I had a fun three-day weekend.
As I briefly mentioned earlier, I went to Chicago. Thursday I stopped halfway and spent the night at a bed & breakfast in Baraboo, WI.
Baraboo is where the Ringling Brothers started their circus of the same name in 1884. The B&B I stayed it the former home of one of the brothers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
More after the cut.
I like the shared areas at B&Bs. There were only three other people there Thursday night. I didn't really get to mingle as they kept to themselves.
That typewriter would have been fun to use for my blog post. Sadly, it lacked wi-fi and Bluetooth connections. There was an old, hand-cranked phonograph in the next room that was fully functional.
Tumblr media
Downtown Baraboo has plenty of bars (because it's Wisconsin). There were a number of restaurants and cafes too. The two-story brick buildings I like in small towns were plentiful. I logged a lot of steps walking up and down the streets, peering into windows. This is another town where I think it would have been fun to stay a week and try more bars and restaurants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two breweries in Baraboo. Of course I visited both.
The first, I was told, has better food. Tumbled Rock is where I went for dinner and flight of beers. My burger and fries were most satisfying. The beer selection was impressive. Each of the five I sampled I would definitely buy again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I finished dinner I drove three miles back to my B&B and parked the car. Then I walked to the other brewery, the Al. Ringling Brewing Co.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inside was neat. The coolers behind the bar, filled with cans of beer, had wooden doors, mechanical handles, and glass panels. The bartender told me it was a functional refrigerator.
This place was also a former home of a Ringling brother. But it was a mansion. There used to be a bowling alley in the basement for the family. The bar top is made from old sections of the bowling alley floor.
One of the brews on tap was Cherry Pie Fruit Sour with Swedish Fish. The nice, young bartender told me the brewers add a bag of the candy fish to the mix while making the sour.
I said I hope a serving of it comes with a Swedish Fish candy garnish. She grinned and promptly brought me a glass of it with the a Swedish Fish garnish!
The mention of fish made me want to suggest a Pizza Flavored Goldfish Beer, or at least free bowls of my favorite little crackers in lieu of pretzels, but the bartender had other customers to tend to. I missed that opportunity to pitch my idea. Maybe I should write a letter?
Tumblr media
During my walk around town I noticed that Baraboo has a bit of a continental divide in its middle. At Oak Street, the numbered roads change from Avenues to Streets, or vice versa, depending on which way you walk. You can be at the intersection of 6th St and 6th Ave, and the two aren't even perpendicular.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next morning I joined the other B&B guests for a waffle breakfast. This time I socialized with them and the owners of the B&B. We learned about the history of the city and all about the Ringling Bros. and their circus.
Fun time. Afterward I took my time driving to Chicago. I timed it right to miss the worst of rush hour. More about Chicago in a later post.

Good morning, dearest friends! I'm delighted to say we're back from up north and it was a BLAST!!!
So first of all, whoo. what a drive. From the heart of the city to the softspoken winds of the water it was erm, give or take about 5-6 hour car trip. Ya girl got pockets of car sickness but I managed not to throw up so yay!
The four of us traveled through Traverse City and omg THE CROWDS BRO I COULDN'T. We did weave through the people to catch the air show, that was so cool! All you heard was the planes ripping through the sound barrier as you watch them do their tricks and spins and barrel rolls through that bright blue sky. They looked so close that you could reach out and touch them! So many cool tricks! The people were a little less than stellar, only because I get panicky in big gatherings, but the cherry pie was worth it. Soo worth it.
Okay, now, off to the Sleeping Bear Dunes! We arrive in fair time and pull up to the BIGGEST piles of sand I've ever seen with my own two eyes! I get nervous, a little dizzy just looking at this beastly climb, and immediately predict this is going to be the funnest nightmare ever. (I was right btw!) We all take a whiz then start climbing, each of us donning our breeziest most death-proof clothing we packed, and right away I resort to scaling the FIRST dune on my hands and feet, growling and howling like a monster and chasing after my boyfriend while other tourist watched and laughed. It was all fun and games until about the 11th pole marker on our never-ending hike. How long did it take, you may ask, to get through these sand hills? I will tell you, dear friend:
It took us, in grand total, a whopping 6.5 hours to get from the car, down to the beach, back to the car, all without the relief of adequate shade from any trees, and running dangerously low on water after we saw for ourselves that there were no facilities on the shore. No bathroom, no water fountains, just sand and lake and lots of cool rocks. We rationed the water we had for about the last 3 miles of our hike, only sipping enough to wet our mouths. When I tell you we got burned bad. My back is just now starting to peel. Turns out, after all was said and done, we had mistakenly taken the longest and steepest path there was coming and going. But we did it! And we didn't even need to call the rescue team (good thing too, hello $2,000 rescue bill, no thanks)! But watching some of these other people hike our way WITHOUT ANY WATER OR ANYTHING, I was like '???' So we went out of our way coming back to warn others that they might want to turn back and prepare for the worst. They were grateful to say the least lol.
From there we carried on towards Cadillac and meandered around the country roads until we found a cozy little hole-in-the-wall bar and grill and stopped off for dinner. The food there was excellent! My friends Cassie and Annette got a giant ceaser salad and mac n cheese with a side of fried cheese curds, my boyfriend David got a burger with fries and a side of mac n cheese, and I nibbled on a plate of veggies with a few fries on the side. I got something super light because I suspected I'd doze off in the car right after eating; sure enough, I was right lol.
From there we drove about an hour to our hotel room and packed it in for the night. Super nice little place, we lucked out and got one of the best rooms with lakeside view and a backroom door leading straight to the heated pool room. Everyone else stayed up for a bit, I was knocked out lol. We slept a few hours, got up the next morning and showered and whatnot, then took off for the local beaches for some serious rock and shell hunting. We found some neat stuff: David found some cool Petoskey stones and me and Cassie and Annette were chasing shells around the shore. We found a bunch of big snail shells and a few clamshells, I was hoping to dig up some gemstones somewhere like how I did out in North Carolina, but sadly no such luck this time. But that's okay. We beach hopped for a few hours, had a few seltzers in the sun, then began our journey home, saw a haunted-ass barn and belted out some car karaoke for a while.
Y'all, it. Was. The. BEST!!! It was the getaway we all needed and some amazing bonding time, even though we all nearly died out on the dunes lol totally worth it! We're already planning another vacation for next year, we wanna go gem hunting up in the mountains. Gonna be bomb!
I'm so glad to be home though. It's good to be back!

Today was another mostly resting day. I have a little cough and I keep feeling winded. But today was a nice day.
I woke up absolutely exhausted though. It was not fun. I was so tired. When my alarm went off I just felt so miserable. I texted Jess and James and just laid there for a long time.
When I did finally get up I decided that getting dressed would help me feel better. And I was mostly right. I washed my face and wore the new fleece my mom for me for Christmas. It helped. I wasn't doing amazing but I was alright.
Once I was dressed I decided I would go out. I got a drink and collected the bags of donations I have and headed out. I decided not to wear a jacket. Not for any specific reason. It was cold enough. But I did not want to carry it and because of climate change it was 45 degrees on December 30th. So it was fine. Even if it was windy.
I was a little stressed when I had less then a quarter tank of gas. And this is going to seem very silly but I do not pump my own gas. I have maybe done it a dozen times ever. And honestly probably less. I don't like it. I don't like the smell. I don't like the idea that it could spill. I have forgotten my zip code when paying and had my card declined. I cannot stand it. James pumps the gas. But it got forgotten about when they were running errands and so I was stressed I would have to do it.
So I wouldn't have to do it, I decided to not go to many places. I would go to savers and target and then I would go home.
I was feeling stressed though. I also didn't want to look at clothes really. And I didn't want many things. So while I enjoyed looking I wasn't there for long. I enjoyed my podcast and I enjoyed walking around. And I did find a couple neat things. This beautiful doll bench. A new bento box, in the same brand as the one I use all the time so it'll be nice to have a second. A basket for the windowsill for all the things I like having near me in bed. A ridiculous pair of orange pants for camp. I had fun.
After I paid I headed to target. I was hoping they were going to have the new girl scout cookie deodorant but they did not. I'll try again next week. But I was happy to get some 70% off chocolate from Christmas. And I tried a new dry shampoo that I'll keep at work. My hair felt kind of greasy in the back and I am annoyed about that. I for sure want to budget to get a perm again, because it didn't really get greasy when it was curly. I will have to make an effort to find someone to do that. Maybe near work.
I went home after that and was still very stressed about gas but thankfully it was fine. James would fill the tank later.
I was pretty hungry during the drive home. I had gotten a little box of cake bites to have with lunch. So I ate two of those on the drive.
When I got back here I was excited to see someone putting out free stuff at their garage. I got a brass bowl and she gave me a huge bag of yarn and crochet hooks. Amazing. She was very nice.
I got inside and made fake chicken and a salad for lunch. I decorated a metal cup I got with stickers. I hung out in the studio for a bit but then I just felt. Cold and tired.
I changed into my sweatsuit again. And would move from bedroom to living room and back. Watching videos and resting. I felt super winded. And I really just wanted James to come home.
The would come home a little late though. They went for a little extra bike ride. But they would come back at 5 and give me hugs before they headed out again.
They got gas and went to their parents house to drop something off. And then got us burger king for dinner. We are together on the couch and talked about new years and plans and just enjoyed being together.
And now I am just super tired. James just finished rerecording a few lines for their podcast and Sweetp is being so cute acting like Velcro. And I am ready to sleep.
I love you all. Goodnight

OHIO
2024 August 4 (Sun) – We drove to Toledo today.  First stop was at the Glass City Metropark.  What an interesting park!  They have cabanas that you can rent to have an event.  Someone was having a birthday party in one.  Next to the cabanas was a roller skating rink that can be frozen in the winter for ice skating.  There was a play area with unusual playthings and a climbing wall.  All this sits on the Maumee River with a great view of the city of Toledo across the water.
At noon, we went to the National Museum of the Great Lakes.  First, was a tour of the James M. Schoonmaker, the largest freighter on the Great Lakes at its time.  It was very interesting.  There were utilitarian rooms for the crew, then there were cruise line quality rooms for guests and the pilot (they don’t call him a captain).  Next to it was a tug boat that was also open to exploration.  We climbed aboard and explored the boat.  Tugs don’t have near the number of  spaces that a freighter does.
Next was a stop at the Old Bag of Nails Pub.  We thought it was an Irish pub but turned out to be a seafood pace.  Paul had a burger and I had fish and chips.  I really wanted shepherd’s pie.  It was a little disappointing.  The fries were terrible.
We drove through Toledo on the way back to the campground.  There were many stores and buildings closed up.  But there were also new stops and buildings with lots of murals around town.  I don’t know if the city is returning to its glory days or if it is on the way out.
2024 August 3 (Sat) – We woke to see airmen running on the track.  They must have been conducting PT tests.  Each person wore a numbered vest and ran around at least 3 or 4 times.  If I remember right, the PT test included a 2-mile run.
We packed up and left at 10:30 a.m.  There were rumblings in the distance and we did get some sprinkles, but no heavy rain.  The drive was uneventful.  We stopped at a rest stop on the interstate.  Ohio has campsites at their rest stops.  We noticed them the last time we drove through Ohio in 2022.  Wish all the other states would do the same.  It is a convenient for a one-night stop on a long drive.
Arrived at Camp Perry National Guard post in Vienna at 1:30 p.m.  When we went to check in, the clerk made us wait until 2 p.m. (that happened last time we were here, too).  So inflexible.  At 2 p.m. on the dot, she called the people waiting up to the counter.  We were third in line.  They even made a couple who only wanted to buy a tee-shirt wait.
This is a very nice campground.  The sites are long but a little narrow.  We have FHU with a bathhouse.  The place is neat and well kempt; grass is cut and trees are trimmed. They are about 3/4 full.  Price is a little high for a military campground - $92.22 for 2 nights.
There are national shooting matches on.  They started on July 4 and go to the middle of August.  We talked with a man who was also waiting to check in who comes here every year.  He said they have more than 15,000 people shoot.  They come at different times, depending on what weapon they use.  There’s pistols, air rifles, shot guns, different types of rifles, then the military hardware.
Once set up, we drove into town for dinner at the Jolly Roger’s Seafood Restaurant.  We were early – 4:30 p.m. – so we didn’t think it would be very busy.  Boy, were we wrong!  The line was out the door.  You waited on a long line for 30 minutes.  When you got to the window, you placed your order, were given a number, then tried to find a seat in the very crowded restaurant and someone brought your meal to your table.  The menu had Lake Erie perch and walleye (the finest in Ohio) and we each ordered a meal.  The perch was better – light and mild.  The walleye was meatier and more chewy.  Both were good.
After dinner, we drove the coastal road back to the campground.  Lake Erie is so big.  Looks like an ocean.  I think it is an inland ocean.  There were many gulls, just like on Long Island.  Folks were swimming in the water and boats were motoring and sailing along.
2024 August 2 (Fri) – We drove to Niles to tour the birthplace of President William McKinley.  There was also a McKinley Historical Museum.  He was #7 of 9 children.  The house (which was a replica since the original burned down) was tiny and it was hard to imagine a family of 11 living there.  It only had 3 bedrooms, a small kitchen and dining room, a family parlor and a formal parlor.  The museum was very informative.  It was massive with huge columns reminiscent of Greek architecture.  It was built by a childhood friend of McKinley’s.  I never knew much about this president.  It seemed like he was someone who served during a time when there was nothing going on and he just faded into history.  Boy, was I wrong!  He won reelection and was six months into his second term when he was assassinated.  He did from infection, not the gut shot.  During his term, he initiated tariffs of 100% because he was pro-American business.  His life story was not spectacular.  He didn’t live any way in which you could have predicted he would grow up to be a president.
After the museum and home, we went to lunch at the Stone Yard Grill & Bar.  The place was small but very attractive.  I had an almond crusted white fish, which I didn’t care for.  Paul had a Cuban sandwich, which he seemed to relish.  We stopped at Meijer for groceries on the way home.  What a place!  WalMart on steroids.
When we got back to the base, we drove around to check things out.  I spotted an Express Shop and we stopped to see about getting some liquor.  They did not have what we wanted so Paul got a bottle of wine.
2024 August 1 (Thu) – We packed up and left Bellefonte, PA, at 11 AM.  The weather was clear and uneventful, arriving at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station FamCamp in Vienna.  We were last here in 2022.  It is a very nice campground – FHU, clean and quiet, and just $15 a night.  Can’t beat it.

December 9th - December 17th 2023
Ok a long multi-day post. Let's see how much I remember. What are you gonna do I was on vacation and traveling.
December 9th:
I found out in the morning that our reef tour was canceled. When we went to the counter the lady said that a cyclone off the coast was causing unsafe conditions. Oh well. We booked another tour that wasn't too far out. It was a tour to Green Island. It wasn't too bad. We got to see the reefs and I saw a sea turtle. Freaking large animals. I ran into some people I met at the conference the week before.
Tumblr media
We came back in the afternoon. I went for a run. We got dinner at a pizza place. We then had a drink at a roof top bar. It was great.
Tumblr media
December 10th:
We woke up early to catch a flight to Brisbane to head to Gold Coast. We had to take a train from the airport to Gold Coast. It was a 3 hour long ride. Got cheap dinner nearby the hotel and decided to enjoy our hotel room. It had a view of the ocean.
December 11th:
We decided to walk around and explore the southern part of Gold Coast. We stopped by a breakfast place and got some late breakfast. After we walked through a tropical forest park. It was cool seeing some of the wildlife.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then after we decided to checkout a place where wild koalas were living. We got to see couple wild koalas and checked out a wildlife sanctuary.
Tumblr media
After we grabbed a beer by the beach and headed back to figure out for dinner. We decided to get pho. At the end of the day we clocked in 35,000 steps.
December 12th:
Woke up and got breakfast a nearby cafe. We then decided to checkout this place where they had wild kangaroos running around. It was an hour bus ride. But we got to see some wild kangaroos.
Tumblr media
It was pretty cool. I mean growing up in North America you only saw them in zoos, but to see it in the wild was neat. After we checked out the north part of Gold Coast and got a snack. We came back to the hotel and rested up for dinner. We got burgers and then after we stopped by a bar and got a drink.
December 13th:
Had to wake up and leave early to catch the train to catch the plane. It was mostly travel day. We landed back in Sydney and checked out Centennial Park. It was like their Central Park. For dinner we went to Lord Dudley's Hotel. We came back early and watched some Peaky Blinders.
December 14th:
It was going to be a hot day so planned on spending most of the day indoors. I booked a Sydney Opera House tour. It was cool seeing the inside of the Opera house. I've always seen the outside in pictures but never got to seeing it up close and inside. After the tour I figured we should watch a concert so I bought tickets to a Christmas concert for Friday.
Tumblr media
After we got lunch and we headed to the museum of contemporary art. We spent a couple hours there. Then we headed back to our hotel to wait out the heat. After when it cooled down just a bit, we then headed to Bondi Beach. We walked around and just enjoyed the scenery.
Tumblr media
We came back and had a snack and some drinks at the hotel. We then walked over to Harry's Cafe De Wheels. Apparently it's a famous Australian fast food joint. It was ok. They had meat pies or whatever. We came back after and watched some more peaky blinders.
December 15th:
Last Day in Sydney so we decided to checkout their zoo. It wasn't a big zoo so we saw everything in 4 hours. Great views of the city.
Tumblr media
After we came back and got some snacks at a mall food court. It wasn't too bad. We came back to our hotel and got ready for dinner. For dinner I made a reservation at Chiswick Woollhara. It was a place that Anthony Bourdain visited before. it was a nice restaurant.
Then after we headed to the Sydney Opera House for the concert. It was a fun concert and the choir and the orchestra was great. I am glad that we got to see a concert there.
Tumblr media
We headed back to the hotel and started to pack.
December 16th:
Woke up and headed to the airport. It was a travel day. Landed back in SFO around 7AM. Caught my flight back to SD and came in around 10AM. After I unpacked my stuff and rested up. The wife landed around 1 PM and I picked her up and then we picked up our dog. After we lounged around and we went to a holiday party that one of the wife's friend was hosting. Came home and watched more Peaky Blinders.
December 17th:
Woke up around the usual time. Went to church. Had lunch and met someone who was a potential to sit our dog. He wasn't a good match. In the afternoon we walked the dog and lounged around the house. Made some Aperol spritz and probably have a late dinner and watch some Peaky Blinders. Good vacation. now back to reality.

The open setting on the golf course is impressive. Unbeatable value in Wailea!”Vincent F., September 2022 “Great location! Awesome happy hour and Brodie is the best!!! Mahalo! See you all soon”Jayden G., March 2022 “This has been our favorite place on Maui thus far – the ambience, the service, the food, all excellent. We absolutely loved the open concept restaurant with beautiful views of the sunset and golf course. They also had a great, basic menu with options to appease all sort of food preferences. We started with the garlic Parmesan fries which were honestly better than expected with crispy, thick cut fries, and got a variety of pizzas. The Hawaiian Honey pizza was so good with fresh, perfectly seasoned pineapple and Maui onion. Someone else in our party also got the Tree Hugger Bowl and said it was super tasty and just what she was looking for. Of course we ended the meal with the giant Holy Manoli… a cast iron skillet baked cookie with ice cream and hot fudge. No complaints there, except maybe over eating (a self-inflicted problem). We loved this place, and would definitely recommend. Beautiful area with a casual but not hole-in-the-wall place.”Sarah Q., March 2022 “We went to Manoli’s twice during our stay because it was so good! The marinara sauce is absolutely delicious and the pizza was so crispy! The portions are very large and it’s open air dining. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner!”BreeAnne M., March 2022 “This was our favorite place to visit so far in Maui for food! Our server, Joshua, went above & beyond. He was an overall amazing server and when he found out we were visiting, he took the time to write a few neat places to check out which was super thoughtful! The food was great, we got pizza. Prices were great too! We would highly recommend to anyone! Thank you Joshua!”Hannah S., February 2022 “Unfortunately the pizza was so good I didn’t save room for that amazing looking cookie and ice cream.”Josh H., February 2022 “Love going to Manoli’s! The restaurant is awesome and the food and drinks are great. Their gluten free pizza crust is not only the best I’ve had on the island, but it’s one of the best I’ve ever had. Dinner date nights with Scarecrow.
(Warning: terrible grammar ahead :o)
Year One:
He doesn't make it obvious but there are enough hints to tell that he is nervous. His mind constantly tells him something is off, though it's just his lack of experience in this situation. In other words, while he is silent from outside, inside he can't help but make a storm in a glass of water for the whole time but that's all because it's his first time doing this. The night is quick and straight to the point: enter, eat, leave. If you wish for a second time he will feel less nervous and more comfortable in the restaurant in the next chance, occasionally breaking the silence between you two, warming up things with his thoughts and attempts to joke. His small smile when accompanying you outside is precious.
BTAS:
The man thinks he is going to marry or something. It was a simple dinner with his s/o in this local restaurant but there he is at his sharpest when looking glamorous and elegant in his best suit. He is so euphoric about everything that a few tiny accidents may happen without him even noticing like his chin got something or there's a small stain in his suit now. The night goes smoothly for you two, but he will be glad for you not paying attention to how shaky his hands are and how hot the weather feels for him. You don't tell him he is red as a tomato though.
Corpsecrow:
Probably the most calm and confident of them all. As simple as he makes his intentions seem, you don't know how but he managed to get a luxury treatment for the night and soon enough the pair of you are now on the special guests floor. Although your table was somehow separated (his own orders for privacy) the staff of waiters made sure to deliver an excellent treatment followed by excellent meals. It almost feels like too much, but he reassures you it's nothing and he just wants the best for you two. He is a gentleman with you and surprisingly has a neat etiquette, still the biggest surprise was seeing his skullish mask opening its jaw to allow him to eat.
Salecrow:
He doesn't have a problem with a dinner date, he has a problem with the restaurant part. It's simply not his taste. For the said night, he offers you to follow him to his hideout only for you to discover that he had prepared everything already and was the one who cooked dinner. It's pretty comfortable for both of you and not as pressuring as having to deal with a possible problem of going out in public with him. He is proud to show you his hidden cooking skills and more proud to see you admiring his dedication for tonight. He gets extra flirtatious and will often tease you with suggestive eye contact and feet tapping beneath the table.
Masters of Fear:
Oh boy… he is already a mess one week before the date. He constantly keeps in touch with you with his suggestions: "Do you like fancy restaurants? Perhaps a less modern one? Would you mind just eating a burger?"
Turns out in the night he is found in front of your home stumbling in his own words about not finding a good place. You two settle in making the dinner yourselves instead and it ends up being way more enjoyable than if you two went out, plus it becomes an excuse for him to stay the whole night with you.
Lego Scarecrow:
Tumblr media
There are numerous menus beneath him so his height can make it to the table. Although improvisations were made, that doesn't drive him away and he is still confident (and hella cute) through the whole date. He orders food just for you because… he can't eat a whole plate full of a meal like that. After the fancy meeting, he orders pizza for you but is the first one to take a bite and devour a whole piece all by himself. How can it fit him? We don't know.

Mikasa was standing behind you, face expressionless as she lifted her hand in a simple wave. Nervous, you gave her a slow nod, waiting for her to say or do something. Her eyes shifted over to the plate you were holding and she opened her mouth.
“I hear the black bean burgers are delicious tonight. Walk with me to get one?”
Her voice was quiet and gentle, catching you off guard. You gave another slow nod, trailing behind her silently as she led you towards the burgers in the back. When you arrived, she gestured for you to hand her the plate, and you did so quickly.
“I heard you haven’t spoken to Eren.”
You froze. She grabbed a patty with tongs, placing it on your plate before sliding down towards the buns.
“Don’t worry, he doesn’t know I’m speaking with you. I’m doing this on my own accord.”
Mikasa handed you your plate back, giving you a small smile. You hated to admit it, but she was awfully pretty, so pretty you found yourself studying her face. She cocked her head to the side, waiting for you to speak.
“O-oh, sure, that’s fine,” you stuttered out.
She glanced past you towards the tables where Marco was presumably sitting. You shuffled nervously, waiting for her to speak again.
“I don’t want to keep you from Marco. I’m here to apologize to you.”
You nearly dropped the plate in your hands. What?!
“I don’t have the time to explain everything, but just know that I really am sorry.”
“Mikasa,” you began, but she held up a hand to cut you off.
“After dinner, stop by my dorm?”
She quickly told you what hall she was in before saying bye and walking off. Blinking, you shook your head and tried to resume putting your black bean burger together.
***
Marco had insisted on walking you to your dorm but you told him you were meeting a friend. You walked over to Mikasa’s dorm, making your way anxiously up the stairs and down the hallway towards her door. Sucking in a deep breath, you raised your hand and rapped on the door three times.
She opened the door, greeting you with a small smile and stepping aside for you to enter. You were surprised to see she was in a studio, as it was hard to get single units in any of the dorms. The studio was neat, with a black candle lit on the coffee table, giving off a mix of vanilla and sandalwood. She led you towards the couch, telling you to get comfortable as she slipped into the kitchen to grab you a drink. You glanced nervously around again before slowly sinking into the couch, wringing your hands as she returned with a cup of water.
“Thanks for stopping by. I know it’s late, so I won’t keep you.”
“It’s no problem,” you assured her, taking a sip of the water.
“Eren’s really torn up because you haven’t talked to him,” she began.
You gave a slow nod, waiting for her to continue.
“I want to set the record straight with you. I don’t want you to get into a relationship with Eren and feel like he’s keeping secrets from you.”
You took another sip of water, hoping it would ease the nervousness rising in your throat.
“Eren and I are step-siblings. His Dad married my Mom. We’ve been living together since right before we started middle school.”
So far, her story aligned with what Hitch had told you. She gauged your reaction before continuing on.
“I had always had a crush on him since we were kids, and suddenly being in the same space as him all the time was . . . confusing. I figured I would just try to get to know him better and just go from there.”
You gave a slow nod.
“I’m sure you heard about Mina . . . that was a turning point for the both of us.”
Mikasa went on then, explaining how Eren was conflicted between wanting to pursue a romantic relationship and a physical one with her. The two had fallen into it because it was simply convenient for the two and nothing more - although Mikasa admitted she had feelings for Eren, but she had pushed them aside long ago.
“I knew nothing would come of it, so I learned to push my feelings aside.”
She finished by stating that she had always been overprotective over him, and that she was learning to respect their boundaries.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have intruded the other day, and I should have come clean with you from the beginning. Address the past, you know?”
You nodded, lowering your gaze to glance at your lap.
“Can we start fresh?”
You lifted your eyes to find her staring at you, eyes wide.
“Of course.”
You opened your arms and Mikasa pulled you into a tight hug, squeezing you affectionately before pulling back.
“Hey, you’re taking Professor Shadis’ class, right?”
The two of you spent the next few hours getting to know each other, chatting about your classes and comparing your experiences with different professors. You found out the two of you were watching the same shows on Netflix and were also huge fans of a local indie band.
It was nearing midnight when you told Mikasa you needed to get going. She walked you to the door, pulling you into a hug before hesitating for a moment.
“Go talk to Eren. He’s been heartbroken over you.”
You blinked up at her. She gave you a nod of reassurance before opening the door.
“Go. Text me when you get home, please.”
You practically sprinted across campus, passing various lecture halls and the student center before reaching the apartments on the outskirts. Skidding to a stop, you knocked frantically on the door and bent over, trying to catch your breath. The door creaked open and you prayed that it wasn’t Armin so you wouldn’t have to explain what was happening. The sound of your name being breathed softly had you jerking your head up to see Eren standing there, eyes wide.
“What are you doing here? It’s so late don’t you have class -”
You cut him off by throwing yourself at him, tilting your head up to kiss him. He was stunned for a second before you felt him relax underneath you, his hands coming up to wrap around you and crushing you against him. When you pulled back he pressed his forehead against yours, sucking in a breath before he spoke.
“I missed you. I thought I lost you.”
“I talked to Mikasa. She told me everything. She’s also kind of my new best friend.”
Eren pulled back to look at you, surprised.
“Eren, let’s start over. I want to be with you. I’m sorry for what happened. Can you forgive me?”
“Are you kidding me? Of course.”
He suddenly swept you up, carrying you bridal style as he shut the door with his hip.
“Let me show you how much I missed you.”

1.
It was the first semester of your Senior year. The first month of school had flown by, and the Fall dance was just a few weeks away. Your small group of girlfriends was anxiously awaiting for their crushes to ask them.
You weren’t particularly concerned with this. The dance fell on the one Saturday of the month where you had to accompany your mother to some stupid Tupperware party. It was the newest trend in American dining, and your mother needed you as her plus one. It wouldn’t hurt to miss one dance… right?
Your best friends Winter and Zoe were excited, but they were devastated you couldn’t come. You always went with them as a trio.
“Are you sure you couldn’t cancel?” Winter asked while you washed your hands in the bathroom sink. The school day was over, and you planned on accompanying her to the diner for greasy food and to catch up on homework.
“I already promised her weeks ago,” you said, drying your hands. “There’s still prom?”
Winter nodded in understanding, and you both knew it was the end of that discussion. Zoe came out of the stall, her face flushed and hair tied back. She looked clammy.
“You alright in there?” Winter asked her as Zoe took a disposable cup and drank some water.
“Kyle asked me to the dance!” Zoe replied breathlessly. You and Winter both congratulated her, and Winter asked why she looked so sick.
“I just got overwhelmed, you know? He came up and asked me right as I put my books away. I didn’t think he was going too, he never brought it up before-.”
You followed them out as Zoe recanted the story of how Kyle asked her. The halls were mostly cleared now as kids scrambled to leave as soon as possible.
“You’re riding with us, right?” Zoe then asked you, raising a neat eyebrow at you.
“Yes, Dandy probably left already.”
The girls both smirked to themselves, but you ignored it. You were used to it by now.
The thing was, Dandy Mott was the best looking guy in school, in your opinion. You had never attended a public school in your life, but you knew those boys could never compare. Dandy was from the wealthiest family in your private district, and with his looks, girls were all over him.
However, he was quite the character.
Dandy didn’t necessarily associate with a particular group of kids. He was reticent and didn’t bother with any clubs, but he was quite attuned to the drama program. He was also known for his temper if things didn’t go his way, but age matured him, mostly. You were one of the few people who he actually gave a damn about in life. You attributed that to knowing him before school. Your grandfather was a business partner with the Mott family, where your family name found their wealth, and how you two were friends.
You weren’t bothered by the unwanted attention you got from girls attempting to weasel their way into your circle for the chance to talk to Dandy. Most of them gave up quickly, and that was that. Plus, you had Winter and Zoe as your protectors. They weren’t afraid to kick a bitch in the vagina if they overstepped the clear boundaries you had set for yourself. Dandy trusted you, and you weren’t about to fuck that up.
Plus, his mother, Gloria, was continually trying to set him up with girls in other parts of town.
You climbed into Zoe’s new car, buckling your seatbelt and glancing across the almost deserted parking lot. You spotted him instantly, sitting in his car and staring right back. You slowly raised your hand, giving him a wave. Dandy slowly reciprocated the action, and you swore you saw him smile.
You spent the evening with the girls, eating dinner and trying to explain the symbolism in the required reading in English. The football team had finished their practice and were crowding what few booths and tables were left. You tried to block out their raucous laughter, loudly asking Zoe to read your theory to see if it were plausible.
Winter had noticed the Quarterback, Jason, occasionally staring at you as he chewed his burger. Your back was to him, so you had no idea. She didn’t say anything, instead watching him from the corner of her eye, figuring he wouldn’t approach your table.
“I just think it only makes sense to me,” you told Zoe, scratching your head. “I can’t concentrate with the boys screaming for no reason.”
“I think it makes perfect sense. You did misspell authority, though…”
You laughed to yourself, glancing around the diner as Zoe fixed your spelling. You were so distracted, you misspelled simple words.
“We should get ready and go, it’s getting stuffy in here…” Winter commented, closing her English book.
“Just a moment!” Zoe said excitedly, scribbling down in her own notebook now.
You had started gathering your things when both Zoe and Madison looked behind you, looking a mix of concern and amusement. You glanced behind you to see Jason Dean, smiling down at you. His dark hair covered his eyes, and he pushed it back.
You had no idea what to say. The last conversation you had with Jason was probably in fifth grade when he commented that women were weak while helping you carry boxes of school supplies, and you accidentally dropped a massive box of markers on his foot. He cried for an hour.
“y/n,” he addressed you. You glanced at your friends who were eagerly watching you with their faces hidden behind their textbooks. Winter’s was upside down.
“Hi, Jason,” you responded, hearing the confusion in your voice. You listened to his friends giggling behind you, and you wondered if this was a joke.
“I haven’t seen you in a minute,” he said cheekily, and you nodded. “You look good.”
You quickly looked him up and down. Jason was muscular but not bulky, and he was definitely a whole foot taller than you. He grew into his facial features, and he was a handsome guy. You assumed he was just talking to you on a dare, so you finished putting your things in your bag. Zoe and Winter didn’t budge, still pretending to read their books.
Jason realized you were dumbfounded at his statement. He quickly backtracked, “I just wanted to say hi. I’ll see you around.”
You bid him farewell, turning to your friends who were having a hard time concealing their laughter. You heard Jason’s best friend, Matthew, call him an idiot and what sounded like a smack on the back.
“y/n, you have a boyfriend?” Zoe asked, smirking at you.
You glared, standing up as they shouldered their bags and grabbed their books. “You know perfectly well I don’t speak to him.”
“I bet he wants to ask you to the dance.” Winter grinned at Zoe, who nodded in agreement as you stepped into the cold autumn air.
“I’m not going either way.” you mumbled, and the girls dropped it until the next morning.
2.
You didn’t think it was that big of a deal that the Quarterback tried to talk to you at the diner a few nights before. All the students who were present spread gossip like wildfire. You ignored it. You knew they were just children speculating what it could mean when it probably meant nothing.
Zoe and Winter never brought it up again, and you were relieved that your friends didn’t dwell on it for too long. You loved that about them.
It was after lunchtime when you sat in your History course, going over the notes for the test. You heard Jason and a few of his friends pile in, laughing and making comments under their breath. They took their designated seats in the back, and you felt eyes on the back of your head.
A group of popular girls across the room started to giggle, and you glanced up to see Dandy walk in, his nose up and sauntering to the seat directly behind you. You wondered why he didn’t acknowledge you, but you didn’t dwell on it long. Dandy was often absent from any social interaction.
Your teacher began the class the moment the bell rang. She decided to go over the notes an extra day and postponed the test. You were mildly disappointed but knew the material well, so you decided to doodle in your journal. One of the girls in the front occasionally popped her gum.
Ms. Strode was talking about World War II when you felt something hit your elbow. You glanced over and saw a balled-up piece of paper. You glanced around to see most people were either frantically jotting down notes or not paying any attention. You picked it up, assuming it just needed to be passed ahead.
However, you read your name in neat cursive and opened it under the table.
Would you go to the dance with me? - Jason
You read the short invitation a good ten or so times before you could comprehend what he was asking. While the teacher wasn’t looking, you peeked over your shoulder to see him staring at you. His buddies were hiding their own smiles, but you didn’t see any malice behind it. Was he serious?
Of course, you’d have to decline. You already have an engagement. You promised your mother. You already declined the evening with your two best friends.
You didn’t send a note back, knowing it would be too distracting trying to pass it. Dandy would never try to give a stupid message.
However, Dandy had been paying attention and had managed to read the note over your shoulder when you laid it on your pencil case. He became green with envy, closing the book he hadn’t been paying attention too in the first place.
You hardly spoke a word to him this year. He wondered why that was. Dandy was very particular who he said too, and gave any sliver of his precious time. You were a comfort to him and probably didn’t realize that. Dandy knew he couldn’t seem desperate for your affection, or at the very least, your attention. He had hoped you’d be waiting for him in his car after school like the previous years before. Did he do something to upset you? Were you too good for him?
Dandy spent the rest of the class staring at the back of your head. He knew that wasn’t the case. Perhaps it was his behavior that steered you away. Of course, he liked being friends with you, but maybe it wasn’t enough. He was a loner who enjoyed his alone time. Dandy heard what people said about him. The general consensus was that he was doing everything right.
When the class was dismissed, he hung back, watching as you quickly gathered your things and paced out the door.
“Tough blow, man!” he heard Matthew say.
“She’ll come around.” Jason replied, his tone snarky. Dandy watched as they walked out of the room, his brows furrowing as he debated on taking the high road and asking you to the stupid dance himself. He wouldn’t go willingly. His mother, Gloria, needed him to be involved as much as possible. To keep up appearances, of course. Not for Dandy’s own goodwill.
Dandy trailed out of the class, seeing you across the hall at your locker. Winter was beside you, somehow talking and applying lipstick at the same time. He stood off to the side, not minding all the bodies bumping into him and temporarily panicking that he’d yell at them.
This is it, Dandy thought. It’s a war, whether Jason Dean knew that or not.
3.
Jason approached you the following day and asked if you’d mind talking to him at lunch. You hesitantly agreed, catching Zoe’s eye as she hugged Kyle before going into her class. She smiled at you, and you gave her a hesitant one in return.
He definitely matured through the years. Jason was interested in you, and you felt comfortable talking to him through the entire lunch period, even catching yourself laughing at his sense of humor. Dandy played with the apple in his hands, glaring daggers at the back of Jason’s messy head. Winter noticed from her spot at your usual table and nudged Zoe, gesturing for her to look.
“He looks pissed.” Zoe giggled, and Winter nodded in agreement.
“I think Mott is going to kill him!” Winter said, stabbing at her steamed broccoli.
“Shouldn’t we let y/n know?” Zoe asked.
“I think she’s about to figure it out.” Winter said as Dandy stood up, heading directly to the table where you were sitting with Jason. Zoe and Winter fell into a hush, shoving food into their mouth and intently watching what was about to unfold.
Jason saw him approaching first and paused, sizing the other guy up and down. Jason was bigger than Dandy in height and muscle tone from being an athlete, but Dandy wasn’t lanky either. You turned around, shocked to find Dandy staring down at you.
“y/n,” Dandy nodded at you, ignoring Jason.
“Dandy, hi!” you said, genuinely happy to see him. “How are you?”
“I’m decent.” he said, smiling a little. “Could I have a word?”
You glanced at Jason, who seemed timid, but he nodded. You stood up, promising Jason you’d be back as you followed Dandy out to the hallway. Multiple eyes followed you, and you heard the whispers starting as the door swung shut.
“How are you?” Dandy asked now, looking down at you. His dark hair was neatly gelled and had a slight curl.
“I’ve been good. I haven’t heard from you in a while…” you said.
Dandy nodded, “I could say the same. I assumed you’d come back around soon enough.”
You felt he was hurt by your absence. Dandy looked bothered, and you felt terrible. However, he was capable of approaching you as well. Which is what he thought he had to do.
“Is everything okay?” you questioned, hoping his mother was doing well. You hadn’t seen her all Summer.
“y/n, you know you’re one of the only people I care about in this stupid town,” Dandy said, glancing towards a teacher walking to the lounge. He gave you guys a questioning look but didn’t comment, disappearing into the next room.
You weren’t sure how to respond to that, so Dandy continued, “Which is why I think you shouldn’t go to the formal with Jason.”
You frowned, “How do you know he asked me?”
“The whole school knows!” Dandy retorted, and you remembered. “I think it’s a bad idea.”
“It doesn’t matter, I’m not going either way.”
Dandy looked surprised, and you saw the relief in his eyes. He laughed a little, his fingers drumming against his leg. “Oh.”
“What, are you jealous?” you asked, laughing at him. Dandy tried to hide his laughter, but it didn’t work. The quiet hallway was filled with your giggles.
“That’s for me to know and for you to find out.” Dandy said, and you were saddened to hear the bell ring. Dandy straightened up, the smile leaving his face as kids filed out of the cafeteria and the surrounding classrooms. Kids stared at you and whispered, many laughing and wondering if you were now a couple.
Jason slowly walked in your direction, but you didn’t want to say goodbye to Dandy. You were ashamed that you had avoided him for so long. You missed him. Dandy glanced behind you, his eyes sharpening as your new suitor waited patiently, his hands in his beige jacket.
“Be careful around him.” Dandy whispered to you before he disappeared down the hall.
You approached Jason, who gave you a soft smile, “Am I missing something? Are you two together?”
You shook your head, a light smile on your lips, “No. We’re just friends.”
“Oh…” Jason nodded, “Look, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry if I freaked you out the other day. We don’t have to go to the dance together, but-.”
“Oh!” you gasped. Jason frowned, giving you a quizzical look. “The dance… I forgot,” you lied. “Uhm, I’m actually not going. I have other plans…” you said.
Jason looked defeated but took the rejection gracefully. You promised you’d sit with him again tomorrow, and he visibly cheered up at that. You ended up having to sprint to your locker for your books after saying goodbye, but you couldn’t stop thinking about Dandy’s warning.
“Be careful around him.”
The Friday before the dance went to complete shit.
That morning you ate your breakfast slowly, listening to your parents argue in the kitchen over a business deal your mother thought was a bad idea. Your father was greedy and looked towards the top dollar than what was best for the business and the family.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Winter fell sick and couldn’t go to school. You had to wait for your father to finish getting ready before he could drive you. You were ten minutes late and got a verbal warning; you never got in trouble at school. You had three tests in a row, and by lunch, you were about to rip your hair out.
Jason was nowhere to be found, so you sat with Zoe. She was worried that Winter would miss the dance but was happy that she’d at least have Kyle if Winter canceled. Kyle came and sat with you guys, his shaggy blond hair wet from the downpour outside.
You were anxiously looking around the cafeteria for any sign of Dandy. He had missed a few days of school, citing a fever when you called his house and spoke to his maid, Dora. You wished him well and knew he’d pull through fast. Plus, you saw his car this morning when you got dropped off.
“They’re going to cancel the dance if more kids fall ill,” Kyle said as he ate a burger. Zoe glared at him, telling him to look on the bright side of things.
“What? I am!” Kyle replied, smirking at his new girlfriend.
“I’m sure they won’t cancel.” you placated Zoe, who beamed at you. “All the parents who gave money will be pissed.”
You ate most of your lunch when the principal walked in. The room immediately quieted as he observed the tables before landing on you. He walked to you briskly, and you felt your heart racing as he approached.
Am I getting detention? I’ve only been late once!
“Ms. y/l/n, could you come with me?” he asked politely, smiling at you, Zoe, and Kyle.
You nodded slowly, bunching up your trash and placing it on the tray. Zoe told you to leave it, and they’d take care of it. You quietly thanked her and followed Principal Harmon out, struggling to keep pace with his long, thin legs.
“Is everything alright, sir?” you asked. Now wondering if your parents died in some fiery crash or if you failed a class.
“There’s been a disturbance outside this afternoon,” Harmon replied, his voice grim. “With Mr. Mott and Mr. Dean.”
You were shocked to hear this. You were silent during the rest of the trek to his office. When he opened the door, you saw both boys sitting in chairs. They both had packs of ice on their faces and sheepish expressions.
“What were you thinking?” you hissed to them as Mr. Harmon gestured for you to take the empty seat next to Dandy.
“Well, now that y/n is here, I think you both owe her an explanation and an apology.”
Jason and Dandy shared a look. Dandy now looked pissed, and you could only imagine what lead to this.
Oh, I have a pretty good fucking idea.

Words: 4,705 Dean x Reader Summary: Bobby hatches a plan to try to get you and Dean to reconcile after months apart. Warnings: None! A/N: Angsssst and then a happy ending. What more could one ask for?
Your name: submit What is this?
Dean turned when he heard a car door slamming across the yard and he immediately recognized the vehicle. He rubbed a hand over his mouth and chin and glared at Bobby, who was clearly pretending he hadn’t noticed your arrival and was making himself busy flipping the burgers on the grill.
“Bobby? Are you kidding me?”
Bobby glanced over at Dean carelessly. “What?”
“You called her? Really?” You were making your way up to the house and Dean thought your posture looked stiff.
“Oh, calm down, son. Not everything revolves around you. I lent her some gear and she’s just bringing it back.”
Dean chewed his bottom lip and glared at the back of Bobby’s head. “Uh huh. Uh huh, she just happens to be bringing it back the day I show up here with Sam.”
Bobby smirked to himself. “I don’t know what’s got your panties in a twist but it seems like maybe you have some unresolved issues to deal with…”
“Bobby,” Dean growled.
He finally turned and vehemently pointed at Dean with the spatula. “No. Now you listen to me. You two idjits belong together and everyone knows it. Figure it out!” he spat, before casually turning back around to the grill.
Your boot scuffing on the gravel finally forced him and Bobby to turn. You had a duffel bag slung over one shoulder.
“I didn’t mean to crash the barbeque. You didn’t tell me you had company,” you said pointedly to Bobby. Dean thought he saw you swallow hard and you looked about as uncomfortable as he felt.
“Must have slipped my mind,” Bobby said, giving you a tight smile.
“Mhmm… I’m sure,” you said. You dropped the duffel bag with a heavy thud onto the porch and couldn’t keep your eyes from landing on him any longer—Dean was standing there with his hands shoved into his jacket pockets and although it had been quite a long time since you had seen him, the expression on his face was one you still could readily decode. He was supremely uncomfortable. Bobby was looking back and forth between the two of you but finally turned back to the grill. You were about to open your mouth to say something when the front door swung open and Sam wandered out. He had a novel in one hand and an apple in the other and the slam of the screen door matched perfectly with the struck expression of surprise on his face to see you standing there so unexpectedly. The next moment he was grinning at you and before you could say anything he had you wrapped in a big bear hug, squeezing you tight enough that a little exhaled “Oof!” escaped your lips.
“Y/N! I didn’t—Bobby didn’t tell us—it’s so great to see you!” he said drawing back and taking you in, looking you over. His expression was so open and earnest and warm, just as you remembered, that you couldn’t help smiling back at him despite your annoyance at Bobby’s obvious scheming and the residual anger you felt toward Dean, with a heaping side of discomfort.
“Yeah, well Bobby forgot to mention you’d be here, too,” you said. Sam could hear the edge of tension in your voice and the swell of happiness he had on seeing you began to sink as he glanced over at Dean, trying to read his older brother’s mood. Dean was avoiding looking at you, mainly staring down at his boots.
An uncomfortable silence settled until you cleared your throat awkwardly and picked up the duffel bag again. “Well, I guess I’ll just go dump your gear in the house, Bobby, and then I’ll be on my way.”
“What? No! Y/N, you can’t leave. We haven’t seen you in forever,” Sam pleaded.
Bobby was pulling the last burger off the grill and he looked over at you with an obnoxious little uptick at one corner of his mouth. “I already counted you in for dinner so you have to stay or it’ll go to waste.”
You gave him a knowing look. “Go to waste? You’ve got a fridge. And two giant men visiting. It’ll get eaten or keep just fine…”
“Y/N, you can’t leave,” Sam said again. You made the mistake of meeting his eyes and goddammit, you didn’t know if he was doing it on purpose but those fucking puppy eyes. You couldn’t say no to that expression.
You sighed heavily and passed a hand over your brow, shaking your head a little at yourself for what you were about to agree to. “Alright… I’ll stay for dinner, but that’s it!” you said, vehemently pointing at Sam, who grinned triumphantly.
“Good. Now get on in the house. Sam’s already got the table ready, so we’ll just set an extra place. Dean—” Bobby held the laden burger plate out to him. “Take this in. I’ll be there in a minute. I’m just gonna clean off the grill.”
“Uhh… alright,” Dean said begrudgingly. He followed you and Sam into the house, his apprehension growing. He wanted more than anything to let his eyes wander over you there in front of him, in the flesh, not just some image conjured in his mind late at night when he couldn’t quite drown out his regrets with whiskey or blaring rock music.
“Beer?” Sam asked, opening the fridge.
You heard footsteps behind you and turned, meeting Dean’s striking green eyes for the first time and awkwardly sidestepping out of his way so he could get to the table. He tore his eyes from yours quickly and you felt that familiar twist in your stomach. “Umm, got anything stronger?” you asked, with a wry laugh.
“Stronger?” Sam repeated. “This is Bobby’s house,” he said, walking across the kitchen and opening up a cabinet which was stocked with liquor. “What can I get you?” Sam asked.
“Rye whiskey, neat.” You and Dean had both said it at the same time and your mouth fell slightly open in surprise. He was straightening up from setting down the tray of burgers and this time when he met your eyes he didn’t pull them away.
He smoothed a hand down his shirt and you thought you saw the muscle in his jaw tense. “Sorry,” he murmured.
You just vaguely shook your head. It was the first time he’d really spoken since you had arrived and it was to recite your drink choice as if he had been sitting next to you sipping them in the evening in front of a log fire just the day before. In reality it had been months and months and months since you had even spoken to each other.
Sam watched the extended gaze between the two of you, the air in the room feeling thicker by the second and he thought about making some excuse to leave, but Bobby was expected in at any moment anyway so he cleared his throat and busied himself with a glass and the whiskey. “Comin’ right up.”
“Umm—” Your eyes were still connected with Dean’s and he was finding it hard to look anywhere else now that he had started studying you. “I’m just gonna—jacket…” Dean said, starting to take off his coat and heading out of the kitchen toward the front room. You didn’t want to admit it but just the sound of his voice, deep and somewhat gruff, was threatening to make you weak at the knees. It conjured images in your mind of lost times that were both precious but also now profoundly painful now that they had passed.
When Sam next looked up, you were standing stock straight in the middle of the room, staring in the direction Dean had gone with a queer expression on your face. It was questioning and a bit sad, but Sam noted that there was no hostility. “Here you go,” he said, breaking the spell you seemed to be under and handing you a small tumbler with your drink.
“Oh. Thanks,” you said, accepting it gratefully from him and immediately taking a big gulp.
Sam’s brow furrowed slightly. “Are you alright?”
“Me?” you asked in surprise. You constructed the most casual expression you could and shrugged. “Yeah. Fine. Just… I don’t know what the hell Bobby was thinking—”
“Well, you could ask me yourself,” he said, rushing into the kitchen.
“Good. Fine. What the hell do you think this is going to accomplish?” you asked him in a hurried undertone.
“What? Dinner? Well, I think we’ll all be a bit less hungry at the end of it,” he said, clearly snarky on purpose.
You shut your eyes and gritted your teeth against the wave of annoyance. “You know that isn’t what I mean.”
Bobby sank into the chair at the head of the table. “Dean! Get your hide in here! Time to eat!” He turned his eyes to you again. “Y/N, are you going to join us or are you just—going to run away? Again.” He knew what he was saying. He knew that would get you fired up. And it did. You opened your mouth to argue, feeling another swell of exasperation rising up inside you but Dean was breezing into the kitchen again and taking a seat at the table, leaving the only empty chair the one right between him and Bobby. You felt like the wind just went out of your sails and Bobby smirked at you from his seat.
You bit your tongue and sank into the empty chair.
Dinner was composed almost entirely of Sam and Bobby asking questions of you and you and Dean avoiding looking at each other. You answered the queries as succinctly as you could until Sam finally found something to crack open the hard shell you were holding around yourself.
“Y/N, what happened here?” he asked, pointing to his own forehead above his right eyebrow with a vertical slashing motion. “You didn’t have that scar before, did you?”
Dean’s eyes shot over to your face immediately and you actually froze with your glass halfway to your lips, the next moment setting it back down without any thought of a sip. You cleared your throat and pressed your napkin to your lips briefly, almost as an excuse to hide part of your face for a moment as you steeled yourself against the involuntary torrent of residual fear. “No. No, that one is new.” You had sincerely hoped that Sam would allow you to leave it at that but, of course, he didn’t. And you could feel Dean’s eyes drifting over your face and sense his… apprehension? Concern?
“What happened?” Sam asked, his eyes now narrowed a little in genuine concern too.
“Just a hunting souvenir,” you said, trying to manage your tone so it sounded casual. You avoided everyone’s eyes.
Bobby was considering your body language carefully. He was debating about pressing you further. He could see that there was real fear surrounding that memory. Not only did he now want to know what had happened, but he knew this would break down both you and Dean’s constructed walls. What would be better at getting the dialogue going than vulnerability? “What was the monster?” Bobby asked.
You couldn’t avoid such a direct question without it being blatantly obvious. “Vamp nest,” you said, staring down at your plate. You felt like you couldn’t breathe. The familiar tunneling at the edge of your vision warned of a panic attack and you stood up abruptly, the movement emphasized by the groaning of your wooden chair on the floor. “I need some air.” You practically ran out the front door and onto the porch, leaning heavily on the railing and trying to force your heart and lungs to slow. You’re okay. You’re okay. You’re fine. Just bad memories.
Inside, Dean was staring down the hallway where you disappeared and Sam and Bobby exchanged a concerned look, both now feeling a little guilty for pressing you. Something had happened on that hunt, more than the usual bumps and bruises.
Dean felt a familiar tightness in the center of his chest and even reached a hand up to absently rub at it to no effect. “Someone should go make sure she’s okay,” he said, turning back around to look at his little brother.
Sam nodded. “Yeah, I think you’re right,” Sam agreed, but he made no move to get up. Dean’s eyes next landed on Bobby.
“I agree with Sam,” he said pointedly, also stubbornly leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms over his chest.
Dean’s jaw tense and the muscle twitched. “Oh, come on. I can’t—I’m probably the last person she wants to talk to right now,” he growled.
“Well, then I guess we’ll just leave her out there alone,” Bobby said, reaching for his beer. “She’s a grown up. She’s tough. She’ll be fine.” Dean was stubborn, but so was Robert Singer.
Sam was almost ready to cave and go check on you when Dean stood up abruptly, the same groan from his chair mimicking the one yours had made, swearing under his breath. You heard footsteps coming up the hall and the familiar sound of the squeaky screen door and straightened up. You were surprised to see Dean when you turned.
“Oh—” The noise of surprise escaped your lips involuntarily and Dean shrugged in response.
“Yep. It’s me. …sorry,” he said.
Your heart had slowed mostly back to its usual steady pace and you just stared at the older Winchester for a long moment. The silence was awkward, tense, and you found yourself wondering how long it was going to go on.
Dean shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans and stole fleeting glances at your expression. He had to clear his throat. Why did it feel so suddenly constricted. “Umm—are you okay? You left kind of suddenly in there?”
“I’m fine.”
He nodded, his lips pressing together in a thin line, the corners turning downward. “Good. …okay.”
You expected him to leave, having done the bare minimum to check on you, but he just went on standing there. So, you just went on waiting… for what felt like an eternity. You had a feeling that he was teetering on the edge of saying something and you gave him an inquisitive look, one of your eyebrows lifting of its own accord.
Finally, his green eyes rose from staring at his boots and landed on your face. He seemed to decide something in that moment. “Do you want to talk about it?”
“… ‘it’?”
“The hunt. How you got that fresh scar?” he asked, inclining his chin and his eyes flashing toward what had obviously been a good gash on your forehead.
You turned away from him again, trying hard to suppress the flash of fear you felt from changing your expression, and leaned on the railing again, looking out over the junkyard. “Not really,” you murmured.
“Not really or just not to me?” he asked. You were a little surprised at his bluntness and turned to look at him again, but you didn’t say anything. You straightened up again and after giving him one last, long look you sighed.
“I, uhh… I think I’m just gonna head out,” you said. “This was—whatever Bobby was thinking, I just—I’m gonna go.”
You could see Dean chewing the inside of his cheek, nodding ever so slightly, his lips pressed together again. When he spoke there was an edge to his voice. “Sure. Go. I guess the good thing is I’m not surprised this time,” he said.
You felt like you’d been punched in the gut and the air rushed out of your lungs like it had been forced. “What?”
“That’s what you do, isn’t it? You run. When things get hard, you leave. How many other people have you left in your wake in the past six months, hmm? And here I am, fucking stupid enough to somehow experience it twice. Well, at least this one is mostly on Bobby.”
You were breathing fast and hard now, anger and hurt boiling in your chest. “I ran? That’s what you think happened? I just—I just up and ran? Dean Winchester is the sole victim.”
“No, I—”
“It couldn’t have had anything to do with the person I cared about more than anything else in this world lying to me, for months, and betraying my trust over and over again. No, that wasn’t it!” Your tone was dangerous and rising in volume along with your anger.
“I never said that I didn’t fuck up!” Dean roared back. “But you didn’t stick around long enough to even try to fix it—so I obviously,” his jaw clenched, “we obviously didn’t mean that much to you if you were able to just go tearing off like you did!”
You stared at him, incensed at his accusation. Your fists were clenched so tight your fingernails were digging into your palms, and you didn’t give a shit that Sam and Bobby could probably hear every single word.
“I couldn’t even get you on the goddamn phone,” Dean said. “You were just gone! Do you know what Sam and I thought? For months, we thought you were going to go barreling into something and get yourself killed, which is what started this whole thing in the first place! And now you show up here with that new scar on your forehead—what the hell have you been doing? A vamp nest? Jesus, Y/N, do you think you’re fucking invincible? You need back up!”
You broke your dangerous silence violently. “I had fucking back up! I had back up!” you yelled, sounding almost desperate. Dean’s anger broke at that exact moment and he watched you turn away from him again, slumping your weight down onto the railing. “I had fucking back up…” you said quietly.
Dean’s mind was whirring and he had a horrible sinking feeling in his stomach.
You were staring down at your clasped hands. “You really think all I do is run? That’s what you think of me? Well, guess what? I didn’t. My hunter partner, one of my oldest friends, got caught and he tried to tell me to get out and I didn’t. I stayed. And you know what happened? They killed him in front of me and they turned me. I woke up with my head split open and the worst—I somehow managed to fight the bloodlust, murder those sons of bitches, and give myself the cure.” You sighed heavily, hanging your head and shutting your eyes, before straightening up again and looking at Dean. He thought he saw tears starting glisten in your eyes. “So, running or staying, I guess I can’t win.”
Dean was at a loss… He had said so much in hurt, in anger. He felt like a complete jackass. “Y/N, I—”
But you interrupted him and held up a hand. “Just don’t, okay? I don’t want to fight with you, Dean. I’m just… I’m just frickin’ tired. From all of it.” You stepped past him and grasped the screen door handle when he interrupted you again.
“No,” he said suddenly, forcefully. “No. This time I’m not just gonna let you go.” There was a fire suddenly blazing in his green eyes, making it look like the hues in his irises were dancing.
“Let me?”
“That was maybe the biggest mistake I’ve ever made in my life,” he said. “And I don’t care if you don’t want to fight with me, I want to fight with you. Because I can’t go on like this, pretending that I’ve just moved on and that I’m fine with you not being in my life anymore because I’m not. I have to try. So, let’s fight. And, if at the end of it, you still don’t want anything to do with me, I can—I can try and live with that, because at least I’ll know I tried.”
You peered at him in bewilderment, your hand still on the screen door, but slowly your fingers slipped from it and the glassiness in your eyes returned as you looked at him. “You hurt me so badly—”
“I know. And you’re right about everything you said. I betrayed your trust. I lied to you for months, and the whole time Sam was telling me I was being a fucking idiot, and, God, I hate it when he’s right…” Dean gulped and stepped a little closer to you. He wanted so much to break that space barrier between you, just to touch your arm… just to hold your hand. “And if I could go back and do it over again, I wouldn’t be so insecure and so—so terrified. I would do it all differently. But at least allow me to explain to you—” he sighed in frustration. All his words were trying to come out at once. “I thought that because I was trying to protect you that it was justified. I didn’t—I didn’t—” he let out a frustrated growl at himself, that he couldn’t find the words. “Relationships are a partnership. We were a team. And I went completely against that and I made decisions for me and for you without including you. I see that now. And I’m so, so sorry. But then you just left… you just—” Dean felt like his voice was about to break and stopped. “And that hurt me more than I even allowed myself to realize at the time.”
Your face softened as you looked at him, the evening now wearing on and the diminishing light making his eyes look deeply emerald. Dean watched your lips part a little in a soft frown, saw your shoulders fall a little.
“Everyone leaves,” he said, and in that moment you saw the little kid in him, simply afraid of losing again and again and again. “One way or another everyone leaves and I just—I never thought that it would be you.”
That stung like a hot knife between your lungs and you felt off balance. The silence stretched for a long moment before you broke it with a heavy sigh. “To be fair, neither did I,” you said. You squeezed your eyes shut along with one of your fists. “I was just so angry and so—it was my fight! And you took that away from me. And I can’t get that back. Can you imagine if I had done that to you? What if I had gone off and killed the thing that killed your mom or your dad without you? And had lied about it to you for months?”
“I know,” Dean said, and took a step toward you. “And I’m so sorry.”
You sighed again, feeling like the last of your walls had just come tumbling down, like Dean had pulled one brick out from the bottom and the whole structure collapsed. “Me too.” You realized that, in a way, by leaving as you did you had betrayed his trust in turn.
“Y/N, you have to know that you’re the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. Every day. Still. Always.”
You felt yourself, your resolve, crumbling further. Dean took another step toward you. “If you don’t feel anything for me anymore, then—please, just tell me right now and I swear I won’t—I won’t bother you again. And I’ll tell Bobby where he can shove his meddling."
You could only gulp nervously and go on looking back at him, the eye contact between the two of you magnetic. You wondered at how earlier in the evening you could barely look at each other and now you couldn’t stop. You felt tears stinging your eyes again and let out a wry laugh, blinking them away. “You’re an idiot,” you said through a teary smile.
Dean stepped a bit closer, his eyes not leaving your face. “I know.”
“This isn’t all just magically fixed—”
“I know,” he said again, his voice now a bit breathy. He was so close you swore you could almost feel the deep timbre in your chest, feel the heat of him, the weight of him.
You stared at him and only had one more second of indecision before you gave in. “Well… kiss me, you idiot.”
Dean didn’t need telling twice. You collided as if you hadn’t spent any time apart. Dean’s arm wrapped around your lower back and his other hand tangled in your hair. The kiss was fierce, insistent and you felt like you were clay softening in a sculptor’s hands. It was blissful to be melting into him again. It felt like you had been underwater for months and were finally able to come up for air. Dean was your air and you drew in deep lungfuls. He deepened the kiss and his hand pressed harder on your lower back, pushing you into him, your body arching against his. He clasped your face and kissed you desperately. Slowly his lips softened on yours and became pleading, gentle, and finally he pulled away slightly and heaved in a deep breath, leaning his forehead against yours, both of you breathless with your eyes closed. Your fingers trailing lightly down his back were familiar and felt like home. Your arm around his neck was comforting, safe. He pulled back so he could look into your eyes and your heart leaped at being able to study his eyes and count the freckles on his nose and cheeks.
“God, I missed you,” he said softly.
You smiled a little at him, still a little overwhelmed. “I missed you.”
His face turned suddenly serious again and he placed a kiss gently on the new scar on your forehead before meeting your eyes again. “I’m sorry that you had to go through that—and I’m—I’m really sorry about your friend.”
Your eyes fell. “Yeah. Yeah, me too.”
Dean’s hands were resting gently on your hips now and you took in another deep breath, just thinking of how much time you had wasted when you should have been right there with him… True, there was work to be done, trust to be repaired, but this felt like someone had just turned on the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Suddenly, hushed voices just inside drew both of your attention and you caught a glimpse of Bobby shouldering Sam out of the way and both of them trying to sneak back up the hallway, rather unsuccessfully.
You laughed and pressed a hand to your forehead. “Oh no…”
Dean gave you a comical look. “This is going to go right to Bobby’s head.”
“He’s going to go on a total power trip,” you agreed.
“Ehh… honestly, I think given the consequences of his actions I’m kind of okay with it.”
You stood on your tiptoes and pressed a kiss to his cheek. Dean pulled you in for another kiss before you could set your heels back down…

LeviHan/JeanKasa go on a double date? :D
HEEEEE! My babies! I think I hijacked it and wrote levihan meet cute because I can’t get this out of my mind! I hope this was cute for you💖
Child’s play
“But mommm!” Mikasa whines, her mother snaps her a look before she can think of stamping her feet.
“Levi is going with you or you’re not going at all! It’s not safe when it’s late! You know that!”
Levi is past protesting. He tries to be as compliant as possible, after all, his brother and his wife have agreed to let him stay in their house rent free after he got a new job in the city. He’s a thirty year old man about to accompany his fifteen old niece on a date. The word he’s looking for here is ‘chaperone’, but he hasn’t been around kids enough to know.
Mikasa huffs one more time for emphasis before she heads out for school. “We’ll meet you at the diner at five after cram classes...” Mikasa says to Levi, utterly defeated. And Levi feels bad for her really.
When Levi heads to the diner he’s surprised to see how tall Jean actually is. What’s even more surprising, is someone else bounding behind them. Another thirty year old by the looks of it. Mikasa waves Levi over sheepishly.
“Uh... Levi... Uncle Levi, this is Jean and um... Ms Hanji... She’s our biology teacher...”
Hanji extends a hand towards him and he considers for a second before shaking it. What’s this? Another thirty year old accompanying a fifteen year old on a date?
“You mean chaperone?” Hanji says, eyes blinking, and as she processes Levi’s words, a hushed “wait... This is a date?” Levi gestures for her to sit with him at another booth.
“What did you think this was?”
Levi can see the panic swimming in her eyes. “I... I don’t know? It was after cram class and I was starving and they were talking about a diner and I-“ she freezes, “oh my god... I crashed my students’ date...”
“Welcome to the fucking club...” Levi mutters.
“Thank god you’re here... Or I might have just shared a booth with them...”
Levi raises a brow, “and you would’ve stuck a third straw in their milkshake too I suppose?”
At that, Hanji guffaws. Levi smiles. And they say he has no sense of humour. They order food because Hanji is literally minutes from dropping dead.
She peers over to Jean and Mikasa when the waiter leaves with their orders.
Even from where they’re seated, they can clearly see that Jean is nervous. Poor boy is chuckling dryly at everything and tripping over what little words he manages. But Mikasa is looking at him with all the patience in the world, and she’s blushing behind her milkshake.
“Aww... They’re cute...” Hanji coos, “Jean’s a good kid...” she says.
Levi knows, sort of. Mikasa has been telling him bits and pieces about her love life and truth be told, he doesn’t know why she does it? It’s not like he offered good advice, or any advice at all. And Mikasa sure was taken aback when he had said “he sounds like a jerk...” when she had told him about a certain boy named Eren she had a crush on. But he also listens when she tells him about this new boy- Jean. Someone she’s been friends with for a while but has never really got round to paying enough attention to see that he has a massive crush on her.
“I never would’ve thought... Mikasa used to like...” Hanji trailed off, taking a furtive glance at Levi. Maybe she’s said too much.
“Eren?”
“You know?” Hanji’s eyes widen with interest.
“You know? Do teachers gossip about their students?”
She laughs, “oh you have no idea... Things get boring around the staff office most times... The other alternative would be to watch Dita scroll through thousands upon thousands of pictures of his dog... Granted it’s a cute dog but still...”
“Tell me about it... My colleague just had a baby and guess what everyone in the office has been talking about for weeks...”
“Ooof...” Hanji says. She understands. Nanaba’s just had a baby and she still doesn’t know what possessed her to show pictures of Nanaba’s baby to everyone at school. It’s just a really cute, really neat baby.
“I won’t tell anyone about this date though...” Hanji crosses her heart.
“Because if you do you’d have to tell them you crashed it?” Levi says.
“Exactly.”
“What do you think they’re talking about?” Hanji asks between mouths of her burger. She has abandoned the knife and fork that was given to her.
Levi shrugs. He doesn’t really want to know what his niece is talking about with what could be her boyfriend if this date goes well. “They’re playing footsie...” Levi supplies, gesturing over to where Jean and Mikasa have their ankles pressed together under the table. Jean’s saying something and Mikasa laughs. Now they’re both blushing like idiots.
They see Mikasa politely ask to pause the conversation and she whips out her phone to type something. Levi feels his phone vibrate in his pocket-
“We know you’re staring...”
“I think my uncle has a thing for Ms Hanji...” Mikasa says. If there’s one benefit of this entire situation, it’s that it makes for good dinner conversation.
“What?” Jean says, he doesn’t want to sound dismissive but- “with the way he’s glowering at her?”
“Oh that’s just how his face is... He’s also staring at her...”
Jean looks over to where Hanji and Levi are seated. Levi is indeed staring, there’s this look on his face that can only be described as constipated.
When Jean turns his attention back to his table, there’s an extra bit of steak on his plate.
“You don’t want it?” He asks.
“I want you to have it.” Mikasa is smiling at him and he thinks she’s his dream girl. He plucks the Maraschino cherry from his milkshake and places it in Mikasa’s.
“But... That’s the best part!” She says, confused. Jean knows. Mikasa does have a fondness for cherries.
He smiles, sure his face has gone red by now, “I want you to have it.”
“So why are you chaperoning anyway?” Hanji asks. Jean lives two streets away from them so they’re walking towards home. Hanji tags along for the conversation. Somewhere between the diner and home Jean has plucked up the courage to hold Mikasa’s hand.
“There’s been sightings of a weirdo in a hoodie in these areas crouching in the bushes... My brother and his wife decided it wouldn’t be safe for Mikasa to be out at night...”
They’re walking on the street across Jean and Mikasa to give them some space, and Hanji lets loose a laugh that startles everyone in the vicinity. “I think that weirdo would be me...”
“Huh?”
“I’ve been going around collecting mushroom samples. There’s a great variety growing around the different neighbourhoods.”
“And you do that in the middle of the fucking night because?”
“Because... I can’t sleep?” She smiles, and Levi is determined that she’s absolutely crazy.
“But... Maybe it would be best not to tell Mikasa’s parents that... I mean... I wouldn’t mind... You know... Tonight was nice...”
“Hanji... We can hang out without chaperoning... Besides... I think Mikasa and Jean would prefer if we didn’t tag along.”
They pause a distance from the house and avert their gazes when Mikasa gives Jean a kiss on his cheek.
“I think that’s our cue to leave them alone... Wanna walk me?” Hanji says and they only turn back to look when the door shuts and Jean stands in the corner of the street and whoops. He does a little private jig and Levi is smiling, “I think it went well...”
Levi realises the walk isn’t “just a walk”, and is actually a fifteen minute bus ride away. Hanji offers to part ways at the bus stop but the night is still young, and there’s a breeze kicking up. There’s no harm in walking. They are at Hanji’s apartment block and she’s toeing the gravel, “so... This went well...”
“It did...” Levi says, “maybe we could do this again some time...” because he’s new to this city and it would be nice to have friends. Also he had received a text from Mikasa in the middle of dinner telling him to just go for it, and maybe his niece does give pretty good advice.
Hanji is grinning, there’s a dust of pink high on her cheeks and Levi thinks maybe it’s the light. “You wanna come in? We could be a couple of thirty year olds watching reruns of Friends...”
Levi feels his heart race, he thinks it’s a little ridiculous for a thirty year old to be standing under a street lamp panicking over what may be a crush, but here he is, doing just that.
“I hate Friends...” he says, very eloquently, “but I’d like that...”

For Women of SVU Week 2021: Day Six: There was only one bed
Ship: Kat x Amanda
Warnings: Smut, including oral and fingering
Word Count: 2115
“Rollins, I just got word that our suspect got picked up in Westhampton's. We need to go pick him up.”
Amanda looked up at Kat. “When?”
“ASAP. ADA wants him arraigned tomorrow.” Kat gave the older detective a sympathetic look. “Sorry, Rollins. Hamptons PD says we can get him first thing tomorrow morning.”
“That means leaving tonight.” Amanda rubbed her forehead in frustration. “I’ll see if I can get someone to watch the girls.”
“Sorry, Rollins.” Kat smiled, trying to come up with something comforting. “On the bright side, mini vacay? I can make us a road trip mix.”
“Fine.” Amanda grabbed her keys, heading for the elevator. “Go pack a bag. I’ll meet you back here.” She paused, turned back to Kat. “None of that mumble rap crap, though. That’s not music.”
___
An almost 3 hour drive for two people who didn’t know each other that well was practically torture. The majority of the drive was spent in awkward silence. The only time they spoke was to discuss the landscape, or the case they were currently working on, Kat’s 90s music mix filling in the gaps of conversation.
This wasn’t like Kat, or Amanda. They were both quite talkative women, but there seemed to be an underlying awkwardness between them when they weren’t at work. Neither was quite sure why. They just didn’t seem to have a lot in common. Kat was young, while Amanda was a mom. That alone made their lives very different.
Chasing Waterfalls by TLC came up on the mix, and Amanda automatically turned the volume up.
“You like this?” Kat raised her voice to be heard over the music.
Amanda nodded, grinning. “Reminds me of when I was young.”
“Me too! I remember them playing it at my elementary school graduation!”
Amanda turned to her wide eyed. “Your what?”
“Yeah, it was fun- what?” Kat glanced at Amanda’s disgusted face.
“Kat, this played at my senior prom.”
Kat snorted, and quickly covered her open mouth with her hand. “Sorry, Rollins.”
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up,” Amanda muttered. “Respect your elders, Tamin.”
“Yes, ma'am.”
Kat’s tone of voice made Amanda’s breath catch in her throat. She had to quickly right the car so it wouldn’t swerve into the other lane.
Finally, the two SVU members made it to the motel that the department had booked for the night. It was just outside town, close to the station. Kat would have preferred to be closer to the ocean, but beggars couldn’t be choosers when it came to a free hotel room.
Kat noticed Amanda was already walking into the office, and hurried after her, catching the door just before it closed.
“You must be the NYPD!” The cheerful, older woman working greeted them. “One bed, right?”
“I’m sorry, what?” Kat leaned on the check in desk, blinking in surprise.
“That’s what was booked.” The woman peered at her screen. “A queen sized room.”
“But there’s two of us,” Amanda reminded her, her voice tight.
“I’m sorry, Detective. I’m afraid I’m all booked up otherwise.” The worker scrunched up her nose. “I think I may have a cot lying around.”
Kat and Amanda glanced at each other, their eyes wide. A motel cot was just asking for a messed up back for a week.
“We can share.” Amanda turned back to the counter. “Right, Kat?”
“Right.” Kat suddenly felt very thirsty, her throat dry. “No big deal.”
After dumping their bags in their room, neither looking at the single bed, Amanda suggested they find a pub to eat at. “I could use a drink.”
Luckily, there was a bar down the street that served dinner. It was dark and dirty, but Kat didn’t mind. The smell of grease made her stomach growl, and her mouth water. She hadn’t eaten since breakfast, forgoing lunch to finish up paperwork.
“Drink?” Amanda didn’t wait for Kat’s answer, flagging down the bartender.
“I’ll have a whiskey, neat.” Her eyes went to the blackboard menu. “And a burger with fries.”
The bartender nodded, then looked at Kat. “You?”
“Scotch and soda, please. I’ll have the burger too.”
He left to put in their order, and Kat’s eyes wandered over the tight space, with it’s neon signs and bright decor. “This reminds me of this lesbian bar in Brooklyn.”
“Ginger’s.”
Kat turned to Amanda, surprised. “You know it?”
Amanda just shrugged. “Of course.”
Their drinks were put down on the bartop, interrupting Kat’s follow up questions before they could start.
The combination of liquor and the exhaustion from the drive loosened their tongues. Over their greasy meals, Amanda and Kat found that they had more in common then they first thought.
Besides the obvious work connection, they bonded over the fact that they grew up pretty poor. This started a debate about whether it was worse to be in a New York winter without heat, or a summer in Georgia without air conditioning.
“You can’t say Winter is worse. You’ve never experienced summer in the south.” Kat noticed Amanda’s accent became more pronounced, whether it was from the talk of home or the alcohol. “You sleep naked, but still wake up hot and sticky.”
Kat’s thoughts betrayed her by imaging Amanda’s body sticky with sweat. She took a large swig of her drink, blood rushing to her cheeks.
___
The air was thick with tension as they changed into their pajamas, and slipped under the covers. Kat made sure to stick as close to the edge as possible, not wanting to make the other woman uncomfortable. She didn’t know many straight girls who were cool with sleeping in the same bed as her, unless they weren’t as straight as they said.
Was Amanda one of those girls? She knew about Ginger’s, after all. Maybe she’s just an ally, Kat thought. She had at least slept with two men, Kat knew for sure. There was no indication that Amanda was into women. Except the niggling feeling Kat got when Amanda stood a certain way, or the way she dressed sometimes. Her internal radar always seemed to ping when she looked at Amanda.
On the other side of the bed, Amanda turned onto her side. Then tossed onto her other side. Then on her back. She heard Kat shift. “Sorry,” Amanda whispered. “Can’t get comfy.”
“All good.” Kat turned to face Amanda. “Do you want me to ask for the cot?”
“Nah.” Amanda craned her neck to look at her. “Unless you want to.”
She felt Kat shake her head. “I’m used to sharing a bed.”
“With your girlfriend?” Amanda’s voice came out confrontational, making her wince.
Kat stiffened. “No, with my sister.”
“Oh.”
They laid in silence for a minute. A passing car illuminated their room for a flash.
“I haven’t had a girlfriend in a while,” Kat whispered.
“Yeah, the pandemic kinda killed the dating game,” Amanda replied, folding her hands over her stomach. “Men weren’t really beating down the door before then either.”
“But you’re so beautiful!” Kat blurted out.
Amanda just chuckled sadly. “A lot of the guys I meet don’t want an automatic family.”
Kat propped herself on her elbow. “Not even to hook up?”
Amanda wrinkled her nose. “I think I’m getting too old to play that game.”
“That’s ridiculous. You’re fucking hot.” Woah, where’d that come from? Kat winced.
Amanda slowly turned towards Kat, their faces close now. “Yeah?”
“Yeah...”
In a split second, Amanda made a decision. She moved, and pressed her lips to Kat’s, who eagerly responded. Their movements became rushed, and soon Kat was pulling at Amanda’s tee. Amanda slipped it over her head, then helped Kat out of her own.
“Have you done this before?” Kat couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes.” Amanda’s mouth moved to Kat’s earlobe, her breath hot.
“At Ginger’s?”
“A lady doesn’t kiss and tell.” Amanda bit down gently on her ear, making Kat moan. The sound flooded Amanda’s stomach with heat.
Amanda moved down Kat’s body, leaving open mouthed kisses. Her fingers ghosted over the front of Kat’s sports bra, making her nipples pebble. She leaned down, biting at one gently through the fabric.
“Oh, fuck!” Amanda hurriedly captured Kat’s groan in her mouth. Their tongues slipped over each other, wet and slick.
Amanda’s hand slipped under Kat’s hips, pulling down her pants and underwear in one tug.
“Let me see you,” Amanda said, leaning over to snap on the lamp.
Now in the light, Kat could get a good look at Amanda leaning over her, her bare chest right in front of Kat’s face. Her breasts were full and round with pink stretch marks, and tiny nipples.
“Fucking gorgeous,” Kat breathed.
Amanda’s face broke into a cocky grin. “Not so bad yourself.”
They met back in a hurried kiss, tongues swirling around each other.
Kat felt Amanda’s hand on her inner thigh, stroking the sensitive skin. Kat shivered at the sensation, her eyes closing.
“What do you want?” Amanda’s voice in her ear.
Kat’s legs opened wider, begging for her touch. “Anything. You.”
Amanda’s mouth took her previous path, this time making it all the way down to where she wanted her most, the scent making Amanda’s mouth water.
She slid a finger down Kat’s slit, making the other woman gasp. She couldn’t help but tease, liking the way Kat’s eyes screwed shut in frustration.
“Amanda, please...”
Amanda ducked her head down, her mouth taking her finger’s place. She teased Kat’s entrance with her tongue, savoring the wetness that gathered there.
“Please.”
Her tongue made contact with Kat’s clit, making her back arch. Kat’s thighs tightened around Amanda’s head more and more with every swipe.
“Fuck, just like that.”
Kat let out a gasp, Amanda’s mouth sucking hard on her clit. Heat built in Kat’s body, her muscles growing tight. The sheets were curled tight in her clenched fists.
“I’m close!”
Amanda could feel her, the wetness clinging to her lips, Kat’s hand moving to her hair, pulling gently as she pressed her cunt closer to Amanda’s face. Amanda suddenly pushed two fingers into her pussy, making Kat finally cum with a small scream of her name.
Amanda scissored her fingers, letting Kat ride out her orgasm, then moved up her body to give her a kiss, letting Kat taste herself on Amanda’s tongue.
Kat used the distraction to flip Amanda onto her back, straddling her hips. “My turn.”
Amanda shimmied out of her bottoms, finally leaving her bare. “Be my guest.”
Kat took her time, hands tracing Amanda’s breasts and collarbone. The light touch raised goosebumps on her body, her nipples hard. Kat circled one, then the other.
“Harder.” Amanda’s hand went to her own chest to demonstrate the strong pinch she liked.
“You like it rough, huh?” Kat decided to up the game, and bit down on Amanda’s nipple instead.
Amanda groaned. “Fuck yeah, like that.”
Kat took the nipple in her mouth, sucking and biting the flesh. Amanda moaned loudly, her hand drifting down to her clit.
In a flash, Kat grabbed her wrist. “Nuh uh.” Kat grabbed the other wrist, and pinned them above Amanda’s blonde head. “Do I need to grab the cuffs?” Kat licked a stripe along Amanda’s neck. “Or are you going to be good?”
“I’ll be good,” Amanda promised. “But you should probably get going.” She bucked her hips pointedly, urging Kat to her pussy.
“Keep your hands there,” Kat ordered. She let go of Amanda, testing her. To her credit, Amanda didn’t move. “Good girl.”
She moved down the bed so she could get into a better position in front of Amanda’s cunt. It was mostly bare, except for a small triangle of blonde hair. Her lips were wet with her slick.
Kat stroked her clit with her thumb, and in a quick move, thrust three fingers deep into her pussy, finding no resistance.
Amanda screamed, but didn’t move her hands to push Kat away. Kat pistoned in and out of her. “So good taking my fingers, baby.”
Kat’s words made Amanda tighten, her walls clenching down against Kat’s fingers. She moves her hand to massage Amanda’s front wall, the spot that Amanda could never reach on her own.
It wasn’t long before Amanda was shuddering and gasping. “Oh, God….”
Kat withdrew her hand, pressing them into Amanda’s mouth. Her tongue made good work of cleaning off the younger girl’s fingers.
They both laid on their backs, breathing hard. Kat reached over to turn the lamp off, plunging the room back into darkness.
Amanda curled on her side, and Kat slung an arm around her waist, burying her face in her neck.
All tangled up, their tiny bed didn’t seem as small anymore.

Turning Pages - Chapter 8
Intrulogical bookshop au! Read the whole thing on ao3 here.
Remus had really tried not to be stalker-y when he texted Virgil for Logan’s work hours that morning. He just wanted to surprise the cute boy who had been filling his thoughts up! And it had worked, because here Logan was letting him drag him out for dinner. Not only that...but Logan trusted him! It made his gay little heart sing.
“A diner?” Logan questioned as they sat down in a booth. The place was mostly deserted despite it being peak season on the boardwalk. Luckily their home town was just far enough from the water to not be a tourist trap.
“My favorite diner. It...used to be better, but the owner died a while ago and his daughter didn’t wanna inherit the place. But she did. At least she kept the staff because Ed in the back knows how to make a killer burger,” Remus explained with a grin. “You wore your new tie today.”
“I did, and though it was mostly hidden behind the apron, it was a somewhat nice change to my usual rounds of blue ties,” Logan said, looking over the menu with slight distrust. “I saw you and Cthuwu had a wonderful day together. I liked the pictures you updated me with throughout the day.”
“I’m glad! I took him to meet Jan and Jan’s snakes, and then him and I went on a ride and I’m immensely happy he didn’t fall off the back of the bike. He’s in the saddle bag now, napping I imagine. It’s been a long day for a little stuffed octopus.”
“You’re quite good at giving personalities to inanimate objects,” Logan observed, deciding he was just going to get whatever Remus got since the other clearly knew the place better.
“Yeah, it’s a skill of mine.”
“Is this akin to an average day of yours? Just...filling your time with whatever you want to do?”
“Well. yeah. I’m not a college person, and I’ve hit a wall with the latest piece I’ve been working on. Apparently being an artist is just as bad as being a writer when it comes to creative blocks…”
“You’re an artist?” Logan asked with a small smile. “I should have known. You had paint smeared on your cheek when you came to Patton’s book reading. I assumed you were just messy.”
“Well, I am messy, but absolutely, Loganberry. I’ll show you my stuff sometime. I can never pick a medium, so it’s pretty inconsistent.”
“Somehow that does fit in with your, ah…’vibe’. Did I use that correctly?”
“Sure did, babes,” Remus winked.
The waiter came over to take their orders and Remus put his in for a bacon cheeseburger and asked for a note to be put down for Ed in the back that it was him. Logan asked for the same thing, just with no tomatoes.
“You got a tomato vendetta?” Remus asked with a chuckle.
“Awful texture. Slimy goo with little seeds inside...I cannot stand them,” Logan replied, scrunching his nose up.
“Aw...you’re adorable, you know that?” Remus said, leaning forward on his hands.
“Oh, well…” Logan’s cheeks started to turn pink. “I suppose if you find a hatred of Solanum lycopersicums adorable then, yes.”
“Solanum...I have no clue what you said, but I certainly liked the way you said it,” Remus grinned. “Though your hatred of tomatoes isn’t the sexiest thing about you, it certainly makes the list.”
“Well, now you’re just flirting.”
“Yes,” Remus laughed. “Have been for a while, but thank you for finally noticing, Specs.”
“Oh, apologies. I’m not the best at picking up on such things.” “I noticed” Remus smiled. “But it’s okay. According to many people, I never know when to shut the fuck up or tone it down, so we both suck.”
“You’ve been quite good thus far, I hadn’t noticed. Well, except when you screamed in the bookshop. That was rather crass.”
“That bookshop,” Remus smiled fondly. “Do you wanna tell me what’s up with you and that bookshop? I can tell you really love that place. There has to be a story there, right?”
“A story? Hardly. I simply did not connect with my peers as a child, and as a result I spent most of my time in Mr. Sanders’ shop and then started working there when I was of age,” Logan shrugged. “I find the shop comforting, and I am in charge when Mr. Sanders goes away, which is quite often actually. But I don’t mind. The bookshop makes me happy.”
“That’s totally a story, babes,” Remus chuckled, nodding a thanks as their food was brought out. Nothing special, exactly what you would expect from a run down diner, though a bottle of hot sauce was placed on the table right after which he happily grabbed. “And it’s cute. It’s nice that you have something like that.”
“Do you have a metaphorical - or physical - bookshop?” Logan asked, taking the ketchup bottle from the end of the table. Seems his hatred of tomatoes only applied to solid ones.
“Do I have a thing that makes me happy?” Remus asked. “I dunno. Lots of stuff. I like riding my motorcycle and watching horror movies...and visiting Duke at the aquarium. Painting, Halloween, going to the Renaissance fair with Ro...all those are things that make me happy.”
“Those are valid, but I meant in a larger sense,” Logan said. “For example, at the bookshop I feel as if I have a purpose which is psychologically very important for humans. I suppose I’m asking if you feel as though you have something that gives you that.”
“Pretty deep for second date conversation,” Remus said, smile faltering for a moment as he looked down at his food.
“Apologies, I did not-”
“No, no. It’s all good,” he assured. “I’m not one to really keep secrets or anything. I just...don’t. Have a purpose that is. I’m workin’ on finding it, but nothing ever really seems to fit right. Y’know? And, hey, I’m a lucky enough person to be able to try stuff out until I find a fit. Not everyone has that luxury.”
Logan nodded, giving Remus a slight smile. “That’s okay, I’m certain you’ll find your metaphorical bookshop one day.”
“Thanks, Lo,” Remus replied, expression softening at the other for a moment before he took a deep breath. “Okay! Okay, pro tip here...douse everything in hot sauce. You’ll thank me.”
Logan did not douse everything in hot sauce, he claimed he wasn’t a fan of spicy foods. Remus was, though, and did just what he had suggested. They talked more about what they each did in their free time, and Remus really found he liked spending time with Logan. He was cute, sure...but he was adorable on the inside too. Remus was definitely developing more than a crush on Mr. Berry. When the time came to pay he covered the check without a second thought.
“We could have split it,” Logan said after he had paid.
“Why? This is a date. I wanted to pay,” Remus shrugged, looking outside. It was sunset. “Wanna go for a beach walk? You said you could tolerate sand.”
“I did say that, didn’t I?” Logan said, looking out to the beach. “Very well. We can go for a walk.”
Remus grinned, standing up the second his card was handed back and taking Logan’s hand which he noticed got another pink cheeked reaction from the nerd. They headed down to the beach, walking along the edge of the water, far enough away that nobody’s shoes would get wet. The summer nights were quite chilly on the shore, so the beach wasn’t terribly full. Remus only let go of Logan’s hand to go chase some seagulls, regretting the choice when the seagulls chased him back. Birds had been doing that a lot to him lately, there must be an anti-Remus bird conspiracy going. That was what he explained to Logan as he grabbed the other’s hand and fled from the birds. Their walk ended as the sun was gone from below the horizon with them both slightly out of breath and back at Remus’ motorcycle.
“In my defense...they usually don’t chase back,” he explained.
“It would seem this time they did,” Logan replied, brushing a hand through his hair to keep it neat. “But...that was certainly exhilarating in it’s own way. I can’t say I’ve ever run from seagulls before.”
“First time for everything,” Remus laughed, meeting Logan’s eye.
And, shit. He wanted to kiss Logan. He really wanted to kiss Logan. It would be so easy, just lean forward and smooch...but it was their second date and what if Logan didn’t want to kiss him.
“Remus, are you alright?” Logan asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, yeah. Totally, Specs,” Remus said, pulling himself out of that moment. “C’mon, let's get you home.”
“Yes, home seems good. I forget the sun goes down quite late sometimes,” Logan said, taking his borrowed helmet when it was offered to him. “I’m actually starting to somewhat enjoy riding the motorcycle with you.”
“Well, good! I like riding with you too, mon amour.”
Remus shoved his own helmet onto his head, getting on the bike and starting it as Logan climbed onto the back. He smiled when he felt the other’s arms secure around his waist and headed off. He parked outside of Logan’s building, getting off after Lo to say a proper goodbye.
“I will see you next time I see you,” Remus said, taking Logan’s helmet back with a smile. “I had fun on our spontaneous little date.”
Logan seemed to ponder for a moment before taking a deep breath and speaking, “Would you like to come up for some tea? I usually have a cup to relax around this time anyway...and I have lots of tea…”
“Heh, sure, Loganberry. I’ll come up for some tea,” Remus smiled, taking Logan’s hand again and following him inside.

Chapter 4
It had been a few days since Eden left Sids after they raped her.    She called out sick from work she couldn't face them.    The team was headed out to California and Eden asked if she could fly out and meet the team there.    They said that was fine.     Eden went out a day early and did some sight seeing.       It was nice.     The team arrived later that day.     She had just gotten finished eating when there was a knock at the door.    Eden goes and sees it was Sid.
"Eden please open the door." Sid says.
He had carnations her favorite in his hands and a stuffed Panda bear too.   Eden figured she might as well hear him out.    She opens the door.
"What Sid?" Eden says.
"I am sorry for what I did to you the other day." Sid says.
"Oh you mean raping me when I said no." Eden replies snarky.
"Yes I am sorry baby.   It will never happen again.     Kris is sorry too these are from us." Sid says.
"Look let's just let by gones be bygones.   I  won't say anything about what happened.   I won't tell your secret." Eden says.
"Please baby.    Think about it.    We really do love you." Sid says.
"Okay I will think about it okay." Eden says.
"Good baby.    We love you and don't want to loose you." Sid says.
"I will think about it okay.   Now I just want to go lie down.   I am not feeling well." Eden says.
"Okay feel better." Sid says kissing her softly on the lips.
"Thanks Sid.   Goodnight I will see you at practice tomorrow." Eden replies.
"Okay baby." Sid says kissing her head.
Eden took the flowers and Panda and shut the door behind him.    She wasn't thinking about anything she was walking out of this and going to be with Chase.
That was when her phone went off. It was Chase.
"Meet me down in the lobby." Chase texts.
"Wait you're here!" Eden texts back.
"Yup got a race here in Cali and then racing Phoenix and Vegas." Chase says.
"Let me change and I'll be right down." Eden says.
She throws on a pair of jeans and a black be brave shirt.    She then heads down to the lobby.
Chase was standing there waiting for her. She runs to him.
"Chase." Eden exclaims practically jumping on him.
"Hey princess." Chase says kissing her.
Eden kisses back not caring who was watching.
"I'm so happy you are here." Eden says.
"I am happy too I get too see my girl. Now let's go I have a special date planned just the two of us." Chase says.
They link hands and head out to them rental car. They both get in. Chase takes off towards San Diego.

"You will see." Chase says smiling at her.
45 minutes later they arrive at the zoo.

He goes and heats up their food. He had made chicken parmigiana and noodles along with a salad. When it was done he sits it in the table and then takes his seat. They each take a piece of chicken and some noodles.   They then add a little bit more sauce to each before sprinkling it with parmesan cheese.   They put some salad in their salad bowls and add the dressing.   Chase pours them each a glass of wine.
Eden takes a bite of the food and then says
"Oh my god it tastes as good as it smells."
"Thanks.   The sauce is my mothers homemade recipe." Chase  says.
"Well it's good." Eden  says.
They eat and enjoy each others company.   Once they finished Eden helped Chase  clean up and put the leftovers away and load the dishwasher.
"The flowers are for you." Chase says to her.
"Thank you Clyde.  Carnations are my favorite flower and pink is my favorite color." Eden  says.
"I know baby." Chase says.
"So wha are we going to watch?" Eden  asks.
"Since  I know how much you love scary movies I have the Conjuring universe movies ready to go." Chase replies.
"Lead the way." Eden says.
Chase lead her to the game room.   They both sit on the couch as Chase turns on the Nun.   The movie starts.    Not even five minutes into it Chase jumps at a scary part.
"Damn." Chase says.
"You really hate scary movies don't you?" Eden asks.
"Yes I do.    But I will watch them because I know you like them." Chase says.
"Well I will keep you safe Clyde." Eden says.
"I know." Chase says as another scary part happens.
They movie went on.   Eden felt him get a little tense and knew he was scared so she leaned in a little closer trying to comfort him.   Chase puts his arm around her pulling her closer to him.  She leaned her head on his shoulder.
It got to the part where the priest was buried A alive.    Chase started to shake.   That was one of his phobias being trapped someplace not being able to get out.   He was claustrophobic.
"Oh Chase." Eden says leaning in placing a soft kiss on his lips.
She would do anything at that moment to make him feel better.   She never experienced a man so vulnerable.
Chase kisses back putting his hands on each side of her cheeks.  Eden parts her lips slightly.   Chase deepens the kiss exploring her mouth with his tongue.
"Mmm." Chase moans deep in his throat.
"Mmm." Eden moans too.
"God Princess ." Chase says once they both come up for air.
"You are a good kisser Clyde." Eden says.
"So are you Princess." Chase replies.
She looks deep into his eyes and sees a bunch of emotion swirling in them.
Chase leans in kissing her again pulling her all but into his lap.   His hands roam up the back of her shirt setting her skin on fire.
"God Clyde take me to bed." Eden moans when he let her up for air again.
"God baby are you sure?" Chase asks.
"God yes." Eden says she wanted him so bad.
Chase picks her up carrying her into his bedroom.   He sits her on her feet closing the door.    Once the door was closed Eden pushes him up against it.
"Eden." Chase moans.
"I want you and I am going to take you." Eden says.
"I want you too." Chade says.
She starts to lift his shirt up placing soft kisses along his chest as she does.
"Fuck." Chase moans.
Once she gets the shirt up and and over his she throws it to the floor.
"You have the most amazing body Clyde." Eden says running her nails lightly down his chest to the band of his jeans.
"Thanks Princess oh god." Chase moans as she pops open the button and pulls the zipper down running her finger up his happy trail.
She works the jeans down his hips kissing his stomach with light fluttery kisses as she does.  Chase just moans.
She then works his boxer briefs down as well freeing his rock hard cock.   Eden licks her lips.  She places soft kisses on his stomach again before running her tongue down his happy trail.   She places soft kisses on each thigh before slowly taking his cock into her mouth.
"Fuck Eden." Chase moans running his fingers through her hair.
She sucks him in nice and slow running her tongue along the underside of his shaft.   She looks up locking eyes with him.   She keeps sucking him in and out of her mouth slowly.
"Fuck Eden that's it suck my dick baby." Chase moans gently pulling her hair as he starts to thrust.
Eden kept going slowly torturing him bringing him to the verge of cumming.
"God baby I am going to cum." Chase moans he didn't know what she wanted.
Eden gently starts to play with his balls never taking her eyes off him.
"Princess oh god." Chase moans as he cums hard down her throat.
Eden swallows every drop before slowly licking him clean.   She then slowly works her way back up his body pulling him in for a kiss.   She explores every inch of his mouth with her tongue letting him taste himself on her lips and tongue.   Chase slowly backs her towards the bed.  He breaks the kiss long enough to pull her shirt over her head tossing it.
"Jesus Eden that bra." Chase moans seeing it.
He pulls one strap down kissing her shoulder as he does.  Then kisses the other as he pulls that strap down.   He sucks and licks the tops of each breast peaking out from the cup.   He pulls the cups down taking one in his mouth running a circle around her nipple with his tongue before sucking on it gently nibbling on it bringing it to a peak.
"Clyde." Eden moans running her fingers in his hair.
Chase moves to the other breast doing the same thing.   He slowly unclasps the bra pulling it off tossing it aside as well.    He then kisses softly down her stomach to the band of her jeans.
He uses his teeth to pop open the button lightly nibbling on her belly as he slowly inches them down her hips and legs. Eden steps out of them kicking off her shoes.
"God baby those panties.  God so wet." Chase moans running his mouth over her pussy smelling her juices.
He then slowly works them down over her hips and down her legs.     Eden kicks them off.   He then slowly kisses his way up her legs placing a kiss on each thigh.   He blows cool breath across her mound as she slowly spreads her legs.   He runs his tongue up and down her slit before pushing inside starting to fuck her with his tongue.
Not long after he started Eden gently pulls his hair pulling him away from her.
"Fuck me Clyde." Eden  says all but begging him.
"God okay baby."  Chase says kissing his way up her body.   He picks her up kissing her letting her taste her on his lips and tongue and gently lays her down on the bed.
"God please Clyde I need you inside me now." Eden moans.
"God baby." Chase moans as he gently pushes inside her.
"God yes." Eden moans as he starts to thrust gently at first.
He wanted to go slow letting her adjust to his size.   She was so tight and wet.
"Jesus Eden you feel so good.  Like a glove." Chase moans.
"God fuck me Clyde hard and fast." Eden moans digging her nails into his back.
Chase moves a little harder and faster.   Eden wraps her legs around his waist letting him go deeper inside her.
"Eden oh god." Chase moans going even harder.
"Clyde god that's it." Eden moans as he stretched her even further.
She throws her head back arching into him.  It felt so good.
"God baby I am not going to last." Chase moans
"Cum baby let me feel it." Eden monas.
"Eden sweet Eden." Chase moans looking deep into her eyes as he cums hard deep inside her.
"Clyde oh god." Eden moans shuttering as her orgasm rushes through her.
She cums with him feeling him coat her insides.   She just moans as her body shutters from the pleasure.
Chase kisses her gently on the lips and then the jaw and neck as they ride it out.
"God Clyde again  I need you again." Eden moans.
She just wanted to feel that good again and not think about anything.
"Okay Eden but this time it will be nice and slow." Chase says.
"Please." Eden begs.
Chase starts to move again inside her taking it nice and slow.
"Eden god." Chase moans loving being inside her.
"Clyde god." Eden moans as he slowly builds her up.
"So close." Eden moans.
"Cum baby." Chase moans.
"Clyde." Eden moans as she cums.
"That's it baby milk my release." Chase moans as he cums again inside her.
They make love a few more times before Eden's eyelashes started to flutter.   Chase gets up.
"Where are you going?" Eden asks sleepily.
"Shhh baby I will be back." Chase says kissing her softly on the lips.
He goes into the bathroom grabbing a wash cloth wetting it with warm water.   He then comes over and gently wipes her down cleaning her.
He goes and tosses the rag in the hamper and then climbs into bed beside her.   She curls up to him laying her head on his chest.   Chase pulls the blanket up over them kissing her head as they both fall asleep.
**************************
The next morning Eden and Chase woke up when the alarm went off.
"Good morning baby:" Chase says.
"Good morning, oh god." Eden says getting up and running to the bathroom.
She made it just in time to empty her stomach in the toilet. Chase was right behind her. She got her everything up. Chase then picks her up gently and carries her back to bed.
"Sorry baby." Eden says.
"For what?" Chase asks.
"Getting sick." Eden replies.
"It's okay." Chase replies.
"I need to go back. I have to change before I head to practice." Eden replies.
"Yeah I know. I am glad I was able to see you." Chase says.
"Me too I will try and make the race on Sunday." Eden adds.
Chase smiles. He gives her a few shirts from his collection. They then head to the car and head back to Eden's hotel.
"I will see you later princess. I love you." Chase says.
"I will see you later Clyde. I love you too." Eden replies.
They share a few more kisses not wanting to part ways. But finally Eden heads inside and up to her room. She showered and got dressed and then heads down to the bus. Once everyone was on they head to the arena. Eden goes and gets the exam room set up in case they would need it for anything. That was when she felt arms snake around her waist.
"Hey baby, I missed you last night." Sid says.
"Hi Sid. Sorry I was so tired. Still getting used to the time change." Eden replies lying.
She didn't know what he would do if he knew she was with Chase. She was scared of him. It sucked cus she had a contract and had to work with the Penguins until the end of the 2021 season. Even though she wanted to quit.
"I know it can take effect on you but you will get used to it." Sid says.
"I know. Don't you have practice?" Eden asks.
" I do but I wanted to know if you were doing anything after?" Sid asks.
"No I don't. Sunday I am going to the NASCAR race before the game that night. But nothing today." Eden replies.
"Okay maybe I can come to your room, we can order room service and watch movies." Sid says.
"Okay." Eden says.
"Good see you then." Sid replies.
"Is Kris coming too?" Eden asks.
"Nope just me this time." Sid says.
"Okay." Eden replies.
Sid kisses her and leaves to attend practice. Eden grabs a little something from the snack bar and goes and watches practice. Halfway through Kris took a high stick to the face and there was blood.
"I got it." Eden says.
Kris comes down the runway and into the exam room. Eden follows him in. Kris was sitting on the table.
"Damn that hurt like a son of a bitch." Kris says.
"Sorry Kris." Eden says dabbing the blood away with a towel.
"It's okay. Is it bad?" Kris asks.
"Yes going to need stitches but shouldn't keep you out of the game tomorrow." Eden says.
"Good." Kris says.
Eden stitches him up. Kris puts his hand over hers.
"Thank you. Sorry for the other day Eden. Are you okay?" Kris asks.
"Yeah I'm okay. And your welcome it's my job." Eden says.
"I know. Im still thankful for you." Kris says.
"I know. I don't know what's going to happen between us but I promise I won't tell anyone about you and Sid. I just don't think I can do this. It took me to moving away and being away from him to realize how much I love Chase." Eden says.
"I know I can tell. Look if you want out that is fine. I know you won't tell anyone about me and Sid but I don't know if Sid will let you go." Kris says.
"I know." Eden says.
"Did you ever love us?" Kris asks.
"I loved you Kris you never hurt me.   Sid in the other hand." Eden says looking down.
"I'm sorry he hurt you Eden." Kris says lifting her head up.
He leans in and kisses her.    Eden kisses back.
"God." Eden moans as she pulls away.
"Go lock the door." Kris says.
Eden goes and locks the door.     She comes back over and climbs into his lap.
"God." Eden moans as he shreds her panties.
"I like skirts." Kris says.
"God." Eden moans as Kris pushes up into her.
"Ride me pretty girl. You know you want to." Kris says.
"God Kris." Eden moans as she starts to move up and down.
"That's it pretty girl." Kris says grabbing her hips.
They needed to be faster. Kris took control of their movements. Eden bit her arm throwing her head back to keep from screaming out. Kris nips and sucks her neck as they move.
"Eden fuck." Kris calls out as he cums hard deep inside of her.
"Kris. "Eden moans out as she cums with him.
They ride it out and Kris picks her up off of him. He stands up and fixes himself.
Kris then kisses her head before walking out the door. Eden collected herself. She then cleans up the exam room and prepared it from the game tomorrow. She then heads out and gets on the bus.
Once all the boys were on board they all head back to the hotel. Eden goes up to her room. She changes into her new Chase Elliott shirt and a pair of lounge pants. She wasn't feeling the greatest. She was laying down when there was a knock at her door. She gets up and opens it. Sid was there with room service and flowers.
"Come in." Eden says letting him in.
"Thanks." Sid says kissing her cheek.
Eden shuts the door.
"What did you bring?" Eden asks.
"Chicken noodle soup and ginger ale. Because I know you said you weren't feeling good." Sid says.
"I am not." Eden replies.
"I am sorry. Well let's eat and then we can relax and watch something on Netflix or something." Sid says.
Eden nods her head yes. So far it was going okay and she wasn't afraid. This was the Sid she started dating. They ate the soup and Eden nibbled the saltines. She sipped the ginger ale. Finally they laid in bed and Eden turned on Netflix. She turned on Sweet Home Alabama one of her favorite movies. She started to think about Chase. This movie was the story of their lives. Sid started to kiss her. Eden kisses back closing her eyes. As they were making out Sid runs his hands down her body. He runs them down her pants and under wear rubbing her pussy before sticking a finger in.
"Hmm nice and wet for me pretty girl." Sid says.
"Yes." Eden moans. She was pretending it was Chase.
"Want me to fuck you pretty girl?" Sid asks.
"Please." Eden begs.
Sid slides her pants and panties off followed by his jeans and boxer briefs. He then hovers over her running his tip along her entrance.
"Soaking for daddy." Sid moans.
"God don't tease." Eden begs.
Sid pushes into her and starts to move thrusting hard and fast.
"Fuck baby." Sid moans as she moves with him.
She wrapped her legs around his waist letting him go deeper.
"God." Eden moans digging her nails into his back.
She still had her eyes closed pretending it was Chase fucking her.
"That's it pretty girl milk my cock baby get ready to take my cum." Sid moans.
"GOd." Eden moans she was almost there.
"Fuck Eden god." Sid moans as he cums hard pumping her pussy full of his cum.
"Clyde oh god Clyde." Eden calls out as she cums too.
"What the fuck did you just call me?" Sid shouts slapping her.
Eden's eyes flashed open and she realized that by her fantasizing about Chase she called out his name.
"Umm." Eden says.
"Did you call me Clyde? Were you thinking about another man while I was fucking you." Sid screams at her.
Eden was so scared she didn't know what to say.
"Answer me you ungrateful ass whore." Sid screams.
"Yes I am so disgusted by you and how you treat me that in order for me to even attempt to have sex I have to think about Chase so I can get off." Eden screams out pushing him off of her.
She gets up off the bed. She was going to hide in the bathroom or something. She had her cell phone.
"You fucking whore. Don't you ever push me again or I will rip your hair out and choke you with it." Sid yells grabbing her hair pulling her back to him.
"Ow you are hurting me." Eden says.
"You think I fucking care. I hope it hurts. Remeber I am the only guy besides Kris who can cum in your sweet pussy. We are the only ones who can fuck you." Sid says.
"Fuck off Sid. I want out of this. I can't stand you. I fucking hate you. Get out." Eden screams turning around wailing out on him.
"You want to hit me bitch. I am going to show you." Sid says.
He picks her up throwing her back into the mirror glass shattering. He bashes her head against it not caring that it busted her head open. He then throws her down onto the floor throwing the mirror down on top of her covering her in glass.
"I will kill you before I ever let you leave." Sid says.
"Please I need help." Eden cries out.
"Fuck that bleed for all I care. If I can't have you no one will." Sid says as he kicks her hard.
Eden whimpers. Sid then leaves the room door slamming behind him. Eden still had her cell phone. It took everything in her to dial his number.
"Hey Princess." Chase says answering on the first ring.
"Chase help. I am hurt." Eden says.
"Eden? Where are you?" Chase asks panicked.
"Hotel Chase. Hurry." Eden says before she blacked out.
"Hang tight princess. I am coming to get you." Chase says.
You ever love somebody so much
You can barely breathe, when you're with them, you meet
And neither one of you, even know what hit 'em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling, yeah them chills, used to get 'em
Now you're getting fucking sick, of looking at 'em
You swore you've never hit 'em, never do nothing to hurt 'em
Now you're in each other's face,
Spewing venom in your words, when you spit 'em
You push, pull each other's hair, scratch, claw, bit 'em
Throw 'em down, pin 'em, so lost in the moments, when you're in 'em
It's the rage that took over it controls you both
So they say it's best, to go your separate ways
Guess that they don't know ya 'cause today, that was yesterday
Yesterday is over, it's a different day
Sound like broken records, playin' over, but you promised her
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game, but you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave
Out the window, guess that's why they call it window pane
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
But that's alright, because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
But that's alright, because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

"Here you go Scthu-ball, dinner is served." Greg declared to Steven at the beach house one day while preparing some ice cream with a slice of pie in it for him to eat. "Ice cream a la pie!"
"Thanks, Dad." Steven laughed as he took the bowl and ate its contents.
"Are you feeling any better?" Greg asked his son. "Looks like your swelling and glowing has been a no-show for the past few days." Just then, Steven stopped as he scooped up a spoonful of the dessert in front of him. "Y'know, that ice cream won't eat itself."
"Sorry Dad, just thinking about stuff." Steven said.
"What kind of stuff?" Greg asked.
"I've spent so long thinking about whether I really am Mom." Steven replied, trying his best to keep certain recent events from spilling. "Now that I know I've always been me, and also saved the universe by stopping Black Rutile, it's like I have no idea what to do or who me is. I wish I still knew what to do with myself."
"Well, I can relate to that." Greg sympathized with his son's plight. "When I was your age, I didn't know who I was or what I wanted to do with my life."
"So, you didn't always want to be a rock star?" Steven asked while processing this new information.
"No way!" Greg declared as he began to reminisce. "I didn't get my hands on a guitar until I was your age! Before I got the van, I had no idea what was out there beyond my old home, until I hit the road."
--
"Mom, Dad, I've got news for you." A younger Greg said to his mother and father long ago.
"Is it anything to do with your dropping out of the local community college?" Greg's father Thomas, who was as bald as his son would eventually become with glasses and a mustache, asked crossly.
"Or that van out by the garage?" Thomas's wife Gloria, a svelte middle-aged woman with brown hair in a bun, added curiously.
"Well, that's the thing, you guys." Greg stated. "I'm moving out. I wanna see the world, go out there and see what I can do along the way!"
"Are you serious Gregory?" Thomas raised an eyebrow. "You may be an independent young man now, but how can you possibly sustain yourself?"
"What do you mean independent?" Greg replied sternly to his father. "I mean, curfews and chaperones and all that, I'm not a little kid anymore! I'm 18 now, I can survive on my own without you breathing down my neck!"
Thomas looked about ready to yell at his son for talking back, but his mask of stoicism remained firmly attached before balling up his hands and letting out a loud deep breath, and putting a hand on Greg's shoulder. "Well, if you think you're independent enough my boy," he said. "then go on. Live your life, go out and see the universe or whatever." Thomas then turned and walked away from Greg. "Just be sure to write every so often."
"Wow, talk about less arguing than usual." Greg tilted his head in confusion when his mother took his hand. "Mom?"
"Your father's been trying to keep his temper from getting the better of him." Gloria stated before she started cupping her son's face. "Please Greg, no matter how strict and controlling we are, just remember that we're still your parents after all."
"Okay then." Greg sighed heavily before he picked up a backpack and headed for the front door. "Bye Mom, I love you."
"I love you too Greggy." Gloria smiled.
"Bye Dad." Greg then bid farewell to his father, but he received no answer. "Huh, of course." He groaned before walking out of his house for the last time and getting into his new van. After taking one last look at his front window, Greg pulled the van out of the driveway and set out for parts unknown. That day, Greg DeMayo left home, but maybe one day he could return as Greg Universe.
--
"You've seen other planets, but what about West Keystone or Charm City?" Greg said to Steven in the present day. "I've spent a lot of my formative years eating rest stop sandwiches and watching the trucks go by."
"So you're saying I just need a change in scenery?" Steven wondered.
"Exactly!" Greg declared and excitedly got up from the couch. "You're never gonna find yourself if you don't start looking! In fact, let's go right now!"
"Wait, really?" Steven asked hurriedly.
"No time, the road is calling!" a starry-eyed Greg announced before the father raced outside. "Can you hear it like I can?!"
"Yeah, I think I do!" Steven called for his dad as he raced after him with the ice cream in hand.
--
And so, the Universe duo left Beach City by van and set out on the open road, singing a familiar song along the way before they reached a Pepe's Burgers in Jersey.
"Dear old dad, remember when you would sing to me? We could do it again." Steven sang the same duet he and Greg shared from back after he had first met Lapis, albeit a bit shakier than previously. "Dear old dad, remember how I would sit on your shoulders? Well, how about now?"
As the trip continued, Greg continued relaying stories of his boyhood to Steven, awkwardness and all. "So that was the story of my first crush." Greg finished a story about the first girl he fell for at the gas station. "Things got really awkward between us as the years went on, but we decided to stay in the friendzone while she went off with that jock Tony. Hmph, cheerleaders, am I right? You met one during your trip with Spinel to Empire City, didn't you?"
"Yeah, Makoto's doing fine." Steven answered while looking at the Vipers' head cheerleader's social media profile before happening upon the selfie they all took together. "Before we left, she offered to introduce Spinel to the rest of the squad should she ever come back someday."
"Lucky girl!" Greg laughed before the two left the service station.
"Dear old dad, I was wondering why. As I got older, the days kept going on by." Steven continued the song. "Dear old dad, remember this too. In this whole wide world, there's no one like you-ooo-ooo-ooh."
"You-ooo-ooo-ooh." Greg began harmonizing with Steven. "You-ooo-ooo-ooh."
--
Eventually, Steven and Greg crossed over into a rather quiet neighborhood in Keystone when Greg pointed to a house nearby. "About two blocks away, that's where I played my first gig." He stated. "I wasn't even Mr. Universe yet back then, I was just a kid sneaking out after dark with a guitar to play."
"So where did the Mr. Universe name come from?" Steven asked quietly.
"You know what, how about I show you?" Greg suggested before he drove the van up to one of the houses they were driving along and got out with a determined look on his face. "Good, no one's home."
"Wait, what? Who's house is that?" Steven asked his dad as he seemingly committed a home invasion. "Dad!"
Greg still didn't listen as he jumped over the white picket fence and climbed up a tree with a branch pointing straight to a window, and Steven continued nervously following behind. When Greg opened the window on the end of the branch, he fell through before getting up and peeping out the other side. "This used to be way easier."
"You're rich Dad, it's not like you to steal." Steven cautioned Greg while continuing to follow him through the window into an empty room, where Greg was now looking through a box. "C'mon, let's get out of here before the owner comes home!"
"Just a sec, I'm looking for something." Greg stated.
"Well, what is it?" Steven asked.
"Oh, you'll see!" Greg replied before his son nervously left the room to explore more of the house, worry still present on his face.
"Is no one really home? Maybe I should write them a note." Steven wondered when he happened upon a picture of a mother, a father, and their curiously familiar son while walking down the stairs. "But what can I say?" he continued muttering as he reached the living room. "We're sorry that we have broken into your home, you must be very nice people with excellent taste."
As Steven sat down on the couch, he clutched a bowl of potpourri and gave it a big sniff. "And who enjoy potpourri." He added wistfully. "It's like a snack for your nose." Steven then got up to look at a collection of spoons and an assortment of glass goats beneath them. "Your fancy foreign spoon collection is very impressive, and so are your tiny glass goats." Soon, he finally walked up to a desk and picked up a pen before opening a drawer, hoping to find some paper. "Well, the pen is as good a start as any."
However, instead of paper, Steven discovered a neat stack of letters inside the drawer that seemed to have been sent by Greg. "Letters from Dad, and they're all unopened." Steven observed before looking at who they were sent to, and he made a startling realization.
Racing back to the stairs, Steven took another look at the photo and instantly recognized the nervous-looking son between his parents. "DAD?!"
--
While Greg continued searching through some boxes for whatever he's looking for, Steven suddenly burst back in with news of his discovery. "Dad, this was your house?!"
"Not exactly." Greg said. "This was my parents' house."
"Then this must be your room!" Steven declared happily. "I thought you said you grew up in a prison, but this place is beautiful!"
"I did kiddo." Greg replied somberly. "You have no idea what years of curfews, chaperones, and meatloaf were like."
"You didn't like meatloaf?" Steven inquired.
"Not every Thursday for twenty years." Greg groaned, sticking out his tongue in disgust. "I can still feel the taste. And did you know how old I was before I finally had my first taco?!"
"I also found these letters in a desk sent by you." Steven brought up the letters he found. "How come they weren't opened?"
"I can think of a few reasons why." Greg answered as he began picturing how his parents felt when he left home.
--
As Greg began leaving home in his new van, Gloria watched the vehicle drive off before sighing and sitting down with a book. Just then, her husband Thomas came back to the living room with a glass of whiskey in hand.
"You think maybe Gregory left because we were too controlling of him?" Thomas asked his wife as he sat down next to her. "He said he wanted to leave home without us "breathing down his neck" as the young people say."
"Possibly." Gloria nodded in affirmation. "The curfews were inevitable, but I believe the chaperones were a little much. But hey, at least I consider us better parents than mine were."
"That's because we never ended up hitting Greg." Thomas said in contemplation. "But still, maybe we were a different form of abusive towards him. Hopefully we can make it up to him someday."
"I'm not too sure." Gloria replied. "I don't even think he wants to think of us again."
Thomas just responded by bowing his head before taking another sip of whiskey.
--
"I'm sure it's fine. Besides, check out all your old things!" Steven said enthusiastically before he began to dig through another box and began taking out many of his dad's old things as he named them. "Is this your little hand?" he cooed excitedly while taking out a green handprint. "And your tiny baby boots!" he added as he took out some booties before moving onto a big trophy. "And a wrestling trophy! I didn't know you were a wrestler, maybe we could've been Tiger Millionaire and the King of the Pride."
"I didn't choose to wrestle." Greg stated before his son found a yearbook to look through. "My parents wanted me to be more active, so they kept making me do all these things." He could still remember how nervous he was in the ring and how he won by sheer dumb luck.
"A middle school yearbook!" Steven exclaimed while gazing at Greg's smiling face in the yearbook. "You had braces!" He then snapped a photo of the picture with his phone. "You looked a lot like me when I was younger, only more….human."
Steven looked a little down for a moment before he decided to look through the signatures in the yearbook. "So many people signed this." Steven commented. "Tim wants you to have a great summer, and who's Lauren Hecht? She sure wrote a lot."
"We were on mathletes together." Greg answered dejectedly. "Another one of the millions of things my parents made me do."
"Where are they anyways?" Steven asked his old man.
"Probably at their timeshare in Florida Island, they go there every winter." Greg stated. "They weren't too happy the first time I said I didn't want to go with them."
Just then, Steven dug up another picture of young Greg dressed in graduation attire, along with his hair being buzzed off all over and a dour frown on his face. "Your hair, it's so short!"
"Did you find my graduation photo?" Greg asked worriedly. "They made me cut it because we didn't have enough time, and it was right before a gig."
"Do you have any photos of you on stage?" Steven inquired while continuing to dig through his father's old things.
"Ha, are you kidding?! Everything music-related was off-limits!" Greg declared with a laugh. "Which is why I had to hide my stuff." Soon, he began thinking back to where he had hidden something long ago.
--
"There's a Starman waiting in the sky, he'd like to come and meet us!" a younger Greg sang along to a glam rock song. "But he thinks he'd blow our minds!"
"Greg, can you come out please?" the voice of Thomas asked while knocking on the door, sending his son into a panic as he hurriedly tried to shut down his music. "What is that you're listening to?"
"It's just a neighbor Dad!" Greg fibbed as he scrambled to take out his CD, but his father took it away just in time.
"Gregory DeMayo." Thomas shook his head in disgust. "Didn't we tell you that we don't allow music in our house, especially the ones all your friends are into? I mean, you know what the news said about what happened to Ozzy Cooper lately."
"I'm sorry Dad, I wasn't paying attention!" Greg apologized to his father.
"We can discuss this later." Thomas stated before handing the disc back to his son and walking out of his room. "Now wash up and come downstairs, it's meatloaf night."
"Again?" Greg muttered disdainfully as soon as his dad was far away enough for him to not overhear. Looking at his CD, Greg put it back in its case before sticking it back in a box with other CDs and hiding the box away in a ventilation shaft, where it would remain for years to come.
--
Back in the present day, the older Greg continued searching for where he had left that box while Steven had a question to ask. "Who's Ozzy Cooper?"
"Rock star from my day who's gotten in trouble for some less than wholesome things." Greg answered before letting out a mirthless chuckle. "Then again, who hasn't these days?" At last, he found the box and opened the ventilation grate, expressing relief that they haven't been found in the years since he had left. "Yes, this is it! We can get out of here!" he declared while pulling the box out of the shaft and heading for the window. "And leave that stuff behind."
As Steven put away his father's old stuff, Greg tried to leave his former bedroom the same way he came in, albeit with a bit more difficulty. "Okay, one leg at a time."
"Wouldn't it be easier to use the front door?" Steven suggested to his dad, who was already halfway out the window.
"Sorry Schtu-ball, force of habit." Greg sheepishly apologized before squeezing back through the window and walking out of the bedroom with his son. After taking one long, last look at his old room, the man formerly known as Greg DeMayo let out a sigh and closed the door on both the bedroom and his childhood.
--
The Universes left the house as night fell and when Steven was about to get into the passenger seat of Greg's van, Greg stopped him. "Hold on there Steven." Greg declared, spinning the car keys around his finger before handing them to his son. "This is your journey of self-discovery, so I think you should take the wheel, little buddy."
"But where are we headed next?" Steven asked as he decided to reluctantly get behind the wheel and started the engine.
"That's up to you." Greg answered before the van left the DeMayo household, leaving Greg's old hometown of Showne and making the long journey back to Beach City. "I get where you're coming from Steven. When I was little Gregory DeMayo, I was just going through the motions and doing what everyone else wanted me to do. Until one day, a friend in social studies passed me this." He then held up a CD featuring songs from the artist Kerry Moonbeam that he fished out of the box. "This CD has the song that made me who I am today, so hold onto your butt!"
As soon as Greg inserted the disc into the van radio, Kerry's music began to play. "Looking for your place in the universe, don't you know the universe is looking too?" the song started and Greg began to passionately sing along, but Steven was looking very unnerved. "Looking for its place in you, and now it's coming through."
"Hey-" Steven tried to speak up.
"Not now kiddo, you're gonna love this part!" Greg cut his son off while the song continued. "Welcome to the party Mr. Universe, we're so glad we're a part of you. Meet the rocks and flowers, the seconds and the hours. The splinters, winters, apples, chapels, teardrops, temples, cats and castles. Anything that you can be, the things that you cannot see, are Mr. Universe. Mr. Universe."
"Dad, is this where our name comes from?" Steven asked in a sudden moment of clarity.
"Yes, exactly!" Greg declared excitedly.
"You took it from a song?" Steven reiterated as he slowly started getting angry.
"Once I heard this, everything changed." Greg explained himself. "I suddenly realized that there was so much more that I've yet to discover that I haven't even dreamt about before! The whole world, the universe even, I wanted to get out there and see everything! So I drove off in the van on the open road and never once looked back at old Showne. I never would've known that years of couch surfing and the basement would've led me to your mother and you. But now it's your turn! Where does Mr. Universe make you want to do, Steven?"
"I-I don't know!" Steven exclaimed.
"Maybe you need to hear it again." Greg suggested and began replaying the song.
"Dad, this isn't helping!" Steven sternly declared and shut off the radio. Greg gave his son a frown and turned it back on, but Steven once again turned it off. The father and son duo then had a brief, wordless exchange of turning the radio on and off again, which got Steven angrier until he finally spoke up.
"I don't need this song," Steven declared furiously. "I need, I need what you had!"
"What do you mean?" Greg asked. "I understand if I offended you somehow and I'm sorry, but what's all this flying off the handle for!?"
"I wish I could've grown up in a house like yours!" Steven answered. "I wish I was just a normal human boy with a normal human life where the Gems never came to Earth to begin with!"
"No you don't!" Greg panicked when he realized something. "And where did this whole thing about wishing the Gems never discovered Earth come from?"
"Maybe your parents weren't so bad." Steven talked back, making his father gasp at such a comment. "Maybe they gave you curfews and chaperones and meatloaf for a reason!"
"Steven, you don't know what they were like!" Greg yelled in response.
"They can't be any worse than Mom's family!" Steven rolled his eyes irately. "I went to a different galaxy for them, and this was right here?!"
"Steven, you don't understand!" Greg tried to calm his son down. "I couldn't do anything I wanted growing up, they all saw what I liked or wanted as wrong! Trust me, you're better off than I was!"
"I can't believe I never realized until now." Steven declared while glowing pink yet again and tightening his grip on the steering wheel. "There's a reason Mom loved you! You're just like her!"
"But you grew up with actual freedom!" screamed Greg.
"I grew up in a stupid van!" Steven screamed back as his barely reasonable anger slowly got the better of him. "I never went to school, I didn't go to a doctor until a few days ago, my life is constantly at risk and barely anyone cares anymore!"
"You're a Gem Steven, you're not like other kids!" Greg exclaimed in terror of what could happen with Steven's fury clouding his mind. "Besides, if you were in school or went to a doctor, I'm just worried you'll attract the wrong kinds of attention!"
"I could've done all that stuff," Steven bellowed. "my problem isn't just that I'm a Gem, it's because I'M A UNIVERSE!" On that last word, Steven ripped the steering wheel from the dashboard while stomping on the brake as the van began to swerve out of control.
"STEVEN, WATCH OUT!" Greg's eyes widened in alarm before the vehicle tumbled across the road and crashed on its side on the dirt beside the road.
--
For the next few moments, Steven lied on the ground unconscious with only his thoughts taunting him about what he's done, along with the very faint voice of his dad coaxing him back to reality.
"She was right, you are a monster." A deep voice echoed within Steven's mind. "What boy would nearly murder his father for trying to talk to him?"
"No, it was an accident, I swear!" Steven responded to the voice.
"I know a liar when I see one." The voice replied. If it had a face, it would've certainly been smirking right now. "You'd rather live a life where the Gems never existed and you were an average human, right?"
Steven kept silent in response, pondering if what the voice said was right, until Greg's voice slowly became louder and louder.
"Steven, Steven!" Greg called out as Steven awakened on the ground to find his dad kneeling by his side. "Oh, thank goodness you're alright! You're lucky you're still in one piece! Me, I think I got a little concussion from the crash, but I think I'll recover."
"What did I do?" Steven groaned in pain from the crash that he caused. "Do you still love me?"
"You just started throwing a tantrum and caused the van to go outta control." Greg answered. "I already called a tow truck to bring us home, but that old hunk o' metal's been through worse. Everything will be okay, we'll get through this together. And, and I'm proud of you."
"What?!" Steven yelled with outrage as he got to his knees. "But I nearly got you killed! Why aren't you punishing me?! Please ground me for this, I'm begging you!"
"Whoa, never realized you were that kinda guy." Greg declared in a daze. "I don't care what you're into, I don't think I'm the one you should be revealing this to."
"That's the concussion talking, right?" Steven asked as the two sat down near the damaged van.
"Yeah, I think that might be mostly it." Greg answered. "But still, I don't think I was ever that brave enough to stand up to my old man like that! I'm glad you're more able to tell me anything because you're having a real hard time recently, I get it. Bismuth can help us get the van fixed when we get home, and-"
As Greg continued talking, Steven refused to listen and instead gazed at the photo of Greg's middle school yearbook picture on his phone. It took some much internal debating, but he then finally decided to delete the picture to express to himself how Greg was slowly becoming dead to him.
Unbeknownst to either father or son, a black, pill-shaped satellite with a white diamond symbol in the midsection hovered far above the highway and began transmitting the information it collected to a faraway cave in the forest outside Beach City.
--
And just like what we've been doing in some chapters, we end on a rather ominous note relating to a certain Rutile. What could she possibly do with the info the satellite gathered? Who is the Ron Perlman voice in Steven's head, and will he come back someday? At least a few of these questions will be answered in the earth-shattering conclusion to both the Tearjerking Three and Part 3, Fragments. Like I've forebodingly announced back in Enemy of my Enemy, you all know what's coming.
