Phoebe/Knox + Bravery

I drop down on Knox’s bed, letting out a slow, intentional breath. He takes a seat next to me, carding his fingers through my hair.

“It’s okay,” he says, as I fight to regulate my breathing. “You’re doing so well.”

I crack one eye open to look at him incredulously. “I just had a panic attack from trying to go to work,” I remind him. “What part of this is doing well?”

He shakes his head. “You’re too hard on yourself, Pheebs. After…everything that you’ve been through, you’re doing far better than anyone could have expected.”

I nod, trying to accept his words. It was supposed to be my first day back at Cafe Contigo today. I made it through the first half an hour, but when one of the customers complained about the sauce being empty, something that was always Evie’s - sorry, Chelsea’s - job, my heart leapt into my throat. I may understand, on some level, why Chelsea did what she did, but the cold terror, that violating fear, I’m afraid I will always associate that with her name. Knox must have broken several speeding laws to come pick me up when I called him, hiccuping and sobbing. Luis basically had to carry me to Knox’s car, and he didn’t even comment on our relationship, I was that incapacitated by my panic. Doing well, he says.

Knox knows me better than anyone now. He can see straight into my brain. He uses the hand in my hair to gently tip my head up, pressing a kiss to the wet high points of my cheekbones on either side. “You are,” he insists. “Baby, you’re the bravest person I’ve ever met. If I had gone through even half of what you have, I would never get out of bed.”

It’s a new thing, baby. It melts my insides every time I hear it. “Says the boy who handled a live bomb,” I say, rolling on my stomach and propping up my chin to see him properly. “You’re incredibly brave, Knox.”

He smiles that soft grin that makes me ache to my core. We’re taking things slow, but when he smiles at me like that, there’s no mistaking the feeling for anything other than love.

“C’mere,” he murmurs, adjusting himself against the headboard and letting me curl into his chest. “Today is a new day,” he says. “We will try again.” It’s become somewhat of a mantra for the entire Bayview Crew.

I press a kiss to the cotton of his t-shirt, and he hooks an arm around my shoulders.

Out there might be a different story, but lying in Knox’s arms like this? Anything could happen, and we would overcome it together. Yeah, I feel very brave.

it’s the way knox was so unconfident after his and phoebe’s kiss in OOUIN that he didn’t even believe she truly meant what she said and then when he asked her out she said no because she felt like she had to protect her family BUT HE DIDN’T KNOW THAT SO PROBABLY CARRIED ON THINKING THAT HE WASN’T WORTHY OF HER AND SHE DIDN’T LIKE HIM WHEN IN REALITY SHE WAS PINING FOR HIM SO HARD KAREN WHY-

“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy.” OOUIN trio

"I don't think I've ever been this happy," Phoebe declares as she lays on the floor of Knox's kitchen, Fritz licking her face as she scratches his belly.

Both Maeve and Knox look up from their homework to give each other matching grins as they turn to look at Phoebe. Her eyes are bright and she's been giggling nonstop.

"You're like a little kid," Maeve says fondly. She pushes away her laptop and climbs out of her chair to sit crosslegged next to Phoebe.

"I am today," Phoebe assures her. After a moment, Knox joins them, stretching out on the linoleum floor on his side.

"I think Fritz is happier than you," Knox points out. The trio turn to look at the ecstatic dog, who can't decide whose face to lick first.

Phoebe shifts so her head is in Maeve's lap. "Not possible."

Maeve runs her fingers through Phoebe's hair. "Stay happy as long as you'd like, Pheebs."

Phoebe reaches for Knox's hand and closes her eyes. It's not hard to follow through with her two favorite people next to her.

I will never stop being angry about Phoebe and Knox only getting together at the end of OOUIB because there was no other couple which went through so much development. We got to watch Knox like Phoebe from afar but never think that he was good enough for her, their friendship arise through pure care and liking of one another (and also Maeve), Phoebe start to notice things she liked about him and eventually kissing him on the rooftop, Phoebe pining for him while (we are left to assume) Knox does the exact same, both characters dying to finally be together, an argument, forgiveness, and ...

That's it?

Every couple got their happy ending. Phoebe and Knox however? They got a rushed moment on a rooftop which didn't even precisely tell us the nature of their relationship.

I want to see these two extremely wearied and hurt characters finally allow themselves the simple happiness of being together, I want to see the struggles of their early relationship as they try to get a hold on the feelings they've tried to suppress for so long, I want to see Phoebe navigate being in a relationship with someone she cares about more than she has any other boy, I want to see Knox battling his insecurities around Phoebe and his not feeling worthy enough, I want to see Phoebe opening up to Knox even though she's scared, I want to see Knox supporting her through all the horrible aftermath she is left to experience as well as the lasting trauma, I want to see Phoebe help Knox to see his own value, I want to see Knox finally accepting himself and that he deserves love, I want to see the couple who has gone through hell and back before even getting together finally be able to experience the trust and relief the other characters get to.
