Emma carefully set the glass baking dish on the counter to cool, the kitchen filling with the scent of the casserole that was their meal that evening, and likely lunches for the next day. She was glad to be able to cook for them, it was something she enjoyed and it kept her mind off the anxiety that had filled her since she had come home to an empty house.

This... strangeness had gone on for far too long. It wasn't often that she confronted her father, they were so very close and almost always saw eye to eye. But this... this was one thing she knew they would disagree on, and she couldn't let it go any longer. With the handyman having had to leave early, a scribbled apology explaining that there was a situation with his daughter and a promise that he'd be back to finish the job the next morning, it gave her the opportunity she needed.

She glanced over her shoulder as she heard the door open, sighing softly, but smiling.

"Hi dad," She called. "Mail's by the door for you. Dinner just got done. It'll take some time to cool."

Don't be fooled by the smile. A little known fact is that cinema usherettes were supplied with a .44 Magnum handgun taped to the underside of their trays. These came in handy when patrons did not possess the correct change for a choc-ice.

Tiny feet ran fast and hard through the upstairs hallway. The little girl clutched her coat tightly to her chest, hiding something underneath.

Hazel eyes glanced back over her shoulder, she could hear more steps, albeit slower, coming toward her.

She had to get away.

Without thinking, she turned and opened the first door she found and slipped inside the room, desperate not to be found and not realizing where exactly she was.
