From @renatahannans - I guess the neighbors think I'm selling HOPE! Less than one month I met Judge Suzanne Bass she allows juveniles in her delinquency court to read books and write a report in exchange for 5 community service hours. She showed me her library and I noticed that there was not alot of relevant reading material for African American children. (70% of the children in her courtroom are black) I told her not to worry that I would donate to it. I got the crazy idea to donate 1000 books for my 33rd birthday to the children of my community. With the help of my FB friends, family and God I have exceeded my goal. I want to thank everyone that contributed your finances, books or title suggestions. On Tuesday May 30th I will be dropping off the books. It is my prayer that the children that get them learn something and put down all things negative and pick up a book! OW: As I'm from the U.S. it would be stateside, otherwise, for my time in CPT you can find me in a cafe around town doing freelance graphic design work.

A: What music can we expect from you on the night?

OW: When I spin, I take the crowd on a journey, hip-hop can morph into broken beat, funk breaks can more into afro-beat, leading the afro-latin rhythms back to future-beat hip-hop.

E: I work as a producer for The Ready D Show on Good Hope FM and also run a non-profit called Hip Hop Education South Africa. When I’m not working on radio or in schools, I’m binge watching Youtube videos on DJ technology or entrepreneurship.

A: What music can we expect from you on the night? 

E: Since it’s a sneaker store I’d probably do a mix of boom bap hip hop tracks and fuse it with some chill trap vibes and break beats. Think Soulection or Ninja Tunes.

E: It must be the Free Community Concert hosted by organisers of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival in 2016 where a crowd of over 15 000 people were singing along to songs of Bob Marley & Michael Jackson. That was an incredible night and sadly my set was not recorded.

A: How would you describe your style/genre of music.

E: I’m what you call an open format DJ so I play everything across the board, as long as it’s got rhythm & soul, and my forte is definitely hip-hop. I’ve also been around for a while so would usually throw in original classics where most of today’s hit songs were sampled from in my sets. My style has no boundaries, I just like to blend unexpected sounds/songs together seamlessly and have fun with it.

Recap: Recline VII x adidas Originals Deerupt

The brand   

adidas ZA stepped into the Recline space on Friday, 6 April to disrupt the streets of Cape Town with the freshly debuted #Deerupt - a silhouette taking inspiration from vintage running styles, more specifically the adidas Marathon which featured a mesh support structure on the midsole and which was also one of the last shoes that Adolf “Adi” Dassler himself was involved in developing.  

Recline 

Recline is a monthly event at Archive where we collaborate with a brand to host a selection of up-and-coming DJs and artists. It’s a space where you - the heart and sole of sneakers in the city - can kick back and immerse yourself in everything you love most: music, sneakers, streetwear and art. We want to make sure you’re there, so that you can school anyone looking to someday walk in your shoes.

JP: All over Cape Town, the last two years I’ve been a regular behind the decks at most of the Capes hottest clubs such as Fiction, The Waiting Room, the Loft, as well as playing on some of the biggest events not just in the city but around the country.

JP: Free flowing and energetic , a huge fan of genre hoping during my sets, but you'll mostly hear hip, Rnb and grimey trap.
