Isn't there something about the season of spring? It might had been the thought of flowers blossoming, or more daylight unfolding. More so the hope of new beginnings, and embracing the changes that come with it. I've fallen in love with the idea of Spring, even though we never really have it. #Seasons #Tropical #TheDaysAfter (at Green Sun)

5 Important Things for Preparing for and Surviving a Disaster by J. Richardson
Hello Raven, Great to be here on your interesting blog!
Tumblr media
If I had to list five things that I think are important for preparing for and surviving a disaster I would say:
  1. Don't buy food that you don't always eat. In other words, don't store up cans of spinach or beets, unless you normally eat them. You would eat them instead of starving to death, but why be more miserable than an apocalypse already made you?
2.  Think small, start small.  One box or two under the bed or shelf of extra food is better than none.
3.  Have some stores of water.  It can be a few filled empty soda bottles. If you think you have had it too long, it is "funky", pour it out and refill it.
4.  Don't think that being prepared has to be about "Fire from the sky" events.  You might be out of work for an extended time, you might get very ill, there might be a localized but devastating event such as a tornado or hurricane.
5.  Never underestimate the desperation of your neighbors and fellow citizens.  Most will be totally unprepared for a catastrophe and hunger and panic makes for a very mean person.
I believe that the fascinating thing about dystopian fiction is that most of it is not so much about what apocalyptic event occurs, but more about what do folks do to survive it.  I particularly enjoy the fiction that is about everyday families and people who must use their smarts, determination and unity to survive. Fiction can be just as effective in teaching us new things as a boring old manual and a heck of lot more entertaining.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
J.Richardson was born in what she refers to as her beloved Texas. She has lived there all of her life and raised her family. Her children, grandchildren and one great-grandchild are scattered across the state. These days, she and her husband of 47 years, split their time between home and their summer cabin in Colorado.
Her first e-book was published this year. A life filled with rich experiences and small adventures has been the inspiration for her writing. Much of that experience derived from the partnership with her spouse in building four homes in four different locations, from scratch; from a log house in the woods of east Texas, to a lakehouse and a farmhouse, and finally, the cabin in Colorado. J. says that she is a fascinated observer of people and their endless diversity. She believes the internet is an amazing source of information and her favorite part of writing is the research.
A pen name claims ownership of her fiction writings because they are often close facsimiles of her friends and family. She admits, however, they are just as often, products of her imagination and characters she has known. The author’s favorite reads are mystery and humor, lately her passion and interest is in the fictional and real life details of prepping for disaster. She quotes, “I have strong political and patriotic views, but try to avoid them in my novels because anger is not my forte’. I always look forward to hearing from my readers.”
