Character: Mabel Collins Species: Fae Age: 27 Gender: Female Pronouns: She/her Occupation: Ferry Runner By: Amp
Biography
Born on the Oregon coast, Mabel Collins spent every waking moment she could outdoors for as long as she could remember. She was completely fascinated with the miracle of nature: from the migrating habits of monarch butterflies, to the mysteries of what lies in the deepest corners of the ocean. Her parents raised and nurtured her affinity, and by the time Mabel was sixteen, she was completely devoted to spending her life defending the earth and being a voice for the creatures that could not speak for themselves. She graduated college at twenty with degrees in environmental science and policy, and immediately began work with a non-profit company for marine conservation.
At age twenty-one, she met Kyle Gardner and the two married before setting off to Brazil to protest the deforestation of the Amazon. For nearly five years Mabel thought she had the perfect life. She had a career she loved, with a man who loved her completely...Or so she thought.
Her life snowballed out of control in a matter of months. It began when Mabel found Kyle in bed with an undergrad student interning with their company from the local college. In a fit of fury, she kicked him to the curb and burned his belongings. Before long she couldn’t bear to be in the house they’d made in California for another second. She signed on with a new project working to clean garbage out of the ocean.
A week before she was to depart for foreign waters, Mabel was arrested for protesting government drilling on indigenous land. A small act of defiance on her part had incited a riot, accompanied by felony charges. Despite an outpouring of support from the public, she was no match for a corporate legal team. She plead guilty in exchange for the felony charge being dropped, but her dreams of sailing foreign seas and cleaning up the ocean were done.
She needed to disappear. Whether it was fate or something else entirely that brought Mabel to Henrietta, Texas she will never know. What she did know that a secluded island in the middle of the lake where no man dared to tread sounded like exactly what she needed. After legally dropping her last name, Mabel fashioned herself after the naiads: river guardians from old myths and legends. With a new identity in place, she moved to Murkwood and took a job on the Godmother Ferry. Maybe it wasn’t sailing the world like she’d dreamed, but Mabel would make the most of it.
Personality
She’s very “passionate” about nature. And while intrigues some, it leaves many of the Henrietta locals with a sour taste in their mouths when she tells them everything they could be doing to protect the earth from the dangers of “man.”

Beyond excited to find out all the town had to offer, Addie stuck her nose quite a few places it didn’t belong that summer but with her outgoing, friendly nature, no one really gave her a hard time. Making friends with whoever would talk to her, and even some of those she had to really push to talk, Addie soon fit right in with the rest of Henrietta.
