The sight of him sets Theo’s senses on edge, and he is suddenly overcome with an inexplicable sense of foreboding. There is something… familiar about the apparent stranger; a phantom outline of a person Theo once knew but can no longer place. He studies the figure in desperation, frantic eyes scouring him for any indication to grasp onto. Then, suddenly, he speaks, and Theo’s blood runs cold. The man’s skin is tanned and weathered from the elements, and a layer of grime has formed so thickly on his chest, face, and hands that it’s unclear if he will ever be completely rid of it. His hair is longer than Theo has ever seen it, trailing out of a loose queue, and he carries himself with a dejection that renders him near unrecognizable. Near, but not quite. Theo would know that voice anywhere.

I think they could have done more with Hector as a character in general, considering what he and Karl risked to be together. Philip Anthony-Rodriguez has done a great job with his few brief moments on screen but I would have just liked to have seen a scene or two with just him and Karl together to better establish the relationship. I know Karl eschews the idea of Hector being around when he gets euthanized because he doesn’t want Hector to have a breakdown, but we don't see much of the bond.

Oh definitely agree. I mean they really should have included him more in some previous episodes (before Karl finally ended his life) because otherwise it just seems like he comes and goes. Like you said, we don’t see the bond. In fact I wasn’t even sure he was still with Hector at first because there hadn’t been a mention of him for a while. And I feel like Simone would have been perfectly happy for Hector to move in with them - at least especially when Karl was sick and he could have helped her take care of him.

I don’t have much complaints for this show but this is definitely one of them.

I honestly feel like Taylor has been hit by the "woke olympics" brigade. There have been a ton of people who've come out of the woodwork waiting with bated breath to see how celebrities are going to screw up so they can jump down their throats while parading their own moral superiority (Emma Watson and Michelle Gomez got the same shit). Meanwhile, the pettiness is drowning out black voices that deserve to be heard.

I definitely agree. Like, people are dying and we’re out here arguing about where the bar lies for how much a celebrity should post about this in order to be a proper ally. But if they post too much, they’re drowning out black voices!! And you can be sure that if she posted a lot, these same people would be jumping down her throat because “omg, taylor, you’re a white girl, shut up, let actual black people talk.” Literally three days ago people were complaining that performative allies on social media were taking over the blm hashtag and drowning out critical information. Maybe, knowing what a following she has, she didn’t want to draw attention to herself and make the conversation about her (because you know the second she posts something, the media will make it about her), and instead posted links to things her followers could DO, and then left space for actual black voices. I always got the sense that Taylor is the kind of person who will quietly donate a bunch of money to a cause in question, not brag about it, and then step aside to let the actual marginalized people in question talk. I don’t know how much money she donated, maybe because she doesn’t want to draw attention to it by bragging about it?? But I’d bet it’s in the millions. Should she maybe have reposted more resources or more links or ‘amplified’ more black voices? idk. I also feel that it’s kind of ridiculous to judge celebrities based on how much they post about this because, like, they’re not lawmakers. They don’t have any actual power to change laws. They have a lot of influence to get you to write to your representative or go protest, whatever, but the nature of being a celebrity is that your entire life becomes performative. Maybe she didn’t want to be a performative white girl on instagram, which is what everyone would accuse her of being anyway?

What The Heart Wants Most

So...this happened. Got a bit of dialogue in my head that wouldn’t come out, Hope you all enjoy! 

“She never stopped being the one you wanted, did she? Ol’ Norri,” Jack drawled as he crossed the decks toward James, making the latter quickly avert his eyes elsewhere to avoid Elizabeth’s notice. She was far too quick in the ear and eye, and it seemed Jack Sparrow was just the same.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he replied, avoiding the gaze of the pirate captain and staring out to open sea. There was something comforting and familiar about the waves crashing against the hull of the ship, sea birds flying past, and the promise of more life in the water below. It brought him back, for a moment, to happier times, a life he had lived and loved before it was all torn apart by the sea and the pirate standing beside him with a saucy grin that made James want to shoot him.

“The girl. Lovely little Governor’s daughter,” he said, trying and failing to keep the bit of condescension, like he was talking to a child instead of a seasoned Navy man, out of his voice. “Remember when I met you both. The way you looked at her, then...the compass.” As if on cue, the said compass emerged from Jack’s pocket, the top flipped off. While it seemed to spin aimlessly while in Jack’s hand, it stopped and fixated directly on Elizabeth the moment it was placed in James’ hand.

James rolled his eyes, snapping the top down just as he did the first time he examined it. “The compass that doesn’t work. I don’t see your point, Sparrow.”

Jack pressed the compass closer into James’ hand, opening it up again. “Doesn’t point north, mate. Just the thing you want most, which is her. Go get her. I’m rooting for you, mate!”

As Jack walked away, he turned back toward Elizabeth. Wondering what might have been if he had the courage to speak up again.

Haha, I have no idea why but any time I read one of your fics it is accompanied by one (or a few) glasses of wine. I'm rereading "Redemption's Promise" for the umpteenth time and I just get so emotional (and horny, but I didn't say that out loud. You can't prove anything). XD

First of all, I am touched and delighted that you’ve so enjoyed my fic that you’ve come back to reread it more than once. There are few greater compliments an author can receive!

Secondly, which wine do you find pairs the best with Redemption’s Promise? I would probably choose a sweet red. Or maybe even a sparkling brut!

And third, I mean...I did write it. Individuals who reside in horny houses should not throw stones.~
