　 【GENT”S STYLE】 「W.ユージン・スミスの「THE JAZZ LOFT」と「みなまた」の間、フォトジャーナリズムとは何か」 ブログ公開しました。 「報道写真家 W.ユージン・スミスに関する映画が日本で相次いで公開された。ひとつはジョニー・デップ主演のハリウッド映画『MINAMATA』、もうひとつは水俣へ行く前の半生を描いたドキュメンタリー映画『THE JAZZ LOFT』である。 (映画の予告編ではユージンの代表作が掲載されている）。 『THE JAZZ LOFT』は10月15日に公開されたので、これを書いている10月20日現在、日本では双方の映画を劇場で観ることができるはずだ。 この二つの映画の間に横たわるもの、1940年代半ばからフォトジャーナリズムを確立した報道写真家W.ユージン・スミスが、生涯を通して描きたかったものは何であったのか。 しばしば写真は、撮影された背景と作者の意図を知ることで一枚の写真が持つ意味が全く違って見えることがある。その背景には何があったのか。 　これから映画を観る方のために、そして既に映画を観た方のために、写真表現を愛する私なりの考察と映画に描かれていない史実についても書いてみようと思う。 　本稿はぜひウィスキーと、セロニアス・モンクの「Little Rootie Tootie」「Straight, No Chaser」「Monk’s Mood」そして「Round Midnight」を傍に読んでもらいたい。 ユージンが見出したような救済がウィスキーとジャズにはあるはずだから。」 記事の閲覧、入会はリンクより。 www.gents-style.com #thejazzloft #minamata #photography #journalism #magnum https://www.instagram.com/p/CVXMsbsJSWM/?utm_medium=tumblr
