It’s kind of ironic that I wrote a fic where Subaru’s knees never heal enough for him to return to competitive volleyball and he has to watch from the sidelines as Yuni takes the spot meant for him in college… and then like a week later I got to a point in canon where Aoki sprains/twists/whatever his ankle and he refuses to acknowledge it, much less fucking stay off it. Everyone accepts it when he insists he’s fine, but they take it with a grain of salt and like keep an eye on him. Luckily after the set he lets Ibara tape it and lets himself be subbed out. But then their coach fucking puts him back in?? He doesn’t even protest or anything, he was wanting to go back in anyway but had played it off since he didn’t think he’d be allowed. They didn’t lose the second set due to him hiding his injury, but if the reason they lose the match is this boy’s fucking stubbornness, oh my god. He says his dad (who’s an architect) is always complaining about something hurting, so if he hurts himself permanently from this then it’s fine bc it’s normal even for non-athletes— I know how smart you are, so how are you so stupid. How is he simultaneously the smartest and yet dumbest character in this series, simultaneously the weakest and yet most stubborn. I love him, but I hate him. He doesn’t even like volleyball!

“I thought you were taking the kids trick or treating!”
Nobunaga Oda
In no way could Nobunaga be in charge of handing out the candy this Halloween— it would all be eaten by the time the first trick or treaters came! And he knew, if he was in charge of handing out the candy, he’d be able to sneak some in for himself. Nobunaga would be damned if he didn’t get to have some chocolate. But the earnest look on your face, and his two children in their little vampire costumes gazing up at him with such doe eyes convinced him to give in and take them out trick or treating himself. Besides, the more he thought about it, he didn’t want to miss this opportunity.
He takes his little konpeitos hands in his, and the two children start squealing with excitement. You give him a gentle smile, standing up on your tippy toes so only he could hear; “I promise I’ll give you an extra treat when you get home.” Oh, he’s never loved Halloween as much as he does now.
Bonus: %100 percent would pull the prank, and %100 would have actually eaten the candy.
Ieyasu Tokugawa
The idea of going out trick or treating makes him incredibly uncomfortable. Not because he is out alone with his children, but because the younglings have plopped a big pumpkin hat on his head, and in no way could he say no to them — and in no way could he bare to be seen in public wearing this damn hat! But alas, he did promise you he would take them trick or treating this year. And his little girl looked as if she was going to cry if he didn’t.
Huffing, he bent down to pick up his daughter and rested her on his hip; “Don’t cry, you’ll ruin your makeup and that took your mother and I ages,” he sighs. You laugh, ruffling your husbands hair, knowing in the end he would give in.
Bonus: No. He’s not that cruel and it probably wouldn’t be believable.
Hideyoshi Toyotomi
To be honest, he was always planning to take them trick or treating; he’s got bug spray, extra coats to keep the kids warm, his ‘tough dad’ face to scare anyone off he deems dangerous. Chances are he will probably put limits on how much candy they can have. “No more than two pieces!” is his motto. There was no debating that he would take the kids out, however— “Hideyoshi, you can’t see their cute costumes with all those coats wrapped around them,” you say, helping your little boy out of the many layers of coats.
“y/n!? What if they get frostbite?” You just shake your head, assuring him it is not that cold out and their costumes are warmer than he thinks. “Now take your children to get some candy, and have some fun,” you chuckle, hurrying them out the door, and without Hideyoshi noticing, sneaking your children some extra candy.
Bonus: No, but he will probably hide the candy somewhere for “the sake of their health.”
Masamune Date
“Masamune, that is not an appropriate Halloween outfit for taking your children out,” you snap. He indeed, wore a very sexy cop outfit, a smug look on his face to accompany it. Truth be told, it was appropriate enough, however, you did not want other mothers with their children looking at your man who’s slender legs and crotch are clearly defined by his tight pants.
You huff as he wraps his arm around you to tug you close and press a kiss to the crown of your hair. “Alright, alright, I’ll take it off,” he laughs. The sound of your children’s laughter as they play upstairs rings throughout the house; you try to pull away so you can go and help them finish putting on their costumes, but Masamune tightens his grip, bending down to whisper in your ear, hot breath against your skin, “But tonight, let me put it back on. I think my Kitten deserves a treat.”
Bonus: Certainly! Everyone loves a little prank here and there. Even his children, right?
Mitsuhide Akechi
Mitsuhide has no qualms with taking his children out trick or treating, and indeed, plans too— he is surprisingly desperate to enjoy this tradition with his children and make their Halloween fun, however, the trickster he is, he’s going to tease you and make you believe he had no plans to. “Ah, I’m sorry my little mouse, but I’m afraid I already have plans this evening. Maybe you misunderstood.” It’s hard not to laugh as you puff your cheeks and try to figure out what to do. “I guess… I guess I could call Hideyoshi to take them out.”
That breaks his facade, and he jokes no more. He’s quickly grabbing his Michael Myers mask damn straight, and calling his daughter down. “You’ll scare her with that. You’re all tricks but no treats!” you laugh, though your daughter jumps right into his arms anyway. “Have fun, you guys!” you laugh. Before Mitsuhide leaves, his daughter clutching her little pumpkin bag to her chest, he covers her ears to whisper seductively to you, “No treats, you say? My dear, I think tonight you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know I have quite a treat for you. Be a good girl, and try not to get too distracted at the door.” Happy Halloween to you, indeed.
Bonus: This is Mitsuhide we are talking about. He pulls this type of shit daily. And he’ll perfect this prank, those poor children.
Mitsunari Ishida
“…oh no! I forgot.” You thought Mitsunari and your son left hours ago, but you found them in the living room, Mitsunari’s nose buried in a book and the little boy in his ghost costume asleep on his lap. You sigh, but can’t help but laugh at the sight. Your son shifts a little in his sleep, before waking up and peering up at Mitsunari; “Daddy, can we go trick or treating now?”
With that angelic smile, he tells his son, “Of course!” Sweeping him up and heading towards the door to finally take him out trick or treating. However, before the duo makes it out the door, Mitsunari feels something light placed on his head. His son laughs, pointing towards his father's head exclaiming, “You’ve got cat ears!” At that, you give the two a grin and push them out the door for their Halloween fun.
Bonus: No :( in no way shape or form could Mitsunari be convinced to do such a thing.
Kenshin Uesugi
Genuinely thought you were taking them out. Kenshin wanted to be the one to hand out candy so he could scold any kids from the neighboring oda forces town for trying to get their candy. But then he recalled the conversation the two of you had two nights ago, where he did indeed, over sake, agree to take the young ones out trick or treating.
He sighs and gives you the game plan for handing out candy; “I will of course take my children out trick or treating, but you mustn’t give any candy to those kids from the town over. They’re corrupted by the Oda!” You just roll your eyes, patting your husbands back and ushering him out the door with his three excited children who are dressed as bunnies this halloween.
Bonus: May try to pull it off but the second he see’s his kids begin to cry, he breaks.
Yukimura Sanada
He knew he was supposed to be taking the kids out trick or treating, he was just trying to get out of it. He and Sasuke had a horror movie night planned for this Halloween, and though he knew he was a father adult who has responsibilities, he didn’t want to miss this! So alas, he tried really, really hard to get out of taking the kids out trick or treating.
But like any doting father, he falls prey to his daughters puppy dog eyes, and little pout, and sad little voice asking, “You’re really not taking us trick or treating, daddy?” He’s cursing himself and quickly texting Sasuke they will have to postpone the horror movie night. He lets his daughter sit on his shoulders and he takes his son’s hand, and takes them out trick or treating. And he must admit, he has quite a lot of fun.
Bonus: Yes, but he won’t last long either. He’ll be all into it until his little girl begins to cry and then he’s all uuuuuhhhh.
Shingen Takeda
Obviously, of course, wants to take his kids trick or treating. He didn’t forget at all, he just hoped he could have had a little more fun with his treat before hand. You were in a very gorgeous costumes, and he was enjoying it to the fullest. As you were enjoying his to the fullest. However, the sound of the children downstairs growing impatient was cumulatively growing louder and louder. Reluctantly, he pulls away from you.
But he loved taking his kids out trick or treating. He loved to see their happy smiles when their costumes were praised and candy was plopped into their bags. He’d every so often sneak a piece for himself, and when his daughter would catch him in the act, he’d get quite the scolding from her. “You get that from your mother.”
Bonus: Most likely not. He wants his kids to have a stress free Halloween.
Sasuke Sarutobi
Deadass, has been waiting for this opportunity his whole life, so in no way is he going to forget taking his children out trick or treating. Prepare for Sasuke to flop down from the ceiling in a full on spiderman costume. His children fall into hysterics, and you can’t help but shake your head, smiling at your silly husband.
“Your friendly neighborhood spiderman is here to take the kids trick or treating.” He says it with the straightest face too. Like little spiders, the children climb all over him as he casually walks outside holding their little pumpkin baskets. “Be home before it’s too dark!” you call out to your silly family.
Bonus: Due. But because this is Sasuke, and his children know just how goofy he is, they won’t fall for it.
Happly Halloween!! 🎃

CW: creepy whumper, slavery, biting, blood, forced to watch
Oda-rhine was thrilled with the results of the training, prompting Mika frequently, digging the nail of his thumb into Mika’s back whenever Mika didn’t talk loud enough for him, or just whenever he felt like it. Eno wasn’t stupid, he knew what an owner looked like when Mika and Eno were just being used as playthings. But each instance only seemed to wind Oda-rhine up more.
Oda-rhine never tried to pass off the mean little digs and slaps as part of training, though, which came as a relief. Eno and Mika knew what this sort of thing was. Without flimsy justifications, it became straightforward; painful for Mika to endure and hard for Eno to watch, but Oda-rhine was entertained and that meant they were doing well. That meant they were being good.
“Eeenoooooo,” Oda-rhine crooned, and Eno’s head snapped up, rushing over to the couch and kneeling at Oda-rhine’s feet.
“There’s my pretty boy,” Oda-rhine praised, reaching out to pet Eno’s hair. “My other pretty boy. Eno, come sit on the couch, behind Mika.”
Eno felt anxiety twist in his stomach, but did not hesitate to do as he’d been told. Once he was behind Mika, eyes on the thin cloth that offered no protection to the raw and aching skin of his back, he asked, “Oda-rhine?”
“Give Mika a hug, sweet boy,” Oda-rhine prompted, and Eno leaned forward, wrapping his arms around Mika’s chest, and tried his very hardest to keep the pressure of his chest against Mika’s back light. Mika gasped anyway, a small noise coming from his lips. That was good. Their owners liked Mika noisy. This was a good thing. This was good.
Eno’s eyes were squeezed shut and he didn’t open them when Oda-rhine’s large hand pet lightly at his hair. “You’re so obedient, Eno. Look at how good you are.” Eno’s chest relaxed a little, not so tight, and he opened his eyes a sliver, but kept his gaze down.
“But I don’t think it’s fair that Mika’s all marked up and you’re not, mm?”
Eno and Mika both went stiff as boards. Eno knew that they were expected to agree—would have been expected to agree, with their old owner. But Oda-rhine was different. And Eno shouldn’t speak.
“I-I don’t m-mind, rhine, it, it’s okay,” Mika said, shaking in Eno’s arms, and Oda-rhine laughed loudly.
“Awwww, you’re so sweet on him. Doesn’t matter though,” Oda-rhine said brightly. “Eno, c’mere. In my lap.”
Eno bit down on his reflexive “yes sir” and did as he was ordered silently. Oda-rhine frowned, and Eno’s pulse jumped, eyes wide. What had he done wrong?!
“I think Arkanan trained you too well,” Oda-rhine said with a pout, fisting a hand in Eno’s hair. “I want you to let Mika do most of the talking, not for you to go mute.”
“S-sorry sir!” Eno said, heart in his throat, hoping that was right. Oda-rhine smiled, and pat Eno’s cheek roughly.
“There’s my pretty boy.” Oda-rhine kissed him and Eno shivered in his lap. “My good boy. We’ll get you there, don’t worry. We’ll make you perfect. You try so hard to be good, sweet boy, pretty boy, you’ll get there.”
Oda-rhine’s words were a comfort, and Eno smiled at him. Yes, teach me to be good, he thought. He let his head be tilted to the side, Oda-rhine’s hand in his hair, and gasped when his teeth sunk into his neck.
“Make as much noise as you want for me, sweetheart,” Oda-rhine murmured, “It’s your turn.”
“Y-yes sir,” Eno said uncertainly, and let out a sharp cry when Oda-rhine bit down again, harder, right under Eno’s jaw.
Oda-rhine pulled back, a thin trickle of blood oozing out of the second bite mark, and he pet Eno’s hair, letting Eno press his face into Oda-rhine’s shoulder.
“Aw, sweet boy, I really don’t pay enough attention to you, do I?” Oda-rhine asked, and Eno whined, fingers curling in Oda-rhine’s shirt. But his other hand was busy, Oda-rhine holding it by the wrist, and Eno limply let him raise it to his mouth and yelped when Oda-rhine bit into it. He jerked in his lap, squirming as he started to bleed, much more profusely from that bite, but kept his face pressed into Oda-rhine’s shoulder, eyes closed.
His breathing grew more ragged. It hurt. But Oda-rhine was letting him sit in his lap, was petting at his hair and letting him cling to him. It hurt, but it meant Oda-rhine wasn’t hurting Mika. And Eno. Wanted it. He wanted his rhine’s attention, no matter what the fee was to get it. So he jerked and yelped and didn’t struggle when Oda-rhine bit down again, higher up his arm, and he started to bleed there, too.
“I could rip off a hunk of you and just eat it, couldn’t I?” Oda-rhine asked blithely, then giggled a little, pressing a red kiss to Eno’s inner wrist. “You’d let me. You’d thank me if I told you to.”
“Yes rhine,” Eno answered, shivering more pronounced now, breathing harder.
“I woooon’t,” Oda-rhine murmured, almost singsong. “But it’s a nice thought, isn’t it? That you’d let me play so rough.” Eno held still as Oda-rhine pushed up the sleeve of his shirt, and whimpered as his teeth skimmed over the skin of his shoulder. Oda-rhine fisted a hand into Eno’s hair, which was just as well. Otherwise his head would’ve snapped up when Oda-rhine bit into his shoulder, right on the bone. It hurt like hell, and the blood was soaking into his shirt. His breathing, frantic and ragged, was now accompanied by a small whine on each exhale.
“Such pretty noises, pretty boy,” Oda-rhine praised, and Eno pressed his face into his shoulder as hard as he could.
“May I cry, sir?” Eno asked quietly, voice cracking halfway through.
Oda-rhine laughed, and yanked Eno’s head to the side so he could press his lips to Eno’s ear, blood smearing. “Yesss, pretty boy, cry for me.”
Eno hiccupped and let out a high sob, and Oda-rhine hummed pleasantly. “So good for me, good boy.”
Then Eno was roughly shoved back, falling into Mika’s lap, who stared down at Eno with wide, terrified eyes. Eno wanted to comfort him, reassure him that it wasn’t all that bad, but ended up reaching for Mika’s hands. He would comfort him later. Tell him he was playing it up for their owner. But right then, he was the one who needed Mika’s comfort, needed him to ground him, pin him against the sofa while Oda-rhine was hurting him in such a strange and frightening way. Was it the strangeness that made it frightening? Or was it the smile he gave them, blood glistening on his lips and chin?
Eno’s shirt was shoved up to his chest, and Oda-rhine bent down, breath hot and ghosting over the skin of Eno’s stomach. He broke out in goosebumps, squirming (so grateful that he was allowed to squirm, so grateful that his owners liked it when he did). “I know, I know, I’m being so mean to you,” Oda-rhine said, his voice still lilting playfully, almost smugly. “Arkanan’s probably going to be mad at me for marking you up like this for no reason. But you’re just so fun, and I’ve got a real need to bite something.”
Eno shrieked, breathing coming out positively ruined, and his upper body jerked up, arms mercifully pinned beneath Mika’s body weight. Eno wasn’t sure what he would’ve done with them if Mika hadn’t been anchoring him. Pain bloomed across his stomach, his skin tight and sensitive as all of his instincts screamed “no no no!” at the location of the pain. He sobbed. He didn’t understand why that bite was so much worse than the ones on his arm or shoulder—comparatively, Oda-rhine hadn’t bit down nearly as hard.
Oda-rhine’s hands were on Eno’s thighs, keeping his legs down, keeping him from kicking, and Eno sobbed again as his shorts were undone and moved. He deeply hoped Oda-rhine wouldn’t bite where Eno was currently fearing. Fortunately, Oda-rhine passed over that area to sink his teeth into Eno’s thigh, and Eno whined, head turned to sob against Mika’s lap. Oda-rhine’s nails scratched deeply against his other leg, red marks raising but only the middle finger actually breaking the skin, a thin line of red unlike the freely-bleeding bites.
“Next time Arkanan trains you two, I should have him teach you how to beg,” Oda-rhine commented, sitting up and lifting Eno’s leg by the heel.
“P-please,” Eno hiccuped around his sobs, and Oda-rhine’s other hand cupped underneath Eno’s knee. “S-sir, ple-ease, I’m scared,” Eno tried, and Oda-rhine hummed contentedly, pressing his lips to Eno’s calf.
“There we go. That’s a good boy. You keep that up.”
“O-OH!” Eno yelped when Oda-rhine bit into his calf, “Oda-rhine, please! Please, I-I’m scared! Please, sh-sir, it hurts, it hurts,” he cried.
Oda-rhine giggled and pressed a bloody kiss to Eno’s knee, then thumbed thoughtfully over the back of his heel. He whined, high and loud and scared.
“Please, sir, not there, pl-please, I wo-won’t be able to walk, pl- hic- please, Oda-rhine, please, I-I’m trying, sir, I’m trying, I w-want to be g-good, and, and beg, how you w-want me to please please, sir, please, n-not there, please,” Eno babbled, stumbling over his sobs, trembles wracking his small body as Oda-rhine seemed to search for the best angle to bite him right on the achilles heel.
“Oda-rhine!” Mika shouted, loud (too loud, said Eno’s brain, except it wasn’t, it was what he’d been trained to do). “Y-you can b-bite me, sir,” Mika offered. “Please, sir, not—”
“Oh, Mika,” Oda-rhine crooned, sounding sympathetic. He cut off Mika’s words with a hand in his hair and a kiss, bloody and messy and rough. “Am I being too mean to your boy?”
Mika whined, frightened by the question. Eno wouldn’t know how to answer either, and Eno was the one who was supposed to have the answers, between the two of them. Oda-rhine, thankfully, didn’t seem to actually want a response, or at the very least didn’t wait for one.
“I guess I’ve played enough with you today, haven’t I, Eno?” Eno tried to catch his breath enough to speak, but kept sobbing, air choking halfway down his throat. “No more biting. Today. Mika, take him to the bathroom and clean him up, m’kay?” Oda-rhine laughed. “Wow, it is so nice to be able to tell someone else to do that. When I only had Antu, I had to do all the dumb cleanup.”
Oda-rhine stood unceremoniously, ruffled their hair, and sauntered off. Just like that, he was gone. The abruptness of it left both of them reeling, Eno still crying and Mika joining in. They shakily got off the couch, collapsed on the floor, and Eno wrapped Mika up in his arms. He knew he was bleeding on him, but he needed this, needed to be able to hug his husband and cry together.
They stumbled to the back of the apartment, to the bathroom that was, for all intents and purposes, theirs, and Eno got his bloodied clothing off. Eno got his crying down to only sniffling, and wiped at his eyes. The tears came off pinkish. There was so much blood everywhere. He sat heavily on the toilet seat.
Mika squeezed his hand. He looked up with a watery smile, and squeezed back.
“It wasn’t so bad,” Eno said, “It looks worse than it is.”
Mika nodded, but clearly didn’t believe him. “It’s nice that they let us beg,” he said softly, changing the subject. Eno’s ankle twitched at the thought.
“Thank you,” Eno whispered, reaching out and touching Mika’s arm, “Thank you.”
“I’m yours,” Mika said, quieter. “I’d do anything for you.”
Eno kissed him softly. He let himself be cleaned up by his beloved, and cleaned where Mika had gotten bloody in return. He also, very carefully, ran some cool water over Mika’s tender back.
Arkanan-rhine didn’t come over, that evening, which left them both feeling antsy. He was steadier than Oda-rhine. Predictable, and fair. Of course they worshipped Oda-rhine, of course he was one of two centerpoints of their whole lives, but Arkanan-rhine added a stability that just wasn’t present without him there.
It didn’t help that Oda-rhine forgot to chain them up that night. Arkanan-rhine would’ve never forgotten. Timidly, when the moon was high and they were hours past when they normally went to sleep, they finally crawled into bed and chained themselves up, working together to strap on the cuffs and link themselves to the headboard.

Hello again, can I request a Bungou Stray Dogs crossover? With Odasaku became an escort and have a mission in Yokohama? Thank you!
Admin Notes: So we do in fact have a BSDcrossover, but Odasaku is not in it! GASP! Odasaku is not in it?! Well thatjust won’t do! -Admin Hirahara
“Escort Oda, your mission is as follows: track down the deceased ones in Yokohama and give them a proper send off.” Rokkaku explained to his newest escort, a man named Sakunosuke Oda. This particular man was quite strange. His arrival at the manor was very sudden - Saitou was the one who brought him, apparently - and despite his full willingness to be an escort, he refused to carry a weapon. Because of this reluctance, Rokkaku hadn’t sent him out much to the human world. However, this was rather pressing, and it was best that Oda get the experience that he needed so he could be prepared for future missions. “I’d like you to take Saeki with you, as well,” Rokkaku added. “There are multiple deceased ones, and if any give you trouble, then at least you have back up. He’s already been briefed, so once you find him, the two of you can head out.”
“Yes sir,” Oda saluted the captain before exiting the office. Saeki was actually waiting outside for him, what good timing.
“Hello,” Saeki gave one of his usual smiles. “You ready to go to the human world?” Oda nodded, adjusting his escort hat. Human world… He couldn’t remember much of it. A large bay, a ferris wheel, tall buildings, strange people… Not much besides that. Getting there, however, turned out to be an easy and fast trip. As it turned out, humans paid them absolutely no mind at all. Almost like they couldn’t see them right away, or the escorts just blended perfectly with the background. “Let’s split up for now. Yokohama is a very big area.” Oda felt that the name sounded familiar, but couldn’t really put a finger on it. He agreed with Saeki, however, that splitting up was a good plan of action.
“We’re just here to talk to those deceased ones, right?” Oda wanted to confirm. Saeki’s nod was only half reassuring - the delay was a bit troubling. He understood. Sometimes deceased ones who weren’t ready to accept that they needed to move on would try and fight back. Or so he was told. And without a weapon, Oda was pretty much an easy target. “Alright, I get the idea.”
“If you need help… well,” from Saeki’s cape, he handed Oda a revolver. “You don’t have to shoot the deceased one if you don’t want to, but at least I’ll hear you if you fire.” Oda thanked his partner for the weapon, knowing full well he had no plans of using it. The mission is to find five deceased ones that are hanging around here… Sounded easy enough. Deceased ones must be like them - humans don’t pay them much mind.
Yokohama was ridiculously huge - just like the underworld capital. And there were all sorts of things to see. The coast, where Oda caught a glance at a short man wearing a hat and a man in a long coat arguing. The shopping buildings, where he saw a high school girl dragging around who he thought was her brother around. He even passed a building with a sign reading Busou Tanteisha where a white haired man was leading around a girl in a kimono. But all and all, Oda just couldn’t seem to find any trace of these so called ‘deceased ones’. Were they really here? Or perhaps they moved on.
After feeling like he walked around the city twice, Oda had to take a break. This was getting a little silly. Five people in a place like this… it was just too populated. Mindlessly wandering around, Oda soon found himself standing at the front door of a very quiet bar. “Hm…” He was on the job, so it wasn’t like he could take this leisure. But he also wanted a break, and this place felt welcoming. With his indecision aside, he stepped into the bar. Despite the door opening, the bar tender didn’t seem to give him any mind. Maybe because he was from the underworld? Even when he sat at the bar counter, no one said anything to him.
“Looks like I can’t drink even if I wanted to…” Oda gave a small sigh. This dimly lit bar was pretty atmospheric, at least. It had a rustic feel that seemed to make it a place outside of time. “How strange,” he spoke to himself. “I feel like I’ve been here before.” But the feeling passed just as easily. After all, he was an escort. He stayed for about thirty minutes before he decided this place was starting to suffocate him, and he headed out just as some man with glasses in a brown suit walked in.
Oda wandered around until he wasn’t even sure he was in the main area of Yokohama anymore. After all, this road he was on looked way less busy. Not to mention, the stores and such seemed to die down behind him. In fact, before Oda even realized it, he seemed to have walked himself to some strange tilted building with a sign out front. “Freedom: Western style food and curry”. Judging by it’s looks, though, this place had gone out of business. On a normal day, the escort would just ignore a building like this and keep looking, but his feet was doing most of the thinking for him. He found himself going up the stairs to the second floor without even really wanting to.
I guess this is what it means to leave no stone unturned… Oda sighed, pushing open the main door. To his surprise, however, as he did, he was greeted by the gaze of a very young boy - one of his teeth missing. “Uh, hello?” Oda thought to ask. There was no way this boy saw this escort, right? But no, there was recognition in the boy’s face. He can see me, so… could he be…? Before Oda was able to ask, the boy took off and ducked into one of the rooms.
“Hey!” Oda hurried after him, stopping at the door the boy had just closed. “Don’t run,” he huffed, going for the doorknob. He was almost sure of it, that kid must have been one of the deceased ones. “I’m coming in.” This feels… nostalgic… Oda shook the thought out of his head and pushed the door open. “…Oh.” It appeared as though there were three other children in here along with the first boy, all sitting on the couch. They all seemed to look up at Oda when he came in. Are they all deceased ones? Could this be who he was supposed to find? “Uh, so listen,” Oda started, walking towards them.
But, he didn’t even make it two steps when suddenly, a fifth child jumped out at him from one of the bunk beds that lined the wall. “Now we’ve got you!” Exclaimed the child. His war cry was followed by the other four children grabbing onto Oda’s limbs. While they were heavy and the escort did not have time for this, he also felt that they weren’t really trying to hurt him. It was almost like… playing?
While struggling to get the children off him, Oda accidentally fired the gun Saeki gave him. Luckily, it didn’t hit anyone, but all the children immediately let go of the escort. “Sorry, sorry.” Oda quickly put the gun down. I knew I didn’t want a weapon. “That must have really startled you, huh.” He reached over to pat one of the kids on the head, but suddenly stopped when he saw the boy flinch.
“W-we’re very sorry!” the boy immediately yelled. “We didn’t mean to make you angry!”
“Yeah, we were just playing,” another one of the children chimed in. “Just like old times.”
“Sorry?” Oda frowned, kneeling down before the kids. He didn’t quite understand what they were talking about.
“Did we surprise you, Odasaku?” a girl in a pink dress asked sheepishly. Odasaku? Where had the escort heard that before? “We just wanted to catch you off guard. We didn’t mean for you to get scared and fire at us.”
“Yeah, it’s just that we waited a long time to see you again, so we all got excited,” another one of the children added. Oda couldn’t be more confused. He had never seen this children before, not since he became an escort. And he certainly couldn’t remember having met them before hand. Who were they? And who was this “Odasaku” they kept talking about?
“I think you made a mistake,” Oda sighed, standing up. “I’m from the Special Branch of the Underworld Escorts, Escort Oda.” The response he gave must have been what the children wanted to hear, though, because they all suddenly seemed really excited.
“I see!” The first boy suddenly exclaimed. “Hey, that’s pretty good. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds like you’re on the side that saves people at last!”
“The what…?” Oda couldn’t understand any of the things these kids were telling him. “I don’t really understand.”
“It’s okay, we’re just glad you seem happy, Odasaku,” the boy with goggles on his head grinned. “We didn’t want to go anywhere until we were sure that you were doing okay. I mean, without us, you would be a mess, right?” In the distance, Oda could hear the sound of someone running. Was it Saeki? He thought he heard his name being called.
“Oh man, I think time’s up!” the girl in the dress declared. “We’ll see you around, okay Odasaku?” Oda still wasn’t quite following what they were saying, but he suddenly had a lot more questions. How do you know me? Why were you waiting for me? Who are you? Who was I? But his voice, like the children before him, slowly disappeared into thin air.
By the time Saeki was at the room, Oda was just standing there, facing the window, alone. His gun was still on the ground, but he was just blankly staring out the window. “Oda?” Saeki asked, a bit concerned. “What’s wrong? Did you find the deceased ones?”
“I’m not quite sure…” Oda sighed. “But I think they’re gone now.” With a turn, he adjusted his hat once more, picking up the gun and handing it back to Saeki. “Let’s go back and report this to Mr. Rokkaku.”

Pokemon AU Dazatsu? gym leader ADA, Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua/Skull/etc Port Mafia? w/ starting trainer/legendary magnet Atsushi? OdaAngo as Atsushi's parents or Joy/Jenny?
Anon, how the hell did you know Pokemon is my big weakness?
I went with Johto solely because I liked the gym line up way better than everything else tbh. There was so much to fit in this AU (and I wrote a lot for it) but it was getting too long, so I just focused on dazatsu
(Note: Dazai is pretty much a prodigy, being a gym leader at 18, while Atsushi is a late bloomer, as he only started travelling at 16)
It takes a little while for Atsushi to get to the last gym, where Dazai is the dragon type leader. More because he wanted to explore and see the new cities and Pokemon with his own eyes.
He builds a reputation for himself without even realizing: Atsushi is very passionate and considerate, and with all the exploring, he meets lots of people and always helps them out. He also battles Team Rocket (and fucks them up) like a billion times. He’s Known
Anyways, when he comes up to Dazai, he already knows about Atsushi and is curious to find out who’s this legendary trainer that supposedly saw Suicune before
Atsushi loses the first battle. But instead of getting discouraged, he’s even more pumped up. Dazai often sees Atsushi training outside, and he watches with interest.
Curiosity finally getting the best of him, Dazai approaches Atsushi one day to ask why he was smiling the moment he lost to Dazai
Atsushi explains that Dazai won fair and square, and that it’s always amazing to see how strong other trainers are; the fact that he gets to battle trainers like Dazai is special to him.
“If I win against you, then it’s because I’ve grown since I got here. And I look forward to that.”
Dazai has never met someone with that kind of outlook on life before and he’s fascinated. He understands now why Atsushi has a trail of good stories following him, why everyone’s talking about him
From then on, Dazai comes along whenever Atsushi is training. Usually, trainers wouldn’t like that, since it reveals their strategies and common moves, but Atsushi says he doesn’t mind the company, so it’s okay.
(Atsushi was used to having both Oda and Ango back home, so the solitude is a little jarring, which is part of why he often surrounds himself with people.)
Dazai usually just plays with Atsushi’s pokemon (the ones that aren’t busy training with Atsushi, that is). He also often ends up taking naps while watching Atsushi, so Atsushi has started bringing a picnic blanket for Dazai to sleep on.
He doesn’t let it show, but Dazai admires Atsushi a lot, even if they’ve only known each other for a week and a half.
When they finally battle again, it’s such an unique experience: the rush of exhilaration and genuine joy is something Dazai hasn’t felt in so long–or ever, really. He’s having so much fun, he’s actually giving it his all (because Atsushi deserves nothing less than his best), and they’re both laughing.
When Dazai loses, his cheeks hurt from smiling. His heart is beating so loudly; someone actually beat him, and he finally found the spark he’s been looking for for so long.
And when he looks at Atsushi, who’s cheering with his pokemon, cheeks flushed and just as happy looking as Dazai himself feels, Dazai decides that’s the most beautiful thing he’s seen in his life
Now in addition to getting calls from Ango and Oda, Atsushi also gets them from Dazai too, who promises to cheer Atsushi on when he faces the Elite Four.
After Atsushi is all done (and now the champion of Johto/Kanto), he comes back to Blackthorn City to visit Dazai. He says he wanted to tell Dazai in person that he has no intention of keeping the position of champion, and he’s going home for now before deciding what to do next
Dazai laughs because of course Atsushi would spend the last year training to beat the Elite Four but then reject the champion role
Dazai hugs Atsushi and quietly asks him to allow him to come along, wherever Atsushi goes from now on
Atsushi is shocked, because what about the gym? But Fukuzawa, who has been the previous gym leader, agreed to take Dazai’s place if he decided to leave
After hearing that, Atsushi shrugs, because why not.
(After Atsushi tells Dazai where he’s from, Dazai spends the rest of the trip smiling the whole time. When Atsushi asks about it, he says “he’s coming home too”)
(The truth is that both Ango and Oda knew Dazai way back when, around the time he was in Team Rocket. After leaving the criminal organization, and before he set out on his journey, Oda told him to “come back when he found what he was looking for”)
(Yes, Dazai is very shocked to find out they’re Atsushi’s adoptive parents–more surprised about that than the fact that they’re now married, in fact)
Anon I’m so sorry I didn’t elaborate more on the backstories, the Port Mafia and Odango. Like I said, this got sooooo long. If you’d like to know more about this AU, absolutely hit me up

Selene Crawford: The Lady, The Promise, The Kiss
Warning: Cursing and a bit mild sexual scene
Nobunaga walked with a purpose to his meeting with Kincaid. When he set the meeting late night the day before, Kincaid was reluctant until he heard about the shooting. It was then that he told Nobunaga to bring all of his men as soon as possible to the docks. Approaching the entrance he met with Hideyoshi, Mitsurani and Mitsuhide.
“Where is Kincaid?”
“We just arrived a couple of minutes ago. Ever since we here, I got the feeling that we are being watched.” said Hideyoshi taking a look around.
“My, always late for the party Hideyoshi. This place is really kind of unique, considering what it's real purpose is.” Mitsuhides comment just earned a frown of disapproval but nothing else. He on the other hand was excited, finally the forbidden den was opened for him to explore and dig it's secrets. Too bad she wasn't here to see her face. An yet, he wouldn't want her to get hurt. The girl felt like a kindred spirit. But at the same time he also wanted to protect her. It was a shame that she choose the dragon instead of him. Chasing her away from his mind he started walking when little red dots appeared from nowhere next to him.
“I thought we were allowed in there? Are we missing something?” putting his hands up Mitsuhide turned around looking for the snipers. “A Secret handshake or,...”
“Ah this is why you were banned from here young Akechi. That tongue of yours and your eyes of a sly fox. No wonder they don't want you here. You should be humble and grateful, after all you finally got in, isn't it?” the old voice echoed thru the space with a hint of sneer and almost regret.
“Thanks for coming Kincaid.” Nobunaga approached the old man with caution extending his hand to salute him.
“Ah, Oda is nice to see you here. I see you brought everyone. Follow me they are w” he gave a look at Mitsuhide still with his hands up. “Come and if any warning is good, don't stray from the path we are walking, or you won't come out of this place ever again.”
“I guess that's for you Mitsuhide.” said Hideyoshi passing him by while following Kincaid.
The path was thru the whole fish market on the docks, Mitsurani kindly smiled to everyone and at some point a  Russian blue cat tag along. She meow sweetly and kept following Mitsurani. Meanwhile, Hideyoshi behaved like a gentleman with the ladies and the women. Nobunaga just observed the whole scene played out in silence. Mitsuhide took in into the place, from time to time counting the people who we ready to jump into them. Yes, this was getting amusing, interesting and maybe...dangerous. They kept walking for another half an hour until Nobunaga stopped. Kincaid turned around raising an eyebrow.
“Something wrong Lad?.”
“We been walking around the place for 30 minutes now, what's this?...”
“Ah, the Devil, The Brains, The Snake and the gentleman or perhaps mother hen? But some people are missing, I said bring everyone didn't I? Where is the Dragon? And the Do...”
“He is out of the equation...” Nobunaga cut it, only to be interrupted again.
“For now, I don't like to waste my time with this. That girl is such a troublesome thing. First the wedding now this. Where is she anyway?”
everyone turned to the right to see an old tall man walking to them. He seemed to be on his fifties with an old classic black with fine white stripes suit, leather shoes, a cane with the head of a Viper. Behind him Shingen and company were also walking.
“Great of you to join us. Shingen here is involved, so you will have to make a truce and come with us.” another old man appeared in front of them.
“And if we don't agree?” asked Nobunaga tentatively.
“Ah you live up to your reputation, Devil. Selene told me you were wise for your age so asking dumb questions is not wise. She has a lot of faith in you, even you Akechi.” the man answered with a sarcastic chuckle. “So you left her with the Dragon aren't you?” the old man continued to walk toward Nobunaga and stopped in from of him.
“It was the best choice, Masamune will take good care of her.” said Hideyoshi.
All the old men started laughing at once. Shingen's group and Nobunaga's exchange a confused look to each other. Only Kenshin was also laughing. After calming himself he said. “ The moment he gets outnumbered is over. That man does not do well on cases where he needs to protect people I believe the girl is still in danger.”
“Wrong, God of War, I'm surprised you haven't found out. That girl is such a stubborn thing sometimes. We didn't raise a fairy tale princess if that what you think. If the bad comes to worse she will be the perfect killing machine, but we made sure she never went down that path if she and the Dragon are truly soulmates as that old witch said they could wipe anything that dares to oppose them. Come, we need to talk.”
“You are still blabbing all those things Ian, that old woman died years ago. Stop spitting old nonsense.” Said the Old suit guy.
“Oh, piss off Lancelot, you know those where her last words, and so far Selene always, loved to hear her. I hope he takes good care of her. Because no one wants to see her pissed off like that time uh Kincaid? Come its getting cold.”
Nobunaga and Shingen started walking and their men followed.
Selene finally woke up sleeping next to Masamune. She slowly and calmly went out of the bed and washed her teeth and went to the  bag that was left on the floor of the room. Revising the things Hideyoshi packed were underwear a pair of sweat pants and a couple of t shirts. She was only wearing Masamune's shirt and felt her cheeks growing hot from embarrassment. Once she put on a sports bra, panties and the sweat pants, Selene started to explore the kitchen. The clock on the wall indicated that it was 3 am. She started to investigate the freezer when she felt his presence behind her. Putting an arm to block  her from leaving, Masamune rest his chin on her head and ask.
“Hungry?”
“Yeah, I was looking to make a simple sandwich. You?” she didn't move, her heart skipped a beat when he got close to her.
“I want a princess, rare,” both chuckled and Selene started taking things from the fridge.“Too bad there is none around here.”
Masamune took a bottle of water and opened it. Giving a long sip on the bottle. He stood next to Selene and said. “Meh, I spotting one in front of me right now.”  finishing with a wolfish smile.
“This princess stuff is getting old. First of all I'm not pretty, second will you stop...” any other reply died on her lips at the moment Masamune shut her up with kiss.
Selene closed her eyes and put her hands on his shoulders. Gripping the his shirt when her knees started to getting weak. Masamune assaulted her lips with a sweet yet firm demand. His tongue teasing her until Selene gave up and open her mouth with a soft moan. While one hand hold the base of her nape the other hand went down her shirt caressing her ribs and her stomach sending shivers, turning to the left he pin her between him and the counter. Lowering  his hands to each tight, Masamune lift her sitting her on the counter without stopping his assault. Masamune wasn't letting her think just feel, letting her know how much he wanted her. He didn't care about the damn scar, or anything only her. Reluctantly, he broke the kiss and touch her forehead with his. Both, were panting agitated trying to catch their breathing. Still Holding her by the thighs he took her to the sofa. He took a sit in the middle of the sofa and let her sit stranded on his lap. She now hugged him and rest her face on his chest. Hearing his heart beating as fast as hers Selene closed her eyes and let him caress her back.
After a couple of minutes, Selene  retire from his chest face him and spoke softly with a soft tremble in her voice. Her face was flushed red and her eyes like two shinning emeralds while her lips were swollen from the kiss.
“I'm not worthy of you...”
“It's me who is not worthy and yet I can't stop thinking about you. “
He saw her eyes opening wide and put her mouth on a fine line. “This is not a competition you know?. Who are thou worthy of who?” he couldn't help it and started laughing. “Lass, really? Now we got Shakespeare? I kissed you because it was the only way to let you know that I want you.  I want to know you better also, Selene. I like what I see, and I don't care if you are even a demon I want you ok?” the look of desire on his eyes sent a shiver to Selene.
The doubts were still there in her eyes he could see them. But also he saw something else. Everyone had a past, he knew that very well. But which past she had and how bad was only time will tell and her will tell.
“So you don't mind take things slow?” he hesitation was understandable.
“No kitten, with you I don't.” he looked her directly at the eyes.
Slowly Selene raised her hands to cup his cheeks and kiss him softly on the lips. “OK then can we go back to my sandwich? I'm starving.” with a smile Selene stood and offered her hand to Masamune.
“Right, lets get some food on that stomach.” he stood up kissed the back of Selene's hand and said.
“ I don't make promises but on this case I want to make an exception. I promised I will make sure you are always safe, no matter the situation.” Masamune looked intensely and serious.
Selene felt her heart pounding furiously on her chest, with a smile she squeezed his hand and said  “I want to make a promise to you too, Masamune Date, I will also protect you, no matter the situation, you are now mine to keep and cherish until the end. No matter what happens.”
“Hey, that sounded cooler than mine,” he frowned at her confused.
Giggling Selene replied “Common, is a promise, besides I'm cooler than you.” she just winked at him while going back to the kitchen.
“As if.” Masamune followed her into the kitchen intended to keep making her smile as long as he lived.

Stripes of Auburn, Eye of Sapphire
17. Mai
Read on Ao3 | Read on FFN |  Masterlist
Summary: “My Lord, a report! We were misled!” Presumably a Maeda scout—judging by the colors of his armor—reaches Nobunaga’s mare, looking pale and positively frightened, “This wasn’t a skirmish between the territories! A cavalry armed in red has been spotted at the front lines!”
The man falters for a heartbeat, seeming like struggling to deliver the grimmest news of his entire life, barely able to meet his Lord’s eyes. “It’s… it’s Takeda’s Akazonae!”
Spoiler alert! - Shingen's route
Mai
“Oomph—! Ouch!”
Twenty pounds of a very eager tiger landing on her chest prompt her awake, making her wince and grumble in some pain. The discomfort doesn’t last for long, as Shogetsu proceeds to brush his wet nose across her cheek, licking the side of her face he can reach as if to make up for his rough treatment. What a way to wake up, huh.
“Good morning to you too, big boy…” Her groans turn into giggles when the cub’s whiskers tickle her neck, squirming involuntarily and making a mess out of her already disheveled futon. “Ahahaha! Alright, alright, Shogetsu. I think I know what you want,”
It’s been three days since the tiger started making a habit of visiting her room, whether at night to curl up at the feet of her futon or to be the first to bid her good morning; hence why the second time she’d opted out to place a bowl of water next to her balcony window. She’d have to ask Masamune what he’s feeding the boy with eventually, if he keeps intending to stick to her company, although Mai hasn’t seen even a glimpse of Shogetsu’s owner since their last ‘date’ of some sorts.
The thought makes her snort in a mix of disbelief and longing. I had a date with Masamune Date. Mom would be cackling and squealing like a fangirl at that. Truthfully, it’s just a silly thought she indulges herself with—and she’s fully aware he doesn’t even know what a date is for the matter—but regardless, she’d be lying if she isn’t looking forward to having another.
That, and seeing him again, that is.
Subsequently to their return from the north, her writing and reading lessons with Mitsunari and Ieyasu had come to a halt due to their busy schedule, the former with rearranging and assigning the castle defenses, and Ieyasu with his late investigation of Shingen and Kenshin’s rumors. Masamune got caught up in work as well, leaving her to spend her days tending on her chatelaine duties and the company of an unruly tiger while studying.
“You want… a belly rub! Raaaah!” Feigning a fearsome display of claws, Mai pounces on the cub and attacks his soft belly with rubs and tickles. Shogetsu coos and paws at her quick hands, more than delighted with finally getting her utmost attention.
They’re so into it she almost misses the knocking on her door. “Just a second!” Throwing on another layer of clothing for modesty and hastily tying her hair, she then gives the signal for the visitor to come inside. Her brows quirk in surprise, although isn’t particularly displeased at the newcomer, “Oh, Mitsuhide, it’s you. Hello.”
Despite being pristinely dressed as usual, his face can’t hide some wear and tear on it, leading her to assume he didn’t have any beauty sleep. “I see you’re with company already. Why am I not surprised?” He smirks after nodding in greeting.
“You mean Shogetsu? It’s alright, we’re just having a tickle fight.” Throwing a blue strip of cloth for the little tiger to focus and play with, Mai prompts herself to her feet and shakes the balcony windows open.
Mitsuhide snickers amusedly. “It’s clear you have an affinity to creatures like them. Admittedly, you do look pretty much like a tigress yourself,” He doesn’t follow her to the veranda, though, shooting her a meaningful look behind those appealing long lashes of his. “It shouldn’t be baffling if your kind seems to look out for you…”
The jab is subtle, yet regardless she catches up to it, her breath hitching. This isn’t about Shogetsu. “W-what do you mean?” She speaks across her shoulder, hoping he can’t see how pale and terrified she goes.
“Oh, I believe you know that, Princess…” Her eyes blow wide, a cold shiver of fear running down her spine. A heartbeat goes, then two, before she gathers her wits to turn around and properly face the slyest of warlords among the Oda. “If anything, the look in your pretty face just confirmed so. I’m afraid you’re painfully easy to read,”
Mitsuhide feigns a mortified face, but the sharp gleam crossing his golden gaze all but gives away the enjoyment he seems to find in prodding people.
Mai bites her lower lip hard enough to draw blood, a hand raking through her hair. She should have known better than to pretend around such a dangerous schemer like Mitsuhide, or even hiding from him. They’ve met in the middle of the street after all, it’s all too easy to assume someone may have spotted them talking and words caught up to him.
How screwed up I am, now? He’s come to take me to the dungeons, isn’t it?
“I… then I’m sure you already know it’s not what it looked like.” The best she can do is apply some reasoning in her defense, aware that persuasion is hardly a good approach as of then. Her hands begin to tremble, nails digging painfully in her palms, “You’ve got to believe me, Mitsuhide, he followed me and—“
Mitsuhide seems to notice something else in her face, then, judging by how the obvious amusement suddenly disappears from his, bringing a hand before her so to ask for silence. “Why, there’s no need for you to explain yourself, Mai.”
Soon, it becomes a silent battle of glances; from her, to figure out her fate, and Mitsuhide, appearing to be trying to read her thoughts. “How can you say that?” Mai says, near baffled, “We just brought a daimyo to custody after just exchanging some letters with the enemy. And you’ve seen me talking to one of them, face to face. It’s pretty clear to me I’m in big trouble,”
A thin silver eyebrow quirk up as if pondering on it, “That is a solid reasoning,” He appears inclined to agree, nodding thoughtfully, “Regardless, I still consider your involvement as hardly relevant in the current moment. The matter is being addressed properly, so you have nothing to fear,” His thin lips spread wide in a mischievous smile, “… yet.”
“That is… not reassuring at all…” She blinks in disbelief, tension still coiling deep in her gut, “So why are you here, then?”
The visitor hides his hands into the sleeves of his white kimono, “Firstly, to inform Lord Nobunaga is requesting your presence at the audience chambers. And secondly, to ask you a question,” For the first time in their interaction, Mitsuhide finally turns serious, “Does this man you’ve encountered has introduced himself as the Tiger of Kai, Shingen Takeda?”
“Um, he…” She stammers for a moment, revisiting her talk with the handsome man in her mind for the tenth time, coming to a sudden realization. “Actually… no, he didn’t.”
“You’re saying you assumed him to be Takeda?” At his skeptical look, she finally understands where he’s going.
But no, that can’t be right. “Yeah, and still believe it was him but, well… he didn’t outright confirm that to my face, if that’s what you’re asking.”
“I see. Then why are you so concerned, I wonder?” At his nonchalant shrug, Mai can’t possibly tell whether he’s trying to be reassuring or not, “For all it takes you might have seen a ghost or a body double,”
She turns pensive at the remark. As much as she can get people’s skepticism towards someone apparently believed to be dead, there are far too many rumors going about for somebody as Mitsuhide to just turn a blind eye on. While he may be in the right for her irrelevancy on the matter—Shingen could positively be miles away from Azuchi by now, and their meeting is hardly of any use to the Oda—and that everyone’s currently working to find the truth, it all leads her to presume one thing.
“You don’t believe he’s alive, right?”
Leaning forward and getting to her eye level, he lands a hand on her shoulder, “Only one thing is for certain, Princess, and that is, no one comes back from the dead.” A quite charming smirk crosses Mitsuhide’s face, and she honestly doesn’t know what to think of it.
Or rather, she feels more lost and confused than before. For all intents and purposes, the man doesn’t truly look like the culprit behind the Honno-ji incident and remains to be one of—if not the only—Nobunaga’s most trustworthy warlords around. Yet still, what is there with Mitsuhide Akechi? What makes him so reliable to the Oda forces?
Does she even want to know?
Straightening up, his intense golden gaze is quite a lot to bare, “Regardless, I withhold my final judgment for now,” With remarkable gallantry, he outstretches an arm to her, “Now, shall we? The lords are awaiting us,”
The meeting is already settled by the time they arrive, having walking without much as for a bare casual conversation to the audience chambers. To Mai’s surprise and partial worry, there’s no sign of Masamune or Ieyasu around, and no one in the room looks like they’re expecting them anytime soon.
Once the two of them take a seat, Mitsunari begins with his report.
“More skirmishes have arisen in Shinano, making it the third episode in less than a month. I’m afraid the situation is escalating to the threat of a full revolt on the province,” The strategist hands a stack of papers to Nobunaga, presumably to certify his statements, “We must act soon, or else we won’t be able to contain this much further,”
Nobunaga listens intently before turning to his vassal. “Have you got any word from Lady Yoshiko, Hideyoshi?”
He nods, but his face remains stern. “My wife is safe for now, in Owari,” The small addition prompts Mai’s attention, growing curious. Didn’t know Hideyoshi had a wife. Wow, I know next to nothing about these guys, aren’t I? “She’s let me know we can call upon the Maeda for assistance.”
“Very well, then.” Nobunaga fixes a look on Mitsuhide afterwards, appearing to be sharing something unbeknownst to the rest of them, but it doesn’t take much before he comes to a decision. “I tire of this pointless rebellion. I shall go and put an end to these skirmishes myself,” He declares, stopping his vassal the very moment he readies to, most likely, voice his concerns. “Hideyoshi, you may gather your troops and go with me. And Mitsunari, write Toshiie and request him to prepare his forces as well. We are traveling shortly.”
Just then, that fearsome crimson gaze lands on Mai, and it takes a lot for her not to flinch—it’s a look that definitely doesn’t bode well for her, as far as she’s come to know the Lord of Azuchi. Please, let it be good. I’ll do anything, just—
“I’d need my lucky token to bring me good fortune. Pack up, Princess. I’m taking you with me.”
How much has my lifespan been shortened by now? This is a nightmare.
Shaken to the core, rattled, and fighting her shock, she clings to Nobunaga for dear life as he rides into battle. If she once thought riding with Masamune was a pain, Mai can clearly see how sorely wrong she was right then.
“Why did you even bring me here!?” She doesn’t even have a single piece of armor on her, and he better not bring up the lucky charm repetitive tape, or else.
“I thought a fireball like you would enjoy a good battle,” Nobunaga says matter-of-factly.
“You were so wrong! This is horrible!” Every whizzing arrow passing by seems to be about to pierce her; every angry roar and cry of pain echoing in her ears. “I told you I hate war!”
“What you hate or like is of no matter. You are mine, my lucky charm, and I will bring you where I like.” His statements sound just as defiant and elated as the look on his face—crimson eyes blazing, a toothy, wicked grin all over.
And if we were in the present, I’m pretty sure I could bring you to court for that!
Mai certainly wishes she could. She’d much rather be there than in the middle of that killing field. “Oh gods, look out!”
A soldier darts his horse before them as an enemy spear impales his shoulder. “Agh! L-Lord Nobunaga, please, get back!”
“I do not take commands.” Her whole body shakes as Nobunaga wheels his steed and brutally cuts down the spearman. Mai’s pretty sure she screamed at that. “You there! Fight the pain and stay on your horse or you’ll die. Now retreat back to camp and have that wound taken care of.”
“Yes my Lord. As soon as the blood is stanched I will be back at your side!” Blood oozes through his fingers as he clutches his wound, the pale-faced soldier riding in the direction of camp.
They’re just going to patch him up and send him back out? “What could be possibly worth this?”
She wasn’t expecting to get a response, and yet. “Indeed. This is too much effort for a minor conflict in what should be an uncontested province…”
“What do you mean? This isn’t how this was supposed to go?”
It’s then when a messenger comes trotting through the front lines, shouting in a panic at Nobunaga. “My Lord, a report!
Nobunaga stays very still, gaze flickering with many emotions Mai can’t truly figure out what is what—surprise, expectation, unadulterated ire, and a glimmer of relief, even.
“… There you are, Shingen.” His acknowledgment comes with a growl, and she can’t help glancing warily at the soldiers who’d heard the message, meeting slack-jawed expressions all around. “We’re going after him.”
Oh, no. Oh, damn—whoa!
All in a sudden, Nobunaga kicks his horse, flying toward the front lines of the battle, his pacing eager and more reckless than what she got sort of used to with Masamune’s wild riding. Hundreds of men move across the field on both sides in a blur of reds, blacks and whites, but once her eyes catch a glimpse of a particular person, there’s no way she can tear her gaze away from them.
“Give the signal! Let the world know!”
At the sight, there’s no doubt he really has earned the name of a tiger, his presence even more fierce and grandiose than the former times she’s met him, roaring with a force that could make any lesser man shake their very soul.
“The Takeda forces have returned!”
The aforementioned Akazonae army, clad head to toe in crimson red armor, gives a unified cry that makes the very ground tremble. Riding at their head on an ebony horse, wielding a massive greatsword, is the tall flirt from Azuchi, and the most handsome man she’s ever seen in her life.
“It turns out the rumors were true. The Tiger of Kai lives,” An amused Nobunaga seems to talk more to himself than to her.
His mumbles sound far away from her, feeling all but drawn to Shingen’s figure, somewhat partially doubting her vision. Or that is until his silver-grey eyes meet hers across the battlefield, tongue shaking out to water his lips and smiling delightfully.
Hello? We’re in the middle of a bloodbath! What is he doing?
It’s impossible not to recognize that narrow-eyed, flirtatious look—there’s magic there, something very difficult to attribute to another person but him. It feels as if he’s teasingly dangling the keys to her memories on his fingers, whispering ‘Did you miss me?’
“Mmh, smoke from Honno-ji and a woman alone at night. Perhaps you’re a ghost? Though you’re certainly the most beautiful ghost I’ve ever seen.”
“And you’re not a ghost. Not now that I see you in the daylight, that is clear.”
“I see you miss me already? Don’t worry, I do too. I’m trusting you to take good care of my heart in the meantime… Princess,”
While she couldn’t possibly have forgotten him, it’s also obvious Shingen remembered her the entire time—or has done his homework quite too well. He even predicted they’d meet up a third time. Or did he somehow know…?
“Don’t get distracted or you’ll lose your balance. Now hold on,” Nobunaga returns to a state of ruthless and cold detachment. He glances over his visibly shaken army and shouts in a voice of command, “Keep in formation! We still outnumber them. Do not cower before a ghost. We’ll send Takeda back to hell!”
His words rally the soldiers, and they face the Takeda forces fearlessly once more. The spirit of an entire army shifting at the words of one person; that’s a lot of power to hold.
The mention of a ghost makes her ponder; Sasuke said Shingen being alive was one of the differences in their timeline—deeming it an alternate one, in which history already changed its course—but he didn’t precisely go into details. Even Mitsuhide, within his odd ways, practically confirmed that to the world everyone considered him dead. So, how did he ‘die’? And why did he appear just then, apparently years later?
“Nobunaga, why did you think Shingen was dead?” As far as from what recalls from the history books, Shingen died before him in her timeline, but that’s about all she knows.
Making it brief due to the current circumstances, Nobunaga tells her of his war with the Takeda clan and how in the midst of a battle, they’d heard Shingen succumbed to illness. His army fell apart, alongside with all the gains they’d made in battle, and their clan was destroyed by the Oda.
“… But he was alive this whole time and he was the one stirring up tension in your territories?”
“It appears so. Mitsuhide will know more of it. I suppose after he recovered, he took his time looking for the right moment to get his revenge.” Nobunaga says, “Shingen’s not the only ghost though. He’s come back with another. Look, Mai.”
She looks where Nobunaga points. In the sea of red, a white shadow blitzes through like a bolt of lightning; the man—if indeed he is one and not a force of nature—followed by a squad of his own. “You are the elite of the Uesugi forces! Don’t let the Akazonae show you up! Unleash your ferocity on the enemy!”
“Kenshin Uesugi, the Dragon of Echigo. He too was said to have died.” Despite the introduction, Mai finds him quite easier to recognize—he was with Shingen the night of the Honno-ji incident. “Not only is he still alive, but he also formed an alliance with his rival, of all people.”
Something about the intone of how he says that prompts her attention to Nobunaga. He doesn’t sound particularly surprised at this outcome.
Quirking a curious brow, she dares asking, “Did you know somehow any of them would be here?”
“Hideyoshi’s wife let out something odd in her last letter. And a report from Toshiie Maeda, one of my generals, got me inclined to believe this skirmish wasn’t just a simple commotion between the villagers. Something as big as this was brewing on,” Nobunaga admits with a thoughtful frown, “Shingen is a master of espionage. It was no accident that I got that information.”
The comment confuses her—so, if she’s getting it right, that means Shingen purposefully let Nobunaga know he’d be coming out of hiding? “But if you two are enemies, why would he let you get that info?”
“To draw me out, of course. Only in that way can they declare to the world they are once more ready for battle.” He says matter-of-factly, “That’s why they caused these minor conflicts in my territory, as well as probably rallying their former retainers like the daimyo you and Masamune dealt with: To chip away at my influence bit by bit.” He builds on his answer as he rides, directing his army all the while, “All that was left was to choose the perfect moment to rise from the abyss and show themselves in the light.”
In conclusion, Shingen’s goal has been to, most likely, stir trouble in Nobunaga’s territories and hope for the people to rebel against him, joining his cause instead. That’s an incredibly intricate plan, I’ve got to give him that. She can’t help glancing at Shingen ahead with sheer curiosity, her intuition telling her he’d been the sole architect of that scheme.
And suddenly so, she realizes his already herculean figure becomes taller and taller, dangerously approaching him. “You’re not honestly thinking about fighting the two of them directly!?” Ignoring the obvious disadvantages of two against one, Takeda and Uesugi are the commanders of the enemy forces.
But Nobunaga ignores her question, once more kicking his horse into a run. Feeling her balance unceremoniously ripped from her again, she flinches, squeezing him harder to find some purchase. Men fall to Nobunaga’s deadly blade and the trampling hooves of his horse, more weapons than Mai can even count flying towards the two of them. Either Shingen or Kenshin seems to notice Nobunaga and her approaching at first, but then again, almost everyone is on horseback.
… Or they had been, until then, when she hears a horrible scream—Kenshin barbarically cutting a soldier down before her eyes, alighting from his horse with paradoxical elegance. What is he doing? Doesn’t that put him at a disadvantage?
“This battle bores me.” She hears him saying flatly, “Here, I’m giving myself a handicap. Now, will someone put up a fight?”
Nobunaga watches Kenshin’s act of madness with amusement, “So, it’s true what they say about Kenshin’s lust for battle.”
More like he’s lusting for a sword in his chest! He’s putting himself at risk because he’s bored!?
“Shingen, your battles are dull and they take too long. I might just kill you for bringing me into this snore fest…”
“You know what they say about men who snore, Kenshin!” Far ahead, Shingen smiles wryly before smoothly vaulting off his horse. “I think I’m keeping you from showing off and stealing all the fun for yourself.” Back to back with his apparent ally, Shingen hefts his odachi, nearly as tall as himself.
Yet somehow and to her awed eyes, when he wields it, he seems even taller, even greater. “Anyone interested in losing their lives today? Then step right up.”
“Any idiots can go and get killed by Shingen. I want to fight the skilled and the brave.”
An Oda soldier reacts vigorously, “Take them down and take home glory! Attack!”
Another armored man clad in red steps up. “Protect our lord!”
“Don’t step on my account!” Shingen commands, “Concentrate on your own enemies.” His velvety voice carries over the loud rush of wind that comes with each swing of his monster of a sword.
He’s… I’ll admit it. He’s kind of wow. Shingen could bring down three soldiers with one well-calculated strike, swords and men falling to the ground before him. Behind him, Kenshin’s blade flashes, leaving dead men in his wake.
“The tiger and the dragon. Their fangs are sharp as ever,” Nobunaga’s crimson eyes seem to be drawn to every strike of Shingen and Kenshin’s swords, just as hers are. “Their alliance may prove to be more trouble than I thought.”
One of Nobunaga’s men come riding towards the two of them, shouting, “My Lord, you must fall back! It’s too dangerous here!”
That, naturally, draws Shingen’s attention, but those smoky grey eyes pass right over Nobunaga. They stop on her, holding her shocked gaze—and if eyes could whisper, they would say ‘Hey cutie’. With all the confidence in the world, Shingen then winks at her, her heart sputtering and stopping for a beat.
… He just… winked at me…
“Shingen, three at a time? Stop being wasteful and save some for me,”
“I would, but you know of my terrible affliction. I have to show off in front of a beautiful woman,”
“… A woman? There’s a woman here?” Kenshin’s gaze cuts through the crowd with the same ruthlessness as his sword, spotting her. That’s not a wink, that’s a death glare. As soon as it comes, it melts away as Kenshin’s eyes widen in a kind of shock, staring at her for a second like he couldn’t believe what he’s seeing.
Then, those heterochromatic eyes notice Nobunaga and Kenshin grows spine-chillingly pleased. “Nobunaga… you’ve come out.”
“Kenshin, I shall be your opponent,” The mere statement all but screams trouble—she really, really doesn’t want to be on Nobunaga’s horse while he fights that killer in a duel.
Can I, uh, call a cab?
However, the so soul-stirring duel doesn’t happen as all in a sudden, Shingen steps up to his ally. “Let’s call it quits, Kenshin. We’ve done enough for today,” He seems to decide in a very nonchalant manner. “Remember, we’re not here to kill Nobunaga. Not yet.” Surprisingly, Shingen’s calming voice is the song to soothe Kenshin’s savagery.
The blonde warrior still shoots him a fierce glare, though, “I’m not leaving when the ultimate prey has just offered himself up to me.”
“Fair enough. But are you really going to enjoy killing a man when his woman is there, clinging to his back?” Shingen points out, “I thought you liked fighting your opponents when they’re in the best possible condition?”
“… Why must you ruin everything, Shingen?” Kenshin’s fine features twist into a spiteful scowl. “I’m disappointed, Nobunaga. You’ve become the kind of corrupt noble who dallies with his concubine on the battlefield? Perhaps a good head wound will straighten you out. Or better yet, kill you.”
Nobunaga scoffs, “And maybe next time you come back from hell, you can do so with more sense than bloodlust.”
Shingen doesn’t let his ally catch on his bait, “Easy now, Kenshin. We’ll kill him in time. But the stage isn’t set yet.” There’s a coldness in Shingen’s expression that doesn’t quite leave as he turns to Mai, “I’m sorry to frighten you with this display, Princess-Chatelaine of Azuchi.”
Princess-Chatelaine? So, he really has done his homework.
“We’ve met three times now: By inevitability, whim, and finally fate.” His smoky grey eyes pierce into her very soul, “Are you anticipating our fourth meeting as much as I am?” Every word he draws out feels hypnotizing—like a flute to a snake, moved and drawn by the mere movement of those impossibly alluring lips. “My offer is sadly running out of time…”
“… Wh-what do you even mean by that?” She has so many questions, but as ridiculously tongue-tied as she is, it’s all she can do but gape, incredulous and entranced.
“Good questions. Can I take it you’re excited to hear the answers at our next meeting? Great! It’s a promise!” Mai keeps gawking at that too familiar and dangerously enchanting smile, her heart pounding too hard.
Shingen is Nobunaga’s enemy, all in all hers as well, given her status. Nonetheless, the idea of seeing him again is almost too thrilling, the sheer anticipation coursing through her not helping at all. Probably not in the middle of a battlefield, pretty please.
“So, the Tiger turns tail to flee like a coward for the second time.” Nobunaga taunts him with a devilish smirk.
“Keep your filthy mouth shut.” Shingen’s lighthearted enthusiasm vanishes at Nobunaga’s provocation, his eyes turning dark and deadly cold—and suddenly Mai doesn’t feel like looking at them anymore. “I’ll be back, Nobunaga, for your head. Best use it while it’s still connected.” His and Kenshin’s vassals guide their horses to their commanders, the two men mounting up. “We’re pulling out, Kenshin.”
“… This was a disappointment. The next fight better not be, Nobunaga.” The odd retreat makes her confused. Why would they give up in the middle of a battle? Or did they really come with the mere purpose of revealing themselves?
It seems kind of silly, but the honest truth is the further away they get, the better she can breathe, Shingen’s magic spell losing its grip on her. To a great extent, she’s genuinely glad it didn’t come down to a true fight, the current result being grim enough to her eyes.
Nobunaga keeps his gaze fixed on the vanishing figures of his two rivals for a very long time, even when their armies break away and withdraw with their leaders. “Did Takeda know about the flying column I had in wait?”
“What? Flying column?”
“The detachment of troops from Toshiie I kept in reserve. In an extended battle, they would have given me the advantage.” So, Nobunaga had his own strategy all along, “It’s all too easy to bait the God of War, but Takeda’s harder to trap.” More challenged than disappointed, he returns to giving orders, “Do not pursue them. No doubt their garrison is empty. They had no intention of staging a prolonged conflict in the first place. Send out scouts to confirm they’ve withdrawn and once they have, we’ll do as well.”
Mai had no idea such a violent battle could come to an end so abruptly. However, the repercussions are far from over—soldiers groaning and bleeding as far as her eyes can reach; some men most likely never getting up again. So many casualties for a battle that lasted only a few hours, for a cause that’s not even their own. How many more would die if they kept fighting?
Is there anything she could do to help or, at least, turn the situation to a more positive light?
As she asks herself that question, she sifts through her memories of the battle. Waiting patiently at the end of the line is one particularly pesky memory.
“We’ve met three times now: By inevitability, whim, and finally fate. Are you anticipating our fourth meeting as much as I am? My offer is sadly running out of time…”
What in the world did Shingen mean? What does she even has to consider of his so-called proposal? Is he just expecting her to walk away with him the very moment they meet again?
And, most importantly, what is he capable of doing if she refuses to take his offer?
Odachi: Japanese greatsword.
A-N: HERE COMES MY BOY! HE'S HERE! IT HIMMMMMMMM! Also, this looks like an opportune moment to mention I'm currently running a 30 Days of Shingen on my art blog, because flooding y'all with content from my ravishingly handsome tiger just seems like the best way to start the year :D

He grabs a commentary on their great-great grandmother and puts it on top of the others, on the pile of papers he doesn’t really suspect his brother to read thoroughly. “I didn’t.” He responds tiredly as he shuts the drawer and leans against the wall, “Do I want to know how you know?” Doffy comes to stand next to him, tilts his head back until Roci can glimpse at his eyes from the side, and teases, “I looked, of course.” Notes: interesting take on what if roci wasn’t allowed to infiltrate the donquixote family and continued being a marine but it has only 1 chapter whelp; there are pairings tagged but then again no shippy thing at all since it’s not updated

This place is really kind of unique, considering what it’s real purpose is.” Mitsuhides comment just earned a frown of disapproval but nothing else. He on the other hand was excited, finally the forbidden den was opened for him to explore and dig it’s secrets. Too bad she wasn’t here to see her face. An yet, he wouldn’t want her to get hurt.
“A Secret handshake or,…”
“Ah this is why you were banned from here young Akechi. That tongue of yours and your eyes of a sly fox. No wonder they don’t want you here. You should be humble and grateful, after all you finally got in, isn’t it?” the old voice echoed thru the space with a hint of sneer and almost regret.
“Thanks for coming Kincaid.” Nobunaga approached the old man with caution extending his hand to salute him.
“Ah, Oda is nice to see you here. I see you brought everyone. Follow me they are w” he gave a look at Mitsuhide still with his hands up. “Come and if any warning is good, don’t stray from the path we are walking, or you won’t come out of this place ever again.”
“I guess that’s for you Mitsuhide.” said Hideyoshi passing him by while following Kincaid.
Yes, this was getting amusing, interesting and maybe…dangerous. They kept walking for another half an hour until Nobunaga stopped. Kincaid turned around raising an eyebrow.
“Something wrong Lad?.”
“We been walking around the place for 30 minutes now, what’s this?…”
“Ah, the Devil, The Brains, The Snake and the gentleman or perhaps mother hen? But some people are missing, I said bring everyone didn’t I? Where is the Dragon? And the Do…”
“He is out of the equation…” Nobunaga cut it, only to be interrupted again.
“For now, I don’t like to waste my time with this.
“And if we don’t agree?” asked Nobunaga tentatively.
“Ah you live up to your reputation, Devil. Selene told me you were wise for your age so asking dumb questions is not wise. She has a lot of faith in you, even you Akechi.” the man answered with a sarcastic chuckle. “So you left her with the Dragon aren’t you?” the old man continued to walk toward Nobunaga and stopped in from of him.
“It was the best choice, Masamune will take good care of her.” said Hideyoshi.
All the old men started laughing at once. Shingen’s group and Nobunaga’s exchange a confused look to each other. Only Kenshin was also laughing. After calming himself he said. “ The moment he gets outnumbered is over. That man does not do well on cases where he needs to protect people I believe the girl is still in danger.”
“Wrong, God of War, I’m surprised you haven’t found out. That girl is such a stubborn thing sometimes. We didn’t raise a fairy tale princess if that what you think.
She was only wearing Masamune’s shirt and felt her cheeks growing hot from embarrassment.
You?” she didn’t move, her heart skipped a beat when he got close to her.
First of all I’m not pretty, second will you stop…” any other reply died on her lips at the moment Masamune shut her up with kiss.
Masamune wasn’t letting her think just feel, letting her know how much he wanted her. He didn’t care about the damn scar, or anything only her.
“I’m not worthy of you…”
“It’s me who is not worthy and yet I can’t stop thinking about you. “
He saw her eyes opening wide and put her mouth on a fine line. “This is not a competition you know?. Who are thou worthy of who?” he couldn’t help it and started laughing. “Lass, really? Now we got Shakespeare? I kissed you because it was the only way to let you know that I want you.  I want to know you better also, Selene. I like what I see, and I don’t care if you are even a demon I want you ok?” the look of desire on his eyes sent a shiver to Selene.
The doubts were still there in her eyes he could see them. But also he saw something else. Everyone had a past, he knew that very well. But which past she had and how bad was only time will tell and her will tell.
“So you don’t mind take things slow?” he hesitation was understandable.
“No kitten, with you I don’t.” he looked her directly at the eyes.
Slowly Selene raised her hands to cup his cheeks and kiss him softly on the lips. “OK then can we go back to my sandwich? I’m starving.” with a smile Selene stood and offered her hand to Masamune.
“Right, lets get some food on that stomach.” he stood up kissed the back of Selene’s hand and said.
“ I don’t make promises but on this case I want to make an exception.
Giggling Selene replied “Common, is a promise, besides I’m cooler than you.” she just winked at him while going back to the kitchen.
“As if.” Masamune followed her into the kitchen intended to keep making her smile as long as he lived.
