This combined with the fact that Kan says to Vegas that he is like his mother, in an insulting way, just makes me think even more of how they are similar aside from realizing that their fathers are bad to them and yet wanting to make their fathers proud.
Maybe if they managed to actually sit down together and talked about their shitty fathers and their (probably nice) relationships with their mothers, they would be able to form a much powerful Theerapanyakul leadership than either Kan or Korn could have ever imagined.
thinking about kinn and his "people say i'm more like my mom." thinking about who possibly could have said that to him.
maybe he looks like his mom. maybe adults used to say it to him all the time when he was a kid, as he held back from hiding behind his mother's skirts — he looks so much like you, such a darling. maybe his mom dressed impeccably, and kinn wanted so bad to look as good as her (all three of them did) and every time he wears something in a particular shade of red he thinks about her.
maybe his mom was so good to the staff, and the staff would praise him in corridors for being a good leader just like her. maybe his mom was a crack shot, an unbelievable marksman, and he learned how to hold a gun from her. maybe his mom used to sing.
but when korn says it — and he does — it isn't a compliment. your mother corroded me, korn says. your mother corroded you, he means. if you were more like me, and less like her, we would all be better off. you are weaker for having known her.
and despite all of that, kinn says it with such pride. i am more like her. i recognize that as a strength, regardless of what my father tells me. in a long string of concessions to his father, it shines as one of the only parts of himself he stands up for — and he does it right from the beginning.

Idk if this is a controversial opinion but I low-key hate when people make Kim and his brothers distant but decide Kim is besties with Vegas at the same time
Kim had no problem walking into a random warehouse and immediately shooting at Vegas on sight
Like idc if it's just that Vegas and Kim are friends/friendly but it's when they specifically add that they are friends and Kim hates his brothers/does not interact with them but he kept in touch with Vegas?

Why are you in my head???? But also, I totally agree with you and I wanna talk about it. I even added gifs that sort of express my point, because I know so many people get bored of my walls of text.
I touch on this some in my fics and my discussions about my unhinged Season 2. I do see the entirety of the TPK (TPK is how I abbreviate Theerapanyakul) family becoming endeared to Chay quite quickly. Chay is set up as this sweet, very sunshine character, who would not adore him? He's not as guarded as the Family, he's very honest, he has no ulterior motives, he's someone the Family would see as innocent. Because he was not raised in their world, he also someone they would see as needing protection, but where I think the minor family would commit to making sure he could protect himself, the main family would follow Porsche's lead which is to protect Porchay, but keep him as ignorant as possible (which is not a functional long-term strategy and something Chay would resent).
In regards to a Kinn-Porchay relationship...I think it's something that takes time, and doesn't come easily. Part of that is because Kinn will defer to Porsche in regards to decisions that affect Chay, which is understandable, but also because Kinn is someone who has distanced himself from his family pretty severely. Like in the scene after Korn's 'death', he's fully separate from his brothers, the physical distance between Kinn and his brothers alluding to the emotional distance.
Tumblr media
And the scene perfectly depicts all three of them. Kim, who's lost a lot of his respect and love for his father is almost unmoved. Tankhun, the only brother who's been regularly allowed to show any extreme emotion (which was allowed only because he's 'mentally disturbed') is incredibly distraught. And Kinn is clearly upset, but as the new leader can't allow himself to give into his grief. Kinn has distanced himself from emotion and his siblings in order to 'better perform' his role as the leader of the Family. Because he's been maintaining that distance for so long, it's not easy for him to create a connection with Porchay. It's not a lack of care or desire to form a bond with Chay, but a lack of knowledge of how to build it from the ground up. Because his bond with his siblings is one that was just there, and while the experiences of their last decade or so would have weakened it, it is something rebuildable with effort. Personally in my fics for interactions with them I try to show Kinn as trying you know, he's consistently and purposefully trying to be conscious of Chay and his feelings. It's awkward, a bit weird sometimes, but there's active effort put in. But I also feel like there's just not much common ground for Kinn and Chay outside of Porsche, and it's reasonable that at least for a while there's resentment on Chay's part. Kinn has brought Porsche into this dangerous world, a world he and his brother had despised. He finds out that Korn and Gun are in some way responsible for the loss of his parents. There's a lot of understandable reasons for Chay to not want to create a positive connection with Kinn, especially in the beginning. I think it's really seeing Porsche happy and the clear love and affection that Kinn has for Porsche that eventually softens him towards Kinn, but again that takes time.
Tumblr media
Moving into Chay and Kim interactions with the minor family, as Macau is closest in age with him, and given the very similar situations of the brothers of the minor family and the Kittisawat brothers, it makes so much sense for them to be able to create a bond. You have two sets of brothers that are both approximately the same age, both grew up majority without a maternal figure, and with a less than great paternal figure. Older brother was consistently attempting to shield younger brother from the harsh realities of life, and was only occasionally successful. Like, it would be so simple for them to have a basis of understanding each other. It's why Porsche's assessments of Vegas (and his trustworthiness) are understandable, especially after he sees him interacting with Macau. (Sidenote: I think Tankhun seeing how Vegas cares for his brothers, esp. once Venice enters the picture is what will turn his opinion around as he'll see they have more in common as eldest siblings wanting to protect their brothers.)
Tumblr media
In terms of Kim and Vegas...they are also mirrors of each other to a certain extent. Even though one is the oldest and one the youngest in their sibling sets, they are approximately the same age. They both developed a distrust of their fathers they couldn't fully verbalize to anyone. They were both used by their fathers. We see that directly with Vegas, but I don't think it's outside of the realm of possibility that Korn was having Kim perform tasks for him secretly. I personally headcanon that it was part of the agreement to allow Kim to move out and pursue a career as WiK.
In addition to those similarities, let's talk about their roles in the family. Standard mafia hierarchies, you have your head, then you have your right hand man (usually along the lines of an enforcer). Korn leads the family, as the head of the minor family Gun performs that role as enforcer. Moving to the next generation Tankhun would have been trained as heir, with Kinn training to be his right hand up until his final kidnapping and him stepping down as heir. Once Kinn takes over as heir, Kim would be the one expected to become his right hand, and that would have continued until Kim decided to leave. At that point Vegas would be the one brought forward to become Kinn's right hand. Which means that both Kim and Vegas would have spent years training in similar manners with the expectation that they would become essentially weapons at the disposable of Kinn. All of this is to say that Kim and Vegas are set up to have a great deal of common ground, and by the end of season 1 they both trust Korn as far as Chay could throw him, so it's not unlikely that they would be able to create at the very least a neutral relationship, nor unreasonable to think that they could create a friendly one. Especially if you consider that Vegas would have more respect for Kim as someone who clearly distrusts Korn, and also as someone who willingly stepped away from the main family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One last point, because it's a comparison that's important to the conversation. In regards to Macau and Pete's relationship as in-laws vs. Kinn and Chay's, when you look at it from the younger's perspective Kinn took Porsche away from Chay, but Pete brought Vegas back to Macau. Like if you just look at it from the MOST basic angle. So Macau is starting off reconciling the VegasPete relationship from a place of gratitude. He's also dealing with Pete, who while very circumspect much of the time, is still a very friendly and genuine guy. He doesn't have the standoffish-ness of Kinn. And there would maybe have been some hesitation, since Pete worked for the main family, but Pete is very much a person who shows himself through action. Pete leaving the main family, being allowed to leave (which means a lot), directly saving Vegas's life, and being consistently there for both Vegas and Macau in the month Vegas is unconscious. It would have demonstrated to Macau exactly the type of person Pete is, and how he feels about Vegas. And as a younger brother who truly cares about his older brother, he would of course want Vegas to be with someone who so very clearly cares for him, and TAKES CARE of him. You add to that the fact the Pete not only takes care of Vegas, but also is active in taking care of Macau.
Tumblr media
So there you go, 1200 words on interpersonal family relationships among the TPK family. I swear I don't have the ability to keep posts like this under 1000 words. But regardless, I hope you enjoyed my thoughts, and if you like I would enjoy hearing yours.
Also when searching for VegasPeteMacau gifs this came up...
Tumblr media
...so here's your reward for reading this whole post, and let me know which cat you think is which member of the minor family.
Maybe its just me but I cant see Kinn and Chay really being close the way I see Pete and Macau. I actually think Chay gets along with Pete and Vegas more. They teach him self defense and are more honest about the things happening around them, keeping him in the loop, etc. Which fits fine with my other headcanons, cause I also think Kim and Vegas get along in a weird way. Once he and Chay get their shit together, Kim fits in easy with Chays ‘new friends’
Anyway this is the first step in what I call  the “unifying the Theerapanyakul family” agenda

Obvs Vegas has issues and has egregiously violated Porche’s trust in the auction ep, but if he hadn’t done that, I think they could have made an awesome team
I can’t remember the title rn but there’s a k/p fic with platonic vegas/porche as the leading relationship and my dude, it is awesome how competent these two can be when working together

Does anyone else see the vision of an alternate universe where Vegas and Macau were adopted into the main family, so when Pete comes around Vegas and Tankhun are duking it out over who gets him as a bodyguard? Wait, give me a second:
In this universe, the uncle is slain and Vegas and Macau are brought into the main family. There could be any reason for this, I like making Mama Theerapanyakul alive and having her go "I can excuse emotional abuse, but I draw the line at physical abuse" (I have opinions about the former matriarch). It ultimately doesn't matter, this is just the set-up.
So Vegas and Macau grow up as main family members (while reminded of the difference), and they are around for everything. All the usual bodyguards joining, Tankhun's kidnapping, etc. Vegas is Kinn's little shadow and they have a better relationship (regular sibling rivalry rather than i want to kill you and usurp your throne cousin rivalry) and eventually Vegas is set to be the minor head to Kinn's major head and they are gucci.
At some point, Pete joins the bodyguard.
I imagine this would happen a little bit after Tankhun's kidnapping, and the only reason he is here is because Chan is covering up Pete murdering his abusive father and being a former boxer means Pete has some skills to shape into a bodyguard. Plus, Tankhun lost his usual rotation and they are having a hard time to get someone into his guard rotation because the former heir has PTSD so Pete can be groomed into the guard Tankhun needs.
It works, Tankhun likes Pete and goes "Mine".
The problem is Vegas had a nightmare flare-up, and happens to talk with Pete and they bond over shit dads and Vegas thinks Pete is so cool because he got to kill his dad and oh no there is the Theerapanyakul obsession. This will end well.
So the day comes where Pete is meant to get his official assignment, and he thinks it is going to be for Tankhun because that is the entire purpose he is there except suddenly Vegas wants Pete and sure Tankhun wants Pete but Vegas wants Pete, carnally.
Anyways, that is the basic plot idea.
Bonus points if there is some age fuckery, like Pete is about Kinn's age and Vegas is younger than Kinn so the showdown goes a little:
Tankhun, in his twenties traumatized and determined, yanking Pete in one direction: He is my bodyguard. Vegas, snot-nosed teenager with massive spoil brat energy, pulling Pete in the opposite direction: He is my husband. Pete, freshly eighteen just trying to see another day: What?

Here is my role reversal AU where the Kittisawats are the powerful mafia family, and the Theerapanyakuls are the poor brothers cousins trying to survive. Also they’re all sex workers.
Tankhun is the overworked and overstressed eldest trying to take care of his family. Korn is a sick old man, likely to die any day now, and Gun is their shady, unreliable uncle who takes advantage of his brother’s failing health and the boys for his own gain. He’s part of a low-level gang; robberies, muggings, minor car theft. Nothing that would get the attention of actual organized criminals. A scumbag.
Kinn and Vegas are the primary supports. Tankhun does his best, but he’s got his own trauma to work through. Kinn is the bartender fucking patrons for extra tips; Vegas is just a prostitute, and he doesn’t try to hide it. He also deals drugs on the side, and sometimes is forced into helping with Gun’s crimes. First as a lookout when he was young, then as an active participant. Kinn and Khun both fight with him about his methods. Kinn, because he thinks Vegas is reckless, getting involved with his father like that. He won’t be able to avoid the police forever if he keeps engaging in violent crime. Vegas thinks none of them can afford to be scrupulous with their morals, and none of them can deny that he delivers.
Tankhun, a former prostitute himself, until he was kidnapped and… had a bad time… scolds Vegas for being so reckless with his own sex work. He’s terrified of anyone in his family going through the same things he did. Now he’s agoraphobic as hell, terrified of strangers, and only manages to pull himself together for the sake of his family. He still does sexwork, but now he’s just a camboy; there isn’t much else he can do that doesn’t require him to leave the house, when he’s a college drop-out with no qualifications or marketable skills.
Kim’s bright plan was to become a YouTube sensation, get famous, and make it so none of his family ever has to work again. It doesn’t pan out quite that way. He does have and maintain a channel for his music, sharing recording equipment with Tankhun, but it’s small time. He does have a significant amount of subscribers; between that and his patreon, it’s not enough to live off of, but it’s enough for him to put himself through school. Anything extra he gets goes towards his family; Tankhun always tries to protest, but Kim can see the way some of the tension leaves his eyes when he doesn't have to worry about the month’s bills. Unlike the elder cousins, the closest Kim ever comes to sex work is playing his guitar shirtless on his patreon. Maybe a couple times people have offered to pay him for ~extra services~, but he just can’t bring himself to do it.
Macau is still in high school. He tutors people for extra cash (read: does their assignments for a hefty fee) and helps Kim edit his music/videos. Wants to be a DJ someday. The two of them are close, as the babies of the family. Closer than Kim is to his own brothers, but the same can’t be said for Vegas; he and Macau are thick as thieves.
One day Kinn gets a job as a personal bartender. He doesn’t bother trying to hide that he’s working for Porsche Kittisawat, and Kim isn’t shy about calling him a kept boy. He doesn’t begrudge his brother the choices he makes, he just wishes Kinn didn’t have to make them. Kinn puts up a good front, but Kim knows the craves the intimacy of a lasting relationship. He’s desperate for something real. To love and be loved. Kim is too jaded to stake any belief in finding something like that.
Then he meets Chay.
Chay is actually a fan of his. A very generous fan who regularly makes sizeable donations. Kim owes his upgraded recording equipment to Chay’s generosity, though he has no idea who his online benefactor is.
Kim is local talent. Sometimes he gets called to play small shows every once in a blue moon. Kinn is pretty good at pulling the strings to get Kim booked at his club, courtesy of Porsche, who’s really making the offer on Chay’s behalf. It’s how Kim ends up meeting Chay. Not that he makes the connection.
Chay is in the crowd, watching him with more interest than he thinks he’s earned. Kim thinks it’s regular attraction, the kind he’s used to. Used to it dropping off when people get to see the real him too; his pretty face isn’t enough to make up for his ugly life, especially when his personality isn’t enough to act as a buffer. Kim buys him a drink after the show anyway. They talk, they flirt, Chay admits to being a fan, which is nice. Kim’s never been recognized before.
They start seeing each other. Kim still doesn’t connect Chay ro Kinn or to his favorite subscriber. Thanks to Kinn (and Chay’s) efforts, he keeps doing shows. Gets booked for better clubs as he proves himself able to handle it. He doesn't want to know what it cost his brother; he hopes it’s not too much, and Kinn always assures him he’s fine. He seems to mean it, and Kim is just selfish enough not to question it if it means his dream coming true. He starts promoting his shows online, and Chay is there at every one. Pretty soon that leads to seeing each other outside of shows, too, then going on dates.
It’s building towards something. But before they can fall over that edge, Kim finds out about everything. The mafia, Chay’s subscription, Chay getting him these shows. All but paying for him. Kim is devastated. He knew better than to trust Chay from the start, it was too good to be true, and now look at what’s happened.
He goes to his family.
Tankhun, shrewd as ever, tells him it doesn’t change anything just because he knows now. Vegas, ruthless, tells him to use Chay for everything he’s worth until the money dries up. Macau thinks it’s romantic; that Chay admired him from afar, only for them to meet by chance and fall in love. Except they didn’t meet by chance, and Kim isn’t in love.
Kinn understands, though. Kim didn’t expect him to. He didn’t give his brother enough credit. He thought Kinn would be like Vegas and Khun. Instead he tells Kim to follow his heart. He knows Kim isn’t like them, isn’t built for the kind of life where he can set aside his feelings and use someone else for his own gain. He’s too much of an artist for that.
Kim tells all of this to Chay, who says that he doesn’t want to buy Kim, either. If Kim doesn’t return his feelings, that’s okay. They can go back to the way they were. They can be friends, or Chay can just be an anonymous name on a screen. He wants to be with Kim, but he doesn’t want to pay Kim to pretend with him.
It’s exactly what Kim needed to hear.

reposting my old VegasPete murder husbands musings here because I miss them:
so imagine:
Vegas being kidnapped by the italians in retribution for their leader being offed by our favorite red flag. Being beaten to a pulp and a message sent to Kinn - ‘we have him’.
About 9 hours later all lights go off in a warehouse. Sound of shots and men yelling bloody murder ring through the doors of the makeshift cell their keeping our devil incarnate at, tied to a flimsy metal chair. With a bang doors burst open. A single silhouette emerges. Two practiced shots - one straight in a forehead, second to the gut (some well deserved pain for a good measure). A squelching stab of an eye and a grotesque yell followed by a menacing whisper ‘take a good look with the one you have left, this is what happens when you try to take what’s mine’.
Pete comes into the square of moonlight casting through the lone window of the dingy room. Face splattered with fresh crimson, eyes darting from tips of raven hair to toes clad in (ironically) italian leather. Landing at last a little sideways, at hands that hold ropes long untied.
Seriously? you know i had the training to take care of today. And with Venice teething..” an eyebrow arched in slight annoyance.
Vegas has to cough a couple of times to get his voice working, scratchy after hours of disuse: “well I figured I deserved a bit of saving. I can barely get a whiff of you before you leave the bed at fuck all hours in the morning these days”
“Vegas, we agreed…”
“I know, I know” the rope that’s been undone hours ago falling from his wrists, hands coming up in a surrendering acknowledgment, in a placating call for ‘bare with me here, love’: “I’ll stay at home with Ven for the next couple of days, take him to the pediatrician’s appointment”
Vegas rises from the chair, albeit a bit wobbly, so Pete has to reach out to worm his hands around his husband’s waist, keeping him upright.
“I know, baby. But I couldn’t give up the chance to see you all bloodied and vengeful for me now could I?” A featherlight brush of lips against the shell of Pete’s ear: “I’ll make it up to you”
“Oh, you will” solid, a promise. But Pete can’t quite hide the smirk that starts blooming at the corners of his lips.
“Where did you leave Ven?“
“At Khuns” Pete answers with an air of nonchalance that definitely doesn’t resonate with his husban’s petty resentment towards his son being babysat once again by his eldest cousin. Seriously, it has become too frequent to Vegas’ liking, how often his child has been subjected to the torture that is the presence of Thankun Theerapanyakul.
“Pete..” Vegas half whines in annoyance and half vinces from the throbbing pain at the right side of his ribs as Pete twists one of the arms around his middle to steer them towards the exit.
‘That’s what you get, you dumb oaf, for making me come all the way out here while you could’ve easily freed yourself’ Pete thinks. But instead of voicing his thoughts he stops, turns Vegas to face him, and brings a trembling palm to his husbands cheek. Eyes lock for a second that feels more like an hour. One pair breaking its facade and misting over. A kiss lands onto parched, awaiting lips.
“Fuck, Vegas…” a shakey breath between two lungs: “if anything happe-“
“I’m okay, baby. we’re okay. You got me”

"If I was Tankhun" like I didn't just spend 30 minutes detailing the way that my younger brother, my little sister and I embody Kinn, Kim & Khun......
Well, if I were Tankhun—the oldest son that failed to carry the burden his father put on his shoulders and had to pass it on to his younger brother—I too would hate my competent cousin—that is also a first born, but more suited for the family business and strong enough to take the blows for both himself and his little brother—and wish him to fail, just like me.
