The experience of reading this book has been amazing. The beautiful portrayal of the ever present relationship between man and God left me awestruck. The journey of love is represented such magically which broadened my thinking about this matter. The understanding of the relationship between God and his creation can seem difficult; yet in this book, that has been discussed with a great clarity. This book discusses love not necessarily in a particular way. But it shows the significance of love as a feeling, in general. This book portrays the importance of love for own self, for the beautiful creation of the Almighty and the same for that creator.

Overall, this book is certainly one of the favourites and I humbly welcome you all to embark on this quest for love.

This book kept me awake at night. I loved this unique love story that's so much more than just a story. It's a beautifully written work of art. I especially love how it takes two timelines side by side. Two stories are unfolding, centuries apart, and yet somehow they feel like the same. I find it to be a thought-provoking book that aligns with some of my personal beliefs. I will recommend this book but also caution you it's not for everyone. It's a hit-or-miss kind of book. You will either love it as I did or hate it. WHIRLING DERVISH Reading Elif Shafak makes me feel like I'm frequenting a world that is not mine and it makes me miss my real place. It makes me look at people and situations I've dismissed, with fresh light. And it makes me wonder why I'm chasing the ones I am. I feel listened to, between the stories of an unwed mother, a talentless poet, a tattooed nihilist, a Sufi mystic and a bored housewife. These are the people I have been, will be, the selves I am. While life goes on endlessly barrelling forward, I skid, screeching brakes, pause, stop, slow down to correct that thought and say, no it does not go on endlessly. It stops. It crashes. It fades. I pick out a description of a smoky cafe with a pretentious name, a meeting with an authority figure interrupted by a wandering dervish. And I choose it over the conversation about price points at the neighbouring table of the coffeeshop I'm at. I carry it with me as I navigate booking a cab on an app, ordering dessert on another, swiping my train card. At least the last feels closer to the world I have in my head than the other things my eyes and ears feed me. There is love outside the paan-spattered Bollywood posters and wannabe posers I pass. There is joy beyond the neon lights and darkness past the black humour being traded for attention at open mics. Can I still seek God where religion interferes with architecture, where faith determines politics? I must. How else can I breathe? Even as my words dance around the easily angered, the quick to violence, I realise this churning, this silent yearning, this is after all, my whirling. I look away from my book. The image takes a few seconds to fade away. The mood, long after. The whirling, I hope never. Un libro davvero affascinate questo "Le quaranta porte" in cui l'autrice Elif Shafak ci fa compiere un viaggio attraverso la Turchia del XIII secolo facendoci anche conoscere le famose “quaranta regole dell’Amore” (dal titolo originale “The Forty Rules of Love”) Qui si riesce a vedere un mondo davvero molto differente da quello che ci viene presentato oggi, in cui l'Islam, il sufi e le differenze dal mondo occidentale non portano all'odio, ma affascinano e ti inducono a volere conoscere e comprendere.
