Meet the Author
Pam Ostwinkle, award winning poet and author, enjoys expressing herself through writing. She defines rhyme as one of the loves of her life, along with her family, teaching, and the arts. Old-time radio programs are another passion.
Rhyme, to Pam, encompasses more than words sounding alike. It is a celebration of language, a marriage of emotion and meter that is not reserved solely.
She considers rhyme to be a lost language, and believes in its power to convey information, ideas, and emotions. Pam spent many years speaking at schools, libraries, writing and reading conferences---often presenting in rhyme.
Pam has been writing nearly all of her life. She has been published in grade-school textbooks and magazines. Her published poems number over 400 and have appeared in greeting cards, calendars, framed watercolor prints, and anthologies. She has published two children’s books: The Little Teardrop and Monster Tools.

Pam’s debut book, The Little Teardrop, was adapted for “Dancing with Books” presentation. With the help of her brother, Mark, she wrote music for each shape and concept to accompany reading of the book. (to be posted soon)
Pam lives in Northeast Iowa with her husband Tony and five children: Callie, Lillie, Elsie, Sarah, and Ben. While she has several writing projects in the works, her works was paused so she could return to university; here, achieved degrees in English, Secondary Education., and Special Education. She has been a Secondary Special Education teacher for the past five years. In the evenings, she has directed musicals and has coached for both Individual and Large Group Speech. Currently, she is one credit away from her Master’s Degree in Special Education.
She has found a calling in Special Education, but her dream is to get back to writing full-time.
Despite being immersed in work, she has found ways to incorporate her talents into her duties.
For her BA thesis, Pam wrote three children’s books about philosophy. Written in rhyme and filled with her own colorful illustrations, her books: Looking Up, Bouncing on Big Ball, and The Nothing, provide a unique medium to introduce concepts of philosophy to children; this includes, most importantly, the premise of asking questions and thinking for oneself.
Check out some of her concept art for these books and stay tuned for a release date!
