I think because Darren has stated before (and numerous times) that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and likes to make fun of himself, fans think they can do it, too. But imo it’s just the excuse they use to be ‘mean’ w/o having consequences. Personally I don’t feel comfortable making those types of jokes about someone who I, at the end of the day, don’t know. If I ever do joke around is with people I consider my closest, and only because we have that type of relationship where they know I’m only joking and where I know they also like to make fun of themselves. ALSO, I never, ever, make fun of something that can actually make them feel bad (ie: oh haha you’re balding). I’ve always thought it’s quite bizarre they joke that way with Darren… he’s friendly with his fans and is warm and open, but don’t get it twisted, he still very much controls the narrative (as he should btw). He’s friendly - but he’s not our friend. And imo more people should be aware of that little fact.

100% how I feel. Darren isn't our friend.

One day I'll take one of the main offender, mock the person about something themocked about themselves and see how they feel when a stranger uses their word to mock them. I'm pretty sure I know the answer.

Bards are psychopaths

Context: I play a druid named Kikki and I’m playing with a bard and a dwarven fighter. The bard’s player is normal enough, but when he’s in character- oh boy. And this is just from our first session.

Bard: Kikki, I’m just gonna let you know now, if you die before me, I am totally gonna eat your face.

Me: What?

Bard: I’m gonna eat your face if you die before me.

Me: WHY

Bard: It’s a pretty face. I wouldn’t want it to go to waste.

Dwarf: *general ‘what the fuck’ noises*

Bard:  …

Me:  …

Bard: So would you prefer to be slow roasted or kentucky fried

Me: NO

(About five minutes later my character overhears this whilst trying to fall asleep in their camp. Bard is on watch duty, much to my discomfort).

Bard: Hey Throk (the dwarf) you awake?

Dwarf: *grunts*

Bard: Can I lick your beard

Dwarf: Fuck no

(needless to say, this did not make it any easier to sleep with the bard on watch.)

(Later that session, we were fighting a group of kolbolds and the bard did another creepy thing).

Bard: (OOC) I’m gonna cast Vicious Mockery

DM: Alright, what do you say?

Bard: (OOC) I lean in towards one and whisper  “You smell like my delicious underpants.”

DM: Okay, you roll your die and I’ll roll for the kolbold.

*they roll. Bard gets a nat20 and the kolbold fails it’s save anyhow*

DM: The kolbold turns pale as you whisper these incredibly creepy words in its ear, then crumples to the ground, dead.

Me: (Both in and out of character) WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F U C K

Sousuke was there, in that fancy restaurant sitting on the floor as the food spreaded in front of him. "If that brat agreed to come along, we'd have fun." He thought. Meanwhile Rin was in the cage as the men waited there for that dealer to come.

"If that bitch didn't come, let's kill him."

"Yea, he is trying to put spells on our master."

They lit a fire and sat around it, talking shit about Rin. While he was near themocked in the cage.

"Look at him! What a slut! From where did you get your clothes? Huh?"

"Bet you was off because the master fucked the shit out of you."

And the bursted into laughter.

As Sousuke started to drink after the meal, he overheard two men saying , Yea..and his hair is maroon..."

What was with him now? Saying his hands were good but that he was mean and didn’t do as he wanted… He did! He did everything! He jerked them both off, together, he was loud, he did everything he knew! Rin was tired but he still felt up to fight, but before he could think on an argument, the other was carrying him up, making the jewels fall back into place.

A bath would help to get the stickiness away and to relax, but he wasn’t really  up to go out. “I’m not hungry.” He replied with tired voice as the other walked with him in his arms. Rin faced the path they were taking, his head turned from where he could see Sousuke’s face as he focused on the room instead. Just a say, he couldn’t really focus. 

When the other kissed his forehead he didn’t even flinch, it was nothing and he just kept as quiet as his softly agitated breath allowed him to be. He guessed they were going back to the room with the big pool so they could wash themselves. Then, Rin really wanted to sleep.
