I made a thing for the @choe_show Several years ago I came across a show called "Thumbs up America" during a really rough time in my life. I wasn't eating, or sleeping causing me to become neurotic and lose over 35 pounds in one month. The only thing I had that kept me going was watching this show, with this amazing guy who gave me a positive outlook on life. He was someone I could relate to. On the streets, defacing property, an all around fuck up with a heart. It was the only joy I got around that time. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd have gotten a chance to speak to him on the phone. Hearing him tell me I'm a good person, and I didn't deserve what was done to me, meant everything. Attending this show means the world to me. I look back on those times, and I'm happy I didn't do anything. I'm happy to be alive. I'm happy to be able to experience this

I'm partial but this is the best thing el Mac has ever painted in his life. Great job brother this mural is deeply inspirational and transcendent 🙏❤️-- some words from #mac_arte "More devotional public work for the great city of Los Angeles. Putting some serious time, soul and energy out there for the people. Striving to create good public art in these strange, troubled times. This is a companion mural to last year's 'La Mère Créatrice' in Montreal, my homage to feminine creative force. It's a tribute to artistic mothers, and their capacity to not only make people but art as well. I am an artist largely thanks to the influence of my mother, who is a great, inspiring artist. My mother-in-law, who passed away recently, though she probably wouldn't have considered herself an artist was as prolific and creative as any. The figure in this mural is based on my reference photos of Jane Choe, the fiery artistic mother of my friend David Choe.
