We’re actually going to get to enjoy Auburn Tiger football today.

Later on this morning (or afternoon if you’re not in God’s time zone), Auburn opens up year number eight of the Gus Malzahn era with the weirdest situation that anyone could’ve ever imagined. With the COVID-19 storyline dominating literally everything since early March, we’ve been devoid of Tiger athletics until last Friday when women’s soccer came back into the fold. After Auburn took down Tennessee in the last regular season basketball game, everything was canceled. No conference tournaments, no NCAA Tournament, and then baseball got canceled. Then spring football got canceled. Then we got into June without really knowing what was going to happen. Then the Big Ten and PAC-12 decided that they wouldn’t risk everyone’s safety.

The SEC didn’t flinch. It was still time to play. If we were welcoming kids back to campus and having football teams practice, then playing actual games wouldn’t pose any higher threat than normal life at this point. We kept on course, only delaying the start of the regular season three weeks and limiting games to SEC play only. That way, a cohesive testing and quarantine policy would be manageable throughout the entire conference.

Finally, it all came down to the schedule release. With no non-con matchups, we would have to hit spin cycle and find the right mix so that each SEC team can play 10 conference games. Some things stayed the same — for instance, Alabama the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Others didn’t. Auburn gets to take on Georgia in Week 2, so that’ll be a trip. But there’s business to attend to first.

Auburn gets to open the weirdest year in recorded history against Kentucky later today. This won’t be easy, but then again, what kind of fun is easy?

SERIES HISTORY: Auburn leads 26-6-1 all-time (Kentucky has only one victory in the series — 2009 — since 1966).

LAST MEETING: Auburn won 30-27 in Lexington back in 2015, with Peyton Barber scoring twice and Ricardo Louis recording 154 receiving yards.

2019 SEASON: Auburn finished 2019 at 9-4, with key wins over Alabama, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Kentucky recorded an 8-5 mark, with wins over Missouri, Louisville, and Virginia Tech.

Auburn: QB Bo Nix (2,542 yards; 57.6%; 16 TDs/6INTs); WR Seth Williams (59 catches; 830 yards; 8 TDs); WR Anthony Schwartz (41 catches, 440 yards, 1 TD); WR Eli Stove (37 catches; 321 yards; 3 TDs); LB K.J. KEYS FOR AUBURN

Find some success up front early. Last year against Oregon, Auburn took quite some time to wake up and the Ducks pushed the Tigers around on both sides of the ball. In particular, the Auburn defensive line, even with Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson, got shoved around for the better part of a half. Kentucky’s got a similarly-skilled line, and they can definitely control the line of scrimmage to gain confidence early on. Offensively, the Tigers have some real talent (albeit young) in the backfield. We’re all itching to see who starts to get the majority of the carries in true Gus style, but maybe we see Shaun Shivers, Tank Bigsby, D.J. Williams, and Mark Antony Richards split about 40 carries. If Auburn can run the ball with its bruisers on the offensive line, while they loosen up the passing game, it might help guys like Brodarious Hamm get more comfortable in pass protection. However, Kentucky will be expecting that, so...

Bo Nix needs to show what he’s learned from Chad Morris in the offseason. Let’s make no bones about it, Chad Morris’ Arkansas tenure isn’t indicative of his offensive prowess. The man is largely responsible for Dabo’s Clemson resurgence, and if Bo Nix can come close to the numbers that Tajh Boyd put up, then we’re in for a special year. Nix was at his best when he didn’t seem to have to think about what he was doing, and just running the offense on instinct. See the Mississippi State game and largely the Iron Bowl. He’s got the receivers to make some real noise this year, and if they stay healthy, I’m confident that he’ll break Dameyune Craig’s single season passing record. Oh, and let him run too. He’s faster than you think.

Don’t let Kentucky dictate anything. The Wildcats want to control the clock. Even when Terry Wilson was healthy, the Cats weren’t exactly the wildest offense you were going to see. They were a run-heavy squad, and they should’ve been with the line they have. Three redshirt seniors up front mean that they’ll come in and try to budge the Auburn front seven. All the Tigers need to do is occupy linemen up front and let the best linebacking corps in the SEC roam and make plays. Britt, McClain, and Owen Pappoe should be able to track down any UK tailback, and the passing game shouldn’t be too much of a threat for an Auburn team breaking in a couple new secondary players.

STRESS-O-METER:

Unfortunately, I personally have no feeling on how much this game is going to make me sweat. I’m just excited to see us play again, but I know the first time we run the same play on three straight downs and punt I’ll turn to the dark liquor. There’s no doubt that this will be sloppy since neither team has had a full offseason of practice.

Seriously, though, Kentucky’s not a bad team. They didn’t really beat anyone of consequence last year, and Auburn won’t be caught unaware by their talent with this being the first game. It may just take a little bit longer than some of us like to get comfortable (and I’m defining comfortable as a lead with 0:00 on the clock).

Still, football is back. It’s back, y’all. War Eagle.

Autumnal Asks - Nasir

I saw at least three people reblog this post on my dash, and since I'm feeling all festive I decided to join in on the holiday cheer with my fave sim, Nasir ibn Hema! <3

lantern - how did you meet your best friend? What were your first impressions of each other?

Nasir, Pietros, and Naevia were all classmates in med school. They got paired up together for a lab project, and immediately hit it off. Naevia’s like a big sister, as she’s so sweet and nurturing to the boys who never had a strong female presence in their lives. Pietros and Nasir like playing harmless pranks and being naughty, urging prep-schoolgirl Naevia to loosen up a bit. The three of them feel like long lost siblings, and they love each other dearly.

crow - which school subject do you wish you had an aptitude for? / cobweb - (if you’ve graduated) do you miss high school?

Nasir was actually a brilliant student -- when he wasn’t cutting class to smoke weed on the rooftop. His entire family pushed him from an early age to go into medicine, since that was where the money and prestige was. But Nasir’s always loved arts & crafts; creating things with his hands and expressing himself artistically.

maple - is there a hobby/skill you’ve always wanted to try but never did?

Basketball. (Lmfao!) But alas, the Little Man’s such a smol bean~! :3

harvest - what fictional character do you most identify with? Why? / jack-o-lantern - if you could look like any celebrity, who would you choose?

Gods, there’s this precious little Syrian on some show Nasir saw once; I swear he looks just like him.... :P

I love Pana in a man-bun.

fireside - if you had your dream wardrobe, what would it look like?

Nasir’s pretty much a Hot Topic reject, tbh. He likes the grunge/punk styles, and dresses like a little thuglet. Growing up on the streets, he needed a way to look tougher and more intimidating, when people would underestimate him because of his height and his cute face.

cocoa - if you could have any type of hair, what colour/cut would you have?

If he wasn’t so vain about his hair (and if Agron hadn’t threatened jokingly of course to dump him if he ever cut it), Nasir would totally rock a buzzcut!

cranberry - what��s one physical feature that you get complimented on?

Nasir’s been growing his hair out since childhood, as Nazeem once told him that his hair was very soft and pretty. By growing it, he feels closer to his brother. (Plus it doesn’t hurt that he looks so darn good with it!)

fog - how well do you think you’d do in a zombie apocalypse scenario?

Oh god. >_> Well, for any of you who remember that In the Flesh inspired Zombie Apocalypse AU I never finished, it left off with Nasir meeting the mysterious Agent Laeta, who had information on his MIA military brother, Nazeem. She took him to her HQ in Twinbrook/Nightmare Valley (one of the quarantined areas where The Risings first devastated the area), but Nasir was perfectly safe with the military escort she had.

amber - share an unpopular opinion that you may have.

Nasir thinks the government should totally legalize weed! He’s tired of stealing from Gannicus’ stash.

orchard - share one thing that you’d like to happen this autumn.

Nasir is really looking forward to the Halloween Oktoberfest party Uncle Lugo is throwing! ^0^ He got his costume ready months ago. He can’t wait to see Agron’s face when he sees it~~! ;)

spice - have you ever encountered a house that you believed to be haunted?

Thinking won’t be necessary -- that mofo was DEFINITELY haunted.

cider - a food that you disliked as a child but now enjoy?

Western food. Growing up in a traditional Al Simharan family, Nasir had never had things like pizza and cheeseburgers. It was only after Nazeem moved them to Starlit Shores that Nasir was introduced to the world of fast food. Mmmm...diabetus. :P

quilt - how do you take your tea (or coffee)?

Nasir loves Turkish Coffee with biscuits and a spot of milk!

bonfire - describe your dream house.

Modern!Nasir’s been living in a gorgeous apartment Nazeem picked out for them. (I first show it off in this post. It was made by @pralinesims, and I just added a few changes here and there.) GoatFarm!AU Nasir has been living in the Rhineland with Agron and his family at the Zeigenfarm Homestead.

moonlit - are you a neat or messy person? Is your room / house orderly?

Nasir is a wee bit of a neat freak. He likes pretty things, and always keep his stuff kept nice and smelling good.

cinnamon - if you had to live in a time period different than the present, which would you choose and where?

Nazeem used to tuck Nasir in with stories from 1001 Nights. Nasir loved the tales of adventure and magic, and his favorite cartoon was Disney’s Aladdin. He’d love to go back in time and see what Al Simhara was like thousands of years ago.

pumpkin - do you think that humans are inherently good or bad?

Nasir grew used to expecting the absolute least from others, especially when it came to him. He was exposed to real scum growing up. It was only after gaining the friendship of Pietros and Naevia, and then finding love with Agron, and being welcomed/adopted by all of their friends and family, that Nasir started believing in the goodness of mankind.

(I will never get over Uncle Lugo picking Nasir up. <3 )

flannel - have you ever gone on a bad date?

Nasir never really dated before Agron, just mostly had hook ups. But his earliest dates with Agron were...complicated, to say the least. (Scroll down to “Who remembers things / anniversaries.”)

maize - the weirdest encounter you’ve had with a stranger on the street.

Nasir was scouted by so many gay porn agents in Starlit Shores. He’s got that dirty twink charm about him, that certainly helped during his brief and lurid career as a gogo dancer before getting into med school.

ghost - is there someone that you miss having in your life?

Nasir barely remembers his parents enough to deeply miss them. It’s his big brother Nazeem that Nasir really longs for. Mostly Nasir wishes he could apologize, for giving his brother such a hard time when he was busy being young and dumb, while Nazeem was just struggling to do the best he could to take care of them. Nasir resented Nazeem for always being gone (working odd jobs and crazy shifts just to keep the lights on), and then for joining the military -- both times leaving Nasir to pretty much fend for himself. But now he understands that Nazeem just wanted the best for his baby brother.

(I’m just spamming y’all with unreleased pics/spoilers from the Zombie AU chapters I never finished. Sorry for never following through with anything. U_U)

frost - if you could give some advice to your younger self, what would you say?

One of Nasir’s favorite songs is P!nk’s Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self. That’s pretty much exactly what he would say. Nasir had a very hard childhood, as he and his older brother Nazeem were orphaned during the political turmoil in Al Simhara. The barely 18 Nazeem tried raising little Nasir on his own, but Nasir was left alone a lot and hung with the wrong crowds; getting into trouble. Angry and rebellious, Nasir could have done well with an uplifting song like P!nk’s while growing up.

I really want to like this show for what it is. Really, I do.

We had the moral drama of the Tardigrade, but how am I supposed to like Saru when he literally throws his morals completely out the window??? “I was just following orders” is never a reason to harm another being and really, the show brushed over the whole ethical issue completely by just having the characters make individual choices to serve the plot, rather than actually discuss the issue like they would in any other Star Trek series

and Lorca’s entire backstory just makes him even more shady and immoral ffs

and I am just really really not on board with how the characters do complete 180s for the sake of the plot and drama - Saru doesn’t trust Michael, but then he does, flip. flop. flip. flop.

and oh boy am I really, really, really not on board for ‘characters explain their motivations and feelings in a paragraph of exposition’ with 0 emotion behind any of it. it makes it feel so contrived.

I still just don’t feel like I care about any of the characters at all, none of them feel the smallest bit real, there’s something so unnatural and unrealistic about their dialogue and their actions. I think the only reason I found the episode slightly more bearable than others is because they finally had enough plot to keep things moving along without me getting bored.

also, the weirdest part is how small the show feels. the Discovery feels empty, the starbase scene we didn’t know or care about any of the other Admirals, even the Klingon prison ship didn’t feel like it had anything other than that one cell (and corridor, and torture chamber) - they’re so tightly focused on the few characters we know that it just feels like everyone else is cardboard cutouts in the background. it doesn’t FEEL like there’s a war going on. all this money on set design and special effects and whatever and the show somehow feels tiny?

Kevin-Prince Boateng admits to buying three cars in one day

Kevin-Prince Boateng — you might see him in a Lambo.

Kevin-Prince Boateng has revealed he once bought three cars in one day during his largely ill-fated stint at Tottenham early in his career. The Ghana international endured two turbulent seasons at White Hart Lane which culminated in him being sold on to Portsmouth at a loss in 2009.

Looking back, Boateng admits that his behaviour was “idiotic” but that it was a result of him being a lonely young footballer with large amounts of disposable income and lots of free time to spend it as he pleased.

“I was an idiot. I didn’t treat football as a job,” the 32-year-old told La Repubblica. “I had talent, but I trained the bare minimum, an hour on the field. I was the last to arrive and the first to leave. I’d be out with friends.

these are actually hella fucking cute y’all

I’m answering all of these because as previously stated I have a real thing for filling stuff out. I like being asked questions it’s fun, keeps my brain workin’ :D

1: when you have cereal, do you have more milk than cereal or more cereal than milk? More milk. And I never drink it at the end. I can’t, I’ll get sick. I can’t drink milk, and if I have cereal too often I’ll get sick. But it’s just not right if there isn’t lots of milk D’: 2: do you like the feeling of cold air on your cheeks on a wintery day? NOOOOOOOOOOO DDDDD: 3: what random objects do you use to bookmark your books? Anything? I think there’s a Mythology book around here somewhere with a peanut M&M’s wrapper in it.

4: how do you take your coffee/tea? I don’t put anything in tea, and I’ll drink black coffee, but sometimes I put creamer in it. If it’s available. I like peppermint mocha best yum :D

5: are you self-conscious of your smile? Nope! I think it’s pretty nice, actually. It’s one ofthe few things I actually like about myself lol. I hate my body and my acne but I think my nose, eyes, and smile are decent. I had braces so my teeth are straight. I didn’t wear my top retainer though so there’s a small gap, but it doesn’t bother me. Except when I eat apples. The skin always gets stuck >:( My teeth could be whiter, and they’re small and square looking, but I think my smile is alright.

6: do you keep plants? No, but I want to. I just can’t keep up with that stuff. And my room faces a very shaded yard so sunlight really doesn’t come in.

7: do you name your plants? I totally would! 8: what artistic medium do you use to express your feelings? I prefer to draw with pencil/colored pencil, charcoal, and I’m trying to use inking pens. I suck at painting lol. I did just get a tablet, though, and Autodesk Sketchbook. So that’s been fun to play with. 9: do you like singing/humming to yourself? Oh yeah. I would love to be able to sing really well. So far I can do a decent Marilyn Monroe impression lol. My favorite thing to sing along to is No Doubt. I love Gwen’s voice. It’s a good exercise too, all the vibrato and crazy patterns she does. I also like to sing Heart, too. My boyfriend says I sound pretty good, but I still won’t let anyone else hear me lol. Even though he’s a musician and probably knows what he’s talking about, I still don’t think it’s that great haha 10: do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach? Yes.

11: what’s an inner joke you have with your friends? Hmm I can’t think of any that don’t require a long explanation lol. Well okay, how about this. I didn’t ever really drink until I turned 21 (almost exactly a year ago, January 17!), and then when we’d hag out with friends and I’d get drunk, I’d start going up to people whispering “Hey. I’ve never been drunk before” in their ear lol. Like ever time it happened (which wasn’t all that much, I’m still not a huge drinker). It got to the point that now if I drink, everyone goes “Watch out for Robyn, she’s getting drunk for the first time!”

12: what’s your favorite planet? Uranus ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Hehe uhm Jupiter, because it’s full of gas, like me? I’ve honestly never really thought about this. I think Neptune is the prettiest, and I like the idea that humans may be able to live on Mars. ~Sailor Pluto is my favorite Sailor Scout. :D

14: if you were to live with your best friend in an old flat in a big city, what would it look like? A mess hahahahahahahahahaaha. She has three cats and I have a dog. We both have depression, anxiety, BPD, OCD, and ADHD. (fun fact, our diagnoses are identical. We both have PTSD as well). But we love doing crafts and not cleaning our rooms, so I imagine there would be glitter, scrap fabric, pencil shavings, and wadded up paper everywhere. Among the pet hair, of course! 15: go google a weird space fact and tell us what it is! 99% of the solar system’s mass is the sun! (shit!) 16: what’s your favorite pasta dish? S P A G H E T T I

17: what color do you really want to dye your hair? Uhm well I’ve literally had every color lol. But right now, I’m having a lot of trouble getting red to stick to the lengths, it keeps fading to brown immediately. My hair is very damaged so it’s not too cooperative at this point :/

18: tell us about something dumb/funny you did that has since gone down in history between you and your friends and is always brought up. Uhm ok so I have IBS pretty bad, right? My friends and I went to Denny’s one night. We came back to one friend’s house, and I needed to fart (Sorry, this is gonna be gross lol). So as my friend Nick was coming up the stairs, I stuck my butt out and farted on his chest area. Only I didn’t fart. I pooped on him. HAHA and now everyone laughs at me because I shit on the bass player! The best part was I ran to the bathroom and I had my boyfriend get my spare undies from the car (gotta have those when you got that Irritable Bowel), and when I went back downstairs, Nick had no idea what had happened lololololol 19: do you keep a journal? what do you write/draw/ in it? Nopeee 20: what’s your favorite eye color? I mean as far as what I find attractive, brown. Big brown eyes. On guys and girls. But especially guys. Girls with light eyes can still be cute but I think dark eyed men are just the best <3 That’s not to say there aren’t also some attractive men with light eyes (points to Bradley Cooper, Chris Hemsworth, Conrad Veidt, J o n a t h a n J o e s t a r). 21: talk about your favorite bag, the one that’s been to hell and back with you and that you love to pieces. My smiley backpack! I just started really using it about a year ago, but I got it when I was like 3. so it’s around 19 years old. I actually just ripped one of the straps out partially last night, and I gotta sew it (thanks for the reminder!). It’s about a foot in diameter, and it’s just a giant yellow circle with a simple black smile and eyes and two straps. 22: are you a morning person? If by morning person you mean I stay up all night and am awake still when morning comes. Though I was up from Thursday evening to last night with no sleep, so I slept all last night and have been up since 6:30 this morning. 23: what’s your favorite thing to do on lazy days where you have 0 obligations? Well since I’m pathetic and I don’t have a job and the Kent State University won’t let me have Financial Aid (due to dropping my classes last semester because of HEALTH ISSUES, wtf), every day is like that. I hate it, actually. I do nothing but sleep. I stare at my computer for hours, scroll tumblr and Facebook, get out drawing supplies and then stare at the paper and cry, lay in bed and cry, cry and cry ;u; 24: is there someone out there you would trust with every single one of your secrets? My boyfriend, Mr. Alexander Tortorella. He’s been one of my best friends since 2010, and my boyfriend for a little over 2 years. Also my two closest friends, Taylor, who I’ve been best buds with for over ten years (we even got tattoos together) and my friend Ryanne who I mentioned before (the one with all the problems like me lol). 25: what’s the weirdest place you’ve ever broken into? No where, I’ve never broken into anyplace. Other than my car once because I locked the keys in it lol. 26: what are the shoes you’ve had for forever and wear with every single outfit? I actually have these flat slip on clogs that have like a brown sweater fabric that I got in 2006. I wear them pretty much all fall/winter if I’m just running to the store or to someone’s house. If there’s no snow, of course lol. I also have Converse I got in 2007 that have the British flag on them, and The Who’s logo on the tongue. there’s smiley faces drawn on the rubber at the toe, and along the side banding one one of them are lyrics to “What a Catch Donnie” by Fall Out Boy.

27: what’s your favorite bubblegum flavor? I love regular bubblegum’s taste but it doesn’t last long enough to bother. 28: sunrise or sunset? Sunset 29: what’s something really cute that one of your friends does and is totally endearing? Uhh…? My friends aren’t really “cute” people hahahahaha. I mean Taylor has called me “Bobert” for years and that’s funny lol 30: think of it: have you ever been truly scared? Yeah this one time when I was little I floated too far on a raft in Lake Erie and thought I was gonna end up in dying lol. I mean compared to other things that have happened in my life that really isn’t anything too bad, but the fear I felt at the time was so immense. 31: what is your opinion of socks? do you like wearing weird socks? do you sleep with socks? do you confine yourself to white sock hell? really, just talk about socks. I love socks! Cool socks. I’ve got Marvel hero socks, whale socks, Star Wars socks, Sailor Moon socks, Winnie the Pooh sicks, sailboat socks, and funky pattern socks. I hate sleeping in socks though. I also have a collection of black dress socks from marching band haha 32: tell us a story of something that happened to you after 3AM when you were with friends. I got naked and chased a friend down the street when I was 17. That was my one experience being drunk before I was 21 lol 33: what’s your fave pastry? Friggin Oreo Poptarts. They count. 34: tell us about the stuffed animal you kept as a kid. what is it called? what does it look like? do you still keep it? Little Pooh! And Big Pooh! I have a like 2 and a half foot sitting Pooh Bear and a small one. I dragged them both everywhere when I was little. I still slept with the small one until I was like 16. But it’s so worn and falling apart, I needed to switch to a larger version to cuddle lol. Now I just kinda cuddle whatever teddy bear or stuffed animal I grab haha 35: do you like stationary and pretty pens and so on? do you use them often? Yes, but I don’t really have them. I do have some super cool Norman Rockwell notecards. And I have rainbow pens I use to color coordinate notes. I’’l freaking rip a page out and re-write everything if i mess up. 36: which band’s sound would fit your mood right now? Well I’m currently listening to “Fly” by Sugar Ray and I’d say that’s doin’ it pretty well :D 37: do you like keeping your room messy or clean? I have only seen Beetlejuice of those (I knowwww), and I like it, but the heavy late 80′s asthetic creeps me out a bit. My friend Nick did a project for school (he’s a music production major) where he mixed the original tracks differently, and he made the bass and snare more prevalent and now the original sounds empty to me hahaha 58: who’s the wine mom and who’s the vodka aunt in your group of friends? why? Lol what??? I mean I drink wine more than anything, but I probably drink more vodka than anyone else too lol. Most of them just smoke that reefer to be honest. The idea that there is a decibel so low that if you hear it, you’ll poop yourself! They proved it to be false on Mythbusters, though. 60: do you like poetry? what are some of your faves? I used to write poetry a lot. I actually was published in a national anthology of selected student poets in 9th grade. I have trouble being creative anymore, though. I like Thoreau and Walt Whitman. We studied them in 11th grade. 61: what’s the stupidest gift you’ve ever given? the stupidest one you’ve ever received? I’ve never really given a gag gift. Though one time I wrapped a robe I got my sister in a series of boxes and duct tape just to mess with her :D I wouldn’t say I’ve ever received anything “stupid”. 62: do you drink juice in the morning? which kind? Nope. I like apple juice, though. Orange juice makes me sick. Acid reflux issues. 63: are you fussy about your books and music? do you keep them meticulously organized or kinda leave them be? I know somehow that would make it so I never reconnect with Alex, or I end up dating someone I wasn’t happy with, or what if somehow I got in a car wreck and died as a result of something stupid? And I don’t want to see the future. What happens happens and I don’t want to live in anticipation.

“Great Society Primary: Week Five Results”

The announcement of the latest very unscientific results from the nightly poll conducted in the lobby of Lincoln Center, is a marketing gimmick for “The Great Society” that strikes me as at best useless, and maybe even harmful, although I couldn’t say exactly why.

But it is surely nowhere near as damaging as the theatrics required in our electoral politics, which has its most vivid expression in events like tonight’s third televised 2020 Presidential Democratic debate.

Later this week, The Broadway Advocacy Coalition will also mix politics and theater, it hopes more fruitfully, in an event it is calling Theater of Change Forum: Public Launch, which will combine performances with discussions on how to “merge the areas of storytelling and advocacy into an integrated practice.” Performers and speakers will include:Ariana Afsar (Hamilton), Britton Smith (Be More Chill), Ben Wexler (Jonathan Larson Award winner), Mikayla Bartholomew and Columbia Law School professor Elora Mukherjee.

Then on November 8 at Kraine’s Theater, David Lawson will reprise his “The 2020 Book Report,” for which he read all the candidates’ political memoirs.

Slave Play

When I saw “Slave Play” Off-Broadway last December, it felt like the work of a novice playwright – promising, provocative, and well produced, but too derivative, too long, too full of ideas that were not fully or clearly developed. It needed work….Much to my surprise, I liked it less on Broadway.

It would be unfair to sum up “Slave Play” as soft-core S&M porn followed by pseudo psychological insights about race in America – unfair because it’s other things as well….

Can an underemployed middle-aged jerk be a babe magnet? That’s a question theatergoers are likely to ask about Wheeler, the central character in Linda Vista, Tracy Letts’ latest play on Broadway. Some women will surely ask the question rhetorically and in disgust; some men, full of hope.

Indeed, your ability to get past that question – and, more generally, your willingness to entertain yet another middle-aged white guy comedy – is a gauge of how much you will appreciate this showcase for some impressive acting and very funny writing.

The Wrong Man

“The Wrong Man,” a sung-through musical starring the spectacular Joshua Henry, may remind people of “Hamilton” in its catchy rap-inflected eclectic score and jerky hip hop choreography, but it is nearly the anti-“Hamilton” in its lack of real-world resonance.

Now, I don’t need a show to be socially conscious or rooted in history in order to enjoy it. But if you’re going to enlist a black actor to portray a man framed for murder, it seems like a missed opportunity that the creative team is presenting a story that has no more relevance than a folk tale.

Preview: Notes on My Mother’s Decline

On some nights, “Notes on My Mother’s Decline” feels as much like a memorial service as a show. Although the two characters in Andy Bragen’s play are not named, the writer makes it clear that they are based on himself and his late mother, Eugenia M. Bragen. For more than half a century, Tracy Bragen, as everyone called her, lived just down the block from the Fourth Street Theatre, where Notes on My Mother’s Decline is currently running. At the performance I attended, two colleagues of hers from Baruch College, where she taught English for some 40 years, were in the audience. “The real Tracy was a real Southern belle, with a heavy Southern drawl,” one of them told me.

MJ (renamed from Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough) “inspired by the life of Michael Jackson” will open Aug 13, 2020 at the Neil Simon Theater. Book is by Lynn Nottage, but it’s co-produced by the Michael Jackson Estate

But will you still have the freedom to write about the weird stuff you love? Will your editors let you cover Clubbed Thumb and the Brick and whatever international piece comes to Montclair Peak Performances, etc.? I don’t know. The editor I’ll be reporting to is Chris Bonanos, and he has very catholic taste. Also I don’t hide those interests—I’ve never put that light under a bushel. Certainly if I start to cram in shows that take place in actual working sewers that are Beckett plays spoken backwards, I won’t be surprised if my editors are leery. But in the conversations I’ve had with them so far, they sounded very excited by the idea that dance is a part of theatre, and performance art, and drag. The silos don’t need to stay closed. My impression from them is, you know, they cover New York, including the weirdest and glitziest and chintziest things. They have a Cheap Eats issue, and “cheap seats” is not that far from that.

It strikes me that you turning your attention to Broadway happens to come at a time when not just Pinter is on the Main Stem but also Jeremy O. Harris and Heidi Schreck. And where did Heidi come from? Clubbed Thumb. If you’re thinking about the future of the form, the future comes really fast, and if you want to be guiding people through that you have to pay attention. Here’s my actual goal: to be the Anthony Bourdain of theatre in New York. I want to say to readers: You have no idea that you want to go to this weird corner and eat these spicy noodles, but trust me, you’ll love it. If I could do one millionth of that for theatre, I’d be happy.

The eighth annual Bad Theater Festival will run October 16 to 19 at The Brick, As The Brooklyn Paper explains “This year’s 19 out-of-the-box productions, each between five and twenty minutes long, represent a variety of genres, with an emphasis on the ridiculous. In one eight-minute comedy-horror piece, playing during the opening block on Oct. 16, Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride go to marriage counseling. I'm actually sorta obsessed with drawing tiny, dabbing figures right now because I just discovered an easy way to draw dabs and…well. It’s fun?)

AWW tysm! Tbh though I get the struggle. I hated all paints for the longest time because I also had no idea how to use brushes and control the amount of water I used and ended up with shapeless blobs or super runny pics (also I’ve never actually learned how to paint or draw…a couple of short lessons when I was really little, a month(?) of lessons around last year or the year before, that’s pretty much it. So idk how to do things really lol). But I sorta-recently got obsessed with watercolor paintings (SO PRETTY) and that’s why I started ‘practicing’ (AKA watching/reading a bunch of tutorials and trying my best to remember the few things I actually learned XD). I still can’t draw stuff just with watercolors though, I need to do a light pencil sketch and then color with paint.

OK that sounds so cool but problem: My phone is a super old flip phone that I’ve had since I was eight(?), so mobile games are a no XD and my parents probably wouldn’t buy me anything that costs money (they let me play simple free RP games and dating games on the internet since those are usually fairly innocent (I mean, it’s plot/character-based stuff, almost like a manga) but not anything too 'big’ you know? If I was old enough to buy games like that with my own money I don’t think they’d care tho, as long as I didn’t get obsessed with games or anything.)

Also just realized that I’m stupid and apparently forgot that I don’t have Steam. I was going to install it but can I ask you exactly what it is/how it works, first? I’m just kinda worried about randomly installing this since I don’t quite get it yet ^^;; (sorry I can be really, really stupid when it comes to stuff like this)

THAT’S SO CUTE. Let me recommend you a game too- a free RPG/Dating game called Ascension by ImpQueen! No download, you just go to ImpQueen and play it. There are three(?) chapters. The first chapter might not be that interesting compared to other games, but the game and the story keep getting more complex as you go on :D you also get new dateable characters every chapter and the MC, Aida, is AWESOME. Also, in chapter two and three you can actually customize the main cast’s appearances, like you’d do in a dress-up game! Another cool thing is that you get different 'personality points' depending on the things you say/do, and the amount of points you have for a certain personality can change the outcomes of certain situations.

It’s also really fun because other than the romance, the plot and Aida’s journey is super interesting too.

Funny thing is I thought I liked physical contact (like cuddling, hugging, hand-holding) but turns out that’s not the case XD I get super awkward when anyone who’s not my mom, dad, or my little sister/younger cousin touches me. Ah, that’s what makes it even more impressive! I mean, we had art in elementary school, but it was mostly the ‘learn stuff yourself’ kind of art. Needles to say, I didn’t learn a lot. But watercolours really are a nice way of painting, since they can have really vibrant colours, yet be serene at the same time. Most people I know who draw, watercolour or not, use sketches and references, so I don’t see anything wrong with that ^^ Just take your time to learn what you want ^^

Oh, I see! So, free, computer games for you… Well, right now, CP is the only one I can think of, but I’ll discover more in the future and share them with you when I do ^^ The only paid games I play are on my phone, since I’m too shy to ask my parents to but me otome games… I have 0 problems playing them on my own, but not a lot of people know that I play them.

Right, steam. It’s a gaming platform. Technically, it’s an app for the computer on which you can download games that are available in the steam store. Some are free, some are paid.

This is how the page looks. The little green button in the upper left corner is to download the app itself, and you’ll also need to create an account. You’ll need to give an email, but it’s only for account verification and to send you bills if you decide to buy anything. However, if you don’t buy anything, the email will mostly be useless after the verification. I mean, I don’t remember getting a spam email from them at all. After that, just go to the search bar, type Cinderella Phenomenon. And press play the game! Does it bother you the way that the show makes your life public and everyone that watches has an opinion on every little thing that you do and why?

Opinions aren’t exactly something I’m in control of nor care about, people can say what they want but I’m probably doing too little here to actually give them an opinion. But to answer your question, it used to bother me but not so much anymore. I’m a private person so I don’t like my information out there or my business, but it’s also what I signed up for.

If you could ask any one person in the house a question and receive a completely honest answer, who would you ask? And what would you ask?

I mean, I know how Dax feels about certain things so there’s no point in asking about something I’m going to get the same answer to--so I’d ask Mason what his real intentions are with me, and why he’s back in my life all of a sudden.

Is the way that you look on camera important to you at all?

Not in the slightest. Damn right you’re gonna get a sloppy as hell lookin’ Monet if you put a camera in my face at eight in the morning.

What is one event in your life that you think really affected how you act today?

I know I’m supposed to answer or whatever but..I’m gonna just be as vague as possible here. Someone nearly ruined my life in high school, I won’t even acknowledge him because he’s a shit person, so in my mind he doesn’t even exist in my world anymore. But I got tough because of him, I had to.

If you had a choice who would you have sex with with in the house?

Because we have a comfortable history of friendship with each other and for other obvious reasons, Dax.

Who at Fucked Up has been someone you struggle to see everyday because of anything that happened between you two in the past or hidden feelings for the person and explain.

I still struggle seeing Mason to be honest. It’s more because I can’t figure out why he came back into my life after leavin’ in the first place. To be honest I don’t know how I still feel so calm with him because for awhile I was pretty angry about the whole thing.

Have you ever thought about leaving the house?

Almost everyday someone talks to me.

What would you be doing if you weren’t on the show?

I’d be back home seeing family or out traveling and writing, but hey I’m travelin’ here too.

Do you think the friendships you’ve formed on the show have the ability to continue once it’s over and everyone goes back to their everyday life?

That all depends on the people. I’m pretty picky about who I’d even call a friend here, I probably would only count about five. But those people that I’ve had a connection with that isn’t just a surface level friendship--I expect a lot from those after the show.

What is one thing about you you wished people recognized more?

I could care less what people do or don’t recognize about me, but in general I’d rather people recognized that Ryan’s a good guy, and he doesn’t deserve a lot of the hate he gets. We’re all human, we’re not perfect and we’re not trying to be. So I’d really like to see the same people callin’ his names get called out on their own shit.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done for you?

I was back home over the break and this guy had a photo book of every time I appeared onscreen in an episode. I mean I would’ve been flattered if I wasn’t so damn creeped out too.

A childhood memory you love the most?

My dad first teaching me how to cook back home. He was the grill master, head chef--everything you could name when it came to the kitchen. But I remember a day he spent when I was a little girl teaching me how to cook different things, hell even my brother and sister wanted in on it.

What have you learned about yourself since joining the show?

I’ve learned that I’m not as much of a closed book the more I get to know someone here, but I’m not sure how I feel about that.

Name six fears you have.

I’m actually almost ashamed I even have six but here we go. Aliens, airplanes, small spaces, losing my dad, drunk drivers, and not having dax as my best friend.

If you could be one animal, which one would it be?

A lion. They’re fierce and wild, but they have instincts that I can relate to.

Would your 10 year old self be proud of the person you are now? why or why not?

I don’t see why not, though she may not like that I don’t paint anymore. We’re both the same, and nothing’s really changed.

What is something that you’ve always wanted to be/have/get but can never have?

Definitely just the ability to travel constantly, I worry I’d probably rarely come home though.

Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of? What’s stopping you?

I am. This was a part of shaping who I am today, and I’m all about forgiveness but this was a wrong that I don’t think I could ever just let go of even if I wanted to.

If karma was coming back to you, would it help or hurt you?

Definitely help, I mean hell from my days in high school, to this mess with Dax and Mason coming back and then that accident--I’m due for some damn good karma. But there are definitely people that got it much worse than me so if they need it then so be it.

If you were granted three wishes, what would they be?

For my dad to be completely healthy again, to be able to travel whenever I want outside of the show, and just for an even balance of emotions.
