Let's put aside the fact that the reblog tree diverged from the OP and other people coming in to defend her racist actions were on the receiving of the argument for why exactly what this girl did is wrong and demonstrative of institutionalized racism.

It's a fairly big thing to put aside, but since you advocate telling minorities to shut up in the first place, I don't think we'll have a problem with this.

Why what she did is racist, whether she wants to acknowledge it or not: 

By dressing up in a bright colored poncho and a sombrero and then putting that picture up and saying "I was mexican today" she is making a statement to the world that this is what mexicans are like, this is all that they are, that when you, the viewer, look at her, you are seeing in its entirety what it is to be mexican.

To draw comparisons to other social issues that might make you understand this better and why, exactly, it's wrong, that would be like if I

put on black makeup, stuffed my butt, and wore whatever clothing it is that "stereotypical black women" wear and then said, "hey, look, I'm a black woman today!"

dressed myself as a man, complete with a fake beard, and then said, "hey, I'm a transgender person today!"

dressed myself in middle eastern garb and said, "hey, I'm arab today!"

and then justified all that in the name of "education". As if saying that it was for education automatically excuses shit behavior and serves as justification for perpetuating stereotypes. As if education cannot be a flawed institution, with subjects taught by flawed people. As if saying the word education means that it's okay.

We'll ignore that part, too, which you should be fine with as well.

Don't tell minorities to ignore institutionalized racism. And yes, this is demonstrative of institutionalized racism, whether you want to believe so or not. It's offensive and wrong and if people don't call out this kind of behavior, then it will never stop.

"Racism" and "sexism" are not "things we make up" as your quotation marks suggest. If you don't want to see people fighting these causes, then get off tumblr and take your sorry ass somewhere else. Or heed your own advice and don't get involved in the first place. After all, practice what you preach, eh?

This isn't a matter of "finding something entertaining and other people disagree with you", this is a matter of institutionalized racism. So grow up and get real. 

You know what people don't need to listen to? Entitled assholes like yourself shouting at them to be silent.

No one is telling this girl to act and look like everyone else. No one is saying we all need to be the same. In fact, ironically, that was almost certainly the point of her educational culture day in the first place - to celebrate diversity. 

She may be a "poor girl" who "didn't know she'd done wrong" but she needs to be told exactly why what she did is offensive, and other people need to hear it as well. So that everyone sees that this is still an issue that we as a society need to work through, to resolve. So that everyone sees what racism can and does look like, how insidious it is, how pervasive it is.

And as someone who supposedly supports the LGBT community, judging from some things you reblogged, you should be ashamed for telling mexicans offended over this post to effectively get over themselves.

Because if it's not your chosen minority it doesn't need to be heard, right?
