One Minute Reflection – 15 August
The Confessions – Book VIII – St Augustine’s Conversion to Christ.   Augustine is deeply impressed by Simplicianus’ story of the conversion to Christ of the famous orator and philosopher, Marius Victorinus.   He is stirred to emulate him but finds himself still enchained by his incontinence and preoccupation with worldly affairs.   He is then visited by a court official, Ponticianus, who tells him and Alypius the stories of the conversion of Anthony and also of two imperial “secret service agents.”   These stories throw him into a violent turmoil, in which his divided will struggles against himself.   He almost succeeds in making the decision for continence but is still held back.   Finally, a child’s song, overheard by chance, sends him to the Bible;  a text from Paul resolves the crisis;  the conversion is a fact.   Alypius also makes his decision and the two inform the rejoicing Monica.
“For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, Do not fear, I will help you.”….Isaiah 41:13
REFLECTION – “And Thou didst put it into my mind and it seemed good in my own sight, to go to Simplicianus, who appeared to me a faithful servant of Thine and Thy grace shone forth in him.   I had also been told that from his youth up he had lived in entire devotion to Thee.   He was already an old man and because of his great age, which he had passed in such a zealous discipleship in Thy way, he appeared to me likely to have gained much wisdom–and, indeed, he had.   From all his experience, I desired him to tell me–setting before him all my agitations–which would be the most fitting way for one who felt as I did to walk in thy way.”…St Augustine (From the Confessions – Book VIII – Chapter 1)
Tumblr media
PRAYER – “Go on, O Lord and act: stir us up and call us back;  inflame us and draw us to Thee;  stir us up and grow sweet to us;  let us now love Thee, let us run to Thee.   Are there not many men … who, out of a deeper pit of darkess,.. return to Thee–who draw near to Thee and are illuminated by that light which gives those who receive it power from Thee to become Thy sons? “… (St Augustine – From the Confessions Book VIII – Chapter IV)  St Simplician, pray for us, Amen.

Honduras 2017
It was definitely a trip in which God began shaping me and building me as a missionary even in this extremely short time that I was allowed to be there He showed me how to overcome myself. When I say that I'm talking about the parts of myself that didn't want to be in Honduras, the parts that told me to go back home and stick to what I know, or to hang in the back and let the others take on the lead roles.
"For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand and says to you,
Do not fear I will help you." Isaiah 41:13
But instead of letting me sit back and watch, God forced me to get up and do things that I'd never done before. Like speaking during the message portion of one of our programs (with less than 10 minutes notice beforehand), or getting to know the nationals (our guides) more than I had gotten to know any of our nationals before. Even better God once again reaffirmed my calling to be a missionary, not because I needed to hear it or because I was confused about my calling, He simply has given me a passion and a heart to work with the people of Latin America specifically people who would of never before been reached with the gospel. I am so excited for this calling He's given me and I can't wait to see where it goes from here.

TEN LIES THAT SOME CHRISTIANS BELIEVE.
1. APPEARANCE DOESN'T MATTER TO GOD :
this is often used by Christians who want to dress indecently. Most especially the ladies. They quote
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
And tell you it’s their heart that matter not their dressing. But they forget that the attitude and lifestyle you live are as a result of your heart. If you dress indecently, it means your heart is indecent. I agree that dressing decently doesn’t make you a Christian, but genuine Christians dress well. Please go home and wear cloth.
2. ONCE YOU BECOME A CHRISTIAN, YOUR PROBLEMS ARE FINISHED; anyone who tells you this is a liar! The Bible clearly tells us that we would have trails and temptation.
James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
But in the midst of our troubles, God promises that He will never leave, nor forsake us. Isaiah41:10-16.
3. GOD NEEDS YOU:.
God doesn’t NEED you! He only WANTS you. You are the one that needs Him. Without you, God can survive! But without God, you CANT survive! You hear some Christians say
“if God doesn’t do this or that for me, I won’t serve Him again or I won’t preach the gospel or pay my tithe”.
In as much as we are all important to God, we should not forget that He first choose us.
John 15:16
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
If we don’t do the work God ask us to do, He can raise even STONES to do them. Whether you serve God or not, HE IS STILL GOD.
4. THE LORD WILL PROVIDE WHATEVER THEY ASK, THE TIME THEY WANT IT; some Christians feel that God MUST grant all their request. God is your Father and not your errand boy. WE pray and allow His will to be done. Some Christians even specify the time of they want their prayers to be answered.
“God I need a husband by June! God I must travel abroad this year! God you must give me this money this week!”
Even as we trust God for our provision, we should also trust His timing. We should learn to pray in childlike humility and believe that His time is the best.
5. HEAVEN HELPS THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVES;
If you can help yourself, why do you need God's help? I agree with this statement in a way that; you have to play your role for God to play His. But some Christians use this statement when they want to do evil or take some illegal shortcuts.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
God has come to help the helpless and not those that don’t totally trust Him.
6. ALL PASTORS AND CHURCH LEADERS ARE PERFECT!
Some Christians believe that their pastors and spiritual leaders ARE PERFECT and immune to sin, temptations and trials, and even attack from the devil. They forget that they are also human beings like them! They set these men and women as a standard for their faith in CHRIST and when those LEADERS make a mistake or fall out of faith, such Christians fall with them. 1 Kings 13:11-33.
The bible urges us in
Hebrews 12:2
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
That we should keep our eyes on Jesus, THE AUTHOR AND FINISHER OF OUR FAITH. Don’t look up to any man! Look at JESUS! Man can fail, but Jesus can never fail.
7. GOING TO CHURCH MAKES YOU A CHRISTIAN.
Going to church DOESN’T make you a Christian. But every GENUINE CHRISTIAN goes to church. Some people just attend church service but do not have a personal relationship with Christ in their Heart. They are not CHRISTIANS! THEY are CHURCH GOERS!
8. YOU CAN KEEP SINNING AND ASKING GOD FOR FORGIVENESS.
Some Christians believe that you can keep sinning on PURPOSE every now and then and keep asking God for forgiveness.
Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
So it tells us that we should not take God’s gift of undeserved grace for granted. When the Holy Spirit convicts you of a wrong, try your best not to repeat it again. When he sees your efforts from the bottom of your heart not to commit sin, HE will help you out. Our willingness to turn away from sin is all God requires.
9. FORNICATING WITH AN ENGAGED PARTNER IS NOT A SIN.
Some Christians believe that, once you’re engaged, sex is allowed! This is totally false. Once you are not yet married, you are fornicating and that is a sin before God.
Colossians 3:5
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
Every marriage should at least be blessed by the parents involved and approved by God himself.
10. YOU CAN MARRY AND UNBELIEVER AND CHANGE HIM OR HER.
The bible clearly warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14 not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. But some Christians will still go ahead and marry an unbeliever claiming they can change them! The only person capable of changing a man is the Holy Spirit Himself. You can’t change anyone! You can only pray for people to change. Don’t try to do the w0ork of the Holy Spirit by disobeying this scripture.
Thanks for reading. I have not come to condemn or judge anyone because I am not perfect. But these are lies that I feel every GENIUE Christians should look out for. May our Lord Jesus Help us in his name.

You are my strength
I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, “Fear not, I will help you. - Isaiah 41:13 Dear Lord, Ang galing mo talaga. You really do speak to me. You know how broken, how hurt, how low I feel now and the first line I read from today's readings is you telling me not to fear, that you promise you will always by my side. Lord, if there's one thing I've learned from you this week, it's that the blessings you have given and things that make me happy can easily be taken away from me. That through happiness and pain, I should never lose sight of you. I'm embarrassed to say that I have strayed from you because of my happiness. I'm embarrassed to say that when the blessings that make me happy were taken away, I turned away. I was hurt. I asked why. Why do I need to get hurt again? As much as I reminded myself that you have a greater plan for me, it was still hard to accept. I'm sorry for my waivering faith. I'm sorry for straying. I pray Lord that this will only strengthen my faith. Lord, I lay all my pain, my doubts, my fears, my brokenness at the foot of your cross. Fill my heart with your love. I cannot do this without you. You are my strength Lord. Amen.
