From what I've gathered, the rules are just list your top 9 characters from the year? Right? I will put most of these under a cut to save the timeline.

#1. Paul Strickland

If anyone is surprised by my number one, you must be new here. I am the self declared number one paul stan and he IS the moment. he IS the year. and he IS the number 1 in my heart. I can't wait to bless everyone in the tag with more Paul sets during our collective rewatch in january.

#2. Henry from RWRB

Listen, I've left out the surnames cause who can keep track? especially since the book and movie have different ones lol. but I liked the book when I read it ages ago. I thought the film was a fun book to movie adaptation. and Nicholas Galitzine was the perfect Henry.

#3. The various tea dragons from the Tea Dragon Society series by K. O'Neill.

I read the 2nd book in this series this year: The Tea Dragon Festival. This series is just so lovely and cozy. It has dragons that grow tea and they're fucking adorable. LOOK AT THEM! (pictures are from this post in which K. O'Neill pairs each zodiac sign with a dragon!)

#4. Chidi Anagonye

2023 was the year I finally finished The Good Place. and Chidi... oh Chidi. I want to bundle him up and keep him and his anxiety safe in my pocket. but I also want to sit down and have a book club with him. and talk about how much better almond milk is. I bawled like a baby watching the finale episode.

#5. Mickey Milkovich

2023 was also the year I did a rewatch of Mickey's storyline from Shameless from the beginning and then got caught up on the seasons I never watched. The character growth in Mickey was so wonderful to revisit and Noel Fisher was one of the best things to happen to that show, fight me on it.

#6. Josie from Bottoms

If you haven't seen Bottoms yet... what are you doing with your life? it's a queer classic and it just came out. I don't make the rules its just true. and Ayo was fucking brilliant as Josie.

#7. TK Strand

TK will probably forever be somewhere on this kinda list. he's my fave little blorbo or whatever weird internet term we're using these days. 2023 wasn't my fave year for TK or Tarlos plots, that's for sure... but he was still his adorable, brave, strong self throughout it all.

#8. Anakin Skywalker

The return of my teen obsession: Hayden Christensen, everyone. He was great as Vader in the Obi-Wan show but this year coming back as Anakin... be still my heart. The flashback episode was some of my favorite star wars stuff in ages and wooo boy I loved getting to see live action clone wars Anakin.

#9. Garlic from the Garlic & the Vampire and Garlic & the Witch by Bree Paulson

I mean… look at her! a cute little anthropomorphic clove of garlic with anxiety. What’s not to love about her?

Nice ask week ask! What is your all-time favourite fic (so far) of your own, and are there any favourite fics of others that you have read more than once?

okay, so... this is a terribly hard question to answer, you must know that 😂 at first I thought of combining your ask with the previous one, but after some consideration, the answer will be different - at least partly because I still think that once the Titanic AU is finally done and posted, that one will be my all-time favorite and the one I'm the proudest of. But until then, let's see (and allow me to separate Destiel and Tarlos fics here)

Destiel: what I'm really proud of here is the long AUs I've written - something I'm trying to do more and more in the Tarlos fandom. The two Destiel fics of my own that I re-read the most are When I See You Again - an AU in which Dean is a famous singer, returning to his hometown after ten years... where he reconnects with his first and only true love, Castiel - and Just Your Heart, In Exchange For Mine - a sort-of AU set in the canon world of Supernatural, only that Dean's retired and Cas is a witch that gets cursed... into a cute little black cat.

Tarlos: You know, funny enough, this was harder for me to narrow down 😂 maybe because they're more recent and I still actively read Tarlos. I've narrowed it down to three, hope that's okay for you. So we have:

You’re my Haven of Peace in a Stormy Sea - a 7+1 fic of TK falling asleep on Carlos during their relationship. I just love the development of their relationship shown during this fic and also how it is absolutely canon that TK always falls asleep on Carlos 🥰

Valentine’s Match - the baseball fic in which I use terrible baseball puns and just let them flirt the entire time 😂

Of Lizards, Love & Laundry - a 7+2 fic of Carlos accepting his fate as a Lizard Papa and coming to love his scaly son... and you know, I think if you forced me to pick just one fic, I think it would be this one. There's just something so soft and cute about this journey. And hey, the ART is simply amazing, I'm still so stunned every time I see it 🥰

And there we have it - though tbh, I'm still not sure this is an accurate list. I bet if you asked me this question again tomorrow, I would pick other fics, simply going by what I would love to re-read then 😅

As for re-reading fics from other authors, ahh, that question is even harder. I actually don't re-read fics as often as I made it sound above, for the sole reason that I'm a terribly slow reader and there's always so much new content, and I don't want to miss out on new fics. There are three, maybe four longer fics I've read a second time, but they're either Destiel or from the Harry Potter fandom. As for the Tarlos fandom, yes, I've re-read some shorter fics, fluffy ones mostly, but I don't have "that one comfort fic I come back to every few months". At least, not yet... maybe one day I will 🥰

The fact that fans still discount TK's role in the Tarlos relationship shouldn't be surprising, but it is.

They can't accept that TK loves Carlos just as much as Carlos loves him - in so many people's minds - only Carlos' love, words, and actions matter - at least the positive ones - they just ignore or explain & excuse away the negative words and actions. While want to plan a witch hunt for everything TK does or says (positive or negative).

They can't acknowledge it - just make a joke out of it.

When fans say anything critical of Carlos (or even Owen) - the hate is endless. I just don't get it.

What about the relationship are these supposed tarlos shippers shipping if they only actually like one part of it?

Tarlos Moves to Midnight

TK becomes a sort of medic to the supernaturals

Carlos is still a cop and works to keep the police out of the supernatural business

TK or Carlos (or both) are some sort of supernatural being, hence the move to Midnight

A rewrite of the show if TK and Carlos replaced Joe and Chuey as the angel and demon who owned the combo Tattoo Parlor / Nail Salon

Desperate to find answers about what happened to Gabriel, Carlos goes to a curandero who advises him to seek out a medium that lives in Midnight (were supernatural baddies involved in his father's death?)

Midnight, Texas meets the 126:

scrap the Midnight characters entirely. The 126 are all the different supernaturals who live in Midnight.

Hi! Thank you so much for this- definitely not sth I would have thought to write, but I actually had so much fun writing it!

"This is your first full moon," he hissed at the man as he jogged to catch up to him, falling into step beside him easily, "you can't keep ignoring this, or me, Strand- it's happening, whether you like it or not, and you ignoring it isn't going to make it go away, it just makes you dangerous."

"Leave me alone," TK hissed, jabbing a finger in his chest, eyes flashing a dangerous yellow, "I don't want this, and I don't ant your help- I'll be fine on my own."

"You're gonna get someone killed," he called out to him, and TK froze with his hand on the car door handle, "if that's something you can live with, then by all means, go ahead and leave, but if it's not, then please come with me- let me help you."

TK let his forehead fall on the roof of the car, hands tightening on his keys. Carlos could hear the frantic beat of his heart, the creak of the metal keys, the painting breaths.

"TK?"

"Okay," he looked him in the eye, green eyes flecked with gold and hiding a well of pain and fear met Carlos', "okay, I'll come with you."

Give me a pairing and an AU setting and I'll write a three sentence fic.

Do you write supernatural based fics? Like a Tarlos fic where TK is a powerful amplifier for witches or something like it and is coveted by everyone. But after having been betrayed by Alex he rebuffs anyone who shows an interest seeing them as having an agenda. He knows of Carlos bc Carlos is THAT witch. More powerful than anyone TK's met, caring and protective of those who can't protect themselves. Still TK is cautious. He starts disguising himself as a truly unfortunate looking cat. Just mangy as hell. The witches that come round trying to seduce the gorgeous powerful TK to their side with smarmy smiles and truly selfish desires snub the cat, try to hurt it not realizing its TK. Carlos comes around, not for TK, befriends the cat. Meets TK, love at first sight etc, you know that canon shit, confuzzled about never seeing the cat and TK at the same time, realizes the truth when he is attacked while protecting the cat and TK transforms back amplifying Carlos' powers and being a badass team. HEA activated

Hear me out:

Backstory: Young Owen tricks the old man and goes beyond the wall. He meets this beautiful and mysterious girl (aka TKs future mom aka Prima) and they go for a few rounds of horizontal tango...he returns home and 9 months later he gets a basket with the screaming reminder that horizontal tango has nothing to do with actual dancing...there's also a babylonian candle and a letter in the basket but lets focus on the baby.

You might have guessed that TK is the baby. We could put some extra cherries on top and establish that TKs mom only revealed his initials and not the full name. (#therewasaletter)

Fast forward 25 years: TK is a grown up slightly akward, cute-nerdy and mostly confused guy. The thing he is not confused about? His love for Alex.

Alex is an oportunistic duche and not good enough for our boy...exactly like in canon. But TK proposes to him and Alex tells him that he has been cheating on him and that he intends to marry that other guy. But TK is not giving up and asks him to wait, because he is going to get him a star. And Alex the Douche accepts the proposal because he wants his own star. Its like Victoria and Tristan all over again.

TK tries to trick the old man (like Owen), fails, goes and talks to his father, Owen tells him about his mom and shows him the letter + the candle. TK does this whole traveling by candlelight thing and smashes into one innocently confused and gorgeous Carlos. (The "Mom?" "I'm not your Mother!" exchange cracks me up every time)

What TK didn't know is that the star he was looking for isn't a rock. Its a human...or not human exactly but Carlos is the star. (Confused? Watch the movie! ;)

So, the whole stupidity of gifting a human instead of a star happens. And how long are this things allowed to be? I'm so sorry.

I'm not sure who the witches are going to be. Probalby Billy and whoever else? TKs uncles are going to die, obviously. Do we need names? Lets stay with the MovieOGs aka Primus, Secundus, Tercius, Quartius, Quintus, Sextus, Septimus?

Moving on

TK is trying to get Carlos to the wall and to Alex. But the witches and TKs brothers are looking for the star aka Carlos because they want to either eat his heart or get the diamond Carlos is carrying. (Should I get into that part of the story? I feel like this is only going to make sense if you've already watched the movie)

Things happen and they land on a flying, lightning catching ship. Who's on the ship? The rest of the firefam! With Captain Judson Ryder, who's a feared and cruel captain, his wife Grace Ryder who is the smartest of everyone (but only behind the scenes) Marjan Marwani, a fearless fighter who loves to compete with Paul Strickland, a badass pirate who knows where to find the best lightning bolts and is always trying to outsmart Marjan and last but not least, Mateo Chavez, who knows everything about storms, lightning bolts and magic currencies.

TK and Carlos stay on the ship for a while and become part of the family. Marjan shows TK how to women man up and how to fight. Paul tries to get some sense into TK (Tarlos is his OTP) and Mateo teaches Carlos all about humanity and stories. They discover that Judd is not the horrible and feared captain everyone says he is, because he's, in fact, a teddy bear who listens to his wife like he is supposed to be.

Carlos is completely in love with TK by now.

TK is vacationing somewhere near denial but tries to keep track of the journey. Eventually, Carlos realizes that he's only got a few days left to make TK realize that Alex is a douche and that he deserves better.

And they do have cute moments together. With handholding and some intense eyefucking staring. Very cute.

They end up having sex and TK finally figures out that he's been in love with Carlos the whole time. But he made a promise to Alex and he intends to keep it. Aka he leaves a sleeping and in love Carlos and runs to Alex.

A few plotpoints happen (TK notices that Carlos isn't supposed to cross the wall, Carlos wakes up and is heartbroken. This leads him to look for TK, aka almost crossing the wall. But he's kidnapped by one of the evil witches and TK witnesses said kidnapping) and TK fights/kills the evil witches, finds his real mother, who reveals that he's the crown prince -soon to be king- and saves Carlos.

There is a Tarlos wedding.

They're immortal kings who decide to become stars 🌟🌟☄

The movie is pure gold. But wtf and holy hell! It sounds insane if you try to summarize the plot. What even is this movie?! Also: I can do better. I'm working on another ~slightly more auish~ StardustAU. Looking for my creativity...she got lost when I was like 12 years old. Anyhow. Thoughts? Opinions?
