Expressing my Pride in my blackness and my gayness into art. Book is "Slaves To Fashion" by Monica L Miller, and it goes into the history of black dandyism and its role in my black culture, so important considering our need for our voices to be heard. . My black gay voice also needs to be heard, and that's why I am dressed in lavender. The color is an homage to the dreaded Lavender Scare in the 1950s during Mccarthyism, when queer folx were harassed and lost their jobs, their homes, and even their lives. Queer POC suffered even more; imagine discrimination due to your sexuality, only to suffer more due to your race and your sexuality.. . It's good to remember history. My copy of Eric Cervini’s book, The Deviant’s War: The Homosexual vs. the United States of America, arrived at @GriffinBayBookstore so I walked into town for the first time in more than four months to get it. I thought it couldn’t have been that long but yes, yes it has, and wasn’t that a bit on the surreal side of things. Such was the extent of celebrating another year on the island. Later, world.
