I noticed something about the Canon dragons in Darksiders.
Frostbane and the Destroyer. They both move similarly to cats!
It makes me wonder what other feline traits they exhibit when they're not trying to fight the horsemen.
It was a lot of inspiration for me when Nyörun was first in development.

A random thought
I may be cringe for saying this, but I had a funny thought...
It is a personal headcanon of mine that Strife R E E K S. Not that I can blame him, it's an easy thing to forget from time to time. If he or Death get too stinky and decide to be in her presence, Nyorun bathes them in the cleansing power of her fire.
No stinkies allowed!!!
(Maybe I will sketch something for this at some point.)

Note
How does Nyorun feel about family?
She has a good relationship with her family, and so she would give her life to them!
She finds family an important value, but also finds the value in a chosen family, and that is why she vows to herself to be a worthy found family member at any given opportunity. No matter the circumstances.
And those under her care will find a safe space with her.

🍀 I'll tell you about a lucky charm or superstition my OC believes in.
Nyorun, as a Maker, believes that everything crafted has its own spirit or soul. To honor her father, she carved a statue of him, lifesize. She consults it in times of distress and sleeps by it because she believes that a piece of her father's soul will find a place within the stone she carved.
Before she leaves her den to survey the Earth for any survivors, she asks the statue of Eideard to protect her home, or guide wayward souls to her home where they'll be safe.
Some days it feels like she really is looking down at her father.
....Or is it just the isolation setting in?

🌓 and I'll share how my OC handles moments of uncertainty.
Tumblr media
When Eideard is still alive, Nyörun typically just consults him for advice. His wisdom is a great comfort for her, especially since he always seemed so understanding of her needs.
After his passing, however, she found much more solace in solitude. Whenever she is uncertain or overcome with stress, she excuses herself for a walk...
Only in this case, it's airborne.
Simply put, she flies!
It's a great reliever at making her problems seem small, sometimes literally! Flying also gives her the opportunity to work out her problems before making rash decisions.

Note
Tell us something about Nyörun that she finds embarrassing!
Tumblr media
When she was a hatchling she had a habit of chasing lights shining off of shields and weapons, never quite realizing where the source was.
And she still does this as an adult! It is very distracting and she gets embarrassed when that childish habit comes through when she needs to be serious.

Note
Does Nyorun tend to argue or avoid conflict?
The easiest way to answer this one, my dear anon, is with my own question, "When are we viewing her character arc?"
She is a Maker at heart so naturally she is very stubborn! However, depending on where we see her in the story, she wears it differently.
So yes, she is argumentative, and too proud to back down if she believes herself to be correct, although, in some cases she has been proven wrong.
As Nyorun ages, she finds herself quietly holding onto her pride, because petty squabbles mean nothing.
When we first see her, she is very loud in her opinions and is not afraid to tell anyone what's on her mind.

War doesn’t quite understand human slang yet...
He’s trying his best though, guys.
(saw this on a meme and I had to redraw it with these two. Especially after playing Genesis)

Forge Lands/Maker headcanons
Tumblr media
First, let’s talk about the environment these hardy people come from.
The Forge Lands are typically cold. No matter the region you're in or the season that it is, it is cold. Wear a coat or pelt when you visit!
The water is crisp, clean and so, so blue. You can see down at least 20 feet in one of their grand lakes.
The air smells of sweet pine and snow, as such, most Makers carry this scent with them. Smoke from their forges and the mountainous air.
The Makers would definitely enjoy colder weather compared to warmer climates as that is what they were born with and are used to. They’re the “Wear shorts and tank top in a blizzard” type of kid at school
More under the cut. I kinda went ham on these headcanons rip
The Makers pride themselves on strength, both emotionally and physically. If you're having a problem, you can pound your emotions out into a piece of scrap metal. Never tell others what you're going through. If a Maker asks for your help in something if you are not an immediate family member is a great sign of trust and respect.
The Makers have a village mentality. They are all a tightly knit community that regard each other as family. Despite being so standoffish with outsiders, Makers desire and long to be with their family and community. Being separated is a great strain on their mentality.
Makers are definitely a show- not tell- kind of people. If you were dating one, you would almost confuse their gestures of affection as just being kind and thoughtful. They will be your handyman or make you things all the time. You mention something is broken? It will be fixed by the end of the day. They are proud though so they will make it obvious they fixed it but “not because they like you or anything…” but because it was necessary. (even if it really wasn’t.)
If you had a family of makers as your neighbors you would probably hate them! As artists and creators, Makers often follow their inspiration when it calls. At any time of day. Your sleep schedule will be ruined by the sounds of their backyard forge lighting up and the sounds of pounding metal. But on the bright side, they are basically a neighborhood watch/vigilante force. They won't interact with you unless it's to tell you about a robber that was trying to break into your house that they apprehended only moments before.
Despite being proud, most if not all of them will consult either Elder Eideard or Muria. Depending on the area the particular individual was struggling with. The great chieftain does not get that much opportunity to guide as he did in his youth since the Makers population dropped after their war on the dragons. Still, his people seek out his guidance regarding important decisions such as marriage (as dictated by tradition.) Muria guides the makers spiritually of course, so they more than likely seek her out for injuries or strange dreams. Some in the past have even asked to have her read their fortune through the Tree of Life.
Makers can get along with others when duty calls, but they would much rather be left to their own devices; completely separate from the troubles of other worlds. They do not even want to tangle themselves with the council as they seem more than content to throw their weight around, no matter who gets hurt.
On that topic of throwing their supernatural weight around, that opinion goes for the Nephilim. They do not care for how the Nephilim left nothing but death and destruction in their wake.
When they are not making weapons of mass destruction, saving worlds, or just generally not trying to fix the mistakes of others, Makers do delight in the occasional festival. Things like the Summer and Winter soltices. These celebrations are where meeting a Maker is best for you. They are more likely to be welcoming of newcomers. These celebrations are to bring joy to their existence. Nights filled with drinking, wrestling, dancing and singing all night long.
Makers average to be around 12 feet tall (around 3.6 meters for people using metric)
From their facial appearance and structure, Makers have a particularly sensitive sense of smell. Or at the very least, Nephilim carry a strong scent on them. It is nearly impossible for a Nephilim to hide themselves from a Maker. The face shape could also be indicative of the cold climate as well.

How powerful is Nyörun?
Well, It depends on what you mean by "Powerful". Magically? Or physically? The answer to both of those questions is surprisingly similar! When her story first begins, she wants to reject what she is. She doesn't realize how important her role is. Adding this under the cut because it's very long. I kinda went ham answering this one!
By the end of her story, she is fully accepting of her role as the mouthpiece or avatar of the Tree of Life. So I guess the best comparison I can make is that she's the foil for Frostbane. He is the avatar of the void.
She can hold her own against fighting Abaddon or as she knows him, The Destroyer.
Tumblr media
She does not match him in military tactics and wit, but she is another dragon and has been one for what I assume is longer than him, so she is more aware of her body than he is.
There was a small story I was working on a long time ago with @coloredgravity and @crowsofafeather where her soul got stolen from her and while Death was trying to get it back, War was saddled with the duty of holding her off since he is the strongest of the Nephilim in raw strength.
In terms of magic? Nyorun is strong because she pulls hers from the Tree of Life, so her breath weapon is... a little op... Her magic has the ability to restore life, or return you to the lifestream. I.E. Kill you instantly. It's kinda a nuclear breath weapon; or a big biohazard. Despite that, it is beautiful.
Tumblr media
I found this gif a while ago so I'm not sure where to give the proper credit, but it's this blinding flash of light when used in a combat setting. sorry, this post was kinda long! I hope it helps answer the question!

A shooting star?
Tumblr media
It was a late night.
You were up with guard duty. The sounds of your comrades sleeping peacefully in your makeshift camp, but there was no light. The light of campfires attracts attention if you’re not careful about hiding it, so once the sun went down, you and your crew smothered the flames. The embers long subsided.
Your eyes made their way to the sky, trying to placate your climbing anxiety about the rustling of the dying flora. Word on the wind was there was a sanctuary somewhere far away, and if you and your friends were lucky, you may indeed find it. One surefire way of knowing was after dark.
A shooting star. Brighter than all the others in the deep blue sky. It was always going the same way, around the same time every night on your journey. Without fail. You would never tell your friends about this, they gave up their superstitions long ago, but seeing the light always gave you hope. Rekindled your willingness to survive and fight.
As you saw the star again, a smile crossed your features; but something was strange this time...
You could have sworn you heard a roar emanating from the sky.

Can Nyörun sing or play any instruments?
I think in her human form, Nyörun can absolutely sing. She's an alto!
In her dragon form, it's a little tricky, as I've noticed that dragons in Darksiders have interestingly ethereal, echo-y voices. Maybe they can harmonize when they sing alone! I think Nyörun does anyway.
I wonder what it would sound like if the dragons all sang together? I think it would either sound really good, or really bad, as I think Nyörun is the only one without such a gravely voice. To me she sounds kinda like Sapphira from the Eragon film or Alexstrasza from World of Warcraft.
Sadly, she has no instrumental tact. Not for a lack of trying! She gets frustrated when she's not good at things right away, and a dragon's frustration leads to broken objects nine times out of ten.

So I've been playing through the Spyro reignited trilogy in my free time and I realized something super cute!
Baby Nyörun would absolutely frolick like Spyro does! She probably does it as an adult too, but it's significantly less cute when scaled up to her adult size
Here's a good gif example of what I mean:
Tumblr media
She probably had to move this way as a baby because her body was very fat and potato shaped. She doesn't do it as frequently as an adult but sometimes when she's in an open area she will scamper.
Just imagine a full grown dragon frolicking like a baby... ❤️
Maybe if I ever get around to animating, I'll try and draw Spyro's run cycle with her

When Nyörun and Fury first met, it didn't go very well. Their personalities were very opposite. Fury didn't like that Nyörun would try and threaten her, and Nyörun didn't like that Fury would throw her weight around and have that sort of attitude.
So here the girls are, having a clearly peaceful discussion.
Tumblr media
Don't worry, they don't know it yet, but they'll be friends.

I know I've talked about my personal timeline for Darksiders and its games, but I just realized I've never actually written it down before!
Darksiders Genesis - probably the first chronologically as it gives background into our lonely horsemen, and more then likely takes place hundreds of not thousands of years before the horsemen find themselves on earth.
Darksiders 3 - this is Fury's story and despite being labeled as 3, it's the first game that takes place on earth. During the first days, weeks, or possibly months after the initial start of Armageddon. She's busy securing humanity's safety alongside the makers. The earth is still green and there is still life to be found
Then we move on to Darksiders 2
Darksiders 2 - I believe this takes place maybe between 25 and 75 years after the events of Darksiders 3. We still see that the effects of the end war are fairly fresh. (And I believe Death would not have waited so long after hearing that War was in trouble and falsely imprisoned.) Life is struggling but there's still something there.
And finally
Darksiders - this is the final step in the journey for the horsemen. The world is already very established when you play the games in this order. Taking place 100 years after the beginning of the end war. The earth has begun to die and animals and living things are dying but adapting with each new generation. Life may be returning to the planet, but not as it once was.
I know there are books, but I've not actually read them yet. I'll add an addendum when I do!
