It’s.. fascinating in a brand new way (a terribly disappointing way) to see HoYo fumble the bag this fast.
I was contemplating making a post about this a day or 2 ago, mostly about the Natlan explosion, but then Moze’s drip marketing happened… and suffice to say I think there’s a bit more substance for me to comment on 🫠
I’ll start with Natlan and try to articulate the thoughts properly, since both my own thoughts and my intake of others’ views has had a couple days to settle in my mind:
I wanna preface with the fact that I love Hoyoverse. I really, really do (I desperately wanna work for them, actually, lol. It’s a dream of mine). And I think that’s obvious to people who have seen a couple of my posts.
But it’s precisely because I love them so much, hold them in such a high regard, and respect mostly everything about them, that their recent performance has just left me deeply…. Disappointed.
Sheer, RAW disappoinment makes up the bulk of my feelings and attitude towards what they’ve been doing recently: which is not listening to their community where it REALLY matters. I was present when the uproar over Sumeru happened. I was disappointed then too, but at that time I more-so existed as a confused outsider observing what was going on (I am a poc but not SWANA). Everything about it — from the large-scale disrespectful mix of many cultures, to the 💀 TERRIBLE idea to not pronounce Tighnari’s name correctly AT ALL, to the abhorent lack of melanin in characters (that are DIRECTLY inspired by figures hailing from African countries) — was… bad. REALLLYYY bad. But I’ll be honest when I say: the way I rationalized it in my brain was “Well, they did add more dark-skinned characters to the roster! I guess this is just their version of ‘darker skin’ ” (which, by itself is already a terrible thing BECAUSE they take care to try and represent real world cultures faithfully).
So the fact that it’s happened again. And worse (SOMEHOW⁉️⁉️) is something that’s making me realize how lackluster it was before. And I am desperately rooting for a change. Fool me once, shame on me type shit genuinely.
Now.. in regards to Moze (Star Rail)’s EN VA 🫠. Everything I know about that man I learned in the past 24 hours. So all I will say is that EVEN if he’s worked to better himself, having been BLACKLISTED from the industry (BECAUSE THE CRIMES WENT ON FOR A DECADE!! MIND YOU) means it is way too fuckin soon to hire someone like that again 💀. They took action against Tighnari’s original VA, so that they’ve done this now is… weird…??? I’m just really confused, yo.
Edit, as of July 25, 2024: Chris made a post on his twitter claiming he has chosen to step down as the VA. 🫡 Step 1 is a W, congratulations everyone 🎉

HEADCANON: This is more of a projection headcanon.
So, during the time when Master Splinter forced April to stay down in the sewers for her safety. She’s got really, and I mean, extremely pale-skinned. I headcanon her skin color is pretty much olive with mix of a cherry blush. Or, in other words, like a saltine cracker in the shade or close up in front, but a slightly peeled cherry. Up in the sun, or from a distance, I mean. Especially on her feel/ankles she looks more like strawberry, but up to her hands/face, an olive.
Durning the time, of her, well… “quarantine,” the gradual shift of her olive skin become paler and more… pink yellowish. Donnie noticed this a lot faster than she did herself, until she noticed her looming over her hand. She started to shift it around, not remembering looking so palish, and wondered if she was coming down with something. “Actually, it’s the lack of vitamin D, April.” A goofy-sounding voice woke her from her worried state. (Headcanon that 2012 Donnie has a good, or decent-ish emotional intelligence to know when somebody’s worried about something, and is usually great at guessing what the cause is due to the scene.)
Here she thought, she had the flu or something. Yet, every sign in her body and how she felt quickly dismissed the theory as fake and self-proclaimed. Donnie quickly invites her to enjoy the sun for a few moments before Master Splinter gets annoyed and scolds the both of them for not being careful and reckless.
For the time-being of her being locked up inside the sewers, the boys turned it into a little game or break and getting away. They need some sunshine, too, so for about 15 to 30 minutes every other day, they’d take turns hanging out with April. Some off-screen quality time and bonding with her newfound family. :))
Oh, just to add onto that, before she got her 30 minutes of vitamin D; she was getting dizzy easily. From the lack of sun, and real light exposure. Making her feel a bit lightheaded from longer periods, and the turtles’ food habits aren’t the healthiest.
Also, because Master Splinter had been a rat for sometime, (decades, not feeling the disrespect to assume) he almost forgot that April is human, and needs the sunshine to feel healthy and less likely to feel sick or dizzy. So, another headcanon, he allows her to sunbathe around the sewers’ light shacks or water thingies. I forgot what they’re called.

Swap Beyond the Crystalverse Chapter 7: Banished Fae
Co-written with @crystalninjaphoenix Read Swapboys | Read Crystal’s AUs
Other Multiverse Stories: SITCV | SATCV | GITHV SBTCV Masterpost
Bro lands in a small living space. Its size is close to an apartment, but judging by the staircase leading to a second floor, and the half-open sliding glass door showing a backyard, it's a house. Just a very small one, a cottage, maybe. An older one. The floral wallpaper is peeling, and the wooden floors are dirty, especially around the front door and glass door. There's a small kitchenette in the corner right of the glass door, its appliances looking old, stains on the stove and rust on the metal cabinet handles.
Bro has landed right in between a sagging sofa and a TV stand with a box of a television on it. Looks like this place is in the middle of being fixed up. There are cleaning supplies all over, including a big mop and bucket next to an ajar door leading to a bathroom. There are bags of groceries on the kitchenette counter, everything perishable put away. And it looks like someone's trying to hook up a more modern game console to the old TV.
Bro looks around the new space in confusion. Huh… cozy little place. Wonder who’s staying here?
Voices come from through the glass door. Three of them.
"The tulips are great, but you really need more variety. Oo! Have you ever heard of peonies?"
"Oh! We could dig up the ground in this spot and put in a water feature with lilies and such!"
"Do all of you guys have such strong opinions on flowers?"
"Not that strong, but stronger than you."
"Well I'll look into peonies, but I'm not tearing a hole in the ground."
"Awww."
Bro  blinks as he hears the chatter outside. …so much gardening talk- he’s never really been into that kinda stuff. All of this goes straight over his head.
"I'm getting thirsty," says one of the voices. "I think I'll go back in to get a drink. Do you two want anything?"
"Mmm. Yes, I will get a soda."
"I don't want anything, but I'm coming anyway!"
"Hah. Okay, okay."
Sounds like the three voices are going to come into the cottage.
Bro freezes- ohhh this is always the awkward part! …he really should just stay out to see what he’s dealing with but- god he doesn’t want to scare these guys either! He frantically looks around as if something around him can give him an answer on what to do.
There's really not much in this cottage living room at all. If he wants to leave there's the staircase, the ajar bathroom door, another door beneath the staircase that probably leads to a closet. There aren't any knickknacks or anything--just the cleaning supplies and groceries.
And then someone walks in through the glass door. A man in a long brown coat, square glasses hiding his eyes. He stops shortly over the threshold, seeing Bro, and gasps.
Someone else starts walking in after him--a man in a blue shirt and snapback cap, with a thick beard--and the first man suddenly covers his eyes. "Gah!" the second man shouts. "Schneep, what the hell?!"
"Don't look, Chase!" the first man says. "A doppelganger is here! Looking like you!"
"The fuck does that mean?!"
Bro is too overwhelmed with decisions that he ends up yelping in surprise as the brown coated guy- obviously Schneep covers other him’s eyes. Huh- blue… he doesn’t wear a lot of blue that’s more of Alt’s color. He grins and waves awkwardly, “Ahhh hello! S-sorry kinda just- felll in here! How’s it going~?”
"You will not find anything here!" Schneep says, looking awfully fierce. "How did you get in without an invitation?!"
"For fuck's sake, Schneep!" Chase pushes Schneep's hand away. "Yknow, the fact that he is in my house without an invitation means that he's not a fucking doppelganger!" He looks at Bro. "Though, uh... you do look a lot like me..."
“I mean… doppelgänger is good way of putting it?” Bro says meekly, rubbing the back of his head. “I… I am you- I’m Chase Brody from another universe… surprise? Also what’s this about invitations??”
Chase blinks. "Uhhhhh... what?" He looks at Schneep. "Do you two know anything about this? Other universes?"
Schneep shakes his head. "I have never heard of such a thing... though some say there are other worlds out there."
There's a sudden streak of red, flashing from behind Schneep and moving towards Bro!It's so fast, that even with his super reflexes, he can't stop a heavy weight from landing on his shoulder.
Bro blinks in confusion then yells out as the red streak knocks into his shoulder and throws him off balance. “What the hell?!”
"I don't think he's a fetch," A voice says right by his ear. "It's too perfect-looking." And then something tugs on the rim of said ear. "And this isn't a glamour."
“Ow!!! What the heck??!” Bro cries out and swats at his ear, “the fuck is a fetch?? What are you??”
"Ah fuck!" Bro hits something solid and something red goes spinning to the ground.
"Jackie!" Chase gasps, starting to hurry over there.
"I'm fine!" The red thing stops spinning and rises back into the air. It's... a tiny person. Eight inches tall, with insectile wings on his back, beating swiftly. He's wearing a red outfit, with a hood pulled over his head, and has dark markings around his eyes, a bit like a mask.
Bro’s blinks rapidly and looks at his hand in confusion. Then he sees the tiny person flying in front of him and his jaw drops. He points at the fairy with wide disbelieving eyes. “…what in the fucking world…?!!! Y-You’re A fucking fairy?!”
The little man glares at him, rising to his eye level. "Yes. And you just smacked me!"
"You did land on his shoulder without permission, Jackie," Schneep points out.
"I had to check that he was safe!"
“I-I’m sorry! When something just talks in your ear like that it freaks you out!” Bro defends himself.
Chase sighs. He looks at Bro. "I know. It's fucking insane, isn't it? You have no idea the crisis I had when I first found out."
But Bro blinks even more like this will help him make sense of what’s in front of him. “…this is sooo fucking weird oh my god-“
"God, I know, right?" Chase shakes his head. "I mean... you saying you're from another world is also weird."
Jackie flies over and lands on Schneep's shoulder, sitting down. His wings fold, and as he turns around, looking around the room, Bro can see a shell on his back partially covering them. A red shell with black dots. "I don't see any sign of break-ins, and if he was of the Good People he'd need an invitation. So he's human. And he's probably friendly."
“…bro are you a ladybug??” Bro asks, completely missing what Jackie said.
"I'm a ladybug in the same way you're a monkey!" Jackie says, folding his arms.
Bro flushes and waves his hands, “I-I didn’t mean anything by it! J-Just observing!”
"Calm down, Jackie, he means nothing of it," Schneep says.
Jackie sighs. "Yeah. I'm like a ladybug."
Chase walks over to the fridge and opens it up. "What did you want, Schneep?"
"Cola."
"Got it." Chase grabs a couple cans then looks back at Bro. "Want anything?"
Bro blinks over at Chase then shakes his head, “Uh no thanks-“ he then looks back at Jackie and Schneep. “…uhhh do you mentioned… invitations and uh.. good people. And that I’m human- which I am! …kinda? I’m also like- a superhero so that’s a dubious area-“
"You know--the Good People. The Fair Folk. The Fae." Jackie grins. "Like us."
"Not me!" Chase hurriedly adds. "I'm human. And you're a... superhero?" He laughs. "Man... okay. Sure. That might as well happen.”
“Ohhh the fair folk!” Bro says, brightening. “I kinda know about them! Mostly just… fairytales my Emmy used to tell us!”
Schneep walks over to Bro. "I am sorry for snapping at you earlier," he says. "I thought you were here to hurt Chase." He holds out his hand, smiling. The cuff of his coat is wet, like he'd recently washed his hands.
Bro blinks and then waves Schneep off and shakes his hand, “No problem I get it! I hate that when I come into a new world it’s usually by accidentally intruding- I don’t try to do that normally!” He laughs.
"So this is a usual thing for you, then?" Chase raises an eyebrow.
“By now it is,” Bro grins, “me and my brother are regular multiverse travelers now!” He points his thumb to himself cheekily.
Chase walks over to Schneep and hands him a can of soda. "Well uh... guess I should... explain some things? You're in this tiny town called Díbeamha, in Ireland. And uh... there are a lot of strange creatures living here."
"We do not have many other places to go," Schneep says, opening the can with a hss. "For various reasons. They depend on the individual."
Bro nods to Chase, “Oh Ireland! Man- I haven’t visited here in a while…!” He laughs. Bro then tilts his head at Schneep and narrows his eyes slightly, “…you said we- are you also a fae-something-creature-thing??”
Schneep pushes his glasses up. "Well not exactly. The Good People are native to these isles. I am, as you can hear, German. But yes, I am not human. It's easier to lump myself in with the ones from here. Like this little pisky here." He reaches up and taps Jackie's head with his pointer finger.
"Hey, you're going to ruin my hood!" Jackie complains.
"Schneep got kicked out of his home, like... really kicked out," Chase says.
"I do not mind. The rest of my people are monsters."
“Oh,” Bro says simply, blinking at Schneep. He tilts his head at him, thinking. “…if you’re not human, then what are you?”
Schneep hesitates. "My people are called nixie. Nix, for just one. You may not have heard of them." He takes a drink of his soda, not explaining further.
“No I… don’t think I have. Huh…” Bro says, making a face. “My aunt and Emmy were both very Irish so that’s what I usually know of…”
"Aaaand Jackie's on some sort of probation," Chase continues. "Eternally waiting to come back."
"It'll happen!" Jackie says defensively.
Bro blinks at Jackie, “…isn’t eternity, like, forever though??”
"Chase was exaggerating," Jackie says.
"I was," Chase confirms. "I don't think fairies live forever... but they do live really long."
"I... might've been here for... a couple decades," Jackie says slowly.
Bro laughs a bit at first- but then his face falls, “oh I… I’m sorry Jackie. It must be hard… to not be able to go home.”
Jackie rubs the back of his head. "I mean... it's not that long. But... yeah. It sucks sometimes. I-I'm really glad that I found this place to stay in the meantime."
"Anyway... you have a brother?" Chase asks. "Huh. I don't have a brother. Or, uh... any family. Is he here now? Or are we going to have to prepare for him falling from the sky?"
Bro laughs, “He’s probably around this city somewhere if I had to guess. We travel through these worlds together- if you guys have any other friends you know- he might have fallen over by them.” He says casually.
"Hmm." Chase frowns. "Marvin or Jameson, then? Where are those guys now? They didn't show up for gardening help."
"Eh. You know those two, they're not interested in that sort of stuff." Jackie leans back against Schneep's neck, and he unconsciously leans his head away so the ends of Jackie's wings don't tickle him. "They might be out in the forest, in Kilearney's, or maybe shopping somewhere."
"We can go look for them," Schneep says. "Díbeamha is a small place. It will not take long. And if your brother was nearby, they will probably be helping him find you in turn."
“Most likely- we got something we need to find here,” Bro explains, “We had this thing we used to travel the multiverses easier but it got broken and the pieces broke off into other worlds. We gotta try to find them all before a really bad guy tries to stop us.” He pauses and makes a silly thinking face. “…that sounds like a plot to a kids cartoon or something-“ he laughs. “But yeah he’s probably with those two! We usually end up around you guys~” he grins.
Chase laughs. "Dude, sometimes I think my life sounds like a kid's book, I know how you feel." He takes a swig of soda. "Well, guess gardening is on pause. Walk around town time."
"Yay!" Jackie looks over at Chase and smiles. "You sound so excited to go out!"
"Hah. Well, this is a lot of excitement, isn't it?" Chase smiles a little. "Alright. Let's head on out."
-----------
Alt falls for a bit, and then lands somewhere outside. He's standing on an old stone bridge, arching over a small river. In one direction, a single-lane road extends into the distance. To the other direction... is a town. The buildings are spread out, old-fashioned in their style. The road heading this way is cobbled stone. If it wasn't for the telephone poles, he might think he's back in another medieval world. It's a nice, sunny day. The stream babbles cheerfully as it passes by.
"Quaint little place," Anti comments. "This world is UA-0703020BF, according to IRIS. Seems fascinating."
Alt shakes himself off then blinks at the surroundings. “Wow- it’s so…” he laughs at Anti’s description, “Yeah quaint. Say if the TRVLR is still broken how do you know what world is which?” He asks
“I hacked IRIS’s database in preparation,” Anti says. “Sam helped with matching them up. That does mean there’s a risk I’m wrong, since your TRVLR was from another world, but I’m sure I’m right. I even memorized some nearby worlds, just in case.”
“That’s dedication to the cause, man. I gotta give you props!” Alt laughs.
There’s a loud mrow. And suddenly a cat hops up onto the wall of the bridge. Holy shit. That’s a big cat. Even if the fluff is making it look bigger, it’s still about the size of a golden retriever. It’s almost completely black except for a big white spot on its chest, and it stares at Alt with unblinking green eyes.
Alt jumps at the sight of the black cat- momentarily panicking thinking it’s on my mag’s panthers-! But this one, while huge, isn’t as big as those guys. He stares in wonder at the cat. “Woahhh… uh- hi kitty?” He waves.
The cat tilts its head and loafs.
Alt’s heart melts and he prowls closer, offering his hand for it to sniff, “Ohhh you’re so pretty! Can I pet you?” He coos.
The cat leans forward and sniffs Alt’s hand. It seems to find him friendly, and pushes its head towards Alt’s hand.
Alt beams and quickly starts to give the cat all the best pets, cooing softly to it, “oh you’re so big and fluffy!! How’d you get so big huh? You’re adorable!”
Then there are footsteps. A man is walking towards the bridge, towards the town. He stops, seeing Alt, and for a moment he looks shocked, then relieved. This man is wearing a dapper outfit, with a vest that ripples in shades of red and orange, and has a very distinct mustache. He tips his hat—gray with a red ribbon around it—in greeting.
Alt blinks up as the man addresses him- and recognizes this must be the Jameson of this world. He smiles and waves with one hand- the other still petting the cat.
The man--Jameson Jackson, of course--walks up onto the bridge. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small notepad and fancy-looking pen, writing down something and showing it to Alt.
Hello. I think you're new in town, right? My name is Jameson, what can I call you?
Alt blinks and finally stops petting the cat and smiles at Jameson. “Hi, I guess I am new, huh? you can call me Alt.”
Jameson smiles and writes down something else. Nice to meet you, Alt! What brings you to Díbeamha?
Alt hums, sticking his hands in his pocket, “Oh I’m looking for something here. And my brother too- but we just got separated so I’m sure I’ll find him soon.” He looks out at the town, “Guess this place is small enough you guys don’t get a lot of travelers huh?”
Jameson shakes his head. No, not at all. Everyone pretty much knows everyone. Do you need help finding your brother? I can show you around. After Jameson shows Alt the writing he reaches out and scratches the cat beneath the chin. It starts to purr.
Alt smiles, “I mean- I guess I wouldn’t mind if you’re not busy. He’s pretty easy to spot- especially if you guys aren’t used to strangers.” He grins more as Jameson pets the cat, “This is a pretty big cat- do you know its story? I’ve never seen one this big before!”
Laughing silently, Jameson writes something else down. He's a special breed. You'll see him around town sometimes, no owner or anything. Don't worry, he's harmless. Unless you're unkind to him, of course. Jameson jerks his head towards town, as if to silently ask, 'shall we go this way?'
Alt looks down at the cat, “Huh… neat.” He smiles then starts to follow after Jameson. “Oh by the way- I know sign language if that helps. Should have… said something sooner-“ He laughs sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
The cat hops down, trotting after them. Jameson looks at Alt in surprise, then laughs again silently. He puts the notepad away. That does help, thank you! he signs.
Alt chuckles, "No problem, must be a bitch to write to everyone!"
There are a few people out walking around. No cars. Doesn't look like there's many of those in this town. Some of them wave at Jameson as he walks by, and he waves back.
As they walk, Alt looks around the village and is surprised. "... this is a very small town. I mean... feels Irish so i guess that tracks but... this feels like abnormally small..."
Jameson blinks. It feels Irish because it is. He chuckles. Did you forget you were in Ireland? Or did you somehow arrive here without realizing? Still, you're right. This place is tucked away. It's nice.
Alt flushes and laughs awkwardly, "Ah- well... k-kinda the second one. I kinda just.... fell in here."
Jameson stares at him for a moment. He tilts his head thoughtfully. From where?
"Uhhh... a parallel universe?" Alt grins nervously. Might as well rip the bandage off.
Whatever Jameson was expecting to hear, it clearly wasn't that. The cat, still walking next to them, lets out a long mrrrow and Jameson glances down at it, nodding as if in response. He looks around. I feel like we need to sit down to discuss this, he says.
"Yeahhh- that's fair." Alt sighs.
In here, this should work. He heads to a building with a hanging sign reading Kilearney's. The mugs on the sign show that this is some sort of pub.
Jameson opens the front door, causing a bell to chime, and a voice from inside calls out, "Ah, Jameson! Please, come in, lad." Jameson then steps inside.
Alt looks around the pub with interest- god a drink sounds good.. but he has to make sure he stays on task too. He blinks over at the voice, trailing behind Jameson.
The interior of the pub is pretty typical for a place like this. Heavy wooden tables, rafters crossing the ceiling, and a bar up against the right wall. There are some posters decorating the walls--but the main decoration is the huge-ass crossbow mounted near the ceiling. The pub is empty except for two people behind the bar. An older woman wearing an apron, her brown-gray hair held back behind a red-brown scarf. And a younger person with long white-blonde hair and big black eyes.
"Oh? You're new," the woman says to Alt. "Friend of Jems'?"
Alt grins nervously and hides his face partly in his mask. "U-Uh yeah- just... sorta wandered into town. N-Nice place you got here?"
"Thanks." The woman nods. "Call me Meabh. I'm the barkeep. This is Zephyr." She jerks her head at the younger person. "He works here. Can I get you anything?"
Alt nods his head in greeting. “ah I think me and Jameson just needed a good place to talk-“
The bell chimes again as the door opens. A man stands on the threshold, wearing a black jacket over a white shirt, black jeans, and black boots. There's all sorts of silver and gold bracelets along his arms, and his shoulder-length brown hair has a few small braids in it.
"Ah, Marvin, come in," Meabh says.
"Thanks." The man--Marvin--walks in, and looks at Alt. "Hi."
Alt blinks at the new person and awkwardly waves, “Uh- Hi.”
Don't worry, Marvin is a friend, Jameson says. But he's not very good at acting like a person.
“…what’s that supposed to mean?” Alt asks with a confused face.
Marvin makes a face at Jameson. He walks over to the bar. "Usual?"
"Yep." Maebh turns back and starts making a drink. "Don't knock the cup off this time."
"That was an accident."
Alt laughs, “Ha! You’re making him sound like a cat!”
"Heh. I am, aren't I?" Maebh smiles a bit smugly, and Marvin rolls his eyes.
Jameson gestures for Alt to come sit down with him at a table. So... a universe? he asks. What do you mean by that?
Alt then blinks and follows after Jameson. He sighs and removes his mask from his face and talks with his hands as he explains, “Well- me and my brother… we’re people from a different world altogether. Like- in comics when you meet your alternative self that’s you but also not you. That’s us- …if you know anyone named Anti… that’s who I am.”
I've heard of comics like that, Jameson says slowly. My friend Jackie is a big fan.
Marvin sees him say this and laughs. "'Big' fan."
Yes, yes, it's very funny. Jameson gives Alt another look, thoughtful. I did think you looked like him... but you're clearly not. You're... human.
Alt blinks in confusion at Marvin then back at Jameson. He seems to relax a bit that there's no instant hostility. "... kinda? I'm... mostly human, I think. But I'm also well..." He glitches back across the room and then back into his seat in a bright flash of green, a flurry of pixels bouncing off him for a second. "...I'm magic."
Jameson gasps, eyes wide.
Marvin whistles. "I've never seen magic like that before!" he says. "You two?" He looks back at Maebh and Zephyr.
"Not in all my days," Maebh mutters, handing Marvin a drink in a soft orange color. Zephyr shakes his head.
That... definitely lends claim to you being from some other world, Jameson says slowly.
Alt grins sheepishly, “I’m… kinda an outlier for most magicians in my world… cuz I’m also known as a Glitch. But that’s… complicated.” He shakes himself out, letting himself fizzle and pop with glitches now that he doesn’t feel like he has to hold back. “So… by what you said about other me- this world's Anti… is he not human or… well considering everyone’s not more freaked out I guess non- humans and magic are more prevalent here?”
The four others in the room exchange glances. Clearly, they're wary about something.
"Zephyr, how do you feel about him?" Marvin asks.
Zephyr walks around from behind the counter. Suddenly, he's really close to Alt, leaning onto the table. He quickly reaches out and touches Alt's hand. Then, just as suddenly, he's backing up.
He's good, Zephyr says in sign language.
Alt glitches back as Zephyr approaches then glitches even more and kinda hides behind his chair. “hey what the fuck??” He bites out. “What was that for?”
Well... that was no doubt really confusing for him, Jameson comments.
Zephyr also shrinks back in turn as Alt snaps at him.
"Hey! Leave off him!" Meabh says defensively, baring her teeth.
Everyone calm down! Jameson hurriedly signs. We're all friendly here. He sighs. I suppose you all should have ASKED before suddenly approaching.
Sorry, Zephyr signs.
Alt fizzles and pops, “I-I just don’t like being touched by people! Especially strangers!” He defends, crouching behind the chair, sparking a bit.
Sorry, Zephyr says again, looking guilty. I... don't like that either. But I wanted to be sure you were safe.
Alt nods to Zephyr, “I-It’s okay… just a bit of warning I-is good…”
"Zephyr is a... let's say he knows what people are like," Marvin says carefully. "And if he says you're good, then you're good. We can probably trust you."
Alt starts to relax as Marvin explains , “oohhhkay?” He says in confusion.
Meabh sighs and starts polishing a glass.
To answer your question, Alt... magic is prevalent, but non-humans not so much, Jameson says. Except in certain places. This town being one of them. You are... actually the only human in this room right now.
Alt’s eyes widen as he looks around, “wait seriously??? None of you are human?!”
"Not-a-one," Maebh says casually.
Jameson tilts his hat back, and--holy shit, how did Alt not notice before? His ears are pointed. And his vest--it's not some shimmery fabric, it seems to be made from vivid autumn leaves pressed together.
Marvin also pushes back his hair. His ears are similarly pointed, though with some tufts of black fur at the tips.
Alt turns to look at eveyone and starts to take in the details but he’s still confused. “Okay uh.. ears- I guess those are pretty inhuman… but what are you all like… elves then? Like dnd?”
Jameson shakes his head. Not like that game--though that game is quite creative. "Elves" to us means little people, one to three feet tall.
Marvin takes a sip of his drink. "How much do you know about Irish folklore?"
“A decent amount… my mum and Emmy are Irish,” Alt says, “Emmy used to tell me and Chase folktales as bedtime stories. Plus we grew up in Dublin…”
"Well you'll know all about the People of the Hills, then," Marvin says, grinning. "Surprise! That's us."
Alt’s eyes widen, “…fae- you’re all Fair Folks?”
Jameson smiles. Exactly. Though not everyone in town is--in fact, most are human. But everyone knows about the ones who live here. Even if they don't... KNOW know, if that makes sense.
"Though the four of us are different," Marvin says. "Jems here is the only gentry--you know, the traditional human-like ones."
Alt nods but then knits his eyebrows together, “…maybe I don’t remember as much as I think… cuz aren’t gentry like… nobility?”
Jameson purses his lips. ...techically. But there are... levels. And it's very possible for one to... lose favor.
Marvin hisses, narrowing his eyes. His ears move, lowering. "Pricks."
Alt blinks a bit more in confusion. “So you’re like… fae nobility?”
Before that can be explained, the bell at the door chimes, and a man in a snapback cap walks in. "Oh hey! You guys are here!"
And behind him--is Bro.
Alt jumps and glitches back as the door opens then he grins as he sees Bro. “Chase!”
Bro grins wide too, “Yooo! We getting drinks?? Fuck yeah!” He sees Jameson and Marvin and waves, “Sup?”
All four of the guys snap towards Bro. Marvin hisses again. "Is that a fucking fetch?!"
"He is not a fetch!" Schneep is still standing on the threshold of the pub even as Bro and Chase walk in. "We already went through that, he is human."
Alt narrows his eyes at the hostility towards his brother, glitching a bit. But, he deflates quickly as the others do.
Maebh bows her head in his direction. "Welcome in, doctor."
"Jackie is here too."
"Him too."
Schneep nods and walks over, joining Alt and Jameson at the table. Huh, that's weird. There are a few puddles of water that follow him, like he was dripping. But he looks completely dry.
“Man, these fetch guys must be real trouble-“ Bro comments as he walks over to Alt to sit at the table.
"Fetches are spectral creatures that take the form of a human," Marvin explains. "Then they kill them. With magic. So yes. Wouldn't want that to happen to Chase."
“Oh,” Bro says, looking a bit pale, “…yeah that’d be bad.”
"So... I am guessing you are this other Chase's brother?" Schneep asks.
"Nice to meet you!" Chase says. "Wow... fucking wild that I have a brother in another universe."
Alt blinks then nods, “Yeah hi, I’m Alt. Nice to meet you all too.” He smiles sheepishly.
"Well you have not met all of us yet," Schneep says. He points at his coat pocket... which is moving.
And then a tiny person pops out of it. "Heyo! So I guess you've already got the run-down then!" Jackie laughs. He looks at Alt--and for a moment, his expression turns to shock. Then he shakes his head, brushing it off.
Alt blinks at Schneep then yelps in surprise and glitches back. Then he blinks rapidly. “Oh! Uh- h-Hi there! Jesus… you’re a fairy!”
Bro laughs, “You’re a bit calmer about this then I was, bro!”
Alt looks confused at Jackie’s expression then waves towards Jameson, “Uh yeah- J and Marvin were just explaining stuff to me…”
"Honestly you're both taking this so much better than I did," Chase says, sitting down. "I guess being from other universes help?"
Alt shrugs, “We’ve seen a lot of crazy shit. And a lot of different worlds.”
Chase is human too, Jameson says to Alt.
"Yeah, I just moved here recently, actually. All the way from the US--you have no idea the fucking heart attack I had the first time I saw any of these guys."
“Oh hey! We’re originally from the US too!” Bro grins at Chase, “mostly grew up in Dublin though!”
"Are you all actually going to get anything?" Maebh asks. "Or are you just going to take up space in my pub?"
Bro turns around to look at Maebh and then grins, “Oh I’ll take something!”
Alt lightly hits him, “Chase! We’re supposed to be focusing, not drinking!”
“C’monnnn Alt! You got to get that like- Wendy’s knockoff thing! Can’t we just have like… one? Maybe two??” The hero pouts to his brother.
Alt just crossed his arms and gives him a look.
"Oooo, Maebh, give me a crow's nest!" Jackie flies out of Schneep's pocket and over to the bar.
"Put it in the bowl, Jackie," Maebh says, pushing a small ceramic bowl over to him.
 Jackie digs into his pockets and pulls out a couple handfuls of shimmering dust, dropping it in the bowl.
"And the rest of you?" Maebh asks.
"I am fine." Schneep nods.
Me as well, Jameson adds.
Chase hesitates. "Nnnno." The guys all turn to him and smile, all looking proud in some way. Chase rolls his eyes. "Let's not talk about it."
Bro blinks then gives Alt puppy dog eyes.
Alt stays firm then finally sighs and waves him off. “One drink- anymore and I’m leaving your drunk ass behind.”
“Psssh im not gonna get drunk from two drinks! But fine- compromise!” Bro grins, hurrying over to the counter. He then blinks, “uhhh… hm… is this like- faeee alcohol or… human?” He asks sheepishly.
Maebh laughs. "I'd be in real fucking deep for serving otherworld stuff to humans here. You think I want the rest of Themselves in this town to drive me out?"
"I asked about it too, bro," Chase calls. "Apparently fairy food does weird shit to your brain. Probably not a good idea if you want to stay clear-headed."
“Oh… yeah I figured fairy food would do that-“ Bro laughs, remembering their time in the Wyldwoods.
"Here, Zephyr, hand him a menu while I work on that mini crow's nest," Maebh says.
Zephyr hurries over, pulling a handmade paper menu out from under the bar and handing it to Bro. Looks like they have just about any type of alcohol imaginable.
As much as Bro wants to try that he doesn’t wanna piss off Alt or get them in serious trouble just for being curious. He looks at the menu then shakes his head and laughs, “I’ll just take two Irish whiskeys please-“ He says, pulling out his wallet.
"Got it," Maebh says. "Zeph?"
Zephyr nods, and makes Bro his drinks. Meanwhile, Maebh hands Jackie a tiny drink in a miniature glass cup that's actually pretty cool-looking in how well-made it is.
“Oh my god it’s so tiny!!!” Bro squeals.
"I still think that's so fucking cute," Chase says, grinning. "Oh, Bro, don't say thank you. They don't like that here... for some reason."
"We don't like being in debt, and that's what thanks implies," Marvin says, taking a sip of his own drink.
Bro blinks at other him, “Oh! Okay- that makes sense… I guess?” He laughs as he takes the drinks from Zephyr, he opens his mouth then just nods to him before hurrying over to the table.
Alt sees the two drinks and sits up quickly, eyes sparking a bit, “Hey! I thought I said-“
“The other is for you, dummy!” Bro laughs, handing Alt the other glass.
Alt blinks slowly then takes the glass and holds it. “…oh-“
“maybe it’ll get you to chill out a bit-“ Bro smirks as he takes a sip.
Alt hits him again.
Jackie flies over to join the rest of the group at the table--though Marvin continues to hang back.
"Were you two not here for something?" Schneep says, frowning. "You should not ah, 'chill' too much."
I'm sure they know what they're doing, Henrik, Jameson says. Once they finish they can go do whatever they're here to do. Perhaps we could help. We all know the area really well, after all.
Alt moodily sips at his drink… damn that’s good. He has to admit it’s nice to just have a quick drink.
“Hey it should be no big!” Bro laughs, “We’re just looking for something- we got a really good way to look for it too!” He says pulling out the tracker and touching the pupil.
Marvin makes a mrrp sound and walks over. "Magic?"
Schneep chuckles. "Marvin loves his magic."
Alt grins, “Yeah it’s magic! It’s like a scrying orb- but it’s attuned to the thing we’re looking for.”
The tracker tells Bro that the part is in the forest to the north, in the hands of the fae that lives there. Bro looks down at the eye and seems troubled, “uh,.. we may have an issue…”
“Huh? Why?” Alt asks.
“The orb says it in the north part of the forest… and it’s with the fae that live there.”
The mood immediately drops. Jameson in particular looks the most nervous, going pale... or, even paler. Alt hadn't noticed it before, but Jameson doesn't look fully well. Kind of like how people look when they've been inside sick for a while.
"The north, right?" Chase says. "I've, uh... been told not to go that way."
"We've told other Chase this, but um... all of the Fair Folk are here because we cannot go back home, for some reason," Schneep says. "Many of us were banished. And among them... the one they call the Iron-Mad Prince. He is the one who lives in that area."
“He’s a banished fae too? Living in the forest?” Alt asks. He gauges everyone’s expressions and purses his lips, “…guess he’s a really big threat huh?”
“Why is he called the Iron-Mad Prince?” Bro asks, tilting his head. “…that’s a fucking sick title though I have to admit.”
"Oh, um... not really an immediate threat," Marvin says slowly. "But if you go in there... it's a risk."
He's called that because... iron isn't good for us, Jameson explains. It tends to have a bad physical and mental effect. But the Iron-Mad Prince is, for some reason, obsessed with it. With human technology. It's driven him... a bit... well, mad.
“Oh yeah! I’ve heard iron is bad for fae,” Bro says, nodding.
"And he's a prince because his brother is one of the Fae Kings," Jackie adds. "Of the Green Court, nearby. That's where I'm from, too."
Alt holds both hands around his drink tightly. “…does the Prince… look like me?” He asks quietly.
A moment passes. Then Jackie nods. "...except for your eyes," he says.
"Are you thinking that that guy is you?" Chase asks. "In the same way that Bro is me?"
Alt nods and then sighs heavily and takes a bigger sip of his drink, “Yup. The other mes tend to be… mad. And tied to tech somehow…”
Bro frowns then messes with his hair as he takes another sip too. “Well… if he’s not an immediate threat then… we might be able to just find the piece and get out there, you know?”
"I guess it's possible," Marvin says slowly. "The goal will be to get in without attracting attention. Or getting too close to any of the iron he has lying around there."
 “What can he like- sense the iron around? That’s weird…” Bro frowns.
“Guess it makes sense… makes him sound like a stalker though-“ Alt mutters. Bro blinks and Alt looks back at him, “Like the hybrid that Schneep was? They collect scrap metal.”
“Oooh! I forgot about that to be honest.” Bro laughs.
Alt’s eyebrows furrow, getting lost in thought for a second.
"Wait, You guys want to go?" Chase asks, surprised. "But--you just said iron was bad for you."
"These guys will need our help!" Jackie says. He reaches down to his waist, and in a flash of light, he suddenly has a tiny silver sword. "As a knight of the Green Court--"
"A knight on probation," Schneep mutters.
"--I am bound to protect human and fairy from danger!"
Bro gasps in delight at Jackie pulling out his sword. “Woah! Tiny knight!! That’s awesome!” He grins.
"Heh." Jackie grins and does some fancy maneuvers. "Knights come in all sizes in the Courts. Because threats come in all sizes as well."
Jameson sighs. I'll come too. I know the forest well.
"Me too." Marvin nods.
"Iron does not affect me as strongly as the Good People from these islands," Schneep says. "So I will come, too."
Chase frowns. "Well... now I have to join in."
Bro blinks at everyone then smiles, “Great! It’ll be good to have people who know the land! And get to know you all! I wanna know more about what you all are!”
Alt nods and glitches to his feet, taking one last sip of his drink. “Alright then… guess we should get going, huh?”
"Good luck, lads," Maebh says from behind the bar. "If you need help, send a signal and I'll come running." She tilts her head at the giant crossbow on the wall.
Best wishes! Zephyr adds. Your pure hearts will guide you.
Bro waves at them with a bright grin, “th-!” He starts to say before he closes his mouth and nods again, giving them both a thumbs up.
"That sounds like a Barbie movie quote," Chase chuckles. Both Alt and Bro laugh at Chase’s joke.
Jackie makes his sword disappear again and chugs the rest of his drink. "Alright, let's go." He hops into Schneep's pocket, head and hands sticking out.
Alt glitches towards the door. Bro walks up besides Jackie and Schneep, “You can fly dude! Why you hitching a ride on Schneep?”
"Why do you take a car when you can walk somewhere?" Jackie asks. "Also, the Fair Folk might be an open secret, but it's still a secret."
Schneep chuckles. "I do not mind."
“Oh- well- damn I was excited to have a flying buddy!” Bro laughs.
"I'll get out once we get into the forest don't worry," Jackie says, grinning.
Marvin puts his empty glass down, stretching. He stares at the glass for a moment.
"Noooo," Maebh says warningly.
Marvin looks back at her. Then he walks towards the door and--and between one step and the next he changes shape. Into that cat Alt saw on the bridge. The cat walks over to the door and looks back at the others, waiting.
"Bro, you just got rid of your thumbs, you can't just stare at us to open the door for you," Chase says, standing up.
Alt blinks then points at Marvin with a slight Pog face. “Oh my god!! You’re the giant cat?! …actually that explains so much-“
Marvin looks back at him and meows in such a way that it sounds like he's laughing.
"Yep. Marvin can turn into a cat," Chase says.
Actually, it's more like he can turn HUMAN, Jameson corrects. The cat is his main form.
Alt’s eyes sparkle, “That’s so cool!”
Jameson gets up and goes over to the door, pushing it open. Ready?
“Ready," Chase, Jackie, and Schneep all say in unison.
Bro laughs, “Ready!” He says a bit after them.
Alt nods and follows after Jameson. Then he grins at the others, “You know- I can change into animals too!”
"Whoa, really?!" Chase's eyes widen in surprise. "Sick."
"Oh, I've never met a human mage who can do that," Schneep says. "I believe it's difficult to master.
“Well… it certainly was a difficult skill to get-“ Alt says, rubbing his wrist. “But it’s… useful. And a cool trick. I try not to do it too often though.”
“I'd ask you to show us, but let's at least get out of town first?"
"Oh! What about the other Chase who says he's a superhero?" Jackie has ducked back beneath the flap of Schneep's pocket, so his voice is muffled. "What can he do?"
And I know Marvin is curious about the rest of your magic, too, Alt, Jameson says.
Indeed, Marvin is prancing by Alt's side and looking up with wide eyes. His pupils are large in the way cat pupils get.
Bro grins, “I am a superhero! I can fly, I have super strength, super speed and I can shoot lightning! That one is kinda hard though-“
Alt blinks down at Marvin and grins wide. “well- once we’re in the clear I’ll show you all.”
Marvin looks away again, purring a little.
Chase shakes his head. "Man... why is everyone around me so cool?"
Bro nudges Chase with a smile, “Hey give yourself some credit! You’re cool too!”
"Heh. Thanks, man." Chase smiles at him.
Then, they all start off towards the forest.

The Middleman - Hair Dye
content: (defective conditioning, dehumanizing language, mentions of previous abuse, mentions of forced body modifications)
The car rattled to a stop in the parking lot of a dingy motel. It was a squat, murky-green building near a closed section of outlets, with glitching neon signs and rusting guard rails on the second floor.
Benzo shut off his engine and pocketed his keys, turning to the boy in his front seat.
“You’re not going to make a scene. We’re just checking in.”
He nodded, eyes fixed on the dashboard, and Benzo unbuckled his belt before going around the car and opening the passenger door. The boy got out, the cuffs of his sweater balled into his fists, standing pigeon-toed and shaking.
Benzo cupped a hand to the back of his neck and moved the boy with him in quick strides until they were out of the cold night and at the front desk.
An older blonde woman stood smoking behind the counter, leafing through a magazine with thick acrylics.
“Room for a week would be great, thanks doll.” He could hear how tired he sounded, despite trying not to.
“Mmhm, leave an ID and a credit card.”
Benzo tossed both onto the counter, the woman sliding a set of keys with a room number tag in exchange. He took it and guided the boy out until they’d reached room 45, on the second floor.
There were two single beds, a desk by the window, and a bathroom that could barely even be called a bathroom. The wallpaper was peeling and the whole room reeked of stale smoke and cheap detergent.
“Strip and put the clothes on the bed. I’ve only got four days til we have to drop you off so we haven’t got a lot of time.”
Benzo turned around, shucking off his jacket and tossing it on the bed closest to the door along with his keys and burner phone. It wasn’t like it was a hard job, being the middleman. The pit stop between the trainer and the buyer. Honestly it was mostly superficial things that he was in charge of. Ensuring that training had sunk in properly, making the final cosmetic changes to fit what the client wanted, and then just keeping an eye on them until the time came to drop them off in a blindfold, gag, and cuffs. He’d gotten ridiculously good at it over the past few years.
The trainer had given him a file on the boy; hair, tattoos, detoxes needed. This one was twenty-five, a natural blonde with fifteen tattoos and a penchant for smoking weed. But since he’d been handed off, Benzo had picked out the changes the client had requested. It was like a game for him, like Spot the Difference.
Weight loss was the most obvious. He’d been listed in the two hundreds but that was clearly not the case anymore, small and curled in on himself as he stripped off the clothes and folded them on the bed.
Next was the tattoos, probably the most uncomfortable part. Fifteen of them, none visible, now just patches of darker, mottled skin in various places on his body; the back of his neck, behind his ear, big chunks of it sectioned in neat, geometric shapes along his arms.
They’d cut them out.
Benzo would be in charge of the hair, the client wanted a redhead but there was only so much you could do with a cheap box dye and some vaseline. Regardless, he emptied the color cream into the color activator before shaking it and pulled on the thin latex gloves, rolling up his sleeves and dropping one of the towels on the floor.
“Come in.”
The boy shuffled into the bathroom in a pair of boxers and kneeled on the towel, bowing his head.
“We’ve gotta wait twenty minutes once I put this on.”
Benzo dropped into a squat, using a hair tie to section out the boy's hair. It was long, stopping at his nape, parted down the middle. He made sure to smear vaseline from a travel tub along the hairline, ears and neck before he started in on the application, the dye already processing in the bottle.
Once it was fully covered, Benzo peeled off the gloves and shoved everything back into the box before tossing it away.
“Stay there, I’ll come back when it's time to rinse.”
The boy made a noise and Benzo stopped cold in the doorway, fixing his eyes on the carpet.
“What was that?”
His voice was quiet and hoarse. Benzo could hear his vocal fry.
“It’s burning.”
They never talked. Not once. He’d had hundreds of them, whining when they had to pee, licking off the plate at the end of a meal, dropping to their knees at the slightest hint of his displeasure, although he never showed it. But none of them had ever once talked. What kind of client wanted one that could talk back?
Still, he’d take it in his stride.
“It was four bucks. It's gonna burn.”
And then he left and shut the bathroom door behind him because if the boy could talk then god knows what else the client was allowing him to do. He decided to review the file again, to make sure there were no more surprises waiting, and slumped onto the bed to skim through it.
“Surgical cosmetics to perform, blah blah, mmhm, filing teeth, jesus. Filing teeth? Okay. . . aha. Commands, actions, performance, demeanor, training.”
Benzo felt around his cargo pants pockets without looking away from the page until he found his cigarette carton and bit one out of the box by the filter, fumbling for his lighter.
“It is to be completely subjugated. . .”
Benzo’s eyes flitted to the end of the section as he lit his cigarette.
Mute.
He could feel a migraine settling in. Usually things went smoothly, without a hiccup. The training bled any fight out of them and by the time they arrived on his doorstep they were practically gift-wrapped for the client. Benzo’s work was strictly superficial, and he felt his stomach knot up with the knowledge that this was a bigger pain in the ass than he was willing to handle.
Still, maybe it was a fluke. It would be the training system that got the reprimand, not him. He was just the delivery boy. Stubbing out the cigarette on the underside of the bedside table, he got up and opened the bathroom door, light cutting across the boy's face.
“Rinsing time.” The boy crawled over to the tub and Benzo twisted on the faucet. He used to ask if the temperature was okay, but the smaller things had been pushed to the wayside since his clientele numbers had grown the past year, and the newcomers were a little more severe about how freely he got to interact with their purchases.
Pushing his hand through the cream of the dye, Benzo scrubbed over the scalp and lifted the length of the hair, squeezing the excess off until the water ran a diluted copper.
The boy was shaking, jaw clenched to prevent chattering, white-knuckling the lip of the tub as Benzo took a towel to his head and dried most of it off. It was a saturated auburn, a stark contrast to the earlier blonde, but it suited him a little better.
“Put your clothes back on.”
The boy nodded and Benzo tried to ignore the blood pulsing at all his focal points. If he just didn’t talk for the next week then Benzo could forget he ever did. That he was unfinished. That the whole aversive stimuli model didn’t work and he’d get punished for it the second Benzo dropped him off. The second he was left for the wolves.
Once the lights were off he could feel his headache abating, and knocked back a mouthful of rum from a half-empty flask in his jacket before climbing into bed. A few feet away, the boy was turned towards the wall, the curve of the blanket lifting with every breath.
He was almost asleep when a voice cut through the dark of the motel room.
“What’s going to happen to me?”
Benzo pretended not to hear it.

Hidden Panthers
Summary: Soulmarks aren't rare, and neither are soulmates, but what is rare, is a person who doesn't want to meet their soulmate, but Toho Academy has two.
Or: Five times Aomine was curious about your tattoo, and one time he saw it.
TW: a small amount of angst, I suppose one part might be comparable to a panic attack, and some swearing, but I promise it's mostly fluff.
A/N: I had an idea! Since I have no requests currently in my inbox, I thought I would jot it down before I forgot about it.
1.
"You guys do realize that you should be practicing, right?" you asked when you walked into the gym and the boys were all shirtless, showing off their soulmarks.
"They're trying to prove who's is the biggest," Momoi informed you, making you snort.
You were almost one hundred percent certain that you had them all beat, except for maybe Aomine.
Your soulmark was a special image somewhere on your body, and animal, a place, something like that. They were colorful, and looked like tattoos.
The mark on your body corresponded with the one on your soulmate's body.
You knew that Aomine had your matching tattoo, not that he knew that, and that was okay.
The black ink of his tattoo was stark against his tan skin, but you knew that he wasn't showing it off with pride, it was him just proving a point.
Top dog on the team, biggest soulmark, he was unbeatable.
Aomine had made it clear that he didn't appreciate the thought of soulmates, that he was fine with not knowing who they were, not knowing who you were, in your case.
"What's yours (Y/L/N)-kun?" one of the boys asked and you snorted, a hand flying to cover your mouth, sometimes you hated hanging around teenage boys all the time, it made your mind go to weird places sometimes.
"Sorry boys, you don't want to see my mark, trust me," you muttered, touching your shoulder softly.
Aomine's eyes were on you, burning a hole through your body, but you ignored him.
"What is it?"
"None ah," you said.
"None ah?"
"None ah ya business," you replied, dropping your bag by the bench.
The boys peeled off into laughter, and Momoi gave a small giggle.
You smiled softly, tugging your sweatshirt off.
The boys were getting to practice, though Aomine was still watching you, watching you with those startling blue eyes.
"Are you going to practice or are you going to just stare at me like a creep?" you asked, crossing your arms over your chest, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Nah," he muttered, moving to head out the door, but you moved in front of him.
"Nope, you're here," you told him, throwing your arms out. "If you're here, you're practicing, even if that means you have to practice with me."
Aomine squinted at you, and you were 99% certain that he was going to try and shove you out of the way, but he sighed, heading back to work in drills with the other boys.
Momoi was watching you, eyes glinting in the way they did when she watching a game and her data was proved correct.
"Momoi-san," you said, "why are you looking at me like that?"
"It's just a hunch," she murmured, wandering off to watch Aomine play.
You frowned after her, wondering what the hell she was talking about, but you shook it off.
Those two were weirdos.

2.
"So, (Y/L/N), what's your soulmark?" one of your friends asked, and you sighed.
"It's nothing all that impressive," you lied, flipping the page of the textbook you were skimming through.
"But what is it?" she persisted.
"A pain in my ass," you muttered, touching your shoulder lightly again.
"(Y/L/N)-kun," one of your classmates said, "one of the basketball boys is waiting for you outside."
"Thanks," you replied, gathering your stuff up.
You were a back-up manager for when Momoi was away watching other teams play.
You were surprised to find Aomine leaning up against the doorframe, practice clothes on.
"Hey," he said.
"Hey yourself. Are you actually going to practice again?" you asked, hauling your bag over your shoulder, wincing at the weight.
He made a small noise, which made you think that that was his version of a yes.
"Why don't you show off your mark?" Aomine asked.
"Why don't you?" you replied, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Soulmates are bullshit," he muttered. "I don't like being told what to do. I hate being told who to love even more."
"My soulmate doesn't want me," you admitted after a moment of walking, readjusting your bag on your shoulders. "No point in showing off something that symbolizes someone who hates that I even exist."
Aomine paused, running his eyes over you again, and you glanced back at him.
"What?"
He didn't answer, he just stood there watching you. He had been doing that a lot, and you were a little worried about it.
"Are you coming or what?" you asked, heading for the gym.
He followed behind you, eyes boring into your back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What's your soulmark?" Aomine asked.
You had gone to the roof to tell him to get his ass to practice. He had been coming more and more often, but he had been staring at you for most of it, despite urging from both you and Momoi to actually practice.
"Nothing important, not like you practicing," you deflected, standing in front of him with your arms crossed.
"Snippy," he quipped. "I'll show you mine if you show me yours."
"Perv," you muttered. "And I've already seen your mark."
"Yours is on your shoulders, right?" he asked. "You keep touching them whenever someone brings them up."
"Yeah, it's a pretty big one," you admitted, reaching to touch your shoulder absentmindedly before you registered that you were doing it. You dropped your hands to your sides again, frowning.
Despite the fact that you already knew your soulmate, and how he felt about the whole thing, the mark was still comforting to a degree.
Aomine was still watching you, he had been doing it a lot, though you weren't entirely sure why. Every time he did, it jump started your heart, making you wonder if he knew.
He made a small noise, then dragged himself to his feet.
"Gotta go to practice," he mumbled, bumping shoulders with you as he headed down to the gym.
Aomine started appearing more and more after that. He wasn't following you exactly, but it was almost like your schedules had overlapped.
Then you had gotten assigned to do a group project together.
"Nice place," he muttered when he walked through the door into your home.
"Thanks," you said, shutting the door. "I'm telling you this right now, Aomine, I am not doing this entire project by myself, and if I do end up doing it by myself, you are not getting your name put on this. Do you understand me?"
"Yes ma'am," he muttered. "Do you have any bread?"
"What?" you asked, then you remembered his weird carb obsession. "Uh, yeah, just . . . give me a minute," you said, setting your things down on the couch before you headed into the kitchen.
Snacks were something you could do.
You got him a drink too, and when you set a plate and a drink down in front of him, he glanced up at you appreciatively.
"Thanks," he said.
"No problem," you told him, sitting beside him on the couch.
"What are we doing the project on?" he asked.
"I have no idea," you muttered. "It would be easy to do a keynote or something, but there are going to be so many people doing that."
You pulled the project requirements out of your bag, your eyes flitting over it.
"What if we did like a . . . a soulmark examination?" you asked. "We were reading a book about how people think soulmarks mean something to the pair that share it instead of simply being an indicator, right? All we would have to do it take a picture of one of our soulmarks and make up some sort of metaphorical bullshit and make it look pretty when we present it."
"We should do yours," Aomine immediately suggested.
"Why mine?" you asked, panic starting to float into your veins.
"Because I want to know what it is," he replied, grinning at you.
"How about we do yours? You have your own fan club and I'm sure they'd be ecstatic to know what it is. Besides, yours is easier to do than mine," you told him.
"How so?"
"Mine is across my back," you informed him. "That means that I would have to take off my shirt and my bra for us to get a picture, and there are so many things that could go wrong with that. Besides, it's not like anyone in the class hasn't seen your back already, it's not new information."
"Fair enough," Aomine said. "But, when I get fakers pretending to be my soulmate, you have to be the one to fight them off."
"Deal," you said, holding your hand out to him.
He took it, shaking it firmly once, before he tugged his shirt over his head.
"Let's get this over with," he muttered, curling his shoulders forward so that you could get a clear picture of the black panther lounging across his shoulders like it was a tree branch.
You snapped a couple photos from different angles, and resisted the urge to touch it.
It was the same as yours, and you wondered vaguely if you had ever found your tattoo as beautiful as you found Aomine's.
"We good?" Aomine asked.
"Yeah, we're good," you croaked, then cleared your throat as he pulled his shirt over his head again.
Your project had gotten a great grade, and you were both proud of it, but now Aomine seemed to be hellbent on figuring out what your mark was.
"Just show me!" he'd whined.
He'd been up on the roof again, and you had been charged with getting him off the roof and down to practice.
"No, Aomine. Now get off your ass and get down to practice," you told him, arms crossed.
You had been in this position for the past couple of weeks, and it was almost routine now.
"I won't even be a dick about it," he had promised you, his eyes looking almost sincere as he pleaded with you. Almost.
Aomine, you had learned, had adopted you as a friend, in the last few weeks of being stuck around him.
You and Momoi had started walking to class together, and Aomine had started trailing behind like a lazy guard dog, much to the chagrin of Momoi's many suitors.
"He really likes you," Momoi said one morning.
"Oh yeah?" you asked, chuckling.
"He hasn't liked someone like this in a while," Momoi told you. "He's a long time basketball junkie, so seeing him take an interest in someone that doesn't have much of a connection to the game is a relief to me."
"Momoi, I thought we agreed that you wouldn't profile me," you told her, giving her a small smile.
"I can't help it," she whined, taking a hold of your arm. "You have to tell him (Y/F/N)!"
"Sorry Momoi-san, I can't do that," you replied. "He doesn't want that."
"How do you know if you won't tell him?" she asked, pouting.
"Momoi-san, he's made his stance on soulmates exceedingly clear, and he likes me now because he doesn't know. I want it to stay that way. I'd rather be a friend than anything else. Besides, he doesn't like me like that," you informed her.
"I've been friends with him since we were kids," she said, glancing at you with those eyes. "I think I know when he's interested in a girl."
You snorted, but your conversation tapered off when Aomine joined you again.
"Seriously, what the hell is your soulmark?" Aomine demanded. "I have asked literally everyone I can think of that might know. No one in this entire fucking school seems to know what it is."
"Sorry Aomine," you said, slipping into your classroom, throwing a grin over your shoulder at him. "A girl needs to keep her secrets, besides, you aren't the only one with a soulmark thing."
His growl resonated into the classroom and you chuckled lightly as you sat down at your desk.
Of course, the one time the teams tries to do some team bonding they chose to go to the fucking beach.
Of course, Aomine had also been the one to suggest the beach. The others thought it was because he wanted to see girls in bikini's, but he had glanced at you and winked.
He wanted to see what your mark was.
"I hate you," you snarled, cornering him, before he left for his house. "You scheming son of a bitch."
"Such vulgar words," he teased, giving you a dark look. "And I have no idea what I could've done to make you hate me, baby girl."
"You know exactly what you did," you growled, ignoring the pet name. "The whole beach thing was your idea."
He grinned, and you suddenly understood why your mark was a panther.
Something flashed through you, and your let your own grin show through.
"You want to play games Aomine-kun?" you teased, keeping eye contact with him. "Fine, then let's play."
"What do I get if I win?" he asked.
"You'll have to choose that for yourself, if you win," you told him, storming out of the doors.
When the day came to go to the beach, nothing was out of the ordinary, save that the boys had decided that one of them had to be with you and Momoi at all times.
"You guys don't need to babysit us," you chided when you climbed onto the bus. "We tend to stick together anyway, and pervs, unless they're in groups, tend to pick the girl that splits away from the pack. Momoi-san and I can stick together and reduce the risk. This is more for you guys than it is for us anyway."
"Yeah, we don't need a guard dog," Momoi agreed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I'll stay with them," Aomine offered, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and Momoi's, and you rolled your eyes.
"You just want to know what my soulmark is," you told him, glancing up at him.
"Wait," Sakurai murmured, "even Aomine doesn't know what your soulmark is?"
"Nope," you said, popping the 'p'. "He's been trying to figure it out for weeks now. That's why he suggested going to the beach."
"You clever son of a bitch," the captain said, and you shrugged.
"He and I have a small little wager going," you admitted, shrugging his arm off your shoulders. "If I can keep my soulmark hidden from him for the whole day today, he drops it."
"And if he wins?"
"She's being cryptic about that," Aomine said, and his eye twitched lightly.
"If he sees it, he can decide what he gets for winning," you told them. "He'll understand if he sees it."
And so the game began.
"Are you going swimming, (Y/F/N)?" Momoi asked you.
"Are you?" you asked her.
"No, I want to work on my tan," she admitted, waving a small bottle of tanning lotion.
"Then I'll stay with you. I have some reading I need to catch up on anyway. Besides, I want the sunscreen to sink in, I burn easily," you admitted, having applied it as soon as you got to the beach.
You were wearing a one-piece bathing suit (since it was harder for something to happen with one on), but you had thrown a thin white crop top on over it to cover your shoulders.
After Momoi asked you to get her back, you settled onto your towel, pulling your assigned literature book out of your bag, finding your page.
"Seriously, why don't you just show us what the damn thing is?" Aomine asked, settling down next to you forcefully.
"Because it's a part of my body, meaning I can show it off when I want, or cover it up when I want. Besides, I told you earlier, my soulmate doesn't want me," you said, flipping your page leisurely. "Don't need them hating me more than they already do without knowing my identity."
Aomine was clearly displeased, but it wasn't like he could argue with you about it, soulmarks were a very personal thing to some people.
"You're at the beach," he began a few minutes later, tone incredulous, "and you're reading a book. What is wrong with you?"
"A lot, which issue are you referring to?" you asked nonchalantly before he scowled at you. "I don't feel like going into the water," you told him, glaring at him over your sunglasses. "I have work to do, and this is a good time to catch up on it. Besides, shouldn't you be with the rest of the team? This was for you guys."
Aomine scowled, but stood up, heading for where the team was playing a game of beach volleyball. Or, they were attempting, none of them seemed to be having much luck with it.
"You know, not very many people can keep Dai-chan at bay as much as you're able to," Momoi said, making you snort.
"You just have to know how to deal with it. You can do it."
"But not for long, and not once he makes up his mind about something. You've kept him at bay for months, I've never been able to do that. My top score is a week."
"Does it bother you?" you asked quietly.
"No, not at all," she said, a little too quickly. "Okay, well, it bothers me a little. I've known him since we were kids, and you can handle him better than I can just after a few months, but I know why."
"Honestly Momoi, I don't think it's because we're soulmates, because he doesn't know. I think it's just I refuse to let him win at all."
"You two are definitely two of the most stubborn people I have ever met," she agreed, rolling over onto her stomach.
"I'm not sure whether that's a compliment or not," you muttered.
Momoi giggled and you smiled. It was nice, hanging out with her. It was nice to have a female friend.
"I'm a little peckish, do you want a pretzel or something from the concessions thing?" you asked, gesturing to the snack shack type thing that they had set up a few meters away.
"No, I'm all set, thank you though," she said.
"Alright, just thought I'd ask," you told her, standing up, wiping sand off your legs as you headed over with your wallet.
You dodged a pair of kids that looked like twins, who were trying to splash each other with water, and you laughed as one of them tackled the other.
"Idiot, you can't just wander off," Aomine chided as he sidled up next to you.
"I didn't," you pointed out. "I told Momoi where I was going."
Aomine frowned, glaring at a guy that stepped too close for his comfort.
"The point of this trip was so that the team could bond," you told him, "so that means that you should be over there with the team."
"You're a part of the team too right?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at you.
"Technically, yes, but I'm talking about the part of the team that plays on the court. I just tend to make sure that your ass shows up."
You glanced at Aomine, who was frowning.
"Out with it," you demanded, glancing around as you walked to make sure neither of you bumped into anyone.
"Does your mark make you uncomfortable?" he asked, carefully choosing his words.
"No," you admitted. "It's comforting actually, but there's no point in showing it off. Besides, it makes my back really hot when I'm out in the sun. That makes me uncomfortable."
You placed your order, which consisted of a fruity drink on ice and a small snack that would hold you over until lunch.
"What have you eaten today?" he asked.
"Nothing. I had coffee this morning and then left the house. I don't normally eat breakfast," you told Aomine.
"How are you alive?"
"Have you taken health classes?"
"Not what I meant, asshole," he snapped. "You're gonna run yourself into the ground."
"Aomine, I'm fine," you assured him. "Besides, I'm drinking plenty of fluids."
He frowned, but he seemed to realize it was useless to argue with you about it.
"Go back to the team, Aomine, I'm fine," you told him, shoving him towards where the boys were sitting in the sand.
You tossed your snack wrapper in a garbage can that was placed strategically, glad for the little bit of food in your stomach.
But then the kids ran by again, and one of them got you instead of their brother.
"Sorry!" he called, darting away.
Normally you wouldn't have minded, the water felt nice against your skin, but you knew that your cover-up would start to be see through, and with the breeze blowing off the water, it was sticking to your back.
You sighed, slipping it over your head as you headed for your towel.
After drying your shoulders off, you set your shirt out to dry, then began rooting around in your bag for your backup, before remembering that you had forgotten to put it in your bag before you left.
"Fuck," you muttered, glancing at where Aomine and the other boys were chatting.
You supposed that it was fine for now, but you would have to be careful if they came back over.
"Momoi, please, for the sake of our friendship, you can't say anything to the boys about this," you said when she looked over and saw your back.
"Why are you so worried about him finding out?" she asked, carefully running a hand over your back, tracing the lines of the mark.
"Because, he might be a dick, but he's a friend, and I don't want to lose that friendship because of some dumb cosmic presence that decided we were meant for one another."
"Do you love him?" she inquired.
You licked your lips, then pursed them.
"Do you love him?" she repeated.
You waited for a few moments before you confessed, "I might. Whether it's love or a crush, I can't say for sure."
She sucked in a breath.
"What?" you asked.
"You know that he likes you back, right?" she asked quietly. "You know that it has nothing to do with the Mark. It's not like he's seen it and knows that you're the woman he's going to marry."
"He'll hate me if he finds out."
"No, he won't."
"I think he will."
"How long are you going to keep this from him?" she demanded. "He at least deserves to know that you're an option!"
"I'll wait until he's married if I have to," you snapped, making her rear back. "Satsuki, in the end, this is my choice to make, and I've made it. He can't know."
"It's his decision too," she reminded you. "This isn't a one way street!"
"Right now, it is," you snarled. Then you softened your tone. "If I'm ever put in a situation where he finds out, I will let him make his own decision, but right now, it's my decision, the ball is in my court so to speak, and this is the move I'm making."
"I think it's the wrong move," she whispered.
"Luckily, it's not your move to make," you replied. "I don't mean to be cruel, Satsuki. I want him to be happy. I just don't think that he'd be happy with . . . me."
"How are you so sure?" she demanded, looking close to tears. "How are you so sure that knowing you're his soulmate would make him miserable? Why can't you accept the possibility that maybe him knowing would make him love you even more?"
You remembered all the times he had raved to you about how soulmates were bullshit. You remembered every vehement denial that he wanted to know who his soulmate was. Every venomous word and the pure hatred in his eyes.
If he looked like that just because of the idea, how would he react to the real thing? Something physical he could take his anger out on?
You highly doubted that Aomine would ever physically hurt you, but the idea still sent a shiver up your spine, despite the warm weather.
"Call it a gut feeling," you murmured, wrapping your arms around yourself.
"I just want you both to be happy," she whispered.
"I can't speak for him," you told her, "but I'm content with the way things are right now."
"Content and happy aren't always the same thing," she argued.
Something in your eyes must've told her that you weren't in the mood, because she sighed, going back to her tanning.
You laid on your back, trying to think of ways to hide the mark, but it took up the entire expanse of your shoulder blades, there was no way to hide it unless it was completely covered with a shirt or you laid on it.
"Momoi-san, (Y/L/N)-san, do you wanna come play two truths and a lie with us?" Sakurai asked.
"Sure, I would love to," Momoi said.
"What about you?"
You paused, thinking it over, before you grabbed your shirt, throwing it over your head after beating most of the sand out of it, making sure that no one saw it.
It wouldn't do much, you didn't think, but it would make you feel better all the same.
"Okay," you murmured, wandering over to fit in the circle with the boys.
They had decided that the person to their right was going to have to guess which was the lie, and you despaired to find that Aomine was on your right.
"Since the girls have now decided to join, new score," the captain said and you winced.
"Ladies first," Aomine said, giving you one of those glances that made you want to kiss him and punch him at the same time.
You decided to find a good compromise and you pinched his arm, hard.
"Okay," you murmured, trying to think. "One: when I was six, I popped my elbow out of my socket throwing a tantrum. Two: I have more than five dresses in my closet. Three: my music selection has a disturbing amount of love songs."
The others started whispering amongst themselves, and Aomine squinted at you.
"Number two has to be the lie. I've seen your music selection, and you mentioned the arm injury when you first became the manager," Aomine declared confidently.
"Wrong," you told him, grinning. "I have six dresses in my closet. I wasn't throwing a tantrum when I popped my elbow out of my socket. I fell off the monkey bars at the park."
Aomine glowered at you, and you laughed.
"You're just shitty at paying attention."
The boys were surprisingly bad at this game, either that or you were just good at guessing when someone was lying.
"One: I hate cherry lip gloss. Two: I can play the guitar. Three: I've never had a celebrity crush."
"Every girl has a celebrity crush," Aomine muttered, but then glanced back at you, frowning. "I say one is the lie."
"Nope! I can't play the guitar. I was taking lessons until I was eleven but I can't remember any of it."
"Wow, despite how much time you guys spend together, you really don't know much about her, do you Aomine?"
"Shut up," he mumbled, cheeks flushing.
Momoi, who was situated on your left, seemed to be very concerned with how good you were at guessing hers.
"That's the sixth one in a row that you've guessed right!" Satsuki cried, and you laughed.
"Sorry Momoi-san, but you're just very transparent and I'm too competitive to lose."
Aomine hadn't managed to guess any of yours, and you could feel him simmering beside you.
"Alright, since Aomine sucks at this, and (Y/F/N) is simply too good, let's change it up a little."
Suddenly, they were all going against you.
"I take it back, we all suck at this," Imayoshi muttered a few rounds later when they had yet to get one right.
"Sorry guys, I'm just good at hiding things," you said. "Remember, I've been hiding my soulmark from you all since the beginning of the year."
"That's it!" Satsuki cried, pointing at you, making you jerk towards Aomine to get away from her. "If we can get one right, just one, then you have to show us your soulmark!"
You wanted to decline, you wanted to act your way out of it, you knew what would happen if you lost, but that glint in her eyes made you want to prove her wrong.
"Deal," you told her.
"Okay, think about your answers carefully," Aomine said.
"Shouldn't they be saying that to you?" you asked him as you thought of something to say.
After listening to the ocean for a moment, you said, "One: I sleep like a baby during thunderstorms. Two: snapping turtles scare me to death. Three: I have a college age reading level."
Everyone started deliberating, and you smiled, leaning back, soaking in the sun.
"We have an answer," Imayoshi said, and you cracked open an eye.
"Shoot," you told them, sitting up.
"It's number two," he said.
The blood drained from your face.
You knew that they had taken a wild guess, but you hadn't expected them to get it right.
You took a deep breath, closed your eyes, and nodded, not trusting your voice.
You took another steadying breath as you stood up, brushing yourself off, trying to control the shaking in your hands that was slowly spreading up your arms.
You vaguely heard Imayoshi telling you that you didn't have to, that you had the right to say no.
You wanted to take the out he was giving you. You wanted to act your way out of it, you wanted to try and run, and you wanted to tell them that you backed out but . . . .
But you had been keeping this to yourself for a very long time. And you wanted to know sooner rather than later whether Satsuki was right or not. You wanted to know whether this was as terrible as your mind was making it out to be.
You got a firm grip on your shirt, and you were about to lift it off, but suddenly Aomine was in front of you, his hands covering yours as he stared you down.
His eyes were boring into yours, and his hands were firm, but gentle, in their grip.
He was telling you that you didn't have to, that as much as he pried, he wasn't going to let you feel pressured into doing this.
You stared at each other for what felt like an eternity before you shook your head, lips pressed together in a hard line.
"You deserve to know," you whispered, barely able to keep your voice from shaking.
Aomine nodded, slowly moving his hands, before he settled back down where he had been.
You took one last, steadying breath, turning your back to your team.
You tugged the shirt over your head, pulling the straps of your suit to the side so that they could see the expanse of the mark across your back.
Your entire team was silent as they realized what they were seeing.
"Holy shit," someone breathed, though you weren't sure who it was.
"I'm sorry," you whispered, though you weren't entirely sure who you were apologizing to.
Momoi was suddenly in front of you, pulling the straps of your bathing suit back up.
"(Y/F/N), you're shaking," she murmured.
"I know," you told her.
"He's gone," she informed you, and you collapsed into the sand, letting out a shaky breath you hadn't known you were holding.
"How pissed with me is he?" you asked her.
"I-I don't know," she confessed. "I've . . . I've never not been able to read him. He . . . he was completely blank. I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault," you murmured, staring at the sand in front of you. "I should have taken the out. I should have stayed home. I knew what he was trying to do. I knew that you wanted me to tell him. I knew how he would react. And a small, foolish part of me dared to hope that I was wrong. A small, naive, stupid, masochistic part of me believed that it wouldn't matter. I should know by now that I'm rarely wrong about this kind of thing."
"But I know him!" Satsuki said, looking close to tears. "I know how he looks at you! I see the little things! I don't why he . . . ."
"Don't worry about it Satsuki," you told her, standing up, turning to your team. "Sorry guys."
You headed for your spot, gathering up your things, making sure that you had everything that you had come with, just to give yourself something to focus on.
"Are you going to be okay?" Sakurai asked.
You saw that the whole team, save one member, was standing there in various states of shock, anger, and something akin to pity.
"I knew it would happen eventually," you murmured, then told them, "I'll survive. I'll be myself at practice on Monday, promise. Have a good rest of your weekend guys."
You dug your phone out of your pocket when you were far enough away from the team.
"Hello?"
"Taiga, hey, can you come pick me up?" you asked. "Something went down with Aomine."
"I'm on my way," he said. "Hold tight. Wait, where are you?"
You sent him your location, heading for the parking lot.
By the time Kagami actually found you, you were pretty sure you had cried yourself out.
You didn't remember crying, but Kagami had taken one look at you and wiped at your cheeks.
You had gone with Aomine when he had challenged Kagami at the street court, and you had stayed in touch with the red-head slowly becoming friends with each other.
He knew about your mark as well, though he had promised to keep it to himself. He hadn't told Kuroko either, which surprised you.
"What happened?" he demanded.
"He knows," you admitted, letting him wrap an arm around your shoulders. "He saw it."
As you explained what happened, Kagami got quieter and quieter, and when you glanced at his face, you were surprised to see a serious amount of anger on his face.
"Taiga?" you asked quietly.
"I'll murder him," Kagami growled. "He's such a fuckin'-!"
"You don't have to murder him," you told the red-head, who looked shocked at your response.
"But-!"
"No, I knew it was going to happen. I knew that I would lose him, I was just trying to hold on for a little longer. He hasn't done anything wrong," you said. "I guess that means that I don't have to hide it anymore."
"He's an idiot," Kagami declared.
"I already knew that though."
"Did he even explain himself to you?"
"No. But he doesn't need to. I already know that he doesn't want me. I knew when he started pawing around about my mark. I knew, but I didn't stop him. I led myself to this point."
"Stop taking responsibility for him being a dick!" Kagami snapped. "Do you realize how many people would kill to have you as a soulmate? Or to have one like you?"
"That's not the point!" you told him. "The point is that the one person I want to want me as a soulmate, doesn't. And there's nothing I can do to fix that! Because he seemed to like me just fine thinking I wasn't anything special to him, but the moment fate steps in, I'm fucked. So unless there's a way to pretend like this mark isn't a permanent reminder that the guy that's supposed to be perfect for me, hates my guts, then I guess this is my life now!"
"Kuroko is so much better at this than I am," Kagami muttered to himself. "Look, have you tried calling him?"
"He made it pretty clear that he wanted nothing to do with me."
"Try it anyway."
"I think I'm good. My heart's been broken enough today, thanks."
"Seriously, this is fucking insane," Kagami stressed, opening a door for you. "From what I've seen, your the one person he actually listens to and hears."
"Because he didn't know what I was! I took advantage of that, and now I'm paying the price for it. I should have just told him and dealt with the consequences when I didn't want him! Now it hurts that much more and I have to watch us go back to being strangers. Maybe I should just transfer."
"Um, (Y/F/N)," Kagami said, tapping your shoulder.
"No, I'm serious! Why torture the team with our angst when I can just move schools? There are plenty in the area. Maybe I could move to Seirin. My parents-"
"(Y/F/N)!" he hissed, turning your head to look at something.
"Fuck," you muttered, locking eyes with Aomine, who had his hands thrown up like he had been using them to make a point to Kuroko, who was glancing back and forth between the two of you.
Kagami dropped his hands from your face and you took the opportunity.
You turned and bolted from the Seirin gym.
You should have been paying attention. You should have made Kagami take you home, you should've asked where you were going before.
Multiple people shouted after you, but you ignored them.
You had to get away from him, you had to make sure that he didn't think you were trying to-
Do what?
You slowed down with a sudden realization. If your life had been a cartoon there would've been breaking sound effects and skid marks behind you.
Why should you care what he thought when you had walked into that gym? He didn't care anymore, not now that he knew what you were, why should you?
Fuck what he thought!
If he wanted to let you go, who gave a fuck what it seemed like? You were friends with Kagami, and by default, Kuroko.
How were you supposed to know that he would go to Kuroko after this sort of thing?
Was it really that weird, that wrong, for you to do what you had just done?
You took a deep breath, letting yourself relax. You were probably over thinking things yet again.
A street court caught your eye and you stared at it for a few moments before heading over.
Someone had left a ball there, whether from pure forgetfulness, or a trust in humanity that someone wouldn't take it.
You pushed on it, checking the air, before you dribbled it around.
You could have gotten on a team if you had wanted, but after middle school, you had had enough of the inter-team drama, and had decided to give it up. So you had managed the boys team to be close to the sport without having to deal with a lot of the drama.
You practiced with them sometimes, when Momoi was managing and you had nothing better to be doing.
You made a few lay-ups, a few foul shots, and moved onto half court shots, soaking in the sound of the ball falling through the net.
The heat of the day was soaking through your t-shirt, soaking into the mark, and you touched it lightly, wondering what you were going to do on Monday.
You had promised the team that you would be back to normal, but would you be able to fake being okay well enough to fool them? How much would it take to fool Aomine into thinking that you were okay?
"Why him?" you asked yourself, tilting your face up to the sun. "Why did it have to be him? It could have been literally anyone else, and you chose the one guy that would never be able to love me for what I am, for what we are."
A breeze rustled the trees around you and you breathed it in, moving to leave when you caught sight of him standing in the entrance of the court.
"Shit," you muttered, looking for another way out. There was no chance that he hadn't seen you, even Aomine wasn't that much of an idiot, but you were seriously considering climbing the fence to get away when he spoke.
"I'm sorry," he started.
"No, stop, I don't want your apology," you told him, wrapping your arms around yourself, not able to look at him. "You have nothing to apologize for. I knew when I made that damn deal that I was risking our friendship, I was just tired of having to hide the damn thing. You of all people realize how much of a pain in the ass it is to cover up. And now that I think about it, it's probably better that this happened now. I can't imagine how badly it would've been if I had gotten even closer to you.
"Besides, now you're free to make your own decision. Satsuki got what she wanted in the end. Go figure, I guess. Anyway, you don't have to worry about it. You won't have to worry about me doing anything now that you know. And I already told you that if you won you would get to decide what you got for winning. You won't have to deal with me after this, I promise. I'll disappear since that's what you want."
"So when you told me I got to choose, you were basically telling me that I could choose whether I wanted you or not?"
"Yeah, pretty much, and I shouldn't've. I already knew which one you were going to choose, I was just being naive."
"That's not how it works dumbass," Aomine said.
You screwed your eyes shut, turning your head away from him.
"I know," you whispered. "Why are you even here?"
"I was looking for you, obviously," he grumbled.
"Why? I already know that you don't want this, you made that abundantly clear with your stories and reactions to me at the beach. What are you trying to do here, Aomine?"
"Trying to tell you that I like you," he stated. "But you keep trying to push me away."
"Huh?" Your eyes flew open at the words, and you stared at him.
"Idiot," he murmured, walking over.
You backed up, trying to keep the distance but he backed you against the fence.
"Do you want me to be honest with you?" he asked softly.
You nodded, wondering what the hell he was doing.
"I might be in love with you, and not because you're my soulmate," he said, which made you cock your head in confusion.
"But . . . all that stuff you said about hating soulmates and not wanting to meet yours . . . ."
"I didn't think you were my soulmate moron," he murmured, reaching out to toy with your hair. "I'm okay with it being you. I'm grateful for it actually."
The look on your face must've said it all because he sighed.
"You should've told me sooner," he told you. "I want to go out with you. No secrets, no lies, no weird games where I'm trying to get you to take your clothes off."
"You had me until that last one," you muttered, taking the hand that was playing with your hair.
He laced your fingers together before you could take your hand away.
"Sorry, I couldn't help it," he told you, wrapping his other arm around your waist. "So what do you say? Go out with me?"
You watched his face as much as you could in the crappy lighting, waiting for any sign that he was joking, waiting for him to yell 'Psych!' and walk away.
But his arm stayed wrapped around your waist, and he seemed too busy watching you to question what was taking you so long.
"If I say yes, am I going to be the laughing stock of the school?" you asked.
"No, I may be a dick, but I'm not that mean," Aomine told you.
"Okay," you whispered. "Yeah, I'll go out with you."
The smile Aomine gave you could've lit the whole court.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"I hope you realize that Kagami and Tetsu think we're both crazy now," Aomine said.
"They already knew," you told him, wrapping an arm around his neck. "You have to be crazy to put up with the both of them."
Aomine snorted, nudging your forehead with his.
"I'm sorry that I ran from you," he said. "I shouldn't have done that."
You waited, sensing that he had more to say, he was just gathering his thoughts.
"I don't know what I was thinking," he muttered. "I just had to get away from my own stupidity I guess. I should have guessed that I was your soulmate. You were so on edge whenever I brought it up, but when someone else brought it up it was more like you were sick of the questions. I know you enough to know that if you reacted differently to me that it was because of me. I just . . . I acted on instinct."
"You don't have to explain anything to me Aomine," you told him, burying a hand in his hair. It was softer than you had thought it would be.
"No, you deserve an explanation. I am the whole reason you're even at Seirin."
"I was at Seirin because I wanted to talk to Kagami and that was where we ended up. We could have just as easily gone to his place or to mine."
"Tetsu's been trying for years to get me into the whole 'soulmate' thing, so he was the first person I thought of that could me explain what the fuck was going on. I wasn't upset that it was you, I was upset because you hid it from me and that you thought I was going to flip out about it. I mean, I did, but just not the way you expected."
"I figured you would yell at me, maybe push me around a little bit," you confessed. "I didn't think you were going to run like your ass was on fire to go talk to Kuroko."
"I wouldn't hurt you, for multiple reasons, the main one being I like you."
"I know, but the mind is a strange thing, and mine has a tendency to think worst case scenario first."
He hummed, and you saw the tension melt from his shoulders.
"Come on, let's get out of here," you told him. "Maybe you could go practice with Taiga and Kuroko."
"I want bread, we should go to a coffee shop or something," he suggested.
"Actually, yeah, that's a better idea," you agreed. "I really don't feel like explaining to Seirin what this whole thing was about. I'll call Taiga and explain, how about you call Momoi-san and tell her that everything's okay, 'cause she was really worried when I left."
"Yeah, I got it," he murmured, digging his phone out of his pocket, but he didn't unwrap his arm from around your waist.
"Hey, Taiga," you said when he picked up his phone.
"Where the hell are you, idiot?" Kagami asked.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you even more. Everything's fine now. Aomine kinda cornered me in a street ball court."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, we worked things out. You don't have to worry about it, I promise. We're gonna go to a coffee shop somewhere nearby. I'll call you when I get home so that you know that I got back safely."
"Alright, but if he starts being a dick again, just give me a call."
"I will, thanks for everything Taiga," you told him, ending the call.
It wasn't really explaining things, but you could always tell him about it later, which you were probably going to have to do.
"-fine, Satsuki," Aomine was saying, looking exasperated. "She wants to talk to you."
"Hi Momoi-san," you said when he handed you his phone.
"(Y/F/N)! Are you okay? Where are you?"
"Momoi-san, breathe," you ordered, laughing. "I'm fine. Aomine and I worked things out, I promise."
"Are you dating? Because if you aren't then that's not working things out!" she cried.
"Momoi-san, we worked things out," you assured her.
"So you're dating then?"
You pursed your lips and glanced at Aomine.
"You'll find out soon enough I suppose," you told her, hanging up before she could say anything else to you.
"I think she likes you more than she likes me," he said, and you could hear the repressed pout.
"Nah, you'll always be Dai-chan to her," you told him. "You're her best friend, I just happen to be someone she needs to like because of my affiliation with you."
"You make it sound like this is some sort of business thing," Aomine whined, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
"I'm not used to you liking me, Aomine, you're going to have to let me adjust to this. I have been deliberately avoiding the fact that I like you all year."
"Fair enough," he muttered. "But don't expect me to be all conservative about this."
"What's this?" you asked him.
"Us, the fact that you agreed to go out with me."
"I retain all rights to pretend like I don't know you if you get too dramatic," you warned him, which made him scoff, like he wasn't expecting you to go through with it.
"Bold of you to assume that I'm joking," you said, letting his arm slip off your shoulders and he paused.
"You can't be serious," he muttered.
You kept walking.
"(Y/F/N)? You aren't serious right?" he called after you, slight panic in his voice when you didn't turn around.
"Right?" he asked.
"Hongjoong!" You continuously poked at his arm rather harshly, trying to get him to look away from the phone in his hands.
"What-what?!" He freaked out and accidentally dropped his phone on the floor.
When he saw you peeking over to see what had gotten him so interested, he quickly scrambled to pick it up before hiding it in his lap. That made you even more suspicious.
"What are you trying to hide?" You squinted your eyes at him.
Hongjoong gulped nervously, which made your anxiety rise up.
"No-nothing... " But obviously there was something if his eyes refused to look at you. The longer you stared at him, the more Hongjoong seemed to recoil back in his chair, looking like he was..... guilty? Ashamed?
Dropping your fork on the table, you held up an accusatory finger at him.
"I'm warning you right now Kim Hongjoong, if you're fucking cheating on me I will cut off your penis while you're sleeping!" You threatened him.
The color drained from Hongjoong's face but nonetheless he got up to go over and calm you down.
"No no babe! I'm not cheating on you! I swear." He promised you, even getting on his knees in front of you.
"Then what were you looking at that you didn't want me to see?"
Sighing softly, Hongjoong took out his phone and pulled up the picture that he was looking at: it was a really cute and girly crib with a pink bed setting. You had to admit you were surprised that it would be something he was so intently looking at.
"And tell me why you were so distracted by this? Who were you planning on buying this for? Our son is already 3 and I don't think he'll appreciate the frilly pink in his room." You tried reasoning with him.
"No it's not for him. I've just been seeing so many nursery ideas for baby girls and it kinda got me thinking...." He paused and layed a hand on your stomach as he bit down on his lip, hoping you'd catch on to what he was trying to say.
And you most certainly did.
"Hongjoong- are you telling me you actually want another baby?" You weren't put off by the idea but it was so sudden and unexpected that you didn't know how to react.
Standing upright, Hongjoong squeezed your cheeks and softly pecked your lips.
"I do. I want an adorable and beautiful little girl... just like you. " He chuckled adoringly as he pressed more kisses to your cheek, trying to coerce you into saying yes.
"Dang, could you imagine raising 6 kids?" You asked Seonghwa as you cuddled up closer to him, your hand stroking the little patch of skin that was peeking out of his pajama shirt while you two watched the old sitcom The Brady Bunch play on your tv.
"Well you'd never have a boring day for sure." He chuckled, placing a kiss on the top of your head.
You hummed softly, eyes never leaving the screen in front of you.
"True...but to think how exhausting it must be. We only have two and they take up most of our time."
Seonghwa laughed at how true your words were, your twins already nearing 5 years of age and boy were they a handful. If you weren't making sure they were doing well in school, you almost always had to deal with the boy pranking his sister or causing all kinds of mischief or you had your daughter coming up to you with the darnest of questions, one after another.
"But you can't deny they're adorable and they make our life happier." He reminded you, and you had to agree. Like Seonghwa said, there was never a boring day with your two munchkins around.
Feeling Seonghwa's fingers idly tap along your hip, you knew his mind was elsewhere and not on the show playing on the tv.
"Penny for your thoughts?" You asked him.
Seonghwa wondered whether it would be a good idea to say something but ultimately decided 'screw it.' Turning off the tv, he sat up and looked you straight in the eye.
"How would you feel about adding another member to the family?" He straight out blurted it out.
Although you knew what he meant, you decided to play like you didn't understand.
"I thought you said no pets because they make a mess." You giggled which caused Seonghwa to flick your head.
"You know that's not what I meant." He huffed out.
"I know, I know love...."
Grabbing the collar of his shirt, your fingers slowly began undoing the buttons.
"So.... you want another baby?"
Seonghwa felt himself hardening when he looked at your suggestive eyes.
"Yes." He breathed out, tongue swiping over his lips when you brought your face close to his.
"Wanna fuck another baby into me?" You smirked as you layed down on the bed and pulled him on top of you.
"Hell yeah-"
Your moment was interrupted when you heard the screeching of your daughter as she called out for you, ratting out her brother in his new prank. Seonghwa sighed loudly as he got up.
"Guess we're trying this another night."
Picking his son up from school, Yunho watched as the little boy waved goodbye to his friends who in turn ran to their respective parents. He noticed how the boy seemed to look with great curiosity at some of them, particularly when they would hug or mess around with the sibling that was accompanying their dad or mom. Even during the car ride home, Yunho would peer through the rear view mirror and saw the little boy fidgeting his tiny hands.
"What's up buddy? Something on your mind?" He asked.
His son looked around nervously before blurting out:
"Dad how come all of my friends have brothers or sisters but I don't?"
Yunho had to steady his grip on the steering wheel to keep from swerving onto the opposite lane. He was not prepared to be asked such a question by his son.
"I well umm..... mommy and I didn't know you'd want a sibling...."
Yunho looked back at his son through the rear view mirror, hesitating on his words.
"Do you want a brother or sister?"
The reaction on the boy's face was immediate, eyes growing big and sparkling.
"Yes! I want someone to play with every day too!" He squealed.
Yunho chuckled at his son's excitement. Getting out his phone, being careful not to take his eyes off the road, he made a quick call to Mingi and asked him if he could babysit for a couple hours, which his friend was more than happy to do. Yunho immensely thanked him and hung up.
"Well buddy, for today please settle for Mingi's daughter. Maybe this time you'll actually beat her in climbing up a tree faster."
Happy at getting his boy content and with entertained for a few hours, Yunho dropped him off at Mingi's place, the latter promising to take good care of him, which Yunho didn't doubt one bit. Getting back inside the car, he nearly drove over the speed limit just so he could get home as fast as possible. You were just finishing up setting up the table for lunch when Yunho came running inside.
"Hey, where's-"
You slightly gasped when Yunho cupped your face and began kissing you hungrily, his mouth devouring yours as his hands went to the back of your thighs so he could pick you up and wrap your legs around his waist.
"Yunho what has gotten into you? Where's my baby?" You finally asked when you were able to catch your breath.
"He's over with Mingi and he'll be there for a couple hours, perfect if you ask me."
You couldn't help the blush that spread across your cheeks when Yunho kicked open the door to your room and proceeded to lay you on the bed.
"Our son is lonely, he wants someone to play with and keep him company."
You giggled when you caught onto his meaning, tilting your head when he began peppering kisses along your jaw.
"So let's try and make him a sibling."
Yeosang and you calmly laid out the food on top of the picnic blanket, one of you looking over every once in a while at the pair of kids running around the park, making sure neither of them got hurt, which they didn't. You two merely exchanged amused looks when you heard their playful bantering.
"Hey! No fair! You cheated!" Your son accused his older half sister, face frowning at having lost in their game of hide and seek.
"Did not! You're just a sore loser." Eunbin called out.
Huffing loudly, your son stomped his tiny 4 year old feet away from her, but stopping midway to turn around dramatically.
"I liked you better when you'd let me win!" He exclaimed.
"And I liked you better when you couldn't talk and still needed to be changed. You were a lot cuter back then!" Eunbin replied, half snorting at her statement.
You and Yeosang tried not to burst out laughing right then and there, preferring to keep quiet, knowing they'd be friends again in 5 minutes and forget they even got mad at each other. You went back to your task of peeling fruit, so engrossed that you almost didn't hear Yeosang start talking.
"He was incredibly adorable as a baby, Eunbin isn't lying." He commented.
"Yeah he was. He looked like a little cherub. Squishy cheeks and button nose." You faintly squealed as you recalled all the times you'd stay by his crib and watched him sleep.
Yeosang also began reminiscing about those times, his mind starting to get ideas.
"What if we had another one?" He asked so casually.
"Another baby?" You raised your head to look at him.
"Yeah.... I mean... I kinda miss all those sleepless nights of crying, endless feeding, rocking them to sleep and changing diapers." Yeosang admitted.
"I did most of it though." You reminded him.
"I mean.... I helped didn't I?" Yeosang tried to argue.
"Actually Damian helped out, even if he was grouchy about it." You rolled your eyes.
Yeosang huffed. "So I take it this means no baby?"
"Now hold on, I didn't say that. I'm very open to the idea, but you know this isn't a decision to make ourselves."
Calling for your children over, they speedily made their way to you two, each of them sitting next to their favorite parent, Eunbin next to her father while your son scooted over with you, resting his head on your lap.
"Hey kids, what do you guys think about mommy and I getting you guys a brother or sister?"
"There you go princess. All nice and pretty like always. Remember to behave at school ok? And be nice...."
Looking over to make sure you weren't within earshot, San leaned in and whispered to his daughter.
"But if anyone is being mean to you, remember to do that thing I taught you."
The tiny pig tailed girl held up her tiny fists and proceeded to lift her foot up and kick the air, just like her father had secretly taught her to do when you weren't around.
"That's my girl! Love you."
Kissing the top of her head, he watched her get in the car that also contained Wooyoung's daughter, their mom waving from the driver's side before taking them both to school. As usual, San stayed by the doorstep and waited a couple minutes before heading back inside. He joined you in the kitchen, where you were busy washing dishes from breakfast. Feeling your husband hug you from behind, you looked over and pecked his cheek.
"What's wrong?" You asked when you saw his pouty face.
"I'm worried about our princess. What if something happens to her?" He was starting once more with his overprotective dad mode.
"San she's going to be fine." You assured him.
"How do we know for sure? We say that now but what about later in life? Soon she'll start growing up, start making her own decisions and- Oh my God! Boys! Some boy will try to take her away from me!" He screeched, pure panic on his face.
"And that's normal. She will attract boys, she will date, will get her heartbroken-"
"Oh no no no, anyone breaks her heart, I'll break their necks." He cracked his knuckles to get his point across.
"You can't spy on her 24/7 you know. You might not even know when someone is interested in her or if she's interested in someone." You tried explaining to him.
"Hmmm true....we need someone else to do the job.."
Turning you around, San had a mischievous look in his eyes as he began untying your robe.
"Maybe someone like a little brother to report to me anything that goes on in her life."
You scoffed at him. "Choi San, are you suggesting we have a kid merely so they'll become your little accomplice?"
San chuckled as he pulled your body against his.
"That and it's getting pretty gloomy in the house without our daughter. Another baby might cheer us up."
Mingi and you cooed at the tiny baby that was in Yunho's arms.
"He's so adorable." You squeaked when he brought it closer to you so you could get a better look at his tiny face
"And big." Mingi pointed out
"Yep, his mom felt that too while pushing him out." Yunho grimaced as he recalled the excruciating hours inside the delivery room.
"But it was all worth it in the end. We brought another healthy precious boy into the world and our son won't be so lonely anymore." Yunho continued as he looked over towards his son and your daughter who were currently immersed in their favorite tv show.
"Here, wanna hold him?"
Of course you did. Carefully taking the baby from his arms, you rocked him in your embrace, your heart nearly bursting out of your chest from how cute he was.
"Oh my god Mingi! He's the cutest thing ever." You whisper yelled, not wanting to cause the baby to cry or anything.
"I know. Doesn't it make you want another one?"
You whipped your head over at Mingi, who looked shocked that he actually said that.
"I mean- if you don't want to that's fine. I understand. After all, we already have our lovely daughter and I wouldn't want you to go through another pregnancy if you weren't up to it..." His babbling started to trail off, throat clearing as he felt embarrassed about what he said.
"Well look at that, he needs to be fed. Maybe it'll give you two time to talk." Yunho laughed slightly as he took the baby away and went to go prepare a bottle.
When Mingi looked back, you had your arms crossed over your chest, foot tapping against the floor. Your stare made him nervous.
"Song Mingi....do you want another baby?" You raised an eyebrow.
"I mean....I would but if you don't, I won't-"
You silenced him by pressing a kiss on his lips.
"I do. I think it'd be nice to grow our tiny family a little more." Your reply brought a smile to his face.
"Really? You mean it?"
You nodded immediately, giggling when he pressed more kisses on your lips.
"Can we start trying tonight?"
"Y/N, I need your opinion on something." Wooyoung called out for you.
Walking into the room, you saw him face deep on his laptop, scrolling the mouse down.
"What?" You asked as you came up behind him.
"You know how we've been talking about moving to a different area?" You nodded at his question. Indeed, you had both been discussing about moving to a neighborhood that was close to your daughter's school.
"Well I found a few options and I wanted to see if you liked any of them."
Hunching over slightly, you started looking at all the different houses Wooyoung found. They all looked pretty cozy and very spacious.. a little too big though.
"Ooh! That's the one I liked! It has this huge backyard and I was thinking maybe we could install a playground for our daughter out there. With swings and a slide. Or maybe a trampoline!" He excitedly poured out his ideas.
"Wooyoung these are all 4 bedroom houses though." You pointed out.
"Yeah. So?" He shrugged.
"It's literally just 3 of us, what on earth are we going to do with 2 spare rooms?" You questioned him.
"Well I mean....what if..it wasn't just us 3? What if 3 became 4...or even more?" He looked up at you as he bit down on his lip, his hands coming up to caress your hips in a suggestive manner.
Smiling fondly at him, you cupped his cheeks and hummed.
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" You smirked at him.
"Are you going to say yes?" He looked at you with a hopeful smile.
You pretended to think about it, but eventually sighed and gave in.
"Yes."
Wooyoung jumped up from his seat and crushed you in a tight embrace, his lips attacking your cheek with pecks that felt more aggresive than grateful.
"Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!" He repeated over and over again.
Running out of the room, he barged into your daughter's bedroom where he proceeded to pick her up and spin her around, the poor girl confused.
"Guess what babygirl?! We're moving to a new house and you're going to get a sibling!"
Jongho steadied the tiny girl on his lap who was bouncing out of emotion while watching the soccer game.
"Ok ok honey, settle down. I don't want you falling off or something." He said as his strong hands kept her in place.
You and your daughter proudly cheered for Hongjoong's son and his team as they continued to score goal after goal, eventually winning over the other team which sent all of the spectators into a frenzy.
"Oh my god! They actually won!" You clapped.
Overflowing with excitement, your daughter hopped off her dad's lap and ran full speed into the field where she proceeded to latch onto Hongjoong's son, her tiny arms clinging to him while the poor boy was looking scared and nudged for someone to help him.
"Of course she'd run over to him." Jongho let out a sigh.
"Upset that your little girl already has her first crush?" You teased.
"No- well yes, but no actually."
Sensing that something was the matter with him, you inched yourself closer to Jongho, your hand reaching out to hold his.
"Is something wrong?"
It took a while for Jongho to muster his thoughts, but he eventually laid out his worries to you.
"No, it's just.... don't get me wrong, I love our daughter very much, she's my whole world along with you. But I can't help but feel jealous of my friends with their sons. Taking them to soccer matches every weekend, teaching them how to kick a ball, score a goal, you know, activities for father son bonding times."
You understood what he was talking about and although he could very well try to teach those things to your daughter, she was much too delicate and girly for such things, not to mention she didn't have much of an interest in sports. Resting your head on his shoulder, you smiled as you suggested:
"Maybe we should start trying for a boy then. I think it'd be nice don't you?"
Jongho whipped his head at you, questioning if you were being serious or not. You grinned and kissed his nose, effectively letting him know you were indeed being serious. Giggling, he pulled you against him and kissed your forehead.
"I love you so much."
You were driving Yuto to soccer practice, looking back in the review mirror at him. "Don't worry munch! You'll do so well!" You tried cheering him on. You knew he was nervous, you could see it in his face. But you were always distracted by your kid's looks. He had bright hazel-pink hair, with your eye color, and shape. And the cutest little nose that looks just like yours. Topping it off with a cute little dimple on his left cheek. He looked back your eyes in the review mirror, and sighed.
"Mom.. What if I mess up? I don't know how to play soccer!" He whined into his hands, kicking the seat slightly. "Munch. That's why you're going to practice! I'm sure there are other kids there who don't know how to play! Nobody's born and becomes a soccer prodigy!" You tried lighting his mood again.
"Well, all my friends had a dad to teach them things, why don't I?" He asked, with his hands tugging at the seat-belt. You tried dodging the question, asking him short questions instead. But he wanted an answer, so there you were. "Well.. Munch, I Don't really know where your dad is." You gulped, hoping he wouldn't continue. You really wanted to tell him the truth, but you couldn't just lay it on the table, and say- "Sweetie, I have No clue where your dad is. We haven't talked at all, and We barely talked when we met. Well.. not with words, to be nice."
"Makes sense! Onodera's dad travels a lot too!" He smiled, with his dimple-cuteness activating. You smiled at him, finally pulling up to the gym. You always questioned why this place was so big when you came here as a child. It was a sky-blue, with silver and yellow Pillars. You thought that the Pillar colors represented something, but there wasn't a mascot. Not if you count the Peeling paint on the side making the deformed shape of a cresent. You softly grabbed Yuto's hand, asking him if he tied his cleets, or if he needed to pee.
"I'm fine, Mom. But I won't be if you keep making me nervous." He muttered slightly. You run your hands through his hair. Still leading him to the gym room doors. You see a slightly tall figure, with Hair that reminds you of snow. The figure had on a very slick red jacket, with words that read,
"Nekoma high graduate!" On it. It looked pretty worn out, with a rip on the bottom of the sleeve, And a cat with spots on it. He seemed so proud of it, doing some weird motion with his arms. He greeted you with a smile, tugging at the cloth over his eyesight. "Well.. How do you do, Madomoiselle?" He attempted, biting his lip slightly. You laughed nervously, and greeted him with a goofy-smile. "Hello there.. Mr Satoru?" You peeped at his colorful nametag before smiling back at him. "This is my little munch, Yuto!" You cheered slightly, giving Yuto a little nudge.
"Hey there, kiddo! You're the spitting image of your hot mom." Gojo smiled, giving him a little push. "You'll do great out there. Now go- I have to get your mom to sign me some papers. And maybe her number-"
You cut Gojo off, with a kiss to Yuto's forehead, and a few extra cheers. You smile at the sight of Yuto's feet scuffing the floors with his shadow, and tell him you'll be in there right after. Gojo looked at you, them gave a big smile. "Miss, you have the eyes of a woman that's trying to cope. What's the issue? If you don't mind me asking."
You sighed, reading the paper Gojo handed you. It metioned something about a new coach, and how they'll be games every other day. You signed your name, and replied.. "Well, Yuto is starting to ask more and more about his dad lately, and his dad isn't really.. Y'know-"
"Hm,, Sounds like someone got a little saucy, yeah?" Gojo joked, bumping your elbow with his arm. You gave him a smile, and muttered an insult that made him laugh. He grabbed the paper, and smiled. "Well, Ms Y/n! Even though I don't see your number on this paper, I'll accept it."
"I'm sure I'll see you again, Mr Satoru." You smiled. "But- It won't involve my digits in your hotline, Mister." Gojo laughed, and gave you another smile. "Fair, Fair. But I'll always be here for the party, purrrrincess~" He made a pun, motioning to the cat on his jacket. You gave him an "Mmhm." and laughed a little.
You walk into the gymnasium practice room, seeing Yuto talking to a very tall man. The man was very slender, with slight broad shoulders. His figure was dream-made, with long, gentle bu slightly big looking arms, and very long legs that moved up to his sized torso, and shaped face. Tracing to his hazel-pink hair, with a messy hairstyle. "Christ- What does this man do for a living to be looking like a full course?" You thought to yourself, trying not to stare. You sat yourself on the bleachers, looking at how Yuto looking kicking the ball straight into the goal, avoiding all the blocks and built-up tension of his teamates. You laughed to yourself. "All that talk about not being good, and look at you go. Kicking that thing with no mercy." You felt a presence on the side of you, as you looked over.
The man had sat bedside you, looking at the sight you were only just gazing on seconds ago. "Good evening, Miss." He said holding out his hand.
Why so formal? It's just soccer. "Good evening, sir! How do you do?" You asked, taking Gojo's line. Sukuna chuckled a little, and gave you a little smile. "That's that idiot Satoru's line, isn't it?" He asked, shaking his head jokingly. You laughed, making his eyes widen slightly. He had noticed your familar laugh, wondering where he heard it from. He shook the lingering thoughts in his head, and tried to break the sem-comfortable silence. "Is that your boy?"
You shifted your vision back to Yuto on the field. "Yeah, he's mine." You replied. Sukuna admired your features, your hair that blew from the air circulation, your eyes that sparkled in any angle the light shone in.. His eyes moved their way to your legs.. then your waist, which he wanted to touch, then your chest- Which he paused on. He fastly took his eyes off of you, blushing.
You look over at him, and ask if he's okay, because you see that his cheeks are a little red. "Yes, Yes. I'm fine.. Just a little hot." He responded. You got up, telling him you were going to get ice. He pulled you back down gently, and gave you "It's okay's". He wanted you to stay, so he could admire you some more. He had felt this before.. Like Deja Vu. He knew he'd seen you up close like this somewhere, but it felt closer. Sukuna was tempted to ask "Have me met somewhere before?" But didn't want to sound strange.
You smile, as he told you not to worry, and slipped off his coat. You still worried for him a bit, feeling his face to make sure it wasn't too hot. He flinched at the feel of your touch.. He swore he felt your soft hands on him once. And he finally came to ask. "Miss.. Y/n, do we know eachother?" He asked, adjusting his glasses.
You didn't know whether you did or not. You did know that his cologne scent was so mesmerizing, yet familar. You had smelled it somewhere.. And it was really comforting. "I'm not sure, Sir." He gave you a smile, showing a dimple on his left cheek, that looked just like Yuto's. "Call me crazy, but.. You look like my Little Yuto over there, Sir." Sukuna cleared his throat, and looked away. "You think? I think we look similar aswell."
You both realized the sense. With Sukuna's looks.. And your Genes, you both were inmates. Partners. Maybe.. Lovers. You refused to believe that your 6 year old kid's dad was his new soccer coach. "If you don't mind me asking.. How long has it been since you've engaged in those.. Activites Ms?" He asked you, trying not to be weird.
"Well, since I got fucked, and pregnant? Maybe a few years." You wanted to say. "Well, It's been a few years. Since 7 years ago?" You gave him an answer. "It wasn't really.. A official thing."
"Maybe we can make it official, Angel? I already know who you are." Sukuna asked himself, rotating his fingers. "I understand. My last encounter was also about 7 years ago."
"My next will be soon.. Angel~" He smirked to himself. "There's always a right time for everything." He smiled, patting your shoulder. "Maybe we can talk after practice?" He said, walking off. You took off your serious face, and started flushing. The scent of his cologne made you a little aroused, which you found strange. You wanted to smell it more and more, until you couldn't anymore.
Practice was finally over, and you went over to collect Yuto, who was talking to another boy. Yuto looked back at you, and gave a flustered smile, before returning to the boy. You always knew Yuto had some type of affection for boys. So you'd let him have that friendship. You went to go give him his tennis shoes, when Sukuna pulled you aside.
"Gojo will take care of the kids. Please, wait for me at the door." He told you, patting your shoulder. You listened, walking to the door. You saw Gojo doing some silly walk leading the kids outside, Yuto's new friend waved at you. And you waved back, winking at Yuto. You felt a hand on your shoulder, and you jumped.
"Don't worry, It's only me, Angel." Sukuna calmly said.
Angel. Angel. Angel. Angel. It finally hit you. That name that you were called so long ago. The name you were obsessed with that one night of your life. The name you had written down in your book. "Who are you? Sukuna?" You asked, backing away slowly.
"..Hm, I'd perfer If you'd call me Sir like you were." He smiled, tucking your hair behind your ear. "Go on.. Your baby daddy is waiting, Angel." He teased, loosening his tie.
"You can't just- This is wrong. I haven't seen you in years, and you want to just come on me like this?" You said, trying to push him away.
"No Angel, I'm trying to make up for it.. You know how lonely It's been for 7 years? Without the sweet, small little Angel that I love?" Sukuna asked, thumbing your lips. "Then if you love me, why'd you leave me laying in a inn? Not even an explanation. And you missed 7 whole years of your child's life." You shot back.
"Well, there's the rest of it to make up for lost time, No?" He whispered in your ear, nibbling it slightly. You flushed, and your breathing got heavy by the scent of his cologne coming back to you. "We're in a gym, Suku- Sir.." You whispered, getting nervous by the second.
In the car, wasn't maybe the right choice. You had forgotten how big Sukuna was. He was huge. You didn't think you could take him at all. "Don't be scared, I'll go slow. Get loose Angel, we're making up for lost time." Sukuna whispered in your ear, touching your bare waist. "Now won't you be a good little angel, and spread those legs for me?"
Cleaning Out the Rooms - a Harry Du Bois playlist Alcoholism, getting better?, memory loss, being a superstar, The Final Dream, forming political opinions, bad breakups, past transgressions, being a strange and inconsistent being, and persisting despite it all 26 songs (r-slur warning for Turnin’ on the Screw - QotSA)
including: David Bazan, They Might be Giants, The Mountain Goats, British Sea Power (of course), Queens of the Stone Age, and more.  Full track listing and lyric excerpts under the cut
---- Turnin' on the Screw - Queens of the Stone Age (This is the opening track on Era Vulgaris, seemed like an appropriate opening song / introduction to Harry's general essence) ----
... They say those who can't just instruct others And act like victims or jilted lovers You can't lose it if you never had it Disappear, man, do some magic
Want a reason? How's about because You ain't a has been if you never was
I sound like this
Scared to say what is your passion So slag it all, bitter's in fashion Fear of failure's all you've started The jury is in, verdict: r******d
I'm so tired, and I'm wired too I'm a mess; I guess I'm turning on the screw
---- Bless this Mess - David Bazan (Harry being a drunk and a general mess, things going in cycles) ----
God bless the man who stumbles God bless the man who falls God bless the man who yields to temptation God bless the woman who suffers God bless the woman who weeps God bless the children trying her patience Trouble getting over it Is what you're in for So pour yourself another 'Cause it'll take a steady pair of hands Holy or unholy ghost Well now I can't tell, but either way you cut it You should get some distance if you plan to take a stand God bless the house divided God bless the weeds in the wheat God bless the lamp hid under a bushel I discovered hell to be the poison in the well So I tried to warn the others of the curse But then my body turned on me I dreamt that for eternity My family would burn Then I awoke with a wicked thirst
---- Don’t Sit Down Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair - Arctic Monkeys (general Harry vibe.  off-kilter) ----
Break a mirror, roll the dice
...
Find a well-known hard man and start a fight Wear your shell suit on bonfire night Fill in a circular hole with a peg that's square
But just don't sit down 'cause I've moved your chair
...
Bite the lightning and tell me how it tastes Kung fu fighting on your roller skates Do the Macarena in the devil's lair
But just don't sit down 'cause I've moved your chair
---- I've Been Seeing Things - They Might be Giants (feels very Harry's detecting style, surreal happenstance) ----
I've been seeing things I've been seeing things Don't have answers but I've got lots of questions
Carpool's up, someone gets out Hand someone else a violin case I'm trying not to let them see me looking at them But I'm pretty sure there was a dollar sign
Keep your eyes peeled and you'll see stuff Which at first seems like unimportant irrelevant things
Can't just ask some perfect stranger "What are you hiding in your violin case?" Shadow them at a distance instead Try to get inside their head
Where'd they go now (Where'd they go now) I got distracted (I got distracted) Begging me to stay (Begging me to stay) Wearing a disguise (Wearing a disguise) That lady (That lady) Must have ditched the kid (Must have ditched the kid) Hidge the down (Hidge the down) [???] What's she up to now? (What's she up to now?) Trembling cold by the airport road Watching them stack containers in rows Seagulls, helicopter, windblown trash Something doesn't add up
I've been seeing things I've been seeing things No one asks but I'm packing all kinds of attention
Later I'm watching a news report Camera pans across a crime scene Unremarked upon detail Empty violin case Okay maybe not the same case Different material, different color Still you have to wonder Am I the only one who knows
I've been seeing things
---- Music is the Victim - Scissor Sisters (breakup Harry.  drug-addled disco Harry) ----
I left my heart in San Fransisco It's at some motherfucking disco The people there where dancin' on it And that's including Ms. Matronic
Hell if music is the victim then so am I Of lovin' and a cheatin' the snake gon' bite I beg and I scream and I cuss and I cry If music is the victim then so am I
Of your bad fun Money's all gone but you need some Lover's on the phone but they got none Daddy ain't home from the dog run And you're riding through the city with a shotgun
I left my bag in Pasadena Where all them girls was doin' Tina Them bitches sure were crunked up on it I said I'd rather smoke some chronic
Hell if music is the victim then so am I Of lovin' and a cheatin' the snake gon' bite I beg and I scream and I cuss and I cry If music is the victim then so am I
---- Down to Your Soul - Right Away, Great Captain! (about the Final Dream and pre-game Harry) ----
And I see things I actually don't see. I knew it wasn't actually you a few feet from my reach. I looked into your eyes and I began to lose my teeth, And I felt you were dreaming the same thing.
And I know you don't know what I'm capable of But if you give me just one more minute I'm sure That you would be shaking right down to your soul And I'd hope that the fear of the lord brings me home. I'm a man in a body of water so tall Could swallow you whole and forget where he's going But I carved a map in the back of my arm Don't worry I'm coming home I said don't worry cause I'm coming home
---- No Surprises - Radiohead (suicidal harry, pre-game.  Maybe immediately before the game.  A little Big Communism Builder) ----
A heart that's full up like a landfill A job that slowly kills you Bruises that won't heal You look so tired, unhappy Bring down the government They don't, they don't speak for us I'll take a quiet life A handshake of carbon monoxide
And no alarms and no surprises
This is my final fit My final bellyache
No alarms and no surprises, please (get me out of here)
---- Cleaning Out the Rooms - British Sea Power (The instrumental part seems to have been used / referenced for a background music track.  And also the name of that one thought project. as expected, it fits beautifully.  Wake up in a new life, down by the seaside.  Cleaning out the rooms.  She’ll be coming soon.) ----
Where life is good in a way Swept away upon our hearts, in cold coal ceremonial On a rainy day, hang it up Get the vacuum and suck it in Cleaning out the rooms, I'll clean it up Dark cloud, drifting out of view I'll never know, she'll be coming soon, that is all I'll wake up in a new life, ship shape and shoe shine Cleaning out the rooms, I'll clean it up She'll be coming soon Drifting into view, way in the west, white cloud If everybody knew, I never knew, she'll be coming soon I'll wake up in a new life, down by the seaside In a new life, down by the seaside Cleaning out the room, I'll clean it up Dark clouds, she'll be coming soon Down the chimney, out the window, that is all
---- In the Morning of the Magicians - The Flaming Lips (waking up with no memory, but bad vibes) ----
In the morning I awake
And I couldn't remember What is love and what is hate
The calculations error
Oh, what is love and what is hate? And why does it matter? Is to love just a waste? And how can it matter?
Oh...
As the dawn began to break I had to surrender The universe will have its way Too powerful to master
---- Once in a Lifetime - Talking Heads (Huh??  What's happening??  same as it ever was, same as it ever was) ----
And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?" And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?" And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house" And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"
...
Same as it ever was, same as it ever was Same as it ever was, same as it ever was
...
And you may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?" And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?" And you may ask yourself, "Am I right? Am I wrong?" And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?"
---- Don't Change - David Bazan (alcoholism, cycles of wanting to get better, depression, slipping in to old coping mechanisms, plus a little bit in here about dreams.  This is a song for if Harry continues partying after the memory wipe, I suppose) ----
He seems nice You met him once or twice But you wonder what he's like When he's sober
Then again You hear he has no friends Just people that he spins To do him favors
When he wakes up in the morning he tells himself Today I'll make a change But falling into his bed at night he thinks Man it was a beautiful day to stay the same
I'm so deep That only in my sleep Do the secrets that I keep Float to the surface
So I hold them down Till they don't make a sound Like they accidentally drowned Except on purpose
And when I wake up in the morning I tell myself Today I'll make a change But falling into my bed at night I think Man it was a beautiful day to stay the same
---- Airbag - Radiohead (born again, back to save the universe) ----
In the next world war In a jackknifed juggernaut I am born again In the neon sign scrolling up and down I am born again
In an interstellar burst I am back to save the universe
In a deep, deep sleep of the innocent I am born again In a fast German car I'm amazed that I survived An airbag saved my life
In an interstellar burst I am back to save the universe
---- A Comet Appears - The Shins (puppeting a man-body around pretending to be a living thing. drinking, depression) ----
One hand on this wily comet Take a drink just to give me some weight Some uber-man I'd make I'm barely a vapor
They shone a chlorine light on A host of individual sins Let's carve my aging face off Fetch us a knife Start with my eyes Down so the lines Form a grimacing smile
Close your eyes to corral a virtue Is this fooling anyone else? Never worked so long and hard To cement a failure
---- The Communists Have the Music - They Might be Giants (Big Communism Builder, but especially Harry's shallow understanding of Communism.  Party-boy communist) ----
I got handed an Ayn Rand sandwich Straight from the can, it tasted so bland I asked a lass to pass me a glass Of Engels' Conditions of the Working Class
Right away they dragged me to the committee To explain my un-American activity They're gonna see they made a mistake If they'd only let me play my mixtape
I'm not partial to the martial Or the plutocrats, in their beaver hats And the fascists have the outfits But I don't care for the outfits What I care about is music And the communists have the music
---- Harlem Roulette - The Mountain Goats (Harry thinking about Guillame le Million?  Generally: that vibe of secret, maybe supranatural machinations happening just outside your field of view.  A kinda lonely, pensive vibe, sprinkled with past drug use, driving...memory) ----
Unknown engines underneath the city Steam pushing up in billows through the grates Frankie Lymon's tracking "Seabreeze" in a studio in Harlem Its 1968. Just a pair of tunes to hammer out. Everybody's off the clock by 10:00. The loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again. Feels so free when I hit the avenue. Nothing like a New York summer night. Every dream's a good dream, Even awful dreams are good dreams, If you're doing it right. Remember soaring higher than a cloud. Get pretty sentimental now and then. The loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again. And four hours north of Portland, a radio flips on. And some no one from the future remembers that you're gone. Armies massing in the dusky distance. Ghosted in the ribbon microphone. Leave a little mark on something, maybe, Take the secret circuit home. Nothing in the shadows but the shadow hands. Reaching out to sad, young, frightened men. The loneliest people in the whole wide world are the ones you're never going to see again.
---- Suture up Your Future - Queens of the Stone Age (Harry's gonna fix his mess) ----
I'm gon' suture up my future I ain't jaded, I just hate it See, I been down too long It's kinda hard to explain Burned and buried, all I carried
...
Tried explaining unexplained Got caught in the plan All this talking at once I've been giving my love away To the things that tear it apart I'm gonna suture up my future
---- Lampshades on Fire - Modest Mouse (Harry trashing his body / having already trashed his body, just kinda a Harry-vibe song) ----
...
Well, the lampshade's on fire when the lights go out This is what I really call a party now Well, fear makes us really, really run around A-this one's done so where to now? Our eyes light up, we have no shame at all Well, you all know what I'm talking about The room lights up, but we're still dancing around We're having fun, having some fun now
Pack up again, head to the next place Where we'll make the same mistakes Open one up and let it fall to the ground Pile out the door when it all runs out
...
As our feelings are getting hurt Oh, we want you to do the work Our ass looks great inside these jeans Well, we want just our water clean
Well, this is how it's always been And this is how it's going to be So you just move on
---- Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes (Harry "can-opener" du Bois.  Talking to the skills, solving things, detecting, generally being a terrifying force of nature / the pale) ----
I'm gonna fight 'em all A seven nation army couldn't hold me back They're gonna rip it off Taking their time right behind my back
And I'm talking to myself at night Because I can't forget Back and forth through my mind Behind a cigarette
And the message coming from my eyes Says, "Leave it alone"
Don't wanna hear about it Every single one's got a story to tell Everyone knows about it From the Queen of England to the Hounds of Hell
And if I catch it coming back my way I'm gonna serve it to you And that ain't what you want to hear But that's what I'll do
And the feeling coming from my bones Says, "Find a home"
---- Body of Years - Mother Mother (Harry's past that follows him, Harry's half-decomposed body that marks the years of abuse it's been through) ----
All the remains of a cadaver of days I keep hidden away, keep them there just in case I wanna visit that place Blow the dust from the bones Off a body of years that I leave all alone Just a body of years
See the skin disappears And the blood turns to stone In a body of years now a pile of bones Like a sheet of veneer Each a piece of my soul It's a body of years that I leave all alone
It's Just a body of years, now a pile of bones You know Old soul who falls down Can't stop trippin' on these Old roads I go down Get back up and get my foot in the door And my face on the page Make my mark in the world With a bat and a blade It's a body of work that you can't ever change Like a body of years that you take to your grave It's just a body of years that I leave all alone It's just a body of years, now a pile of bones Like a sheet of veneer Each a piece of my soul
---- The Cap-m - They Might be Giants (just a Harry vibe song) ----
When I talk you keep looking away from me 'Cause you probably think that I'm high on pot But I'm not, I'm not
Look me over, I'm the Cap'm You say it's such a joke But I don't see you laughing
People seem to think you can't be called the Cap'm Unless you drive a boat Well, I don't I don't
Look me over, I'm the Cap'm Go ahead and mess with me You'll find out what will happ'm
...
Did you say what I think you just said My hat looks good on me? I agree, I agree
Look me over, I'm the Cap'm You act like it's a joke But I don't see you laughing
---- Broke - Modest Mouse (oops!  all mistakes.  Broke it all.  Want to forget it but can't) ----
Broke account, so I broke a sweat I've bought some things that I sort of regret about now Broke my pace and ran out of time Sometimes I'm so full of shit that it should be a crime
Broke a promise 'cause my car broke down Such a classic excuse it should be bronze by now Broke your glasses, but it broke the ice You said that I was an asshole and I paid the price
Broken hearts want broken necks I've done some things that I'd love to forget, but I can't
Broke up, and I'm relieved somehow It's the end of the discussions that just go 'round and 'round And 'round, and 'round, and 'round ... It was like everything was evidence of broken time
You're living on fancy wine You'll drink that turpentine You're starting conversations You don't even know the topic
---- Spent Gladiator 2 - The Mountain Goats (Defiantly alive) ----
Like a spent gladiator, Crawling in the coliseum dust. Who can count on his remaining limbs, All the people he can trust. Like the one who stands behind him, Cheering him on. Ecstatic when he stands defiant, Wild with abandon when he's gone. Just stay alive. Keep your eyes on the pay line. Like a village on the step, About to get collectivized. When the men emerge with rifles from the haystack, Everybody looks surprised. Like the mice in the forgotten grain, Way up on the top shelf. Like someone who's found a small town to escape to, Keeps one eye on his abandoned, former self. Stay in the game. Just try to play through the pain. Like a fighter who's been told its finally time for him to quit. Show up in shining colors, And then stand there and get hit. Like the clock that ticks in Dresden, When the whole town's been destroyed. Like the nagging flash of insight, You're always desperate to avoid. Like the bloody-knuckled gunman, Still stationed at the breach. Like that board game with the sliders, And the children on the beach. Stay alive. Maybe spit some blood at the camera. Just stay alive. Stay forever alive.
---- You Only Live Once - The Strokes (just general Harry, talking about the skills, choices you can make, what kind of cop you can be) ----
Twenty-nine different attributes Only seven that you like, oh-oh Twenty ways to see the world, oh And twenty ways to start a fight, oh
...
And countless odd religions too It doesn't matter which you choose, oh, no One stubborn way to turn your back, oh This I've tried and now refuse, oh
Oh don't, don't, don't get up I can't see the sunshine Oh, I'll be waiting for you, baby 'Cause I'm through Sit me down Shut me up I'll calm down And I'll get along with you
---- Pork and Beans - Weezer (Superstar Cop) ----
They say I need some rogaine to put in my hair Work it out at the gym to fit my underwear Oakley makes the shades to transform a tool You'd hate for the kids to think that you've lost your cool
I'ma do the things that I wanna do I ain't got a thing to prove to you I'll eat my candy with the pork and beans Excuse my manners if I make a scene I ain't gonna wear the clothes that you like I'm fine and dandy with the me inside One look in the mirror and I'm tickled pink I don't give a hoot about what you think
Everyone likes to dance to a happy song With a catchy chorus and beat so they can sing along Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts Maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art
I'ma do the things that I wanna do I ain't got a thing to prove to you I'll eat my candy with the pork and beans Excuse my manners if I make a scene I ain't gonna wear the clothes that you like I'm fine and dandy with the me inside One look in the mirror and I'm tickled pink I don't give a hoot about what you think
No, I don't care I don't care
---- Freaks - Surf Curse (head filled with skills, The Final Dream) ----
Don't kill me just help me run away From everyone I need a place to stay Where I can cover up my face Don't cry, I am just a freak
I am just a freak(x3)
My head is filled with parasites Black holes cover up my eyes I dream of you almost every night Hopefully I won't wake up this time
I won't wake up this time(x3)
---- The Smallest Church in Sussex - British Sea Power (oh yeah this is mandatory) ----
Dragon’s Lair
Here’s a quick little Writer Wednesday thingy…I have not had time to write on the three things I desperately WANT to write on, but this popped out. It’s not great, but hopefully it will make someone happy.
SUMMARY: Frankie (single, no kid) is feeling out of sorts post the events of the movie, but doesn’t want to start replacing other addictions with drinking too much, so he looks for another hobby, where he meets you. You is written in the third person. No real description Save she is female and closer to Frankie’s age.
Food is mentioned. Video game type violence. Meet cute. Not even kissing…some light hand holding.
Thanks as always for #Writer Wednesday @autumnleaves1991-blog & @clydesducktape
Not bet’d
Tumblr media
Frankie needed a new thing — the bar was dangerously becoming another addiction, he could watch sports at home — he needed something to make him go out.
Then he saw the flier for the Nostalgia Bot Arcade.  “Not just for kids!” The flier declared in oddly childlike comic sans.  But Wednesdays through Saturdays it was open for 21+ only.
So why not? He thought, as he showered and dressed.
Because I’m not a dumb ass kid anymore.  He answered, as he pulled into the mall parking lot.  The Nostaliga Bot was in what used to be the major department store for the mall.
You’re allowed to have fun.  He reminded himself, as he pulled open the door.  The mall was mostly quiet, but the Nostalgia Bot was bright and lit up.  He shoved his hands in his pockets and wandered through.
He bought a game card and put some money on it.  The guy at the counter smiled and Frankie smiled back, trying to make the voices in his head that told him he wasn’t allowed to be here, that he was a creepy old man shut up.
There were fought simulators.  He put his hand on the round ball of the joystick and looked at it with fondness and longing tinged with regret.  He let his hand fall away.  He watched a couple of kids play Mortal Kombat for a bit.  See, that’s how you know your old.  Mortal Kombat looks too violent to you.   He shook his head when they offered to let him play, and moved on.
He sat down on the shooting sim, Deer Hunter.  He had to play something — he’d put in the money.  He shrugged and put in his card and followed the instructions.  He scored high…didn’t miss a beat.  Typing his name in with the buttons…Fish…didn’t make him feel any sense of accomplishment or victory.  It just made him feel tired.
“This was a stupid idea.”  He pulled himself out of the sim.  He didn’t want to pass the Mortal Kombat kids, so he decided to complete the circuit.
There, in the back, was Dragon’s Lair.  Stupid, cheesy, hilarious Dragon’s Lair.  He grinned despite himself…he’d loved the cartoons as a kid.
Someone was already playing it.  She turned and gave him a cute smile.  She was wearing a black tee shirt with a kitsune that say Zero Fox Given and jeans.  She was closer to his age but she seemed…free.  Like she genuinely gave zero f’s.
“I used to see this game all the time at the pizza joint my dad would take us to,”. Frankie said without thinking.  “He never let me play, said all these games were a damned waste of money.”
“Well…nothing;s stop;ping you now, honey,” she said in a soft, gentle voice.  “Unless you don’t join me?”
He stepped up to the right set of controllers.  “Tell me what to do…”
She says her name, prompting Frankie to introduce himself.
“Let’s start from the beginning,” she says.  And the Dragon Lair screen and intro started.
They played for way too long.  They ran themselves out of money on their cards, and ended up going to the snack bar.
“I saw you when you first came in,” she says, then takes a sip out of her Coke float.  “I thought, he’s going to leave the second he can.”
He nods, playing with the label on his rootbeer, peeling at it.  “I felt stupid…I mean, I’m…in my 40’s.”  He blushes a little.  “I should know what to do with myself, by now.”
“Says who?  I don’t…I started a business based on the idea that people might — just might — like to lose themselves in pretty colored lights and nonsense graphics for a bit.”
He’s impressed.  “This place is yours?”
She nods.  Steals a French fry out of his basket.  “My sister and her girlfriend handle the food, I handle the games.  I fix them when they go bad, mess with the card machine when it stops working.  I have a whole bowling alley I got at auction for cheap, and I’m trying to get it installed, but…”
“A whole…bowling alley?”
“Well.  You know.  The lanes, the machine, the chairs and the scoring thingy.  I can do the software set up, but the making the bowling machine work is sort of out of my league.”
He pauses.  “Was that a pun?”
She kicks him lightly.  “What?  And I supposed to leave the puns to the 40-something DILF’s I meet?”
He blushes again, then looks at her, right in the eyes.  “I’m not a dilf.”
She grins back.  “Good to know.”
He clears his throat.  “I’m good with mechanics.  And building things.  We find a manual…I can make it work.”
“Really?”
He nods.
“I’ll pay you.  And feed you.  And, like, give you all the cards for the machines you want.”
“We’ll see.”  He finds that he’s really enjoying the idea.  His day job was boring — it wasn’t flying.  He liked the idea of solving the puzzle, making something work again.
She takes his hand…more, rather, wraps her fingers around his thumb…and pulls him towards the back.  “Let me show you what I have.  You can totally back out…but the men’s department is towards the movie theater side?  And so the bowling alley has its own entrance, and…”
He followed her, grinning at her enthusiasm…and at his own, sudden, brilliant optimism.
Gold Rush
Jily (James Potter/Lily Evans), Minor wolfstar
Word Count: 4856
Lily didn’t expect to be having these feelings for James when 7th year starts. Featuring a jealous and pining Lily.
Read on AO3
When James caught her eye from across the Gryffindor table, she didn’t expect a fluttering feeling in her chest to blossom.
Summer had been kind to him in ways that almost made Lily angry. He seemed to grow into his features. His cheeks had lost all the baby fat, making sharp cheekbones appear, and he had gotten new glasses that seemed to frame his face a lot better and highlight his hazel eyes. The dimple in his left cheek still made appearances when he smirked and god, his jawline was heavenly. His voice had also deepened to a nice even baritone that when Lily first heard it, it had taken a second to realize that James had spoken.
Alarm bells started going off as he smiled at her. She quickly smiled and turned away, hiding the blush that was starting to form on her cheeks.
She could not be thinking about James Potter like that.
~~~
Lily hadn’t been particularly thrilled with having to share a living space with just him. It could be worse, as she had been expecting Remus and he wasn’t the tidiest. She had been in the boys’ dorm a few times and it was never messy, but Remus told her that it was because James cleaned it.
It hadn’t been bad, besides the fluttering in her stomach when he walked in.
Lily was reading a book on professional level charms, her legs stretched out on the sofa by the fireplace. The head dorm was nice and Lily wondered if it changed based on who were the heads that year because it resembled the Gryffindor common room closely, with more cushy furniture than necessary.
She was about to turn the page when the bookcase that hid the entrance swung open.
She hated the butterflies that formed in her stomach.
James stepped in, soaking from the rain. He had had Quidditch practice.
“It’s raining horribly,” he said as a greeting.
Lily opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. His hair was flat for once in his life and sticking to his forehead. He had a curl plastered on his forehead. His t-shirt was clinging to him. James wasn’t buff, but he was lean and his defined muscles were nothing to laugh at.
“I swear I almost drowned in mid-air,” he said. “Is that even a thing?”
“No, I don’t believe so,” Lily said, turning away and looking at her book. He got out his wand and started charming himself dry.
“Practice went okay otherwise,” he said, finally getting his shoes dry.
“How’s the new seeker?” she asked, not looking at James as he flung himself into the sofa across from her.
“Doing good. Just need to make a few improvements on her techniques,” he said.
Lily spared a glance and wished she didn’t. His legs were spread out and his head threw back, exposing his neck. She hoped that he didn’t see her blush.
“Who’s the first game against?” she asked.
“Ravenclaw,” he said. “They got a strong keeper, but I don’t think they’ll be a problem. Hufflepuff has a great line up though and it has me a bit worried.”
“It’ll be fine. Gryffindor always pulls through,” she said. James laughed a little.
“Yeah, but doesn’t mean I can’t try to eliminate a struggle,” he said. Lily looked up and saw he was looking at her. “I like it when I can crush them with little to no problems.”
Lily rolled her eyes.
“I think a struggle is a better show of feat,” she replied. “Shows how you work under pressure.”
“Ah, but when there’s no struggle, it shows that we don’t have any weakness,” he said.
“Spoken like a true Gryffindor,” Lily said.  James laughed and the butterflies in Lily’s stomach started up again.
James asked about what she was reading and she found that she forgot about the anxiety that had started to surround her when he was near. He was easy to talk to, always had been when they weren’t intent on arguing for the sake of arguing.
~~
When Lily joined in with James at the breakfast table of trying to throw sausages into Sirius’s mouth, that’s when she knew she had a problem.
Lily was never one for rules, especially if they were unfair. She upheld the ones she agreed to, sometimes bent them when she saw fit, but the outward display of joining in the Marauders was crossing an invisible line.
Lily didn’t see that line until Marlene pulled her aside after History of Magic and casted a silencing charm around them.
“So when did you realize you’re head over heels for James?” she asked. Count on Marlene to always jump straight to the point.
Lily almost dropped her books.
“What are you talking about?” she asked.
Marlene rolled her blue eyes at Lily.
“Come off it,” she said. “It’s obvious. The Lily that despised him fifth year would never have spent the morning trying to break his sausage-throwing record or share your notes with him.”
Lily felt angry.
“Just because I’m being friendly doesn’t mean I like him!” she hissed. Marlene was unphased by Lily’s anger.
“Oh Lily, don’t be upset. He’s fit as fuck and a decent guy,” she said. “I would be shocked if you didn’t!”
“You know how much I hate crushes,” Lily said, fighting the urge to stomp her foot like a child. “It’s pointless!”
Marlene laughed.
“Sometimes, you can’t fight it,” she said. She waved her wand and the silencing charm around them faded. “Let’s get to lunch.”
Lily walked beside her in silence, fuming.
There were a few reasons why Lily hated crushes. She hated how they painted the world in rose colored glasses, obscuring truths. She thought about the crush she had had on a 7th year Ravenclaw when she was in fifth year.
Lily didn’t remember his name, just that she had tried many times to speak to him when they were at the library at the same time. Lily felt like she was flying every time she saw him, with every word he spoke to her.
Then came the bone-crush. He kissed her one day over her charms homework and the next day she found out he had a girlfriend, a fourth year Hufflepuff.
Lily felt disgusting and immediately told her.
When she looked back at that experience, she felt hot anger and embarrassment. The rose colored world she had seen had blinded her from the truth.
She should have noticed how flippant he was when she asked him questions. How once he caught on to Lily’s crush, he would find a table in the back, out of the way from passersby. Lily had thought it was because he wanted alone time, not because he was hiding from his girlfriend or anyone who might rat on her.
She had vowed that she was never going to make an utter fool of herself again.
Lily pushed down her anger and looked forward to have a nice peaceful lunch with her friends that she missed so dearly. Alice, Dorcas, and Mary were waiting for them at the end of the table, but as Lily’s eyes looked on, she found a sight that made her almost vomit.
There was James, sitting across from Amelia Bones, a Hufflepuff in their year.
He was flashing her his signature smile and laughing at something she said, running a hand through his messy hair.
She peeled her eyes away and took her seat next to Alice, forcing herself not to stare at them.
She picked at her food and tried hard to pay attention to her friends.
“Hogsmeade is next week, right?” Lily asked, suddenly.
“Sure is,” Mary said, sipping some of her juice.
“I want to get plastered at the Three Broomsticks,” Lily said. The girls laughed.
“It’s date,” Marlene announced. “I’ve been waiting to see you drunk since you took that shot of firewhiskey.”
Lily rolled her eyes, thinking of the time Marlene snuck a firewhiskey up to their dorm last year and Lily almost threw up after one shot.
The girls started planning the trip.
Despite her resolve, she shot a glance at Amelia and James, who were just getting up from the table. James met her eyes and winked at her, to which Lily rolled her eyes because it let her do something other than blush.
~~~
Lily would be an idiot if she thought that she was the only one to notice James. That didn’t mean she had to like it though.
James had been asked out three times in one breakfast and though she had no claim to him, it was grating on her nerves.
“So Prongs,” Sirius started as the brave third year who just asked James this morning left. “You’re turning into quite a lady killer.”
James snorted.
“I’m starting to think someone is cursing them,” he said. “It’s mental.”
“Face it, Prongs,” Sirius said. “You’re a hot ticket item.”
“They’re dying to have your babies,” Remus said, not looking up from his copy of the Daily Prophet.
“They’re going to kidnap you and force you to go on a date with them,” Peter added.
“Probably going to slip you some love potion,” Lily said. James whipped his head and looked at her.
“I expect them to gang up on me, but you Evans? Betrayal,” he said.
Lily smiled and bit back the green monster that was going to reel it’s head if she thought about it too hard.
“I know what’s going on,” she said.
“Please, be our insight into the female mind,” Sirius said, brushing a strand of dark hair behind his ear.
Lily rolled her eyes.
“Teenagers are horny,” she said. “James is headboy, plays Quidditch. Every fifteen year old’s dream.”
Lily kept her eyes on her tea as she took a sip. She could feel his eyes on her. What she really wanted to say is that she got it. She got why these girls were dying for James. Lily herself felt like she would die in order to have James touch or snog.
She was trying to get that to stop.
“And he’s fit,” Remus said. Sirius glared at his boyfriend. “Objectively speaking. Not my type, sorry James.”
“I don’t take it personally,” James grumbled, taking it personally.
“Just be happy you can get a date,” Peter said. “I can’t get one for the life of me!”
“How about this Pete,” James said, resting his elbows on the table. “Tell me who you fancy and I’ll ask their bestfriend out and see if I can’t get a double date?”
Here was the bone-crush. Here is where the misery came and grabbed Lily.
“You’d do that for me?” Peter asked, his eyes wide.
“Once,” he said. “I’m going to help you woo the pants off of this girl and hope you get a second date on your own.”
If Peter said who he fancied, it was lost on Lily. She stared at the cup of tea in front of her, watching the surface of the liquid vibrate.
She could imagine going on a date with him, so vividly it hurts. She could practically picture walking with him down the slope, hand in hand. Sitting across from him at the Three Broomsticks and stealing his chips. And that image hurt as she watched them plan their double date.
James nudged Lily, jarring herself out her thoughts.
“Time for Transfig,” he said. “Ready?”
Lily nodded and stood up. As she grabbed her bag, she saw Remus watching her. He gave her a small smile and she tried to return it.
James, Sirius, and Peter were already walking ahead of them when Remus came beside her.
“So, I take it you’re against the double date?” he asked as they started up the stairs.
“No, why would I?” she asked quickly.
Remus sighed deeply and just shook his head. They caught up to the other boys.
~~~
Once Lily heard James was taking Amelia Bones to Hogsmeade, she was even more determined to get wasted at the Three Broomsticks. She was a rational person. She knew that getting wasted to forget a stupid crush was immature, but she could be immature for a night.
She put more effort into her appearance than normally for a girls night out. Normally she would be fine with jeans and a jumper, but Mary had suggested they act like they were going to the hottest nightclub in the U.K.
Lily didn’t have a lot of clothes appropriate for that, but Mary was her size and had tons of sparkling dresses that she was willing to let Lily borrow.
Mary had picked a gold sequined dress that was a little shorter than Lily was used to, but she knew she could make it work. It was strapless and Lily had a slightly bigger breast than Mary, so Lily placed a sticking charm on the sweetheart neckline.
Lily also did some beauty charms. One to make her hair have more beachy waves than her own slightly sad waves. The make-up charms turned out better than she thought as her emerald eyes looked bigger with the eyeliner charm.
She checked the time, gave herself one final look over, and then grabbed her coat, and left her room, stepping out in the common room. She heard something fall as she closed the door.
James was standing at his door, staring at Lily like he was deer caught in the headlights.
He was ready for his date, a nice dark green shirt and pants that had been pressed. He looked good and Lily hated it.
“Evans, what are you wearing?” he asked. Lily looked down at her dress.
“A dress?”
“You look…” he started, eyeing her up and down. “Stunning.”
Lily felt her cheeks heat up.
“Thanks. It’s for the girl’s night,” she said. The air felt awkward as the silence fell.
James looked away, clearing his throat.
“Where are you going? For the girl’s night,” he asked, picking up his wand that he had dropped.
“Three Broomsticks,” Lily replied. “Where’s your date?”
“Madam Padifoots,” he replied.
“Aw, that’s romantic,” Lily said, forcing a smile.
“Pete picked it,” he said. “I would rather be drowning in some Butterbeer.”
Silence fell again. Lily wanted to say something, but she found it hard. James hadn’t looked at her since he picked up his wand.
“Well, have a good time,” Lily said, making her way to the bookcase.
“Same,” James said.
The walk down was freezing, but once Lily sat in a booth, squished between Mary and Dorcas, she realized it was worth it.
They started out with some food, but soon enough the drinks kept coming. Lily felt wobbly as her and Mary sang a Muggle song on the top of their lungs. She was spinning when Alice admitted her and Frank had had sex in his childhood bedroom over the summer.
She was absolutely gone with Remus and Sirius stood at the end of the booth.
“You lot are cut off for the rest of the night,” Remus said. Lily started giggling at his stern expression.
“Oi! Remy,” Mary said, her words slurred. “How big is Black? We have a bet.”
“I’ll have you know I’m packing,” Sirius said, not the least bit phased.
Lily snorted.
“He’s average,” Remus replied. All the girls started laughing. Lily felt tears in her eyes as Sirius elbowed Remus.
“He’s joking,” Sirius said. Remus shook his head, unknown to Sirius, and the laughter started again.
“We’re escorting back to the castle,” Remus said.
The loud “aw” that escaped their lips was enough to make the rest of the bar turn and look at them.
Marlene almost fell when she tried to walk and Remus ran out for a second. He came back with James.
Normal, sober Lily would be ashamed of herself in the morning.
“James!” she yelled. James smiled and widened his eyes. “I’m drunk!”
James ran a hand through his hair and smiled, his dimple making an appearance.
“I can see that, Lils,” he said.
He helped her up off the bench and caught her as she stumbled. His hand was warm on her arm and goose flesh appeared.
“Let’s try to get you back in one piece, alright?” he said.
“Carry me,” she said, giggling. James gave her a look she was too drunk to read into.
“I will if I have too,” he said.
He helped her put her coat on and then placed his arm around her in order to steady her walk.
The rest of the group was in front of them. Mary and Dorcas, stumbling, but they were fine compared to Alice, Marlene, and Lily. Alice was Sirius’s back while Marlene was basically using Remus as a cane.
“Where’s Peter?” Lily asked.
“He had a pretty nice date,” James replied. “I think they’re still out.”
At the mention of the date, Lily pouted.
“So your date was nice?” she asked. She hated that tears were forming in her eyes.
James took a moment to answer.
“I mean, Amelia and I just talked about our Divination project. I told her it was for Pete,” he said. “We aren’t interested in each other.”
Lily’s heart soared and her eyes dried.
“Why’d you get all dressed up if it wasn’t a real date?” she slurred.
“Because it was real for Pete and Ingrid,” he replied.
“It’s a shame,” Lily said, frowning.
“What’s a shame?”
“That Amelia could pass you up looking like that!” Lily said, stumbling into him a bit. “I mean your arse looks fantastic! Almost as good as your Quidditch pants.”
James paused for a second and Lily almost tripped but James caught her and steadied her.
“You’re more drunk than I thought,” James said. Drunk Lily didn’t notice the tightness in her voice.
“Yes,” she said. “And it’s fantastic!”
“You won’t be saying that tomorrow,” he mumbled.
The boys brought them all back to the head dorm, which made the girls squeal and get excited about a sleepover. James deposited Lily on the couch and quickly made his way over to the potion station in the corner of the room.
“I love the dorm!” Alice chirped, looking around.
“These couches are ten times better than the ones in the tower,” Marlene said, curling up on the couch by Dorcas.
“I agree,” Mary said.
Lily’s eyes wandered to James, who was at the potion station. She was staring at him, but was jared when Sirius sat next to her.
“How many drunk head girls do you think entered this dorm?” he said, smirking at her.
Lily threw a pillow at him.
“Probably all of them,” she replied. “You don’t make head girl without a dash of mischief.”
Sirius raised his eyebrows at her.
“Lily Evans and mischief? I find that unlikely,” he said. Lily felt offended.
“Who hexed Avery to make his voice high pitched, huh?” she said, crossing her arms.
Sirius widened his steel blue eyes.
“That was you?” he said.
“Of course it was bloody me! He called me a mudblood and I just snapped!” she fired back.
“That’s not mischief then Lils, that’s justice,” he said. Lily laughed, loudly.
“And I’d do it again,” she said. “I also stole Snape’s potion essay once.”
“Evans!” Sirius said, clutching his chest like he was scandalized.
“He was being a prat! He kept going on and on about he was the best in potions! So I took his essay before it was due,” she said, rather proudly. “He got detention and I found a major error in his essay. I circled it and stuffed it back into his bag.”
Laughter erupted around her, making her feel warm and proud. Alice was clutching her side.
“What else have you done, Evans?” Sirius enquired, leaning back on the cushions and crossing his legs.
Lily hummed and thought for a second.
“I changed James’ quidditch robes to neon pink in fifth year,” she said.
“That was you?!” James exclaimed from across the room. “I didn’t talk to Sirius for a week!”
Sirius doubled over with laughter.
“I remember that!” Mary said, clapping her hands. “You did it because James threw a piece of parchment at you and asked you out in the middle of the hallway!”
Lily remembered it and laughed.
“He was such an arse!” she said.
“Was, did you say Evans?” Sirius inquired.
“Yes, was,” she confirmed. Sirius shot her a look.
The conversation drifted away from Lily’s mischief to how Mary engorged Marlene’s tongue when she thought she told the school one of her secrets. Lily’s eyes drifted back to James, who was bent over a steaming cauldron. Lily, ever the potions master, decided she must know what he was making.
She wobbled across the room and stood next to James, so close their arms bumped.
“Whatchya making?” she asked.
“A sober-up potion for you lot,” he said. “Then I’ll make a hangover-be-gone tomorrow for you guys.”
“I don’t want to sober up,” Lily pouted. She grabbed James’s arm and leaned her head against it. James didn’t say to protest it.
“You’ll be thanking me in the morning,” he said with a smirk. Lily rolled her eyes.
He was finely chopping the roots and Lily watched him, her could feel the muscles on his arms move, but she didn’t want to move and James wasn’t pushing her away.
“Shouldn’t you dice them?” she asked. James scoffed.
“You’re drunk and you’re still critiquing my potions,” he said.
“I wouldn’t have to critique if you did it the right way.” James erupted in laughter.
“Trust me, Evans. I’ve made this a few times,” he said. Lily didn’t reply, she just watched the cauldron bubble from her spot on James’s arm.
“I’m sorry about asking you out that way in fifth,” he mumbled.
“It’s okay,” she said. “You were just an obnoxious little boy.”
“You don’t think I'm still an obnoxious little boy?”
“Nope,” she said. “You would have never made headboy if that was the case.”
“True,” he said. He turned the potion off and stirred it until it was a clear color. Lily let go of his arm once he was ready to pour it for them.
Lily drank hers and watched as James started handing out the rest to her friends.
As the minutes ticked by, she realized she was going to regret a lot in the morning.
~~~
Lily remembered everything of her drunken night clearly, which is why she was determined to put as much space as possible between her and James.
She told him he had a nice arse! That was something she could never come back from. Ever.
He didn’t mention it and she was grateful for it. He did get her back from making his Quidditch uniform pink and during breakfast when her black robes turned a stunning shade of pink. When she made eye contact with James down the table, twirling his wand in his fingers, she just laughed. She left them that color for the rest of the day.
The only thing is that James started walking closer to her in the corridors when they patrolled together. His arm brushing against hers constantly. She often wondered what would happen if she just grabbed this hand. Which is why she started making the distance bigger.
Lily was spending her time in their shared common room when he was gone or at practice. She knew the time that James would be in and made sure to either be at the library, her bedroom, or in the Gryffindor Tower with the girls.
She was packing her things up, about to move to her bedroom before James came back from practice. She wasn’t expecting the bookcase to swing open ten minutes early and reveal a sweaty James Potter.
She fought the urge to get up and run without saying anything, but she held firm and tried to put her books away without looking like she was trying to do so as fast as she could.
“Hey Evans,” James said, smiling a little at her.
“Hey Potter,” Lily said as evenly as she could, darting her eyes back to her textbook.
“I feel like I haven’t seen you in a hot minute,” James said.
Lily glanced up to see him standing by the couch.
“We ate breakfast together,” she pointed out.
“You sat like, three people away from me,” he said.
Lily took a deep breath. She was getting irate and couldn’t quite place why.
“I talked to you in Transfiguration,” she pointed out.
She heard James sigh.
“I just asked to borrow a quill,” he said.
Something in his tone made Lily look at him. He was standing at the side of the couch looking utterly frustrated, running a hand through his damp hair.
“I don’t know what you’re getting at,” Lily said, looking back at her book before their eyes could meet.
There was a heavy silence.
“I don’t get you,” he said after a moment.
“‘Get me’?” Lily asked, snapping her book shut. Lily looked up and saw that James looked frustrated.
“One minute, I feel like we’re finally getting on and then next you act like I’m a second year who just wants to pull your hair,” James said.
“We are getting on,” Lily said, crossing her arms.
“Are we?” he questioned.
Lily stood up, anger flaring in her stomach.
“Well, we were,” she said, crossing her arms.
James took a deep breath and turned away from Lily.
“Can you just tell me what is going on?” he snapped. “I know I’ve done some pretty shitty things in the past. I’ve been trying to be better! Snape cursed me in the hallway and I didn’t curse him back because I knew you’d be upset!”
James opened his mouth like he was going to say more, but he quickly shut it. He just stared at her from across the room, his chest heaving slightly. Lily had seen an angry James quite a few times, but there was something in his eyes that showed Lily he was more hurt than anything.
“It’s not your fault,” Lily said, holding his gaze.
“What isn’t?” he asked.
“Me being weird,” she said, throwing her hands up.
“Explain it to me. Because one second you’re telling me I have a nice arse and the next, you can’t even look at me,” he said.
As Lily stood across from James, she realized that there was no way out of this mess besides the truth. Lily didn’t know if she was ready to throw her cards down, but God, she couldn’t take it anymore.
“Because I can’t stop thinking about you!” she yelled. “Every bloody day, I see girls tripping over themselves to get a scrap of your attention and I feel like I’m a fool!”
James’s jaw dropped as Lily fell silent. She felt heat rise in her cheeks and wishes she could stuff the words back into her mouth.
“What changed?” James asked. It was so low, Lily almost didn’t hear it. His eyes kept her captivated.
“A lot of things,” she replied. “Like the fact that you weren’t an utter tosser last year and this year.”
“You told me I was one quite a few times if I remember correctly,” James said, a smirk on his face.
Lily smiled a little, despite the feeling that she messed something up between them.
“It was different,” she said. “You just… know how to make people laugh, even when teasing them.”
James smiled, wide and bright and Lily finally looked away, choosing to stare out the window and look at the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds that were outside.
“I don’t want to get hurt James,” she said.
Lily felt him walk over.
“Why do you think I’d ever hurt you, Evans?” he whispered from beside her.
“Because you’ll realize there are better options out there,” she said. James snorted.
“I have nothing against the other girls in Hogwarts, but I doubt there is anyone that could ever compare to you, Lily,” he said. “Especially to me.”
James placed a hand on her shoulder and Lily turned to look at him. He was still sweaty from Quidditch, his glasses were crooked, but Merlin, she had never seen a better sight.
“Fancy a dinner in Hogsmeade?” he asked. She smiled.
“Hogsmeade is in two weeks,” she pointed out.
“I’m not waiting two weeks,” he said. “We don’t have patrols tonight. I’ll be ready in twenty, if you want to go with me that is.”
Lily hesitated for a second, not because of James, but because sneaking out. James seemed to get this.
“You said yourself, ‘what’s a head girl without a little mischief?’” he pointed out. Lily smiled and nodded.
Lily didn’t think James’s smile could get wider but it did.
“Give me twenty minutes!” he said, moving to turn around and rush to his dorm.
“Wait a second,” she said, causing James to pause.
Lily threw all caution to the wind . Just cupped James’s face and brought it down to hers, capturing it in a kiss that made Lily wish she had done this sooner.
Tenalice #smut (Ten(alice) x you) 🔞
When your boyfriend decides to try on his Halloween costume again, he never expects you to come in from that door and mutters a curse before seeing your eyes changed. He saw the fire in your eyes and Ten knows, tonight will be a long ass ride for him, or maybe you ?
Warning : basically a pw(ith(out))plot. Naughty!Tenalice, you taking control, him teasing you too, steamy photographic session, more teasing and flirting... and a lot of sweet naughty talks. A plot twist too! Smut do not proceed if you're not old enough.... this is my messy brain doing its job to disturb me
Here's a naughty!Tenalice because my wild imagination cannot stop thinking about Tenalice. (Istg i am in my final weeks and this plot is stuck in my head)
Tumblr media
You never expect this day to come, a day where you are super tired from work. Your boss has been shitty about your work, she has you redone all the proposals for a photoshoot, and you can't hold yourself back when you saw the notification from YouTube about your boyfriend's group costume party. To be precise princess costume party. You caught a glimpse of Ten dressing up as Alice and fuck he's hot. For the sake of your wellbeing, you do not watch the video in the office and choose to watch it later at home. But things are way better. You got home at night super drained and annoyed that all you want to do is jump into the hot shower and sleep. You can already feel the fluffy feeling of the big bed when you take the elevator to your house.
Once the door opens, you're greeted with a pair of shoes. You smile when you know Ten is already homed. Slowly you step into the kitchen to wash your hands, but he is not there. You check the living room and still there's no sign of him. You hear a soft giggle from your room and your ears perk. Without noise, you turn the knob to your room and what a beautiful scene lays before your eyes.
“Fuck-“
Ten gasps and turns his body around from facing the big body mirror you installed in your room to see you. His hands cover his face when he caught your jaw hanging upon seeing him fully dressed in his Alice costume. The tiredness in your body disappeared (as if it's never there) when you see just how perfect Ten looks like in that tiny costume. His long legs are covered in a thigh high black and white striped stocking, the typical blue and white dress hugs his waist perfectly and his golden wig completes his pretty character. You gulp feeling heat rushing over your body and a smirk come to your face when Ten acts all shy being busted.
"Oh sorry didn't know you're here," you pretended to look around. Ten pulls his hands away from his face and cross his hands over his chest.
"No problem, I didn't hear you coming in." He shyly stares into the ground.
You step into the room and close the door, taking your body to stand in front of him. "You look pretty! Super pretty," you bite your lips as you force his body to spin so you can eye him from all angle. Ten blushes for he secretly likes it, but pretends he is annoyed. "Aish what are you saying," he pouts, and you shoot him a look "look at you," you force him to face the mirror. "Just look... can Alice look this pretty and tempting?" You whisper next to his ears.
Ten shudders at your words. "I was just trying it back because the fans are wilding over the video... and i just want to see if I really look like the video." He tries to make an alibi. Your eyes scan the room and you caught your lights for taking pictures on, you also see a tiny bit of mess there he has on your make up table and you try your best to hide your laugh.
"I think you're doing more than that honey, you're planning to... take a photo I guess?" You walk to your cabinet and take out your camera. It's been a while, you enjoy photography (duhh it's your job) and Ten has been a great model for your clothing blog, but maybe just this one time you can try to take cute pictures of him in this tempting little Alice dress.
Ten was about to peel off the costume if not for your scream of "Wait!" He pauses and shoots you a questioning look. "Since you're in that already, why don't you be good for me and be my muse for tonight?" You already set up your camera and lights. He stutters, wow Ten lee stutters before you is something rare, "If that's what you want, then I guess I cannot object." You kiss him quick appreciating how cooperative he is.
"May I?" You ask before polishing his face with some powder and a blush. He nods and just closes his eyes, allowing you to paint faint colors on his glass skin. And with the last stroke of lip gloss, and him smacking his lips... you really need to hold yourself back before wrecking him.
"How do you want me to pose?" He asks but rather in a shy way like this is his first photo session with you. You smirk, "Oh Ten you do know how to tease me don't you?" He just ignores you and once you bring up your camera to your eye, he's no longer Ten. He's the shy but playful yet daring Tenalice.
You really have to hold yourself back when he poses professionally on his knees and his acting is not kidding. "Oh gosh Ten you look so..." you bite your lips unable to continue speaking when he changes his pose again and even to a more daring position. He smirks over his golden hair and bites his lips when your camera happens to focus on his upper body only and damn you will print these pictures and make an album out of it.
This photo session starts with an innocent pose and as your clicks go on, Ten becomes more bolder. He's almost making you scream stop because you can feel the pool in your panties. You lost your cool when he suggests you to be bolder in taking the pics.
"Honey what about we make this a catalogue for your side blog," he suddenly sounds naughty and challenging.
"What side blog?"
"Oh you know the one for adults," he shrugs his shoulder.
You shake your head "I don't have any side blogs. What do you mean?" He stands up from the floor, walks to the bed and with one spin that causes a sliver of his thigh comes into light, he plops himself down on the fluffy mattress. He sits down on the bed, on his knees and suddenly opens them just enough for you to see his lace underwear covering his hardness.
Your grip tightens on your camera and you shake your head "Am I hearing things?" He takes your arm and pulls you to sit on the edge of the bed, carefully he runs a hand over your back, "No you hear me right. You can just not include my face in my pics right? A back picture or just from the torso downward?"
You close your eyes and cup his face "Are you trying to tell me you're into semi-exhibitionism now?" He shyly runs his finger on your arm, "Whatever you call it, I just don't want my effort in wearing this costume ends in vain." You put your camera on the side and think for a while, well you can always take the pictures and never post them, right? You don't really like sharing the view of your boyfriend to random horny internet users, moreover what will his career be if the world finds out he has a catalogue of that naughty Alice pictures posted by his girlfriend?!
"Honey" his voice lures you in, "we don't have to post them... take a picture for me?" He asks in that sweet pleading voice you can never say no to. With that, your smirk reappears on your face and your hand runs along his stocking up to his thigh and with one whack on his ass you peck him "You asked for it, don't be shy when I ask you to do more, I am taking control of you tonight." Ten hides a smirk, deep inside his heart he knows you won’t ever win a game in taking control and he’ll proof it again tonight.
He almost squeal like a happy teenage girl, but his excitement doesn't allow him. You tie your hair up and change first into a comfortable shorts and tees, your working outfit was drenched in sweat too gosh you cannot handle the heat he radiates. "Have you ever worked with a project like this?" Ten asks after you get your cameras ready again. You shake your head, "I did an underwear photoshoot once for Lay and gosh I cannot take any job like that again..." you blush when you remember how it affects your concentration for weeks since you also have to do the editing.
Ten bounces on his knees "Ehem your boyfriend is here can we just finish this faster," he whines and you nod "Okay okay.. impatient, aren't we? Now pose and act like I’m not here."
With each naughty pose he strikes you can see him also struggling to keep his face straight and you're starting to squirm too. "Um Ten," you take out your camera from your neck and turn it off then keep it away on the table. You can no longer take his game, no he's toying on you and shouldn't you be the one toying him?!
"Oh you're done?" He suddenly turns his head to look at you from his shoulder. Well for the last one he was showing his back and posing for you, that's when you decided you cannot do more. You dip into the mattress and straddle Tenalice under you. He brushes his bangs away from his eyes and holds your waist in place. Gently your finger traces his arms down to his stone abs and to his thigh, carefully you pull up his skirt aside and without breaking eye contact, your fingers found the texture of the lace panties and Ten gasps a low moan.
You snigger, “Oops,” and slip your palm to grab his member. He whimpers when you tease him.
“Oh don’t tease me,” he exhales when you’re just touching his tip.
You shrug your shoulder, did not minister him at all just loosely grab them, feel yourself on his thigh and Tenalice brings himself to kiss you. He grasps your hand and takes it away from his aching member, “Baby if you’re only going to tease me, you better stop. You wake up the beast.”
In a second, Ten flips you on your back and latches his lips into yours. This time, he’s the one who takes control, “You’ve teased me now It’s my time to teach you a lesson honey.” His voice is still his honey Tenalice voice, but you know better not to talk back at him, not when the fire in his eyes is the same glint you got on the other hard nights.
“For your information Tenalice, you are the one teasing me. Don’t you have a great time posing for me for the cam and oh you’re going wild when you saw me squirm,” you talked back, though you know you shouldn’t.
Ten laughs, “That is the whole point honey, to make you think you’re teasing me but actually I am the one playing you. Look at you,” his palm ghost over your cheek, down to your chest over the valley to the aching wet pleasure bundle in you. You stifle your moan and bite your lips, your eyes close automatically when he gently flicks over the swollen bud. Ten giggles and kisses your neck, he bites and sucks on you. “You’re so pliant for me, so wet, so ready.”
You shake your head; this isn’t supposed to happen. You were thinking of taking control but look at you already devastated by seeing him in his Alice character and you’re once again under him. You toss your mind aside, winning can come next time, now the only thing you need is pleasure.
“You’re losing little bunny,” he smirks when he slips one of his long fingers into you and you’re already stuffing your hand over your lips. “Look at my white rabbit losing to Alice, just let go honey. I want to hear your voice.” He adds one more and thrusts into you quickly.
You pull his head for a deep kiss and with that, Ten knows he successfully tease you, makes you lose your mind and he knows you will find a way to win over him, but that is the whole point of doing this. He planned to tease you and make you lose.
“Ten,” you plead when he takes out his fingers when you’re super close to your ecstasy. Your pretty boyfriend gently rubs your back, “Why?” he pulls you up into his lap and you’re already whimpering when his hardness touches you. He wants you to say the word, to admit you lose but you’re finding it hard to say the word, not when he’s teasing you and staring you with his innocent eyes.
“Say it honey, I cannot read minds. Alice needs you to use your words.” He brushes your hair away from your face and your eyes are already teary. Your gaze was hazy and your head cannot think of anything else.
You take a deep breathe and gaps when Ten’s cold hand reaches your nape, you close your eyes and finally admit it.
“I lost, please just finish what you started,” you open your eyes to meet his dark eyes and a very small smirk comes from his mouth, “As you wish honey, just enjoy your ride. Tenalice is here to satisfy your fantasy.”
You blush, did he actually find out you like seeing him cross dressing, you swear if this is what you get and how he looks every time he wears a costume, you’ll buy him more dresses and number one list will be a maid dress. No question.
“Tell me do you love Ten or Tenalice more?” he asks once the two of you have finished a long ride. In the dark room, filled with sweat and reeks of love shots, you cuddle into your boyfriend’s chest. His costume is already gone on the floor along with yours and his wigs. He kept it on for a while, but ends up getting out of it in the end.
You hum for a while and while tracing random circles over his body you whisper, “I might need to see the other personalities too, but Tenalice is on my favorite list after Ten Lee,”
He chuckles ang hugs you closer, “Did I make too much bites?”
You shake your head, “I don’t mind, isn’t that a good thing people knows I belong to you? I’m quite surprised Alice likes to bite. Is she a vampire now?”
Ten laughs and just pulls you into another deeper kiss, “I love you, thank you for making this possible.”
You smile, “So, do we print out your pictures and sell them online?”
He smacks your ass and you whine “Were you trying to make use of the property that only you can see?”
You hit him back, “You were the one asking for it first.”
He ruffles your hair, “It was the air.”
You snicker, “Don’t be surprised if one day they are on the web.”
“I won’t be surprised. Besides I have a lot of your pics too, might even expose you honey. Eye for an eye” he winks and pulls the sheet to cover your two entangled bare bodies.
“I’m sleepy but I want to shower,” you yawn. Ten kisses you nose, “Sleep first, I’ll wake you up for shower later.”
“Love you Ten and Tenalice,” you mumble.
danny phantom 8-13 thoughts! again, under the cut bc I blew through 6 episodes in one go...
-LOVE THE WAY THE GHOST ZONE LOOKS. but theres fucking ghost cops??? ghost jail??? that SUCKS imagine dying and going to jail in your AFTERLIFE. danny going to JAIL WAS NOT something I expected. but seeing all the enemies together and work with danny to bust out. SO ICONIC I love that actually. and the thing about real world stuff acting as ghosts in the ghost zone is very cool.
-'there are some things more important that hunting ghosts!' mrs fenton says, about her husband forgetting their anaversary (FOR THE 18TH YEAR IN A ROW?? CHRIST) and not about, idk, their son clearly freaked out. she didnt even notice he was gone into the ghost zone!!! he might be a bad husband BUT shes not the best mom. they suck and I don't care about their relationship problems I care about these kids. danny doing his best to clean the house to keep his mom from getting mad at his dad?? hes such a good boy I want to cry, this is not his place, his dad should be cleaning his own shit up!!!
-maddie's butch lesbian sister is living my best life in her lil cabin. also being a snarky bitch to jack. queen. and her getting a 10th anniversary of her divorce. LOVE IT.
-mr. lancer being a cheerleader in his younger years makes perfect sense to me. king shit.
-dr. spectra's cat ears/mullet hairstyle?? sooo cute. I also just love the concept of a ghost just. sucking out people's positivity and feeding on emotions. a great villain. she put danny in a fucking diaper what the FUCK. and keeping it cold so no one would suspect shes a ghost??? INCREDIBLE. and her gay little blob sidekick. wlw mlm evil solidarity.
-JAZZ FOCUSED EP. YEAAAH!!! her first thought when she saw the ghosts was like 'omg i gotta tell danny :)' and her going to the teacher and also councilor trying to get help for him...shes just 16 but shes trying so hard to help him out :( watching this when youre younger I can imagine ppl are like omg annoying!! but watching this when im older im just like :( jazz baby im SO sorry </3 SHE BODIED THAT GHOST THOUGH. and the fact she didnt tell danny she knew surprised me. like, shes patient and waiting on him to tell her when hes ready!! thats so so sweet.
-christ the parents talking about 'PEELING IT LIKE AN ONION. AND EXAMINING REMAINS' of ghosts RIGHT INFRONT OF DANNY.
-'why am i so depressed and angry all the time!!' DANNY YOURE 14. i mean it IS a ghost this time, but...
-579$ top?? VALERIE NO ITS NOT EVEN CUTE IT DOESNT EVEN GO WITH THAT OUTFIT AAAA. tho this ep is called shades of gray..VALERIE FOCUSED EP FINALLY????! *THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE* I already knew about red huntress from my redesigns, but I didn't exactly know what that entails or how/why, so, it's fun to see the Origins.
-ghost pubby! ghost pubby!!!!! why is the dog a ghost?? the implication that the company had guard dogs and got rid of them...what did they DO. is it just the unfinished business?? of not having that toy it was looking for?? god I hope so.
I feel SOOO bad for valerie tho, my god. her friends are shunning her for what, because her dad lost her job and she had to move??? horrible. (and the fact the dog wrecked the moving van too...) I also love how 'from wisconsin' on the package was an IMMEDIATE RED FLAG FOR ME. WISCONSIN=EVIL NOW. vlads so petty.
-it took valerie like 5 mins to get the hang of hunting ghosts and shes already a much bigger threat than his parents tbh. who've been trying and studying this for years. and a more valid reason <3 love her shes so cute and cool. new daughter alert.
-'i should do SOMETHING to help valerie' no shit danny???
-'who is that, awesome outfit!' -top gay sam moments. i was going to say. before it immediately cuts to sam kissing danny LMFAOOO. don't think I like that, it puts tucker in a weird third wheel position... the next ep involves them holding hands and blushing when danny's cold...URGH No. not a fan ngl. the trope of 'if theres a girl in a trio she has to end up with one of the two guys!!'
-right as I say that they take it to extremes!! and ember shoots him with a love ray gun that makes him OBSESSIVE OVER SAM. AND SHE TAKES HIS HANDS AND SAYS 'YOU DONT FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT ME, I DONT FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT YOU' and her saying she doesnt want to be together like this. and tucker saying 'i always knew you two would get together!!' dont manifest it tucker please. the show pushing for it so hard makes me not want it KSHKJKJD I KNOW its probably canon. it sucks though. im a hater.
-vlad just LURKING AROUND THE SCHOOL GIVING VALERIE GIFTS ASJKDHKJ YOU WEIRD PETTY OLD MAN GO HOME!!!
-EMBERRRRR YOU WILL REMEMBERRRRRR . this is the one thing I kinda remember from when I was a kid EMBERRRRR ilu. top 10 cartoon bops. sams being a hater. popular things are popular for a reason. mr. lancer also being a hater. also everyone wearing her color scheme ..its a really good look, the purple, black, and minty color...
-penguins exist in the ghost zone. confirmed.
-EMBER JUST SHOWING UP AT A RANDOM HIGHSCHOOL TO PLAY?? UNANNOUNCED, MID DAY??? girl get a tour schedule. make some money or smth damn. I know shes probably doing it for the power boost but. lord. anyway if your show doesnt have a concert scene/ep, is it even valid.
Tumblr media
-fellas is this gay. (she uses a GRAPPLING HOOK TO SHOOT OUT THE WINDOW AFTER SEEING AN EMBER VAN GO BY RIGHT AFTER THIS SHOT)
Tumblr media
-hey, she had an undercut at some point!! my redesign!!! was accurate!! in..a way
-I feel like danny has a lot of pent up aggression ngl, him being heartbroken about sam and immediately going IM GONNA GO TAKE IT OUT ON EMBER. I mean she needs to be stopped I guess But. jazz has the right idea he needs therapy and a HEALTHY outlet.
-tucker singing > my singing
-girls cant be gamers -tucker and danny sexist moments. her being chaos in the game OWNED.
-TUCKERS HAT IS A BERET??? I THOUGHT IT WAS A BEANIE. SAM CALLED IT A BERET. WH.
-it was actually nice of lancer to let danny retake the test, and he go to play games again. smh. epic cringe gamer moments compilation. and driving him home!!! I actually like him as a character. anyway teachers like lancer are SO appreciated. I was failing middle school because of mental problems, and felt so dumb and got embarrassed by teachers who would just get onto me instead of bothering to ask what the real problem was, but when I was taking my ged classes I had a wonderful teacher who kept reassuring me that I was smart, and I got honors!! danny is SUCH a little shit to him (understandable, 14, but) but seeing them getting along better and danny putting in effort. SO CUTE. THATS MY SON, STUDYING HARD!!!! and being so PROUD OF HIMSELF!!! 91!!! BITCH!!! A- is STILL AN A!!!
-'why dont they ever realize thats me in a dress' mr lancer i am CRYING. i realized.
-technus being my ghost grandpa who cant game asking tucker for help. bless his heart. his out of date old ppl lingo circles back to being endearing <3 tucker not recognizing him despite the like, lack of any kind of serious disguise...I do love their lil in-game outfits....sam being the tank rules. I like technus' spider design also. more characters need to be giant freaky spiders, imo.
-finding your gf a new host because she cant maintain her ghost body outside the zone? amazing. using jazz as the host? ILL KILL YOU. jazz immediately accepting a ride home from a guy she just met and letting him know where she lives. letting him IN THE HOUSE??? nooo girl no lets use common sense </3
-sooo cringe the parents were like 'good job for spying on your sister' tho wtffff. doesnt matter if hes a bad guy, thats fucked. everytime these parents BREATHE im like. these are MY kids now <3
-BAD LUCK BEING A THEME OF THE 13TH EPISODE. thats super fun. johnny 13 being his name is so. iconic. your last name is a NUMBER? also goth tucker. I actually love the look. everyone looks good goth. 'the ladies love the eyeliner and onyx nail polish' sam you are sooo right every man needs to at least try those two things. im a lesbian and I agree. same, danny, your bff is gnc af
-LOVE kitty's design. and just, the concept of a ghost with a bike. couple goals, except yes stay away from jazz.
the art of making a move at a kegger
jj x reader
Tumblr media
word count: 2877
warnings: drinking, cursing, and towards the end almost sexual content but not actually
synopsis: harboring feelings for jj + getting drunk doesn’t always equal the smoothest of times but it all works out in the end
requested by @maybebanks really hope you like it!
JJ wasn’t on your radar until he slept through three quizzes in a row during your 8:00 a.m. English freshman year. He sat across from you, and you thought he was pretty cute, even when he started showing up wearing Pike letters. Which coincidentally is when he started falling asleep during quizzes.
One morning, when the professor left the room and you were packing your backpack, you heard JJ clear his throat. You glanced up, unsure if it was for you or not, and caught him smiling at you sheepishly.
“Hey,” he mumbled, running a hand through his unruly hair, “I was wondering if you had the readings for Thursday, I lost the syllabus.”
You pulled out your planner, “Yeah, it’s Act 3 of Hamlet and a part from the textbook on dramatic irony, pages 176-179.”
He quickly jotted it down on the corner of his notebook and smiled tiredly at you, “Thanks so much, I can’t keep failing these fucking quizzes, my grade is cheeks right now.”
“Is everything okay?” you cautiously asked, you didn’t want to push but you were a little concerned about the cute boy.
He sighed and ran his hand through his hair again, “Hazing shit, they’re making the new pledges stay up. I haven’t slept a full night in two weeks.”
“That’s, uh,” you weren’t really sure what to say, “not okay?” You settled on.
With a shrug, he tugged his backpack up and pushed in his chair, “Yeah, well, I guess it comes with being a legacy.” And then he was gone.
After that first interaction, you and JJ chatted every so often. Sometimes you’d let him cheat off your quizzes because they were pointless anyway and sometimes, you’d ask your professor to repeat one of the questions so he could get a second chance to answer if he was running late.
The last day of the semester he brought you coffee, “I just wanted to thank you for everything this semester, and I was hoping I could get your number so we can keep in touch.”
The next semester you had two classes together, much to your shock. When the two of you started to hang out outside of class to study for statistics, you learned some stuff about him. He was from the Outer Banks and he had a rough childhood. He was also receiving the Pell Grant so school was totally paid for, his only expense was the frat.
You also learned that the two of you were the same major and had to take all of the same courses, so the two of you decided to try and register for some of the same classes. It didn’t always work out, you had priority scheduling as a note taker for at least one class every semester and sometimes when JJ went to schedule, your section was already full. But sometimes it did work out.
Either way, the two of you always studied together. You used to go back and forth between apartments, one week was yours and one was JJ’s, until he moved into the frat house and no work was meant to be done in those walls. That atmosphere was conducive to parties only, something else JJ loved.
One afternoon, fall of your sophomore year, JJ balled up a piece of paper and threw it at you. It bounced off your forehead landed in your open coffee cup, and you looked up and glared at him, “Was that necessary?”
He gave you an innocent look, “Do you have plans next weekend?”
“I mean, we have a test the next Monday so I’ll probably be studying.”
JJ took the last sip of his coffee, “I have a formal and I need a date, wanna go?”
“Not particularly,” you responded with a shrug.
“No strings attached,” JJ told you, “promise. My friend from home, Kie, normally comes with me, but she has her own shit to do, and me and you get along. If you don’t go, I’ll have to take a stranger and then I’ll be bored.”
You’d been to some of the parties his frat threw, you knew he wouldn’t really be bored all night, he just didn’t want to have to actually work to get a date. Not that he’d have to work hard, his good looks would pretty much guarantee him a date. But you were a little intrigued, so you agreed.
“Great,” he told you, clapping his hands, “let me know what color your dress is and I’ll get a matching tie.”
“Fancy,” you told him with a smile.
“Kie loves matching, she’ll be proud,” JJ responded, and it made you really curious about Kie and the rest of his friends, but you didn’t ask.
Eventually you would get to meet them. JJ invited you to go home with him for spring break and he showed you around the Outer Banks, took you surfing, and threw a party that almost rivaled the ones his frat normally threw. Meeting his friends was nice, but really getting to know JJ was nicer. That’s when you started to complicate the ‘no strings attached’ deal, you felt yourself catching feelings.
By the time senior year rolled around, you were the most tired you’ve ever been. School was hard, having a job while doing school was harder and your social life was suffering. You still hung out with JJ a lot, mostly to study or to unwind and just watch TV, but he was really the only person you spent time with on a regular basis other than your coworkers.
Late on a Saturday afternoon, you were already in your pajamas, studying for an anatomy test, when there was a knock at your apartment door. Startled, you wrapped the blanket you were sitting under tightly around your shoulders and cautiously walked to the door. Peering through the peephole, you saw JJ standing there, looking at something on his phone.
You threw the door open, “What are you doing here?”
He looked up and smiled, “I’m here to kidnap you.”
“What?” you asked blankly, not really in the mood.
JJ pushed his way past you and sat on a barstool before answering, “Don’t think I haven’t noticed how miserable you’ve been lately. When’s the last time you went out?”
And, God, when was the last time you’d done something fun? You sighed, “Fuck, I don’t know, like maybe a month ago when we went to that basketball game.”
With a hum, JJ stood up, “Get dressed, Pike’s throwing a kegger tonight.”
You didn’t even think twice before tossing the blanket onto the couch and going to your closet to find something to wear. JJ turned the TV on while you got fully dressed, minus makeup. Peeking your head out, you caught JJ’s attention, “Can I do my makeup at the house?”
He nodded, “Yeah. You almost ready because I’ve gotta pick up the keg soon?”
“Let’s go.”
JJ locked the door behind you and the two of you walked to his truck. The music blasted as soon as he cranked it up and he turned it down with a sheepish smile, “My bad, the song playing when I got here was a banger.”
Plugging your phone in, you put on the collaborative playlist you and JJ made together. He turned it back up a little and peeled out of the parking lot to the nearest liquor store where his frat normally got their kegs.
You bought cups at the convenience store next door while JJ loaded the keg into his truck, and a few pods because you were low and JJ was almost always out. JJ was leaning against the truck when you met him back in the shared parking lot, and he handed you a Twisted Tea, “For accompanying me on this adventure, madam.”
“Thank you, kind sir,” you responded, cracking it open and took a deep sip before climbing back into the truck to head to the frat house.
JJ left you to finish getting ready while he helped everyone set up for the party. You joined him eventually, having finished your first drink, and helped lock all bedroom doors and put all valuables away.
By the time people started arriving you were happily tipsy, hanging onto JJ while he talked to some of his friends, sipping beer slowly out of your assigned cup at the house. You were over there enough that you’d claimed one of your own and all the other guys that lived there respected it for the most part.
The party started to pick up and one of JJ’s frat brothers called you over to attempt a keg stand. You’d always wanted to try but never had, so you handed JJ your cup and kicked your feet up, trusting the two guys were ready to catch you. They did and someone put the spout into your mouth.
A crowd gathered around you and started counting loudly. You made it all the way to a minute before kicking to be let down. Slowly the two guys lowered your feet and your vision swam while beer bubbled in your throat. You almost choked but managed to swallow while everyone cheered around you. JJ wrapped an arm around your shoulder, “Not bad for a first time!”
He topped your cup off and guided you away. You cleared your throat, “Thought I was gonna puke for a second there.”
“You turned a little green when you first came down, how you feeling now though?”
“Feeling fantastic,” you told him earnestly, swaying in place.
JJ chuckled, grabbing your shoulders, “You got plans tomorrow?”
“Anatomy.”
“So that’s a no, I won’t cut you off then.”
“Don’t cut me off, please,” you told him seriously, trying to focus on his face.
He gave you a little two finger salute, “Aye aye madam.”
You lost track of how many drinks you had as the night went on. Sometime during the night, JJ disappeared and came back with something besides beer for you which was really nice and you thanked him with a kiss on the cheek. He just laughed and squeezed your shoulder before going off to talk to someone else.
When the party started winding down, you attempted to find the Uber app on your phone to call a ride home. JJ tapped your shoulder, startling you, and in your clumsy, intoxicated state, you dropped your phone. It slid out of your eyesight and you glared at him, “Pick it up, J.”
“What are you doing?” he asked, amused.
“Goin home, party’s over.”
“Why don’t you just stay here?”
“Can’t make it up the stairs,” you told him seriously.
JJ raised his eyebrows, “You live on the second floor of your apartment building, at least here you have me to help you up the stairs.”
He had you there. So, you nodded and he took you to the kitchen for a clean cup. JJ filled it with water and made you drink two before leading you to the stairs. You lifted your foot to put it on the first step and almost fell over. JJ reached out but you shushed him, as if his silence would help you focus more on not falling over.
On the second try, you managed to climb up one step and immediately shuffled close to the wall so you could lean your whole body against it for balance while attempting to climb. It was a really slow process, but you were too stubborn to ask for help, and JJ knew better than to try to help you when you were feeling stubborn.
JJ stayed one step below you to help in case you started to fall backwards. Eventually you made it all the way up and immediately forgot which door led to his room. Huffing a laugh, JJ grabbed your wrist and led you to the second one on the left.
You sat down on the bed and went pretty much boneless at the comfort of finally not being on your feet.
“Fucks sake, dude,” JJ muttered, pushing you up into a sitting position.
“No,” you whined, fighting to lay back down.
It wasn’t hard for JJ to keep you sitting up, “You’re going to be so pissed if you wake up in your clothes with makeup on, you need to change and get ready for bed.”
He was right again, but you didn’t have the comprehension level to remember how to do that so you shrugged in response. JJ sighed and helped you kick your shoes off before going to get you a change of clothes from his drawers. You somehow managed to get your shirt off and your shorts unbuttoned, but he had to help you get the new shirt on and change shorts.
The guy JJ shared a bathroom with’s girlfriend left makeup wipes and JJ helped you get all your makeup off. You kept making faces to be difficult because you liked the furrow between his eyebrows as he tried to focus on being gentle.
“I will intentionally poke you in the eyeball if you do not stop,” he warned.
Pouting, you poked his cheek, “Don’t bully me, I’m drunk.”
He threw the wipe away and looked at you exasperatedly, “Brush your teeth, your breath smells like a liquor store.”
Giggling, you grabbed your spare toothbrush from the drawer next to his and sloppily started brushing your teeth. JJ was standing behind you and leaning on you, trapping you between the counter and his body so you didn’t fall over or sway.
The bright bathroom lights plus the water were clearing your brain a little, but you were still gone and not really able to focus on anything for more than a few seconds at a time. You leaned back to feel his chest moving as he brushed his teeth and giggled at the feeling.
JJ sighed again and gently nudged you out of the way to spit and rinse in the sink and you followed suit, having forgotten to do so yourself. You followed him out of the bathroom and grabbed his hand as he led you back to his room.
From what you could remember, JJ slept on the left, so you climbed into the right side of his bed and stretched out comfortably. He crawled in behind you a few minutes later, and you turned around to look at him. He had a small smile on his face as he looked back at you and reached up to push a piece of hair that had fallen in your eyes out of the way.
Suddenly, you were overcome by the urge that you’d been fighting for over a year and you leaned forward to kiss him. He froze and you almost regretted it until he started kissing you back.
You stayed like that for what felt like hours but could’ve only been minutes until he rolled the two of you over so you were on your back and he was hovering over you. Your lips were only separated for a few seconds before he was kissing you again, more deeply than before.
Sighing into the kiss, you brought a hand up to his head and ran your fingers through his hair. He groaned lightly at the feeling and you felt a hand creeping up your thigh. Before it could get too far, you nudged his shoulders back to catch your breath. He kept stroking your thigh and you shifted, “Hey, can we wait maybe?”
“Wait for what?” JJ asked you, confused.
“To fuck,” you told him bluntly.
JJ huffed out a surprised laugh, “Oh, uh, yeah definitely.”
You grinned at him sheepishly, “Sorry, you’re my best friend and if we’re going to do this, I want to be sober and you know, really ready.”
“Right, yeah, I totally get it,” he reassured you, dropping back down next to you.
You sighed as he wrapped his arm around you again. Lifting your head, you let it rest on one of his biceps and drank in his facial features. He held onto one of your hands and played with your fingers, not looking at you directly.
“I’m sorry,” you told him, feeling a little uncertain.
JJ looked at you, furrow back between his eyebrows but a little different than before, “I’m the one who should be saying sorry.”
“What?” you asked, feeling the urge to press the wrinkle until it went away.
“For forcing myself onto you,” JJ mumbled.
Suddenly it felt like you couldn’t keep up with the conversation, “Wait what?”
He wouldn’t meet your eyes again, so you lifted his chin until the two of you were almost nose to nose. JJ shut his eyes, “You’re really drunk, I shouldn’t have ever returned the kiss because you might regret it in the morning.”
“No, I really do like you JJ, I just,” you paused, trying to find the right words, “I just want it to be special, I guess,” you trailed off, hoping it made sense.
JJ smiled gently and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead, “We can talk about it tomorrow, yeah?”
With a giant yawn, you nodded and the last thing you remember is him running a hand through your hair and tangling your legs together.
Summary:  The great ceremonies begin.
The dreams were powerful that night, whisking you off to far away places, off to the increasingly familiar form of the gargantuan space artist. There was a strange nostalgia out here that you were slowly coming to recognize as being not your own. How could it be? You had never physically been here, only visited in dreams.
With green and blue sparkling at your right and left, you drifted along in their orbit, yet another asteroid in a primordial star system.
First Wielder.
The concept filtered through your mind, trailing a warm and wistful longing behind it.
Peace. Eternity. Creation.
Before battle. Before separation. Before imprisonment.
Before all.
The star system was strange: every time you came here, the sun was a little different. A variable star, its brightness oscillating, it was still young and new.
There was only one planet in this system, located fairly close to the star. The presence of the colossal giant perturbed the asteroids and gas around the star, but their great mass prevented them from coalescing.
Comets formed in great numbers from the gas and ice beyond them, whizzing past them, inspiring new drawings. Asteroids clumped up against them; a brush of their great hand sent them flying, to collide into one another, to spin away from their unstable orbit, and join the comets on their cross-system journey, to crash into the singular planet.
The colossus watched with the patience of true immortality, as the planet burned and erupted, filled up with water, and clouds, and sky.
Thoughtfully, they regarded an asteroid they held in one hand, then, with their color-stained fingers, they began to draw.
The wistfulness and regret reached their peak, and you woke up in the empty bathtub, with a thought ringing in your head.
The Wielders always came to a bad end.
                                                                            ******
Loki was somewhat disgruntled to discover that you'd been having these dreams without him. He didn't scold, but his concern was clear. You described them in as much detail as you could, but, to your dismay, he didn't have any explanation for what you'd been seeing while you slept.
It would just have to remain a mystery. The upcoming day was going to be far too busy to dwell on it.
Both you and Loki had dressed in your absolute finest, your armor polished bright, your skirt covered in embroidery, your chest and neck festooned in beads of carved gold and pearl. You still felt a little bit like you were so buried in finery that you became invisible, but you tried to carry it with pride. All of this had been put together especially for you, and that hard work deserved to be shown off.
Loki was so magnificent in his fur-trimmed cloak, and elaborate helmet, you had to firmly tell yourself not to spend the whole day just staring at him all moon-eyed.
Maybe just a few hours.
Today, the Second Feast, was really the main event, as far as this Buridag was concerned. At noon, you would participate in the Blood Taking ceremony, wherin you would 'mingle blood' with the royal brothers, in order to be formally adopted into Asgardian high society. This would cement your status as high enough to advise Loki as one of the most important members of his personal entourage. And before the evening feast, you would perform the ritual that would confirm you as an official Seidkona.
But before that, you would have the time to run around and enjoy the festival.
It was set up like a combination job fair and reenactment fest. Stalls lined the streets and filled courtyards, peopled by the crafters of Asgard. Smiths, armorers, and carpenters, goldsmiths, lapidaries, scrimshanders, and glassblowers. Weavers, spinners, leatherworkers, and dyemakers, artists, musicians, chefs, academics, mages, stonemasons, construction workers, scribes, dancers, and cheesemongers. All the sights, and sounds, and scents, and flavors that made up Asgard were being demonstrated and celebrated.
Your Father and Tara joined you in the streets, and Loki reluctantly released you into their care, having some preparation left to do.
Tara, flouncing around in an apron dress and domed brooches very much like your usual style, gushed over how beautiful you looked, and your father, rather sheepishly dressed in an Asgardian greatcoat and cowl, agreed openly.
“You look like a princess.” he said. “A real one. You...You walk different now. Talk different. You look so strong.”
“Is it me, or are all these people following us?” Tara asked, not very quietly. A few chagrined people in the crowd that flowed in your wake down the street peeled away, and wandered in different directions. The rest either had less shame, or had orders to keep watch over you.
You spared the group a glance. There appeared to be a solid mix of Asgardians and humans, several of which had their phones out. You surmised there would be a new wave of photos of you on the internet over the next few days.
“Keep your cowl up dad.” You advised.
“Want me to run them off?” he offered.
“Nah. I don't really mind if they take pictures of me. Can't really hurt anything.”
“Wasn't so great last time.” Tara pointed out. “I spent a lot of time stanning for you.”
“Well, last time was sensationalized bullcrap. This time is a nice festival. I mean, check out that guy!”
That Guy was a glassblower in his stall, spinning a huge, bubble thin amphora of rose pink glass. You had seen its like before, but never seen one made.
“Oh, they age crystal mead in those! The pink lets in the right wavelengths of light that give it it's shimmering quality.”
“What's crystal mead?” your father asked.
“Don't try more than a few sips, if anyone offers.” you warned. “Asgardians have iron guts. Their booze is way too strong.”
“Yeah, they warned us about that on the plane.” Tara said. “And yesterday, it looked like they had everything divided up by species, so no one got the wrong thing.”
You took them around to various demonstrations: spinners spinning yarn, brewers preparing several of Asgards many alcoholic beverages, apothecaries showing how basic medicines were made, a cobbler putting together a nice pair of boots.
“So, Asgard's really advanced, right?” Tara asked. “Why is everything like Ye Olden Times?”
“Asgard's never had that big a population, even at it height. There just isn't that much demand for mass production. Most things are bespoke, or self-made. Quality depends entirely on the maker, so that, of course, becomes a competition. And that, in turn, becomes a matter of cultural pride. Also, they have thousands of years to get good at what they do, so Asgardian made goods are super high quality, and they judge personal worth by that. I don't think they'll ever automate; it would go against a lot of what they stand for.”
You snagged the three of you a traditional Asgardian snack; fat sausages, wrapped in savory pastry. You thought it might be good to have something else in your stomach before the first ceremony.
Tara called them Asgardian corn dogs, which you couldn't wait to share with Loki, if only to watch his nose wrinkle with disdain over the undignified term.
“So when do we have to let you go?” Tara asked.
You checked your phone for the time, stuffing the last of your sausage into your mouth.
“Eh, I've got a few minutes left. Better start heading over though.”
Your winding path through the courtyards took you past minstrels, impromptu dances, and games, to a large, tall dais that had been put together as a temporary mirror to the throne room. It towered over the City Hall courtyard like a ziggurat. You'd be up there soon enough, but currently...
“Who's that?” your father asked, pointing at a man standing at the top. “Doesn't look like Thor.”
You squinted up at the figure, his bright armor shining in the rarefied sunlight.
“Ah, That's Heimdall. He's the Guardian of Asgard, and god of...uh, sight? I think? Vigilance? It's not quite that neat and simple, you know? The whole 'God Of' thing is a bit more complicated than that.”
“So that's a god?” your father asked. “How can you tell? Are they all gods? What does that even mean?”
“All good questions. Mostly because they are very hard to answer.”
Your father and Tara jerked at the sudden new voice, and, not for the first time, you found yourself amazed at how easily a man of the sheer size and importance as the king of Asgard could sneak up on people.
“Your Majesty.” you said calmly, inclining your head. Your father and Tara dipped into awkward bows, a little awed by the mythical figure before them. Thor didn't necessarily demand obeisance, but he didn't exactly discourage it either; he let people act as they felt appropriate.
“Not every Asgardian is a god.” Thor explained. “Those that are go by the term 'Aesir', a common name through most of the realms for beings of that type. You are born Aesir; you cannot become one by outside influences. However, Aesir nature doesn't always become apparent at birth, it often doesn't manifest until adolescence. As for what it means to be Aesir...that doesn't have so straightforward an answer. I leave it to the philosophers, who, incidentally, are in booth seventy-eight.
Anyway, I have come to collect your daughter for the ceremony. There isn't much time left, so we'd all better get in place. If you go through those two poles there right now, you can get very good seats.”
“This could get a bit weird.” You warned. “It's a ceremony more ancient than any recorded human practices, so it's probably going to seem archaic.”
“Oh, it's not so bad.” Thor said. “It's been updated and refined over all those years. For instance, everyone remains clothed now, and there are at least seventy percent fewer entrails used.”
Your father coughed, and you rolled your eyes. Thor's sense of humor was difficult for you to understand, considering how serious he was about everything. The thing about Thor's jokes was that he might have been joking about something that had really happened, or he might have been joking about something he'd completely made up, but he would never specify which.
“On that note, I've got to go.” you said. “Entrails to sort, and all that.”
Your father coughed again, Tara patting him compassionately on the back.
“Good luck!” she called to your receding back.
                                                                                ******
“Now, you've been fully briefed on what will happen during this ceremony, correct?” Thor asked, as the two of you loitered near the back stairs of the temporary dais. People were filtering in to seats and standing room around the courtyard, waiting for things to start.
“I think so.” you said. “If I've got this right, there's going to be a special dance-”
“The Alignment of the Celestial and Worldly bodies, yes.” Thor said. “It symbolizes everything that must come together to bring the 'adoptee' to the greater 'family'. In this case, it will tell the story of how you came here to join our family.”
A soft warmth crept up your neck, and heated your ears beneath your helmet. You knew it was all socio-symbolism, but the notion of 'joining the family' hit differently now that you were on intimate terms with Loki.
“And then all the braziers will have some kind of incense thrown in, and in the smoke, we'll all go up the stairs like we're magically appearing. Honestly, it sounds like it'll look really cool.”
“All ceremonies contain a bit of theatrics.” Thor agreed. “Perhaps that is the most important part. Or that's the part that makes it important. I wish we still had some of the traditional ceremonial incense, but we just don't have access to the materials anymore. You would have liked it; it was much more floral than most of what you have here. We did manage to get some lavender though. That should be nice.”
“Maybe one day, when the Bifrost is more stable.” You said. It did sound very nice. “Loki said that you, and he, and Heimdall will sing a blessing song?”
“Yes, a divine blessing from a trio of Aesir. It's got to be three. And then...”
“Yeah. And then.” Loki had told you about the bloodletting. He had been very frank about it. “I know. I'm nervous, but not afraid.”
Thor nodded. “Sometimes there are unforeseen effects, but never anything bad. You'll be perfectly safe.”
“I know. The nervousness just comes from knowing it'll hurt. Even if just for a short time.”
You buckled under Thor's hand when it came down on your shoulder, enveloping the whole thing.
“Loki would rather slice out his own guts than draw your blood, trust me. He's been trying to figure out how to get around it for weeks. Unfortunately, the blood is the most important part of the magic. It carries all of the power. It's very old magic: according to him, this is practically the only part of the ritual that has remained unchanged from the beginning.”
“Did there really used to be entrails and naked people, or was that a joke?”
“Ehhh, well, yes and no. This ceremony originated with the Vanir, and they are not opposed to nakedness under certain circumstances. In this case, everyone who attended was expected to leave the clothes they came in at the door, and wear a special loincloth instead. This was actually to prevent violence, by barring hidden weaponry from being brought to ceremony grounds. So rather than pure nudity, everyone was dressed as scantily as was possible.
As for entrails...unfortunately yes, that was also a part of it. A seer would perform a divination using the entrails of a slaughtered animal. That practice was going out of fashion, even before the war, and I don't think anyone today even remembers how it was done.”
You shuddered. Yes, it was a different culture, and a long time ago, but it still grossed you out.
“I'll have to remember to thank Loki for trying to get me out of it, even if he wasn't successful.” You said. He really did put in a lot of effort behind the scenes. If only he were more open about some of that effort, so you could appreciate it more.
“He was adamant about the bull.” Thor said. “Demanded a private ritual the night before. Put your helmet up on the pillar, then sacrificed and butchered the beast himself. Insisted on it. Did our ancestors proud, but you know he knows his way around a knife.”
“I wish he'd told me. I was really stressed about that whole thing. I'm glad, in the end, that he was thinking of me, but I really wish I'd known. I wouldn't have lost so much sleep!”
“It was a little last minute.” Thor admitted. “I approved it the instant he explained, but we had to do it pretty much immediately afterwards. He really should have told you, but I fear my brother is usually more invested in the making of plans, rather than what to do once they come to fruition. I feel you will be a positive influence on him, though.”
Even though he was wearing his eyepatch, rather than the mismatched prosthetic, his one blue eye was open and sincere.
“I think so too.” you said. You already were influencing each other. It was impossible to live so close, to sleep in the same bed, without doing so. But Loki did have a bad habit of assuming things, a by-product of his upbringing as a leader, you supposed. You would simply have to speak up more.
Perhaps you had gotten too comfortable. But perhaps you wanted to be too comfortable. It might be a holdover from your year of struggle, but having someone who wanted to do so much for you was very tempting. You knew it would be better to strive for a balance, but you also knew that, unless Loki somehow diminished himself severely, the two of you would never truly be equals.
But you admired that greatness, and somehow, those all too common flaws in him made him easier for you to love. They made him so real.
An ambling drum beat started up, accompanied by the brassy ting of zills, and a flute. Loki joined you and Thor in peeking out around the dais, just as a group of dancers spread out around the courtyard.
You'd been told that the dancers represented personages from history and legend. You were pretty sure that the three women who orbited the dance stage equidistant from one another must be the Norns, and you assumed the cluster of people standing beneath a glittering tree branch and clanging their zills were probably meant to be the ancestors of the royal family.
The dance told a story of a woman dressed like you, and a man dressed like Loki, wearing silver bells at their wrists and ankles that jingled with every step. They made everything look so much more graceful and sensual than it really had been: Holding hands like the rune branding had been on purpose, dancing circles with each other, like everything had been friendly and not at all awkward from the very beginning. How elegantly 'you' swooned into 'his' arms, while the assassin was caught. How triumphantly 'you' defended 'him' against the Huldra. And how beautifully 'he' clasped 'you' in a romantic, yet properly chaste embrace.
There was none of the blood, none of the fear, or anger, or petulance, or confusion. No loss, or loneliness, or uncertainty.
But that was how it worked, wasn't it? None of those things could be shown to the general public. This was ceremony. This was spectacle! This was what would be remembered.
The pair danced away, out of sight, the ancestors retreated, and the Norns raised their arms in unison. All around the courtyard, attendants dumped incense into the torches and braziers, sending thick smoke and mysterious perfume wafting over the entire area.
“Show's on, darling.” Loki said, grasping your shoulders, and leading you up the stairs. A new wave of anxiety washed over you as you rose above the sweet smelling clouds like a legend. Heimdall stepped aside to let you pass, Loki and Thor leading you right up to the edge of the elevated platform, where waited a podium, upon which rested a brass bowl. An unfamiliar rune was stamped on its bottom. So that was where the magic would happen.
Thor held his hand out over an unlit brazier just in front of the podium and concentrated. Scarcely a moment later sparks danced between his fingers and jumped to ignite the fuel. The light illuminated the clouds of incense, obscuring the audience. Cut off thus from every other person out there, you didn't flinch as the trio of gods each placed a hand on you, and began to sing.
You couldn't help but wonder if they had done this before. It was a complex song, with rising and falling harmonies, parts layered over one another, something that couldn't have been easy to learn. As their voices dipped and flowed, you felt the power rising, just like out in the camp, months ago. Why could you sense divine power? Was it because of your magic? Was there anyone out in the crowd that could feel it too?
Thor's good eye had begun to sparkle with crackling white energy, the power of the blessing he was singing into you. You assumed Heimdall, behind you, was lighting up orange, and when you turned your head to glance at Loki, you were suffused with the gentle glow of the blue light from your dreams.
All of the anxiety drained out of you at the touch of that light, your arms dropping to your sides as relaxation took over.
Everything was all right. Loki was right beside you. Thor and Heimdall were with you, their voices reverberating through you, their blessing upon you. The rare winter sun filtered down over you like a blanket, as the last notes of the Aesir's song filled your head.
Loki gently took your hand, gazing earnestly into your face as the calming light faded from his eyes.
“Forgive me, my love.” he whispered.
A sudden, painful jab, ripped you out of your cocoon of sunny calm. With a sharp cry, you turned to stare at your fingertip, pierced deeply by the tip of one of Loki's knives.
Loki held your hand over the brass bowl, letting the blood drip, enough to cover the rune at the bottom. Then he tenderly bandaged the tiny wound, lines of regret around his eyes. Thor held his hand out for a slash, and then Loki turned the blade on himself. Blood slowly filled the little bowl, as a light throbbing started in your head. Every drop that rippled its surface was like a giant heartbeat within you.
Once it was full, Thor and Loki began singing again, lifting the small bowl between them. They held it up to the sun, and then poured it onto the burning brazier. The fire sputtered, sizzling, sending a huge cloud of smoke directly into your face. You gagged on the scent of burning blood, practically bathed in it, a layer of death-scent on your skin. The song cut through it, thrumming in your ears, an echoing promise of cherishment and fidelity.
The blood burned down into nothing, the smoke slowly clearing. All of the people in the courtyard came back into view, the upturned faces solemn. The dancers below picked up the chorus.
And you understood them.
Loki took your hand and lifted it up, flourishing to the crowd. They cheered, while you stood there, stunned. You understood what they were saying, their enthusiastic calls, their songs. The blood smell lingered in your nose, the throbbing swiftly receding from your head.
He led you to the stairs down as you wobbled, but you never made it all the way down. Dizziness overcame you, and you collapsed into Loki's arms.
Genre: Teacher Harry, lots of fluff, friendship, and maybe even some romance? ;)
Warnings: None
Word Count: 5.5k words
Pairing: Harry x Reader
Music Inspo: Green Eyes by Coldplay (click to listen)
*
His shelves were full of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Rumi, and Charles Bukowski. His desk was covered in scribbled Post-It notes, Bit-O-Honey wrappers, and empty mugs of tea.
This is what you noticed the first few times you subbed in his classroom.
These were the only details you knew about the man whose face you’ve never seen. As you gradually began to substitute for his high school English classes more and more, you learned about him more. This was due to his students, and his personal belongings.
What he didn’t and didn’t like: all the way from no fringes on a notebook paper, no red pen ever because that was his grading color, no using the word ‘can’t’ in his class, and students can eat all the snacks they want as long as the trash goes in the bin where it belongs.
The CDs in a stack on the shelf told you which ones he actually listened to because they were the ones that were on top and without dust.
You learned that the pristine book on his desk was never the one he was reading. No, it was the weathered and used copy beside his mug with dog-eared pages and penciled notes.
His drawers told you another story with their contents: boxes of teas ranging from peach to vanilla macaron, journals filled to the brim with words, adult coloring books with tv show themes, and books on Van Gogh and Monet hinting at his artsy background. His students slowly warmed up to you, and through them, so did he.
At this point, you’d only been subbing for Mr. Styles the last five months, racking up around two and a half weeks worth of subbed days. He always left precise and concise lesson plans for you. The books were where he said they’d be. The webpages he mentioned were bookmarked on his desktop. The teacher copy of the textbook and current group book were on his desk. At the beginning, his desk looked like a professional organizer had gotten their hands on it. Slowly, as you came to sub more for him, it grew messier, albeit you kept it tidy during your appearances. As the first few months passed and you became one of the few subs in his room, you started to find notes. They weren’t just any notes. They were more than the straight forward sub notes for the day’s agenda. No, they weren’t that simple. You can still remember the first one you found on a Post-It note - it went like this:
Y/N, peanut butter on your waffles or syrup?
It took you by surprise, but nonetheless, you answered his call. Each time, you’d find a contrasting pen color and scrawl your answer underneath his. Then leaving it somewhere he would find it the next day. They were one-liners at the beginning, and always interesting. Walking to his classroom from your car on those mornings, you’d fill with excitement at the anticipation of finding the next one. Sometimes it took you the entire day to find where he had hidden them.
In the closet.
In a nook in a drawer.
Under the chair.
On the backside of one of his books.
Hidden in plain sight amongst his current choice of notes and lists.
They never failed to spark a smile on your lips, whether it was quirky, confused, astounded or humored.
Guitar or piano?
FRIENDS or The Simpsons?
Vanilla or Chocolate?
Would you rather become a superhero or a wizard?
The Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
Slowly, the questions became more personal, and more than just ‘this or that.’ His questions became longer, and so did your answers.
What was the moment that made you decide to become a teacher?
Is Donny a good student for you, or is he lying to me about that?
What color are your eyes?
What book/film do you believe had the largest impact on you while growing up?
What is the one meal you always order at a restaurant?
Do you have a family?
Should I splurge and buy a new desk chair?
What book should I buy for my classroom you think I need to have? Why?
Why don’t you have a classroom of your own?
When is your birthday?
Star Wars or Lord of the Rings?
They were never a chore for you, or tedious. No, they were fun and you felt as if you saw a little sliver of who he really was with each note. After a while, you started to write and leave your own notes for him to answer. At first, many of them were similar to ones he had left you, because you wanted to hear his responses, too.
The newest one stares back at you, his half-cursive registering in your eyes.
What’s your favorite part about subbing in my classroom? Don’t say the students, that’s what everybody says.
Giggling to yourself, you reach over to his Pink Floyd mug to pull out a green pen. You take a moment to think of your answer. This time you found the note peeking out from behind the smart whiteboard. The sounds of the end of a school day tickle at your ears as you scribble down your answer. Pressing it to an open square of wood on his desk, you turn back to the royal blue pad of Post-Its. Peeling one off, the green pen hovers over the paper, but you can’t get yourself to write the question you’ve been wanting to know all along.
He didn’t have a Facebook, or an Instagram.
The high school doesn’t have a wall of staff pictures like others you’ve subbed at do.
It’s late winter, so yearbooks are still a ways off.
For all you know, you could have seen him here before in the halls when you subbed in another classroom.
Exhaling, you press the pen to the paper before you can convince yourself to stop. Unlike the many times before when your fears got the best of you.
What do you look like?
With a proud but nervous smile you stick it to the desk, layering the first note on top. It sticks to your lips as you bend down to reach your hand into your bag. The glossy bag greets your hand, and you pull it out to set down beside the note.
A small bag of Bit-O-Honeys.
Looking up, your eyes scan the empty classroom. Few footsteps, voices, and lockers slamming trickle in from the halls. You suddenly realize that this is the same view he sees, these are the same sounds he hears, and the same place he sits in every day. Well, when he’s not away on personal days, sick days, on holiday, and at workshops, hence your appearances. The thought knits something together inside of you, making you feel just that bit more closer to him. Something that’s been slowly happening over time since you first stepped foot in his classroom.
One of the first things that did this was the posters scattered across his walls. A poster from the 2013 remake of The Great Gatsby, The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover, a cartoon of William Shakespeare, a unifying print of Keith Haring’s art, and several posters of quotes from famous books - To Kill A Mockingbird, the Kite Runner, Of Mice and Men, The Life of Pi, and even The Hunger Games. It delighted you watching him add some of them to the walls since your time here, and you’ve been itching to purchase him one as a gift. You’re unsure of what he would like though, and the fear of failure has held you back from doing so.
A bleep! catches your attention. Casting your eyes to the dormant desktop screen, you wiggle the mouse. A red circle has appeared on the title of a tab opened to your professional email. Clicking over to it from a YouTube video he had you show the class, you find you have a new message. At the sight of who sent it, your heart skips a beat: harry.styles@isd . . . . . . .
Hi. I reckon you’re still sitting at my desk this moment, now that’s a funny thought. I wanted to ask you a question while I remembered. I have to go out of town on Friday for a funeral. Believe me, I wouldn’t go if I didn’t have to, but these things are a must. I apologize for it being short notice, but I thought I’d ask you if you would like to take it before I posted it to the sub database. Please let me know either way by tonight, so it has a few days to sit on the website to be claimed. Also, I wanted to say thanks for everything you do. My students really love you, and it makes me wonder what I’m missing. Enjoy your night!
Sincerely,
Harry Styles
A smile warms your cheeks as you finish reading his words, and the familiar poem that ends every email of his. You quickly type up a response to him, agreeing to take the job on Friday, thanking him for thinking of you. A new email appears in your inbox shortly after from another colleague, which occupies you before you lose yourself in your thoughts again.
Perhaps your favorite addition in his classroom is the Fender acoustic sitting on a stand in the corner. Of course, you’ve yet to see it move in the last five months. The stories his students have told you in a way have given it legs of its own in your mind. Much like the little notes you’ve been leaving for each other, something you dread ever ending.
It was a Wednesday. You’re convinced that Mrs. Watson’s Pre-Calc class is surely the bane of your existence. You keep cursing yourself for taking sub assignments for math classes. Seeing that you’re terrible at the subject, you vowed you’d never take one of her assignments again, but you have to pay the bills somehow. You found your respite in the cozy staff lounge. Couches lined two of the walls, along with an arrangement of tables on the other side of the room.
As you walk in, you see that one of the ancient history teachers has nodded off again on the plaid couch. Otherwise, the room is empty, and all to yourself. If that didn’t make you happy before, the assortment of food on the counter definitely does.
Voices float in through the open door as the plastic lid to the cupcakes opens with a pop!
“Ah, looks like ya got tha last chocolate one. I was savin’ that one fer me,” a voice comments from behind you. Turning, you find a tall man in his late 20’s walking towards you.
“Oh, I’m sorry, you can have it,” you volunteer, holding the blue-iced cupcake out for his taking.
His blush lips curl up with an amused smile. Dimples fall neatly into his cheeks covered with thick stubble. Its deep brown color matches that of the short quiffed curls atop his head. Misty green eyes stare back at you in the middle of his round, but sharp face. “‘m only joking. Go ahead and have it. I already had one earlier. They’re quite good actually, but I dunno ‘bout tha vanilla. Never really cared fer tha flavoir when it comes t’ cake and ice cream,” he comments, passing you to stop at the nearby sink.
“Yeah, I like to forget vanilla exists half of the time,” you remark, peeling away the paper liner of the cupcake.
Leaning against the counter, you watch as his ringed hand grabs a red coffee mug from the cabinet. “So do I. ‘s ratha boring, if I do say so meself.”
Nodding to yourself, a silence follows your words. The sweetness of the cupcake is shocking when you take a bite. It makes you wonder how you devoured these sugar bombs as a child. A few beeps and a hum from the microwave echo throughout the room as you check your phone.
“Y’know, I haven’t seen ya here at tha school befo’. Are ya new dis year or a sub?” he asks, bringing your eyes back to his lean figure. He pulls a yellow square packet from his tight-fitting black slats, a blush button-down tucked into its waist.
“I started subbing here this year,” you answer before taking another bite of the cupcake. Half of it consists of the sickeningly sweet frosting that makes your teeth ache.
“Mmmm I see. How d’ya like it so far? Are ya a new teacher, ‘s that why yer subbin’?”
“Yeah, I went back to school kinda late in the game after doing something else. I figure I’d sub for a little bit for some experience, because what’s another year of waiting by this time?” you comment, observing how he fiddles with his black tie while searching in the refrigerator.
“Well, congratulations. ‘s a big step t’ go back t’ school fer sumthin’ ya love. ‘s a good profession, I reckon. I’ve been teaching fer 7 years, and here at dis school fer 5. Sumtimes schools even hire subs they’ve had when a position opens, so keep yer eyes open,” he tells you, turning to you with a smile, a yogurt in his hand.
“Thank you,” you say sincerely, returning the smile. “I appreciate the vote of confidence.”
“Sure thing. I know it helped loads when I was a newbie. ‘ll see ya around, I gotta get back t’ class befo’ me students do first. Have a good one!”
Walking towards you with the steaming cup of tea in his hands, he pats your arm with his other hand on the way out. Nodding at your ‘thank you’, a small ‘you’re welcome’ falls from his lips before the door closes behind him. Eating the last bite you can muster of the cupcake, you toss its remains in the bin. A thought worms its way into your mind as you sit down at the table.
Wow, I wonder who that guy was? And is he married, because shit, he was handsome.
The smell of orange essential oil greets you when you stepped foot into his classroom the next time. The state of his desk made you frown, and made you want to scratch the itch to clean it. You resisted it and didn’t, and that thought was taken away when his students began to find their desks.
Another day of 7 classes came and went. 2 classes of Introduction to Creative Writing. 3 classes of American Literature. 2 classes of World Literature. Amusing YouTube videos broke up the monotony of your day, and those of his students. The lesson notes he left for you had become more concise as the months have passed, and as you learned from each other. The same couldn’t be said for the dish of Bit-O-Honeys on his desk that he’s kept stocked for your appearances. You’re just glad he’s put the bag you left for him to good use. All throughout your day you had been looking for his newest note, but this time it wasn’t in any of his usual spots. After correcting some quizzes from today, you finally found it in the bottom left-hand drawer of his mahogany desk. Stuck to a tall can of Coke, your favorite drink of choice.
I’m sorry it’s warm, although I’m not sure how you like to drink it. I just find warm soda to be rather nasty. The answer to your question is I have green eyes, brown hair, I’m rather tall, and I like to dress up. Is that good enough for you? Now, what do you look like, love?
Your insides melt at the sight of his answer, but then you groan at the vagueness of it. Off the top of your head, you know there are at least 10 male teachers here at this school with brown hair, maybe more. Maybe even with green eyes, too, and you know that because you’ve seen them in the staff lounge or in the halls. The thought only grows worse when you lose count of  how many teachers there are here at this school. Let’s just say, there’s a lot. Yeah, that sure helps a whole lot. Annoyed, you pluck a pen from the green mug and answer his question with as little detail as possible. Two can play at this game, you think to yourself as you sigh.
If you could have a jam session with any musician, dead or alive, who would it be?
Sticking the new note where its corner peeks out from under his tabletop calendar, your eyes return to the Coke. It’s undeniable, you feel a little less perturbed at him just at the sight of it. Only a little bit, that is. Sure, you’ve subbed for a countless number of teachers at this school, and more so in this school district. A few of them are even friends or relatives of yours, but you’d never connected with one before like you have with Harry. You just wish more than anything you could find out what he looks like and what he’s really like. Continuing to take his sub jobs doesn’t really help with that. It only drives you crazier wanting to know the other side of this fascinating human being.
There he was, snoring on the couch again, tv remote in hand. The weather channel is playing, surprising you very little. Snickering, you yank open the door to the black refrigerator. After retrieving your striped black and blue lunchbox, you place the container of leftovers in the microwave. A laugh is heard over your shoulder, and when you turn, you find Green Eyes from the other day.
Tittering as the door closes behind him, he says, “No fail, John ‘s always passed out on dat couch, I swear.”
“I know, it’s every time I’m here. Maybe he should just retire already so he can take his naps at home. Then maybe we could watch something on the tv for once,” you comment, shaking your head. Unpacking your lunch box, you take out a clementine, vanilla yogurt, and silverware.
“Nah, he loves it too much. I don’t see him leavin’ anytime soon,” he remarks, walking past you to search the shelves of the fridge. “What’re we having’ t’day? Couldn’t find any cupcakes dis time?”
“No, those ones were too sweet anyways. They gave me a stomachache,” you complain with a grimace. The beeeeep! of the microwave interrupts your thoughts.
“Mmmm, I dunno, I thought they were pretty good.” Rubbing his tummy, he pulls a breathy laugh from your lips.
Your steaming container of leftovers almost burns your hands, and you dread trying to eat it within the next 10 minutes. Setting up for a lesson in Mr. Harrison’s classroom was a pain, making you wonder why you take any sub jobs besides Harry’s anymore.
“No free food fer us t’day,” he pouts beside you, closing the fridge door before venturing to the vending machine in the corner. Your eyes drift to his outfit choice today - a white button-down topped with a buttoned vest the shade of ochre, all tucked into brown slacks.
“That’s why you pack a lunch. I thought you’d know the drill by now, since you said you’ve been teaching for a while.”
“I do, but sumtimes I forget. Yer already ahead o’ me with dat part, love,” he who doesn’t have a name answers with a short laugh. Sliding a leather wallet from his pocket, you see him type in a number before you sit down at the table. “Who are ya subbin’ fer t’day then?”
“I’m on the west side in the Science wing for Harrison. Bloody Bio.”
“Ugh, I neva cared fer science. Where were ya a few weeks ago when I last saw ya?” he questions, sliding out a chair across from you. An assortment of vending machine food hits the table with a slap - peanut M&M’s, a nutrigrain bar, and a bag of Sun Chips.
“Upstairs in Watson’s Maths class. Remind me to never sub for her again, because I can’t understand Pre-Calc for the life of me. I never could in high school so I don’t know why I thought I could know,” you chuckle. A warmth fills your cheeks at the sight of his lips spreading into an amused smile.
“Yeah, I neva cared fer Maths meself eitha. Numbas neva made a bit o’ sense t’ me, words were always betta,” he explains. You nod along with his words, your mouth occupied with a bite of spaghetti and meatballs. “What subject would ya like t’ teach once tha year’s ova an’ ya go searchin’ fer a job o’ yer own?”
“Um, probably something in English since that’s my focus area. Dabbling in History has been fun, though. I enjoy learning about it myself, and I always have a better time subbing in either of those classes,” you reveal.
“I see,” he replies, his head going up and down. The crinkling of the granola bar wrapper fills the silence between you before he takes a bite. Crumbs pepper his chin, but he wipes them away from his thin beard. “How often d’ya sub here then?”
“I’d say probably 3 days a week typically, but some weeks are 4. Otherwise, I sometimes sub for a friend or somebody I know over at the middle school.”
“Ah, so yer license is sumthin’ like 8 - 12, ‘s it?” he inquires, picking up the black mug you hadn’t noticed he had.
“Yeah, I thought that would give me a good range for those grades. With my experience now, I think I’d like to stay at the high school level though,” you continue, twirling you fork around in the noodles covered in tomato sauce. Crossing your legs, the satiny fabric of your black dress pants moves with you.
“We could always use anotha good teacher here. Ya neva know what’ll happen,” he smiles, standing to his feet with his snacks held in his large hand. Returning his smile, he adds his mug to that hand, patting your back once on his way out. “See ya next time, love. Keep yer head up, it’ll get betta.”
“Thanks,” you automatically respond with. When you go to say his name, you’re lost for words, because you suddenly remember you’ve never gotten it. Now, he’s already too far away to ask for it.
Shrugging your shoulders, you stab a meatball with your fork, wondering when the next time will be that you’ll see him again. Because, he sure is nice to look at, and he’s nicer to you than anybody else here.
Stevie Nicks or John Lennon, it’s a tough call. Okay, I’m doing two questions from now on, because you ask such good ones :( Who would you jam with then? Question #2: What was the last concert you went to?
This time, you found the Post-It before the school day even started. It was on the seat of his chair, making you think he wanted you to find it right away. You’re thinking maybe he remembered one of the last times you complained about how hard he had made it. Sometimes you worry about how excited you get to look for these each time you sub in his classroom, but then you remember it’s only once every few weeks.
That can’t hurt, can it?
That day the hallways were louder than they usually were after school. You attributed that to the boys’ semifinals basketball game set to be played tonight in the gymnasium. The school’s home team against a nearby rival school. Students couldn’t stop talking about it all day, and many of them shared they’d be sticking around after school to attend. Checking your watch, you note that you should have enough time to stop at home to eat dinner before coming back for it. Even though you hadn’t even known about it before today.
The Sufjan Stevens song floating from his desktop fills the room as you get out books for tomorrow. Your hands are full with copies of The Kite Runner, making you feel grateful again to Harry- Mr. Styles for picking a decent classic for the class to read. Although you’d only read it a few years ago yourself, and it broke your heart, you’re excited to sub next time to help his World Lit class with it.
“Oh hey, be careful there, yer gonna slip and fall with all o’ those,” somebody says from behind you, distracting you from your mission of bringing the pile of books from the closet to a desk.
Don’t I know that voice? Turning your eyes to the doorway, you find Green Eyes walk in with a coat slung over his arm. Wait a second.
“I-I’m fine,” you stutter, but your actions that follow negate your words. Your eyes run over his familiar features, and slowly the puzzle pieces start to click in your head. Harry? A thought bomb explodes in your head, and the books tumble from your arms. “Shit, I’m sorry.”
“Yer okay,” he murmurs, stopping in front of you. Kneeling down, you both begin to pick up the books, stacking them on top of each other. “Thanks for gettin’ me set up fer t’morrow though. I appreciate it.”
“Mmmhmm,” is all you can say, because any words that want to come out can’t get past the lump in your throat. One that’s there because of the realization you just had.
Green Eyes and Harry are the same person.
How did I not figure this out sooner?
“So, ya must be Y/N, huh?” he giggles, his head bent down as he helps you pick up the books.
“Y-Yeah, surprise,” you admit, and your laugh soon joins his. Before you know it, the both of you can’t stop laughing.
“Here,” you hear him say. Looking up, you find him standing in front of you holding his hand out for you to take. A cozy looking maroon sweater covers his upper half, and blue jeans don the rest. “Fancy meetin’ you here,” he jokes in between laughs.
“You’re right about that,” you answer, taking his hand. He helps you to your feet where you smooth down the violet skirt of your dress. “I can’t believe I didn’t connect the dots.”
“Yer not tha only one, love,” Harry comments, bending over to grab a stack of books. He begins to set one on each desk as he walks down the aisles of them. “But I s’pose there wasn’t any way t’ know.”
“Yeah, I couldn’t find you on Facebook,” you confess, cursing yourself for the slip up a few seconds later. Lifting your head from the book you just set on a desk, you find his amused eyes on you across the room.
“Ah, so ya were stalkin’ me, were ya?” he smirks, his delightful laugh following his words.
“No, I wasn’t! You’re just one of the only colleagues I’ve subbed for who I’ve never met, or like don’t know what they look like.”
Your small stack soon disappears and when you return to the pile at the back of the room, he does too.
“So, what d’ya think? Are ya disappointed then?”
“No,” you say automatically, lifting your eyes to his green ones that land on you. His cheeks lined with a thick, neat beard crease with dimples as he smiles at you.
“Neither am I . . . .  Ms. Vance Joy fan,” he returns, holding your gaze. The sincerity in his words gets under your skin, going straight to your heart. The sarcastic joke inside of them makes you giggle.
Clearing your throat, you look away with what you’re sure are blushing cheeks. Most likely, an entire blushing face. “What are you doing here, anyways, if you were gone for the day?”
“I can’t miss me boys’ big game, a few o’ me students are on tha team. I thought I’d catch up on sum emails and grading befo’hand, but didn’t know ya’d still be here.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I was just leaving, anyways,” you mutter, your movements stilling.
“I didn’t mean it dat way, love. ‘m glad we finally met, it was about time, anyways,” Harry insists, and you nod before continuing to place a book at each desk. “Hey wait, you said you were short and all plain in yer note. No, yer not, ya fibber.”
“Oh like your description was any more accurate,” you scoff lightheartedly, setting down a book before grabbing another from your dwindling stack.
His rich laugh meets your ears, and you can’t resist looking over to him. “Ya didn’t give yerself enough credit, ya know,” he almost coos, and you swear your heart melted into a puddle right then and there. That’s if it hadn’t done so already when you realized he’s Green Eyes. Swoon.
It’s hard to hold back the excitement curling at the edge of your lips. Soon, you run out of books again and when you take a peek at him, so has he.
“Were ya gonna go?” he questions, and you deal him one when you look at him confused. “T’ tha game, I mean.”
Your body feels like jello, and that any move you make would be sloppy. Embarrassing. That’s the last thing you want to look like in front of him. With his dazzling smile, adorably dimpled cheeks, and the cozy vibes he’s giving off. Not to mention, the clean citrus scent wafting off of him. A smell you certainly would be okay with smelling for hours on end. If only.
“Well bloody Rob around tha corner bailed on me, so I have an extra ticket now. Would ya like t’ join me? I was thinkin’ o’ grabbin’ a sub from ‘round tha corner befo’. Concession food ‘s always too expensive, and never worth tha lines at halftime,” Harry suggests, tucking his hands into the pockets of his jeans. One corner of his mouth climbs up his cheek, making you feel like maybe you’re not alone in these jumbled feelings. Or in the fun you’ve had carrying on this blind relationship with him.
“Yeah, that sounds like fun. Maybe we could get to know each other a little better than the few words Post-It notes can hold.”
Slowly, the other corner of his lips curls upwards, making the dimple fall into his cheek once again. Nodding, his lips split into a full-fledged smile, singing with a chuckle. “I’d really like that,” he reveals before venturing to the door and shutting off the light. Extending an arm, he waves a hand towards himself.
“Hold on, let me get my things.”
“No rush. ’s not like ‘ve waited seven months fer dis or anythin’,” he quips. By now, you’re certain your face resembles a tomato. You hope that in the muted light, perhaps he won’t notice.
Hurriedly, you slip on your light coat and drape your bag over your shoulder. Your eyes catch something as you’re tucking your phone in your pocket. Grabbing one last thing, you turn to find him watching you from the lit doorway.
“What?” he wonders aloud, still with that smile etched onto his face. One you’re fairly sure you could get used to seeing.
“Here,” you tell him, placing the Post-It note in his palm. His fingers dotted with dark hairs brush against you, just for a second longer than need be.
“Ah, can’t forget dis now. Important stuff here.”
“Indeed,” you note, stifling a laugh as the sarcasm floats in the air.
You observe his eyes flit across the paper holding your cursive as your steps echo down the empty hallway.
“Hmmm, funny. It says ‘would you like to meet up sometime’ on here,” Harry reads, casting his twinkling eyes to you. Green eyes. “I was jus’ ‘bout t’ ask ya tha same thing on me next note. But I had sumthin’ that woulda took tha cake fer sure.”
“What’s that?” you remark, wondering how that could be. Those thoughts fly out the window when you feel his arm come around your shoulder. A squeal sounds inside of your head, but hey, at least that’s far less embarrassing than doing it out loud.
“I was gonna tell ya dat Tracy across tha hall from me ‘s leavin’ afta dis year, and I may have recommended a certain sumbody t’ tha principal t’ replace her,” Harry hums, a knowing glint dancing in his eyes as they hover over you. “What d’ya say t’ bein’ colleagues instead o’ bein’ me sub?”
“I think I could get used to that,” you answer, letting your smile take over your entire face.
“So could I, love. So could I.”
