TCL's #6Degrees of Separation for August 5, 2023.
TCL's #6Degrees of Separation for August 5, 2023. Where I go from #RomanticComedy by Curtis Sittenfeld @csittenfeld to #TheAliceNetwork by @katequinnauthor on my #bookblog now. Thanks KateW https://booksaremyfavouriteandbest.com for my favorite #bookmeme.
From “Romantic Comedy” by Curtis Sittenfeld to “The Alice Network” by Kate Quinn. This is a monthly link-up hosted by KateW at Books Are My Favourite and Best. Each month a book is chosen as a starting point and linked to six other books to form a chain. A book doesn’t need to be connected to all the other books on the list, only to the one next to it in the chain. The rules are: Link the books…

#BookishFlowersMay20 Day 25: Gladiolus - Memorial Day⁣ ⁣ Gladiolus flowers symbolize honor and remembrance which is perfect for Memorial Day! Thank you to all the men and women who have died while serving and protecting all of us. ⁣ ⁣ I didn’t know what to do for today’s prompt, so I decided to pick out some of my favorite historical fiction novels. All of these powerful stories are set during/around one or both of the world wars. Each of these books has profoundly impacted me and also taught me something about this time that I didn’t know. ⁣ ⁣ #memorialday #happymemorialday #thankyou #thankyouforyourservice #historicalfiction #impactfulbooks #salttothesea #betweenshadesofgrey #weweretheluckyones #thealicenetwork #allthelightwecannotsee #thenightingale⁣ #photochallenge #bookishphotochallenge #bookstagramphotochallenge #bookishflowers #talesofanavidreader #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookstagrammer #bookblog #bookreviewer #booknerd #booklover #bookworm #instareads https://www.instagram.com/p/CAn5y2aAwux/?igshid=hprgqtgzyiya

📚 Anyone else reading #TheAliceNetwork by Kate Quinn this month?? It was recently put on my radar thanks to #rwbookclub, which I've just recently started following, and I'm super excited to read it. (I had hoped to start it by now, but maybe I can start it before the month ends.) 🤓 --- Quick summary of the book: . In an enthralling new historical novel from national bestselling author Kate Quinn, two women—a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France during World War I and an unconventional American socialite searching for her cousin in 1947—are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption. . --- I am currently obsessed with books set in this time period, so I can't wait to start reading this. If you're interested in joining along, check out @rwbookclub, which is curated by none other than @reesewitherspoon!! 🤓 --- 📚 What are some of your favorite books set during WWI or WWII?? --- #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramfeature #katequinn #currentlyreading #nowreading

THE ALICE NETWORK KATE QUINN
MY RATING ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PUBLISHER William Morrow/Harper Audio PUBLISHED June 5, 2017 NARRATED Saskia Maarleveld
A fabulously intense and mesmering historical novel about two intelligent and courageous women whose lives intertwine in a search for answers.
SUMMARY It’s 1947 and American Charlie St. Clair finds herself pregnant, unmarried, and transported with her mother to Europe to have her “little problem” taken care of. But Charlie has other plans. She desperately wants to find her beloved cousin and best friend Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war. She has an address of someone who might know something. Charlie breaks free from her mother and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister.
It’s 1915, and Eve Gardiner wants to join the fight against the Germans. She unexpectedly gets her chance when she’s recruited to work as a spy and is sent into enemy-occupied France. She is trained by Alice Dubois, the “Queen of Spies”, who prefers to be called Lili, and manages a vast network of female secret agents. Thirty years later, Eve is haunted by the betrayal that ultimately collapsed the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her dark London house. And then a young pregnant American college girl barges in to her home uttering a name Eve hasn’t heard in decades, and launches them both on a journey to find the truth.
REVIEW THE ALICE NETWORK is one of the most fascinating and compelling books I have read this year. It was impossible to put down and deftly wove fact and fiction together to create a delicious story of intrigue, perseverance and redemption.
The recurring theme of the book is female friendships. We see friendships between Eve and Lili, and Charlie and Rose, and ultimately Eve and Charlie. Each of these special friendships are very unique, but all are based on understanding, compassion and appreciation for one another. Each of these friendships played a meaningful and impacting part of the novel.
KATE QUINN’s character development was exemplary. Both the stuttering Eve and the morning sick Charlie characters were captivating. We see so much change in both of them as the stories unfold. The young determined Eve is very different from the older haunted and broken Eve that we meet in 1947. Naive Charlie matures quickly, growing independent and brave as a result of her experiences with Eve.
Reading about the real-life Alice Network that existed during WWI under Louise de Bettignies was appealing. This was a fascinating story, and she was a truly amazing patriotic woman. I highly recommend THE ALICE NETWORK, particularly if you like historical fiction, drama or books with strong female characters. It would also be a superb pick for any book club, as there are many interesting topics for discussion.
I listened to the audio version of this book and found the narrarator, Saskia Maarleveld to be fabulous. She made the story come alive and the all of the characters real.

🔹BOOK REVIEW🔹 THE ALICE NETWORK BY @katequinn5975 My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 My Review: This plot is set shortly after the Second World War. A young American lady travels to England with her mother to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. Charlotte St. Clair has another agenda than the one planned by her parents. She is determined to find out what happened to her cousin Rose who disappeared four years earlier and presumed dead. Charlotte recruits the help of Evelyn Gardner and her chauffeur, Finn Kilgore. Eve was a spy who was part of The Alice Network during WWI and has knowledge of the whereabouts of Rose. The Alice Network is a true war fact and took its name from Alice Dubois (a.k.a. Louise de Bettignies), a French female spy who spied on the Germans for the British. Some information about her can be found at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louise_de_Bettignies. The story jumps back and forth between Charlotte trying to find her cousin and Eve’s past as a spy. The two timelines collide in the last few chapters. Beautifully written and thought-provoking, this historical novel keeps its reader intrigued and enthralled to the end. 🔹 🔹 #bookstagram #books #bookaddict #bookreviews #bookreview #bookstagrammer #books #booklover #bookworm #bookish #bookaholic #thealicenetwork #katequinn #harpercollins #bookishcanadians https://www.instagram.com/p/BnJ17g2lRrK/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=iecd3a34b4bg

Captivating story of two women searching for closure. A young woman in 1947 looking for her lost cousin at the end of WWII with the help of Eve, who was involved in the #TheAliceNetwork. Eve recounts her harrowing life as a spy in WWI as their stories start to intersect. Intrigue, danger, and a mystery are at the heart of the story as well as a little romance. 5⭐ #wptblkwd #wptblakewood #inpdreads #whattoreadnext #readingbythepool #summerreading #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookreview #historicalfiction #reesewitherspoonbookclub #hellosunshine #readingaddict #readingtime #bookclubbook #bookclubofinstagram #strongwomeninfiction #bookcover #katequinn
