to welcome him back, "hi, Dru."
It didn't matter how hard you pretended to be giddy and smile at the moment, he could read you like a book. He knew that there was pain living in your heart and that the atmosphere he walked into had troubled you for weeks now. But it was something that could really be addressed once he had settled back in. Hopefully, his gifts would be able to serve as a little pick-me-up.
"It's the first snow of the season, so you know what that means," Druig smirked, raising a bag of goodies.
"You didn't-"
"I did," He admitted, pulling out a bottle of champagne and two glasses, "I had to, for my favorite person."
He pressed a kiss to your forehead and swiftly turned on his feet to walk into the open kitchen space. You followed behind him, padded feet making light stomps across the hardwood floor. Druig popped open the bottle using a party trick he had learned long ago by some colleagues in France. And even though you laughed at his behavior, it was a disguise of the natural joy that used to live in your tone.
The bubbly liquid was poured into two matching glasses. Handing one of them to you, he looked into your eyes and offered a smile, "I also bought stuff to cook dinner-"
"No, Druig... You just got home, let me cook fo-" He cut your speech off with his index fingers against your lips.
"I owe you a dinner after all the other times you cook when I return home to you, so let me treat you properly," he finger trailed down to take your hand without the champagne into his own, "please."
Scrunching your nose, you fell for the loving look in his eyes and admitted to a silent defeat. He raised your knuckles to his mouth, pressing soft kisses to each. His actions caused you to giggle as he spun you around and began leading you away from the kitchen.
"Great, now if you'll let me work my magic in here," he chuckled, shoving you towards the television, "I want you to look for something that we can watch together. I've been a month without your little baking shows and silly office specials so it is your job to get me caught up."
He placed you onto the couch with a blanket and the champagne bottle, as if you were a little Russian doll he could set on a shelf. A simper teased the corners of his mouth as his eyes took in all the details of your face. Druig nodded in some silent approval and trailed back over to the kitchen to leave you with the task at hand.
It was the most wonderful feeling to have Druig back and fill in the space that he left. A small smile fell upon your face as you saw his figure peak and dance around the kitchen in his own little world. Every glimpse of him had always made your heart skip a beat. Your attention turned back to the remote in your hands and the scrolling through various streaming services to decide on the movie of the night. And yet, your mind drifted away to other places.
Druig had placed the first box of books into the office that the two of you decided to turn into a shared library. Both of you didn't have much need for a full office space, so why not turn it into something that brought you together as a couple. The love of knowledge and books that you both shared was a special part of your relationship that you treasured while piecing together your library.
Building the floor-to-roof bookshelves had been quite a challenge and it turned out that Druig was a terrible handyman. You couldn't count how many times he had missed the nail and hit his thumb before you had to take over on hammer duty. He was instead much better at organizing and integrating your collected books together by last name, alphabetically. His attention to detail made him perfect for such a tedious job.
It was that same day that Druig told you the truth about his identity and immortality. He answered all your questions and recalled the stories of civilizations that he experienced firsthand. How could you react to such grand news as if it didn't carry the weight it did.
"(Y/N), did you hear me?" The suave voice drew you back into the present moment as he approached the couch with two bowls.
The steam swirled up into the air, signaling the hot contents within. Grabbing the bowl with caution, you let it rest on your thigh as Druig tucked himself in next to you, pulling part of your large blanket onto his lap. You pressed play on the remote and he began to dive into the soup. He picked up the bottle of champagne from the coffee table to refill his glass to discover that barely two glasses remained, "I guess it's a good thing I bought more than one."
"You know me," You tried to laugh it off, but you were slightly alarmed that you didn't recall drinking that much.
"It's alright, my love," He smiled as he sip at the golden liquid, "but please eat before your food gets cold."
Taking a few bites as well, it was really good, but you simply couldn't stomach it. Maybe it was the bubbly alcohol or just general anxiety; however, even the thought of food or the weight of your blanket was setting flares off in your head.
His slight laugh and scrunch of his eyes when something humorous happened on-screen caused your focus to settle on him. The object of your affections who had lived millenniums before you and would see more without you. How he managed to be entertained by your existence for this long was actually a surprise. He knew some of the most influential people that shaped humanity and was sitting on your couch as if it was his life's purpose.
The weight of this knowledge and realization hung too heavy on your chest. A tear streaked down your cheek, and your hand raised itself to wipe the evidence away before Druig could see. Yet your lover had a keen eye and snatched your hand into his, his blue eyes studying your glass ones.
"Why haven't you left me?" The words left your tongue, the champagne now spoke for you, "Why do you keep returning to me?"
"What kind of a question is that?"
"It- it's a serious one, Dru. What keeps you tied to me?"
Druig was confused and lost by the sudden change of atmosphere. Where did this even come from? He did everything in his power to demonstrate his love for you and to make sure you knew that he would never abandon you. So to question the reason for his loyalty...
"Druig, I am broken and I am plain. I am a child and yet I see my grave. Why do you stay?"
"Because I love you... Isn't that enough of an answer?"
"No... no," you cried, "Time is passing by us, passing through me. And all you can do is watch. I'm turning into an antique that you've collected for the shelves of your stories. There are plenty are pretty, young girls that you can cycle through without hesitation or a second thought of commitment. But you are sitting next to me."
Your words were like a faucet that kept running no matter how many times you turned the handle. All the thoughts and concerns you pushed to the back of your mind came pouring out and drowning you beneath their waves, "we are just biding time..."
"Please, (Y/N), I love you more than anything in this world or any other. I don't want to seek out youthful creatures for the rest of time, I want to enjoy every moment I have with you."
"But you shouldn't have to sit and wait for me to die!" You yelled, stumbling up and away from the couch. The cries were spilling out of you, capturing your breath in your lungs. Each rise and fall of your chest had grown quicker by the minute, and all peace left your body.
"Please, just leave me, and wipe my mind of you. I couldn't live if you ever grew bored of me or stayed out of pity," Your lips trembled and your arms clung around your waist in self-comfort.
Each action he made moved with this slowness as if he was freezing time for you. What Druig didn't say was that if he could stop the flow of the natural law, he would do it for you. It was never realistic to plan out a life with you when if he looked away for too long, you would disappear from his life. He had lived each day with you as if it were the last with you so that you would never question his love.
Now here you were, crying for him to just go ahead and tear off the band-aid for a future wound. Maybe it was selfish of him, but Druig couldn't ever bring himself to do such a thing. He pulled at your arms, bringing your shaking frame closer to hold you until the tears no longer stained your cheeks. Druig planned to keep you hostage in his arms until he physically couldn't.
"I will love you as the sun rises and falls. I will hold you as if you would vanish without my arms. I will care for you as the moon cares for the ocean. And I will keep you in my heart, to love and cherish, until such a time that I face my end."

BONUS: Eleni and Ikaris
Pariing: Ikaris and Eternal!Eleni requested by cherrysubsx
Summary: Ikaris and Eleni reunite after some time and end up living together. They find a relationship with one another to fill the holes in their hearts left by their exes.
Word Count: 2.3K
SPOILER WARNING: DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN ETERNALS
Eleni walked into her apartment, throwing her things down on the counter with a groan of frustration. Ikaris sat up from the couch, trying to stifle his laughter.
“Bad date?” He asked.
“I hate humans. You know, I ask myself a lot why we protect them when majority of the times men can just be such scum.” Eleni fell back onto the couch next to him.
“Ouch.” He chuckled.
“Are you really a man though?” She narrowed her eyes at him.
“Ouch.” He laughed, pushing her shoulder playfully.
“You know what I mean.” Eleni finally cracked a smile.
“You don’t hate humans.” Ikaris said softly. “If you did, you wouldn’t be living in the most populated city in the country.”
“I like the city. Not the people.” She replied. “Today marks ten years of you living on my couch by the way. Don’t make me start charging you rent.”
“I already told you I would help pay rent.”
The two old friends sat on the couch together in the silence for a bit before a feeling of sadness washed over Eleni.
“Do you miss Sersi?” Eleni asked. “Where is she now?”
“Yeah, I miss her from time to time. Not as much as I used to. And last I heard she was in London.” He answered after a heave sigh. “Do you miss Druig?”
“Not as much anymore. It still hurts, the way we left things. I think I’ll always love him, you know?” She answered. “Sometimes it feels like there’s this hole in my chest that will never get filled and sometimes I feel just fine.”
“I know what you mean.” Ikaris said.
“Why did you leave Sersi?” She turned to face him.
“There was a truth that I couldn’t tell her and I know that I would have said something if I had stayed. Don’t ask me because I won’t tell you either.” Ikaris had a thought that maybe he should tell Eleni. It’d be one more person to be on his side when the time finally came. They had gotten extremely close over the last decade and were practically best friends. She barely talked to any of the other Eternals anymore so if he did spill, it was unlikely that she’d go and tell anyone else. “Why didn’t you go with Druig?”
“I knew it wasn’t the right thing to do.” Eleni said. “But some part of me wonders what kind of person I would be today if I did go with him.”
“Do you think your hatred for Earth stemmed from that night?” He asked, referring to the night that Druig left her and the rest of them.
“I can tell you exactly where it stemmed from.” She rolled her eyes and let her head fall back onto the couch. “It was that night when everyone thought I had Mahd Wy’ry.”
“What happened that night?”
Eleni had never told anyone other than Druig this, but it felt right to tell Ikaris. They were best friends at this point and he had been sleeping on her couch for the past ten years.
“I had a breakdown. I grew jealous of what these mortals have. I wanted children. It’s so stupid when I think back to it. I can’t believe I acted that way.” She said.
“It’s not stupid.” He placed his hand on her knee. “It’s not. There was a time when Sersi and I wanted that for ourselves as well. But at the end of the day, we serve Arishem. Until we don’t, we can’t have those things for ourselves.”
Eleni subconsciously put her hand over his and looked at him. They stared at each other, each of them both thinking the same thing. It was brief and impulsive and neither one knew how the other would react but they both leaned in anyways and kissed.
They pulled away, and tried to brush it off. “That was weird right? Like we shouldn’t do that, right?” Eleni asked.
“Yeah. Totally weird.” He agreed and nodded his head while Eleni stood up off the couch. She put her hands on her hips as she watched him also stand up. He cleared his throat and gave her an awkward smile. The two best friends stared at each other again waiting for the other to say something. Then instinctively they reached for each other at the exact same time and kissed each other again. He grabbed her hips pulling him towards her and she was reminded of the night that her and Druig first kissed under the moonlight in the ocean. She shoved that thought to the back of her mind as she placed her hands on the side of his face kissing him deeply.
Not a single piece of the kiss felt right. She wasn’t Sersi and he wasn’t Druig. It didn’t feel right for either of them, but it temporarily filled the hole in their hearts. They found comfort in each other and that’s all they needed.
seventy three years later- 1980
Eleni woke up tangled in Ikaris’ arms, their bare chests pressed against each other, like she did every morning for the past eighty years. She carefully crawled out of bed and walked down to the bagel shop that they had been going to for years to get breakfast for her and Ikaris.
She returned to the apartment to see a happy Ikaris unpacking the boxes scattered around the apartment. They had just moved into a new one as they always did every few years. It was easy to live in New York because of the amount of people, they could just move to different parts and nobody would notice that they had lived in New York together for the past years.
“Ah, there she is.” He smiled and greeted her with a kiss.
“Good morning.” She replied handing him his coffee and bagel.
Their relationship was nothing more than just a relationship and they both knew it. Out of their almost ninety years together not once did they ever say “I love you.” They did love each other, they simply just weren’t in love and they never would be.
“Gilgamesh and Thena are coming to visit us.” Ikaris said. “I got the call this morning.”
“Wow. That’s out of the blue. They know we’re a thing right?” She asked sitting at the table to eat her bagel.
“I mean they know we live together.” Ikaris replied. “Have you told anyone that we’ve been together for the past ninety years?”
“Have you?” She shot back.
“Ajak knows.” He replied.
“Well she’s Ajak.”
“They’ll figure it out soon enough.” Ikaris said. “They may think it’s a bit weird though.”
Gilgamesh and Thena arrived at their shared apartment with a single suitcase containing both of their belongings later that day. Eleni was admittedly excited to see the pair because it had been almost 140 years since she last saw them. She greeted them with a hug and welcomed them into her home. Ikaris and Eleni quickly finished unpacking their home so it looked welcoming and warm and lit some candles before the got there.
“What a nice place.” Gilgamesh smiled.
“Thanks, Gil.” Ikaris said. “We just moved in a few days ago.”
“We wanted to come visit New York, see how it’s changed. Out of all the places on Earth, this places changes the most.” Gil said.
Thena looked around at the pictures of El and Ikaris and narrowed her eyes before noticing that there was only one bedroom in the apartment. “One bedroom?”
“We’ve always had one room. Ikaris slept on my couch for like ten years.” Eleni folded her hands together nervously laughing.
“And the other eighty three?” Thena questioned.
“Why don’t you and Thena go on a walk.” Ikaris suggested and Eleni nodded taking Thena’s hand.
Eleni and Thena walked arm in arm around central park, enjoying the cool morning air. It reminded Eleni of their morning walks around wherever they happened to be living at the time. Eleni and Thena had always been close and always had been sparring partners. Eleni was a good fighter when they arrived to Earth but her true skill comes from training with Thena for all those years.
“When did you and Ikaris begin this relationship.” Thena asked, looking around at the trees. It was so green compared to the barren desert that she and Gil lived in.
“In 1897, Ajak asked Ikaris to come see me. He ended up staying on my couch for a while, we were both lonely and turns out we really enjoyed each other’s company. One night we just kissed. Like we were talking and we ended up just kissing out of nowhere. Ever since then, we’ve just been together I guess.” Eleni said as Thena sat on a park bench to listen.
“Does it feel right after all this time?” She asked. Thena knew Eleni like the back of her hand.
“It didn’t feel right then and it doesn’t feel right now. I mean we haven’t even said ‘I love you’. I guess we’re both just lying to ourselves pretending we’re in this perfect relationship. It’s nice and I do love him, just not in that way. And I know that he doesn’t love me in that way either.” Eleni said, looking up at the trees. It felt like a weight off her chest to say all of this Thena. She had been carrying this feeling for the past eighty three years and it finally felt nice to say it to someone other than just in her head. It was easier for her to come to that reality.
“I think you and Ikaris did have to have some form of feelings for each other or this would have never happened. However, for both of you to continue this relationship is unfair. It may have temporarily filled this emptiness, but eventually that emptiness will return should you carry on.” Thena gave her wise words of advice and Eleni let every single one sink in.
“We were best friends. When he first came to stay with me it was like a sleepover every single day. Just laughing and happy all the time, and don’t me wrong, it’s still like that, but now we also do more uh... intimate things and I feel like we think we’re doing this service to ourselves to be with each other, but I think us just being friends was enough. We were still equally there for each other.” Eleni said.
“Eighty three years is a long time to these people.” Thena nodded at the passersby. “But to us it’s not even the slightest dent in our lives. You both still have so much healing to do from your past relationships.”
Eleni and Thena arrived back at the apartment where Gil had made a nice dinner for everyone. They enjoyed their time catching up with one another but eventually Gil and Thena departed.
Later that night Eleni sat criss cross in bed, facing Ikaris. He leaned forward and kissed her and at first she kissed back. She even straddled him before Thena’s words rang through her brain and she pulled away.
“What is it?” He asked.
“I think we should break up.” She said resting her hands on his chest still straddling him.
“Oh?” He replied, a hint of hurt present in his voice as his hands rested on her hips. “Where is this coming from.”
“We can’t keep pretending that this is what we want.” She replied. “We’re delaying the inevitable. This isn’t fair to either of us.”
“I see.” Ikaris nodded slowly still slightly confused as to where this all was coming from.
“I don’t think when Ajak sent you here she expected us to be each other’s rebounds. I have enjoyed our time together, but you and I both know that this isn’t right.” Eleni said. “Sersi would hate me if she knew I was with her ex.”
“Is this about Sersi? Eleni, that shouldn’t matter.”
“It’s not about Sersi, Ikaris.” She sighed covering her face for a brief moment. “I love you, Ikaris, and I always will. But we cannot keep lying to ourselves acting like we’re in love with each other. I will cherish our years together, but at the end of the day I am not her.”
“And I’m not him.” Her words finally got through to him and he nodded. “I can only imagine that reunion with Druig if he ever found out about us.”
“Yeah, he just might kill you.” Eleni laughed a little bit, resting her hand on his cheek. “I am grateful for you. This was a growing experience for both of us. Now maybe we’ll be able to move on. Actually move on.”
“I love you, El.” He smiled and kissed her forehead before he wrapped his arms around her and moved their bodies so they were laying down. They lay in each other’s arms that night for what they both knew was the last time.
Ikaris went on to live with Eleni for another seventeen years, just long enough to make a century. They still shared the same bed since Eleni didn’t think it was fair for him to sleep on the couch after everything they went through together. Things easily went back to normal as it was before their blossomed romance when Ikaris first arrived in New York City. Ajak succeeded in the end by sending him to her. What she wanted was for them to be there for each other and help them move on, and they may not have done it in the way she thought, but it worked more or less.
When he left, they both cried, but nonetheless that hole in their chests hurt a whole lot less.
author’s note: if you have not read the rest of the series this doesn’t really affect anything. i will probably write a short second part to this of where the rest of the eternals find out about their relationship including sersi and druig.
all the love

For Eternity ❦
Can be considered a part two to Beautiful, Beautiful. She is my whole heart, my fic child, thank you for giving her all the love.
Summary: when the Eternals separate, Druig sees his fantasy come true.
Pairing: Druig X Eternal F!Reader
Warning: implied sexy times but nothing explicit.
Druig has dreams, and they are painful glimpses into…something.
He can’t put his finger on it. The past? Future? The dreams seem like memories but he can’t recall them ever occurring. Perhaps they are visions of what’s to come. Either way, he wakes up with a start, his dreams always concluding with eruptions, screams, and explosions that make him shake with adrenaline and fear.
He sees the same explosions and fire below him where the humans wage war. Where they invade. Where they kill. His heart is shattering, and you can feel it just by looking at him. Everyone is tense, secluded at the top of a pyramid, watching, and waiting. Waiting for the night to turn into day, waiting for Thena to wake up…waiting for the humans to stop killing each other.
You remember how quickly the days pass, how decades are like minutes. But tonight feels like a century. The sky remains dark, with flame and smoke staining the sky like a poison.
Druig watches you hold Thena’s hand as you wait for her to wake. He can feel your sadness and confusion, and especially your pain. You both loved humans and watching them tear each other apart in war makes you both physically sick.
When Thena wakes, the Eternals are done. The last Deviant was killed, and with no purpose left, you were all able to leave and lead your own lives. And this day was supposed to be a celebratory day…and yet, you all stand silent. The centuries with each other have moved too fast to catch and to remember clearly.
But how Druig longed for that; to disappear from the others with you and to be hidden from the world. For once, he wants to be selfish and have you for only himself, and you not being used for the mission. He always wanted this, craved for it, to have a life of his own.
But seeing the humans slaughter each other below and him not doing a damn thing is tearing him apart with guilt. He has glorious powers and he could use them for good, for a bigger purpose than killing Deviants.
He raises his hand without thinking, and the commotion below everyone falters as humans drop their weapons and stand still, their eyes white and cloudy. You stride towards him, your hands grabbing his outstretched hand, and bringing it to your lips.
“Druig, you can’t,” you whisper against his fingers. “We can’t interfere.”
He stares at the humans below, knowing with a wave of his hand, he could end this. He could-
Ikaris barges through, interrupting his thoughts, and slams Druig against the stone of the pyramid. His hand is torn from yours as he struggles against Ikaris, his breath leaving his lungs.
“Don’t touch him!” You cry out, regaining your balance. “Don’t you dare touch him.”
“Y/N, stay out of this,” Ikaris doesn’t even look at you, he only glares at Druig.
“Let them go.” His voice is deep and frightening, but of course, Druig doesn’t stand down.
“You’re gonna have to make me.” He stares right back at Ikaris, unblinking.
“Druig, please,” you appear from over Ikaris’ shoulder. “We can’t interfere. And Ikaris, let him go before I make you.”
Ikaris does eventually let Druig go from his iron grip, and you shove him out of the way to get to Druig. You embrace him, your face in his chest, surrounded by his warmth. He hugs you back, his hand behind your head.
“Please let them go,” you’re shaking from adrenaline and being overwhelmed. “Please. Let’s just go, you and me…remember what we talked about?”
How could he forget? How could he forget how you wished you could live next to the beach, the salty air embracing you, the waves enveloping you both. How you wished for him to stay by your side forever, in a small cottage by the sea, where you could spend the rest of your days before you all left for Olympia.
He lets the humans go without another thought. And you knew, in that moment, he’d do anything for you.
“Let’s just go,” he repeats after you, his calloused hands holding your cheeks. His eyes are soft, as always when looking at you, and he gives you a small smile.
“Yes, let’s go, just you and me.”
He places his forehead against yours, his smile growing bigger.
“I’m yours forever, my love. Let’s go.”
So you do. You depart from South America and just go. The rest of the Eternals were happy and overjoyed that you both could find a life of your own together. And so we’re you. You were excited, because for once, Druig is only yours.
Centuries pass, and you and Druig spend lifetimes together in a small cottage by the sea. It’s made out of wood, built by you with a wave of your hand. No humans ventured this far to find you or Druig here, and you preferred it that way. You both spend your days by the ocean, letting the water go up to your knees. You both fish, you both find shells, you use your powers to move the water to collect them.
Life becomes a treasure together, a gift, because for once, the mission doesn’t exist. You could do whatever you wanted with the love of your life, so you do.
You both explore each other. There were centuries where you couldn’t even touch each other because of the mission. Now it’s different. He can touch you now, wherever, whenever, and however. You the same to him. For once, you both are unashamed to physically show each other how much you love one another. You spend hours just exploring his face, his eyes…just looking closely and commenting how beautiful he is. Eventually, this leads to exploring his mouth with your own. Then his neck, his collarbone, his bare shoulder, all of it. His bare skin is yours, he says so himself. All of him belongs to you, and only you. You regain the centuries back that were stolen from you both.
You both fall asleep in each other’s arms to the sound of waves, and wake up to the sun.
The sun hits Druig’s eyes first, and he blinks them open to see you still sleeping soundly on his chest, skin to skin. Your breaths are heavy, yet not as loud as the waves outside. He knows you probably want to be woken up, but he can’t. You’re so peaceful there, so delicate, his beautiful, beautiful Y/N.
“Why haven’t you woke me up yet, my Druig?
Your eyes are still closed, but you could sense him watching you. His beautiful eyes that watch you all the time, unable to look at anything else. Nothing else is as beautiful as you, his beautiful Y/N.
“I just couldn’t. You looked so at peace.”
He trades your cheekbone with his fingers, and you smile at his touch.
“Do I, now?”
“Yes. Do I?”
You’re eyes are fully open now, staring into his own.
“Yes, and it’s what you deserve.” His smile becomes bigger at your words, and he bends down to kiss your forehead. You sigh in content, snuggling into the crook of his neck, kissing his pulse there.
“It’s what we deserve, my beautiful, beautiful girl.”
