The Little Nell Turns Thirty!

Three decades after opening their doors, The Little Nell turned thirty this year. With countless tracks made on the mountain behind the hotel, thousands upon thousands of guests greeted at the front door, and endless amounts of corks popped and glasses clinked over all these years, we thought it might be fun to take a look back at when they first opened their doors - 1989.

Sean Connery was the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’

‘Back to the Future’ was a runaway success

Kids said hello to the Nintendo Game Boy

The ‘Dynasty’ days came to an end

New Kids on the Block were the hottest thing on many neighborhood blocks

George Michael was a fashion forerunner with aviator glasses and leather jackets

Hips sported fashionable fanny packs

Thank 1989 (and every wedding since) for the electric slide dance

Aquanet was on every drugstore shelf and every bathroom counter

Acid-washed (the more, the better) jeans were the norm

Scrunchies for hair (and scrunchie socks for feet) were everywhere

Ski onesies and neon brights were slopeside de rigeur

The average lift ticket cost just $25

The Berlin Wall came toppling down

And last but not least, this music playlist perfectly captures the spirit (and that fresh Debbie Gibson smell) of 1989. For our younger readers, listen and learn.

All things holiday music went down at the @thelittlenell last night! Hundreds of ppl were hangin’ and I’m sure you heard ... Santa flew in! Finally got to meet the guy - I must have been nice enough this year 😉🎅🏻. What was supposed to be an hour set turned into 3 - the requests just kept comin’ and I couldn’t have been happier to keep on keepin’ on! Oh and Gia and crew crushed it when I called them up to sing with me. Future rockstars! I have fallen in love with the town of Aspen and all of the people who make it what it is. Off-Season Staycation // Aspen Area Getaways

Temps and leaves are dropping, which means some lodging prices are too. Along with the slow down of the season, locals are looking to embrace a slower pace. For now at least. Ski season will be here before you know it. If you’re ready for a staycation in Aspen, or within an hour drive or so, we’ve scouted out some of our favorite local finds.

The Little Nell // Colorado locals can enjoy this 5-star hotel with the Resident Rate, now through October 28th. With a valid Colorado ID, you can enjoy the Nell for a night. Or more. Let someone else make the bed and do the linens while you enjoy your staycation. The best part? It’s an easy walk downstairs to Element 47 or Ajax Tavern, both featuring a fall special that is $47 or $37, respectively. See their website for details and grab your room now!

Elsewhere in Aspen // The W is now open! And that rooftop deck is calling our names. If you book a room at the W with Kaleigh Kirkpatrick of The Shameless Tourist, you’ll receive a complimentary $50 breakfast credit. We call that a win-win. Or, check out the Limelight and their Colorado Locals’ Rate at both their Aspen and Snowmass locations. Downvalley // If you are in need of a good post-season soak, consider staying at the Glenwood Hot Springs Resort. This historic property is an easy walk to the newly renovated hot springs pool. Just note that they are closing the pool from November 5th - 6th for scheduled maintenance! Looking to get off the grid? Then head up 133 and stay at the Redstone Castle. This 116-year old property is on the National Register of Historic Places and is the perfect place to unwind and take a step back in time. Worth the splurge.

Aspen! Looking forward to singing Holiday carols for you at @thelittlenell Sunday, Dec 8!
