Guess who's back, baby!! Wrote a lot this year and I'm pretty happy about it. Anyway, I did a write up with the usual questions on my dw page HERE.

I’m in the not so unique position of where I wrote at least 4 of the fics at least 75% of the way done 13-15 years ago, which is a huge chunk of words. I would estimate 12k written over a decade ago. The Top Gun fics were leftover WIPS from last year. Minus 20k words in total? So more like 71k. Which. Still a massive amount for me.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?

I published 1 fic last year and it took all I had in me. But, privately, I wrote a bunch of OC stuff. I definitely blew myself out the water this year. I don’t think I’ve ever had that much output in a loooong time.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?

Bruh. Team Fortress 2 after 14 years of moving on. I’m still fervently shipping sniperspy—and I’ve always been a same fraction girlie. Not much has changed with how I think of them but now that I am older and wiser and better at pwp… I know they’re both bottoms. I know it in my heart. I think the me from 14 years ago would be pretty pleased that I can now write decent pwp (or I just don’t care to be self conscious about it anymore).

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?

lol, I love all bite to pieces. It was fun to write! Truly joyous. I answered this question on a tumblr meme so here’s the answer:

I was on an absolute mission with that one. Knew what I wanted, from top to bottom. Wrote it VERY fast. I love how it flows; it’s easy to read, easy to understand the dynamic. (At least, for me.) Sniper bottoms. Spy bottoms. They’re both extremely clear with what they want, and aren’t, like, blushy-shy about it. There’s a lot of characterizations I crammed in as well and, tbh, the jokes still make me chuckle. (Awoo, biscuit, and LET’S TEST THIS PUPPY OUT, being the top three.) That fic was all for me, HAHA!!

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

I wouldn’t say it was a risk… but I feel like I really showed my ass with just might come crashing. I think it’s an indulgent fic, which is not inherently bad, but I wasn’t going to post it. It started as a collection of somewhat melodramatic scenes that I didn’t plan to make cohesive, didn’t make a plot other than “they go up to the mountains and don’t even hang out with each other for the majority of it”. I drew a lot of scenery inspiration from my own mountain trips.

Admittedly, I don’t much like reading “I Love You” confessions in fic, especially during sex. I wanted to play around with what I would consider…. a neat confession, of sorts. Mind you, this is only the tip of the iceberg with that fic.

Oh, and something I learned from all that… I truly believed this was written pretty poorly for an audience (that wasn’t me!). I didn’t think it would get compliments, like, at all. LOL. Imagine my surprise by all the nice things people took the time to say, haha. So thank you to everyone who did take the time.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?

Nah. Just keep chugging along, I guess. I wanna finish foresight, and I wanna write more not-so-sub-but-yeah-he-likes-it!sniper. u_u

My best story of this year

Ooh, a toss up between ARMSTOPPER and hindsight. Unfortunately, my thoughts on hindsight have kinda been tainted by the follow up I’m trying to push though so I think hindsight is a bit of a pain in the ass atm, but ARMSTOPPER also had that same kind of suffering. ARMSTOPPER made me take the biggest victory lap, while I reread hindsight more often just because I do like it a lot.... both of them have Spy suffering so maybe that's the real entertainment for me.

My most popular story

Critical Provocation has a baffling amount of hits to me. Well. Not baffling. But it sure is funny. Thrifty actually has the most kudos as of now, but not by much, and it was written earlier in the year.

Critical Provocation was something I knocked out in, like, two days. Because I saw a funny tumblr shitpost, and also I was determined to write Sniper as a bottom, but not… like… being shy about it? I’m not super into extremely shy-blushy-mewling sexually inexperienced bottoms, especially with Sniper. idk, I think Sniper would really put on a gameface about it. Then I think it’s a really cute narrative payoff when he does break. That’s just my two cents. Anyway critprov was fun to write. I’m glad people enjoy it. perhaps the people also long for confident bottom!sniper..... :/c

Story of mine most under-appreciated, in my opinion

Oughoguh it’s not anyone’s fault but Off the Starboard Bow is another one that I’m super proud of but it combines two very niche Age of Sail fandoms that are quite…………….. quite old. I think it’s nicely written, fun, and true to voice. I miss writing for Temeraire. Granby is also a fun character to write for. Things are always happening to him, all of the time. He should be able to suck dick in peace. Archie also deserves to get his dick sucked. rip archie kennedy you would have loved to be granby's normcore boyfriend.

Most fun story to write

I’ve said this with all bite already so my second choice would be Happy Hour, which I sorta wrote buzzed on martinis and melatonin during an 18 hour flight to South Korea, where I didn’t sleep for 48 hours (had to take a third flight to Jeju). It was the only thing keeping me sane on that wretched plane. I had a woman digging her feet into my thighs so ironically when I do reread the fic, Spy going apeshit on the other spies was just me channeling the same violence, and I think of that unhinged plane lady often.

Editing that fic was wild, let me tell you. There’s so many post-dinner minific parts because I wrote the concept of them on the plane. I wish I saved a screencap of an early draft. Utterly incomprehensible.

Most Sexy Story

Thrifty? I’m not sure on this one. I wrote a lot of oneshot PWPs and all of them have sexy scenes, but I think thrifty hits that spot of having adequate build up throughout the fic, with all the flirting and whatnot, and like.. the payoff sex scene, which I think it is very cute to write sniperspy being super into each other and not so fussy with the physicality of it all (just the emotional). Spy especially putting himself in a less dominant position but still being in control is fun.

Oh. I just remembered gun maintenance as well. Conceptually, that was pretty hot. (gun puns....) Non-explicit build up is what I enjoy writing a lot.

Story with the single sexiest moment

positive reinforcement. Another fic inspired by a tumblr shitpost but

Sniper leaps from his chair, grabbing Spy by the face, thumb and forefinger circling over Spy’s mouth to shut him up. Spy jumps, surprised into reaching for Sniper’s wrists, but it’s been a while since Sniper touched him, and the burning stare is enough to make him freeze in place. Sniper gives Spy’s face a little shake for emphasis. He leans down, fingers digging into Spy’s skin through the mask. “Then. Figure. It. Out.”

lol. I love sub!sniper with all my heart but in those moments when I write him calling the shots, I do have fun with twisting the dom/sub dynamic around. I mean, what’s cuter than teaching your normally calculating attack dog the command to “go feral” on you? :’)

Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story

Nah. All my fics are in the category of “I’m Not Surprised”. hindsight, in fact, was such a ME fic to write. No one should have been surprised about me writing this kind of time travel fic.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters

LMAO, I GUESS THE FIRST TF2 FIC I WROTE AFTER 14 YEARS? barter? I wrote it, got a bit dissatisfied with falling into “oh spy of course gets on his knees and sucks sniper's dick” trope and so I was like… I’m gonna turn the dom/sub dynamic around a bit. and wrote it twice?????? i don't claim to be reasonable. but i think i did make it clear that Spy was running the show the entire time.

Hardest story to write

ARMSTOPPER TOOK ME 14 YEARS TO PUBLISH. Prior to this year, I had not open the document since 2015 but the creation date was 2010. That file has survived three computer changes, all my years of uni, 10 years into my career. that's my teen child. i can get it a drivers permit.

On a more serious note, ARMSTOPPER’s unfinished state was due to a lot of high expectations from myself at the time, combined with me just drifting away from TF2 around 2015. I got into other fandoms! I also wasn’t a deft enough writer to fully pull off with what I thought I had to write. ARMSTOPPER was supposed to be long and plotty with a sex scene, confession, and courting. And I didn’t know how I wanted to end it at the time. And so it languished!

Years later, I opened it back up again and thought what I had written was still good. I’m not sure if it’s really noticeable, but there’s a distinct shift in writing in the middle of the fic where I simply continued where the early 20s me left off. I think towards the later half, it’s just a bit snappier and the narrative humor is sliiiightly different but I think I was able to emulate my older style of writing, which is a wild thing to say, haha.

I also had to pull out an unbelievable amount of meme jokes from the fic. There is a “Deal With It” falling sunglasses meme gesture Spy does at the very beginning and in my heart of hearts I knew I could not totally rewrite over it.

Most disappointing

(puts my hand on ur shoulder) Those Aren’t Posted.

But!! Honorable mention goes to rings around — where I forgot to write an entire scene (THE ENDING I PLANNED?!?) and posted the fic, panicked, and had to, at great speed, write that missing scene in. WHICH IS WAY THERE WAS A WEIRD TIME SHIFT EPILOGUE AOUGHGOGH MY GODDDDDDD. I wrote a different ending (with Carole), which I did not initially plan because I completely forgot my original ending (with Ice). Incredible work, by me. What a blunder. Other than that, I very much like rings around. It deals with my favorite time travel themes of guilt, longing, and a character looking into their future and just simply hating it because they end up being happy, LOL.

Easiest story to write

Critical Provocation. I saw the shitpost “griping and complaining on it” and a demon possessed me. I slapped that one down quick since I was looking for any excuse to write bottom!Sniper being on the inexperienced side but totally up for it. Wrote out the banter I wanted (WHICH SOME ENDED CUT, THEY WOULDN’T SHUT UP ENOUGH TO GET THEIR DICKS OUT..), and then the rest fell into place, thank god. It was a very Point A to Point B type of writing experience.

Fun bonus fact: I have mulled over a pillow-princess!Sniper follow up but I genuinely think I’d write it in such a way where it’d be more like restraint kink than being pampered. Idk, imagine they attempted it and found it lacking.

Biggest surprise

Bruh. TF2. all of them.

But, more seriously just might all come crashing, which I will get more into in the next question. I’m not surprised I wrote it, I’m just surprised I published it since I tend to not post stuff I find embarrassing, lol. That fic was really supposed to be for my own practice and entertainment.

So… what I mean to say is…… JMCC was written …… from the heart and … (grits teeth) very sincerely. Not that my other fics aren't sincere but. Like. This one was….. hrm …this was written with genuine affection and earnestness for the ship. And I truly didn't care to put in any more than what I wanted (hence the gaps). I don't think it's very polished, and the pacing is something I did not focus on. I’m a pretty confident writer, so to put something out there where I’m kinda like “lol, that was meant for me to read myself, not for others” is… eh. Kinda revealing, I guess.

Most unintentionally telling story

Right. Here we go. I’m gonna yap at length about just might come crashing. Because I feel like it’s a bit different from the other tf2 fics I put out there. Like I need to justify myself, lol.

I put a lot of boring themes in that one. Career burnout. Now’s-not-the-right-time romance. His-Happiness-Over-Yours. The importance of time away from something or someone you love (a job, a partner). Being perceived in what you think is the most cringiest way possible (gee..). I love dynamics that play with mutual attraction/awareness of feelings, but both participants actively choose to not go forward for whatever reason. It’s emotional purgatory, and that’s fun to me.

It’s my ideal, self-indulgent version of sniperspy; love as a responsibility you're taking on. Love being a cold little cabin you are caging yourself in, with all these monitors and trackers you aren't using. The one time you do, there's a huge truth being blurted out that you can't beny but you're also not surprised by it. And the only surprise Spy feels is his own deep, unrelenting happiness. He disassociates, compartmentalizes, because he knows he’ll choke on it.

All this, and he still lets Sniper go out for days, freely, despite being lonely, because Spy knows Sniper will come tapping against his window eventually. Sniper is an independent spirit, but he also knows the lengths Spy has gone, and that's also daunting—being invested in someone's happiness that might not be in line with your own. I think, in the end, they are two fundamentally different people that just happened to cross paths due to circumstance. If early on they had met other people more compatible.. I mean. I don't think they're each others' first choices. They both know it.

This isn't even addressing the mercenary careers they both have, and there's a high chance either one of them will find the other dead in a ditch eventually (in THEIR minds, at present). To them, being in love is a burden you take on so you make damn well sure it's worth it.

Then, I suppose after all the mutual pining’s been addressed, they’d deal with it in their typical mercenary way, by being absolutely ruthless with it. For them, being in love is a job, one you can also burnout of. These are two people who take joy, pride, and satisfaction from their careers. They are going to care a whole lot. So, you know, other than that being a completely deranged way of thinking, that’s just their take.

(I touch on this in hindsight, the time travel fic when Spy is having a moment and thinks about the work and effort of a relationship.)

Don’t get me wrong, JMCC is a hopeful romantic fic—but there’s a tragic undercurrent to it, lol. I don’t resolve the career burnout. I don’t have them confess directly. They don’t talk about it. I don’t go into the UFOs. I don’t even write an explicit sex scene. They don’t even see each other for the majority of their two weeks in the mountains. At the end, Spy comments on Sniper being intentionally hurtful. Is it mutual? Yes, it is.

Fourteen years ago I wrote all that matters, which I belatedly realize was kinda the prototype for this, the first iteration of that underlying sadness and the work that goes into maintaining a relationship. There's a bookmark comment on it by nik_knak, "Maybe it's just me, but I myself find it rather depressing, even in the end." Haha, they've nailed it even before I did. Funnily enough, it’s also from Spy’s POV; love as extra work you’re willing to take, and you’re just lucky to have that other person return it, and that you might be happy doing it.

So, yeah. That was a telling fic. The most unintentional part of it was me revealing that Spy is my little meow meow. My sweetie pie. My silly pookie. My dipshit clown dolly I like to continuously waterboard in an iced tub just to see him suffer while I put Sniper into the woodchipper but give him a nice mug of hot chocolate afterwards.

Story I’d like to revise

Brother, once them fics are up I don’t touch them. Unless to fix typos or sentence structure.

Story I didn’t write but will at some point, I swear

This will get me blacklisted but I think about a BLU Spy/BLU Scout with RED Spy/RED Sniper comedy hour fake dating situation a lot. Wherein BLU Scout attempts psychological warfare with his sperm donor, R!Spy, by pretending to date B!Spy, who goes along with it because it would be so fucking funny. R!Spy sees through their plan and doubles down, ALSO pretends that he’s SO HAPPY his SON has FOUND a GOOD GUY to DATE and he hOPeS THEy aRE soOoOoO hapPY tOGeTHer.

In the meanwhile, R!Sniper proceeds to reconsider his life choices. Relationships go down the pisser. RED and BLU teams implode. All because B!Scout and B!Spy are fucking and committed to the bit.

And that’ll be the fic.

Never delete your WIPs. Never say die. If you're not feeling it, put it away. Maybe in 10 years you'll come back to writing and it'll be fun again. Maybe you'll love tf2 again.

Anyway. What a nutty year. I hope to continue the trend! I've got a few more fun sniperspy pwps to finish so I'm actually hoping the first fic for the New Year is either Sniper shaving Spy or being in a maid dress. Who could say. The man contains multitudes.

“Let me help with your tie,” Eddie says, crossing the room to him.

“Thanks,” Chris says, standing a bit straighter to give Eddie a better vantage.

They made sure that Chris got a suit that matches theirs, but isn’t exactly the same. A lighter shade of blue than the navy Eddie and Buck chose for themselves. At the time, navy had made a lot of sense. It was a color that suited them both. It was comfortable for them. It would look nice in the photos taken at the restaurant. Now, with the wedding being moved to a literal firefighting museum, Eddie worries it might look a little too on the nose. But, hey, at this point, there’s nothing to be done.

“You still feeling good about today?” Eddie asks as he works on Christopher’s tie.

“If I say no, are you going to cancel the wedding?”

Eddie freezes.

“Jeez, Dad, I’m kidding.”

“Not funny,” Eddie huffs.

“It kind of was,” Chris says. “You should have seen your face.”

“I’m going to take that as yes, you are still feeling good about today,” Eddie grumbles.

“Of course I am,” Chris replies. “I’m really happy about it, Dad.”

Eddie takes a deep, relieved breath. Not that he was expecting any differently, really. But he wants to keep checking in. He knows it’s emotional, for a kid, watching their parent marry someone else. Even if Shannon has been gone for years, and he knows Eddie is gay, and he loves Buck. It’s still emotional. And Chris is still his number one priority.

“Just making sure,” Eddie tells him, finishing with his tie. “I know there’s a lot of change and we’re moving… But you are still the most important thing in the world to me. And to Buck.”

“I know, Dad,” Chris replies. He steps forward and hugs Eddie.

Eddie’s throat tightens. He wraps his arms around his son, squeezing him tight.

“You’re the best kid in the world, you know that?” Eddie asks him.

“Yeah, you tell me,” Chris replies a little smugly.

Eddie chuckles. “Only because it’s true.”

Later, on the drive to the museum, Eddie’s mother drives in the truck with him and Chris. It’s quiet, as they sit in traffic. In the backseat, Chris has his headphones in and is playing a game on his phone. Eddie has music playing softly. He’s a little nervous, truth be told. Not for any particular big reason, but just with the overall importance of everything. And, honestly, the whole vows thing. He’s not sure how he let Buck talk him into that one. He doesn’t love public speaking, least of all when he’ll already be emotional.

“Eddie,” his mother says as they pull up to a red light. Her voice is quiet enough so as not to reach Christopher over his music.

“Yeah?”

“You’re happy today?” She asks quietly. “This is what makes you happy?”

Eddie feels a wave of frustration. “What are you talking about? Of course I’m happy, Mom. I’m getting married.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t… I didn’t mean to… It’s just that, you didn’t do it because you were happy last time.” She explains. “So I just wanted to ask.”

Well, yes. He’s not recovering from bullet wounds or grieving or on trial for manslaughter anymore.

“Thank you,” he replies tightly. He motions back to Eddie. “This is Eddie. My boyfriend.”

They look at Eddie, then look back at Buck, then exchange a glance. Like they can’t quite believe it. It can’t be that Eddie’s a man. Maddie mentioned to them that he’d be bringing a boyfriend to dinner tonight. So it’s just that Eddie is Eddie and Buck is Buck. And they’re wondering… Well, how? Buck feels queasy.

“Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Buckley,” Eddie says, stepping forward to shake their hands. His voice is carefully neutral. “Good to meet you.”

“Eddie,” Phillip shakes his hand. “Is that short for Edward?”

Eddie blinks. “Uh, no. Edmundo.”

“Edmundo,” Margaret echoes. “How unique.”

Neither of them ask him any further questions. Right. Because they’re genuinely not interested. Eddie realizes they’re not going to ask him any more about himself and takes a step back, returning to Buck’s side with a protective hand on his lower back. Buck wants to apologize for their rudeness. But then he remembers it’s not on him. All they’re here to do is show Maddie they can handle it. Buck can handle it.

Chim steps forward to introduce Albert and Buck tries to let his mind space out. He focuses on the feeling of Eddie’s hand on his back. He’s got this. He can do it. He won’t make a scene. He won’t fall apart. He won’t be the asshole ruining Maddie’s family dinner.

Eddie knew he wouldn’t like Buck’s parents. What he didn’t expect was to find them so… Socially challenged? Over the course of their meal, they really prevent any conversation they’re a part of from flowing normally. It’s like their determination to not pay proper attention to Buck stymies everyone else’s efforts to make the evening normal. When Albert, Maddie, or Chim try bringing Buck into a conversation, they simply pull out of it or change the topic. They have a bit more grace with Eddie, but it’s still painfully obvious they don’t care to hear from him.

It doesn’t really make sense to Eddie. He watches it all like watching a poorly written play, where none of the character motivations are clear. These are his parents. And they don’t even want to know how he’s doing. Somehow, Buck’s own lack of self-regard is becoming a hell of a lot more clear to Eddie. Its origins sitting across from him at the dinner table, trying to avoid eye-contact.

It all sort of comes to a head as they’re finishing eating.

“I’m glad you guys had a nice drive,” Maddie says.

“We saw a lot of the country,” Phillip replies.

“The first few days there was nothing but rain, then we got here, blue skies and sunshine,” Margaret adds.

“That’s California for you,” Buck mumbles. Not rudely. Just… Sort of flat. Like he’s only half here.

Margaret nods away this comment.

“I-I can’t believe you drove all the way across the country,” Albert says. “In an RV! That sounds exciting.”

“Statistically speaking, it seemed the safest way to travel right now,” Phillip says.

“Yeah, we didn’t want to take any chances, given Maddie’s condition,” Margaret adds. “And it being a high-risk pregnancy.”

Maddie frowns at this comment. Eddie holds back a wince.

“Well, no,” Chimney says. “It’s not really high-risk-”

“Oh, she’s over thirty-five,” Margaret doubles down. “That puts her at a higher risk. So we all need to be extra careful.”

It has been without a doubt, one of the strangest weeks of Chim’s life since the end of the world. Which is really saying something. And it’s only Thursday. There’s still a few more days to shake things up even further. Maybe a celebrity will show up next, like Bill Murray in Zombieland. That would be pretty cool.

It’s somewhat alarming to have the population of their little settlement double in a matter of hours. More alarming when one of your original members suddenly announces he’s leaving. Chim feels like his brain and sense of normalcy are going through the spin cycle.

“I’ll be back!” Buck insists, when everyone looks at him like he’s grown a second head. And why would they? For months he’s been talking about his sister, and she’s finally here, and he’s leaving her. “I’m just going to help Eddie find his wife.”

Which is a dangerous task. Although, Chim suspects he understands why Buck is sympathetic to the guy’s quest. Considering the crap he pulled in the name of his own. Yeah, Chim wasn’t thrilled when he heard about the radio. He wasn’t thrilled, but he couldn’t exactly be mad, either.

Chim can’t be mad, because Chim doesn’t know what it’s like. See, the apocalypse - or whatever the hell this is - has been a little different for him than most survivors. Or, what he imagines it’s like for most survivors. The people who Chim would be most concerned about, were they separated, are Hen and Karen. His closest friends. He’s lost everyone else he might leave his safety for. The rest? Well, he’s not certain they’re thinking about him. If they're alive.

The thing is, a little over a decade ago, he ran. After Kevin died, Chim got the hell out of Los Angeles. He saw the job posting for a firefighter-paramedic here in Sunport and he left. Between losing his brother in all but blood, seeing how crushed his pseudo-parents were without their real son, and the less than welcoming situation at his fire station, Chim sort of cracked. He left and he didn’t go back. Maybe he’d have gone back more, if he knew he was on a quickly diminishing timer.

In the time since then, Chim became close with Hen through work. He became friends with his then-neighbor, Karen. He introduced them, and then he became their friend. A strange little extension of their family, when he didn’t really have his own. Uncle Chim to Denny. A go-to babysitter. And, really, he is so, so grateful for the Wilsons. He is. He loves them dearly. He’s glad he’s not separated from them amidst all this and wondering how they are and if they’re alive. He’s not sure exactly why he feels jealous of the people who do have someone to look for. It’s stupid. But he sort of is.

Anyway, Buck is leaving and it creates a whole mess.

Bobby is frantic behind closed doors, but completely calm in front of Buck. It’s enough to make Chimney think he’s watching two different movies play out on separate screens.

“Is he angry?” Bobby asks Chim and Hen, after Buck has told them. “Is this about the radio? Getting himself killed is a stupid way to punish me.”

“Bobby, I don’t think it’s that,” Hen says. “I think he’s trying to be kind.”

“He’s being reckless!” Bobby protests.

“The guy saved his sister,” Chim reminds him. “He feels a debt.” Maybe Bobby would be able to stop Buck from going if he expressed any of his concerns to him. But he doesn’t.

It's been so long since Miss Pauling had a vacation. In fact, it's probably the only time Pauling has had a vacation since she started working for Mann Co. Safe to say... she hasn't minded the long needed breather.

During the state mandated vacation she was forced to take, Pauling visited many places and even did some work. Honestly she's so used to work she doesn't have many friends other than the mercs. In fact... you were the first friend made that she didn't see in work.

She had met you during one of her many stops. Be it a bar, the beach, or a safari tour... you two had managed to cross paths at some point. Speaking to someone new was both a daunting and pleasant experience to her.

Pauling never told you about where she worked. It had nothing to do with you and part of her worries that if she tells you it may affect how you see her. Pauling liked the idea of knowing someone outside of work....

You became great company when she first meets you. While she spends time at her current vacation stop, you bring up topics to ask and chat about. Pauling hasn't had this much fun in years.

All good things come to an end, unfortunately. Pauling had another destination to see and she tried her best to tell you she's on vacation. She worries she won't see you again... then you pull out your phone.

"Ah, vacation from work. A luxury, isn't it? Here... you can have my number. Text me and I'll respond. I hope to see you again!"

Pauling felt stunned all the way to her hotel room. Even there she could only stare at her phone. Why was she so nervous?

Friends share numbers and talk all the time, right?

Pauling wasn't sure why... but the way you were so friendly and asked for her number made her flustered. She knew you didn't mean anything strange by it, you genuinely enjoyed talking to her. Yet a part of Pauling's mind still thought of it as... romantic in a way?

The thought of talking to you, even though it's late at night by the time she gets home, is enticing. Hesitantly, Pauling picks up her phone. Opening her laptop with one hand, she sends a text in the other... and you respond.

Seemingly addicted to reading your little messages... she sends another...

... and another...

... her whole night flies by, the young woman eagerly texting you again and again until you go to sleep. Her original intention was to get some work done. Although... speaking with you felt more rewarding at the time.

In fact... Pauling wanted to know more about her new friend...

Maybe a bit too much.

Pauling thought having your number and meeting up with you on her vacation was going to be enough. You two got along well and she kept thinking about you. Normally work was her form of fun.

Now her definition of fun became you.

She idly sends you texts when she should be busy with enjoying herself on a trip. She often calls you when in her hotel room for hours at a time. You even offer to meet up with her to just to give her company.

It's been forever since she's had this kind of company... and it feels great.

Strangely... this new friend she's made plagues her thoughts more and more. Soon... Pauling realizes all of this isn't enough. Which makes her pop open her laptop...

Research was always the faster way to know about someone, right?

Pauling was making notes about you like you were a project she was assigned. Where you lived, where you worked... she was going to know it all. Her skills in learning private information was a perk she got from her job.

The more Pauling looked into you for days or even weeks at a time... the more the feeling of yearning for you within her grew...

Soon enough, Pauling wasn't sure if this friend of hers felt like a friend anymore the more she knew about them.

Pauling had a feeling she was getting sloppy. Stalking had always been Spy's thing and she was dealing with a lot of stress lately. After all...

Her vacation was ending very soon.

Before she met you this would be fine. After all, she's used to work being her life. Yet now... she doesn't think she could go back to that.

Now... Pauling had you to look forward to. If she went back to her previous life, she may never feel the same. Losing you is a fear she has.

In that case... can you blame her desperate measures? She studied your social media presence and began fo follow you around when she could... not for anything bad! She just... well, loves you.

This must be what love is, right?

"Yeah, it's the strangest feeling. I guess I'm a bit nervous right now." You admit to your newest friend. It's been weeks since you met and you've only just met up at her hotel room.

"That's scary..." Miss Pauling frowns, fidgeting in her lap. "Are you anxious about anything?"

"Not that I know of..." You think for a moment before noticing Pauling's fidgeting. "Are you?"

"Oh..." Pauling sighs. "Yeah... my vacation's ending soon."

"Aw... that sucks." You sigh in sympathy, placing a hand on Pauling's shoulder. "Best you make it count then!"

"Yeah... make it count..." Pauling ponders. She adjusts her glasses nervously before seeing you retract your hand. To your surprise, she quickly grabs it. "I think I know how."

"Oh, really? What's your plan?" You look at Pauling confused, the look only intensifying when she moves to hold your hand.

"I know it hasn't been that long... but I've always wanted to try something...." Pauling confesses. You become hesitant at her tone.

"Try what...?"

"Well, um, my work is so busy that I never have time to date... so I've never thought about it... until now."

You finally understand what she means and pull your hand away.

"Pauling... you're a wonderful women but I'm not looking for anything like that."

You see the look in her eyes. It's a concoction of shock, sadness, betrayal... and what looks like fear. Despite this and her small gasp... she tries to keep her composure.

"Can't we just try? For a little while, at least?"

"I'm not looking for a quick hook up, Pauling."

"We won't have to do anything!" Pauling pleads, standing up as you do. "It's just that, I- uh..." Pauling takes a deep breath. "I must know everything about you!"

"Pauling, please, this is over. I'm not dating you. I don't know you that well!"

"Then you can learn! WE can learn! I promise I'm not lying... I really do love you!"

"I don't doubt that." You huff, walking to the door with a sick feeling in your gut. "I just can't accept such a sudden confession."

You open the door, only for Pauling to grab onto your arm.

"Wait, don't go!" She begs. "You're my everything!"

"This is getting creepy, Pauling. Please, let go!"

"No!"

She quickly pulls you into the room again and closes the door. Fear floods through you and you fight back. Pauling keeps trying to shush you and calm you down.

"You know what, I don't need my job anyways!" Pauling laughs. It's not one like you'd give for a joke... it's hysterical, deranged. "Not when it takes me away from you! I don't think I could live without you...!"

"Let go!" You cry.

"Not when I love you this much..." Pauling growls wrapping an arm around your throat. "I refuse to give you up just to go back to the Administrator and do mindless work again!"

You don't understand what she's talking about, only that there's a strong pressure on your windpipe. You struggle, clawing at her arms and gasping. It's like she's had combat training....

Your air is minimal... soon darkness creeps into your vision and your hearing fails you with a loud ringing. Pauling notices but doesn't relent. Not until you're limp in her arms.

"Don't worry, dear, I promise we'll make it work!" Pauling smiles, placing you on her hotel bed before pulling out her phone and making a call. "Even if it means giving up my job to keep you...."

number 63 is my favourite number so i was keen lol (not bc of pecco, 63 has been my babygirl number since i was a toddler <3)

the original counting says 63 is silverstone: 2013 which i mentioned in my post about it, but so you get a new one, i'll do the other counting (starting at 2013) which makes 63 sachsenring: 2016!

i have not seen sachsenring 2016, but from the gifs it looks like marc

Finished Blazing Blade (FE7) Hector Hard Mode tonight!

Earlier this year, I decided on the long term goal of attempting to finish every mainline Fire Emblem game on the hardest difficulty. There's 8 of them I haven't even played yet (FE1-6 and the two DS games), and most of the games I have I've only finished on easier difficulties, so... there's a lot to do. When they released Blazing Blade on Nintendo Switch Online over the summer, that felt like a good place to start making serious effort towards this goal.

One unfortunate catch, though: I was starting from a new save file. And Hector Hard is unlocked by completing Hector Normal. And Hector is unlocked by completing Eliwood. And I decided I wanted to do Eliwood Hard as well. So in the end I did 4 different playthroughs of the game over the past several months. Suffice to say I've had enough of Blazing Blade for a very long time if not forever, lol. I am NOT going to miss the overly limited deployment slots.

Character and chapter info:

Farina (431 Battles / 271 Wins / 1 Loss)

Girl!

I planned on her being my main late-game carry since before the playthrough even began, and she performed far better than I even expected. She did get a good number of statboosters (Afa's Drops, Angelic Robe, 2 Goddess Icons, Talisman, Boots, Body Ring), but her four capped stats were (aside from Afa's Drops) all capped naturally. She had 18 Defense after promotion! She soloed a ton of late game without any trouble at all.

Florina (309 Battles / 184 Wins / 4 Losses)

Also Girl!

With the help of Lyn Mode statboosters she was my main carry until Farina came along, at which point she was still very useful but was outclassed by What The Hell Farina How Do You Have So Much Defense. Her absurd luck was incredibly helpful against all the Luna enemies.

Oswin (281 Battles / 138 Wins / 1 Loss)

Very lucky Oswin here, with almost every stat being above average. Turns out having an utterly absurd Defense stat is pretty good.

Hector (268 Battles / 116 Wins / 2 Losses)

...Very mediocre. 8 Skill before promotion... that he can't do until there's like 5 chapters left... ow ow ow. This game sure does have some baffling design choices.

Bartre (255 Battles / 149 Wins / 0 Losses)

Was required to use him for full recruitment, but then uhhh what the hell Bartre? What are these stats how are you 4 above average in both Skill and Speed oh my god.

Raven (221 Battles / 134 Wins / 2 Losses)

His level ups were largely not great, but he did get a LOT of Luck levels early on to shore up his main weakness and was otherwise carried by his absurd Hard Mode bases.

Fiora (203 Battles / 133 Wins / 1 Loss)

The least useful of the Pegasus Sisters this playthrough due to her lower strength, but still had a very nice niche with her Res. She got to be my main carry in Eliwood Hard at least!

Eliwood (156 Battles / 82 Wins / 0 Losses)

Pretty good Strength and Speed, though ultimately didn't get used too much.

Marcus (89 Battles / 52 Wins / 0 Losses)

Performed his Jagen role admirably.

Guy (78 Battles / 44 Wins / 0 Losses)

Being my first Hard Mode Bonuses character, I tried to use him, but then he failed to get a single point of Strength in 10 levels and was too weak to keep up.

Lyn (63 Battles / 34 Wins / 0 Losses)

Promoted at Level 17. I tried to use her early (especially thanks to aiming for Linus's Four-Fanged Offense) but her strength and defenses were just too awful to be worth using after that point.

Legault (26 Battles / 11 Wins / 2 Losses)

Yup he sure did steal things while having additional limited combat utility.

Serra (18 Battles / 5 Wins / 0 Losses)

My main staff user until Pent arrived, though she still stuck around whenever deployment slots actually allowed for it.

Pent (12 Battles / 6 Wins / 0 Losses)

Didn't get used much for combat, but he became my main staff user late-game.

Athos (6 Battles / 3 Wins / 0 Losses)

Yup he sure did a good job of "guaranteed final boss kill with Luna and some speed statboosters".

Ninian/Nils (3 Battles / 0 Wins / 0 Losses, combined)

I told myself this would be the playthrough I would actually use the rings more and then I still had barely used them by the time the game was over, oops. Oh well.

Ch11 Another Journey (18 Turns) Took a surprisingly annoying number of attempts, though I was probably being too reckless. Welcome to Hector Hard I guess.

Ch12 Birds of a Feather (7 Turns) Ch13 In Search of Truth (14 Turns) Ch13x The Peddler Merlinus (8 Turns) Ch14 False Friends (10 Turns) Ch15 Talons Alight (8 Turns) Ch16 Noble Lady of Caelin (15 Turns)

Ch17 Whereabouts Unknown (21 Turns) Had one of the soldiers die here because I wasn't expecting them to immediately rush to their death and get ORKO'd by the enemy right outside of the cell noooooooo

Ch17x The Port of Badon (17 Turns)

Ch18 Pirate Ship (12 Turns) Every other playthrough I ended the chapter early by defeating the boss, so it was interesting to actually play it out this time. Did still barely manage to steal the boss's item on the final turn, having to plan it out exactly several turns in advance.

Ch19 The Dread Isle (13 Turns)

Ch19x Imprisoner of Magic (44 Turns) Managed to defeat Kishuna first try, which I was really grateful for given how much time I spent grinding on his morphs beforehand lol.

Ch19x pt2 A Glimpse in Time (19 Turns) Ch20 Dragon's Gate (20 Turns) Ch21 New Resolve (15 Turns)

Ch22 Kinship's Bond (7 Turns) Lost an attempt annoyingly far in because of confusion with enemy ranges, and how it doesn't show that an enemy can attack from a space if another enemy is already standing there (even though said enemy can move or die...). Bleh.

Ch23 Living Legend (33 Turns) Was super worried about the HHM exclusive fog, but then I ended up having a significantly easier time than I did in EHM due to the altered boss locations and them not moving.

Ch23x Genesis (31 Turns) This had a terrifying first impression, but it became significantly easier once I remembered that the Barrier Staff exists.

Ch24 Four-Fanged Offense [Linus] (36 Turns)

Ch25 Crazed Beast (120 Turns) This is the start of massive turn count bloat due to going for supports (mainly Hector/Farina A, and later Eliwood/Lyn A just because). The GBA support system is such terrible nonsense. But anyway, first chapter with Farina, and I took advantage of all the monks that could do nothing to her to grind her to Level 2 promoted. She ended the chapter with 18 defense!!

Ch26 Unfulfilled Heart (12 Turns) Decided to go for the Armory on the final turn, which 18 Defense Farina + Nini's Grace was able to do while surviving Vaida easily.

Ch27 Pale Flower of Darkness [Jerme] (98 Turns). Aimed for Jerme's because I did Kenneth in my EHM playthrough, and Hard Mode bonuses favor the Jerme units regardless. Got Harken because I wanted to try him out with Hard Mode bonuses… and then never used him, but I did at least use his Brave Sword. Another bloated turn count due to supports.

Ch28 Battle Before Dawn (16 Turns) Farina rushed for Ursula and nearly soloed everything in the way, making this chapter easy once reinforcements were stopped.

Ch28x Night of Farewells (98 Turns) Another chapter with Farina rushing for the boss to stop reinforcements, killing Sonia on Turn 3. And then the rest was spent slowly cleaning things up while being terrified of the status staff enemies, and then spending forever to finally reach Hector/Farina A.

Ch29 Cog of Destiny (40 Turns) Florina got unexpectedly hit by a Berserk staff early on, which was terrifying but then none of the enemies around her managed to actually do anything to her.

Ch30 The Berserker (20 Turns) I gave it a decent amount of tries with Hector + Legault to try to steal the statboosters, but had way too much trouble and my strat required a lot of luck so I decided to not bother and cleared it super easily with Hector + Farina.

Ch31 Sands of Time (12 Turns) Warped to and killed the boss Turn 1, making the rest of the chapter mostly fairly simple (...mainly thanks to getting lucky dodges against the status staff enemies).

Ch31x Battle Preparations (6 Turns)

Ch32 Victory or Death (18 Turns) This chapter felt incredibly overwhelming. Farina could take on basically everyone by herself, but there being so many enemies meant she had to return to the main group to restock her weapons, and I also wanted to get every village. I thought the attempt was lost midway through, but I guess there's a 50 enemy limit, so a lot of the reinforcements I was worried about and expecting didn't show up.

Ch32x The Value of Life (33 Turns) Spent most of this chapter feeding kills to Hector because I felt like it, which is how he ended the game at Level 18.

Final Light (20 Turns) Finished off Nergal with an unnecessary Farina Triangle Attack, then killed the Dragon with the guaranteed Athos + Luna.

Total: 949 Turns

Who says both can't happen during the former!? But honestly I would just be satisfied even just meeting my favorite driver(s) once 😭 Also all my favs are 36+, I don't know if it would work out 🫠 (if you remember, the guy I went to the gp with is Fernando's age, and yeah sure I got along w him, but it was also like hanging out with a dad who's not my dad so it's a bit awkward LOL) I think it'd be cool to get to talk to Fernando or Seb but I think I'd kill myself out of embarrassment within 10 minutes. I don't have a succinct answer to this one tbh, bcs its basically two extremes 😭

I REALLY WANT TO!! Last year, I only followed F1 and would check in on Indy and FE every once in a while. But I wanna try and actually follow them instead of just watching them passively every blue moon. Also I really want to follow wec because Mick and Jense are there, but I find it so hard to pay attention to such long races unfortunately. Also rally seems really cool!! Maybe ill convince my brother to go halfsies with me on a subscription lmfao.

I think some things happen for a reason and I think that a lot of life is going through experiences to help you learn lessons but I don't think things like trauma happen for a reason. sometimes people are in a lot of pain and they put that pain onto other people and that sucks but its not like you were destined to go through abuse or anything.

63: I already have changed my name before because i'm trans and I would definitely change it again. I think there's so many cool names that exist and it makes me a bit sad that I can't have all of them. some of my favorite names are Charlie, jasper, nico, miles, Parker, Oliver, and finch.

68: the last person I had a deep conversation with was probably my best friend ace or a person from school named luna both of them are super awesome and I love them lots @lovetobits i'm very excited to go into the new year with both of these people even tho I am not great friends with the person from school but I hope to change that. ace has been my number one silly goose since we met over a year ago on Tumblr we have been through lots of chaos together and I love him with all my heart.

69: despite being a cynical bastard I do believe in soulmates. I think that people were meant to be together wether it is romantic or platonic and I think that there is a person out there for everyone that will truly make them feel loved and understood like no other. maybe soulmates don't exist but even if they don't I still think that there are great people out there who will make you feel really special and important. be nice to people. show love.

Making Music In Pyxel Game Engine

This little manual was written by someone experienced with chiptune trackers like Furnace, but inexperienced with Pyxel. I thought about making this because after a quick Google search there wasn’t much documentation on how to make music in Pyxel. If there’s any incorrect information here, feel free to correct me.

For those who aren’t familiar, Pyxel is a game engine designed to imitate retro consoles. It was developed by Takashi Kitao, lead developer of the Zone of the Enders series. You can run Pyxel in Python or you can use Pyxel Studio, which lets you use Pyxel in your browser. (It seems that the Pyxel Studio website is primarily in French, but you should be able to use it if you only speak English.)

The music and sound effects limitations of Pyxel appear to be inspired from the NES and Game Boy. There are 4 channels. As per usual with NES and Game Boy chiptune music, it is recommended the sound effects be used in the least musically important channel, which is often the channel used for harmony.

Be sure the Speed is set to the same number for all parts of the song. Otherwise, the sections will be out of tempo with each other when played back.

The piano roll allows notes from C1 to B5. The lowest pegs are blue. Blue pegs indicate a rest.

You have 5 wave shapes for timbre: triangle, pulse, square, sawtooth, and noise. From what I can hear, I think the triangle wave is an NES-like, stepped triangle wave instead of a perfect triangle shape. (A stepped triangle has more character to it; normal triangle waves sound very similar to sine waves otherwise.)

A Sound is a small section of the Editor where you can place notes on a piano roll sequencer. There are 6 measures per Sound. You can fit 8 pegs into one measure. You can fill a Sound with a max of 48 pegs.

There are 8 volume levels to assign each peg, labeled 0 through 7, with 0 being mute.

The Music Section is a section of the Editor where you arrange your Sounds into a complete song. There are 8 songs, labeled 0 through 7. There are 32 spots per channel to place your Sounds.

You can create 64 Sounds, labeled 00 through 63. This means that ultimately you are limited to a max of 384 measures (or 3,072 pegs) for both music and sound effects in a game.

It is clear that this is not a composing tool, but a tool you use to arrange the music to Pyxel chiptune format. I recommend composing your music on an instrument or DAW separately and then manually convert the song in Pyxel.

Apparently, it is possible for games to play audio files in Pyxel—and not only audio files but also play them in 5.1 surround sound—as shown by GRASLAY by Ontake44…but I don’t know how to do this lol

5 - How many WIPs do you have? What fandoms/pairings are they for?

All my current WIPs are under the Stranger Things and/or Twilight umbrella.

Necrosis: Diplopia's sequel, a more freeform fic based on the many (...many) wonderful fics I've read. The fic deals primarily with... I'll call it Emily's Involuntary Character Development by Phoenix Wright-Related Means. Posted chapters: 5/?

The Weirdo From St. Valentina's: I know this one was originally a one shot, but someone in the comments flattered me by saying it should be a longfic, and I have more ideas, go figure. So I have another chapter partially drafted and maybe a few more after that? Posted chapters: 1/? (Three or four maybe)

Stranger Things One-Shots: I have a few one-shots I have already written and a few I want to finish/write. As of now I have a total of I think 4 that I have yet to publish, three are done and one I need to finish.

Twilight One-Shots: There are fewer of these, in fact right now I only have one that's in the works, however given that my top priority is the Twilight longfic and I have some of those later chapters done for when I get to them, it evens out. There also miiiiiight be one in the future that doesn't involve Emily at all...

So I don't know how those totals work out. A lot, it's a lot of WIPs.

6 - What is the last line you wrote?

"Lead the way."

Context: Emily says this to a character that she's gonna take a walk with to a location after a very... we'll call it an introspective conversation. I can't say much for spoilers' sake, but this is one of those "later Necrosis chapters."

(I know I posted a one-shot called The Third Rule to celebrate Stranger Things 4's one year anniversary, but technically that was one of those one shots I wrote a while ago, so none of those lines were 'the most recent line.')

9 - Does [word chosen by asker] appear in a WIP?

Crimson - Surprisingly, no lol

Bright - She had just the prettiest, brightest hazel eyes, I could practically see every color imaginable in them.

(That counts, right?)

Under - He hasn't had a singer in 305 years, not since 1593. It's amusing how the humans are still under the impression that the poor man was killed in a bar fight. That's what Chelsea told me, at least.

Dang, those are from the same WIP lol, again, one of my Necrosis chapter drafts (although this one is gonna be on deck soon).

Also I should note the italics are indicating that this is a quote someone is reading. This is a scene of someone reading someone else's writing.

25 - What is your favorite part of the writing process?

Honestly, it depends on my mood. But in general I really like developing characters. Their traits, their relationships, all that fun stuff. It fits together like a nice puzzle and I just get to be creative. Writing aside but in a similar vein, I also like coming up with character concept sketches and making character playlists. Both of those things can be a massive help to the writing side of the equation as well.

26 - What is your least favorite part of the writing process?

...can I say the actual writing part? I mean, I don't hate it, sometimes the act of writing is a huge stress reliever, but the problem arises when I either a) have the motivation but not the time or b) the desire to write but the inability to actually execute the process for any number of reasons. I need to plan more, I don't wanna type, I'm tired and would just rather daydream about the fic... the list goes on lmao.

48 - Who is your favorite character to write for? Has this changed since you've started writing for that fandom?

This is an interesting question since I love writing for all the characters I write for. Some more than others, sure. I mean, obviously I love writing stories about Emily, else I wouldn't keep doing it. But like Emily, I'm very attached to both of her long term boyfriends and love getting to write for both of them. Although I thiiiiiink Henry takes the edge.

It really just comes down to how creative I feel like being on that day. When I'm in the mood to be more creative I like writing for the Twilight characters more since... there's very little canon material to work with, forcing me to fill in the gaps. Giving more depth to characters like Jane or Sulpicia is such a joy, even if it's born of annoyance.

57 - How conscious are you about adding symbolism or foreshadowing in your fics?

Incredibly. I try to make every single thing in my fics very intentional, down to using specific words in simple sentences or dialogue. For example, this excerpt from Diplopia:

If you know, you know, and you know this will be important later... and that it is not gonna be pretty. Foreshadowing is one of my favorite tropes because it gives a fic re-read value to go back and look for hints.

63 - What was the hardest part of writing His Tenebris Moenibus?

Many little things, but it all boils down to balance. Balancing Emily's shitty personality to still make her a somewhat likeable character that you want to keep engaging with. Balancing content and information in the show with keeping the story fresh (i.e. Henry telling Emily his backstory in a different way than he presents it in Episode 7 while still getting the same information across... admittedly in retrospect writing out his entire monologue when we eventually get to the massacre might have been unecessary, but I did it anyways cause I love and adore that scene, sue me). Balancing out how Emily interracts with people like Eddie so her presence in that part of the story doesn't seem forced or weird.

72 - What's your favorite writing compliment you've gotten?

I appreciate and adore every compliment I've ever gotten on my writing since they're all very special to me. Obviously the analysis comments you give me and I get stronger with every "good characterization" comment (I might be able to fight god soon). I even got compliments on Necrosis from someone whos fics I have not only read multiple times but have gone absolutely feral over... It's like publishing a short horror story and Stephen King telling you he felt creeped out reading it.

But I think the greatest compliments I've gotten are from people who've told me my writing changed their outlooks and minds on characters, Henry specifically. You've said this once or twice and I actually got @ohitshoneybee on the full blown Henry hype train... arguably initially because I put him through an emotional ringer with Diplopia and she felt bad for him, but still. This is a character I care about very much, more than I ever expected to, and it gives me a sense of pride that I can essentially make people somewhat see him the way I see him.

77 - Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?

Oh, many reasons. Putting my own creative spin on my favorite fandoms, exploring ideas and adding extra dimensions to pre-existing lore... and making people have emotional breakdowns. Are you really a fanfic writer if at some point you haven't gone full Helmo?

I think the most recent example is the fact that it's allowed me to take my childhood nemesis franchise, Twilight, and give it my own three-dimensional makeover. I basically started with Mopey, Angry, and Creepy with their (remaining) wives, Druggie One and Druggie Two. I put some thought and work into it and now instead of two dimensional, one trick ponies, I have full characters I can mold and play with.

Stephenie Meyer, if you're ever reading this, call me and I can have an entire guidebook whipped up to give your characters a full revamp (no pun intended).

Ha well I overthink things and hurt my own feelings a lot, and managed to do that last week I think? Idk I'm bad with time. But yeah, it just kept spiraling into a lot of self loathing, body insecurity, etc etc., and yeah I ended up crying 😝 It's usually something dumb like that most of the time tbh 😂

27. What was the last book/movie that really impressed you?

Hmmm honestly I think I'm gonna say Wicked. I was pretty obsessed with the musical when it first came out, and I just didn't have faith that they were gonna do a good job with the adaptation (ESPECIALLY since they split it in 2 parts, aka it's much longer than the musical). So my expectations were pretty low. But I was actually really impressed with it!

61. Something you find romantic?

For me I think the kind of romance I like best is the little things? Like good morning texts, remembering little details, random little kisses just because, things like that? Also some of the more traditional romantic stuff like sunsets, stargazing, soft lighting, etc.

63. What are 3 things that irritate you about the same sex?

I can't really figure out how to answer this one because like, everyone is so different? Like there's no negative traits I can think of that applies to all or even most women tbh 🤷‍♀️

1 How many works do you have on AO3?

55, for now. There will be a lot more...

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

516,744 - which I don't know how to feel about. It seems like too little but also like... Woah. I guess it's because I'm so used to read a comma as the symbol that separates full numbers from decimals, so it doesn't really register as over 500 thousand in my brain. Because as soon as it gets into my brain that it's actually hundreds of thousands of words... We're definitely in the woah territory.

3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

First is Favourite Pastime with 63 - and I'm honestly really surprised by this. A Ghostbusters fic?! But I'm also really glad because... I dare say... Favourite Pastime is one of my better fics. It's pretty good.

Second place goes to The Rule of Three with 57, my Star Wars fic. It barely has any chapters, but it's still so popular and I kinda love it. Glad my fic of anger issues and sibling bickering resonated so well lol

Third is My Heart, My Liege, Mi Capitán with 53, which means we're now in song lyric title and OPLA territory and YES. I kinda love Cora's fic, I put a lot of heart into it, so I'm really glad that people like it.

Fourth place is, unfortunately, a Harry Potter fic. I mean, it makes sense. It's one of my biggest fandoms and one of my oldest fics, so it would naturally gather a lot of Kudos but... it's bad! Not this one in particular, this one is still pretty alright, but I have so many better fics that deserve this spot! I have a love-hate relationship with my Harry Potter fics...

Fifth place - and here's the big news - is Golden Spiders - my newest fic! The one I'm currently still working on! This one took off and I couldn't be happier! So thanks to everyone who made this possible <3

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Absolutely, yeah! I love hearing what people think about my fics and I love interacting with my readers. It's really, really great, and one of the things that keeps me going and motivated.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

On AO3 or on Tumblr? On AO3, it would be Die Drei ?? - Squid Game AU. On Tumblr, it's this one. Both Squid Game related, who would've thought?

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

The happiest?! Oh boy, I don't know. I do love a happy ending! But I also love some angst on the way, so... Take your pick! Which of my characters had it best? I think it might be Till Death Do Us Part, for as angsty as it can be? But I dunno, you tell me.

7. Do you write crossovers?

Yes! I've written some crossovers before and I definitely will again. They're always fun!

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I don't know, I don't remember. Probably not but I've received some non-constructive criticism.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yeah, by now I do write smut. But I write it using what I like to call the "Felix Krull Method" (named after a book I had to read for my finals that wrote its sex scenes in such a way), so using lots of euphemisms, metaphors and avoiding full-on explicit language because I just don't feel comfortable writing it like that and because it just wouldn't fit in with my writing style. My style is very heavy on metaphors, comparisons, allusions, so it wouldn't make sense for me to completely switch registers into your typical smut language. To be clear, I don't dislike that sort of register per se, it just doesn't work for me. This may sound like a bit of a weird way to write smut, but I've been told it works perfectly and I think it's fun, so I will keep doing it this way :)

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not a fic but a character. And that's my Harry Potter OC, Asteria Malfoy. I was very salty about it and I still am because I didn't have the guts to put my foot down back then and tell them that they weren't allowed to use the concept and name even if they claimed it was a "reference" to my fic. They should've at least asked permission!

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, not yet. But I plan to translate my Auxiliary AU fics when I reboot them!

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not really, but I've helped work on fleshing out characters and such.

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

My all-time favourite? You can't possibly make me pick! I love all of my OC ships a totally healthy amount and am occasionally overcome by a heavy sense of yearning for them, so... Yeah. Currently very in love with Mihawk/Aurelia and Sanji/Cora though

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Oh girl... Maybe The Rule of Three? Or my Vocalization series? Unless the hyperfixation hits, those are stuck.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Descriptions. Visualization. I love that shit. Also, I'd be willing to claim that I'm good at characterization. You can also trust me to throw in little references for the reader to find :)

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably my indecisiveness. I also need to hold myself by a leash not to rush my relationships. This is especially bad with my OC Cora because, for trauma-related reasons, she reacts badly to being touched and will need some time to ease into it. So, I have to bonk myself on the head every time I want to have her hug and cuddle people because she would not do that yet. Also, I had to stop myself from having her kiss Sanji multiple times because it's just too early for that.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it's great! Adds a bit of realism. I just always get very nervous doing it if it's a language I don't speak because I don't want to make mistakes.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

The first one ever or on AO3? On AO3, it's Die Drei ???, a popular book series in Germany.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

My currently unintroduced OCs ^^" Currently, I really wanna write a Lux/Zoro fic because I love their dynamic

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

I can't answer that because I love so many of my fics! But the longer ones are usually pretty good.

The Wilds Stats Over Time

A visualization of the fics posted in The Wilds fandom on ao3 by month.

Please note that fics were counted for the month that they were most recently updated in (Note 1).

Total number of fics: 2,317

The Data

Findings/ Observations

Total number of fics

The largest amount of fics updated was in January 2021 and May 2022 - 185 and 163 respectively. This was expected since those months mark the release of a new season of The Wilds or the month immediately following the release.

Since the announcement of the cancellation in August 2022 (still not over it), the amount of fics has slowly declined. October 2023 had the lowest number of fics at 18. However, the number of fics updated from month to month has increased since.

The total number of fics updated prior to season 2 (December 2020 to April 2022) was 1183, which is 51% of the total amount of fics.

The total number of fics updated between the release of season 2 and the cancellation of the series (May to August 2022) was 463, which is 20% of the total amount of fics.

The total number of fics updated after the cancellation (September to December 2023) was 671, which is 29% of the total amount of fics.

Average: 63 fics

Median: 50 fics

Ships

Shoni has consistently been the top ship posted in The Wilds. There are three exceptions to this:

May 2022 with leatin at 93 fics and shoni at 87 fics.

July 2022 with both leatin and shoni at 43 fics.

August 2022 with leatin at 55 fics and shoni at 48 fics.

This coincides with the largest number of fics updated (May 2022 at 185 fics) and the announcement of the cancellation (August 2022). Such an outcome is likely due to the fact that Leah and Fatin had so much (romantic) tension in season 2. Because of the cancellation, they were never able to resolve this influencing the increase of fics with them.

Average (shoni, leatin): 42 fics, 22 fics

Median (shoni, leatin): 34 fics, 14 fics

Fluff and Angst

Fluff has been tagged more often than angst in The Wilds fics for the majority of the months. This is consistent with a previous fandom stats post I made that showed fluff as the most common additional tag. 25.5% of fics were tagged as "Fluff". Only 17.1% of fics were tagged "Angst" (source, please note these stats do not consider tag wrangling while data from this post does).

Interestingly, one of the months where angst was more popular than fluff was August 2022, which is the same month that The Wilds was cancelled (fluff at 36 and angst at 38). Also, six of the nine months where angst was more popular than fluff occurred after the cancellation announcement. Seems like we all wanted to suffer more.

Average (fluff, angst): 24 fics, 20 fics

Median (fluff, angst): 19 fics, 15 fics

Percent increase/ decrease of fics from previous month

There have been more percent decreases in number of fics updated than there have been increases. However, the increases have been of a larger absolute value. This is reflected in the average and median listed below.

Average: 9.7%

Median: -11.5%

Notes and Disclaimers

Note 1: I don't use any programs to gather stats; I use filters to find data. Since ao3 does not have a "Date Posted" filter, I used the "Date Updated" filter. This is fine for most fics, but can be a problem for fics with multiple chapters that were posted in various months. Since the data was collected close together, very little or no double counting is expected.

Note 2: I am an amateur (I failed my first year stats exam lol), so take that as you will.

Berrie was born in Central City (Earth-100), they currently live in Central City (Earth-1) and while they like it, she thinks it isn't as good as her Central City

Yeah I think she probably fits her signs (but she really fits her tarot card)

Eoland will have a cup of coffee and some fruit alongside the superfood she created to give her the calories she needs

like most millennials, Aria enjoys a good iced coffee and avocado toast

Berrie will eat like 2 full boxes of Eggo waffles without stopping

H Wells doesn't eat breakfast most days but she does start every day with coffee

Aria is an iced latte every day kind of girl but in the evenings she winds down with some Moroccan mint tea

Berrie doesn't like how bitter coffee is usually so she'll drown it in sugar or they'll just have a hot chocolate

H Wells drinks way more black coffee than she should, her daughter is constantly trying to convince her to at least switch to tea some of the time if not just water

Eoland is definitely an introvert, she doesn't let anyone in ever

Aria is also an introvert who hates people

Berrie is an extrovert and trusts people perhaps a bit too much

Vice is an ambivert, they're extremely extroverted in small groups but in larger settings they're much more subdued

Eoland is very stubborn about some things and usually well convinced she's the most intelligent person in the room but she does still enjoy and want to learn

Aria is extremely stubborn; she's right, you're wrong, deal with it lol

Berrie is open-minded and inquisitive for sure, he loves to learn anything he can, she's a major nerd

Vice is open-minded most of the time but he sometimes gets stuck on things that they're absolutely certain they're right about

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FAMILY WITH MOTHER, FATHER, SON AND DAUGHTER — how many people are in your oc’s immediate family? how many people are in your oc’s extended family? do they have aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc? who in their family are they closest with? are they close with their birth family, or do they have a found family?

Eoland murdered her parents and younger sibling when they got in the way of her plans and, as she's currently living in the past, she doesn't have contact with any of her extended family - at least not as a family member

Aria visits her mother and half-sister in Morocco whenever she has the opportunity but she keeps her distance from her extended family unless absolutely necessary

Berrie only knows their father, Eobard - she knows she has another parent out there but he hadn't even considered finding out who it was until after they already knew

H Wells has no living parents or siblings but her daughter is the most important thing in her life
