3PM ET TODAY! Desk of Ladyada - RaaAWWwwwr PLEO battery repair 🦖🤖🔋
youtube
Part 2 of Desk of Ladyada! Last week, we tackled a battery issue with our old PLEO dinosaur robot by sourcing high-capacity NiMH packs from DigiKey. And, we'll look at the need for a specific 12V US AC/DC adapter with an 800mA output and a 3.5mm OD plug to replace the UK plug, ensuring the robot could be charged again!

Desk of Ladyada - Final Revision Push, 600 and beyond 🛠️🔍🕒
youtube
Finishing a 16-month revision push for designs like CLUE and Feather Sense boards, popular for Bluetooth LE and sensors. Despite chip shortages, new prototypes are underway, including a Feather Sense TFT board. A search for LSM6DS33 replacements due to IMU shortages in 2021/2022 is ongoing, aiming to restock sensor-rich designs.

TPA6130 is an I2C-controlled Stereo Headphone Amp 🎧🔊📻
While working on our rev B of the DS4420 mono audio amplifier with I2C control, we remembered that we also covered the TPA6130A2 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/texas-instruments/TPA6130A2RTJR/1531096) on a Great Search video twoish years ago (https://blog.adafruit.com/2022/08/30/the-great-search-stereo-headphone-amplifier-with-i2c-control-thegreatsearch-audio-digikey-digikey-adafruit/) this chip is a headphone amp that can drive 300mW into 16 ohm loads, from differential inputs. The gain can be configured over I2C, mute, and a few other minor configurations. We put a headphone jack on this board to be used instantly for audio projects! Coming soon.

Great Search part turns into an ultra-precision temp+RH sensor 🌡️🔍💧
A few weeks ago we were looking at the latest in temperature and humidity sensors on The Great Search (https://blog.adafruit.com/2024/03/04/the-great-search-high-accuracy-temperature-humidity-sensor-thegreatsearch-digikey-digikey-adafruit/) and we chanced across the HDC3020 series (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/texas-instruments/HDC3020DEFR/17884961) of 'ultra accurate' humidity sensors, with 0.5% accuracy in most cases. this seems like a nice addition to our collection of environmental sensors so we spun out a quick QT sensor (https://www.adafruit.com/stemma) for plug-n-play usage. the HDC can use 2-5V power and logic so no level shifting required! and you can select up to 4 I2C addresses, using jumpers on the back.

EYE SPI with my little eyes, a new accessory for our QT Py
We have done 300 revisions https://blog.adafruit.com/2023/04/27/300 including just-about-all of our OLED, E-Ink and TFT displays to add EYE SPI connectors https://www.adafruit.com/search?q=eye+spi to make it very fast and easy to wire up displays, touchscreens and microSD cards without a ton of breadboarding. yay! but now we have to make the controller side easy as well. First up, this EYE SPI accessory for the QT Py uses a slim FPC connector https://blog.adafruit.com/2023/04/04/the-great-search-narrow-body-fpc-connector-with-18-pins-and-0-5mm-pitch-thegreatsearch-digikey-digikey-adafruit/ and makes plug-n-play connectivity to our 2.8" capacitive touch screen child's-play https://www.adafruit.com/product/2090 works a treat - we'll be getting this into the adafruit shop faster than you can blink.
