The Confession

For my dear niece and fellow believer! 💕

With love 💖

Do you believe in fairies🧚‍♀️?

A little one asks

And like always, I return the question,

Do you?

*

And there flashes across the little face

A discomfort

That comes when you are positioned to justify

The existence of that which is not real to another

*

They have dared me

To ask you

If you believe in fairies.

She points to a group of more little ones

*

And I see them standing at a distance

Ardently anticipating my answer

That would confirm or reduce to nothing

Their dearly held narrative of it.

*

Scientifically, she attempts,

You can now prove they exist.

People have seen them flying

Over the House of God.

*

And I smile as she seeks

Religious legitimacy

For a fiction

That has none.

*

Do you have to prove something scientifically

For you to believe it exists? I ask

What if you can’t prove they exist?

Would you stop believing in them?

*

And you see the little face struggle

With the tough decision

To give in to a dull public consensus on the matter

Or believe in the joy of her own narrative of it.

*

If people don’t believe in it, she explains

How can we make them believe in it?

Who are the people who don’t? I ask again

Does it matter if they don’t?

*

And she thinks about it

And processes the enormity of the choice she has

And the possibility of letting go of all worries

By making it

*

I do not need people, I affirm,

To believe in something

That I can imagine

And they cannot.

*

If I believe in them

It means I can see them

And imagine them

And make stories out of them

*

Stories

Which are not true

Or real

For others

*

But which are beautiful

And

True

For me

*

As long as they matter to me

It’s okay

If they do not matter to others

Does that make sense?

*

And she nods and silently looks deep into my eyes

Knowing they were not wide shut

Like the others

Does that mean you believe in fairies?

And I smile and let her peer

Into my mirror

Which reflects back to her

The confidence of an unapologetic believer.

And I lean close

And whisper

The most important words of the moment

I do.

Finally I can start the long awaited novel by the highly talented @jessieburton "The Confession" I haven't read the Restless Girls yet, but her other two previous novels were two big breaths of fresh air and, for some reason, both touched me differently... I came with no expectations when I opened this (signed first edition!!!) beautiful jewel of a book, but was hooked already after the first pages... How naturally she describes how two people of the same sex and different age meet! I can't wait to forget about the world and submerge myself in this adventure where women are the ones who matter. I really didn't want to check any reviews as my aim is to enjoy it first hand!! I'm sure it won't disappoint! And this cover and illustration by @lucy_scholes is to die for!! One Minute Reflection – 15 August

The Confessions – Book VIII – St Augustine’s Conversion to Christ.   Augustine is deeply impressed by Simplicianus’ story of the conversion to Christ of the famous orator and philosopher, Marius Victorinus.   He is stirred to emulate him but finds himself still enchained by his incontinence and preoccupation with worldly affairs.   He is then visited by a court official, Ponticianus, who tells him and Alypius the stories of the conversion of Anthony and also of two imperial “secret service agents.”   These stories throw him into a violent turmoil, in which his divided will struggles against himself.   He almost succeeds in making the decision for continence but is still held back.   Finally, a child’s song, overheard by chance, sends him to the Bible;  a text from Paul resolves the crisis;  the conversion is a fact.   Alypius also makes his decision and the two inform the rejoicing Monica.

“For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you.”….Isaiah 41:13

REFLECTION – “And Thou didst put it into my mind and it seemed good in my own sight, to go to Simplicianus, who appeared to me a faithful servant of Thine and Thy grace shone forth in him.   I had also been told that from his youth up he had lived in entire devotion to Thee.   He was already an old man and because of his great age, which he had passed in such a zealous discipleship in Thy way, he appeared to me likely to have gained much wisdom–and, indeed, he had.   From all his experience, I desired him to tell me–setting before him all my agitations–which would be the most fitting way for one who felt as I did to walk in thy way.”…St Augustine (From the Confessions – Book VIII – Chapter 1)

PRAYER – “Go on, O Lord and act: stir us up and call us back;  inflame us and draw us to Thee;  stir us up and grow sweet to us;  let us now love Thee, let us run to Thee.   Are there not many men … who, out of a deeper pit of darkess,.. return to Thee–who draw near to Thee and are illuminated by that light which gives those who receive it power from Thee to become Thy sons? “… (St Augustine – From the Confessions Book VIII – Chapter IV)  St Simplician, pray for us, Amen.

The first light he saw, indistinctly stroke on the limb of his semi-closed eyes. Consenting him to gaze the fancy colors of life there is.

From that they on, he can’t evoke a second of his memory. Not a single picture of his life’s emergence crosses his wailing faculty. Seems like he was thrown out to somewhere he didn’t even know. Not able to recognize which hands pull him out from the pit of his pre-existence.

After three years all he can remember was looking at the face of a weathered tree that slowly sunk in the cold ground on a rainy day of September. A tree he can’t even be cognizant of. Not eloquent of the pouring tears from his eyes, he plunged into an interrupted stream of sorrow flowing underneath the surface of his consciousness. And all that he knows is something, a part of his individuality, was drifted away in the echo of obliviousness.

Right there on, he felt even more betrayed. Feeling like his life is haunted with contempt. But there’s no one to ask, there’s no one to blame, there’s no one for him. So, he needed to endure selfishly the agony that was buried deep within. �

What do you think will TheConfession™ (HeiKazu) will be like? I mean it's obvious that non of his plans will ever work

Hmmm... good question. To be quite honest, I don't see it happening any time soon. I think Gosho's planning of staying with the status quo with them for some time more. Why do I say this? This last year was all about them, the movie revolved around them, and there was a lot with them in the manga. But now? Now we're back to BO plot stuff, and I think it's gonna take a while. Heiji and Kazuha might not appear as often, or their appearances will be more BO related, like Heiji's in the Kyoto arc. But I think that when it comes to their Romance plot line.. it would most likely be put aside for some time, at least until the waters of the BO plot calm down a little bit. Still, I would give anything for me to be wrong on this. Who knows, maybe Gosho will let them get together very soon? I sure hope so!And I've said this a million times already but- at this point, I think Heiji will end up messing up, getting annoyed and confess by accident or in the heat of the moment because nothing goes as he plans ever. Either way I don't think Kazuha really cares much about the setting of the confession, he could tell her he loves her besides a trashcan and she'd be just as happy- but Heiji is too stubborn and competitive, so... who knows? Maybe he'll end up asking Ran and Conan/Shinichi for help even! Or even Kazuha getting fed up and confessing herself first??? I can see it happening in very different ways! Gosho! Just let my sunshine boy say it!
