Never, ever thought I'd say this, but the food at this hospital is BOMB. Recovering from a surgery I had this morning and I got a chicken biryani that felt like I was sat down at someone's wedding, LMAOOOO. WHAT.
Not hot, but perfect combination of flavours, complexity and the chicken was GOOD.
So, yes. Prepare for my next fic offering: Reader x hospital chef who cooks their way to your heart./j đđđđ

skz x desi reader headcanons
A.N: highly unedited, it's just me yapping - also! if you have anything you want to add on, pls share! let's all be delulu together hehe
tagging: @ihrtlino (i'm sorry it took so long for me to write this :') <3)
Chan
Your parents would absolutely LOVE him, and would probably invite him to come over for Diwali - bonus: Chan in a kurta - actually, scratch that - any of the members in a kurta.
Would insist he can handle the spice of your momâs curries but the extremely red tint on his ears and face says otherwise. He absolutely inhales the lassi.Â
Would call you a name of endearment in your mother tongue - THERE WAS AN AUTHOR HERE AND I WILL TAG THEM @beebee18 PLS GO READ THIS FIC BECAUSE ITâS THIS VERY ONE THAT CAUSED MY WHOLE SKZ X DESI READER BRAIN ROT - to have Chan call you meri jaan UGH
Would try and learn your language and would probably grasp common phrases like âIâm hungryâ or âI love youâ. I can see him sneaking up on you when youâre out and about the house, sneaking up behind you and pressing a kiss to your shoulder âbukh lagi hainâ (iâm hungry)
Would ask you to marry him in your mother tongue.
Would cry at your wedding when youâre doing the rounds around the fire and saying your vows.
Minho
Would learn bollywood style dancing like bollywood hip hop or something similar to impress you.
Lee Know singing a Bollywood ballad. Thatâs it. Thatâs the thought,
Lee Know is really good at learning languages and I feel like he would learn your mother tongue to speak with you or your family. Youâre waiting for your mother to open the door when you take him to meet your parents, and youâre assuring him youâll translate everything they say. Then, when the door opens he immediately greets your mother fluently.Â
Would cook your favourite traditional dish when youâre feeling homesick. He would text your mom, asking for the recipe before putting together the craziest thali (a/n: Iâve been writing about food so much Iâm craving all of this now).
Tries to decorate the house for Diwali but doesnât quite get how to do the rangoli so he calls Hyunjin for help. Hyunjin walks into your house to see Lee Know with multi-colored rangoli powder smudged onto his face and all over his hands. You come back to the house to find Lee Know chasing Hyunjin with a handful of tissues
Puts coconut oil in your hair and braids it for you. Doesnât even say anything about it. One day youâre just doing it and he pops into the bathroom, takes the oil from your hands and does it. Massages it into your scalp and braids your hair. Then he just washes his hands and leaves. He does it for you every time now. Gets mad the one time when you decide to do it on your own and he does that angry little sigh. Doesnât speak to you until you cuddle him and promise youâll let him do it from now on.
ChangbinÂ
You can not convince me this man would not listen to rap music in your mother tongue. Would probably have a favourite rapper. I feel like generally speaking he would be very interested in Bollywood music as a genre and style of music. He would be inspired to maybe include some of those elements like the instrument style etc in his own music.
Would have your contact name saved as a name of endearment in your mother tongue.
Would dance with you at weddings or events.
Would secretly take classes in your mother tongue so he could speak with you. Youâd find out one day when you come back home and heâs reciting a speech about how much he loves you.
You introduce him to biryani for the first time and itâs officially his favourite thing. Catch him eating biryani in the dressing rooms in SKZ-Talker
Hyunjin
Would learn how to do mehendi just so he could do yours. I can see him making really beautiful designs of flowers in great detail.
If you know any kind of classical bollywood dances I feel like he would really want to learn the basics so he could dance with you.Bonus: When you get your mehendi done for your wedding, he would probably tear up when he finds his initials in the designs.
Would love watching the romantic bollywood movies - would probably cry WATERFALLS and deny it - but later he posts a painting of a scene from the movie on his instagram. Would slow dance to the romantic songs with you.
Would paint or photograph you in traditional clothing
Would buy you pretty jhumkas and bangles at the market. You find out later that they absolutely ripped him off his money for those bangles but itâs okay because he loves you. That man would be so in love with you he probably build a whole palace in your name.Â
HanÂ
Would learn an Arjit Singh song for you on the guitar (a/n: just had a thought about this - is arjit singh like the hozier of bollywood??). Would send full covers to you first, before posting a small snippet of it onto Instagram. He might upload a voice message of him singing it on Bubble for Stays but you know itâs all for you.
Would watch bollywood shows and movies with you - probably (definitely) bawls his eyes out when you watch Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or KKKG.
Gets heavily invested in any kind of Bollywood tea, his jaw drops and gasps out loud when his favorite celebrity couple breaks up âthey broke up?!â
Randomly blurts out dialogues from famous desi movies
FelixÂ
Judging by the amount of chicken this man eats on mukbang lives (r.i.p bbokariâs cousins), he would LOVE butter chicken and naan. You canât convince me otherwise because I know Iâm right.
Would learn how to bake a traditional sweet and surprise you with it / nearly burns down the kitchen in the process and decides to just order a box of your favourite sweets. I get the feeling Felix would absolutely LOVE Indian sweets like gulab jamun or jalebi or ladoo.Â
Would 100000% learn your mother tongue.
Would want to do his mehendi with you too - matching designs!!!
Holi! I can see Felix as someone who would really enjoy Holi. He would probably get really sneaky with it and innocently approach you before projectile launching a handful of a mix of colours at you (but thatâs only payback because you did the same earlier).
Would surprise you with a trip to your home country when youâre feeling a little homesick.
SeungminÂ
This man would absolutely learn a ballad or a romantic song for you, would probably learn many just to sing to you - he would most definitely not tell you heâs learning any of these songs until one karaoke night he just pulls out the mic and starts belting it out.
Would pretend to act uninterested when you start watching a desi show or movie (does the uninterested dad pose standing in the living room with his hands on his hips before gradually moving to sit down) but then he ends up being the one to start crying or to start yelling at the television screen. Gets upset when you keep getting advertisement breaks on the screen, is absolutely torn apart when he realises he needs to wait a whole week to find out what happens.
Would learn how to say i love you in your language. I feel like Seungmin is quite soft spoken in the way he expresses love, but he does it strongly. Youâd be sitting on the couch together watching a Bollywood series and one of the characterâs confesses to the other and he turns to you to do the same.
When you donât mention important dates of celebrations and festivals, he surprises you by bringing it up first. Probably surprises you with a box of sweets. âWhat are these for?â âItâs Diwali today isnât it?!â
JeonginÂ
I feel like, as someone who sings Trot, Jeongin would really love singing classic Bollywood songs.
Would also get very invested in the shows and movies you watch. This man would not move a muscle from start to finish. Imagine if he watched Bahubali back when it released and at the end of the first movie heâs dying to know what happens and you have to break it to him that he's going to have to wait years until the next movie comes out.
I feel like heâd be really into the Bollywood action/superhero movies like he would really enjoy the Dhoom movie series or Don or Krrish. Youâd catch him humming one of the songs from the movies or imitating SRKâs iconic lines from the movie.Â
He would really love your traditional food and would go out of his way to find authentic restaurants making this food to take you out on a date there - and then youâd have to talk him through the whole menu and what each dish has.

Was reading The Original Sources of the Quran and it made me think about just how prevalent the Buddha is in religious traditions. To hindus he is an avatar of Vishnu, to muslims he is the sufi Ibrahim ibn Adham (or Dhul Kifl if you're of a more modernist bend), to christians he is saint josaphat. However it only makes sense considering his belief system brings no rival god or pantheon whatsoever to challenge the residents deities in the process of syncretization.
Anyhoo, passed my forensic midterm, have a pharmacology midterm coming up. Weather was breezy. Got biryani for my girlfriend and we had a study date in her university. Told her about how my mother was planning her wedding dress and then lay under the stars and talked about trans people.
Read a hadith i qudsi where God sent a righteous israelite to hell and a sinner to heaven because the former threatened the latter with being so far gone as to never be forgiven by God. This proved an act of disbelief as the righteous man was doubting God's unlimited grace and mercy which put him outside the pale of faith whereas the sinner held on to his faith and was forgiven his sins.
Made me realise that ultimately good deeds are done for God's pleasure and the judgement of heaven and hell is a medley of Grace, Justice and Wrath which our human minds can never understand. Felt hopeful about my own chances of making it into the shadow of His throne.

what i ate in toronto last week
felt like food blogging hehe
Day One
The first thing I got was a tea and donut bites from a new donut stand in the Portland airport. Yum! Then I remembered I had a long day of traveling ahead of me and went back to the Tillamook store for some real sustenance. Honestly I thought a chive biscuit egg sausage cheese sandwich would be a slam dunk but it wasn't that good.
Donuts: 8/10 (had them over the course of 3 days)
Sandwich: 5/10
Even on long flights, Air Canada only offers paid options. I got this BBQ chicken wrap for $11 CAD or something. Tortilla to filling ratio was bad but it did the job. 4.5/10
I got into the hotel late at night and just decided it wasn't worth the effort to get more food, so thats all for day one lol
Day 2
Met with Suyasha and had Cafe Landwer! Was starving and it took forever for the food to come out. This is the Mediterranean shakshuka. Bread was so fluffy. The presentation is gorg but i wasn't obsessed with the tomato-y sauce I guess. 7/10
In the afternoon I got a matcha at the library cafe where we worked (it was average, so I guess 7/10 because me love matcha). Later, I went to Fuwa Fuwa Pancakes for pre-dinner dessert. I'm glad I went when I did, because they cook everything fresh, and the wait was long even when I was the only customer. So fresh, fluffy, and refreshing - not too sweet. Yum! 9/10
After that, some folks told me they were getting dinner, so I said I'd join assuming I'd get an appetizer. Well, they decided on all you can eat hotpot, so that was unfortunate lol. We had a good time, food was good but not really noteworthy. I tried a mussel, gross! Also ate a pepper wrapped in beef that had been soaking in the spicy side for too long. That shit HURTED. 5/10
Day 3
I needed something fast to keep me going before the wedding - sadly the only thing I could walk to in time was McDonalds. The tzatziki seasoning was bad and basically ruined my fries. Chicken wrap was just whatever. 3/10
Unpictured: Shirley's wedding food! I forgot to take a pic sadly. I had chicken, kimchi mac and cheese, and other things I don't exactly remember, but it was all yummy! Plus the signature cocktails were really great. 8/10
Day 4
Niagara falls tour with Alyssa, Hwee, Jen, and Alex(?)! we shared between 4 people. It was steaming hot and yummy. I love cheese curdsss. 7.5/10
While the group went to go on the boat, I got a prosciutto goat cheese salad and a cocktail at the Queen Alexandra. Cocktail was a bit watery and salad was 90% arugula with not enough dressing - but the point was I could see the falls from my seat and they had ceiling fans (IT WAS SO HOT) 6.5/10
When we got back from the tour finally (took 3 hours to get back in traffic), we got Mr. Tonkatsu! The katsu was really flaky and good. 8/10
We also went and got asian shaved ice after this - one with red bean paste and one with almond and soybean. i wasnt really into these so i only had a few bites.. i miss hawaiian shaved ice fr. oh yeah i got some baked walnut balls here too, they were ok, would be better if they were warm. 3.5/10
Day 5
gochujang mushroom tofu banh mi at rustle & still cafe.. OH MY GOD. spicy, creamy, a lil crunch from the pickled carrots and peanuts. i might try to replicate it, it was everything. 10/10
chicken biryani from rikki tikki, with Alyssa, Shendy, and Matt. another HUGE W meal... spicy, scrumptious, perfect. the rice had pomegranate seeds in it which was such a nice little sweet crunch. it came with yogurt sauce which i adored with the spicy meal. im drooling thinking about it. 10/10 my only complaint is that i like more pillow-y naan
Day 6
Lunch was leftover Rikki Tikki!
Forgot to take a pic before it was gone, but I had a chai latte at the cafe we worked at today. It was meh, 4/10. at least the cafe had ok wifi and good a/c lol
After work, I started wandering around and went to a matcha cafe called Tsujiri. All the stuff on the menu looked amazing but I got a peach yogurt matcha frappe. It was so freaking good and those big slices of peach on top were yummy too. 9/10
While walkin' I had to stop at this Vietnamese cafe because the cake looked so yum. And it was! Fresh mango with layers of shortcake, mango pudding, and cream. i just wish it was a little smaller so I hadn't felt so bloated from eating it lol (it had to stay cold and it was a hot day so... I had to just eat it) 8.5/10
For dinner we went to a Jamaican/Chinese fusion place called Patois with Shirley, Jeremiah, Alyssa, guy who I forgot name, and his old WoW guild leader or something haha. We got a "feast for two" to share with the table, plus pork belly yakitori, becuase some of us weren't hungry. I didn't eat much but my fave was the yakitori. The rest was just ok. 5.5/10
Day 7
For my last day Suyasha and I went to Tibetan Cafe and went shopping afterwards. The reviews for this place were so high, but we were both underwhelmed by these "momos" (chicken dumplings). The dipping sauce was tomato-y but overall it was a bit bland. Suyasha is Nepalese and she said this was low-end by her standard lol. I'll try Tibetan food another time. 6/10
This was the first canned diet coke I had all week and man, how sweet it tastes - new jeans
At the airport I shared a snack of poutine and a maple moscow mule with Shirley :3 This poutine wasn't as good as the one I had before. Moscow mule was nice, the maple flavor was mild. 5.5/10
And yes, to give me the energy to travel until 3am EST, I got another BBQ chicken wrap on the plane. So nice I had it twice. Jk, it was not that nice, but actually this time it had a better filling to tortilla ratio lol. 5/10

Last Monday of the Week 2023-10-23
Testing the limits of my kitchen
Listening: I've been using my enormous playlist of Japanese Jazz Fusion as background music at home. This is Galactic Funk by Casiopeia.
youtube
Reading: There's a great PBS video on insect metamorphosis that debunks the whole Butterfly Soup thing and explains the much, much more bizarre truth: even before they enter a chrysalis, caterpillars have started to develop butterfly parts inside their bodies. Big chunky caterpillars contain a half-built butterfly. Inside the chrysalis they simultaneously dissolve the remainder of the caterpillar parts and finish the butterfly on the existing scaffolding.
youtube
There's a great paper referenced in that video which is this one, which is about findings from time-lapsed 3D CAT scans (which I guess makes it 4D) of caterpillars as they pupate.
There's actually quite a few interesting papers on following metamorphosis with modern imaging technology, including a big old thesis that I have only just started to dig into and that I do not understand.
Watching: Nothing.
Playing: I got a little obsessed with Bullets Per Minute, a rhythm FPS roguelike. Well, more of a tempo FPS roguelike, since you have to fire, reload, jump and dash on a very regular 88bpm 4/4 rock/metal soundtrack. Here, I've cut some clips together.
Hell of a lot of fun, I've been in the market for a really fast paced shooter. I tried to replay Titanfall 2, which is good. I also had a good time playing Warframe missions I was way too high level for, eventually I remembered watching the ZeroPunctuation on this and picked it up.
BPM feels great and is also a really fascinating old-fashioned indie roguelike. The game has almost no tutorials, you just get dropped into levels. Items have absolutely bare minimum descriptions and no hard numbers, the fan wiki is full of notes very clearly the result of trying to puzzle out exact damage numbers and percentile improvements from the player side of the game.
It is not hostile though! Very forgiving accessibility options if you aren't great with rhythm and good difficulty modes. I've done two full clears on normal difficulty and like with most roguelikes, that was a product of familiarity and getting the Good Items early in my run (thank you infinite ammo + revolver)
Making: Made a full spec Wedding Meal (vegetable biryani, dal, and soji) for Friends over the weekend. Easier than I expected! A lot of prep but not actually that time consuming, as long as like me you're good chopping one million vegetables.
Also finished hacking on monctl to have a command line interface. It allows fast USB control of a Gigabyte monitor. I have started poking at Display Data Channel to better generalize monitor control because I want to get a second monitor soon but this works great for now.
Tools and Equipment: If you have a dishwasher you should pretty much always use it to wash, even if it's only half full. Your dishwasher probably uses under 12 liters of water to do a full wash cycle, less on Eco modes. You are almost never going to beat it for economy or sterilization, so the only things you should wash by hand are things you either cannot put in the dishwasher (e.g. cast iron) or things you need washed right now.

Bonus: Guess who sent this
Chicken Biryani >:D
I'm proud of myself for being here, for getting back my old vocabulary that had made me unique, for writing, for not giving up.
I love her silliness, her innocence, her goodness, her kind character. I love how she hasn't given up on me. I love how she pays attention to me and makes me feel included. I love how she acknowledges the good things about me, and let's me know I'm appreciated. I love that she listens. I love her.
I love her brain, not in some weird way lol, I just love the way she thinks- the admirable way she is able to convey her thoughts. I love her silliness and chaotic behaviour. I love her ideas, her theories, her writing. God, their poetry is just as amazing as them. I love her. @the-lovely-planet-earth this refers to you <3
CHICKEN BIRYANI! Also the clothes and other Pakistani dishes. I especially love the chaos of the weddings we Paki folk host lmfao. I just love the overall aesthetic of my culture too. Did I mention the clothes? Yeah I did- I love the clothes and the jewellery. Also I was born in Australia, and live in the upside-down land, so lemme acknowledge that. I love the slang, it's hilarious. With the Indigenous culture, I love dot painting, it looks super cool and the meaning behind some of the art I've seen just makes it genuinely awesome.
Honestly, you know how I said before that I got back my old vocabulary? Yeah that- I love that about myself. I love it because it makes me unique. I love how I speak old english unironically sometimes. I love how I use older slang. I love how I just speak and write, how I pen my thoughts down, how I think. I love myself and I genuinely mean it now. There are so many things about me to love. I'm grateful to have realised that.
With irl friends, we are all very confused people. We do this thing where we mis-hear or misinterpret something another person says and then it becomes this whole ting of chaotic confusion and it's hilarious. My online friends and I- well @the-lovely-planet-earth and I traumatise entertain ya'll with our roleplays. We create angst and spill it onto the tumble crumble site for you all to see. We create characters inspired by a show we bond over, and add our own touch to them then BOOM- epic roleplay on ya'll's dash >:D
I'll get back to this- reblog to remind me.
Box, bed, desk
"Allah does not burden a soul beyond more than it can bear..." (Quran 2:286)
Bonus: @india-official I saw this only on your blog at the time I saw this was sent so...
