6 Reasons You’ll Scream for THE HANGING GIRL
October is here, which means everything gets colder...including the books. Chilly thrillers are our fall favorites, and it doesn’t get much better than THE HANGING GIRL by Eileen Cook! Why? Here’s 10 terrifying reasons you have to read it...
Tumblr media
1. It’s a crazy game of two truths and...a thousand lies.
The main character, Skye, has gotten herself in a bit of a jam. She told one lie when she was younger that spun out of control, and when she got caught, her rep never really recovered. THE HANGING GIRL is the story of what happens when one little lie—that she was going to move in with her best friend after high school—does the same exact thing, but this time, Skye knows if she’s found out, she’ll lose everything.

2. Every character is just as complicated...including Skye’s mother.
If you like complex mother-daughter drama, this is definitely the book for you. Skye’s taken her bad rep and made the best of it by performing fake tarot card readings for the kids at her school in exchange for cold heart cash. But she does feel guilty for it—for the most part. That’s because compared to her mother, who is so delusional that she actually believes she’s psychic, Skye is the good guy.

3. It examines the trappings—and the cost—of both great privilege, and poverty.
Skye doesn’t have a lot of money. That’s what got her into this sticky situation in the first place...and so when she decides to do something absolutely totally ridiculously DESPERATE to get enough cash to cover up her lie, that’s when things get interesting. It forces you to think about what you would do, if forced into a rock and a hard place and you could either protect your reputation, or sacrifice your soul. On the flip side, there’s another character—a girl who goes missing in the midst of all of this—who comes from a lot of privilege, and all the money Skye never had. What was her story, you wonder...

4. Crime drama!
For any fans of Law & Order, NCIS, Criminal Minds...and any psychological thriller ever, THE HANGING GIRL has all the trappings. Cops that may or may not be crooked, suspicious ex-boyfriends, ransom money, and an accidental death all collide to make Skye’s life pretty complicated.

5. Best friends who (try to) save the day.
Skye’s BFF is the only one who stuck by her side after everyone called her a liar and a fake when her first big lie got revealed. Their friendship may be on thin ice because of Skye’s deception, but she knows that at the end of the day, they can always count on each other...and they may have to, to survive.

6. A deceptively hidden call-out...
Fans of Eileen Cook’s have probably already read WITH MALICE (and if you haven’t, when you’re done with THE HANGING GIRL, pick that up next!) and if you have, pay close attention: there’s a pretty sly slip in the early chapters that reveals that these two stories take place in the same world.
We can’t wait for you to dive into this deliciously devious thriller, which is available today, October 3rd! You can order it now at any of the links below.
