Fuck, I need to remember to bring the Wanderer's Journal back with me for a reread during the break, bc all I remember from it atm was the detail that the 'statues' in the Forgotten Crossroads are perhaps fossilized bugs, that the Pale King was a civil engineer whose architecture was specifically designed to work with the nature of Hallownest (at least in the Queen's Station), and that the beetle tribe in the City of Tears was racist towards the Mantis Tribe, considering them savage for using bone and sinew as building materials despite the Mantises having advanced mechanisms and entering a treaty with PK, which stuck with me specifically bc it indicates that the tribes in Hallownest are indeed extremely segregated via ancient cultural differences rather than anything tied to the gods. Which makes sense considering the fact that they're all segregated by species and have different needs/lifecycles as well as clear indicators of distinct tribes dwelling within the caverns for millenia pre-Radi and PK, but also godDAMN do I need more information on that bc its really, really fascinating

#hollow knight #like god politics aside #who you worshipped doesnt seem to impact the cultures of the natives much at all!!#for example each area has distinct architecture and territory boundaries from the other #which remain even if an area is 'technically pks' or 'technically wls'#bc even though unns power diminished and they annexed parts of greenpath #the land isnt too altered #and despite pk 'civilizing' bugs (which i think only means 'booting radi's influence')#all of the architecture of the tribes are visually distinct and advanced #areas without his influence are just as complex as those with it just in different ways #and if we assume the massive beetle corpses come pre-radi (void civ era)#then intricate metalworking was something the beetles already knew #meaning that their biases against the mantids are likely inherent to their respective histories and have no conflict with the gods!#which is really cool and shows that level of seperation between radi and pk and the people they fight over #meanwhile ghost meanders around all lands and comes to appreciate them all from the remnants of wht remains #augh im just. thinking about the different cultures and society structures again okay #aughhh theyre so good
