🥚✨❄️🦉 Started the year out reading The Guardians of Childhood book series I got as a Christmas present in 2020. The Dreamworks Movie is one of my favorites and I was itching to finally read the series that inspired it. This was definitely a case of the movie took the premise of the stories but was a new story. The first three books were definitely my favorite in the series. I loved the way each guardian was brought into the group. I was a little lost when I first started the last book, but about halfway through the author catches you up on what happened between the two books. I loved Nightlight, North, Toothiana, and Katherine. I’m sad the movie doesn’t have Ombric, Katherine, or the rest of Santoff Claussen, but I still loved the movie after reading the books. I’m curious how the last book would’ve been had it been finished before the movie came out. A version of The Golem. 4)The books were in stores and doing very well. 5)Soon the fans started getting into the Guardians. 6) The cosplayers believed so hard. 7)There were parades. 8) Bronze statues of the Guardians were erected. 9) It’s been seven years but the Guardians Oath still matters “We will watch over the children of earth. I’m enjoying #JackFrost by @heybilljoyce who’s such a talented illustrator as well as an author. I love the absolute sense of wild whimsy in this series and the wonderful movie, #TheGuardiansofChildhood which is a family favorite during the holidays. There’s so much to consider as I work on my presentation for a hoped for Jack Frost/Guardians television series. The look of Jack will have to change. Simplify. Series budgets are not as opulent as feature films. But I want to maintain the integrity of his design. This first drawing is basic old school Jack. The second drawing is my attempt to imagine him at half the detail. Cloth and clothing are a major expense in CG animation so the undercarriage of a characters form is important. The second drawing is an example of that. I’m hoping to incorporate the idea that I introduced in the novel that Jack can change his age from around 12 years old to an older teen. He’s carried a great burden for so many centuries. He’s fought countless wars against Pitch and done so selflessly. But now he wants at last to feel he is a part of things. That he belongs. That his ancient loneliness has mattered. That he can love and be loved in return. And that he can at last remember who and what he was and who he will be. To remember is very powerful.
