I really, really hate the "Female V is canon" vs "Male V is canon" debate that been popping here and here in the tags those past weeks

Cyberpunk 2077 is a Role Playing Game, there is no "canon" protagonist, that's the whole point. We all have a different playstyles, different stories and headcanons, our custom V is The Canon V of Our Own playthroughs!

After Phantom Liberty dropped, I've seen a lot of players, on Tumblr or Twitter, voicing their concerne and disappointment in how much more Female V focused the official promo, videos and even in-game credits became

I was one of them too, expressing my feelings multiple times, sometimes awkwardly, frustrated that Male V players were once again brushed to the side, because that's how it feels like, right?

Well, it might feels like it, but this isn't the case AT ALL, far from it. This is only what I would call a "Fandom Phenomenon" and I want to talk more about it a bit

I had a great conversation with a friend of mine who works in the game industry and it opened my eyes on the matter, and I've since been really interested in seeing RPGs statistics!

Because it's really, really important to make the difference between the Casual Player Base (majority of players) and the Fans / Fandom Base (minority of players)

I always been lurking in fandoms here on Tumblr, since Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and now with Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3

First I want to drop some stats- might be completly wrong, but I'm only sharing my point of view here, in an attempt to explain why some people are frustrated with Female V being the focus (and why we shouldn't be!)

I think it's not wrong to say that fandoms are mostly occupied by women and fem-identifying individuals; fandoms are a safe place for players and fans to share their passions. Women are STILL HEAVILY harassed and hated in the gaming industry as a whole, it doesn't take a lot of digging to catch a vile comment on Twitter or on Twitch for example, you cannot go far without seeing someone either attacking or sexualizing them

This is a huge problem in the industry still, every games that release with a female protagonist get trashed- just look at the bullshit surrounding GTA 6 just because players will be able to play as a woman as an option

Fandoms are also safe for non-gender conforming people, non-binaries, trans people and queer men, but I think fem individuals and women are a clear majority, at least on Tumblr (only talking about genders identity here and not about being queer or not, not talking about sexualities or attraction) (not an official stat at all and only my point of view and experience from being on Tumblr since ~2012)

Now let's talk about Cyberpunk 2077- because this is my main fandom since 2020, and what prompted me to write this post in the first place

CDPR didn't share any stats recently, but it's REALLY SAFE to assume the MAJORITY of players are playing a straight Male V romancing Panam, followed by a lesbian Female V romancing Judy, but the player pools for both options are still majoritarly cis hetero men (and they are still the focus for AAA studios to sell their games, this is sadly just how it is)

However on the fandom side, Fem V was always the focus; virtual photography, mods, ships, OCs... She was always more popular than Male V, getting more interactions and notes and why trends like "Male V monday" were created and why there is still a lack of male V focused mods (non-binaries and trans fem folks and characters are also sadly under-represented in all type of content and art)

So, being yourself as a non-fem player, playing as a Masc V, seeing CDPR officially make the switch from Male V to Female V, when the space you've been in for the past 3 years has been overwhelmingly Female V focused on all front, was a bit of a punch in the guts; like I said earlier, I was reaaally frustrated with this too!

And I'd say it's "normal"? or at least "ok" to feel this way, it makes sense considering how little attention Male V in general get in the fans community

BUT. BUT... It's REALLY important here to realize how we sound and how we look like when we voice our frustrations on the matter; we sound and look just like all the misogynistic people over on Twitter who screams about "woke games" everytime there is a female protagonist in their "non political games". We have to remember that fandoms are suuuch a small part of the game industry

Another stat here from Mass Effect and really interesting info coming from David Gaider about how the hardcore fanbase aka fandom's choices were WILDLY different from the casual / main player pool

Getting my head out of the fandom bubbles and seeing the bigger picture, how much under-represented women still are in official medias (not talking about fan content) and how insanly misoginistic the game industry still is, both on the player and devs sides, helped me handle my own frustration on the matter, accept and even celebrate Female V being the focus for the Phantom Liberty campaign

With all that said tho, we all should be able to vent about the lack of Male, Masc and Non-Binary content in the fandom side, while still being aware of the industry state, it CAN co-exist! It doesn't make anyone a bad or misogynist person!

We are all humans and can be awkward and make mistakes, especially when voicing frustration or talking while in a negative mood. Let's educate one another in good-faithed manners when we slip instead of jumping to conclusion and throw accusations

Not gonna lie I kind of lost my train of thoughts and not sure how to finish this post, but I hope this can enlight some people on why CDPR made this choice!

Repeating this as a finale note; this doesn't mean that Female V is the "main" V or "canon" V . It's simply her time to shine, and it's well deserved! The industry needs it

RULES, LAWS, IMPORTANT STUFFS.FIRST AND FORMOST! I love ALL pairings. I will not tolerate any hatred towards any character.

1) These rules are subject to change.

2) There will be no hate messages on this blog. Meaning if I get sent a hate message it will just get deleted. I will not waste my time brooding over your message so you are just wasting your time typing it up.

3) No god modding. Understandably my characters can’t win EVERY single battle and will not win everything. I usually like taking a few and then your character takes a few. I will always, ALWAYS, come to you and ask how the end of the fight will turn out that way I can write accordingly.

4) Writing. I don’t expect a novel back if I write a novel, and sometimes I do. However, I do expect something to work with, please do not respond back to me if I leave you with a detailed post only for you to give me a one liner, it just kills the mood. – In addition! If you would like to respond to an ask please link the ask on a fresh new post, and tag me just in case, that way it looks more appealing. I do that with other roleplayers. C:

5) Original Characters. I love original characters, I personally suck at writing and developing them so for all of you original characters out there I applaud you. However, please don’t use me to come up for ideas of your original character, that’s not my job. If you like for a starter please understand that I will be staring at your character about page for a long, long, long time. It’s a little difficult for me to write for an original character so please be patient!

6) Ships. Here we go … This is a huge one for a lot of people. I am a Multi-shipper or trash – I’ll accept either lol. You are free to jump in my inbox or IM me and be like “Hey baby. You and my muse * suggestive eyebrow wiggle*”. I will most likely be like “FUCK YES LETS GO!” and bam! We ship. But here is my problem with most people: I have a lot of ships that I absolutely adore however, if you don’t like the ship me and my roleplay partner are doing you can either unfollow or shut the fuck up and ignore it, black list it – whatever. I’m saying that in the nicest way possible. I’m tired of people complaining that they “Hate this ship but I saw it and read it so now I’ll bitch on my blog about it.” Calm down, grow up and again, unfollow that person or ignore the post. Plain and simple or else you’ll probably be hearing about it from me. I have been in too many fandoms where this goes on.

7) Exclusives/Relationships. I am a-ok and more than happy to exclusively ship when it comes to main ideas and plot, but please remember that I am only one person and I do like interacting with other people. Exclusives doesn’t mean you own me in anyway. Exclusives to me normally mean that you are a close friend and most likely already have my discord. The more was talk IC or OOC the more likely I will pick you as an exclusive for main plots.

8) Reblogging when you have no permission. During my time of roleplaying on many sites tumblr is probably the worst for this rule. Anyone who reblogs threads, asks or any other communication between my partners that they are not tagged in will be kindly asked to delete the post. If not deleted within 24 hours you will be blocked from my page and I will not remove it.

9) Nsfw. Is only available for people who are of age and adults. I am 29 and I do not take light of being tricked when it comes to age. I will be asking your age if it is not in your mun section or anywhere visible, I will not be held liable if you are lying to me. You MUST be of legal age, please ask if you are interested in rping nsfw.

10) Personal Tags & Passwords. I don’t do personal tags or passwords. Final answer, if you follow me then it means you understand that I will NOT be tagging any personal tags.

11) Triggers. I don’t expect people to tag my trigger mainly because it only happens around Halloween time. I understand people are in the spirit but I absolutely hate seeing scary things pop out at me. It leads me to paranoia and I just can’t sleep at night. Anything paranormal I can’t handle, which is why I can’t watch scary movies. If I do see this on my dash it does lead to an unfollow, but not a block.

Fandom drama 😂

Ngl, I am enjoying how obsessed the Jonsas are with me. From big name Jonsa fans threatening to block followers if they interact with me to accusing other blogs who reblog my posts of being my sockpuppet because they sound like me with regards to Sansa/Jonsa.  

I imagine that when baby Jonsas are first initiated into the cult, elder Jonsas warn them about the big bad Jonsa bogeyman that is Jackoshadows lurking on the tags and threatening to enlighten them about the real Jon Snow in the books.

I guess they find me more threatening than Arya or Dany blogs because I stan one half of their ship and take delight in reminding them about how nonsensical their ship is. No doubt they similarly hate Sansa blogs that point out the idiocy of Jonsa.

Also here’s a newsflash: Other blogs sound like me with respect to Sansa or Jon or Arya because there’s nothing new in what I am saying and it’s only what’s been said for some 10-20 years in the Asoiaf fandom. There’s nothing revelatory or revealing in my posts. I am just talking about what’s in the books –  things that have been discussed ad nauseum since the books came out in 1996. Go to any discussion forum about GOT and they will rip apart show Sansa the same way I and innumerable other show watchers do. So if someone sounds like me, that’s because these are common interpretations of book and show characters.

It is indeed hilarious that Jonsa stans have their heads so far up their asses that they think they are the sole experts on both book and show Sansa. This would be the equivalent of flat earthers stating that they are the experts on the Coriolis force or the principle behind Foucault’s pendulum. Jonsas still don’t get that their ‘metas’ are viewed with ridicule and laughter in the wider fandom and that their relevance is limited to their cultish echo chamber.

Even the D+D = T  theory, more popularly known as the Time Travelling Fetus  theory, has more evidence in support of it happening in the books than Jonsa does. That’s how ridiculous Jonsa is.

In all honesty, the Jonsa cult should have disappeared into the shadows in shame after their trash political!Jon nonsense never happened on the show. This should have been the point when Jonsa fans realized that their bnfs did not know what they were talking about when they pretended to be experts in directing, acting, cinematography, script writing etc. and wrote metas about how Jon and Sansa were truly, deeply, madly in love with each other in seasons 6 and 7. This should have been the point when they realized that these same bnf Jonsas are now applying that same idiocy to the books. But I guess, like flat earthers, Jonsa fans will continue on with a belief that only they are solely right and continue to clog characters tags with their ‘metas’.

PS: When I am talking about Jonsas, I am referring to the fools who think that Jonsa is an actual canon ship in the books and show, that Jon romantically loves Sansa because she is beautiful and graceful and courteous, that 14 year old Jon had a crush on 10-11 year old Sansa and had always loved her, that Jon is not thinking about Sansa or referring to her in his 42 POV chapters because it’s just too painful, that whenever he refers to Arya in the books he is in fact thinking of Sansa, that any foreshadowing for Jonarya in the books is actually disguised foreshadowing for Jonsa, that Sansa is actually going to travel by herself to the wall from the vale through snowstorms and is going to save Jon and take back Winterfell from the Boltons, that GRRM actually wrote Targaryen couples like Alysanne-Jaehaerys in his Targ history book as clues for Jonsa etc.  

If you are someone who just fanon ships Jonsa for fun, then I say – go for it! Enjoy the ship and all the fanart and fanfiction etc. I am only referring here to the folks who act like Jonsa is 100% canon, pretend they are asoiaf/Sansa experts and then clog the Jon, Arya, Dany tags etc. with their nonsensical opinions on these characters.

Selfship Positivity Day: 4

I, once again, am not feeling too great so I hope none of you mind if I try to keep this short, sweet, and all in one piece. I also hope that you're having a terrific day and are getting all the love you deserve!! TLDR: THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE

I guess you can say that I've always been self shipping because I can still remember sitting at the desktop computer upstairs in my old home and typing in pink font about being friends with and having a few of the guys from my favorite childhood show fall in love with me. (Thank goodness that computer got bricked and trashed!) I was taught at a young age the difference of reality from fiction and due to having a brother who was 6 years older than me, I always kept quiet about it since I still hoped that someone, somewhere was having these Fantastical Adventures and that one day I would be able to join in on them!

Daydreaming was always a way for me to feel better from the less than lovely aspects of my life. Hell, my mom even encouraged it after she and dad (and my brother some times) would have another very loud argument. It's good to see about some things don't change (referring to how daydreaming can help me feel better from that, of course!) I never really grew out of it since I always kept up the boundary of fiction and reality but as I grew older, I just got quieter about it until I only daydreamed in my head to fit in like everyone else, I had enough to make me stand out.

But I started getting back into it in terms of, "I'm gonna love that character myself!" when I was 10 or 11. My brother had picked up a copy of MGS4 as his one Christmas present that year, and seeing how I was the younger sibling I tagged along with his adventures to occupy myself. I was dealing with a lot at the time in terms of more family dysfunction, homelessness, severe bullying from my peers at school, a lot of toxicity from reaching out to the wrong strangers online, plus this is when my dysphoria due to cerebral palsy really started to manifest itself. So when the cyborg-ninja Raiden was introduced and talked about, I felt a sort of connection because I felt for once that if he was real he'd love me despite all the 'issues' that I had!

So for my own enjoyment, I picked up writing again just so I could have something nice to read back on the not so nice nights. A few years later I had a new home, a few new friends who're genuine to me, and a somewhat better family situation, and my love for writing remained just as my love for Raiden did as well. I had a few crushes both real and fictional but they weren't much or that good for me. Life was definitely more enjoyable as I found another character I felt that connection to, Nero. (Sound familiar?)

Well another year passed and with the help of my friends I grew to enjoy talkin about my interests again rather than defending them! I wanna say over the summer of my sophomore year that I finally made a Tumblr, mainly just to follow my girlfriend who does amazing art and my other friend. I ended up using my main @child-of-the-nighttime-stars as a place to post my poetry and I believe someone in the community reached out to talk or I reached out to them and that's how I discovered the community!

I lurked around for awhile before I finally got the courage to make this lovely little corner of the interwebs for me! Sure, there has been some ups and downs but all in all it's been a pretty positive experience for me and I hope I've helped add to that too!

I've made a lot of friends and they're are a lot of people who I look up to but have been too shy to reach out to more because I wanna give you my best and I'm still a bit unwell so from the bottom of my heart: Thank you for the kindness and simply being here!

Your answer to that anti about the hug was very good and extremely mature compared to the asker. It does make me want to hug all the regular J0nsa shippers and let them know that we don’t hate THEM, just the antis. Whenever you talk to your friends of that ship, please tell them that this Jonerys shipper sends them some respect. We gotta stand together because one ship or another, at the end of the day, they’re both some type of incest.

I mean, yes, we’re both problematic for shipping some form of incest lol. I know that. I admit that. I’ll own it. We’re all in the trash pile. 

I only point out the brother/sister thing because while I don’t care that people SHIP IT, shipping it is different than insisting it MUST BE canon and harassing anyone who doesn’t agree. Like the antis I am somehow still getting in my inbox when I have at least 100 anti people blocked at this point. Those people try to find all of these little secret signals that it’s canon when really it’s just two people being siblings … THAT is why I point it out. Not to incest ship shame anyone. Because you’re right that Jonerys is too, though different in some ways, and we’re all here in the GOT fandom earning hate from the rest of tumblr who think we’re gross lol. But the difference is that Jonerys literally have had sex while a voiceover said “he loved her and she loved him,” so it’s not like we are out here just randomly finding two, attractive family members and claiming the writers are putting them together. Jonerys is actually a thing and I’m tired of being basically gaslighted by antis saying we are the delusional ones for calling a canon ship canon.

And yes, a good chunk of J0nsa bloggers are just regular, nice, gals just like us who love characters on all of our favorite show. Like literally 3 of my top fave mutuals are people who like J0nsa too. So no, I’m definitely not trying to paint them all with the same brush. Just like some Jonerys shippers pick fights with them while others don’t. I wish we could all coexist in peace. But some people can’t sleep at night unless they have spent the day pontificating about their ship, lurking in people’s inboxes about it on anon, and filling the Jon Snow tag with it. Different strokes I guess.

How do you run your blog?

Speed: It really depends. Usually I’ll get to a thread within a week or two at the longest. Given that have several partners that I talk to and plot with daily/weekly, we generate a lot of new ideas frequently and when something takes awhile, it usually got buried by under a crust of new threads and occasional meme prompt ask. My drafts box is like an archeological site, I swear. Sometimes I do have trouble with inspiration for a reply, but usually it’s just a matter of getting wrapped up with my little circle of friends and co-writers.

A side note, during my working week, my productivity slows to a crawl. I’m usually better off in Skype or tumblr IM and may get to a thread or two either before or after work if I’m just not in lurk/shit post mode until I pass out.

Replies: Aesthetically I use extremely light formatting. The first word always bolded and italicized and default size with all other text smaller. I also bold the quotation marks in dialogue because it looks hella cool on my blog proper given that I have bolded/italicized text is a different colour than the rest of the text. It also looks classy af on the dash. Icons for either FC depending on verse or comic caps are used until it gets to nsfw stuff or with some drabble prompts. As for preferences, I’m really quite flexible. Honestly, tho, I’m a multi-para whore and with most threads, eventually they start to get longer and longer. However, unless I can’t parse my muse’s thoughts on a matter or situation, I won’t go in hard and fast on a one-liner or small single para. Unless you’re one of my people, but then again, you prolly already have experience being slapped with my throbbing multi-para hard-on. 

I don’t expect people to match me, and sometimes I may struggle to match length, as well, but I do like to see an attempt. Like if I give you a four para starter, I would prefer not to get a two sentence reply back (some of you are shaking your head, but this actually happened to me in my halcyon days in the community).

Starters: I don’t do greeters, because idk, for me it feels like when a teacher called on you because you weren’t paying attention. Nearly every time I’ve gotten a greeter, I’m unprepared and feel quite suddenly pressed. The RPC is already a ball of anxiety 85% of the time and I don’t want to add to anyone’s discomfort, providing I’m not the only crazy person who reacts to getting a greeter like a distant gunshot. Depending on how clogged my drafts box is and how busy I am, I probably post a starter call every couple weeks and open starters very rarely because like, idk, no one ever hops on them, so I don’t really feel like they’re welcome. In the case of the latter, I only ask that people read the tags. Some open starters are meant for mutuals, particularly ones with some established interaction.

Unless they’re plotted starters (or replies to longer ask box meme responses that I wanted to turn into a thread), they usually start short and often vague. Please don’t keep it vague. It drives me nuts. I want you to present an idea, go out on a limb, whatever (I mean within reason of course, use your common sense, too). 

Inbox: It’s a mess, tbqh. A lot of times I mindlessly reblog or queue memes, especially at work or when I’m out and about on mobile, and then don’t feel like doing them or get excited over certain prompts over others. I will say that I keep things in my inbox for a very long time and might get to replying to prompt weeks to months later. Frequently I will draft ones that I know will be long.

Selectivity: Hoooo boy. I’m pretty fucking selective tbh. I like my partners to be literate and of course be able to enjoy their portrayal/character. That’s not to say I’m not open to meeting new people and interacting with new muses. I don’t need to know your muse extensively to RP with you, but I’m also perfectly willing to educate myself (I’m not going to front, I was compelled to watch both Daredevil and Preacher for the sake of character/canon research, as well as starting to read Lucifer). Also, I mostly RP with mutuals, but again, that doesn’t mean I’m not willing to discover new mutuals, you feel me?

Sometimes when my stress levels are high or I’m drowning in drafts, I tend to be a bit more standoffish and stick to “my people”, however this doesn’t last for long and may be broken by a compelling enough new interaction.

Wishlist item: *pounds table aggressively* CONSTANTINE FAM! AND I SUPPOSE THIS IS REALLY SELFISH BUT I WANT A CHERYL OR GEMMA RP BLOG IN MY LIFE. AND IDEK MAYBE HAVING A CHERYL BLOG WOULD BE BORING AS SHIT, BUT A GEMMA??? SURELY TO FUCK SOMETHING FASCINATING COULD BE DONE WITH HER. Also: CHAS! ELLIE! HELL BLAZER CANON CHARACTERS PLS.

Anyway, idk, I really don’t have a wishlist? I mean, there are certain themes I’m keen to explore. Like my mythological bent to John, and developing certain verses, but like...all things considered I’m just more interested in world and relationship building than ticking off a wishlist of AUs or situations I want to see played out. 

Honest note: I’m fiercely independent, and I don’t put up with bullshit. Honestly, I don’t have much tolerance for drama and the easiest way to push me away is pull me into a vortex of social or interpersonal drama. Been there, done that, and honestly I can be a bit skittish if I start getting a weird vibe. I’m coming up on five years RPing on tumblr and there’s not a lot that shocks me anymore. 

A few more admissions:

-- I love writing ships. When I wrote fanfic, it was 95% shippy stuff. That doesn’t mean it’s all about romance, fluff, and sex, sometimes it’s just how two muses relate to each other or a glimpse into their lives together, but I know my strengths and tend to default to them. This doesn’t mean I’m out to collect lovers for John or am not willing to step out my comfort zone, just that there’s going to be a lot of that stuff here.

-- If we talk ooc, there’s a 100% more possibility that you’re going to get more attention from me both ic and ooc. It’s just a matter of comfort level. Though I might seem together and confident, it’s only really in regard to my writing. I’m intimidated by people who are so much better at being witty and fun and silly on tumblr and chatty about their characters and fandom outside of the constraint of meme prompts or whatever. I guess I’m just afraid of boring people or having followers roll their eyes like “omg Iggy stfu. Don’t you have twenty-odd replies? Chop, chop you anal retentive bitch.” Mind, no one’s actually said this to me, I just have dodgy self-esteem, honestly, and some days are worse than others.

-- If I tell you I think you’re a good writer, I mean it. This is important.

-- If I tell you I’m worried about the quality of a reply I gave you, I’m not fishing for compliments, I’m legitimately uncertain that you’ll like it. Just fyi.

-- I’m bad at writing m/f ships in any expedient manner. I have no good excuse for this other than being queer trash that would rather write about men being in love and lust. And uh, that’s not a good excuse at all. I’m just the literal worst and I’m sorry I come off as not inclusive enough. Honestly, I’m trying to be better about this deep failing of mine.
