5/11/21 - Genshin challenge 10|16 Zhongli =D I changed this art’s face completely 🫣🫣 (the previous version is there at the end!) It’s one of the drawings that aged the worst in that 2021 batch 🥴🥴 But I like it better now after some fixes! He was my first limited 5 star 🥳🥳 And the WAY his trailer SLAPS seriously it’s my favorite one of them all to this day, when I was more active in Genshin I watched it ALL THE TIME. The song (for sure in my top 3 of chara songs), storytelling with Iron Tongue Tian (“we last left off with ancient Liyue, beset by an ocean demon, and a mountain drAGON”, rent free in my mind), the I WILL HAVE ORDER with the beat drop and everything being petrified 🫶🫶🫶🫶 It reminds me of the hard times of the pandemics and how Genshin pulled me through it 🥺🥺

Genshin 3.2 Update - Additional Thoughts

While I’ve covered my thoughts on Genshin’s 3.2 Update on Twitter already, I wanted to brain dump share some additional thoughts I had… mostly so I don’t forget them in the future 🤪

Also because I wanted to experiment with posting on tumblr… the 10 picture limit for mobile is brutal 🥲.

Anyways, let’s begin~

1. Dreams curing Eleazar?

Ok this one should’ve been in my main 🧵 since it’s kind of a big deal and ruined one of my theories kind of…

…but the people from Sumeru were the only ones affected by Eleazar… because their dreams were being harvested?

We’d kind of already learned that dreams and memories countered Marana in the Aranara quest, but the fact the lack of dreaming seemed to be the cause of Eleazar really surprised me. I kinda assumed the desert people also got Eleazar, but I guess not 😳

Certainly seems to add weight to the “hilichurl curse is the same as Eleazar” idea, since people from Khaenri’ah “dream of dreaming”. It’d basically change that statement to “hope to be cured from their curse” type of thing?

Dreams and dream energy are something I certainly could talk way more about… seems like there’s a lot of be explored here.

2. Another Irminsul Fruit appearance

The Akasha looks like an Irminsul Fruit… and Greater Lord Rukkhadevata tell us that she “thought” (past tense) dreams were the fruit of human wisdom.

3. The weight of responsibility

The conversation with Dehya asking the Traveler to smile reminded me of how one of the Aranara pointed out the Traveller doesn’t really dream anymore. Seems like with each quest, the weight of being a “guardian” keeps growing heavier for the Traveler 😢

The traveler’s view on their responsibilities was further emphasized by Scara’s comments on the Traveller’s “guardian complex”.

4. So many moons

Why does this world have so many moon patterns?! Technically, the first one is in a realm of consciousness, but still! Tons of moons…

5. Haypasia

While it is possible that Dottore wanted to take Haypasia away because she knew something she shouldn’t, I feel like it’s possible he was doing so in case he needed leverage over Scaramouche.

Despite going through all the effort to turn Scaramouche into a god, Dottore had no intention of leaving him as one. The Tsaritsa requires the gnoses, so after Scaramouche was successfully converted into one… Dottore would (at some point) have to de-god Scaramouche to give the gnosis to the Tsaritsa. So, I think it’s possible he wanted to remove Scara’s first “follower” as leverage over the new god, or weaken him… or something.

6. Dottore’s Illusions

One of the strangest moments in the archon quest for me was when Dottore tricks the traveler and company into believing the port was filled with Fatui soldiers.

Was this a hint at the “god-like” powers Dottore might possess? Was he using some sort of device to create the illusions? It feels like this whole scene was really brushed over in game…

7. The arrogance of mortals… I mean scholars…

8. Emotions

I think emotions have a bigger role than I’m able to comprehend right now… looking at Alhaitham’s statement on emotions:

Alhaitham: Emotions are a part of our behavioral logic. But can you guarantee that every experience of the same joy or pain would be equally intense? How can our feelings and opinions be predictable down to the letter in every single instance?

I can’t help but think about how often emotions are brought up in game. More specifically, how the Archons refer to them.

In Zhongli’s voice line, “About Us: Confusion”:

Zhongli: Contracts cannot be used to define friendship, nor measure sentiment. So just what can we use to measure the weight of our emotions? Do you know the answer, friend?

In Venti’s voice line, “About Buer”:

Venti: The first thing you think of when you hear “Dendro Archon” is her power over dreams. Her dreams are akin to my ballads: full of emotion and imagination. It goes without saying that we get along really well.

There’s definitely more examples than this, but I’m not going to put that together right now… just some food for thought for myself 😅

9. Nahida’s Fence Comments

Nahida: Mhm. You may blame me for being a bit too self-indulgent. I was thinking about talking with you, and the next thing I knew, I had made a connection with you.

Nahida: The connection between us is amazing! It’s like flora and the fence it grows upon.

While Nahida and the traveler might think that’s an amazing connection… I find it rather… hm… odd? Is being a fence used by the flower really a great thing? Not only that, but the comparison gets even stranger when Nahida goes to take over the Traveler’s body:

Nahida: You said I should go thank everyone as myself, right?

Nahida: I’ve decided to borrow your body for the time being. Please don’t blame me. The flora also climbs up the fence to get closer to the sky.

Traveler: (Then at least promise me you won’t say anything weird when you’re in my body!) Nahida latches her consciousness onto you.

Additionally, it seems there were some sort of physical toll Nahida taking over the traveler had on them, since Paimon comments on how after Nahida left, the traveler ate a lot of food.

Also, Nahida’s special dish refers to the traveler as a sea anemone… it’s all very odd to me 😅.

Ending Thoughts

Welp, I have a couple of other things related to the update I plan to post on, but think this is a good stopping point for a brain dump/formatting-experiment thread. Thanks for reading~

How Genshin Impact Took My Rationality Away

August 2, 2021: I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the pandemic freed up a lot of time on my hands. My whole first year of college was on Zoom University, and it has been going great! I have so much time to do nothing all day and even made zero new friends! …I truly need a new hobby. Perhaps I should pick up this game my friend recommended to me.

August 3, 2021: I haven’t slept. I downloaded Genshin Impact last night and have been playing ever since. I witnessed the sunrise — both in-game and in real life. My current mindset: play Genshin ≻ eat ≻ sleep. I'm pretty sure I can last without sleeping for at least another day, right?

August 26, 2021: I’m truly lost in the sauce now. Tartaglia has got to be my favorite Genshin character, closely followed by Zhongli. I recently joined the subreddit dedicated to Genshin leaks (aka spoilers for what is coming in future game patches) to see if either character would be on the next patch. Turns out it’s Raiden Shogun! Meanwhile, the current patch featured Ayaka and Yoimiya. My current preference is Tartaglia ≻ Zhongli ≻ Raiden Shogun ≻ Ayaka ∼ Yoimiya. I’m not really interested in the current patch’s characters, and Tartaglia and Zhongli don't seem to be rerunning any time soon. I’m also definitely more than okay with Raiden Shogun being my first 5-star character. Looks like it’s time to grind out primogems (in-game currency) before her release!

August 31, 2021: My hands are shaking. I won the 50/50 and got Raiden Shogun! It took me 74 pulls to get her, and I have only 6 pulls left. Wait a minute… the leaks subreddit is suddenly talking about a possible Tartaglia rerun in the next patch. There’s no way, right???

October 3, 2021: Primogems are quite the scarce resource in Genshin Impact considering how it’s the only way players can get new limited 5-star characters and weapons in the game. This really is a case of low supply and high demand. I’ve been playing this game every single day since I started a few months ago. The leaks turned out to be right. The Genshin livestream confirmed that Tartaglia is rerunning in the next patch. I’ve spent the last few weeks obtaining all the primogems I could get just to ensure that I could successfully pull for him. I now have a clear idea of how to spend my primogems: Tartaglia ≻ Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon.

October 12, 2021: The server maintenance just finished. Time to log in and pull for Tartaglia—and only him.

Well, that was unexpected! I ended up getting him quite early and only used 46 pulls. I still have quite a bit of pulls left… But I must resist the weapon banner! I cannot pull for Polar Star (Tartaglia’s signature weapon). I know my priorities: Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon (including Polar Star).

I don’t know what’s gotten into me… For some reason, my brain is suddenly thinking: Polar Star ≻ Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon (including Polar Star). "Tartaglia deserves it," says my brain. My hand moves the cursor to the weapon banner, and I end up pulling. 30 pulls in, I suddenly see this:

It’s Polar Star, right?! It's not. I didn’t get Tartaglia’s weapon and just wasted 30 pulls.

My rationality seemed to have left, but it’s back now. I’ve learnt my lesson. For sure now, Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon (including Polar Star). Time to close the weapon banner screen before I lose any more pulls to this scam of a banner!

My rationality has suddenly left me once again. I am now irrational; my preferences are definitely not transitive. Sunk cost fallacy has convinced me that: Polar Star ≻ Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon (including Polar Star). At a moment of weakness, I give in and quickly pull on the weapon banner before my rationality returns to tell me otherwise. 66 pulls in, and…

I GOT POLAR STAR!!! After this experience, I swear I will never lose my rationality again! I will never pull on the weapon banner again!  Zhongli ≻ any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon.

March 16, 2023: I’ve been an active player on Genshin Impact for 586 days now. I got Zhongli, but did I touch the weapon banner again? I must admit that my word is as trustworthy as any American politician’s: completely worthless.

My rationality is gone with the wind when it comes to this game. I truly believe that any new 5-star character ≻ any new 5-star weapon. However, I somehow just keep making exceptions and end up pulling on the weapon banner. My most recent pull was on the weapon banner for goodness sake!

I wish I could say I was a rational Genshin player and stop pulling for all of these weapons, but it seems like an impossible task for me. All of those pulls that could have gotten me multiple new characters were spent on making my current characters look cooler with their signature weapons instead. Primogems are as limited as ever, yet I still do stuff like this. Perhaps, I'll become a rational player one day...

They let you summon your first idol pretty early into the tutorial, and tempted as I was to scout from MaM just for the hilarity of a guaranteed chara, I decided to mash the Trickstar button in the end.

Genshin OC #1

Picrew is called: The Lady of Hera.

This is my main Genshin OC! She is a noble from Sumeru but she ran away at a young age.

Her real name is Ilosa Annunziata but her alias is Combat Ziatro.

She is a Dendro Catalyst user.

Due to my obsession with lore she has this special connection with the leylines. She can feel and see what information is stored within them, but it's not as overpowered as it sounds.

I call her a Leyline Listener, which isn't a thing in the game it's something I made up for organization purposes.

Sure she has this special connection, but she has certain limits. Use it too much and she becomes overstimulated. Use it in an icy region like Dragonspine, she's going to feel cold for the rest of the day. Use it near water, she feels like she's drowning. She can use this ability in normal environments.

Her attacks are Dendro throwing knives.

Those who obtain the Dendro vision are after something that's quite impossible to achieve or on their way to achieve it. Like how Baizhu is trying to achieve immortality through Qiqi.

For Ilosa, it's finding out the true history of the world. Not the truth of the world, the history of the world of Teyvat.

Sure she has seen certain events happen live or in the past, but the more far back it is, the harder it is for her to see it.

Now for those who are wondering, why did she run away? Well, let's just say her parents treated like shit.

Her parents own an Oasis like place(thank you Lance <3) and information passes through there.

Her mom was disappointed when Ilosa obtained her vision at the age of 5, that same day where she felt the Leyline connection.

She ran away at around the age of 10-11 so she's been on the run for at least a decade or so.

Oh did I mention that she's in an arranged marriage? Yeah, she's in an arranged marriage with one of her childhood friends. (Oi forbidden love trope ppl have some food.)

Through her running from place to place, she's gained a bit of a criminal record... She did turn herself into everybody's informant. What I mean is that she gives people the information they want, any supplies they may need, at a price.

She deals with everyone! The Treasure Hoarders, adventurers, the Fatui, you name them and she has probably met them before.

Though she hasn't dealt with any of the Harbingers before, and she prefers to keep it that way.

If you ask her what side of history she's on she says, "The one where they record all that's happening on both sides. Nothing shall get erased."

Does she know the true identity of Venti and Zhongli? Unfortunately yeah... It's not easy...

She's similar to Dainsleif but she has her limitations like I've said before.

Also for her wish banner title or the royalty like titles that's going on in Genshin like Chalk Prince or Uncrowned King of Mondstadt, I got two.

The first one is the Runaway Princess and the second is the Queen of Information.

5 Fun Facts and 5 Headcanons - Part 2/23: Heart of Ice Edition

Bonus fun fact before I start this one: I could not, for the life of me, come up with a better title for this one.

Up First, 5 Fun Facts!

1. Camus's birthday is January 23rd, which makes his star sign an Aquarius.

2. Despite acting kind and gentleman-like in public and in front of fans, his true personality is actually cold and callous, not caring about anyone except for the Queen of his native Silk Palace.

3. He has a dog, a borzoi named Alexander. Camus can turn Alexander into a horse when his magic is at its fullest.

4. People in his home country (the fictitious land of Permafrost) do not have last names, which is why we don't often - if ever - see one in official or fan art of Camus. However, in the game All Star, he allows Haruka to choose one for him. Her choice (which is arguably more questionable than Justice Impulse /hj) is Cryszard - a combination of the words "crystal" and "blizzard."

5. For my Utapri fans who are also Genshin players, Camus and Zhongli have the same voice actor, Tomoaki Maeno.

Now for 5 Headcanons I have!

1. Thanks to his role within the Silk Palace, Camus is fluent in multiple languages. These include - but are not limited to - Japanese, English, German, Russian, and French.

2. He has a light blue owl Squishmallow. There's no way in hell he'd tell anyone about it, though, especially since a few someones (Reiji and Ranmaru) would give him hell if they found out about it.

3. Despite his usually cold demeanor, Camus has a soft spot for most animals. However, he finds that a lot of animals are scared of him because of how cold he comes across as.

4. He might enjoy sweets, but he can't bake to save his life. Some argue that his baking skills are worse than Natsuki's cooking.

5. Camus is one of those types of people who doesn't say any bad words in public or in a work setting, but has the mouth of a sailor when alone. He accidentally swore one time during an interview leading up to the release of Maji Love Kingdom and was mortified when he realized it. The other boys (most notably the other Quartet Night members) refuse to let him live it down.

my Wife. i think i've already told this before somewhere in my genshin tag but i lost 50/50 to her the first time i tried to pull on a limited chara, zhongli. and she has NEVER left my party unless i'm trying to gain friendship xp. i use her w literally any chara bc i can't bear to bench her cus she's too pretty and i want to do everything w her. i think i legit make teams around her LMAO like xiao hypercarry? that's fine, jean can be anemo battery and healer. i now have built bennett and raiden? cool, time for sunfire jean! freeze team? oh we'll need a cryo res debuffer! ill put jean on. she just works so well for so many things??? 🧎 who needs zhongli when mhy can just powercreep enemies by introducing corrosion? u know who doesnt need a shield to be good? jean. i have her on c2 and im planning to get her to c4 so she can shred anemo res!!!

tho tbh what made me fall for her first was her character and personality. i just really love hardworking earnest and "justice-like" knight girls.... i think they're so cute. my fave lines from her are "You have my complete and full support. Of course, if your path ever deviates from justice, I will not hesitate to point it out." and "I swear by this sword, victory shall be yours." LIKE PLEASE. .... AND HER FINAL ASCENSION LINE????? "Wind, please forgive my selfishness. Not as the Acting Grand Master, but as Jean - I hereby swear that my sword shall always go with you."

hehehe!! as mentioned before, i use him a lot w jean! i dont have much to say about his personality or lore since i think what i would say are things that things that have been echoed by a lot of other people. but in terms of the game and gameplay wise, i super love his novelty. his gameplay is completely not reliant on elemental reactions at all which i SUPER love. i think i told this story already, but like. for a good chunk of genshin i legit didnt know we were supposed to build teams around elemental reactions. bc my first two limited 5* charas that i got were xiao and eula, whose whole playstyle revolves around being a "selfish" dps who does crazy consolidated dmg. and i thought elemental reactions in genshin worked like pokemon where it was like... "ok water beats fire. i guess i shouldnt put hydro and pyro charas in the same team!" <- a complete fool. that was the opposite lesson you had to learn.

i think he's been my main dps ever since i got him! in 1.3, so february last year. right now i switch between yanfei elemental reaction team, ayaka + yelan freeze team, and xiao hypercarry with bennett and xiangling as supports. he's super fun to play as, though i wish he wouldnt cause enemies around him to get knocked back as i plunge using his burst TwT

2. zhongli; i love him, i adore him, but i just don't know how to write his characterisation in my own writing bcs this dude is way too up there compared to my dumb ass.

3. xiao/kazuha/itto; xiao is like the first time i simp hard for a genshin character a long time ago, for kazu and itto, they both have such a distinct personality and in-depth to them (on another note, itto may rank higher than xiao and kazuha bcs i love this himbo)

4. ayaka; she's my first ever limited 5*, although i didn't know her that much when people were talking about her since beta. instantly fell in love with everything about her and i decided to go for her (even skipping kazuha bcs i badly wanted a dps). now she is still with me, never leaving my main team.

5. raiden; funny how i despised her the first time she appeared in the archon quest, but i somehow got too lucky on her banner that i obtained her at early pity with a double 5 star in one ten pull. so i decided to build her as she is my second limited 5* behind ayaka, let's say her gameplay is one of my favourites in the game atm.

6. childe/diluc/kaeya/thoma; end this list with them because i have a love-hate relationship with each and every single one of them, especially diluc.

idk if ur the right person to ask for this but: I was thinking of pulling for ayato bc his skill and ult seem really useful especially in the spiral abyss. but other players say his icd is too long/his scaling is trash/ he's not worth it etcetc. do you have any thoughts on this?

starting this off by saying that i am in no way a meta player, i play how it's comfortable to me and how i'm used to, i'm not an expert and also lol sorry for the long ass response but i wanted to get as specific as possible, and also it kinda doesn't make any sense so forgive me for that lol

first i wanna say i disagree with the scaling is trash point because i think his scaling is pretty average for a sword dps as far is im concerned, besides that:

if you listen to people who talk about "meta" endlessly, then you're gonna end up not pulling for any character. i've been playing genshin since 1.1 and as far as i'm concerned almost every single limited 5* character was deemed "trash" either before or when they were released, the only exceptions i'm aware of that didn't have any major controversy, negative or even remotely dubious response were itto, xiao, hu tao, ayaka i guess but she was a special case, maybe venti and klee (initially)

idk if you're a new player, but if you are you'll be surprised to find out that raiden shogun was deemed unusable, ganyu was called "cryo amber", albedo was completely overlooked, i'm not even gonna get into the zhongli discourse because i'd have to write an entire book about it

my point is "xyz is trash because [1 flaw that they have]" are comments you shouldn't pay too much attention to, especially if the character is still in beta and hasn't been released

if you play only to 36* abyss then honestly, i don't think you should pull for ayato only for that, but i also think you shouldn't just play for spiral abyss in general. if you're a newer player then uh unless abyss gets a big rework you're gonna have a tough time 36* starring it (i kinda gave up on it :p)

if you play to have fun, then ayato seems to me a perfectly viable hydro dps, sub-dps or even support that could potentially work well with a lot of different units as far as i'm concerned; ICD is a problem that's not unique to ayato and it is kind of annoying, there's not much that can be done about that honestly and you just have to deal with it. and also. god. for the love of god. for the sake of everything that is holy in this world. look at me anon. repeat it with me:

the only reason why i would tell you to rethink pulling for ayato is if you have childe already since their kits are extremely similar as they're both very team oriented (as opposed to hypercarries) (but even then i'm still pulling for ayato even with a childe in my roster like idc)

i'd say if you're unsure then wait until he's released (if you can and weren't planning on otherwise pulling for raiden or kokomi in a couple of weeks), do his trial, if you have the patience you can even wait to see what other players think in the first few days, and then make your decision

but please, and i mean this genuinely, don't skip a character just because someone on twitter called them trash, pointing out flaws in characters is perfectly valid criticism and i watch videos about characters' flaws all the time, but you can't know for sure until the character is released and you did a test run with them outside of beta

TLDR: if you like a character and you want to play them because their kit looks genuinely fun to you, pull regardless of meta, there is no PvP in genshin so which unit you play is absolutely inconsequential outside of spiral abyss

i feel like i've definitely missed some stuff but that's what i think, at the end of the day ayato is not a badly designed unit in my opinion, he's balanced enough that whatever he lacks can be filled in with other units in my personal opinion
